Abit bigger than I realised but it’s really quick to use , great juice and easy to clean too
I also Like the turning spout and 2 settings for more fibre option – I love it
Just hang on to the machine when you turn it on so it doesn’t vibrate off on its own !

Works perfectly. Does what it says on the tin. VERY easy to use. VERY easy to clean and great tasing juice. Just buy it and stop wasting time reading false reviews! When I started looking at juicers there were SO MANY reviews that were conflicting and such a waste of time. I think people have lost the run of themselves and have to find something wrong with everything now-a-days. It took me ages to make a decision because the reviews pointed me in 20 different directions. I finally found a video on YouTube showing this juicer in operation and that convinced me. I have been happy out with this juicer. It works well, is super easy to use, is so easy to clean and makes great juice. What else do you want? Stop reading the negative shite and trust your gut. It’s a good product and was a good buy. Good luck and enjoy your first juice!

Not too much to say, but made a variety of juices using a number of different ingredients.

Washing is fine by hand and machine (the black insert gets a bit dull after a few washes), easy clean up and no sharp instruments.

Worth the price considering the power of the machine.

    Very happy
The closing mechanism is better than the earlier models ( mine broke which is why I got this one)

    Cleaning is a dream

    Juice is lovely

The only negative is that the pulp is still too moist

This is an expensive machine so I
    Would expect drier

That been said – juice is really good

All these machines come highly recommended by Which Magazine, I wanted to buy the top of the range but couldn’t quite make it so I settled for this model. I have to say I have not been disappointed, it works really well, and I’m currently using it to juice an oversupply of home grown Apples which it is managing to do really well the juice being better than anything you can buy. The residue is dry and I’m using it as a fertiliser.

This juicer surpassed my expectations and so I wanted to share the good news with anyone else who has spent hours deliberating on which juicer to buy. I already had a Philips model – but it was 8 years old and had taken a bashing over the years (who knew that you had to remove beetroot skin before juicing? This was news to me – it finally died a few weeks ago). I prepare a juice most days for myself, my partner and our two-year-old. I use mainly veg and a little fruit (maybe one apple per person). The new Avance model gets literally double the amount of juice from vegetables and fruit – so if you are trying to buy organic where possible, this really helps to keep costs down. The pulp is almost dry – it makes a huge difference. I especially like the fact you can set the juicer to ‘extra fibre’ – adding even more goodness to the juice. All of this – and it’s super easy to clean. I would highly recommend this juicer to everyone.

Best juicer I’ve ever used-worth every penny. Was apprehensive of purchasing at first as there were some reviews of it leaking, etc. However, as long as you empty it-there’s no way it can leak, the steel bar around it snaps all the parts in place. The juice itself comes out airy and clean up is a breeze-quick rinse and you’re all done. Going to buy one more for my folks, hopefully they deliver to Canada 🙂

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersOnly the cleaning is annoying BUT that is because I don’t think putting plastic in the dishwasher is a good idea so you end up with a scratched looking effect. Given we juice every day it doesn’t matter much and you can put the metal part in the dishwasher. It makes great veg juice and is powerful so worth the hassle

I’ve tried a few juicers in my time now, and in the end I’ve always given up on them, because they are a faff to clean. I’m not sure there such thing as an ‘easy to clean’ juicer. They just end up sticky and puply and grim. This juicer is simple to operate and easy to feed fruit into, and it gives a great tasty juice as a result, but as other reviewers have pointed out, it’s not so great for non tradtional ‘juice’ fruits, or leafies, so only really suited for those who just want some fresh orange/apple/banana/kiwi etc in their smoothies. Maybe not if you’re about to start a kale and wheatgrass juicing diet (icky!)

Quite easy to operate. However, the sieve section is quite difficult to clean and requires quite intensive attention to ensure its clean. (which is not a ‘problem’ per se) We bought one of these juicers before and had it changed as too much fruit pulp was making its way into the drink when set to minimum pulp.
When juicing apples for example, we still get chunks of peel coming through which we dont think should happen.
I also made a jug full (1.5 litres) of multi-fruit juice which I put in the fridge to chill. The next morning there was a semi-solid layer of fruit particles floating as a lump on the top of the juice. Whilst I expect some density to a fresh juice this seems excessive.

This juicer was recommended to me by someone who know a thing or two about juicing. I am so pleased I took his advise and bought it, really easy to use and clean just need to give a good rinse after use. The Shute is quite big and will take a whole apple. I love my Phillips juicer and would definitely recommend this.

Absolutely superb juicer. At 1200 watts it is a bit of a beast, and deals with any kind of fruit or vegetable with aplomb. I like the ‘fiber boost’ option, which is a lot healthier as you can have a thicker juice with more fiber in it (rather than just the very liquid juice). It juices greens such as kale more efficiently than previous juicers I’ve had. And finally, the cleaning flush is a great idea and makes the whole process of cleaning less onerous. Beause the entire unit lifts off, I can take it straight to the sink to wash it — meaning mess is minimal. It is quite noisy, but in my experience this is par for the course for juicers because they are doing a lot of hard work. It’s certainly not noisier than other juicers I’ve tried; in fact I think it’s quieter.

This is an excellent, high powered juicer and works really well, but … it really is for those who want to juice (or make smoothies) a lot and don’t mind paying a lot of money for fruit/veg (yes, it takes a lot!). It’s also a bit of a beast, and so if you don’t have a kitchen that you can keep this out on the work surface, it’s likely that you could put it away and not use it. It is fairly easy to clean too.

This Philips juicer is fairly big, powerful and noisy, but it does what it does well. The feeding tube is nice and big so fitting, for example, whole apples through it at once is possible and this makes juicing really fast, even for larger, whole fruits which can save a lot of time. Personally I only tend to juice carrots and apples and this blasts through both with absolute ease and the result is good enough on both settings, although even when using the high fibre setting there’s still plenty of waste pulp (I did try making soup with the carrot pulp once but that’s best forgotten). I do tend to burn through the motors of juicers with quite heavy use, but this does come with a 2yr warranty, for what it’s worth.

Cleaning these Philips juicers is now pretty easy. the parts all come apart easily and most rinse quickly without any effort, I can’t see that it’d be possible to make cleaning a juicer any easier than this.

I have tried better, more expensive juicers but this one is pretty decent for an everyday workhorse.

This juicer means business. No doubt about it, with its 1200W motor and heavy duty construction!

Unpacking was easy and the separate parts of the Juicer went together easily – I was ready to juice within minutes (I rinsed everything first).

I started with something basic – oranges, on the ‘low fibre’ setting. The juicer made mincemeat (well OK, juice) of my two large oranges in no time and gave me a glass of a very smooth and pale orange liquid which whilst tasting of oranges also tasted of all the white parts of the peel that hadn’t quite come off during peeling.

Yes, to get anything close to a “fresh squeezed” citrus fruit juice you are advised (by me) not to peel but to cut the fruit into quarters and then cut off the peel and a small amount of the fruit itself with a very sharp knife – that way you’ll get something that tastes more of fruit and less of the pith which can be quite acidic.

I’ve played with the juicer enough to understand that what you’re really getting is not juice but smoothies. Everything you put in is finely diced and then centrifuged to send the liquid out and keep the solids in, and this works very well. Carrots, I could use this just for carrots, one of my favourite healthy drinks but again not quite what you’d be used to if you’ve bought carrot juice in the supermarkets.

There’s recipe book in several languages and Phillips have also produced an app with more recipes (I’ve not looked at this tbh) – you don’t really need it, just your favourite fruits and the odd veg and you’re away.

You’ll spend a lot of money on fruit, mind you. Two large oranges produces one small (150ml) glass of orange.

As for cleaning up, well, there’s bad news and good. The bad news is that the suggested way, of simply running lots of water through it, doesn’t really work and won’t leave the machine clean. The good news is that if you take it apart and rinse it in warm water as soon as you are done with it, this juicer cleans easily.

All in all a fantastic machine, but don’t buy it thinking you’re getting something that will produce fruit juices like those you buy in the supermarket. These are thicker (even on the low fibre setting) but no less enjoyable.

Philips have delivered the good once again when it comes to making a high quality electronic kitchen device. This juicer, in terms of its functionality stands out from the crowd and for a product such as this it is certainly worth investing a little more money in order to make sure the product is able to do what it promises.

Let’s start with a couple of negative points before moving on to describing why this juicer is so impressive. Firstly, the size of the juicer is quite something to behold. You need a big kitchen, or a lot of storage in order to make this a realistic purchase. It looks quite cumbersome and is certainly not something that can be hidden away in the corner of a worktop. Secondly, by its own admission, the juicer is not designed for bananas and some other types of fruit which of course is a drawback.

Now moving onto the positives, what it does do, it does brilliantly. Apples, oranges, kiwis etc are all juiced with ease and create some absolutely delicious juices as a result. Cleaning is also very easy, which is an important feature to consider when purchasing something like this. The juicer is incredibly powerful and rips up fruit impressively, it’s actually quite interesting to watch if you’re that way inclined!

Overall I’ve been impressed with this juicer and would recommend to others, just make sure you have space for it!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve tried a few juicers and they are all limited by the fact they are a faff to clean, no matter how good they are at everything else you find after a short period of owning one you tend not to get it out to use because you have to clear up afterwards. This Philips juicer promises it only takes one minute to clean. Really? It is one of the best for cleaning as it comes apart easily and washes well, but unless you are racing to beat the clock (in the Philips testing labs!) it realistically takes at least 5 minutes to clean and there’s the problem…. One cup of juice, a whole load of mess and 5 minutes to clean up. We’ve had this one for a couple of months, it’s been used twice, my 6 year-old son loves it, but ultimately I don’t think we’ll get enough use out of it to justify the cupboard space it’s using up.

It’s a big unit but it’s hardcore. You can drop large chunks and sometime whole fruit into this thing and it will destroy them, the downside there is that it’s loud! So it’s no nutri bullet but for me it’s better, the fibre control to offer juice or juice with bits is brilliant.

How is it to clean? Well if you do it there and then it’s a doddle, simply detach the unit and run it under the tap.

Price wise it’s expensive, combine this with it’s size and noise and this may put people off, however a 2 year guarantee and Phillips history should back up the “you get what you pay for” mantra.

    Loses one star for price.

This is my third Philips juicer. They have all been great but this is the best yet. It is easy to assemble and disassemble. Easy to clean and produces much more juice than my older versions. It is not too noisy either. It is quite big, but the small versions are pointless as you have to cut everything up. With this, just throw in whole apples and it deals with them fine. It comes with terrible instructions that just have minimal text and some images that make no sense, but the juice reciepe book is ok. In the past I had to purchase spare “blades” from an online store which were easy to come by, so not too worried about spares. The jug has been improved over old models too. Overal a well thought out juicer that does everything it should with ease.

  34. Anonymous says:

I absolutely love this juicer, it just works so well. The amount of juice that is extracted is amazing and the pulp that is left is not far from dry, not even a little amount of juice in it. It also juices the fruit and veg with easy, rips through them all in a matter of second. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars as that how good I think it is. Cleaning is a breeze, I actually didn’t think it would be as quick and easy as was made out, I have found the best was to clean it is to put about 3 pints of warn water through it one at a time whilst its running and the its almost clean after that, then parts just need a quick rinse under the tap to remove any sticky residue. If you want a great juicer I don’t believe you can go wrong with this one.

  35. Jorja6758e says:

Really impressed with this – looks great, and a nice solid build. The motor has been ripping through all the fruit I’ve tried with ease, and my favourite feature is you can control how much fibre gets through into the finished drink. Personally I prefer my juice with bits, so this is a nice upgrade over my previous juicer which tended to filter pretty much everything out. This is a pretty large and serious machine – big enough that you can fit entire apples into the juicing funnel, so if you are only going to use this occasionally you might opt for something that takes up less kitchen space. For anyone else who wants to get regular use out of a juicer, this is highly recommended.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThe size of this beast is both impressive and daunting. However, fitting it all together and getting it to work is all rather intuitive, which is just as well as the ‘instructions’ feature lots of incomprehensible diagrams with ticks and crosses. Really it’s all common sense. Anyway, if you persevere with the leaflet you will eventually find the bit written in English and then discover that you worked it out without the instructions anyway – that’s what intuitive means.

When assembled the juicer is fairly large at 17″ tall and 10″ in diameter, so takes up quite a lot of counter space. You are unlikely to be able to fit it into a cupboard and anyway it is rather heavy for moving around a lot. Best leave it out and use it frequently!

Plucking up the courage to put two fairly large peeled oranges into the ‘feeding tube’ (the rule is – remove any peel that you wouldn’t normally eat!) and switch on, remembering to place the jug by the spout first, I was amazed at the transformation of fruit into pulp and juice – the juice collecting in the jug and the pulp at the bottom of the perspex bowl. I went for the clear juice option first but you can switch over to a thicker ‘fibre max’ option if you prefer.

Having drunk two small glasses of delicious orange juice (about 300ml in total) I thought I would set about the washing up. You can quickly rinse clean the juicer by pouring water into the pusher to create a water fountain to rinse away unwanted leftovers. Then the whole of the top assembly of perspex and seive comes off the juicer as a single assembly – making it very easy to carry to the sink for washing (or to place in the dishwasher) after removing the pulp from the bottom part of the assembly.

Having had a juicer for a number of years I was amazed both at how quiet this Philips Advance is and also how capable is its 1200w motor. In particular it made easy work of hard veg like carrots or beetroot. Now beetroot isn’t my favourite juice even when the earthy taste is covered up with carrot and/or lime juice – but it is supposed to be very good for keeping your blood pressure low, one of the main reasons I use a juicer at all. I might add that there is a Recipe Book included in the pack to give you some interesting ideas from ‘experts’ at the University of Innsbruck, though again I think it is rather spoiled by the multi-lingual approach, but if you are like me you will be happy just stocking up on seasonal fruit and veg and making your own juice cocktails!

I would seriously recommend this juicer for a large family that really loves juicing, and even one that doesn’t will be quickly converted by how powerful the machine is, and how easy it is to clean.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWow this is brilliant. Knocks the socks off any other juicer I have ever used and owned to be frank.

I love centrifugal juicers, I had ones that leaked through the sides, ones that throw veg and fruit about so much so that the cores, skins etc end up missing the area they are supposed to be in.

This has a powerful 1200 motor which to be frank tears through the hardest or softest fruit or veg you throw at it.

Two settings offer you a fibrous delicious juice or a clean clear one the choice is yours.

Price point wise this is comparable to other juicers that offer less powerful motors.

Cleaning is a doddle, my fisher does it for me.

Happy……you bet, and so will you when you take this for a test drive .

We have an older Philips juicer, this newer model is a big step up and well worth the money if you want to have great juice.

The good: as you’d expect from Philips the build quality is top notch. Nothing plasticky at all, it is very solid and you know you are getting an excellent product. In use the juicer seems to extract more of the fruit (as it leaves behind less pulp), our regular “chuck everything in” juices are still excellent and you feel you are getting more goodness.

In use it is noisy but not ear piercing like our Nutribullet. It is doing a lot of work so don’t expect it to be silent.

The big improvement for us is the filter. It is far easier to clean as it is smoother so sponges don’t get caught. This was always something which was a little bit of a shame so it’s great they’ve improved on this.

The bad: nothing bad really. It is a big unit but then with a 1 litre capacity and a fast motor. Don’t let this put you off having it on the worktop as you’ll use it if you can see it.

Overall this is a great juicer. Nice looking (we like the greys), performs very well and makes you have a healthy feeling.

    Highly recommended

It’s simple Phillips Juicers are the best that I have found so far. They are powerful easy to use and you can touch cut fruit in large chunks to feed on there without worrying about blockages . I use mine on a regular basis and they are very easy to use and the cleaning is very simple which can be a real trauma with other products. I have not any issue with any of my Phillips juicers and this one is no different . They may be a little more expensive but it is money well spent to be fair. Great product and great design.

Philips are a market leader and innovators in Juicer Machines.

I have been fortunate to receive and review a few of their machines.

As you would expect from both the Manufacturers name Philips and the price this is a high quality juicer.
The big question for anyone thinking of buying this machine is ‘Is it any good?’

    This is a superb juicer.

The use is really easy, and large pieces of fruit and the like can go into it with hardly any chopping, which makes life easy.

What has allowed me to use this machine more than others is that it is easy to clean between use. Many people that I know don’t bother using juicers that they own because of the difficulties with cleaning — no such problems here!

Philips machines are very well made, and this is no exception. It has the feel of a machine that will last, and it is certainly something that I will continue to use.

It is a large machine, so check that you have the space.

The recipe book has plenty of good ideas, and there are apps and youtube clips that show really neat ideas.

    A great machine

I’ve loved using it, and creating really fresh, wholesome and delicious juices for me and my family.
BUT you do need to clean it carefully, and use the freshest ingredients for the most benefit.
And , have the space to either sit it on the sideboard or store it in the cupboard.

I’ve been juicing for a while now but I have found myself getting increasingly frustrated with my current juicer due the length of time it takes to disassemble it to clean and dry it. This actually takes so long that it puts me off juicing so I was very much looking forward to trying the Philips HR1922/21 Avance Collection Juicer and testing its QuickClean technology.

The first thing that struck me about this juicer is its size, it’s a lot bigger and heavier than my previous juicer and so takes up a lot more room on the worktop. The main reason it’s so heavy is due to its hefty 1200V motor, which is very powerful and, I have to say, amazingly quiet.

One feature I absolutely love about this juicer is the very wide feeder tube, this means the preparation time for fruit and veg is dramatically shortened and I can generally just throw in many different types of whole fruit. Obviously some fruits like oranges and lemons do need peeling first, that’s unavoidable, but it’s so refreshing not having to cut everything up into small chunks first.

In terms of juicing the results are superb, the powerful motor means juicing doesn’t take long and it’s fantastic being able to have extra fibre in with the juice if you wish, allowing me to choose between pure juice or a slightly thicker juice, depending on the type of drink I want.

Cleaning the unit is the easiest I’ve come across of any juicer, Philips call it ‘QuickClean’ technology and it does live up to its name. All the inner surfaces are smooth and curved so there’s nowhere for pulp to gather. There’s also not the separate parts to remove and clean individually, I just give it all a good rinse and dry and that’s it, cleaning really is an effortless task and means juicing is no longer the chore it used to be, so I’m a happy juicer!

I’ve had a few of these Philips juicers & this one is the best one I’ve tried so far. Philips have improved a lot of the features to make it more user-friendly & easier to use.

    Juicing:
Firstly, it has an added feature FibreBoost technology which adds pulp to your juice (extra fibre) which I think is a very useful; making your juices more healthy & nutritious.. It gives a reasonable amount of juice & the pulp is collected neatly in the pulp collector.
*Note: pulp can also be used to make cakes or soups etc!

    Size:
Despite what other reviewers say (perhaps thy haven’t had others to compare?), it is quite compact for a juicer & relatively small.

    Cleaning:
This is a much improved feature in that it’s easy to clean (polished sieve) makes it easy to clean with a sponge plus it has an easy rinse option where you simply pour water into the machine & it’s ready for next juicing session. Plus it’s simpler to asseme/dissemble as there are less parts to clean.

    Other Features:
-non-drip spout (simply ten the spout to stop dripping on kitchen counter, a common problem with juicers)
-large feeding tube (less work of cutting up fruits/vegetables into smaller pieces).
    -powerful & quiet 1200W motor

Please note it seems some people are asking how this machine is juicing KALE!!! not all fruits/veg can be juiced! You need a blender for some & juicer for some!!! You cannot juice oranges , kale, grapes for example & you need a blender for that. &
you cannot blend a beetroot, carrot or apple as they have to be juiced! If unsure, please ask google! 😉

  44. Anonymous says:

The juicer comes apart into 3 sections.
    There’s a centerfuge chopper, there’s a ring/spout section,then there’s the top.

It’s fairly simple to clean. Not as simple as a Bullet where you through the whole cup/blender unit into the dishwasher but it’s not too arduous.
It was 2 main functions …. a pure juice function and another setting for pulp with your juice.
It’s fairly quiet nothing amazing but not outrageously noisy either.
The main advantage of this is the huge feeder spout. You can drop whole apples into here as well as just about anything else.
That’s not something you get with a lot of other juicers where you need to chop fruit and things up first.

    In short :

I have had loads of fun this week end using up apples, oranges, bananas and a veg. I have previously owned a Philips juicer and was very pleased with it although it did cost less than half the price of this one. The main differences between the two are the wider feeding tube which means less chopping, it does not drip so less mess, and it is easier to clean by far. The build is more solid and robust more metal than plastic, my previous one had more plastic than metal. This machine maybe expensive but it is so much better and easier to use making it more likely to be used more and not left in the cupboard.
I have juiced apples, oranges, carrots, broccoli, bananas ,pears and a few strawberries. This is a good way of hiding veg and fruit into a drink and the children can help make and choose their drink. I have got some ideas from the `Carbs and Cals Smoothie book and Jason Vale Juice Master books which I bought with my last juicer.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersA juicer that combines a small footprint on the worktop, quiet operation and maximises the amount of juice extraction to boot. There must be some payback and it is probably in the form of the washing up afterwards (even using the per-clean function).

    Assembly

A quick rinse of the parts and assembly is reasonably straightforward. I had to refer to the manual but it is a logical sequence to follow and everything clicks into place with ease.

    Build

Everything feels well made, thick plastic and quality metal components. It feels as though it will last for years as long as it is looked after.

    Preparation

You need to do some work on the fruit and vegetables that you want to juice, such as removing skin from oranges and pineapple. Larger items will need to be cut if they are to fit into the feeding tube although most apples and oranges can go in whole (skin removed first from the oranges, of course).

    Operation

Relatively quiet for this style of juicer. A steady stream of juice dispenses into the jug whilst pulp/waste is collected in the main body of the juicer.

    Results

This enables a very good level of juice extraction with a minimal amount ending up in with the pulp. The pulp is thus very dry and easy to dispose of with other food waste. The juice is not overly frothy but can be left to settle down or mixed if you like the bits, otherwise the jug helps to remove the froth layer to produce a clear juice.

    Summary

This is an attractive juicer that produces a good level of juice with minimal waste. Washing up is a slight chore but if done soon after juice extraction, it isn’t too bad. You can run a pre-clean by passing water through the lid, which helps reduce some of the chore from the task.

It’s a good size and won’t crowd out a small kitchen. Overall, I like this.

I’m impressed by this well made juicer from Philips. It’s quieter than I was expecting and there is no judder or vibration, yet it’s powerful and juices quickly. I find it very easy to use, and simple to take apart to clean.

This version offers a “FibreBoost” setting, which lets more of the fibre into the juice. It’s a useful addition, and the setting I prefer, though it can be easily turned off if you prefer clearer juice.

The juicer quite big, so needs reasonable worktop space, or cupboard space. I have to move it from underneath my kitchen wall cupboards when I use it.

The instructions are brief, but straightforward and easy to follow. Included is a brief recipe book. This is useful to give you a few ideas when starting off, but I’ve found that most mixings of fruit, perhaps with a couple of carrots chucked inn, produce really tasty, refreshing results.

This juicer is larger and more expensive than many, but it is certainly well made and is adequately powerful. It has a large pulp container that copes well with larger capacities, so is great for families.

If you want freshly squeezed juice, and frankly you cannot beat the taste, then you need a juicer. The Phillips Centrifugal juicer consists of six main components that intuitively fit together without the need for instructions.

You place your chosen vegetables / fruit into the feeding tube in the lid, select the required speed (depending on how smooth you like your juice), place the jug under the spout, lock the arm and a minute or so later you have a jug of delicious fresh tasting juice. It actually takes longer to cut the fruit/vegetables up and remove any hard skin/ stones than it does to make the juice.

The company claim the juicer can be cleaned in one minute. It took me significantly longer than this even though I used the pre-clean function, which involves adding water to the machine and switching it on the higher setting for a brief period. The pre-wash setting does help to reduce cleaning time and is particularly helpful if the juicer is left for a period before washing and some of the remaining fruit and pith dries out on the sieve or lid. All of the parts (excluding the base) are easy to dismantle and can be washed by hand or placed in a dishwasher.

The juicer unit is not small (around the same size as a large saucepan /deep fat fryer) so does require a fair amount of storage space. When the lid/feeding tube is in place it is also quite tall, despite this it does fit comfortably in the space between the work surface and the underside of the wall cupboards.

If you have adequate kitchen space, are willing to allocate time to prepare and make fresh juice and to clean the juicer then the Phillips Centrifugal juicer would be a good choice.

Great quality centrifugal juicer. These are getting easier to clean with every new iteration and producing much less froth/wastage. You’re still better off with a masticating juicer, but this’ll definitely do on a smaller budget.

Be aware that this is quite large – it takes up a fair bit of counter space.

    Quite plasticky in construction.

Very powerful – it really does not struggle with anything you put in. The feeding tube is large and you can get quite wide fruit and vegetables in it with ease.

It is quick. Juice starts coming out very quickly.

Cleaning is a lot easier than the old juicer I had many years ago. Still quite messy but it isn’t the chore it once was.

If you only consume the juice you are missing out on lots of healthy vitamins and minerals which are in the pulp. You really should find a way of consuming the pulp. This unit has a setting that will add soime of the pulp to the juice which is a good idea and does work, although quite a lot of pulp is still wasted.

Instruction manual, like all Philip’s instruction manuals, is rubbish. Really very poor.

This Phillips is up there with the best when it comes to juicers. When I die , my previous juicers will pass before my eyes. I have used these before and they invariably fall quickly into disuse because putting them together and cleaning them becomes more trouble than they are worth.
I can’t see that happening here.
This is a substantial – and heavy – piece of kit. But that is because the Avance HR1922 is jam-packed full of features (no pun intended) and indeed is top of the range of the current Phillips Juicers in production.
This is designed to get you up and running very quickly (no thanks to the instructions by the way) and when you are done it is specifically designed to be quick and easy to clean. That is certainly true. Furthermore it has two speeds – so better control of what you are making , aided also by ‘Fiberboost Technology’ to help you control texture.
The results ? I tried a fruit medley of bananas , strawberries and blueberries and it was absolutely delicious. Creative juices (literally!!) will be flowing as I think up more dynamic options.
This comes with a 2 year guarantee – and I am confident I will still be using it by then.
Only downside – Philips sell this in part based at how quiet it is. Not too convinced about that. You certainly know it is on. But I guess you can’t make an omelette without breaking an egg. I wouldn’t use this to make omelettes though.
    That would be silly.
If you are going to buy a juicer and want to splash out (figuratively and not literally!!) why not go for one of the best?

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersPhilips products are normally very well made and this item is no exception.

This item is very large and I suspect would suit those with a larger kitchen with lots of counter space; yes it could be stored in a cupboard, but my wife felt that she would not like to have to put it away on a regular basis, particularly in a low level cupboard. Setup was very easy after removing from the packaging and the first thing which was very obvious to me was the size of the tube to feed the fruit and veg through (I can feed a whole apple into the tube or several carrots simultaneously) – like the juicer it is huge and already I had the impression that this item would be suited to those who have quite a large family; more evident after putting through a quantity of fruit and vegetables that this juicer converted solid fruit to juice incredibly quickly. The juicer comes with a recipe booklet, but might I suggest that you either examine the internet or even purchase a highly rated fruit juice book (there are some on Amazon) as the increased cost of fruit makes experimenting an expensive pastime, particularly if you are obsessed with using organic produce as my wife is.

So what was it like to use? Easy peasy. Our apple trees have produced a bumper crop this year and I have used this juicer to produce a couple of gallons of apple juice to make apple wine, but more routinely, we juice apples, a couple of sticks of celery and carrot, seasoned with a small amount of sugar and salt to make a very refreshing drink and fast.. One word of caution, producing a large quantity of apple juice, I had to ensure that I allowed time for the motor to cool after 60 seconds or so, but the speed that it produced juice at was incredible all the same. We tend to retain fibre in the juices we drink, however, it is nice to experiment and for the apple juice I produced to make wine with, I set the juice at its highest setting and the juice was relatively clear (bit like Capello) – albeit not as clear as what you buy in cartons from the supermarket.

I have already alluded to the cost to produce juice, well you get what you pay for and whilst our apples are free, some juices have proven a bit costly to make – even carrot juice can be quite expensive if you use organic. I tend to use the vegetable debris to thicken soups and today after making carrot juice, I used the pulp along with an onion, a sweet potato and a stock cube to make soup in our soup maker – am I being a bit miserly? Well to be honest, it does still flavour the soup, it thickens it nicely and it would only be going into the compost were we not to use it. We have also used berries from a frozen berry mix, purchased from one of the two German supermarket chains, which mixed with apples makes a very nice drink.

Cleaning the juicer is easy. Everything apart from the base is dishwasher proof, but you don’t need it. Cleaning this juicer so far has required a rinse off of the fruit debris under the tap, a quick wash in soapy water and allow to drain. Drying is simple and it is reassembled quickly. It is at this point that I have to say that the instructions are not great and whilst diagrammatic flowcharts might be suitable for some, I found it quite confusing – once I learned how to reassemble it though it becomes second nature. Traditionally juicers have been a nightmare to clean, but not in this case.

So do I recommend it? Yes I do, particularly for a family: we tend to use ours more at the weekend as there are more of us at home, plus despite the fact that it reduces fruit and vegetables to juice and pulp extremely quickly and is simple to clean, weekday mornings we don’t always have time, so 3-4 times a week our juicer gets used. I cannot believe how quiet it is, even when under full load with hard fruit and vegetables.

In summary, we have used a number of juicers including a citrus fruit juicer (which the Philips is not so good at) the main drawback is cleaning it and in this instance, it isn’t a problem so it looks like this juicer will be a permanent long-term feature in our kitchen for some time to come.

Quite impressive in terms of function and sheer size. As a juicer, it helps if you’ve used something like this before as the instructions are a little lacking. In use, it’s not that complicated, but it helps to know which parts you can and can’t remove in use, or what & how to clean it etc. It’s also quite a big piece of kit – it’s tall.

You can juice nearly anything that has a decently high water content – bananas, figs & dates and papayas are specific no-nos in the manual as they’re too fibrous, but nearly anything else is fair game. You should also remove any larger pips or stones (cherry-stone sized and up) and any thicker rinds like zests or skins- especially if you don’t like the taste (e.g. pomegranate rind). After that, you simply drop it in the spout, press down with the handling tube, and choose either with or without “juicy bits” as Tropicana puts it, in your juice via the control. When you’re done, you remove the leftover pulp, and rinse it out with fresh water. It’s effective and takes only a few seconds to render down most fruit etc.

I can’t help but feel it’s a little wasteful unless you’re also making use of the leftover pulp (i.e. you could just eat the whole fruit instead), but that’s largely down to you as a choice – certainly, the juice doesn’t get any fresher, and the manual is devoted more to drinks recipes and a companion app than much else about the machine itself. It’s definitely good at what it does if you’re willing to pay for it – and the necessary supply of fruit…..

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our Users|The Philips HR1922/21 Avance Collection is a good juicer.

I can answer that question with one word ‘Yes’.

The machine lets you keep control over your fruit. The large chute lets you feed in fruit with minimum prep. With apples and pears all you need to do is take off the stalks.
With the fibre boost function you can tune the amount of fibre in your juice by 50%.

Believe me you will appreciate this extra fibre to say the least.

The second feature to consider after juice extraction is ‘Is the machine easy to clean?’
A juicer that is complicated to clean, that takes an age, in other words, is a pain to clean is often not worth the time and effort. A litre of juice and then an hour of cleaning makes a machine pointless in my book.

The good news for this machine is that it is fairly easy to clean and for that matter a fairly easy process.

The machine has a quick clean function which is basically a flush through of water so it is remarkably easy to maintain a clean machine. My advice is to clean as soon as you finish.
The easy clean is the best feature for if a juicer is complicated and tiresome to clean after every application what is the point?

The third consideration is the features of the machine.
Rather than having to cut all your fruit up into smaller pieces you can get away with feeding some smaller fruits whole.
Also, the size of the chute means it can take larger chunks again a time saver.

True there is a trade-off between the high power and noise but I like it in my view is the fruit gets the hammering it deserves. (Perhaps it brings the caveman out in me who knows?)
It is a big beast and takes up a lot of space so if you have a tiny kitchen think twice.

The machine is expensive true but is well worth it for the amount of juice you can extract and the ease of cleaning.

    Niggles?

Like many other reviewers, I would recommend going on YouTube to see just how best to use it.

    Pros.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe Philips 1918 Avance Juicer is as large on my counter as my coffee machine. Taking it out of the box and assembling it is done via a cut price Ikea instruction set. Once you power it on; the 1kw motor is also much more noisy than the coffee machine; though quieter than a juicer I had in the past. The controls are simple; there is a switchable on/ off button with two speed levels; this is how they say you can vary the pulp levels.

Its a centrifugal blender; so you don’t need to prep the fruit a lot; if it fits in the slot you can juice it – but you cant juice grasses or nuts if you want to do that you need the Philips Slow Juicer. Though if you are like me you buy partially prepped fruits from the frozen section in the supermarkets as they tend to be cheaper than buying fresh fruit – even than from the supermarket. Slipping in melon or apple the juice is very quick to emerge; passed an array of berries the juice flows; though a bit more pulpy even on the high speed. I haven’t used my old juicer for a while so I cant speak to volumes; its never as much as you imagine so stock up on fruit before you start.

You can put whole fruit like apples and oranges into the chute; and the juice pours quickly out to the included 1L jug. The amount of juice you get is never as much as you would like; so I tend to copy the fruit juice companies and top up with apple and grape juices. Its also good to have some ice around if you like your juices cold.

Once you are done you can put the parts into the dishwasher for easy clean up. Juicing is fun; and you know whats in your glass. The Avance is good for liquid rich fruits and carrots. Its size (and the 1l capacity of the jug) is clearly designed for family or office use. It is easy to clean; and after a few times easy to setup. It does require a healthy footprint on the counter top. If you want to juice grasses and nuts rather than melons, oranges and apples then the masticating juicers will suit you better.

This juicer can manage whole fruit such as apples and pears easily and all the parts are easy to clean and are mostly suitable for the dishwasher. It has two speed settings, a fast one for smooth juice and a slower one that leaves more ‘bits’. All the waste products collect in a chamber which can be easily removed and emptied.

The instructions aren’t great. Once your eyes have adjusted to the tiny print and you’ve managed to find the English section in the booklet there’s no guidance on actually setting the machine up (luckily it’s pretty self explanatory).

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThis juicer is fantastic! It is my third juicer and by FAR the best one I have bought. It is easy to clean, the entire unit lifts off and can be taken to the sink together to be cleaned. It rips through fruit and veg no problem. I absolutely love it! I juice every day and I think this is well up to the job and will last a good few years, unlike previous juicers I have had that were plasticky and naff.

    PROS
    Fast
    Easy to clean
    Simple to use
    Powerful

    CONS
Can’t be used on all fruits
    Large size
    Somewhat noisy

    Logistics
I am not going to lie, this is not a small machine. It requires almost half a kitchen cupboard to itself. It is best to store it assembled I think, but it is pretty tall. Assembling the machine itself was a bit of a puzzle the first couple of times I used it, but you quickly learn what goes where.

    Recipes
The recipe book that comes with the machine is a bit annoying as it has just a handful of recipes, but translated into loads of different languages so you can’t find the English very easily. There is an app you can download which will give you recipes or let you make up your own and give you data on the nutritional benefits of the juices you are making, however I quickly stopped looking at the recipe book and just made up my own juices depending on what I have in the house, and so far I haven’t found a juice that doesn’t taste good (or at least ok!). I have always used the setting that leaves some of the fibre in the juice, but you can have a “bit free” smooth juice if you prefer just by selecting setting 1 instead of setting 2.

    Will it juice?
One thing to note is that you can’t put bananas in it, and fibrous fruits are not recommended but I have found apples, pears, grapes, nectarines and kiwis work really well. Kiwis need peeling or you’d get the little brown hairs in there, nectarines need their stones removing, but apples pears and grapes go in after a quick rinse, stalk and all and no need to remove seeds. You can put citrus fruits in there but you have to peel them and remove the pith or you will make a bitter juice. I have juiced a grapefruit with some other fruits to sweeten it and it worked really well. However if what you are looking for is a machine that will give you freshly squeezed orange juice every morning, this is probably not the juicer you are looking for. However, it is extremely useful for using up that fruit that is slightly past its best in the fruit bowl!

    Cleaning
Cleaning was the biggie for me. If something is fiddly to clean I will stop using it very quickly. The booklet says you can clean it by pouring water through and setting it to 2 – and this is probably fine if you are going to use it again in the next few minutes to make a different juice, but it definitely would not be clean enough to put away like that. But…I have found this machine to be very well designed with cleaning in mind. The surfaces are mostly smooth and rounded with minimal awkward areas or ridges for fruit to become stuck in. After each use I dismantle the machine, scoop the pulp out of the collection tray and rinse each piece under the tap to stop the little bits of fruit sticking them. The metal mesh part requires an additional rub with a dishcloth to remove the tiny fruit pieces. Then I load the whole lot (apart from the motor unit) into the dishwasher. This takes a couple of minutes at most and it always comes out clean. Ok it does take up a fair bit on room in the dishwasher, but it wouldn’t be too laborious to hand wash it if you prefer.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersWhen the top and the bottom parts are assembled, this is a big juicer but it’s surprisingly quiet in use and the cutting element is lethal. You can put anything inside it and it whizzes through it in the blink of an eye, including heavy duty fruits such as apples. It is seriously impressive. It also looks good and is well made for the price point.

It has two settings — one for a more pure juice and the other if you want added fibre which gives a smoothie type texture. However, even on the pure setting you still get a fair bit of fibre. The feeding chute is large and can easily accommodate apples or oranges.

Cleaning is fairly straight forward and the pre-wash feature is useful but the various parts are big and bulky it can be a chore removing all the roughage caught in the sieve.

It arrives with limited instructions and a glossy multilingual recipe book. Using it is not rocket science, but it’s worth remembering a couple of things that Philips don’t tell you: Firstly, always have the plunger ready in hand to use immediately when putting anything inside the chute because without it you may suffer splash-back. Secondly, always have the accompanying jug or a glass sited beneath the tap (with the tap pointing South) because the second you drop anything inside the chute, juice begins to flow out.

There is an accompanying app (search ‘Philips Healthy Drinks’). It features drink recipes, gives the nutritional values of various ingredients and an appallingly bad Shopping List feature (proof that sometimes pen and paper is still the best option). Philips are also trying to tap into the healthy lifestyle way of living with a Fitbit type ‘Challenges’ feature where you can challenge yourself (and friends!) to consume various types of drinks at various times of the day. Whatever…

Overall, I do like this and it will be getting used a lot. You can tailor drinks to your exact requirements and taste but I will not be using it for anything that I can already buy pre-prepared in shops. It’s the same with most juicers but it is surprising how much non-soluble fibre gathers in the reservoir and when coupled with having to clean it afterwards, sometimes for the likes of orange and apple juice it’s a lot quicker, easier and cheaper to just grab a carton off the supermarket shelf.

*I’ve uploaded a photo of it next to a tin of baked beans to give an indication of its size*

Big, powerful and fast but limited instructions and poor app

This is an excellent juicer, heavy duty almost, but that gives it stability and you don’t have to worry too much about accidentally breaking it. If you’re spending this kind of money on a juicer then chances are that you will use it regularly enough to not have to worry about the fairly large footprint it takes up on your kitchen workspace. If you do need to store it away between uses, then it is fairly heavy so I would suggest you keep the box.

Using it is really simple. There is a feeding tube and a plunger, and it involves next to no effort on your part as you guide it down and the machine does the rest. There is one awkward problem, which is that the machine needs to be on whilst you feed the fruit or veg into it. In that moment, before you put the plunger back in again, this can result in bits flying up in the air and getting all over the place. That’s my only negative comment.

Having a setting that gives you more fibre in the juice is welcome, and we’re very pleased with the quality of juice that comes out. As well as everyday juicing, it’s also a great way to make use of food that otherwise might go off before you can eat it all, such as those big bags of carrots that somehow seem to be cheaper than buying a smaller amount individually. It comes with a good collection jug, so there is no juice lost as it comes out of the tap.

And although the various parts of the juicer look like they could be a complicated assembly, they’re actually not and the same goes for the initial perception you might have that this is going to be hard to clean.

Just made a fresh juice with a load of (mostly) discounted fruit and veg (beetroot, apple, lime and ginger) which was absolutely delicious- actually much better then my nearby friendly juice shop rip off merchants.

One of the reasons I would usually have shied away from a juicer as opposed to a Nutribullet type thing is because of the level of fibre they usually remove. This model is supposed to retain a significant amount (up to 50%) of the fibre and so therefore makes a ‘healthier’ juice than the average juicer. The juicer has two settings; ‘low’ fibre and ‘high’ fibre, whichever you use obviously determines the pulp content and the texture of the juice; I ended up using the low fibre setting for my juice (the high fibre setting looked a bit too thick for this type of juice), which gave it a nice creamy consistency, it also tasted great and the colour was amazing! Juicing took about one minute and it runs pretty quiet, with a satisfying whirr.

The other reason I thought I might not have used one is that the level of cleaning I imagined would be necessary after making a juice. I seem to remember a model from the eighties which required a team of kitchen porters to clean and reassemble. Although they state a “one minute clean” on the package (which is probably a bit optimistic without said team of kitchen porters), I took this apart, emptied, cleaned, dried and reassembled in about five minutes first time, which I feel is pretty good for a kitchen gadget. After running some water through in the same manner as you would put fruit through (for a “pre-clean”), everything just neatly came apart and was very easy to just rinse under the tap- although you can also put all the bits in the dishwasher if you like.

Overall, both of my juicer concerns have been addressed so really happy with my new gadget!

One of the best juicers I have used. I have a glut of apples this autumn and rather than try to eat them all (or make dozens of puddings for the freezer) I have been juicing them. This juicer does make short work of them even if they are not chopped up first. I like the fact that the pulp is discharged downwards rather than sideways – my previous juicer very quickly clogged up when the chute to the pulp bin became blocked.

All the key bits of this are dishwasher safe – though they do take up a lot of space – which is a great time saver.

The juicer has a “double” fibre setting if you like your juice a bit thicker. I don’t use this for apples as there is already quite a lot of fibrous “scum” from the juicing. I don’t really want to add to it.

    But overall a fine machine.

  63. Mashable Brand X and Apple says:

This is a serious juicer that laughs in the face of whole fruit. It is surprisingly quiet, which is obviously a big plus – I was expecting something more like a sink garberator – and you can prepare the morning juice without waking your lover.

Every new device has at least one key feature – this one is that you can choose between smooth or bitty juice. Helpfully they point out that you get 50% more fibre with the latter, which is useful encouragement.

Cleaning is the real turn-off with juicers and while it isn’t self-cleaning, obviously, it does a good job of collating of the pulp together for a quick empty and rinse.

The key parts are dishwasher safe, and we have been rinsing under the tap and then washing properly every 5-6 uses.

To be honest I was expecting another kitchen appliance that gets used daily for a week and then never again, but this is standing the test of time and getting us all to be a bit healthier without paying for over-price extravagant juices. Can’t think of any negatives

This is a smart looking juicer, that appears quite complicated until you see the pictorial explanation of how it all fits together and then it becomes quite straightforward. It is quietish in action and works well, with a choice setting for clear juice or 50% more fibre, which is my preference, although having both settings is clearly advantageous should you want a less heavy mixture. There is a recipe booklet with a good variety of healthy sounding juice mixtures using a wide variety of fruits and vegetables that seem, to my mind qiote appealing and worth tyring when I have the ingredients. Cleaning the machine after use (make sure you clean it before initial use) is not difficult and parts can be left to draIn and air dry. Personally, I compost the left-overs, but you could conceivable add them to soups if they are predominantly vegetable based rather that just putting it in the bin. Having made my standard juice of apples, beetroot and carrots, I have to say that even a single glass can give a bit of a sugar rush, so mixing with some water and making a longer drink is no bad idea, and from a few ingredients I had plenty left over to store in the fridge for later. All-in-all, I think that this is a good juicer that is not overly bulky and looks nice, as well as being effective at making juices.

This is a wonderful juicer and the fact that you can add some levels of fibre is helpful- with citrus fruits and mango I preference clear juice only that’s smooth and with carrots and co I like thicker fibrous juice. Very easy to clean and works like a dream. Very good design and straightforward use and clean.

This is such an improvement on my previous phillips juicer !!. The pulp comes through quite dry and I love the extra fibre setting which gives a thicker but smooth juice. You can fit quite a bit through the tube including whole apples ,I found gently tapping the feeder tube pusher rather than pushing straight down works best and its very quick to process into juice . It isnt as loud as my other juicer and takes less time to clean , a quick wipe around the screen and its clean , no scrubbing with a brush to get all the bits out. it’s worth getting a new one just for that.
really like it and don’t have anything I would change to make it better.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI read so many reviews about this juicer. I decided to buy and give it a go. After using it once I am thoroughly delighted with the results. This is without doubt the best juicer I have ever used. It’s quiet which was an unexpected bonus. it’s so easy and quick to clean. There aren’t millions of attachments to dissemble then clean. Everything that needs to be cleaned comes off in one part, so it’s easy to get rid of the waste and clean. The cleaning flush is really good and works- making cleaning the juicer even quicker once disabled. Some of the reviews were negative about the fact that that discarded fibrous waste holder was annoying because it formed part of the integral machine, for me this is a bonus. It’s a brilliant design, designed to stop mess and keep things easy. I have a hungry family of 4 and have juiced for all of them, so far I have not needed to stop and empty the waste compartment mid justice. Also, two speeds, one for thin fiberless and the other for fiber juices. Couldn’t be easier. Super easy, super efficient, quiet, nice to look at. What more could you ask for? Throughly recommend it.

The Philips HR1918/81 Avance Collection Juicer is a modern, stylish and very effective juicer. It makes everything in my kitchen look ancient! The juicer is really well packed in the box – which keeps it safe – but there is loads of card to get rid of once unpacked. The instruction manual is a huge sheet of paper folded umpteen times with really tiny print. There’s a hundred and one languages – none of which made much sense – but the pictures were really helpful in assembling the machine.

In use the juicer is very straightford – simply push the fruit (or vegetables!) down using the supplied plunger. Choose the setting first – setting 2 for juice, and setting 1 for lumpy juice with extra fibre. Switch on and whizz up for a few seconds and the juice goes straight into the supplied jug – ready for pouring into glass.

Cleaning is a cinch. – pour water through the machine – run on setting 2 for a few seconds, and once the water runs clear the top part of the machine can be put in the dishwasher if you wish.

    Things I like
    – Quiet
    – Quick
    – Simple to use
    – Easy to clean
    – Great Juice
    – Excellent recipe book

    Downsides
    – Poor instruction manual

    A highly recommended juice

I love this juicer, pure and simple.
You can get cheaper juicers, but these are hard work and require work from you, and often are limited to citrus fruits. I like apple juice and this is a dream – drop in a couple of apples, press down and the juice pours out with the pulp collected in a neat unit at the base. Citrus fruits require peeling (or the outer skin & pith removed). simple rule of thumb : if you eat the skin then you can throw the whole fruit in, if you peel it, then peel it – the skin won’t be nice! In oranges case the pith is bitter, so remove.
To assemble the juicer is easy and disassembling is equally easy. I recommend cleaning straight away as this is easiest, or at least put to soak. There are two settings which is great – 1 gives much clearer juice with less fibre (my husband hates “bits”) and 2 gives higher fibre – good for you. The collecting jug has a filter to further refine the output. There is simply nothing to beat fresh juice – and experimenting is fun – apples + nectarines + a handful of blueberries this morning – delicious!!There is a spout which twists up to stop drips – very handy!
The juicer is substantial and quite heavy. It feels well designed, and registering on the Philips website I saw that most of the removable parts can be purchased separately (in case something gets dropped!).
    Love it!!

This is a really exceptional juicer. I absolutely love it.

So first of all, and most importantly, it produces great juice. You twist the knob to the left for just juice, and to the right for a certain amount of the pulp and roughage to be included. It makes quick work of cucumber, celery, carrots, apple, pineapple and peaches. I often like to put a little ginger or a sprig of mint in too. It deals with that too. Citrus fruits need to be peeled but after that the results are grand.

But in my experience gadgets like this live or die not only on how good they are at the main task, but on how easy they are to clean. No matter how efficient a juicer is – if its a pain to clean it ends up at the back of a cupboard unused. The design and assembly of this machine makes for extremely easy cleanup. The whole assembly is held in place by pivoting bar that swings over the top to clamp everything down tight. When you take this bar off it releases the internal elements of the machine which are easily rinsed. The solids collect in one particularl donut shaped part and can be tipped out. On top of that easy break-down design, there is a function to give the mechanism a rinse while fully assembled. If you use the rinse function immediately after juicing then you would be good to go again the next day without having to open up for a proper clean. Its brilliant.

The spout where the juice comes out can be rotated around when not in use – so you don’t get any drips. A simple but effective design touch.

It is not exactly silent to run but its not too noisy. The “with pulp” setting seems to be a bit noisier.

This is not a cheap machine but I think it is extremely good value for money. Well made. Juices beautifully. Very easy to clean.

This is a large item so you will firstly need a good of storage space/area for it or a fair amount of space in a cupboard for it. Its an impressive piece of kit with a detailed instruction booklet which we found easy to read and set machine up with. Its pretty straight forward feed the fruit/veg into the tube and go, it works very quickly and literally eats through the fruit in next to no time, which is quicker than the booklet says to leave machine on for! The juice comes through a spout and into the jug which is provided (you have to place under the spout). We had apple juice in no time and its excellent stuff. I was uneasy as to the going for a juicer for a while, but really glad I did. The downside for me was the sheer size of it and having to clean it…..but thats always going to the case when using a machine like this, quite fiddly to clean up! All in all this machine is really excellent, I have not used a juicer before so cannot compare of older or alternative models but I would not hesitate in recommending this item!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a fairly large but very effective juicer which can cope with whole fruit such as apples with ease. The centrifugal grater deals with fruit quickly and effectively, providing juice and separating the pith in an easily emptied section of the machine. It has two speeds, allowing a slower, clearer juice or one with more fibre at the twist of a switch. The motor is very quiet and there is very little noise or vibration even when processing multiple fruits.
Philips have recognised that one of the drawbacks of other juicers is the problem of emptying and cleaning them after use, and claim that you can clean this one in a minute. Well if you dismantle the parts and run them under the tap all but the sealed base/motor unit can certainly be washed clean in a minute, including the grater. All parts but the base can also be put in a dishwasher, though I cannot see why this would be necessary if you rinse/wash them immediately after use.
Overall then, an extremely effective and easy to clean juicer. So why four stars? Because the instructions are terrible! Philips provide a folded guidance sheet in multiple languages, but the information is limited and open to misunderstanding. There are no written instructions on how to assemble the juicer on delivery, only diagrams, which could be misinterpreted. The quick-clean procedure (which is very helpful once you know how to do it) is reduced to one diagram – no words, no explanation! The instructions could and should be better, Philips.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersUntil I tried this machine I would have said that I don’t like juicers. My last juicer – bought about 6 years ago in a supermarket promotion – was a lower priced model that simply wasn’t worth the effort: it was slow, required loads of prep, didn’t really retain any of the fibre from the fruit, made a lot of mess, and was an absolute pig to clean. The (citrus) juicing attachment for my Kenwood chef wasn’t much better. I’d given up on juicers to the point that even with this being offered to me free of charge as a review item, I thought more than twice about trying again.

I’m so glad I did try, because this machine is a completely different proposition from my old, misery-inducing juicer. To start with, this Avance collection juicer is an impressively powerful beast. Apples and pears, picked straight from the tree, rinsed and dropped into the feed channel with no prep other than removing the stalks blitz down in seconds. This centrifugal juicer has a recommended duration of use limit of 60 seconds at a time. This didn’t seem long – until we saw quite how quickly it chomped its way through 5 whole apples. If this was even as long as a second per apple on smallish, slightly under-ripe (thus a bit tough and skin/core heavy) fruit, the hold-up was probably my speed in adding extra fruit to the feed tube and reinserting the presser tube. These results seem to have inspired my partner, dad and brothers. I’d love to believe that they’re aiming for healthy juice combinations. But the increased presence of demijohns, yeast, sugar and valves associated with brewing in my kitchen suggests to me that their intentions are NOT congruent with simple juicing.

Using whole fruit to make juice, even on the ‘clear’ setting the resultant juice always has more fibre to it than supermarket cloudy juice, and so has a thicker texture. Fresh fruit put into this has effectively been rapidly grated and strained at speed raw… rather than cooked and juices drained through a really fine mesh.

The build quality is very good. The machine parts, both plastic and metal, all feel very solid. The collection jug is less robust – but doesn’t need to be really rugged. The removable parts are dishwashable, and the pre-clean function is handy.

For me, the only significant negative to this product is the fairly poor quality of the support documentation. Philips are dealing with multi-language documents. And do so badly. There’s a lovely, glossy booklet entitled “FRESH JUICE with the fibre you like” that comes with this. By and large, it’s not an instruction guide. For the most part, this booklet is a multi-lingual marketing puff piece from Philips, combined with a ‘recipe’ guide. The back couple of pages contain (in symbol form) genuinely useful information regarding usage, parts and maintenance. The actual instruction leaflet ( a cheap, fold out flier) is horrible. Oversized, difficult to navigate thin paper, printed in a tiny font, lacking clear flow and reliant on symbols appearing in a disjointed fashion that fail to give an accurate view of how to use/ clean the machine.

4.5/5 rounded up for the excellent of the machine. Nearly rounded down for the terrible support documentatio
