What a difference this latest up to date 20L dehumidifier from Meaco makes. It now comes with an optional air purifying filter as well as its excellent ability to dehumidify our home. The air purification filter adds an additional ‘load’ to the air induction volume but is well worth the small energy increase. This new addition to our home replaces our first 20L Meaco which died after eight years loyal service. Our second is still operating non stop in our cellar and is five years old. As for our new model, we now have clean air as well as a cleverly controlled humidity level control. The laundry setting for indoor drying is still easy to use and continues to save us the additional cost of a ‘tumble drier.’ Thank you Meaco. Thank you Amazon.

I purchased this quite some time ago now. I waited before leaving the review to be sure of the performance. I read many reviews before purchasing. The one comment that stood out was regarging the energy efficiency, that it was too expensive to run. Honestly, I can’t validate this comment as I don’t have a smart meter but I haven’t noticed much difference in my bills. I don’t have this on permanently, only in the winter when needed. it works well and helps with mold forming around the window frames etc. I don’t find it noisy but it is a little heavy to carry around the house. However, since it has wheels you won’t have to do this unless you need to lift from wooden floor to carpeted areas. It is easy to see when it needs emptying, so I have never had the alert go off – although I think it has one for when it reaches full capacity. But 20l is quite a lot so I don’t think this will ever get full in one go. I highly recommend this product.
I would like to trim it down.
Symptoms:
Wake up in the morning and starts sneezing.
starts running nose.
starts watery eyes.
This only ends if i leave my house, go to job or any other place then my flat, but if i stay situation will be getting worse and worse every hour.
In my family only i have this problem, but since i bought this De-humidifier all allergies stopped, the flat looks a bit warm and good atmosphere in the flat.
This machine is a bit noisy to keep it running at night, but it is very good to clean air,
On the side note i would like to say, our flat is very very old and very very small like most flats/houses in UK, But why in UK authorities not making big houses, i have seen some new dwellings as well but they are way too small. sometimes you open your main door and you will see your neighbour standing face to face on his main door. In England houses are built by private contractors who are greedy and to save spaces they build as small houses as possible, if you seen the new open plan kitchens which are actually they stick appliances on one wall of sitting room and done 21 century kitchen is ready.
The Govt. should make it law to make big houses, double rooms should atleast take a super king size bed, they should be laws about wide walk ways etc.
This dehumidifier was recommended to me and It is one of the best things we have ever bought for our home. We started with humidity levels as high as 77 in the bedrooms especially first thing in the morning. We have been able to bring down the humidity levels under control throughout the house to 50-55 rh in around 3 -4 weeks . The air in the house feels lovely, light and fresh and the central heating is able to be more effective. We move the machine about as needed. Sometimes upstairs and sometimes downstairs .
The clothes drying facility works very well. Previously we would have clothes on the drying rack for 2 whole days and they would not get dry. Now clothes placed on the rack are dried overnight when I use the dehumidifier in the same room. This machine is a credible alternative to a tumble dryer and I imagine a whole lot cheaper to run.
I purchased this using Amazon’s ‘pay monthly ‘ facility which has been an added bonus . Highly recommended piece of kit.

There are some products you’re never going to get excited about, particularly a noisy energy munching water collector. That said, it’s the best of the two we run daily during the colder months in our damp flat. I’d rather spend the running costs on central heating but with d/g windows that are like Niagara Falls and carpets that make your feet wet, we have little choice. It’s background noise but so long as you have subtitles on the tv, it’s not so bad. Has a good capacity tank. No idea how they say it can manage a huge house. Timer facility is useful. Easy to move around.
My flat suffers terribly with damp -for a number of reasons -its single block walls with only an inch of polystyrene insulation, it has no central heating -so the windows don’t get left open much in autumn / winter / spring -say what you like about how you should open windows during the day -me and my partner both work, and it gets down to 8 degrees in the flat in the winter with the windows shut (with a small oil radiator to stop it freezing) -and it gets a lot colder with them open! This machine is a great compromise -it dries everything out at a low cost and even seems to warm slightly. It is annoying that it forgets its last setting if the power gets interrupted, and the smart oscillating louvre feature, that i thought would help move damp air around only actually functions for a few minutes and then stops. I’m always surprised that units like this don’t have an ‘air-conditioning’ feature for the summer -because i’m pretty sure they use a similar refrigerant-condenser system like an air conditioner, but hey ho -it does have a ‘just blow air around’ setting so you can use it as a fan. Attractive. Big water capacity. Really pleased with it.
Works very well in a flat that has open plan dining and kitchen…great for bringing down the condensation
Could be a bit quiete
This is the third dehumidifier I have bought. The previous two were Ecoair and stopped working after a year or so. Also the replacement filters were a silly price. So I read all the reviews before buying this Meaco and have to say I am absolutely delighted with it’s performance. We live in a bungalow and condensation is a really big problem in the winter, causing mould and blistering the window cills. Within 2 days it has stopped the condensation on the windows completely. It has a huge collection capacity, which I empty twice a day. It is not noisy. There is an option to add a filter should you wish. They included one with the machine. I have had a look and replacements are about 32 for three filters, which is really good value.
I just hope this Meaco lasts longer than the Ecoair. I really hope so as it’s an awesome piece of kit.
This dehumidifier is sturdy and really works. I use it to keep damp levels down in my bathroom and kitchen during the winter months. Have used it for 9 months now and it works like new. Easy to empty the tank also, which is important.
If you want a straight de-humidifier which is great at removing large amounts moisture from the air, then this device is the one for you. However, I have a collection of guitars which need to be kept at a humidity of 45-55% and it can’t reliably bring the moisture content down within that range. My main problem is that once it has reduced the humidity to a given level, it switches off for 30 mins. Nothing wrong with that, but when it switches on again in order to sample the humidity, it only runs for 30 seconds before deciding whether or not it needs to start removing moisture. What I am often seeing is that 30 seconds is not long enough for it’s sensor read the actual current humidity. So it shuts down for another 30 minutes thinking that all is well. All too often the humidity has risen to higher level and needs to be reduced. If I switch it off and on again forcing it to resample the air, it then detects the correct humidity level and starts removing moisture. I have 4 humidity gauges in this room which all agree with each other. So I am confident about what the actual humidity is. The bottom line here is that I cannot trust this de-humidifier to control the humidity. I have to keep checking and intervene when necessary. Having said all that, when its running its great at removing moisture and would be fine for most people.
Dehumidifies rooms very well and I no longer have mold problems.
It is quite loud even on low setting and makes annoying loud beep sounds whenever any buttons are pressed.
Noise is bearable if you place it on a soft base like yoga mat to reduce its vibration and prevent it from rattling.
Captures an incredible amount of water from the air whilst also filtering out dust/dander.
We have it on constantly and move it between the rooms of our single level flat on its coasters.
We tried both a smaller dehumidifier and chemical dehumidifiers before we bought this and the difference is incredible.
I didn’t realise how much humidity you could remove from a small flat. We usually collect 4 litres per day. I have to empty the 3l container more than once every 24hrs. It’s simple to use: you turn it on. Boom. It’s slightly noisy, not horribly, but in some cases, maybe because of the position, the internal parts make a little more noise, so if you sleep with it in your room, you might get annoyed. Still, great quality, great results. We have a small 2 bedroom flat. We used to wake up with huge pools of water under the window. We still get the occasional residual condensation, but far less than before.
We live in a flat where there is no room for a drier. We found this Which? Best Buy Meaco 20L LE dehumidifier very efficient for both the dehumidifying function and for drying the laundry. We usually put out the laundry before going out for shopping and turning on the Meaco 20L on full power so that any noise that it makes would be in our absence. By the time we return home the clothes are almost dry. We then turn the power to low for another couple of hours to remove the excess humidity from the flat. We do not turn it on at night, though the noise from the low power setting is quite bearable as it is sited in the hallway. Very pleased with its performance.
Does exactly what we were looking for, has helped dry out our 2 bed bungalow. Sound wise we leave it in the hallway and it does not keep us awake at night, sounds like a desk fan. Very easy to use, it’s often quite concerning how much water we often have to tip down the sink!
First of all – I cannot compare this with other dehumidifiers as I haven’t used one before. What I can say is that I was suffering from serious condensation in my new house. Condensation was apparent on all windows pretty much all day long. I hadn’t realised as I don’t use the guest room particularly often but the condensation was so bad that the paint on the inner wall by one window had bubbled and there was black and orange mould. I had cleaned the area with bleach but this returned within a couple of days prompting the purchase of the dehumidifier. It was really easy to set up, pretty much plug in and go. I have mine at a lower humidity initially because of the severity of the condensation and was not disappointed. I plugged the machine in at about 16:00 hrs and I could see a noticeable difference in the amount of condensation in about 4 hours although still present. However the next morning I was pleased to see that there was absolutely no condensation – the first time since the summer. The wall that felt damp previously now feels a lot drier as well. With regards to the noise – I can hear the fan running on the landing when sat downstairs but it’s not overly intrusive and to be honest it’s a lot better that having condensation and mould. One point I would mention is that the intake vent is at the rear of the machine and the instructions state this should be at least 50 cm away from the wall – this isn’t particularly convenient where there is limited space such as in my case when it is on the landing. I’ve solved this by turning the unit round so the front faces the wall but means the control panel is upside down – niggly but a minor issue. Overall I am really impressed with this purchase despite only having used it for a couple of days.
Very quiet and it work perfectly well in a small 3 bed house.I have no more condensation on the windows. It has solved the damp wall in the bedroom.I have empty the container a few times with out any problem so simple to use.
Our house seemed to be always cold and damp, with constant condensation on the inner windows, with this mould started to grow. We purchased this product with the filters at a hefty 290.00. I can honestly say it was been worth every single penny. Upstairs in our home is completely clear of condensation and it feels so much warmer, it even speeds up the drying of clothes we hang up. We empty once a day and everyday it collects a massive 15-20 litres.
The fact that you’re reading this means you think you need one. Spend the extra and get this one, I guarantee you’ll be thrilled with it within a day.
I paid for the filters too which help with asthma and hayfever in the summer, definitely worth doing I reckon.

We only “discovered” dehumidifiers by accident, while trying to sort out heating problems and noticing relative humidity measures which we’d not considered before on some thermometers. The utility of a debumidifier will really depend on the intended application.
Investigation suggested that these might help for clothes drying and keep moisture down. Also if a room is used for ironing, then removing moisture may be helpful. These could also be useful for rooms or houses which have been flooded – though that’s a bit extreme, and it would make sense to get most of the water out first.
This Meaco unit is very good in a utility room for extracting moisture, and it’s probably cheaper than using a heater. It’s reasonably quiet. It extracted 1.6 litres of water from our utility room in under 24 hours, so clearly works. It is also effective at removing moisture from a shower room, though we probably wouldn’t normally want to do that..
It is small enough, and can be moved around fairly easily with a handle and wheels. It may be too large for some applications – that’s personal preference. For drying out a small cupboard or wardrobe it would probably be too large. It comes with a HEPA filter which we’ve not tested, and may be a great help to some people who are susceptible to allergens.
If some areas have a relative humidity of over 60% this unit should be able to reduce the RH significantly. However, if the ambient RH is 50% which is comfortable for most people, it will probably be hard to get the RH a lot lower than that.
It’s not particularly cheap, so it may be worth checking that there really is a problem to fix before buying. Check out moisture levels with hygrometers. For clothes drying this is brilliant.
Overall based on experience so far – a great product.
This machine indeed does what is meant for. Simple operations, looks small (it is up to 3 bedrooms) but don’t be tricked. Use the hepa filter for air purification is an added value. When buy it is provided with one. I really felt the difference when starting using it. The thermostat is not energised every 2 or 3 hours. The initial percentage of humidity was 78! After 3 days now the average stays between 55-60%. No water in the doors nothing sort of mould or freezing inside the house. Best buy, I did for my health and my family.
This works really well and has already signicantly decreased the condensation we used to experience on our windows in the mornings. My plan was to site it on the landing so we wouldn’t have to see it in a main living area. Unfortunately we find it really noisy, so my workaround is to site it in the lounge at 55% setting where it doesn’t come on much during the day, then reduce to 50% at night where it seems to be on all night, but we can’t hear it.
Excellent product. Bought on the basis of it being a which Best Buy and not disappointed. Had issues in the house with condensation and damp and despite this product not tackling the route cause on all cases. It most certainly helps in resolving the issue. Condensation on windows noticeably reduces when this is on.
The best thing is that you see the proof of how well it works when you empty the water holder and see just how much moisture has been removed from the air in the house.
It’s great in assisting with the drying of laundry too. Genuinely very impressed with this item and glad I spent the extra money to get a top end product. Only quibble is it can be quite load if left on through a night – sounds similar to a desktop fan for conparison. Regardless, hardly enough to mark this product down as having seen a few different units in friends houses this is certainly quieter than those.
love this product I have 2 smaller units from another supplier but they don’t have the capacity necessary to keep the bedroom dry. So I bought this larger unit and its perfect, in particular I like that it is working based on the dampness in the air so switches itself off when the room is dry. It is too noisy to leave on at night for us so we switch on in the morning, it also gives out quite a bit of heat when it is working but that’s not a problem. The unit comes with a HEPA filter and we also bought another 3. When out bedroom was really damp particularly in the winter you could smell the mould so we wanted the filters to collect the spores. I highly recommend this product.
ot very noisy and impressed with the amount of water it extracts every day. It heats up the room as well thereby reducing the need to turn on the radiator. However it did not get rid of the damp patches and the mould on the wall despite positioning it near them. In other words, if you have a damp room, using this dehumidifier is better than doing nothing, but don’t expect it to solve the problem.
This dehumidifier made a significant difference to the moisture in our apartment. Highly recommend. Works really well to reduce humidity and suck up water – we clear the water dispenser once a day! Helps laundry dry much faster too.
Outstanding dehumidifier! Takes so much water out of the air, it’s unbelievable!
We had serious damp problems, but now between a new roof and this dehumidifier, they’re all sorted. Small/light enough to move if necessary (I keep it upstairs during the day and downstairs at night), this is a really good choice. Expensive, but well worth the investment. A little noisy, but not excessively so (the fact that it’s on a different floor at day/night makes a huge difference).
Easy to clean, too – just vac the air filter from the outside every couple of weeks!
Thoroughly recommended.
I use it all winter and couldnt do without i
We are living in rented property which over the years is in need of modernisation, but this won’t happen… so some rooms were suffering from some damp and black mould, especially under the windows and in some corners.
We were almost at the stage of moving house because of this problem as we did not wish to live in a damp house….. we actually went to view some properties, but then we found this on Amazon and decided to give it a try instead… we figured the cost of this would be smaller than the cost of moving.
We cleaned all the mould away and installed the dehumidifier, and left it on 24/7.
That was 2 months ago, and now we have no damp, no mould and a much warmer, dryer home.
I would recommend this to anyone, it’s probably one of the best purchases i have ever made.
What is also fantastic about this machine, apart from the fact that it is cheap to run…is the fact that if you hang your laundry up to dry straight from the washing machine then it will dry overnight as the dehumidifier will suck all the water from it..saving on the cost of running your dryer… this will eventually cover the cost of buying the machine.
It isn’t light to carry upstairs, but you can if you have some strength… i can do it and i’m a lady of 60. It does have wheels for moving it from room to room though.
The noise is a soft whirr and it doesn’t stop me from sleeping or watching tv… in fact i don’t even notice it now.
My whole home feels so much nicer now and in the cold weather i can leave the windows tightly closed, saving money, and not get condensation on them.
My ground floor apartment does suffer from condensation. Since buying this dehumidifier I have reduced from 75% to 55% very quickly. They have made no difference to my electricity bill and I’m very pleased with it.
It works as it should, but I would probably try to go for a more powerful one for my 1 bedroom flat.
Faster dehumidifier would make you use it less, not 24/7.
Those 12L are quite misleading (as those are in most of the Dehumidifiers, not just this one) as it’s frustrating to see how you can only get the tank full once a day, being this one around 2L. To get those 12L, you need 80% humidity and warm temperatures, but I need it for winter primarily because of the condensation.
About Low Energy, I trust the specifications, and it’s lower than others, which is the reason why I decided to get this one, and it makes me happy to think I pay less to have it running 24/7, even if it’s just placebo.
About the noise, I thought it will be annoying, as of course you will hear it all the time. But you get used to the white noise and you can be watching TV without noticing it’s working next to you. Although I prefer to have it running on a different room, and not listen to it at all!
A bit better performance with cold conditions will be appreciated, but it resolved my condensation problems, so won’t complain.

Good purchase.
It’s nothing short of remarkable how much airborne moisture this collects, and it does an incredible job of speeding up the drying of the washing.
In terms of noise level, I would probably say it is comparable to an air con unit, and whether this would disturb you or not is really down to the individual.
Lastly, it is easy to use, empty, and easy enough to carry thanks to the integrated swivel handle.
Great unit may look like the love child of R2D2 and a paper shredder but neat tidy and pretty quiet, just a mild fan noise.
It works great at sucking the moisture from the air. It has stopped the winter condensation on the windows and put a halt to the areas of mold we were getting. In the winter with damp towels hanging around, tumble dryer, cooking, ironing and people breathing to raise the humidity level this little unit is a godsend and we will never be without one again.
We searched hard for a dehumidifier for our garden room that has an indoor hot tub. A hard task to keep this sort of room dry but it does the job. Once we have left the room it clears up all the damp. We leave it on 55 setting and it switches on when necessary. Windows are clear and no damp in the room. It’s not noisy. It has a kind of soft blower sound which doesn’t bother us in this room type. It wouldn’t be too noisy for utility rooms also. It would sound like a standard fan in an occupied room. You can direct the blower vent angle. We point it at the windows which helps clear steamy windows further. In a utility too you could point it at clothes drying. It’s not too large and can be tucked out of the way of most rooms.
I don’t really see how it could be and smaller or quieter for what it does.
It’s all we hoped and probably a bit more.
I use it mainly for help with drying laundry and its brilliant I love it. It helps dry all my laundry very quickly especially my French Metis sheets which I use throughout the winter. I can’t tumble dry these as they just ball up and quite frankly its a waste of money and energy trying to dry them this way.
As the instructions did not say if it needed to settle before switching on (like a fridge or freezer), I asked the Amazon community but got conflicting replies so I just switched it on and it worked perfectly. The instructions are easy and simple to use. I’m truly amazed at the amount of water it collects, I use this to water my plants, not sure if this will kill them or not but we’ll see :). It is a bit noisy when high speed fan is working and I don’t think I could sleep with it but low speed fan is much quieter. My only regret is that I didn’t purchase this sooner. It is more expensive than others on the market but it appears to justify its ‘Which’ best buy status.
Great product, Removes 12 litres of water every day, no wonder I had a mould problem. It is quite loud but I just move it at night. My smart meter also shows very low energy being used. So I am very pleased with i
My one bedroom flat suffers from condensation and as a result causes mold/mildew in the winter months, finally took a punt for this dehumidifier due to the low energy aspects of it and it has already removed bucket loads of water from the air, should of bought this sooner and as a side benefit dries the laundry faster. So happy with this.
Worth every penny, i live in a bungalow which is plagued with black mold on ceiling lines especially in the bathroom despite ventilation. We cleaned it all off with black mold remover prior to buying this and not one spec has returned. We bought an Hygrometer just to see what the reading was before switching the Meaco on and it went off the scale, 2 weeks later with this running and we are in the comfort zone. The amount of water this thing pulls out of the air in the first few weeks is shocking and the difference it makes is amazing, no more mold, no more coughing and the heating rarely turns on now the cold damp air has gone which i`m sure will save more money in the long run.
So impressed with the results my neighbor has now bought one too, he suffers from COPD and say`s the results after a few weeks are truly miraculous.
We live in a 3 bed terrace which despite having double glazing with air vents, we continually have extreme condensation on the windows and our fitted wardrobe (I blame cavity wall insulation) and have had to use bathroom anti mould paint on all external walls to stop black mould. I’ve tried little electric dehumidifiers which haven’t really done a great deal so was a little undecided about making an expensive purchase of it wasn’t going to work but decided to take the bull by the horns.
I did a lot of research, having been involved with Ikea’s Live Lagom sustainability project earlier this year and being conscious of running costs I knew I needed to look at running costs as well as performance. The Meaco 12l Platinum dehumidifier ticked all the boxes so I placed my order.
Unpacked from box, put on landing and switched it on. If I was to tell you that it has only been running for approx 17 hours and has already pulled THREE LITRES of water you might be sat thinking ‘Yeah right’ but honestly it has!!! For the first time in I don’t know how long our windows aren’t full of condensation when I’ve woken up.
I’m amazed. I’m astounded. I’m thrilled.

This dehumidifier is proving to be incredibly efficient at reducing moisture in my house. Humidity levels have fallen by more than 20% over the past few days of continuous use and the air feels much better. The amount of water it collects has been a real surprise. Would highly recommend
Brilliant. We have a 2 bed house and it is the perfect size. Quite quiet compared to other ones we’ve had. Great for seeing the washing too. I like that it has a timer and you can set the humidity and when it reaches that it shuts off. Very cheap to run too.
This is a brilliant little dehumidifier. Pulls lots of water out of the air. Helos keep my rather old property dryer than it otherwise would be. Doesn’t use too much electricity too. One of the more economical to run dehumidifiers out there. Worth every penny.
This is great it ticks all the boxes for me low power usage plus low noise and it has 2 filters One normal and Hepa Filter. Tank fills up fast is the only downside but then you want it to do its job. Good Product.
This is a great dehumidifier for a two bed flat.
Very low energy consumption. It has been working a month without stopping and has made the temperature and the environment much better.
Would recommend for flats that have issues with mould.
We’re stunned with how much water it pulls out of the air, and how it makes a real difference to condensation – and damp patches have disappeared in only 4 days which will mean no mould, no coughing and allergies, and no need to replaster and repaint frequently.
Is it noisy? It’s as noisy as a fan on medium which isn’t quiet, but switches itself off for most of the day as if finishes its job so quickly, and when switched off it’s completely silent (duh)
A friend says that she now sets her thermostat to a lower temperature, because the drier air doesn’t feel chilly any more. As we only turn the heating on when we feel chilly, we’re going to save on heating costs for this reason alone!
Now to get one for my parents – their living room gets foggy in cold weather!
Good product, works well & quietly but the user interface/controls are a bit random. You can set the unit up to dehumidify it it reaches a certain humidity %, but this doesn’t always seem to work – sometimes it doesn’t kick in when it reaches that level, other times it kicks in well beow that level.
Also the instructions are poor – especially about how to connect this up for constant drainage – so I’m not exactly sure how to plumb this in for constant water removal.
I had mold problem in rented 2 bedroom house, black spots on walls behind furniture and on ceiling, and it’s hard to scrub it off, what’s more disappointing is that paint peeling off. Before I had 80% humidity in house on normal day and it took couple of weeks to get it to 50%. Machine was working 24/7, every other day in another room. Now I keep it mostly in the kitchen and in room where laundry drying. Machine is quiet, economical and its draws moisture out of air as its say in manual. Worth every penny.
The dehumidifier really extracts a lot of water and does not consume too much electricity. However, I am not entirely happy as it never brings it down to 55% for long. It is set it up on 55% and the flat is a large studio/1 bed,no corridors or staircases. I know that the humidifier’s capacity is up to 3 bed house. We do have less humidity and condensation problems now (June) and I’m afraid it won’t cope during the winter months. I was thinking to return it after the first week but then I thought it might need more time to balance the whole place’s humidity levels. Still, after 3 weeks, if it is on 60% it will make it and stop, but if it is on 55% not so easy game. Again I like the low energy consumption and it really helps me with the laundry as we do not have any outside area, garden or terrace.
Works very well. only slightly noisy, however would not want to sleep with it on. uses very little power. i live in a two bedroom house and have noticed the air is much drier and warmer once this has been on for a few hours. We use the have quite a bad mold problem on the main bedroom window frame this has now gone with the use of this dehumidifier every couple of weeks.
Loving this. We’ve had ours for at least 6 months or so now. The mould in our flat has reduced quite noticeably. In the winter we were emptying it every second day, so it’s doing its job!
Arrived promptly a day before expected delivery. Impressive and powerful. Took water out immediately and reduced the temperature. Tank full every day. However compared to other dehumidifiers I have used, it could do with some improvement in the design – wheels would make it more portable for disabled people, and it could have an added water line to see the amount of water being collected. Other than that it is a very good performer.
What a mighty wee machine this is, it’s been keeping my 2 bed flat in wettest Wales, dry for over 18 months. Running for 55% humidity.
It’s still going strong and the tank fills every 12 hours or so. I’d say it’s been turned on night and day for 17.5 out of the last 18 months and left to manage it’s own usage, and good god does it work hard some weeks.
I would recommend cleaning the filter (whilst turned off) at least once a week, by either running a hoover over it or washing it with soapy water. I’d also recommend running a hoover over the internal fan intake once in a while as this ensures a clear pull through, and thereby less stress on the parts.
Damn fine piece of kit.
20/10/2019
Still going day and night after 4 years. A bit louder than it was in the early years but it’s still going. I also lightly spray the intake with anti mold solution which keeps it running smooth and quiet(ish).
Words cannot express how much I LOVE this product. If I could marry this item I would. I use it everyday to both filter and dehumidify, great for old houses that collect condensation and black around windows, you will be AMAZED how much water is floating around in the air in your house from cooking, cleaning and bathing. My asthma has dramatically improved so much so that I hardly ever take an inhaler anymore. And there is far far less dust too. Well worth the investment!
Brilliant piece of equipment! My husband was not convinced that a Dehumidifier would help (we bought a little holiday cottage near the coast, which is built into the rock and felt/smelt damp) – however he is a total convert! It has been marvellous, does the job well and even my husband was gob smacked with the amount of water that it drew out of the air. It’s great all for getting rid of condensation. We will still use it every now and then. I haven’t left it on overnight – so cannot comment on the noise. If you have a damp atmosphere in your home – get one of these, they’re not cheap, but i’d rather stay in a dry clean air environment than a damp one. I researched a number and opted on this one for the size of our llittle cottage and for the features it offered. Highly Recommend.
REVIEWING THIS EXCELLENT MACHINE AFTER 2.5 YEARS – PERFECT USE, STILL GOING STRONG.
Bought my first house in 2017 (2 bed terrace in rainy Manchester) and noticed the house was starting to feel damp. Previous owners had a dehumidifier on landing, but hadn’t considered one, as thought with heating on more often there’d be no damp issue. There are only allotments behind the house, so nothing shields us from the elements. Have great central heating and efficient boiler and happy to open windows when needed (laundry drying), but always found condensation on the windows and my bedding increasingly felt cold/damp.
I did a little research and went for Meaco low energy as midrange cost, plus timer for laundry mode. Item arrived in perfect condition and on time – quite heavy, but solid handle and sleek design.
I plugged it in on Saturday 1pm upstairs and set humidity for 50%. First reading in front bedroom 77% and upstairs landing 68%. Left the machine running over 24hours and removed 12 litres of water! When I went out and came back Sunday early evening I noticed the house felt different – the air quality was clearer already. Although you can leave this machine in one location to regulate the whole house (2-5 bedrooms), I moved the dehumidifier downstairs Sunday eve as curious about the level (63% which quickly dropped to 55%). Overnight moved it back upstairs and by Monday morning humidity was 50%, so turned it off. When I got in last night, house felt amazing! Used machine for just 1 hour (and 30 minutes this morn) in the front bedroom/landing which gets little sunlight through the winter months. Humidity again quickly dropped from 68% to 53% which I’m happy with.
I rarely write product reviews, but was so impressed. It changed my whole house in only a few days, so if you have damp or condensation with little air flow, this machine will be a life saver. Energy use is very low and not had the heating on as much as the machine omits warm air, so all round star buy. Very happy, no more damp bedding.
The only minor down side is the noise — there’s a hum if placed on laminate upstairs which vibrates through the whole house. On carpet very little noise. I got used to it quickly, so only a minor detail for what is otherwise an amazing little machine.
We needed to get a dehumidifier as we’d moved in to a new-build property (which take time to fully dry out) and with winter setting in we we’re getting loads of condensation on windows. After several months of ignoring the problem and foolishly hoping it would get better on it’s own, we discovered loads of patches of mould inside cupboards, on the back of sofas etc. I looked at lots of reviews and saw that this one was the Which? Best Buy – I’ve always had a lot of success with buying their best buys in the past so I thought I give this one a go. All I can say is – amazing! It sucks so much moisure out of the air – we empty the tank (which is large), every 36-48 hours! It has completely solved our condensation and mould problems. The best feature is that you just plug it in, turn it on and leave it – it turns itself off and on as needed. Apart from emptying the tank you don’t have to think about it (and it turns itself off automatically if the tank gets full and you’re not there to empty it). The tank emptied really easily – it simply slides out the front – see photo.
We live in a 3-bedroom, 1300sqft house, across two floors – we simply leave it in the middle of the landing downstairs, with all the internal doors open on both floors and it services the whole house without ever having to move it. It is heavyish (although I can easily carry it upstairs – I’m only little!) but is on wheels so easily rolls from room to room if you do ever want to move it. It’s pricier than many other models but I my view, well worth the money. Top performer!
Superb and effective. I got this because we found mould in one of our rooms and after researching, realised humidity, caused by condensation was the likely underlying cause. That turned out to be true, routinely our 2 bed place was sitting at 70% humidity, which is not healthy and had kind of saturated walls and stuff.
The unit arrived, was simple to operate and in first few days pulled 20 litres of water out of the air. As the home has dried, the walls and stuff has too. Now it sits naturally at about 53%, well within the healthy range. The unit’s eco logic keeps it there, kicking the unit in and out around the range we set (50%) to stop any problems developing.
What we hadn’t realised was that damp walls = cold walls = heatloss = higher heating costs. Although we didn’t want the problem to start with (and I’ve had a crash course in damp and humidity control), we’re now nice and cosy with warm dry walls, central heating set lower and a healthier environment. This unit got on top of the problem fast and sorted it.
Built quality is excellent, instructions clear. The only thing I can fault is that it would be nice to be able to turn the button press bleeps on and off but that’s small beer. Highly recommend for people facing similar problems.
Oh, and as a bonus, it’s pretty effective as an indoor clothes drier too, means we used the tumble dryer less! 🙂
Update – Bought in winter 2016, still going strong absolutely no problems with this unit. We use this less now because it’s done an excellent job of drying out the fabric of the building. It took about a year for the building to give up all the dampness it had accumulated. For the first few months it was running pretty often during in the days but gradually it needed to run less (sensor mode is great for getting the balance right – set and forget). Then in subesquent years it ramped right down. We use mainly for indoor drying of laundry now, to decrease use of tumble dryer. The greatest advantage is no having any mould in the home and gavjng a much warmer, more snug environment. Still very pleased with this product. I came back to review because my mum was asking about it for her home, so I thought I’d give others a progress report! 🙂
I like the way you can set this to shut off when it reaches the desired humidity level and when that level is reached it stops the fan as well as the compressor for 30 minutes before starting the fan and testing via the sensor. What I couldn’t understand why was when the humidity was reached the fan stopped but the LCD went up to 85 I kept turning off and back on until I read the instructions it said it will read higher when the fan stops as it’s the reading from within the unit where it’s both cold and wet once I figured this out I was very satisfied with it.
I have been using ebac powerpac 21 liters dehumidifier for about 4 years and bought this to replace it since the previous one is adamantly leaking. Currently both are in operation, and this has extracted a lot of water already from the bedrooms. Initially for few days it ran all day and night but now it appears to stop and run when the humidity goes up.
Like one of the reviewers mentioned, there was a strong chemical smell on the first day of use and i would recommend to leave it running somewhere you dont bother much for a day before moving to bedroom or the bedroom floor.
I am using the HEPA air filter as well and i am pretty happy the bedrooms feels dry and fresh.
>>> Updated after an year of use:
I am extremely satisfied with this product.
Had previously purchased the 12L model which has performed more than adequately.
It’s been some years since then (2016), and whilst still running well the 12L model’s water trap is now quite noisy whilst the machine vibrates. This I’ve found can be mitigated with some tape around the trap, not ideal, but manageable.
I’ve bought a new house since then which is in disrepair so purchased the larger model.
NEGATIVES:
Very heavy. Especially when full. I can lift it with one hand, but it’s not something that can be done with ease for a lot of people (it does however have wheels).
Noisy at max setting. It’s not an unpleasant sound, but it’s not something I’d like to have on whilst watching TV, you’ll definitely be turning the volume up. It is however fine running in a downstairs room whilst asleep upstairs though.
Water Trap protrudes when full. It’s not a big deal, but – in the picture – the bottom section is misaligned when at least half-full. It bulges out.
Water Trap isn’t easy to remove to empty. It’s oddly difficult to pull out.
POSITIVES:
Has absolutely mitigated the condensation problem I have. This is from the previous house owner having flower beds too high and water running through the air vents. If left running in an enclosed space I can get from 70% to 50% humidity within around 24 – 48hours.
Whilst tall, it’s not *that* much taller than the 12L. See picture for comparison between the two. Note the 20L model also has wheels.
Very large water trap, it’s pretty amazing how much water is taken out of the air as you tip it down the sink.
It has wheels that work(!).
Automatically opens air vent when turned on. The 12L doesn’t.
Hygrometer is as accurate as others I have in the same room.
Handle is sturdy. I can carry it (albeit heavy) and never felt as if it’d break, even whilst full.
Another review has mentioned mould accumulating. The rooms this has been in have black mould (stripped wallpaper to reveal an incredible amount of mould and dampness) and after stripping the unit down I haven’t seen a problem. Same with the 12L. I DO use a hepa filter however. I suspect this can be mitigated with bleach spray but contacting Meaco for advice would be a better bet. I’ve contacted them previously regarding filters and they’ve been top notch.
Overall, very happy. Weight may be a problem for some, as well as the noise, but it does the job I needed it to.
A completely impartial review. First of all the cosmetics of it. Just beautiful…rounded…perfect height…colour with everything concealed feels so robust. Working well…unbelievably quiet…so easy to use…good clear instruction to using time etc from the web site… with everything I wanted to know seemed covered. Inexpensive to run as my bill shows. Being honest…personally… cant fault it. Over the few weeks I have had it…has made an enormous difference within my home. Any smell of dampness…gone…doors close so quietly…the entire house smells fresher that’s for certain. Delivery from the company was excellent. If I could fault it…I would but…I cant.
This is best thing I have purchased. Takes the moisture out of the air really well and stops any mould occurring in our flat. Doesn’t seem to have affected the electricity bill either. It does the job. It is a bit more noisy than expected but don’t notice now that I am used to it, about the same as sleeping with a fan on.
It’s compact and good value it’s doing a good job so far but we haven!t had it very long
I bought this dehumidifier about 3 weeks ago. It’s a fantastic machine. We live in a 300+ year old house where it’s impossible to keep the damp out, solid floors, no wall cavitities, stone window sills which strike through to the outside (causing dangerous black mould), old and slightly porous building stone – you get the picture. Beautiful house but damp in the winter which is when I suffer from respiratory infections; it doesn’t take a genius to work out that there is a link here.
I can’t rate this machine highly enough and strongly recommend it. I have bought similar, cheaper ones in the past which haven’t helped much. With the Meaco I am pouring pints and pints of water away each day. The house feels different, there is no damp smell, the beds are dryer and there is no condensation on the double glazing in a morning.
Before I bought it I read many of the reviews; here’s some feedback on comments I read and a bit of advice:
I don’t have a problem emptying the water container and it doesn’t leak or spill. As with anything containing water you just need to be gentle with it.
It’s not too noisy but I am very sensitive to any noise so I simply move it from room to room (to ones which I’m not in); easy. However, we have had it going in the TV room and had to turn the TV up by 2 notches.
It is pretty heavy; I’m 60ish with a bad back and I move it up and down stairs myself, so not TOO heavy. Obviously I empty the water first.
TIP: when you first get it, turn up your heating and put electric blankets on your beds to get the moisture airborne – obviously it’s easier for it to extract the moisture once it’s in the air.
Worth every penny, get one if you have damp issues.
When I was younger I was lucky to have attended a discussion by the Tibetan Spiritual Leader, HH The Dalai Lama. To start off this chat they wheeled in this Welsh Male Voice Choir who horrified me by singing `They`re Be A Welcome In The Hillside`. I`ve heard of rubbing salt into a wound but this was extremely tactless to put it mildly. However it got me thinking. Blokes in mountainous regions being either Tibetan or Welsh, have for countless centuries, loved nothing better than a good cuppa followed by a cheerful singalong. Is it the weather you ask? Well, Tibet is called the Land of Snow, frozen water and the Welsh air has an active make-up of 9 parts water to every 1 part oxygen. This may explain that whilst they may not appear cheerful and who could when your face is battling that amount of moisture, their actual attitude to any conversation is one of light-heartedness. Indeed, the Welsh have been known to stir many an Englishman to depths of emotions not normally induced without at least 12 pints of strong ale. So what has this got to do with this dehumidifier? If every valley and numerous bleak and barren mountainous outcrop had one of these as big as say, Conwy Castle then we could feasibly get the air ratio to such a point where and this is genuinely possibly, they could even crack a smile. Come on I hear you cry, this piece of kit is not that good and I know that is a tall order, unlike this item`s height but I stand by this statement and say, buy it. Buy it now if only to release our Welsh brethren from further centuries of gurning
I have had this product a couple of weeks now. It replaced Delongi desiccant dehumidifier which broke after only 3 years. I got this one a year after the old one broke. So,, there is time yet.. but so far? Excellent tool. Has far surpassed my expectations and is working hard. It appears to be much more effective than my old one and is pulling out water well. I have noticed that the humidity level is also now much lower than my old one could muster which is yet again a pleasant surprise. I have got the larger model and my house is not large but a deal on warehouse meant I could not miss the purchase. Its not overly noisy but could disturb if in a bedroom. I have it on my downstairs landing and its doing a grand job still. It isn’t the lightest but unless if you have no physical problems then this should not be difficult to move. It is on rollers to maneouver on a level surface. Its not overly large and sits without making the place look untidy. If it continues then I shall definitely put up an update. But, so far, very pleased indeed.
We had the double glazing replaced in our relatively large Edwardian three bed semi and the draft reduction caused a noticeable reduction in air quality. The bedroom in particular was a real issue. The room felt damp, the windows were covered in condensation in the mornings and the bedding never really felt properly aired. Not very pleasent. We tried opening windows during the day but obviously that negated the benefit of our new windows and to be honest it didn’t really help. The cheap (and I suspect wildly inaccurate) humidity monitor I have reached 95% one night.
I opted for the Meaco platinum because it’s cheap to run. I plugged it into a socket in the bedroom and within minutes the air felt fresher. It reduced the humidity from around 75% to 55% (per the Meaco reading) within an hour. It took a few days though to reduce humidity to the 52% needed for the machine to cut out. I guess that’s because it was pulling moisture from the rest of the house.
It sits on the landing now. The bedroom door stays closed at night and we leave the door open the rest of the time. Because it’s been so cold recently I have set the desired humidity to 45%. It’s had no issues gettting to this level and I don’t think it runs for more than an hour each day. The whole house feels completely different. Much fresher. The bedding feels dry and aired and we only have a cm of moisture on the window on really cold mornings. The cheep humidity monitor says the house is currently 52%rh. Highest it’s been is 65%. A 30% reduction is pretty impressive.
I wouldn’t want to run it in the bedroom as it’s pretty loud although it doesn’t run very often so I think you probably could if necessary. Given how quickly this solved my problem and the fact that I’m now extracting very little moisture I think I could have purchased the smaller model but I have no regrets. This is a great product and despite the high price is good value for money.
Absorbs a lot of water and is cheap to run. It also has a display giving you the humidity of the room which helps to know how long to keep it on for. Worth paying the extra money for.
This machine is a beast. It sucks up dampness from the atmosphere day after day without complaint. I have it to keep a large-ish room around 55% humidity for my precious grand piano. It is obviously drawing off from the rest of the house as well but I can’t comment on that because I’m not monitoring that. As far as I can tell very low power consumption as well. It needs emptying every day which is a pain and it makes a whirring noise like an office fan (not loud but not quiet either). You can fit an outlet hose if you have a hole in the wall to a drain or something if you want to be maintenance free. Those are the downsides but it does what is says on the tin (as they say) brilliantly. Me=satisfied.
Fantastic buy. I know it’s not cheap, but it gave amazing results in only 24 hours. It changed the room completely. Uses very little energy. Honestly wouldn’t be without it, wish I’d bought it years ago.
Absolutely fantastic dehumidifier which only uses 250 watts of power at peak demand and can easily take in 12 litres of moisture a day. The plus side of this type of dehumidifier is that it is quiet and will warm the air slightly so a bonus there.
Works wonderfully and really removes moisture. Just one small thing not 100% with mine. After a while there was the slightest change on note as if the fan wasn’t quite balanced.
excellent unit – have had for a few months now and really helps with indoor drying of washing! embarrassing amount of water taken out of the air! well worth it as haven’t had anything like the number of colds that colleagues have had!
This thing has taken a staggering amount of water out of the air of our mould prone house! I presume that’s a good thing. It also dries clothes fast.
Very good dehumidifier. We use it during the wet months every day but also next to the laundry if we can’t hang the laundry outside. Quiet-ish and doesn’t use too much electricity.
Don’t know how I managed before getting this great machine! My house has always had problems with condensation on the windows even though double glazed, but had reduced to virtually nothing having the dehumidifier on for a couple of hours a day. No great difference to my energy bill either. The Meaco is quiet compared to others I’ve used.
It’s quite difficult to review this type of products because to ensure you get the full value of the product, you need to be using this in perfect conditions. In my view, its very effective in a closed door room, and lets be honest- if you want to reduce humidity in a small room- you close the door and open a window. Winter- still, you need the heat on to ensure temp is 17-18 degrees.
I use in an open house- ie no internal doors closed- its quite effective in my attick bedroom- I leave the window open until approx 3- 4 pm ish in spring, then shut the window start the dehumidifier- it makes a difference in that the humidity stays at 60% and doesn’t rise.
My tip- you dont want to aim to low with this unit- be realistic, and you wont be disappointed.
Also, there’s a claim that this unit will raise the temperature by 1+ degree, Honestly- I havnt noticed any difference- and to use this as a selling point is very weak.
Finally a piece of equipment that really works in reducing humidity. The difference is readily apparent. In my old mid-terrace property with no cavity walls – condensation is no longer an issue. I run it on the timer for one hour following a shower – the walls no longer run with condensation. I wish I had bought this years ago.
The Meaco 12L Dehumidifier is as quiet as the desiccant model we had previously but uses far less power. It feels very well made compared to others we’ve had over the years… for instance, the carrying handle (solid rather than flexible and prone to vibration). I would recommend the brand. If you have a larger house there’s a 20L extraction model though I feel it might make more sense to have two of these in different parts of the house.
To say it is amazing is an understatement. I read the reviews and thought surely some of this is an exaggeration, well it is not, it really is that good. We have a 3-bed victorian house which was always prone to damp/condensation problems but these got worse once it is was double glazed. The result being mould/mildew/clammy walls/fabric, the odd musty smell here and there. First thing to say is that I ordered on a Friday afternoon and it arrived Sunday afternoon – very impressive. After waiting the hour for it to settle it was then taken to the worst room in the house for dampness. We had decided that initially we would run it in the dampest rooms before leaving it in the core of the house. The initial reading when it was switched on was 82% with 55% being what it should be – daunting! However within 12 hours it was down to under 70% and the container was 1/3 full, 36 hours later the container was full , 20 litres of water! Pouring that much water away is quite a revelation and a shock when you realise it was living in your room. Once empty off it went again and continued pulling water out of the room. Once it gets to the magic 55% we will move it to the other end of the house. Other comments? Well that room already smells and feels better, you really can tell the difference in the air, smells sweeter and actually a little warmer and more pleasant to be in. Funnily enough the day after I bought it I saw an article about how homes are much more prone to mould and mildew with double glazing, insulation etc and how bad for you it is to sleep in mouldy rooms so I felt very pleased I had made the investment in this purchase.
We are really very excited by this new toy and cannot wait to clear the house of damp with it’s help!
Brilliant at removing dampness from the home. After having double glazing fitted I noticed the house was getting mould grow in various areas of the house – this dehumidifier has made such a difference. The humidity they recommend is 55, it was showing 98 in our kitchen when we first switched it on. Unbelievable. It helps dry out washing quickly too.
Arrived today in a nice box with a big Union Jack on top, unfortunately the dehumidifier comes with a two pin European plug and instructions on how to change it.
Update – Contacted supplier who said that it should have been supplied with a wrap around adaptor. They’ve told me that one will be despatched from their warehouse…
Update – Adapter arrived as promised, and I am very happy with the dehumidifier and it’s performance but, still think it should have a 3-pin plug fitted for UK sales.
Does what it says on the box. It isn’t noisy but it isn’t quiet either, don’t think I would want to try and sleep with it in the room for example. We weren’t sure which size to go for as we have a four bedroomed house but the 12 litre copes fine.
I’ve had this unit for a few months now so thought I would write a review as it has well and truly been tested.
It was bought specifically to be used in conjunction with a Victorian clothes airer for laundry. Previously, we were using a tumble drier but I was getting fed up with clothes shrinking and the running cost was high.
The drying room is a 2m x 3m unheated utility room which has 2 external walls and can get a little chilly in the winter. I was a bit concerned that this wouldn’t be able to cope.
The dehumidifier works brilliantly. A full load of clothes on the airer will dry within 4 hours.
The directional fan is great to help with circulation and speeds up the drying process as we can point it at the airer. The one thing that surprised me is how well it can heat up a room. Before getting the dehumidifier, the utility room would only be about 10 degrees above the outside temperature so when it’s only a couple of degrees outside the room would be about 12 degrees. With the dehumidifier on the room would get to 19-20 degrees.
The amount of water this pulls out of the air is amazing. Having the large collection container is excellent and it is really easy to empty.
The unit is expensive but the running costs are low compared to other dehumidifiers. It is extremely efficient and I am sure will pay for itself in no time compared to using a tumble drier.
The only negative I have is the noise. This isn’t an issue for us because it is tucked away in a laundry room. If we had it on the stairs landing or in the living room it would be distracting. Our son has a desiccant dehumidifier which is much quieter but nowhere near as efficient.
This was a fantastic purchase for us and saves lots of money
Yep really works. I have a 3 bed semi detached house, did have a small to medium mould and condensation problem in all three bedrooms in winter time. Not any more. Keep it on in each room for a couple of hours a day ( easily portable) and it has completely gone. I reduce the humidity to 50-55% which is easily achieved probably in less than a couple of hours really, the box room is done in about 15 mins!!. Easy to empty and is quite quiet, although i dont run it all night. Good features on it. If in doubt check out FIX My ROOF.COM all the info is there on mould control and these dehumidifiers are recommended.
Having recently replaced draughty old patio sliders with lovely new French Windows, and also a hardwood front door with a composite door, alongside a heating system upgrade we noticed a substantial increase in dampness in our loft and on our windows. Having looked around to see possible causes (yes, the lovely effects of great insulation) and resolutions I decided that getting roofers in to replace tiles with vented solutions was not for me. After all, we’ve been here 15 years and this has never been an issue before. The site I checked which had loads of great info about roof space in general recommended a dehumidifier as this is a growing problem as people insulate their houses better.
Our house has 4 bedrooms, a study a utility room, a large living room, a kitchen and 3 bathrooms. I chose this unit specifically because it can cater for a 5 bedroomed house according to the manufacturers blurb. It’s easy to use, really easy to use and understand. It is portable to a degree with the casters but it is quite heavy to lift. When switched on it uses about 225 watts of electricity so it’s by no means a power hungry beast and of course that lessens as the humidity levels get under control and it needs to work less. The first few days saw the unit running quite a lot and we were emptying the 6l tank once or twice a day. This in itself quite shocked me. However after a week, the tank was barely filling up and the device was coming on less and less. It’s all automatic and will switch on and off according to your relative humidity settings (RH) so you can literally leave it switched on all the time if you want.. It is reasonably quiet but not silent and on either fan setting (low or high) we have not found it to be intrusive or sleep disturbing.
After one week, I can now report that the damp in our loft, which was running off the loft hatch and dripping onto our heads has more or less disappeared and this is WITHOUT locating the device in the loft even for a short while. We placed it on the landing outside the bedrooms and main bathroom and during the day left all the doors open to every room. The unit will draw the air from the entire house over time and remove the moisture very effectively. It comes with a 2 year warranty and I’ve now ordered some HEPA filters to see if that helps my mild asthma. Well done Meaco this is a first class bit of kit I never knew I needed. It might look pricey, but compare the cost of this to a new roof had the timbers rotted, or to the potential ceiling damage should the loft dampness seep through the insulation or to the constant job of wiping windows down to stop black mould and you have a very cost effective solution to dampness. It can also be used for clothes drying with the swing louvre, but we haven’t tried this yet until I’m positive the dampness is under control.
We bought this 12L size MEACO thinking that it had all properties that the 20L 5 bedroom house size MEACO with the ‘Which Best Buy award’ but it doesnt…it was quite noisy and doesn’t come with two speeds (the lower speed is quieter) and also it didn’t switch off very often once the humidity got lower. However it did work very efficiently it was just a bit too noisy for us…we did have it in the bedroom with us as that’s the only place we had a problem…therefore I’m sure that if it was on the landing it would be perfectly good for the job! We were very happy that Amazon gave us the help we needed to change the humidifier for the larger one ‘probably overkill for our one room with dampness!’ The supplier was Maplins and there was a shop in the next town to us. They were so very helpful and had the larger machine delivered to us in two days…we were very happy!
This is a brilliant item. I live in a very damp house, and am pleased with the results. At present all I keep doing is emptying the reservoir. Goodbye condensation and mould eventually, I hope. `
I choose this machine after extensive research, and I have not been disappointed. The machine arrived three days before the estimated delivery date, so I was impressed by that. We plugged it in the following day, so it’s now been working for a week. We live in west Cornwall and the damp here is legendary, our bungalow is directly exposed to the Atlantic, which you can see from our front gate, we we get the westerly winds full on, full of moisture from the ocean. Our bungalow has two bedrooms and two reception rooms, with the usual kitchen and bathroom. We have suffered form damp since we moved in, with black mold on the exterior walls, we set the machine at 55% humidity, it took six days to get our air down to that target and yesterday it turned itself off, the house actually feels dry and it a lot warmer. I was amazed at the amount of water that we had to empty, which was twice a day, somewhere near 24 ltr in total. I am impressed so far, and if it continues, it’s well worth the money compared to other machines costing several hundred pounds more, at this time, I can only recommend this dehumidifier, efficient and does exactly what it says on the box.
Money well spent…….The idea is to leave this on 24-7…….don’t panic it cuts in and out according to the humidity….empty when needed..once a day?
I live in a 3 bed semi-detached house….Its OCTOBER ….getting condensation on all windows up stairs and on corner of NORTH facing wall in bedroom ….probably not help as have bathroom & shower with no ventilation……Had this for a month now and as I said I have have left it on in the hall 24-7…..NO SIGN OF ANY CONDENSATION on windows or wall.
I do believe my upstairs has actually become warmer by taking the dampness out of the air.
Its not noisy but it one of those things you might tune in to like a fan at night in the summer.
OTHER THINGS….I had a mould smell in the main north facing bedroom for a couple of years could not really work it out as it would be stronger in the winter months…..what it was was the condensation on the windows getting into the WOODEN BLINDS then they would get damp and get mould on them, creating the smell…..I have now cleaned the blinds with disinfectant and hopefully with the dehumidifier it won’t come back…
I got this to use over the winter months but it also handy when you can’t hang you washing outside.
So easy to use, and IT WORKS !!!! Absolutely love it. Glad I bought this size as I couldn’t of lifted the larger one, it is quite a heavy unit.
I live in a detached 3 bedroomed house and can’t believe the moisture this machine captures. after 2 weeks I’ve emptied 36l of water from the tank. It runs quietly and efficiently in the upstairs hallway. Very pleased I spent the extra money for a quality item.
Operational problem
This dehumidifier does really dry out the house and I no longer have water running down my windows and the build quality is sturdy aend looks good. However, I do have the same problem as reviewed by another customer on the Meaco website. After the unit has reached the desired humidity the unit does not shut down and on very rare occasions when it does shut down, it comes back on within 2 to 10 minutes. It seems that the humidity indication rises and once pass the setpoint starts up again. The humidity reading then immediately falls to the surrounding humidity, which is below the setpoint so the sequence repeats. I believe this is due to the cold air within the cooling coil flowing back out past the humidistat. This air is very humid and so causes the reading to falsely rise. This means the unit cycles frequently when it doesn’t need to, which won’t help with the life of the motor or fan. It also makes it very costly to run. I tested it by upping the humidity level to 75% and the unit still does not shut off as it should when the level drops. I will continue to monitor the performance for a couple more days and much to my regret ifthe problem does not resolve itself I will have to ask for a replacement or full refund.
Since posting the above review, I have set the target humidity at 60% and the unit is now going into sleep mode more often and for longer periods at a time and restarting when the humidity level has risen. It should now be much more econmical to run. It also stopes any condensation up throughout the whole house, regardless of where I situate the unit. I am extremely pleased with this humidifier and would highly recommend.
brilliant product couldn’t be without it. Didn’t realize how bad the damp was in the house. after 2 weeks the house carpets and leather chairs feel much nice to sit on once agsi
Very efficient but is heavy to carry, so would have benefited from wheels for easier manoeuvrability.
I spent quite a lot of time researching which dehumidifier was going to be the best for our household and this seemed to always come out on top. A colleague also recommended this and I certainly aren’t disappointed and it is worth spending the extra.
We live in an old single storey stone scotish cottage, single glazed sash windows with no damp proofing. I noticed part of the house was starting to smell very musty and damp, our wardrobes also were smelling musty and the condensation on our windows was an absolute nightmare every day so I had to invest in something to try and shift the moisture. Not only was this delivered on a Sunday within two days of ordering which was excellent it is brilliant.
We followed the instructions (which are pretty basic) and switched it on full blast. The humidity in our house read 78 on the display but after two full days on it read 60, it’s removed approx 3 litres of water and the air is certainly much clearer and most importantly the condensation is gone!
One thing to note is that dehumidifer does not blow out warm air as some others have suggested. I know this because I contacted the manufacturer to ask why ours wasn’t and I was told it will only ever blow out air that is approx 2degrees warmer than the room temp at that time. I suppose if you have a lovely warm house already you might feel the benefit more than me as our house is pretty cold.
One very small point is that I would of like to have seen on the water tank a marker/guide to let you know how many litres you are throwing away. It’s pretty easy to guess when the tank holds 6L it’s just a small thing I would like to see.
My boyfriend is a tough cookie to win around when it comes to gadgets in the home but he can’t deny the condensation and mustiness has all but gone and I’m sure the longer I leave it on the bigger improvement we will see.
