Installation and set-up
Adapts easily to cut-out sizes for Staywell and Petporte smart flap cat flaps
Out of the box installation into wood, PVC and uPVC. Metal, glass, brick and wall installation will require additional accessories (sold separately). The presence of metal can interfere with the performance of the cat flap including a reduction in read range of the microchip. If you experience poor performance, an installation adaptor will help. To install into glass doors, windows or walls, an installation adaptor and wall extension tunnels will be required.
- Cutting Template included (Size of the cut out may vary depending on the installation material, please refer to the installation chart)
- Screws and blanking plugs provided
- Operating and programming guide
- Requires 4 x AA batteries (not included)

Keeps the other bloody cats out!
Works great for me, i have one on the back door for both of our cats, and then another on an internal door to give one of my cats a safe haven from the other cat who likes to chase her.
Good but could be bette
Takes a while for cats to learn how it works to get in.
In all honesty it’s in need of a better processor so that it opens instantly. By the time the cats wait 2 seconds they give up.
Also a fair bit smaller than other PetSafe catalase.
Expensive
I like the fact it keeps other cats out of our home, and works off our cat’s microchips.
Easy to install
Easy to set up
But
There is an a draught coming in as there is a gap around the flap, even though there is ‘Draught proofing’ built into the design, see my video clipfor the price I would have expected a better fitting flap.
Make sure you read…….
First of all this is a cat flap for cats with microchip implants. This is what we wanted for our three cats. Read the instructions in full and make sure you follow them. I miss read (I just glanced at the fitting instructions)! I missed that you need to purchase the adapter if you have a metal skinned door. This meant that the cat flap didn’t work. I contacted petsafe. The customer service was excellent everything was checked and I had not cut the hole big enough (250mm). Out with the tools problem solved. Cats are happy we are happy.
Just take your time and all should be well. Top tip make sure you align the holes for the main screws holding the cat flap together.
Great but noisy
Love these flaps as I’ve had similar ones . This is great but the only issue I had was the noise it makes unlocking is a lot more than previous models and it took a couple of days till the cats would use it as they were frightened by the loud clank. It is however a great flap for the money .
Excellent Catflap
The first of these that I bought developed a fault: the motion sensor failed. PetSafe customer service was very efficient, however, and I was provided quite quickly with a replacement.
I’ve found the best batteries to Energizer Lithium. These have been in use for eight or nine weeks now and are still going strong.
I bought the flap to keep out an intruder cat. It has managed to get into the house once, since, however; it ran through the flap right behind my own cat, so the flap never had a chance to close and relock. Once the flap unlocks, it stays unlocked for about six seconds.
It locks and unlocks with a “clack”, but my cat (which is very timid) got used to it really quite quickly despite this.
As you can see, the glazed door in which I have it fitted has quite a high threshold, so I’ve added a couple of steps to make it easier for the cat to use.
The replacement flap has worked absolutely faultlessly.
Excellent product.
This was easy to fit, though I did have to enlarge the hole in the door a bit.
It’s well made and fairly quiet in operation. One big advantage is that it does not beep as the previous cat flap did.
My cat is a bit hesitant when coming in and stands just by the door so the catch opens then closes several times before entering. (that’s just her way). This meant the batteries went flat fairly quickly. I bought rechargeable batteries and change them weekly. A minor problem easily solved. A great device, easy to use and lock to keep the cat in.
Worth the money
We fitted this in the smaller pane of glass at the front of our house.
I removed the trim and the double glazing panel.
I then purchased some clear acrylic sheet (15mm thick) cut to size (leave a few mm shy for expansion) this was siliconed in and then the trim placed back over.
This left it easier to cut with a jigsaw rather than trying to cut glass/ pay a glazier s.
The holes were pre drilled on a slow rpm on the drill so the acrylic doesn’t break.
If we leave / sell this house we can remove the flap and pane of glass and replace it easily.
Where it’s positioned beside the curtain also means there’s no draft- not that we could feel one because it’s in a sheltered enough area outside.
Our youngest cat (8 months) got used to this straight away. The 9 year old took a while to get used to the loud click when it recognises the chip and unlocks. He’s now using it no problem (approx 3 weeks) Our 12 year old cat still hasn’t got used to it (2 months now) but that’s just her temperament.
Excuse the dirt of the flap in the photos- it gets used quite a bit!
I would recommend this as we didn’t quite realise how much our cats wanted in and out of the house, it’s easy to fit (using method above) It’s a fair price as it’s well made.
The unlock click does startle the cat. You’ll have to force them through it a few times then slowly hold them in position near it and they’ll get used to it themselves.
Also make sure to test it on your cat to make sure it works ok before fitting!
Reliable and practical.
This is the second time I’ve purchased the pet safe microchip reading cat flap due to the first one being amazing! This one is going on a second entrance for my cats. Registering your pets chip is super easy, the installation is simple and quick and the lock feature is immediate so once my cat comes through it locks straight away! Perfect for keeping other cats out. I swear by this cat flap and wouldn’t use any other model.

You can’t stop individual cats from going ou
We bought this with the idea that we would be able to allow our existing cat in and out (whose chip scanned easily and he got the hang of it straight away) while keeping our newly adopted cat in, but unfortunately this catflap does not control who leaves the house it, only stops other cats coming in, so we had to abandon that plan and pretty much keep them both in for four weeks. When the time came to be able to let the new one out we unlocked the flap and then had a difficult time trying to hold the new cat in the tunnel while her microchip was read. Unfortunately her chip wouldn’t scan and she got quite stressed, so we have had to take the batteries out and just leave it as an opening catflap for now until we can take her to the vet and either find out exactly where her old chip is or get a new one put in. So, a bit fiddly and we wish we had just stuck with a magnetic one.
Make sure you have the 'Improved' version.
Our cat was being constantly disturbed by two local twin cats coming in and eating her food, so this was purchased to replace a very old different model broken cat flap.
The battery life of the improved version is excellent. the sensor is mounted with a shallower protrusion, meaning it’s triggered less frequently if a cat is sitting near it without wanting to enter or exit, than the old version. It also has an 8 second entry time, rather than the old 4 second entry time. This information was provided to me on the manufacturer’s helpline. The helpline by the way is superb!
The improved version has a black coloured sensor in the top of the tunnel. The old version has a white coloured sensor.

Grea
Bought this so other cats could not get in . When first fitted the batteries ran out after a week because my cats liked to hear the noise of the click when they put their head near . I’ve watched other cats try to get in using the ,paw at it till it opens method ,which works on other cat flaps but not this one .

One happy kitty
I was having real trouble with other cats coming in an eating my cat’s food, peeing all over the place and bullying my poor girl. I was dubious about buying one of these cat flaps after reading some unpleasant stories but I am so glad I did.
My cat is happier too now I think.
She learned to use it very quickly and the noise, which is pretty loud, didn’t really bother her. She did have to learn to push a little more than her old cat flap but she has figured that out too.
So far no other cats have learned how to open it – I read stories of cats learning to pull it open. More than that, I hardly ever even hear the other cats outside in the backyard so she is happier out there too.
It is the same make as the previous cat flap so fitted in perfectly. Mind you, I did have a few issues with the screws so I did have to drill a couple of extra holes to hold the outside part in place.
I am using rechargeable batteries in it and they are lasting fine – more than 2 weeks now (some people said the batteries they used only lasted a couple fo weeks.)
Great buy. I would definitely recommend it. Everybody will be happy (except the unwanted visitors).
Likes: didn’t take long to install or set the chips on both my cats. Easy.
Dislike: sometimes a cats chip travels away from its original injection spot in the neck so it doesn’t always allow one of my cats to get in as the recognition strip is right up close to the door.
The door allows a huge draft in as the bristles do not touch the outer flap-see pics.
Only once has the cat flap gotten stuck open-again see pics.
The locking mechanism is very noisy I can hear it upstairs!
The round additional add on you can buy isn’t actually needed unless you have a class or metal door. I got it as it said it helped with drafts but to be honest with the gab around the cat flap there is no saving this product from a hefty breeze around the house!!!!! Maybe refreshing in the summer but in winter I will need to find a way to modify this to get rid of the draft.
No unwanted visitors yet which is what I got this item for so hopefully despite its downfalls I won’t be replacing it any time soon.
But considering its faults I do feel this is on the pricy side and could come down 15 until they work out the kinks.
I wouldn’t buy this product again I would have sent it back and got a better quality one but I was in a jam with a Tom coming in and spraying and couldn’t wait anymore.
Good cat flap
One thing to watch is where your cat has the chip as I had to get her re-chip due to the chip moving from were it was first inserted. Other than that it’s a good cat door in and out as they want and if I don’t want them out I can and do this.

Finally one that works
Problem of neighbour cats coming in solved. Not easy to install if your first purchase with thick wallsunless you have tools and an experienced handy person.

Item works very well. My cat isn’t the brightest and figured out how to get out fairly quickly but it took a few more days for her to figure out she could get in as well (I had to pick her up and physically push her through!). The click noise it makes isn’t as loud as some of the reviews make out, but I like it as I know she’s about to come in/go out. Was installed fairly quickly in around 30 minutes by a handyman. The battery’s are still going strong after 2 months of daily use which is another thing I was worried about after reading reviews. No other cats have been able to get in and there are at least 3 Tom cats on our street. All in all I’m very pleased with this, I only regret not getting one sooner!

Great for chipped cats.
Only knocked a star off as the click when it unlocks is pretty loud and scares off the cats.
If you’re comfortable taking a saw to your door it’s easy to install too.

Sturdy and quiet. Very impressed.
This flap prevents the bully cat from next door battering his way in unlike the previous flap. Easy to install, easy to program, quiet and a good price. I’m very impressed with this one and I’ve bought a lot of cat flaps in my time.

Customer response
We had a faulty one delivered – it didn’t matter how hard our cat, Vernon, tried to get in the window of the cat flap, it just didn’t work. Contacted the company through Amazon who sent me a replacement within 2 days. We installed that and it works really well. Vernon comes and goes how he pleases. However I just wanted to say how great the company was. No quibbling, immediately replaced the cat flap and it was very easy to return. I would recommend this company to anyone. It’s easy to fit and although there is a loud click to allow the cat in and out we moved the cat flap back and forward over Vernon whilst he was eating and he didn’t have a problem with it after that.
Only my cats get to eat their food
Easy to program easy to install and keeps all the neighbours cats outside.
Worth the cos
It took my cat a couple of weeks to feel confident to use it but I’m glad I’ve got it as there are lots of cats where I live. I can now rest assured that we are not having visits from hungry cats when I’m at work.

value for money
Took a while to work out but easy to install good value
Better than expected
After reading about cats not liking the loud click I was worried about how Selwyn would react. In the end I needn’t of worried as it works perfectly well so far. I would highly recommend this door to cat owners.

Reliable Cat Flap
Works very well. Easy to install if you have a decent jigsaw. Does not allow other cats in and my cat got used to it quite quickly. She now has the freedom to come and go as she pleases and seems very happy. I had to get a separate microchip as the microchip in my cat did not work and this could just depend on where it was placed in the cat. I recommend using a collar that is not quick release otherwise your cat may lose it. Very easy to programme the microchip and even easier if you are just programming the microchip you buy as you do not have the hassle of making sure your cat is held so that it syncs with the catflap. All in all very pleased with my purchase.

Easy to install and does exactly what it says keeps unwanted visitors out. Highly recommended
Can take a horse to water….
Product sturdy, well finished, easy to install and programme, but elderly cat doesn’t want anything to do with it, would rather sit out in the rain than use it. Have to wait and see if it changes it’s mind!

Good Produc
Simple replacement for the existing, non chip activated cat flap.
Sometimes faulty.
Had to exchange two of these units until we have the current one. The batteries would discharge very quickly on the first one as the sensor was always switching on even when there was no cat present.
The second one seemed to not pick up on the microchips. The third one though is great and have had no issues. Batteries last months.

Got this to replace 1 I bought last year…hope it lasts longer…the customer care adress is abroad n nobody answers!!!
Too good to be true.
This worked perfectly for about a month. Nothing but trouble since. It eats batteries and is always in need of fresh ones after about 3/4 days. My cat got used to it after I bought one to stop next doors coming in and thieving his food. And to stop the many battles they would have when it entered. Found my cat trapped by his paw and tail a few times as well when it’s closed. He then kicks off with me as I try to assist him. I’ve stopped using batteries now as it’s a waste of money and I’ve tapped down the latches at the bottom so now it’s just a normal cat flap. Started off good but it’s been far too much hassle. Surely better ones out there than this.
Very useful and effective for the cat’s freedom!
If you have a cottage in a garden, your cat will be free when you are out for a week-end. Please don’t forget the food for i

Needs expensive batteries
I live in a rented house, had to get permission to get a cat. Didn’t want to add a cat flap as it would mean having to replace the door when we left, but leaving the window open just let other cats in. Researched and bought this one. Dad installed it. Worked fine. But a year down the line and I wondered why my cat wasn’t coming in. (Checked batteries regularly – wasn’t that) Watched him try to use it… Green light comes on to say it’s seen him there and registered his chip. Locks do not move. Cat is faceplanting the door and it isn’t opening. Changed batteries – works fine. For about a week. Then again he can’t get in. Phoned customer support this morning. Apparently you need Duracell plus or some other high performance, therefore expensive batteries… And you have to leave it ten minutes after taking the old batteries out before putting the new ones in…

Good cat flap
It’s good, but works too slow, when our cats are getting chased in by the local stray. We therefore have to keep it in unlock mode, which defeats the purpose of it.

It works a treat.
I installed it through a double conservatory wall and you need the additional tunnel parts and ‘flanges’ to fix it to the walls.
Effective
Had a bit of difficulty setting the thing up as my cat was very unsure about its loud clicking when operating. Easy to install otherwise as it replaced a manual version. At least my cat can only get in now and not a very bold stray.
Tough catflap
Great product, with 4 way flap,,great lock device as we keep our cats in at nighttime, easy to fit, very tough, easy to clean.

Great cat flap
The lock/unlock mechanism is really loud. Frightened my 2 cats when first used it other than that it is a great cat flap
Very good quality.
Abdolutely thrilled by this cat flap. Not expensive but great quality. Cat was just so easy to tune in with the help of some treats. Extremely sturdy and big cat from over the road can no longer acccess my house, bully my cat, eat his food and scent mark. It looks great too. Had to get a neighbour to install it as I’m 73 year old disabled lady, but it was very straightforward. I love the way it gives a little click when he’s outside and walks past it….getting ready to let him through..
Maybe one thing I would highlight more, (for folk like me), is why you have to take the batteries out and put back, once it’s installed. We couldn’t understand that instruction, till I asked my neighbour how other cats with a chip couldn’t just use it too. Ahhh, the penny dropped.

It defeats FOXES
every year we get four foxes and every year the four foxes destroy the cat flap. NOT this year and the foxes were proper desperate because all the take aways turned into deliveries and all the street waste dropped. They still try every night like the Aliens trying to get into The Med Lab but so far defences are holding

Keep out stranger cats
Easy to install (especially if you get your son-in-law to do it!) but it did take a few days to get the cat to use it. Treats eventually worked. Best thing is I now know it’s my cat rather than next door’s cat who has eaten the food!

Nice cat flap
Love this cat flap, so does the cat because if he’s being chased by another cat he can dart in knowing no other cat can. This is our 2nd one as we have just moved house.

Works Well
My cat is a touch in the thick side and quite portly. It took him around 2 months to work out how to use the flap and because of his size it’s still a struggle. Initially the issue is the noisy click when the cats chip activates the lock, my cat just used to recoil. Once he got used to that it has been difficult for him to coordinate his limbs to get through, he got stuck in the middle quite a lot but now he’s worked out how to get past that. It was a long road. However the neighbours cat which is lithe and skinny jumps through in one go. I had to have the door cut professionally and the flap fitted. The only annoyance is at night when the mechanism activation click wakes me up because it can go off 3-5 times as my cat is trying to get in.

Easy to install and program for my two cats
This product easily replaced my old cat flap and programming both cats chips took seconds. It didn’t take long for them to get used to the clicking noise and to date no unwanted visitors.

Cat Flap to Freedom…
Very easy to install but does need some basic knowledge and the correct tools otherwise you maybe purchasing a new panel for your door, especially if it’s a Double Glazed doo
Brought to keep the puppy in!!
Hi, we brought this because we had manual cat flap on the inner door and a microchip version on the outer door. Our new puppy, kept escaping through the inner door cat flap and then out of the microchip Petsafe cat flap.
We have now replaced the inner door one, with this microchip version and fitted it in reverse, so that puppy can no longer escape and the cat is fre to go in and out.
Early days, but it looks like the answer. It took only a short time to setup and programming was easy.
The other good thing is that it feels well made, definitely not flimsy.
Great correspondence
Excellent product.
Unfortunately it was was to large for our door.
Returned the item and we received a full refund.
Excellent service.

Good product bought to replace previous old flap, but cat still manages to get both ways when flap set to out only. He taps Perspex and gets his paw underneath, and he’s in!
It works but is noisey
I bought this particular brand of cat flap purely because it was on offer.
Since I had a brown one already (another brand) in a white PVC door, which was being moved elsewhere, it seemed logical to pick the white one so it didn’t stand out as much.
Luckily the hole from the previous flap was only marginally smaller so it was easy to cut it a little bigger for this one.
As we soon found out however, the similarities between the 2 brands are fairly minimal.
The other brand requires my cat to put her head into the tunnel to activate the catches, whereas this one appears to have some sort of radar for whenever she passes within 10 foot of it. That wouldn’t be a problem if A) she didn’t like to sit and look out of it without actually going out & B) it wasn’t the noisiest cat flap on earth.
All night all we can hear from the kitchen is CLUNK, CLICK as she goes anywhere near it or like most cars, takes 10 minutes to decide if she is coming in or not. And this seems to be going on all night. The whole thing is so noisey and I can’t imagine why since the other brand isn’t.
Thankfully I haven’t had the battery drain problem others have reported but I’m wondering if the fact it lights up every time something. Goes anywhere near it is what’s causing the battery issues for most people. I’ve no idea what it’s doing since my leg clearly doesn’t have a microchip (well, unless I’ve been implanted and didn’t know it) so I wouldn’t expect it to light up when I go near it to open the door, but it does. Granted, it doesn’t CLUNK CLICK at me, but it’s doing something if it’s lighting up.
So, as far as microchip cat flaps go it’s working fine. It was quick and easy to set up and so far no issues with its operation.
Just wish there was some way to make it quieter as I’d never realised how indecisive my cat was until we got this as now watching TV or trying to sleep comes with an background soundtrack if the cat is anywhere near it.
I’m not sure if this is normal or if I got a duff one since no one else has really mentioned the noise, but unless you have had previous microchip flaps to compare it too maybe people assume this is normal?
So 4 stars as it’s works fine but losing 1 star for the noise of operation.
A very poor product.
Although this cat flap works to keep neighbourhood cats out, which is why we bought it, the batteries drain within 7 – 10 days. According to the description, batteries should last 6 months to a year. I contacted Petsave who advised me to use top rate batteries. The only difference this made was that I had to pay over 3.50 for 4 batteries which were flat after 10 days. This is the second cat flap we have had. I returned the 1st one after a month because I thought it was faulty but the replacement is exactly the same. I intend to return this one and will replace it with a different make.

East to fi
Tidy looking cat flap and easy to fit.
Due to having one of my cats being a stray and not having a chip, I was looking for a manual one.
Clear settings on actual flap for entry/exit.
Easy to set up microchip recognition.
I loved how easy this was to set up the recognition of my cat microchip. Genius idea!
Well made with great sturdiness.
It works well.
Getting the right cat flap to replace an existing non-locking one is MUCH more difficult than your think! It would probably be easier to install through a wooden door but we don’t have a suitable door so it had to go through the outer double wall of the house.

Great Apart from Instructions
The instructions are not great but online videos solved the problem. Easy to install and its working well and the cat is using it. The click is rather loud but the cat doesn’t seem to mind

Great flap
Great idea with the lock feature, as this saves me loads of money because I am not feeding the stray cats that used to sneak in and steal the food.
Very easy to install on a normal wooden door, special kit for glass is available.
I use rechargable batteries and these seem to last a month. There is a light that turns red when the batteries are getting low.
Fun getting the chip reader and cat aqainted, use treats as a bribe.

Good Cat Flap
We had a problem with a neighbours cat coming in over night so brought this, some reviews say that it allows other cats in but we’ve not had a problem, our 2 are happy enough coming and going and we’ve had no un-invited guests since installing.
Very easy to install and set up.
Simple to install and programme
I thought this would be tough to install and delayed several weeks but in the end it was easy. Now stops my cats food from being stolen and gives them a safe haven from the neighbourhood bullies
5* buy
Very happy! Excellent buy
My cats come and go with ease and it’s so easy to set up with microchip! Also very easy to install
So so
I had to contact the manufacturer as it wouldn’t read my cats chip was told that there was a bad batch gone out and are sending me replacement pa
Easy to install work really well with cats chip
Works really well once your cat gets used to the click action of the lock only thing it does eat batteries I’m going to invest in 2 sets of rechargeable I cams to switch around as they run fla
Easy to set up and install
This product has been very easy to set up and use for all three of my cats and has stopped the other cats trying to get in. Currently having issues as it seems to need to be reprogrammed but I’m sure will be fixed soo
Happy kitties
This was easy to install through our front door.
I have 3 cats and they are using this with ease. Tge unlock/lock sound did scare them to start with. Now they are used yo it.
You can have as many cats as you want to use it just by setting up the cats microchip.
I did have a cat not mine trying to get in the flap but he was unable to as his chip was not registered.
Also because it locks when it is windy the flap doesn’t blow open like others I’ve used in the past.
It is a bit noisy with the mechanism tge clicking of the release system. If the cat doesn’t go in straight away then it relics.
I get through batteries quickly but that could be because I have 3 cats. I have started to use recharge ones now to keep the cost down.

Cat flap
The installer both was very friendly and I’m very pleased with the work and will highly recommend was done in not time at all. Both of my 2 cats used it straight away.
Cat flap
Brilliant, now my two cats can come and go as they please. No more coming home from work to a cat rave with every cat in the village giving it the big one in my house. Brilliant bit of kit, easy to install. Update after a few weeks, omg the battery life is shocking, investing in a rechargeable battery set up.

Chip reader works well
Excellent product, I have four cats and they are able to come and go as they please. I do not know how long the batteries will last though.
Setting the chip reader was very easy, we’ve not had any other cats being able to enter the house.
I needed the flap to work in a cavity wall in the conservatory so it was necessary to purchase several extenders for the wall to create the tube. These were fairly expensive for what they are, a simple piece of plastic.
Drilling through the wall was not that easy and a hammer drill was required. If your good at diy and have the correct tools you’ll be fine to fit it yourself.
I do find the outside part of the flap rather strange as you can see into the end of the tunnel, there is no flap on the outside. The flap you see on the advert goes on the inside. The flap has a large surround it not the smallest on the market but the look is ok.
I would however recommend.

Updated review
I recently purchased and completed a poor review since then I have been in contact with petsafe and the unit was at fault and they replaced it, my battery life has improved so far. Just a note for you , yes it has a loud click, It’s not completely draft proof around the locks, they advise certain batteries, and be aware if installed in pvc doors and panels if you have a thin sheet of metal for security/ strength this could also impact its operation. I’m content now based on its price point and functionality my cat got used to the click and comes and goes and so far no other cats have been in.
