I have an extensive Makita tool kit used professionally but I have to say that I’m not impressed with this. It gets hot quickly and will cut out to protect itself. Handy for the times a corded version isn’t really feasible but much prefer my Fien corded multitool.

Good motor. Great for all day use. Have a few batteries in 5 amps and you’re findig you’re organized with them charged and ready…..
If you already own a Makita product, then this is a great buy at a great price and well worth buying. Could be expensive though, if you dont already own a makita product and have to buy a separate battery.

Makita what more can I say brilliant make in my opinio
I bought this tool for a particular job. This was cleaning tile joints in wall tiles. this it did well, but i haven’t used it since
My husband said it worth the money it does what it’s needed to do
Exactly what it says on the tin. Good quick service
Great product, has a light on the front (very useful). Blade attachment is really simple to use but the Allen key holder is not the best…. Might need to tape that in to stop it falling out. Not worth docking a star for that.
Excellent multi tool for a variety of different uses. Highly recommend

Great for most tasks, have used it to cut wood, metal and plaster board. All round a great tool
Love the compact feel and the built in light. OK you need to use an Allen key to change blades but I think the design and features outweighs the quick change. Vibration not bad and does a great job

Valuable tool, don’t know how I managed without it before
Great tool to have, handy for a multitude of different tricky uses.
Really like how these tools come with the allen key and slot on the tool for keeping it. Saves losing it and searching through your bag everytime you need one.
Can’t believe I am giving a bad review for a Makita tool. But this has a major flaw. The screw for tightening the blade becomes loose after a minute or two during use. This is a disaster especially if you are on a ladder and the blade keeps falling out. Spend the extra money on the next model up . It doesn’t have a screw. Update started using Fenn star lock accessories with my multitool. What a transformation especially the sanding pads . A bit expensive but hey that’s what you pay fo

Wanted one of these for some time, works well with the 18 volt batteries from my Makita drill – very handy. Lots of power.
So many uses and sure I don’t yet know em all. Range of accessories is boundless! Works well usual quality from Makita
Very useful and robust. Keep losing the Allen key though
A great tool to have handy for taking out floorboards and other uses. The only thing is the vibrations are quite strong compared to the 240v corded model, how ever I am very happy and it does what I need it to!

Purchased this to replace my 7 yeah old Bosch one. Much better and very handy being cordless. Little led torch is a nice touch
Used it while fitting upvc window sills… Easy cutting with this tool
I bought a Multi tool for awkward jobs and to save bringing in a larger saw to jobs. This is helpful for cutting accurate shapes out of wood, units, floorboards. Cuts plastic nicely too. With the correct blades it can also cut copper pipe and wood with nails. Grout remover tools I usually find are no good but fit a grout remover blade to this and it’s an easy job. This version uses an allen key to tighten and can loosen at times but not an issue. I do worry that it could be lost as it fits in a hole on the tool, but so far ok. It can take most makes of blades. I have been using Bosch and Erbauer blades. The Bosch metal being good for copper pipes.

Buy one of these now, I guarantee you will not regret it, this one uses an Allen key method of changing the blades rather than the quick release, but to be fair there is nothing hard about changing the blades with an Allen key. the amount of tasks this little beast takes on is constantly increasing, and I do recommend you get a decent set of decent blades and bit fittings as you will go through them! and invest in some good batteries and a charger as regrettably these are sold separately, and for the price you would expect it to at least come with a battery. other than that a perfect little tool that replaces a whole bag of tools.

Great tool wish I had got the quick blade release model
Makita, what can I say. Personally I’m a builder and all my tools are makita. But In saying this you still need to register this to get the full 3 years warranty. The best quality tools can still slip through the net and become defective after a year:( this is my second one I have bought I didn’t register the first;)

Great tool and uses comparable Makita 18v battery, on time delivery
Does the job .
Good value but bit heavy and hex key required to change blade
Oscillation move is quite small, so speed of cutting is also slow
Great item very pleased with the item it’s so vesitil
Great liked everything about it. Good quality product, very good price. delivery usual Amazon excellence.
Was so impressed with the versatility of this item. I have used it for so many things since I bought it and I use the battery off my Makita cordless drill, which is handy and saves having to buy a separate one. Certainly recommend this

Great product but gotta keep checking and tightening the nut that holds the blade in as comes lose and moves ,, but if check and tighten then it’s fine, happy with i
You get what you pay for with makita as always
Well balanced tool, I chose the keyed model as the flip over clamp on the keyless model reduces ability to get into tight spaces, and comes without led light unlike the keyed model.
Bought Makita blades separately, also of excellent quality.

So, having spent quite a few pounds buying 4 x Makita 5.0ah batteries i am a little tied to Makita tools – that said, i’m happy to be. This as with all the tools i own appears to be excellent, i need to trim the bottom of some skirting boards to fit some wood flooring, without removing the skirting boards, and this is the perfect tool for that job. It costs just over half a good carpenters daily rate, and with plenty of instructions and guides available on Youtube, makes light work for DIY tasks.
How did i managed before without this tool? Absolutely awesome. Does everything needed with no fuse and so versatile. I bought this to cut plaster board and to notch out joists and it has done it better than my expectations. Would highly recommend it even for the DIY’er. This is one tool everyone should have in their kit. 5

I am using it for 5month, twice a week and it’s great. Fast Delivery, powerful, easy to use and accurate saw. It works with LXT battery (not delivered), used for many LXT tools. I was using powerplus, Bosch, Skil but this one is better and almost same price…

How did any tradesman get by without one of these tools ! Bought body only as I have an extensive Makita kit already . It’s got a good weight to it and doesn’t feel cheap but still able to use one handed . Blades are easy to change with the Allen key that clips to the side of the body . It has speed control depending on the job in hand . Also has an LED to illuminate the area being cut . Very happy with this tool and would recommend .

Very good product dose what it says on the box. My only complaints are it could do with a quick release as doing up and undoing becomes a little tiresome, the ergonomics of how you hold the thing could be better. Other then these small issues it’s not a bad tool for the money.
I have a mains powered machine but this one is equally as powerful , I only use genuine makita batteries though.
Works great as you’d expect from all makita gear & the led light is real handy n bright.
Very powerful great but on higher gear it vibrates so much.
great piece of kit and a great price, used today on some regrouting and it coped easily, with very little hand vibration than cheaper models
I Really should of got this before! I mainly use it for cutting wood and metal and as long as using decent quality blades you can’t go wrong highly recommend, well built and led light very handy does like to draw battery but will last me most of a day on a 4 amp for on and off use on a job

What a brilliant tool, found uses for it I didn’t even think of! Don’t know why I struggled on for as long before, up there with an impact driver for usefulness! Needs a decent battery though, a 4ah or 5ah as this draws a lot of power. 3ah is ok for small jobs.
I’ve only used this product twice and each time its surprised me, its easy to use and works efficiently. I am pleased with this product!
Excellent Tool for any DIY’er or Tradesman. Unfortunately mine was stolen from my van 2 weeks after purchase 🙁 However the time I did have with it was great. I have since purchased another Makita Multi Tool, but got the quick release version which doesn’t require carrying the small Allen key to remove the tools. Used with a 3.0ah and above powered Battery is a must.
What did I do before getting this product???? Bought as a nice to have prezzy, but it has proved so useful that I use it most days. Easy to used and feels very well made – we had already “bought into” Makita 18 volt battery product so this just fitted in nicely>

Like all the Makita range this cordless multi tool is well built and has the added advantage of the Li-on LXT battery range. As you probably know all the LXT are compatible with the same batteries and the genuine ones work very well.
This tool by nature does require a fair amount of current so I would suggest a 4 or 5 amp hour battery for use with it.
If, like me, you are using these tools on a daily basis this is a very good addition to your tool kit and you will find that it is rarely out of your hand when fitting bathrooms/kitchens/windows etc.
The multitool is a versitler piece of kit and the blades are easy to change. Strongly recommend for joiners of all types and very good for lots of hobby applications also.
Great tool, that becomes more useful the longer you have it. Saves so much time on so many jobs.
Excellent piece of kit…makita for me are the bes
fantastic tool with as many uses as your imagination can come up with
Amazing tool but make sure you use decent blades too.
A great tool in any kit. Well made and evenly balanced in use. Another excellent Makita product.
This is a great bit of kit. I’ve being doing jobs specifically to use it and its performance has been very good. I don’t find it an issue to have to unscrew the blade fixing nut, it only takes seconds.
This is a top-notch tool. It feels heavy and solid.
Ok, I’ll be honest- I made a mistake.. there, I said it.
This tool saved me from having to remove most of my bathroom floor and my shower tray.
I am renovating a Victorian house, nothing is level. Unfortunately I forgot to consider this while fitting my shower tray. Under the shower tray I constructed a very sturdy framework and cut the waste pipe through it very precisely, it was perfect. Everything fitted when I test fitted the tray.
I went ahead and fitted the tray and levelled it on a bed of mortar, it was perfectly level. There was a canny bit of mortar under one end mind.
After this I put the underfloor heating down and all of the floor tiles. Left it a few days and then went to fit the waste trap. There was a fair old camber on the floor, this meant that the waste which was perfectly fitting, was now far from perfect as it was now 2cm away from the floor level.
This is where the Makita comes in- did you know that you can fit this item down a shower tray waste hole! I didn’t until I really needed to, battery first, then the body, fit the cutter back on and then fit the battery. Jobs a good un! Then all you need is an endoscope for aim ( and skinny arms).
It took about two hours to do the job, but frankly I would take that every day over re-tiling and refitting the shower tray.
Yes, this isn’t the all singing all dancing top of the line model. However it is compatible with all of my Makita batteries etc and performed the job with no issues.

Great tool but why a hex wrench holder on body? Doesn’t make sense for a tool that is all about a oscillating blade. Any resistance encountered, hex nut just loosens and the blade falls out.
Good, solid Makita tool. Bought Makita as I have several Makita cordless tools already. Quite heavy, but that helps lessen the vibration. Used it to help fit a mortise lock, so nearly paid for itself in one go. Will have to get used to this type of tool, and fully find out what it’s good for. Will prob buy a sanding head, mainly for use when decorating, filling etc. It is annoying to have to use the Allen key to change blades etc. If I thought I was going to use it a lot, would definitely go for the newer version with the rapid change system.
As you would expect from Makita, works with my drill battery, great quality and does what it is supposed to.
Fabulous power tool albeit costly but then you get what you pay for.
It did break during the defrosting of the bathroom tiles but Amazon were superb and replaced within a couple of days.
Great product. Welcome addition to my 18v collection. Works really well with 4ah battery
Would recommend.
This tool is absoluteley excellent. I have put off buying one for ages but when I started renovating our bathroom I decided to take the plunge.
It handles everything you would expect from it with ease, from cutting skirting board to plunge cutting plasterboard and plumbing pipes. It saves so much time and it is a pleasure to work with.
Battery life is reasonable with 4ah batteries but as I already have multiple Makita batteries I always have a spare.
There is a newer tooless blade change model available (DTM51Z) but it does not have the LED working light. When working in cramped/ dark spaces the LED light is invaluable so I opted for this version.
My only negative is the allen key used to change the blades keep falling out from its holder on the tool when the tool is in use.
Another baby to add to my collection. Superb gear Makita
Very good but would opt for a quick change model if looking agai
Very handy tool to go with the rest of my makita collectio
Great tool. Im a spark and use it mainly for floor cutting floor boards and plater board walls. Nice, easy and neat cuts. Im sure itll come im handy for plenty of other stuff to.
Great tool!
Pros:
– Well built, as you’d expect from Makita.
– Cuts really well, even with the cheap blades I have. (Hilka set for 13)
– Slightly more oscillation movement than many other similar tools as far as I know. 3.2 degrees rather than 2.8 or 3 on many others.
– Can be surprisingly quite when used at lower speeds, between 1 and 3 is not bad, especially for sanding and similar jobs. Although of course makes a bit more noise once you start cutting. Between 3-6 (maximum speed) it’s still less than all other 18v ones as far as I know, although gets fairly loud. At high speeds I’d certainly use ear protection. At minimum speed with no material contact I measured about 65db from about 1ft away. Similar to a large room fan. At maximum speed while cutting soft wood with a wide blade I measured about 105db which is a lot. (Disclaimer: For safety please check the user manual.)
– As far as I know this also has the least hand vibration compared to other 18v oscillating tools (Disclaimer: For safety please check the user manual.) I think this actually vibrates less than my cheap rotary tool, although of course when starting to cut material the vibration increases a bit. I hate vibrating tools but this wasn’t bad at all for me.
– Has a nice LED light at the front. This is why I chose this older model. Also there was about a 40 price difference which for me is worth it, as I can spend that on batteries or blades. I saw a cutting video on Youtube comparing the two, the noise seemed to be the same and the cutting speed seemed to be the same. This slightly older version is slimmer which is nice, and it has no quick release for the blades, which is perfectly fine for me. I have no problem with an extra 25 seconds to change the blade. A large hex key clips into the bottom of the unit and is easy to remove from its clip when needed.
– Has an optional dust extractor accessory that costs about 12 if I’m not mistaken.
I have Bosch 18v batteries, but the bosch multi tool is louder, it can’t stand upright which is important for my small home-workshop, and costs double (Approx 160 vs 80) so for that price difference I had no problem just buying some Makita batteries. Two genuine ones are about 77 on Amazon right now, but I decided to save a bit with a non-original. I’m using a “Masione” 3Ah that cost 20 and it’s working just fine so far.
Cons:
– Even though it’s supposed to be the quietest option, it’s still lot of noise. Certainly much more than an 18v jigsaw. Not a problem for a workshop (use ear protection obviously) but for my small studio with a cat it’s too loud at high speeds when cutting. Not an actual issue with the tool but worth mentioning.
My rotary tool is a bit quieter at maximum speed, but doesn’t do all the same jobs, and also throws a lot of dust and sparks everywhere, compared to this which is slightly more clean, although still creates dust obviously. So for those times I want to work on small projects with a bit more quiet, I’ll just have to build myself a noise isolating “glove box” which is also really nice for not getting dust everywhere.
-No quick release for the blades. Not a problem for me.
Conclusion:
Extremely pleased with the tool, but for some of my uses I will need to make a box with a window to dampen the noise.
It won’t sand as well as a dedicated sander, and it won’t cut as well as a jigsaw, etc. – But it’s great for making small cuts, working in areas where other cutting tools won’t fit, etc. I would say it’s a great addition, but not something to replace all others.

Other than the lack of a supplied battery (Amazon really are bad with the misleading picture so be warned, read the description) this is a great product. Haven’t tested this for longevity so we’ll see how this fairs with future workloads. Good value if you’ve already got Makita tools with the LxT battery packs; I like the weight of this and advantage of not having to find a plug socket. Can be used in conjunction with universal blades from the likes of Saxton, etc. Would have been nice to have a spare hex nut as this is probably the weakest link; it needs to be done tight otherwise it obviously shakes itself loose and I can see the socket having to take some stick. The supplied hex key does fall out of the holder if not pushed in properly. If you’re after something budget or you don’t have other LxT tools then I’d stick with something mains powered.
I bought this over a corded version as I wanted the extra mobility that a cordless multi-tool offers. In hindsight, I wish I got the corded. This is a good tool – with the usual Makita build quality, but it just lacks the power of a corded version. When cutting into tough stuff, it frequently cuts out to avoid overloading the motor, requiring you to switch it off then on again. It can be pretty frustrating, and means you have to go pretty slow. For light work though, it’s pretty good.

Can believe I lived without this tool for so long. Amazing !!!
Good kit. Three year warranty via the internet is very worthwhile.
If you do not own a multi tool. Buy one.
Having bought a Makita cordless drill and impact driver earlier in the year, I was captured by the interchangability (is that a word??) of the battery packs – buy the body of the tool and use the same battery that you have for other items! Result!
If you are wondering whether you need one of these tools – check out some of the Youtube videos. All those jobs where you can’t quite reach with the hacksaw…pipes under the bath, little bits of timber that need trimming, a hole needs cutting into plasterboard, grout that needs removing, architrave that needs trimming because you’re fitting laminate floor….this gizmo answers your prayers.
If you are like me – quite enjoy the odd bit of DIY but often refrain from doing so because you don’t have the right kit and consequently end up in a nuclear meltdown when things aren’t going as they should, then this tool is for you. I’ve had it for a month and it’s paid for itself (in saving my sanity) by just being there to finish jobs off – cutting a small section out of MDF that my jigsaw would make a mess of, for example.
And of course, it’s Makita. If you’ve ever owned any Makita gear, you’ll know that they’re not just good – they’re THE BEST! Quality central. And this baby is no different. It feels good, weight is just right – balances well in your hand with the battery on. It has a small LED at the front to light up the work area – very handy when you’re in a cupboard or dark corner. It oscillates at some ridiculously fast rate – controlled by a rotary switch towards the rear, so you can go from slow to very, very fast very quickly.
It’s a great addition to my toolbox and reassuring to know that I have a piece of kit that does all those ‘tricky’ jobs – for example, I have some 22mm copper pipe running up a wall and I was going to buy a pipe slice to cut it – now I don’t need to! This little fella will do it for me! Huzzah!
There is another version (slightly newer) that has a ‘quick release’ mechanism for the blades. I would think this would be very helpful if you were a tradesman and time was money. Changing blades on this model is via a hex key, stored near the battery, and to change from one to another would take about 30 seconds. This suits me – and the money saving it gives too.
I love this tool. Oo-er.
Buy with confidence.
Makita are the best stuff around. this replaced my Bosch 240 v machine that gave up the ghost. very nice bit of kit. the only gripe is the allen key tends to drop out when using it for a long period.
best price available and as always its a makita, what can i say. Love i
Great quality, great price. Typical Makita, will do anything that it is intended for very well.
I have had three other brands of this type of tool. This is by far the best. Most handy tool in the bag.
Quality Makita tool, and does the job perfectly. Fantastic piece of equipment.
Simply brilliant. For all those difficult pain in the butt jobs.
it saves so much time in awkward places when there is no power around
I’m very happy .received it very quickly in the post . Thanks
A brilliant tool, only gets 4 stars because it comes without a carry case.
A very versatile tool made even more handy because of its battery power and it’s ability to go anywhere
