I have always wanted to own a mahjong set since I was a child (so a very long time!) I have recently been taught to play by a group of friends who meet regularly to play. Now I have my own set and I couldn’t be more impressed. This set is absolutely gorgeous, very classy and well made. It is presented in its own box, wrapped in tissue with a personal message from the manufacturers. Previous reviews mention the stitching and the racks, which is true, but for this price, I am extremely pleased. Thank you x
This was a delight to unpack (would be a super gift), the tiles are satisfyingly thick and give that lovely clack when shuffling, playing. The racks sit perpendicular to the table, so not really much point using them, the Chinese don’t, as the tiles are thick enough to stand upright, but they are useful as pushers for the wall.
Although the instruction booklet refers only to the Chinese game this set is equally correct for the western game.

Love this mahjong set. It’s lovely. The case is good, ideal for gifting. The set itself is very good quality. Also included was a rule booklet which is really useful even if you’ve been playing mahjong for a while. I’d recommend this
I bought this to write letters with .it’s easy to use and easy to write with.
La valise (intrieur et extrieur) et les diverses pices de jeu sont de trs bonne qualit. Les tuiles sont de taille moyenne comme annonces, mais elles restent confortables jouer et solides, et les gravures sont jolies. Notez que les tuiles n’ont pas un dos color.
En plus des tuiles, il y a les btonnets traditionnels pour compter les points (trs apprciable!), des ds un peu petits pour dmarrer la partie, et des jetons de vent dominant, tous de bonne qualit. Seul manque le Chwang Tse, le bideau o se range les jetons de vent dominant, mais ce n’est pas rdhibitoire pour apprcier le jeu (je dplace simplement la pile de jetons elle-mme entre chaque tour).
Le livret de rgles est en anglais, donc prvoyez une copie des rgles en franais si vous ne parlez pas la langue de Shakespeare. Malgr cela, le livret est trs complet, et permet un dbutant de mener une partie complte.
Enfin, petite anecdote rangement. Les tuiles sont disposes dans 4 coffrets dans la valise, plus un 5me contenant les btonnets, jetons et ds. Les tuiles ne remplissent pas compltement un coffret de rangement, il reste toujours un peu d’espace, alors je m’inquitais qu’elles puissent se renverser dans la valise. MAIS! Mme aprs avoir retourn plusieurs fois la valise, les tuiles ne sont pas tombes de leur coffret! La valise et le matriel de rangement sont donc bien trs bien calibrs. Une fois les loquets de la valise bien ferms, aucune chance de retrouver un bazar en la rouvrant.
En conclusion, un produit d’excellente qualit, idal pour apprendre jouer, emmener en voyage ou collectionner.
I’ve been after a decent Mahjong set for awhile. This certainly fits the bill. I went for the ‘club’ version rather than the luxury version. I can see no difference between them except the club is brown and the luxury is black. I can understand some reviewers concerns re the case latches, they do seem a bit frail. The quality of the pieces is excellent, no major flaws. ONE MAJOR GRIPE though and it has nothing to do with the Mahjong set, it is to do with delivery. I ordered this on the ‘same day’ delivery, early morning, so they had about 9 hours to deliver it. At 7pm I got a message sating that the item was delayed and would be delivered in the next couple of days. This is twice Amazon have done this. Moral is Don’t make promises you can’t fulfill, other than this I wholly recommend this set.
My daughter has wanted a set for ages, after losing out on an antique complete set on eBay and seeing how much the antique ones go for I decided to go for a new one. After reading the rules we set out to play very badly for 3 hours, definitely a winner. Have since had a couple of YouTube sessions and now understand it a whole lot more. A beautiful tactile game with great sound effects-the click click of the tiles and shouted calls… well and truly hooked product very well made and the case it comes in makes it a lovely addition next to the backgammon set- real quality. Still hope to own an antique set one day!

Die Steine sind aus einem schweren Kunststoff mit ausgezeichneter Haptik. Gro genug zum Greifen und klein genug, damit die “Mauer” auf den Tisch passt. Schner Druck, keine ausgelaufene Farbe in den Vertiefungen.

The complete package was very presentable, tiles of good solid material with clearly marked tiles – no ambiguity. My only criticism is that the tile racks are one tile too short.
Excellent quality that you would expect of Jaques. Tiles are very good quality and with an easy to store box. The only think I would change is the white dragon tile – it’s blank but needs to be more recognisable. Still a great set though
A really stunning gift that’s top quality and looks far more expensive than the price tag. Got it earlier than expected which was a nice bonus, but well worth waiting for anyway. Completely different to anything I’ve ever bought before but would recommend.

The ledges that you put the tiles on aren’t up to the job, they need to tilt like a decent Scrabble version. The tiles fall off so easily, it’s annoying as everything else about it is great.

Arrived very quickly, beautifully wrapped and looks great. Comes with every thing you need including a booklet on how to play. Comes in a case as well and it is pretty heavy. I choose this one because I have had stuff from Jaques before and it’s alway well made and if there are any issues it’s resolved straight away. Definitely worth paying that little bit more.
I have faith in this maker’s gaming equipment; this is why I trust that this product will be appreciated. I will not be able to comment until after the recipient has opened it.
High quality packaging case. Pieces also very good quality. I thought the pieces would be slightly bigger but the size is fine. Would be nice to find a games table now.

Grew up with Kong Kong ivory set so hard to compete with, but quality matches price, perfect size for user friendly,case needs improving to preserve contents, ivory would cost prob 300.00so it’s value for money.
Absolutely love this item. Unfortunately due to covid 19 not been able to have friends or family play, but I’m playing solitaire. Packaging fantastic, item arrived fast, great quality looks really good. Now need to get a table, ha ha.

I brought this because I love to play the game on my Ipad… and wanted to learn the real thing – I have been playing it with Chinese students this week and they think it is fantastic!
Well worth the expense – came professionally wrapped – the price is worthy of the contents.
My Mahjong set arrived yesterday. It came shrink wrapped so none of the usual excess packaging one associates with Amazon deliveries. The beautifully illustrated carboard box fit flush with the game case itself and was tied in a black ribbon bearing the company name and year of business establishment. Inside the box was a card declaring my order was wrapped by Emma, thank you Emma!
The case itself is finished with faux leather and white stitching; it is sturdy and the gold colour clasps are of decent quality. Everything has a place within the case which love and each of the trays and the case is lined with a white faux baize including the join between lid and base. There aren’t any hinges on the case.
I’ve seen a few different sets and the carvings on these tiles are no less attractive. I’m accustomed to Circles’ main colour being blue and the colours brighter, but this is a matter of taste and experience and will not detract from play. The tiles are weighted and sized well and will not fall easily. Seasons and Flowers tiles are included should you wish to play with those.
The instruction booklet is printed on good quality paper with a light card cover. The charming manner in which it has been written ensures is a pleasure to journey through if words and composition tickle you, although may confuse novices! It might be advisable to read a shorter set of rules online to get to grips with the basics before enjoying the artistry of the included booklet.
Three observations which will not affect play.
1. Because of the dark nature of the ink used, unless you concentrate, the black and green colours are not easily distinguishable unless directly compared. This shouldn’t really matter as the tiles where it might (Dragons) are different Chinese characters entirely.
2. The rules refer to a Chwang Tze to hold the Wind counters which is not included.
3. The West counter character bears no resemblance to the Chinese character for West used on the tiles; non Chinese speakers would mark them to denote wind anyway.
I’ve wanted my own Mahjong set for years now. I’ve looked online, but never bought one until now. This is exactly what I was looking for and I can’t wait for everyone else to wake up so we can play!
This set both looks and feels great. Neat, clear designs are engraved on weighty pieces. The constant ivory tone is tasteful. The case looks close to hand stitched leather. The trays and racks provide for neat storage and play. Overall excellent value for money. Loved the hand signed note from Lisa at Jacques…packed with love. Really nice touch.

Les cassiers de rangement l’intrieur sont bien pratique.
Les tuiles et les marques sont de bonnes qualits et de taille correcte.
Les ds et les marqueurs des vents sont un peu petit mais cela ne drange pas la jouabilit.
Attention, pour les novices Il n’y a pas de notice en franais.
Cette article bnficie d’un trs bon rapport qualit / prix.
Pour complter cette article vous pouvez commander une notice ( Novices) et un tapis de jeu pour le confort.
Great product for the price. I feel maybe the inside of my case wasn’t properly glued in place. as it looks alittle uneven and has a crease near the middle where it looks like its not glued at all. The latches feel alittle loose but i havent carried it around much yet so hard to tell if this affects anything at all. Overall i still give 5 stars. Its a new product. And the faults might just be a trade off for it being handmade. Would buy again if i needed another.
