Phillips Hue works and leads on my home lighting smart set up on Apple Homekit – works really well, great scenes that can be set up and full range of lighting – will be expanding over time for the full house using thread / ,matter in due course.

Not sure how energy efficient this product is yet as it does say using it means it is kept on continuous. As this was my first gadget with my Alexa dot it is good value for money but I would have gone for the wireless hub now getting use to it but only to have less wires.

Great products if in range of WiFi connectivity. If no connection you are unable to control the lights through the App. Ideal if holidaying in UK using own connectivity through phone but no good if abroad outside EU without connectivity.

Ever since I succumbed to purchasing an Echo and Echo dots my next step was lighting. I waited for a good price and got this set. I’m happy with its control and choices of scene set up. Paired with a Alexa Plug to control the floor lamp in the living room overall I’m pleased to have these and will purchase more bulbs when I can.

Nice to be able to control the lights when it at home. And turn them off if forgotten about or late at night when no ones home to make it look like there is.

Recently I purchased the dimmer switch to control one bulb and this helps the kids use the bulb rather than via voice control.

Used in two rooms in the house as lights you can dim, and also using the wake up feature where it slowly fills your room with light as you wake up. Both rooms find it works great, but these lights are not specially designed for the wake up feature. It still works but the only downside is that there is quite a big jump from the light going from 0 to 1% brightness at the start of the wake up cycle. This doesn’t bother either of us, but it may bother you.

This kit includes everything you need to get the lights connected to a WiFi router in your home

The concept is very good but slightly overcomplicated. A simple on-off timer schedule, like Hive, would have been better. The terminology is a bit strange and the logic is not intuitive but when you get used to it it’s fine.
The one complain I have is that the electronics are built into the bulb itself. That makes the bulbs very very expensive and as you cant use any other bulb. I would have preferred to use my own cheaper and brighter bulbs.
Obviously, it’s a deliberate ploy by Philips to make more money. The electronics could easily, perhaps even more easily, incorporated into small removal fitting that fits between the bulb holder and the bulb.

Come we’ll packaged. I’ve been using them a few years now. Convenient for lazy me to turn them on or off. I can switch lights on / off at different times each day ; when I travel
abroad which happens quite frequently. The best part is programming the lights to simulate sunrise in the dark, wet winters! Just the right thing to get me out of bed and ready to start a new day. I’d like to have them a bit brighter but all the same would recommend this buy.

Overall happy with the product and has allowed me to get more lights and switches – lot more features than hive products

I am officially part of the smart network now after years of resistance. I inherited the philips hue system as part of a deal with my first echo dot back in October. Must say I do love the benefits of having this system although at times it can get slightly frustrating with alexa not picking up on my request. I find using the app very beneficial as I can set light brightness and mood prior to taking my little one to bed and to be fair id say an approximate 90 % success rate with voice activation on alexa has big benefits early morning to turn the lights on for little one running about without having to leave the comfort of my bed. I have recently bought the echo plus which has meant I can eliminate the bridge system as its not needed when connected to the zigbee installed in the plus. I must admit this has made a big difference in my opinion. All in all a big fan just wish there was more consistency with voice activation. Then again that could just be my dodgy Geordie accent.

It’s only the second time i buy a Philips after years that I avoided them, and I like a lot the color of the light. I know that in theory there is the color temperature, but that 2700k number doesn’t tell the gauss width or something for which this light is effectively worth.
Note: To install Apple HomeKit and scan the code or the Philips Hue app, I was confused a little because the app require to scan a square code, but the one that worked was a plain BARcode inside the box, with appearance slightly different than expected, I fortunately tried to scan it and it worked. This habit to create an username with email address is a little disappointing but those smart stuff pretend this type of informatio

Works great with Amazon Echo and probably only doesn’t go through properly one every 100 times, although that problem probably isn’t to do with the hub itself. The app is easy to use and has good features but they need to improve their servers so I don’t end up without the smart feature for a few hours. I use these in a bedroom so the dimming feature is perfect for 30% in the evening and about 70% when I need the lights. Fairly bright on 100% and I don’t need it in the room unless I’m cleaning dust.

I bought this mainly for the bridge to upgrade my old bridge that wasn’t Apple HomeKit compatible. The kit was cheaper than ones with bayonet bulbs even after buying some adapters to use the bulbs in bayonet fittings. The bulbs are nice and bright when at full power and can be dimmed.

The initial outlay of the bulbs is quite a bit more than normal bulbs, but they last a long time. None of the hue bulbs I have bought have failed on me even years later.

I would say brand says a lot here and with Philips you can be sure you’re getting a good product.
A lot of companies rip products off and I always try to go with the original or market leader because you do get quality although you pay a bit more but with these lights you will want to pay that extra bit for the quality.

The hub was really easy to setup, you just plug it into your router, the only thing is it has to be wired so you better have a port free.
The connection is reliable and it always works.

The only negative thing and this could be the ECHO DOT but when you tell it to turn off “ROOM” sometimes it gets confused.
    ~TURN OFF “MY ROOM”
~ There is more than one device named “MY ROOM” which one do you mean?
    ~ “MY ROOM”
    ~ OK

Then the light goes off so you have to repeat the name of the room…
I only have two rooms setup with a single light bulb in each room and it gets confused and it did it when I just had the one room so there isn’t multiple rooms with similar names or anything.
It’s not too bad, most of the time it works, it helps if you phrase it a certain way:
    “ALEXA TURN OFF…. …. …. ‘MY ROOM’ ”

You can connect the bridge to the Philips website so you can control the lights when you’re away from home which is good.
Make sure you get the correct bulb set for your lights, bayonet or screw.

I haven’t tried it but Philips say a single hub can control up to 50 lights and there are lots of options.
I don’t have 50 lights in my house even with lamps and everything but you can buy wall lights for cool ambient effects and you can set moods where you get your control device a command and it will turn that setting on.

I just have the white lights but you can get the colour lights if you want something like that.

Practically for me it is handy turning off the lights using voice commands, the light switch is on the opposite side of the room with respect to my bed and my room can be messy so for me I used to turn the light off and navigate to the bed but now I can get into bed and just turn the light off with a voice command.

It’s also nice using brightness commands to dim the lights so If I wake up in the middle of the night I can set all lights to 50% brightness meaning I don’t need to cover my face when I go to the toilet.

It’s only a benefit to get this, you just have to justify the price.

Great device for Controlling the Lights

If you’re reading this review. Scroll up and click buy. You’ll not regret it.

Setup is a 10 minute breeze which is mostly taken up by waiting for the inevitable firmware update that the bulbs will need.

After that you get as much or as little out of these as you put in. I initially used the hue app for timing and scenes though now find that I get the most utility out of using the Apple HomeKit app (multi-user geofencing being the big one that no one else has cracked).

IFTTT continues to grow in its quirky uselessness with my lights all flashing every time I complete a run on Strava or get paid into my Monzo account.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWas sceptical about smart lighting before I purchased Hue. I was interested in how it would benefit my smart house, but wasn’t sure whether smart switches were the way forward.

I’m glad I did get Hue. Combined with Echo’s placed throughout the house, control is easy. Motion sensors in key areas are even easier. Smart schedules work like a charm.

The bulbs won’t save a huge amount of energy when in use because I already had energy saving bulbs, plus they sap a small amount of electricity in order to stay connected, even when off. However it is the convenience which is worth the cost.

Slowly, the house has been hue’d. Now the bonus lights, TV backlighting, side lights etc are expected to be done!

Would recommend to anyone. Set up is easy, voice control, app control, motion control works every time.

Let me be honest, these bulbs once they work are absolutely brilliant but it took me a while to get them working as I had to reset all four bulbs that I had bought before they would work.
    That’s the bad stuff.
    Now onto the positives.
Once installed using the echo plus 2nd gen with built in hub is pretty clever as you can ask alexa to turn lights on and off and you can also brighten and dim the bulbs to your recommendation, I also have a routine set for the morning which turns on the upstairs light the dining room light and my hall light and I even have the lamp in my living room turn on and my kettle turn on all at the same time.
So after a bit of patience installing these on the alexa app and getting everything working they are well worth the money I paid for them and do not disappoint my only wish is that I should have opted for the colour change bulbs.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI bought this product to start a Hue system. I really wanted 2 bayonet bulbs, but for some silly reason Philips do not offer this. It is rare to see E27 bulbs in UK, yet this is what they sell as a starter kit. I realised that I was paying just a couple of pound s extra for the bulbs over buying the hub separately, so ordered a couple of E27 to bayonet adaptors. I shouldn’t need to do this. I also bought some further bayonet connector bulbs.
The bulbs work very well. I did have one gripe that of someone turned off a light at the switch, when it went back on they would go the the default brightness. This has now been changed in the app in the latest revision, so that it remembers the setting. Good to see that Philips are looking at customer feedback.
Hue is a good product all around.

Pricey but they work. I’m hoping that the bulbs will last a decent length of time – so long as they do, then it will be worth the price.
Very easy to set up and to use. We’ve got ours set to come on when we go away based on custom routines to mimic someone being in the house and it works really well, giving us a bit more peace of mind. As we only wanted it for security – and to make our lights dimmable and controllable from an app we didn’t bother with the coloured bulbs which helps keep the price reasonable.

Issues? Occasionally you have to have a couple of goes to operate a light manually through the app but other than that, it all works perfectly.

Great lights and the app works great. Easy to set up from the app. The only problem I have is with amazon Echo and the spot, when all lights have been found it works great with the echo and dot, but the next day Alexa tells me there are more than one bedroom or kitchen, how this can be when I only have one kitchen and bedroom with the phillips lights in… This is a conman problem with the echo and spot and probably all amazon devices.. To be honest you don’t need either of them as the app does it all anyway. Well with the money and highly recommended

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI love Hive, it’s a great concept and for the most part works pretty well. When it doesn’t, the customer service team are fantastic. I have the Hive thermostat and a couple of bulbs, and wanted to add a few more bulbs. I knew that Hue worked with Hive but needed the bridge, nevertheless the Hue bulbs were both cheaper and had better reviews. Given that I wasn’t too far down the line with Hive lighting, I opted to switch and pleased I did.

The Hue bulbs don’t really do anything more than Hive, it’s just that they do it all better. Both bulbs will dim, Hive in 5% increments, Hue in 1% increments. The Hue app is much better, looks slicker and doesn’t look like its made by a child unlike Hives. And there is generally more ability to control rooms, and individual bulbs, as Hive only allows single bulb control.

Definitely recommend Hue over Hive for the lighting, and depending on how far you’ve got it’s worth the switch

The Philips hue package is a great smart bulb solution. Really easy to set up and work.

The only barrier I can see is that if you don’t carry your phone on you all the time, it could be a bit of a pain when entering rooms. Yes, you can buy switches, but they are quite ugly. We have 3 different bulbs in the kitchen, (under counter lights, main light, dining table lights). If we want these to turn on separately, we need to either buy 3 switches, or use our phone. You can buy the round scene adaptable switch, however each command changes the last. So you can have one on or the other, but not turn two on at once. I can see this being a bit irritating.

    Otherwise, a very good setup.

Love this system! Easy to install and use. Alexa and Siri work well with it even though we had to tweak the zone names slightly for Alexa and also had to introduce some Routines to make it work more efficiently but that’s an issue with Alexa and not the Hue system. I’m using these for our hallway and bed side lights, which is great as you can dim them to prepare for bed time. Also love the automation on the Hue app so that the lights come on when you get close to home or have the bed side lamps come on gradually in the morning. This means that you don’t need a separate wake-up lamp but can use these instead, especially in the winter.
Also got a great price on Amazon as it was bundled with an Echo Dot during sale time and was therefore on par with the Ikea system (or even a bit cheaper) but Hue can do so much more than the Ikea system especially when you want to expand and add other things as well.

Golden Review Award: 83 From Our UsersI have Alexa and wondered, “What do I do every day, that requires very little effort that I no longer want to do”. The answer? Turning my lights on and off.

My laziness had increased 200% now I have the Phillips Hue bulbs. I can either control them from my phone, assuming I can be bothered to lift my arm, or scream at Alexa to turn the lights on.

The system itself is very clever. You can control seperate lights in different rooms, or control individual lights on one room. I have three bulbs in 1 room and can turn them all on or off independently of each other. I can even have them at different brightness to each other. You can do this level of control from the app or Alexa.

Using the app you are able to set routines such as ‘wake up’ or ‘go to bed’. These either gradually increase or lower the brightness, depending on what you are doing (waking or sleeping). You are able to set timers and have them flash after 10 mins. And you can use them like conventional schedule timers. Setting them to come on when you are away. You can even have then turn on randomly between certain hours to simulate someone being at home.

The light switch they are connected too must always be on, and you turn them off via the app. The bulbs must be connected to the hub which is connected to the internet. If there is a power cut, when the power comes back on, as the switch is on the bulbs will turn on. This can be annoying at night time as the 100% brightness is very bright. But how often are there power cuts?

I absolutely love the system. I was worried how often I would use it, but it’s become a daily activity, turning lights on before I get into rooms, or rushing upstairs light off when I forgot to. Simply fantastic

    Best purchase ever!!

Our Home wasn’t so smart, but now it is thanks to this lighting kit. Easy to set up and use via the Home or Hue apps. Will definitely be adding more over the coming weeks and months.

Great piece of kit! This is my first smart home item and I couldn’t be happier with it. Since buying this I’ve bought 4 more bulbs. Adding the extra bulbs to the arrangement in the room took a bit of googling but was certainly not too difficult.

Can be controlled with Alexa, Siri and the Hue app. Cannot comment on other virtual assistants as I don’t use any others.

Getting into bed and turning the lights off with a quick command is great.

Love these. I got to go with my Echo dots and I did t realise how much is use them. Great to not wake my daughter up when the clunky pull cord light in the classroom is located under her room.

Also saves getting up off the sofa to switch lamp on.

Can’t wait to buy more. Price per bulb is all keeping me buying loads!

Works perfectly from a well known company that you can trust.

Phillips Hue is not cheap. It’s not practical if you’re on a budget. But if you have it you’ll love it. Really great to be able to dim your lights without noisy dimming switches. LEDs also last for ever.

Given this has the base and 2 lights it’s a great way to get into the Hue system. Couple this with some colour lights and you’re on your way to vibe city.

These are excellent. Have now got them all over the house. Brilliant for lighting up your home if your out late at night and can also set them to come on automatically in the mornings. Would highly recommend.
