Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOverall, once successfully assembled this is a great little mower.
    Based on my experience of this product all I’d say is;
    1. Check the components are correct. Mine arrived with two of one side of the ladle assembly, as opposed to a LEFT and RIGHT piece. I had to get them to send me a new part out which took time and meant the garden I was working on, which this was bought for, couldn’t be mowed on the day planned/booked.
    2. Be careful when assembling the grass box, when putting the sections together. Make sure you carefully click the pieces fully together in the way the instructions say.

Once assembled, it’s fairly light, feels well made and works well. Not the cheapest but its a good product.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHad a previous mountfield electric mower and it lasted over 30 years here’s hoping this model is of equal quality. The height adjustment mechanism is a definite improvement and very easy to use , the 15m cable not found on other makes allows me to cut the lawn without an extension lead. Some trouble assembling grass box but the rest was fine. Easy to manoeuvre and lift , and gave a good quality cut. The cable socket connection on the machine is too easily dislodged and basically is just a poor design feature .Some method/ design for neat storage of the cable on the machine would have been a good idea.

After getting a flymo that was rubbish my hairdryer had more power. I thought I’d had a petrol one of these in my last home.
    It didn’t disappoint
    Easy to put together
Glide through the grass. And I love how it all plugs in the cable always stays out of the way. Not to noises either 10 out of 10.

I have had a Mountfield before and it was a good lawnmower. The Mountfield Princess is also a good mower, cut grass with it for the first time yesterday and great result. The assembly of grass box was not as bad as I had read about it and I managed fine using a pliers for the las two at the open end of box. I also think for the quality and performance it is not overpriced .

Some problems with assembly of grass collection box. It was slightly warped and needed some force to put together. Also the mower was heavier than our previous mower and harder to push. Left lawn looking very good and goes close to edges but would not recommend for anyone who isn’t fairly strong.

Used a couple of time since it arrived. Assembly was pretty straightforward. The grass box was a little bit more taxing. The power lead is plugged into mower handle and is prone to falling out when pushed along. Works well.

When this mower arrived I couldn’t wait to open the box up and have a look at it. Was not disappointed, it looks the “Bees Knees” and was relatively straight forward to assemble. I can understand why a “non DIY’er may have problems assembling the grass box but with a pair of pliers I had it together in no time at all. Build quality is good, quite a robust bit of kit. Have now had the opportunity to use it a couple of times and can say I am really pleased with the results. Happy gardening folks !

I researched this product before buying and it performs as well as I was expecting. However, some reviewers indicated the grass box was difficult to assemble. That is the understatement of the year. There is no way of leaving Mountfield feedback directly, so whether they read this remains to be seen. I had such difficulties I thought the partially ‘clicked’ together box was going to have to be left partially assembled with tape to stop the rest from being separated. You have to put enormous pressure on both parts in order for them to click together. Probably just persistence and luck got me through it without breaking it.

I’ve only used this as a quick test, but overall impressions are that it’s reasonably well built and easy to manage. The power cord is relatively long and the height setting is easy to work. Having said that, nothing exceeds expectations given that the price of 170.

What would have been helpful is some instructions on assembly. It came with three pages of nonsense about how to mow your lawn without cutting off a limb, falling down or getting electrocuted, which most people manage to do on a daily basis, but nothing on how to assemble the thing.

I phoned up the company and they told me, incredibly, they don’t keep assembly instructions for their own products. I went onto their site and found a PDF for a generic mower, but this had no relation to this model. I was about to return the mower to Amazon when I came upon a YouTube video by a customer that showed clearly how to do the assembly. Maybe the company can learn from this. Even then, I found that clipping the grass box together can only be done by judicious use of a rubber mallet, which I fortunately had lying around.

If it cuts fine when I start using it in earnest I’ll leave the review at 4*, otherwise I’ll be along to change it.

Assembly fairly easy. The grass box assembly was made easier after reading tips online.
The mower cuts well, but if the grass is thick or about 3″ or 4 ” it struggles to cut, even on middle height setting, so don’t leave it too long between cuts.
It’s relatively easy to push around and easy to empty and replace the grass box.

I bought this to replace my long suffering qualcast, that lasted a number of years. The mower is light, it fills the grass box fully, which from experience others don’t. The lowest cut is short, much shorter than others, which I think is great, but it does require quite a load on the motor. I think when this one dies, I’ll get the same but a more powerful motor, otherwise faultless.

I don’t know why I haven’t bought this earlier. I have a medium sized garden and this lawnmower fits the bill exactly, man enough for the job, but easy to manoeuvre around corners and obstacles. As for assembling, I’m not great at DIY, but had no problems putting the parts together.

Does a really good job of mowing my lawn. Picks up all the grass even when damp, leaves nice stripes and the 15m cable is helpful. Robustly made from metal, although the only slight downside is this makes it a bit heavier than my old partly plastic mower. Was also easy to assemble.

Purchased this after reviewing lots of other brands and I have not been disappointed. It is smaller than my last electric mower which was a flymo and a lot lighter. Cuts the grass nicely leaving the much longed for stripe. Very impressed with this mower.

Bought for my partner who says it is much lighter than our previous mower and way to handle. I see some people on here struggles to put it all together. Although the instructions for putting it together could be improved (quite difficult to understand) I managed to put it together quite easily. For the grass box You just need to look carefully and guide the plastic tabs into the slots and push together firmly and the tap hard with your palm over the tabs until they are firmly shut. For the handle, avoid screwing the bolt too far into the small nut inside the plastic handle. Once attached and screwed together the nut into the bolt, just flip the handle to fully tighten. If you can’t flip the handle just loosen the bolt and look. To see how far into the plastic handle you have screwed, you can see if you have enough space to flip the handle.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI spent ages searching for a lawnmower knowing very little about what to look for initially. I spent over a week researching because I kept seeing reviews that suggested the well known brands you’d expect to be good quality had parts that would break easily or just straight up fall apart. My criteria was a light, powerful and sturdy mower with a roller and ability to mulch so I can return some nutrients back to the lawn every so often. This is weirdly hard to find, so I was excited to discover this mower. I wasn’t disappointed at all. Our old mower which had no height adjustment and with dead blades destroyed the lawn 2 weeks ago, basically by scalping it. Following a combination of patch magic and frequent watering I’ve come to today where it felt like the right time to whip out the mower and the results were amazing. It was light and easy to manoeuvre – I’m quite a petite lady with lower back problems so was amazed I was able to go over the lawn twice in under an hour! We did think the grass box was fiddly to put together but luckily we’d read all the reviews on amazon so knew to just persevere and to be honest it was fine. As you can see the end result was beautiful. I’ve only used it once but 5 stars so far! Great lawnmower!

A great little lawnmower that does everything you'd need

Very impressed by this lawnmower. Its feels powerful, is comfortable to use, mulching plug a great addition, rear roller gives good grass striping on the lower cut settings, cable length more than sufficient to cut lawn without need for an extension lead. Yes, the grass box is initially a pain to clip together but once done you will have no regrets re: purchasing this lawnmower.

This is a very good basic machine it cuts well, it’s light, reasonably quiet, two slight moans. I have lawn up to a wall, and it does not cut as close to the edges as my old Qualcast did, I have to get the strimmer out, and if you are looking for a close cut, you are not going to be practicing your putting. That said once we get any longer spells of dry weather you wont want it that short anyway or the grass will scorch, and a flat lawn with no edging restrictions it’s perfectly adequate at the price.
    Over all very happy.

I bought this Mountfield mower because after only lasting about 32 years my old Mountfield finely gave up the ghost. I hope this one will last as long. It is nice and light which is what I needed on my lawn at the rear of house which is on a slope. As others have stated assembling the collector box was just a little fiddly to clip together but with the help of pliers. After trying it on the lowest setting, I personally wanted it cut a little bit lower. I decided to put a spacer of about 10mm between the blade and the flange which now gives me a lovely golf course standard of cutting Finnish. I don’t know how it copes with longer wet grass as I prefere to cut little and often. The quality feels good and fairly solid for what I paid and I hope it will last as long as my old Mountfield.

When the box arrived, it was a bit daunting. Not the most intuitive I had to look at the instructions. But as the assembly progressed, I found reassurance in the fact that the parts only fitted one way. Once assembled, I found it a very quiet mower and really well designed. It cuts close to the edges and produces a nice finish. The grass box is easily emptied. I need to figure out a way to stow the cable when finished.
All in all, a well designed mower, easy to use and very good quality for the price.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis mower was purchased to replace our 15yr old petrol mower which had started leaking oil. Looked up some online reviews which pointed towards this as being and excellent option.

It is very light and manoeuvrable and cuts right up to the edges, still need to strim the borders afterwards but it is much neater than the old mower. Also raising the height of the cut is done by simply moving one lever up or down to the height required; no more wrestling with each individual wheel.

This also comes with a roller for those classic garden stripes but this only shows when on the lowest cut. It also has a mulch option to put food naturally back into your lawn, although I the few weeks since purchasing the mower this isn’t something I’ve tried.

One down side is the cable, it took away neatly when mowing but you still have to mindful of where your cutting and make sure its out of the way – something which I didn’t have to consider with the petrol mower, I am sure I’ll get used to it.

The collection box was a but tight to fit together but with some perseverance we got there in the end.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersYes..the grass box needs a little weight on its side to click the two halves together but other than that a quick assembly..very light to use and oh so quiet compared to my old Flymo electric hover.
However, having had a hovering mower for over twenty years i have a bit of a soft spot for them in the way you can go sideways or any ways for that matter but with a wheel type mower you are definitely backwards and forwards..I can’t fault the cut and the easy blade lowering for a shorter cut which is a lever lowering the whole mower down.
Wow…a nice long electric cord as well.
The roller leaves a bit of a stripe and the grass collection is very good and holds a good quantity.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersReplacement for an old Mountfield 33 for which I could no longer get spares. Easy enough to put together – even the grass box which other reviewers have complained about – perhaps I was fortunate!
Easy to change the ride height which is a bonus – on the old model I had to physically remove each of the wheels in turn.

Seemed to reduce the mowing time as well which was good. Nice with the roller on the back to give stripes on the lawn.

Will amend review if I encounter any problems

postscript – Fourteen months into ownership one of the front wheels fell off. Not the fault of the buffoon who put it together – the wheels are held on by barbed washers (there’s probably a proper word for them) but it was rusty and split. On the plus side, despite the lawnmower being out of guarantee Mountfield sent two replacements free of charge. Probably not a big deal for them but nice to know they can supply parts and answer problems and quickly too.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersI’m a fan of low maintenance patios but have inherited a lawn with our new house. Unfortunately not a large enough lawn to warrant a ‘sit on’ type mower powered by a big V8 with a beer can holder and stereo.

A small electric mower would suffice. It cuts grass, collects it and isn’t too noisy. The Amazon man bought it round so I could avoid a trip to B&Q.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersVery well made and effective lawn mower. Quiet, manoeuvrable and cuts well. I like that the mains lead detaches from the mower as it makes moving it from the front lawn to the back, or to the garage for storage, very easy.

It’s simple to put together, except for the grass box!

I spent about 20 minutes trying to snap in the top lugs. Then put a ratchet strap around the grass box and tried pushing together. Still no good. Then had the idea to use some blunt nose pliers to pinch together each connecter on the inside of the grass box. Easy, done in a minute! So use this tip and it’s no problem.
