I bought this catflap for my cats so I didn’t have to leave the window open , as it’s too cold . It was easy to fit and once your cat’s microchip is programmed in then they can come in and out . The beauty of this product is that no other cats can get in your home . I’m really pleased with it. Many thanks.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIts Quality, great to fit, well made &, Looks good. the swing to magnetism is strong.
The print could be a bit larger on operating instructions.
    Otherwise I chuffed with it.

Does what it’s supposed to although it took my older cats a couple of weeks to work it out. Always get a clear flap, which this one is, as cats will often not use an opaque one which they can’t see through

Very happy with the cat flap which I bought with the adaptor so it could be installed in my double-glazed patio doors. Installation guide was easy to follow and the different settings are useful and again easy to set-up

Only negative would be the outer packaging. The cardboard seems unnecessarily robust it took me a long time to cut open with a Stanley knife – scissors would not work. The staples seem like heavy duty ones too, but I do not own a heavy duty staple remover. Understand need to protect the product on delivery but this seemed like overkill to me and shouldn’t be such hard work to ope

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSo I have 3 cats, and 2 litter trays. After getting our third cat, my eldest didn’t seem to like sharing with more than one cat, and started to go to the loo in the wrong places. I came up with the idea to install this cat flap onto the side of a cupboard, and put a litter tray inside, so that my fussy boy has his own personal litter tray none of the others can access. And it works! Took him a while to get used to the flap as he’s a large cat, but works brilliantly only set up for his microchip.

Only comment is if you’re having trouble, it takes a bit of perseverance. Took my cat nearly a month to figure out how the unlocking worked, he has to be quite far into the cat flap before it unlocks, but the instructions do state that the position of the microchip will affect this so not the products fault.

I bought this to replace a car flap of the same make as I needed the microchip reader to stop other cats coming in. I went for the same brand, pet safe in the hope it would fit the hole already cut in my door. I’m delighted to say that it did fit, although a little tighter. Easy to program and our cat has learned how to use it without a problem!

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersHad two of the magnetic petsafe cat flaps after the lugs broke off on the first one meaning any old cat could get in. Then discovering the an unwanted cat must also have a magnet collar after it was seen disappearing back through the catflap on a couple of occasions. After finding two lots of cat pee (our cats have never messed) it was time to try the microchip version. I know some reviews said they had trouble programming the cats chip to it and fighting with the cat etc but I can honestly say it couldn’t have been easier. We know our one cat is definitely chipped so before fitting the catflap we, when she was asleep on the sofa carefully put the catflap by her head and it instantly logged her chip, job done. Couldn’t remember if our other cat was chipped, so when she was having some food, again, carefully held the catflap by her head and again, within seconds logged her chip also. The new catflap fitted straight into the old hole in the door, so took minutes to fit and the cats are now using it. Durability will have to wait and see as its early days but the magnetic catflap only had one plastic lug stopping it from opening hence why it broke but this new one has two, so much more hopeful it will last.

I bought this cat flap for niece’s cat when they were moving to their new-build house. The first cat flap failed to work after one day and I contacted PetSafe by email. Their customer service department was very helpful and provided some extra information about the installation. It still didn’t work and when I emailed them again, they said they would send a replacement. The second cat flap arrived with some more advice on installation. It has now been installed and is working perfectly. A good customer service team all round!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWhen the cat approaches it makes a lound click as it unlocks. This scares the cat and she backs away. Sometimes takes 3 or 4 attempts to get through as by the time she has worked up the courage it has locked again so she repeats the process. Still not used to it after over a year.
Otherwise works well. We no longer have other cats bringing us mice and stealing her food.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThis cat flap was easy to programme and install. I replaced my previous cat flap with this brand and I notice that the locking mechanism on this cat flap takes longer to click in and there is time from when the correct cat comes in to let at least another two in behind. So if you have a problem with other cats chasing yours I would not pick this brand. Other than that this is a perfectly adequate cat flap.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersHave always gone with sure cat but this product was on offer. Got a builder to install it through a brick wall and my cat comes and goes as she please. I have a cat who’s microchip has loved down her neck and the chop reader can’t find it so I had to ourchase a pet safe collar tag, this allows my cat in and out without issue. However I had no issue with the microchip being read on the sure cat cat flap. So although this product was cheaper I’ve had to purchase additions to allow my cat to use it.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersAfter reading the reviews I thought it only fair to write one. I had a local window and doors supplier fit a new double glass unit to my back door and fit the catflap at the same time (it’s a fully glazed door) I have had no drafts and the device works fine although my cat is a bit unsure of how to get back in sometimes but he always manages. I’ve had it fitted for 3 weeks now and still have the same batteries in it which were standard AA batteries I bought from amazon. Yes the device clicks when it registers my cat but to be honest I like this because I know he’s back in and it’s not so loud that it’s intrusive. I do find the other reviews a bit unfair but then it may be different if you install the item yourself and not have a professional do it. All in all I’m happy and so is my boy with his new freedom.

Monty uses his paw to dib and dab at the cat flap, only then is he happy to stick his head through. As such he wouldn’t stick his head into this far enough to activate it. Amazon accepted return and refund so all is well. Until I find another way of giving Monty access whilst denying other moggies…

Takes a while for cats to learn how it works to get in.
In all honesty it’s in need of a better processor so that it opens instantly. By the time the cats wait 2 seconds they give up.
Also a fair bit smaller than other PetSafe catalase.

    But
There is an a draught coming in as there is a gap around the flap, even though there is ‘Draught proofing’ built into the design, see my video clipfor the price I would have expected a better fitting flap.

First of all this is a cat flap for cats with microchip implants. This is what we wanted for our three cats. Read the instructions in full and make sure you follow them. I miss read (I just glanced at the fitting instructions)! I missed that you need to purchase the adapter if you have a metal skinned door. This meant that the cat flap didn’t work. I contacted petsafe. The customer service was excellent everything was checked and I had not cut the hole big enough (250mm). Out with the tools problem solved. Cats are happy we are happy.
Just take your time and all should be well. Top tip make sure you align the holes for the main screws holding the cat flap together.

Love these flaps as I’ve had similar ones . This is great but the only issue I had was the noise it makes unlocking is a lot more than previous models and it took a couple of days till the cats would use it as they were frightened by the loud clank. It is however a great flap for the money .

  33. Anonymous says:

The first of these that I bought developed a fault: the motion sensor failed. PetSafe customer service was very efficient, however, and I was provided quite quickly with a replacement.

I’ve found the best batteries to Energizer Lithium. These have been in use for eight or nine weeks now and are still going strong.

I bought the flap to keep out an intruder cat. It has managed to get into the house once, since, however; it ran through the flap right behind my own cat, so the flap never had a chance to close and relock. Once the flap unlocks, it stays unlocked for about six seconds.

It locks and unlocks with a “clack”, but my cat (which is very timid) got used to it really quite quickly despite this.

As you can see, the glazed door in which I have it fitted has quite a high threshold, so I’ve added a couple of steps to make it easier for the cat to use.

The replacement flap has worked absolutely faultlessly.

    Excellent Catflap

This was easy to fit, though I did have to enlarge the hole in the door a bit.
It’s well made and fairly quiet in operation. One big advantage is that it does not beep as the previous cat flap did.
My cat is a bit hesitant when coming in and stands just by the door so the catch opens then closes several times before entering. (that’s just her way). This meant the batteries went flat fairly quickly. I bought rechargeable batteries and change them weekly. A minor problem easily solved. A great device, easy to use and lock to keep the cat in.

We fitted this in the smaller pane of glass at the front of our house.

I removed the trim and the double glazing panel.
I then purchased some clear acrylic sheet (15mm thick) cut to size (leave a few mm shy for expansion) this was siliconed in and then the trim placed back over.

This left it easier to cut with a jigsaw rather than trying to cut glass/ pay a glazier s.

The holes were pre drilled on a slow rpm on the drill so the acrylic doesn’t break.

If we leave / sell this house we can remove the flap and pane of glass and replace it easily.

Where it’s positioned beside the curtain also means there’s no draft- not that we could feel one because it’s in a sheltered enough area outside.

Our youngest cat (8 months) got used to this straight away. The 9 year old took a while to get used to the loud click when it recognises the chip and unlocks. He’s now using it no problem (approx 3 weeks) Our 12 year old cat still hasn’t got used to it (2 months now) but that’s just her temperament.

Excuse the dirt of the flap in the photos- it gets used quite a bit!

I would recommend this as we didn’t quite realise how much our cats wanted in and out of the house, it’s easy to fit (using method above) It’s a fair price as it’s well made.

The unlock click does startle the cat. You’ll have to force them through it a few times then slowly hold them in position near it and they’ll get used to it themselves.

Also make sure to test it on your cat to make sure it works ok before fitting!

    Worth the money

This is the second time I’ve purchased the pet safe microchip reading cat flap due to the first one being amazing! This one is going on a second entrance for my cats. Registering your pets chip is super easy, the installation is simple and quick and the lock feature is immediate so once my cat comes through it locks straight away! Perfect for keeping other cats out. I swear by this cat flap and wouldn’t use any other model.

We bought this with the idea that we would be able to allow our existing cat in and out (whose chip scanned easily and he got the hang of it straight away) while keeping our newly adopted cat in, but unfortunately this catflap does not control who leaves the house it, only stops other cats coming in, so we had to abandon that plan and pretty much keep them both in for four weeks. When the time came to be able to let the new one out we unlocked the flap and then had a difficult time trying to hold the new cat in the tunnel while her microchip was read. Unfortunately her chip wouldn’t scan and she got quite stressed, so we have had to take the batteries out and just leave it as an opening catflap for now until we can take her to the vet and either find out exactly where her old chip is or get a new one put in. So, a bit fiddly and we wish we had just stuck with a magnetic one.

Our cat was being constantly disturbed by two local twin cats coming in and eating her food, so this was purchased to replace a very old different model broken cat flap.

The battery life of the improved version is excellent. the sensor is mounted with a shallower protrusion, meaning it’s triggered less frequently if a cat is sitting near it without wanting to enter or exit, than the old version. It also has an 8 second entry time, rather than the old 4 second entry time. This information was provided to me on the manufacturer’s helpline. The helpline by the way is superb!

The improved version has a black coloured sensor in the top of the tunnel. The old version has a white coloured sensor.

I was having real trouble with other cats coming in an eating my cat’s food, peeing all over the place and bullying my poor girl. I was dubious about buying one of these cat flaps after reading some unpleasant stories but I am so glad I did.
My cat is happier too now I think.
She learned to use it very quickly and the noise, which is pretty loud, didn’t really bother her. She did have to learn to push a little more than her old cat flap but she has figured that out too.
So far no other cats have learned how to open it – I read stories of cats learning to pull it open. More than that, I hardly ever even hear the other cats outside in the backyard so she is happier out there too.
It is the same make as the previous cat flap so fitted in perfectly. Mind you, I did have a few issues with the screws so I did have to drill a couple of extra holes to hold the outside part in place.
I am using rechargeable batteries in it and they are lasting fine – more than 2 weeks now (some people said the batteries they used only lasted a couple fo weeks.)
Great buy. I would definitely recommend it. Everybody will be happy (except the unwanted visitors).

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLikes: didn’t take long to install or set the chips on both my cats. Easy.

Dislike: sometimes a cats chip travels away from its original injection spot in the neck so it doesn’t always allow one of my cats to get in as the recognition strip is right up close to the door.
The door allows a huge draft in as the bristles do not touch the outer flap-see pics.
Only once has the cat flap gotten stuck open-again see pics.
The locking mechanism is very noisy I can hear it upstairs!
The round additional add on you can buy isn’t actually needed unless you have a class or metal door. I got it as it said it helped with drafts but to be honest with the gab around the cat flap there is no saving this product from a hefty breeze around the house!!!!! Maybe refreshing in the summer but in winter I will need to find a way to modify this to get rid of the draft.
No unwanted visitors yet which is what I got this item for so hopefully despite its downfalls I won’t be replacing it any time soon.
But considering its faults I do feel this is on the pricy side and could come down 15 until they work out the kinks.
I wouldn’t buy this product again I would have sent it back and got a better quality one but I was in a jam with a Tom coming in and spraying and couldn’t wait anymore.

    4.0 out of 5 stars Ok....ish.....

One thing to watch is where your cat has the chip as I had to get her re-chip due to the chip moving from were it was first inserted. Other than that it’s a good cat door in and out as they want and if I don’t want them out I can and do this.

Item works very well. My cat isn’t the brightest and figured out how to get out fairly quickly but it took a few more days for her to figure out she could get in as well (I had to pick her up and physically push her through!). The click noise it makes isn’t as loud as some of the reviews make out, but I like it as I know she’s about to come in/go out. Was installed fairly quickly in around 30 minutes by a handyman. The battery’s are still going strong after 2 months of daily use which is another thing I was worried about after reading reviews. No other cats have been able to get in and there are at least 3 Tom cats on our street. All in all I’m very pleased with this, I only regret not getting one sooner!

Contacted the company through Amazon who sent me a replacement within 2 days. We installed that and it works really well. Vernon comes and goes how he pleases. However I just wanted to say how great the company was. No quibbling, immediately replaced the cat flap and it was very easy to return. I would recommend this company to anyone. It’s easy to fit and although there is a loud click to allow the cat in and out we moved the cat flap back and forward over Vernon whilst he was eating and he didn’t have a problem with it after that.

Works very well. Easy to install if you have a decent jigsaw. Does not allow other cats in and my cat got used to it quite quickly. She now has the freedom to come and go as she pleases and seems very happy. I had to get a separate microchip as the microchip in my cat did not work and this could just depend on where it was placed in the cat. I recommend using a collar that is not quick release otherwise your cat may lose it. Very easy to programme the microchip and even easier if you are just programming the microchip you buy as you do not have the hassle of making sure your cat is held so that it syncs with the catflap. All in all very pleased with my purchase.

This worked perfectly for about a month. Nothing but trouble since. It eats batteries and is always in need of fresh ones after about 3/4 days. My cat got used to it after I bought one to stop next doors coming in and thieving his food. And to stop the many battles they would have when it entered. Found my cat trapped by his paw and tail a few times as well when it’s closed. He then kicks off with me as I try to assist him. I’ve stopped using batteries now as it’s a waste of money and I’ve tapped down the latches at the bottom so now it’s just a normal cat flap. Started off good but it’s been far too much hassle. Surely better ones out there than this.

I live in a rented house, had to get permission to get a cat. Didn’t want to add a cat flap as it would mean having to replace the door when we left, but leaving the window open just let other cats in. Researched and bought this one. Dad installed it. Worked fine. But a year down the line and I wondered why my cat wasn’t coming in. (Checked batteries regularly – wasn’t that) Watched him try to use it… Green light comes on to say it’s seen him there and registered his chip. Locks do not move. Cat is faceplanting the door and it isn’t opening. Changed batteries – works fine. For about a week. Then again he can’t get in. Phoned customer support this morning. Apparently you need Duracell plus or some other high performance, therefore expensive batteries… And you have to leave it ten minutes after taking the old batteries out before putting the new ones in…
