I wanted to get a little mini PC to use while I’m working from home rather than using my power hungry gaming PC (especially with energy prices at the moment). So I opted to give this one a try as it has 2 HDMI sockets and I was going to be connecting it to my 4K and 1080p monitors.

It comes preinstalled with Windows 11 Pro and everything installed smoothly. However, the licence code for Windows was not included in the device so I had to contact Pencents – they replied with a new licence code within an hour, which was fantastic.

The performance is adequate for the low-powered CPU and perfectly OK for my website development job. The fan isn’t loud enough for me to worry, it’s roughly as noisy as my gaming PC when that is doing video encoding.

The only irritations I have with the product is that it comes with 2 HDMI cables; one is so small it’s useless, the second is long enough but it doesn’t support 4K@60Hz so I had to order another cable. The RAM is 2666Mhz and not the 2933Mhz shown in the listing – on checking with the view of upgrading to 16Gb 2933Mhz RAM I discovered that the ram stick has been glued in place!

Absolutely brilliant and great value for money.

One caveat though. It has Windows 11 on it. Windows as we know is as useful as feet on a fish…

Great product except I find it to be rather noisy.
This may be because I use it mainly as a media centre connected to my TV. I do this because I use the usb audio connection to my amp which gives a better audio quality.

I’ve been using the Pencents U50 Mini PC for about a month now, mainly to save some energy and have less heat in my flat. I’d consider myself a heavy user and had no issues so far – the fan is quiet and the PC remains cool.
