You only get what you pay for and although not the cheapest iron in the market this is worth every penny. Lightweight yet powerful it takes ironing to a new level.

The best iron I’ve ever used. Was looking for a specific Phillips iron that has now been discontinued and this is the most similar one I can find and is perfect. Super powerful steam, really easy to use, makes getting through the ironing quick, absolutely love it! 100% recommend.

Makes down a point because the iron handle feels very cheap and that it could break easily

This is now the second Philips perfect care iron we have had, the first has only just packed up after a number of years daily use, so easy to use no worries about setting temperatures, no burning of clothes!
The best iron in my opinion.

I was a little worried about the automatic temperature control but was reassured by other users that it worked. Having now tried it I am very impressed and find it gives good finish and adjusts en to the most delicate of fabrics.

First thing to say that this is the most attractive iron I have ever owned. It’s also the lightest steam iron I have ever used. Once I’d worked out the difference between all the different modes that are available it is a simple iron to use and steam generation is exceptional. Not to mention unusually quiet. I used it for a wide range of clothes from wool, though cotton to man made textiles and it works perfectly for all. Refilling with water is super quick and easy. I didn’t experience any leaks during my time using it which in my experience is unusual for a high pressure steam iron. As with all steam irons it is important to descale on a regular basis especially as I am in a hard water area. Only niggle, as ever with these steam generators, is that the water tank could do with being a little larger. That being said, all in all a very good product.

There’s real thought gone into this item, and it has loads of virtues and many good features to praise. The self-adjusting temperature gauges is a little nerve-wracking to get used to, but really makes a difference and works effectively. The item takes descaling really seriously and does so thoroughly and easily. The handset connects simply to the water reservoir, the hotplate is powerful and heats up quickly-beware! I didn’t get any of the rogue steam function that some other reviewers found, but I perhaps need to update this review when I have used it a little more. In essence, this takes a lot of the labour out of the basic household chore and takes a big step forward in terms of design and use of this kind of item. I will definitely read other reviews while you make up your mind.

So here we have the Phillips Pro Steam Generator Iron,it’s a serious piece of kit, accompanied by a big price tag.It does offer good performance though and makes ironing relatively easy.Allowing you to iron the creases out of garments with relative ease. One of the major plus’s with this iron is that you do not need to modify any settings when you move on to ironing clothing made out of different materials, the steam iron automatically detects the change in material.Furthermore, you can leave this iron on your ironing board without placing it on the iron plate, without the risk of burning you clothing/board.Therefore,this is an additional, welcome safety feature.
On the downside this iron is quite a big beast, when you include the steam tank-so fairly heavy and has a chunky power lead, the steam iron also sometimes leaks a little when ironing and is also quite expensive.

Can I lay my cards on the table? And you might want to sit down too.
    OK?
This is the first time I have ever used an iron! All ironing previously has been done by my wife or my daughters, but before you start they never did plastering, plumbing, double digging and the like.
The apparent complexity and arcane nature of ironing has deterred me too.
It’s all a lie, it’s easy – fill tank switch on, pull trigger and off you go.
In no time it’s done – effortlessly to boot.
Wonderful machine – no settings, light, glides – done.
    Well worth the money.

This iron/steamer works great, just like the previous iteration – the GC7619/20 – did. Just like the earlier model, the sensors do the trick at optimizing the temperature for the fabric in question, but Philips has slimmed down the steamer/iron itself and reduced its weight which is a big improvement. They’ve also beefed up the water canister while keeping it easy to fill. In all, Philips has addressed the few drawbacks I found in the previous model while maintaining all that was best and most successful about it. They’ve made this a truly excellent product.

This iron is very easy and light to use. I get good results with minimal effort – which as I hare ironing is a huge plus for me! Theres no faffing about with temperature control, it has one setting and adjusts itself automatically. The water reservoir holds a lot of water so no re-filling halfway through. Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because it does take up a lot of room on my board and is quite heavy to move around, although the actual iron is very lightweight and easy. If you have somewhere you can leave the iron set up for use though, this won’t be a problem – sadly I do have to store mine somewhere so this is a disadvantage as its not small! Other that though, I love it so far and have never ironed so much! Takes me hardly any time now as so easy.

This is the best steam iron i have ever used.

It builds on the “new thinking” that instead of having a particularly hot iron, you have a fixed moderate heat and make up for that with lots of steam.

I’ve used phillips and Tefal versions of this technology on standard ordinary irons, which work very well, except that they keep need refilling with water because of the amount of steam they generate. Having a steam generator version with a large tank solves this problem.

It takes a few minutes to come up to operating temperature, guided by different lights coming on. the iron itself is very light and with a glazed surface that moves over clothes very easily. the mains lead is not very long, neither is the lead from the tank to the iron, so you need to keep the reservoir on the ironing board, and may need an extension lead from the mains.

There is an eco setting, which i have taken to using which works very well. a very minor gripe is that it has no memory for this setting so you have to put it on each time you use the iron – but it’s only pushing one button!

It shuts down automatically when not used for a while – which has already proved useful several times in our chaotic household.

It is expensive and needs to have a long life to justify its cost. i am nervous about this: i bought an expensive bosch steam generator a few years ago: the original developed “ulcers” on the plate of the iron and became unusable, a replacement died suddenly after a few months from some electrical fault and the final replacement as a “goodwill” gesture by bosch developed the same decay in the steam plate after only 1 year. moral: don’t buy bosch – i hope this one lasts better.

I can’t quite go the full 5 stars on this – as I haven’t quite got over my last Philips Steam generator iron giving up the ghost a few days outside the warranty period. That said so far I am very impressed with it. The steam output at 135g is good enough for most although there is a slightly more powerful version available for an extra 50 quid. You do get a steam burst at 420g which will sort out most situations. The big improvement on this model is the larger water tank. The main downside is the decalc which seems to need you to let the iron completly cool down before you can use it again. I suppose this does dicourage you to do it when it is still hot – but it can leave you without an iron when you need one.

Philips irons with the (OptimalTEMP) feature, only heat the sole plate to the lower setting – and you use steam to iron – so you dont burn synthetics. When I first got one I thought it had some sort of clever tech which could sense what sort of fabris was being ironed – but it is much simpler than that. It just runs at a cooler temp. I would like to think that saves electricity as well – but I suspect the steam generation more than makes up for that.

Overall this is a good iron. If you are considerintg buying a steam generator for the first time, I would say do it (so long as you have the space to store it – they are not small). You will wonder why you waster some many hours with an ordinary iron.

The performance of this iron is amazing. It is light and glides across fabric.

It is also very powerful with the steam without leaving damp marks on clothes.

When ironing shirts which are not usually easy to iron, I’ve been very impressed with the results. It removes all creases out of my clothes quickly and with the minimum of fuss.

It’s easy to use, there’s no need to change the settings. It also has a massive detachable water tank so you only need to fill it once before tackling a basket of ironing!

It’s a real pleasure to use.

Although this steam generator iron has the word ‘silence’ emblazoned across its tank, it is anything but – the steaming sounded like a ‘giant mutant robot cat’. Saying that, it *is* a good iron – the handle and sole plate unit are nicely weighted so that any ironing session over thirty minutes doesn’t feel too taxing on the upper body. It is easy to fill with water and heats up relatively quickly. I tested it on a number of fabrics – heavy cotton; non-stretch denim; polyester mix school trousers and basic cotton. The unit performed fairly well on all of the different garments.

I feel as though I have been spoilt by using a much more expensive Philips steam generator iron recently, but for the price point, this is a good iron. It merely loses a star because of its rather excessive noise.

For this product, Fleetwood Mac ought to retitle the classic “Rumours” song to “You Make Ironing Fun”. An experience of this beauty will lead you to cast away your blackened electric iron which has stuck to your shirts for the past decade and embrace the world of steam. The Philips GC9405/80 Perfect Care Aqua Pro Steam Generator is an aesthetically pleasing modern appliance but its USP is to be found in its efficiency and the resulting outcomes. Even the most stubborn items of clothes are ironed with one swift press. Kettles of water and filling up are a thing of the past. It heats up quickly and is very light to use. Most of all it steams beautifully.

The horrors of ironing and that big pile of clothes in the basket no longer seem such a trial of Sisyphus. Certainly, as with the Greek myth, the Philips will help you reach the top of the ironing mountain only for it to reappear in a short time. But it does give you more time on your hands, is far less frustrating than an “ordinary iron” and when the board is placed in front of the table with a good DVD binge set to focus your imagination the world is almost bearable.

If she could my wife would give this 10/5, she says it is quite simply the best iron she’s ever used, and she’s done a lot of ironing. We share the ironing and so I have tested it too. I was doubtful that an iron really could iron any fabric without a temperature dial to adjust the heat and so I went straight from a pair of denim jeans to a flimsy part of ladies knickers and it ironed the latter with no hint of sticking or burning. I also tested it on a pair of novelty socks that have previously stuck to soleplates and it coped perfectly.
The iron itself is attractive to look at and the handle is light and ergonomic. This iron is not designed to be stood on its end which takes a bit if getting used to but it sits very securely on top of the generator. It has a very large tank that apparently lasts for four hours of ironing (eek) but it does need to be emptied after use so don’t go mad filling it up.
The iron locks onto the top of the steam generator for carrying and it also makes it easier to empty safely. Other nice touches include a velcro strap affixed to the power cable to you can secure to tidily and a groove around the base of the water tank into which you can feed the steam pipe to store it safely.
I can highly recommend this particular mobile at this stage.

This is the second Philips steam generator, with perfect temperature function, that I have had. The first was impressive for its ability to iron all fabrics with the same ability as a conventional iron with temperature adjustments, but never quite had the same awesome output as the best hot-plate steam generators. It also didn’t;t manage too well with calc-ing, occasionally guttering out a wad of chalk onto whatever I was ironing. This, however, is in a different league. It not only looks good (alright, champagne is actually gold, which is a little bit y’know, classless) but has great ergonomics, with a really lightweight iron, a lovely secure locking mechanism that allows for easy carrying, and a nicely pointed and easy gliding base plate. In use it is simply awesome. The pump is noisy when in use, but the steam venting (operated by a simple grip under the handle) is almost silent, and copious. It really does handle switching form linen to synthetic without pause or adjustment, and blasts through multilayered fabrics with ease (double cuffs on cotton shirts can be ironed from one side only, for example). It saves lots of time and frustration, and is well worth it.

As a fan of the steam generated iron and having tested a number of irons over the years, this Philips Aqua Pro Steam Generator Iron has a large number of positives when compared to the Tefal Pro Express Total that I am currently using. However, it is not all good news and I do miss some of the features of my Tefal which I would have expected to have seen in an iron of this price.
    Pros
    * The whole unit is surprisingly light and much lighter than my current iron
    * Amazingly compact for the quantity of water it can store
    * Absolutely loved the glide handle and lightweight iron
    * Can store 2.5 litres of water as compared to the 1.8 litres that my Tefal holds
    * Heated up in exactly two minutes — far faster than my Tefal
    * Innovative feature where no change in heat setting is required: the iron reaches optimal temperature for each piece of clothing and guarantees no burns. This is time-saving and efficient
    * The champagne colour is attractive
    * Lock system is simple, unobtrusive and effective
    * Quieter to use than the Tefal

    Cons
    * Pricey (278.57 via Amazon as of October 2017)
    * I was surprised by the rather cheap hinged plastic cover which covers the small opening in which water must be poured. Tefal, by contrast, have cleverly designed their iron so that the whole water unit can be easily removed which makes filling up by tap or ionised water a simple, non-messy process and moreover, it can also be done whilst in the middle of ironing without the iron having to cool down. Similarly, when emptying the iron for storing.
    * There is no auto rewind electrical cord to conceal the cord after use: instead there is a loose cable and a plug which makes storing untidy
    * I found the management of storing the steam conduit from iron to base unit quite unwieldy. Again Tefal’s iron provides for easy storage through the base unit, making storage non problematical
    * The anti-calc feature to the side of the iron is rather small and not as effective as the one provided by Tefal. This means that this appliance needs decalcifying more frequently which, when you just wish to iron a few items, is wasteful in terms of time management.

This steam generator iron is not only stylish with its muted champagne finish but highly effective. It’s quick because it’s super light, very powerful steam action and adapts temperature to the textile rather than by a manual dial. It pretty much runs silent apart from the odd reheating to generate steam which is a few seconds noisy burst making it easy to watch telly or listen to music whilst ironing and the decalc function runs every 10 hours which is useful for hard water areas, but maybe a pain if you’re not expecting it.

I hated ironing with a passion, so much that as much as possible I don’t buy things that require ironing, however I have a husband whose work requires shirts so after struggling a few times with a cheap iron I told him he was a big boy and could do it himself. 10 years down the line he has a very good regular iron but I was tempted to try this after hearing ‘I wish I’d bought one ages ago!’ And ‘ I simply whizz through the ironing now!’ From others with steam generators.
And yes I have changed my opinion on ironing, this iron makes things so quick (so incredibly quick I mean wave it about and squeeze the steam release a couple of times and it’s done) I went through the pile (not just a tester shirt a pile!) of washing of different fabrics and sizes and shapes without stopping, as you don’t need to stop and twiddle the dial to achieve this!
This feature was especially useful in my dad’s work issued shirts that have cotton/linen yoke, collar and sleeves and a neoprene body that I didn’t have to twiddle whilst doing a single item just iron away!

This is ideal for big families especially of school aged children and those who work in a professional/office setting to run through shirts like a hot knife through butter, equally it would be a good investment for someone who takes in ironing for others to gain some time back- not only the lioness and reduces twiddling interruptions it will run for about 3.5 hours on a full tank meaning it reduces the times you have to stop and add water.
Will I start ironing now? most likely as this is so easy compared to the other style but I won’t go as far as my mother in law ironing flannels and undies. Is it worth it? If you have a lot of ironing or difficult ironing to do on a daily/weekly basis and can afford it then YES!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIf previous ironing has been with a conventional hot-plate iron, then this iron is a revelation and makes ironing (almost?) enjoyable. The iron itself simply glides across all fabrics and takes out the most stubborn of creases with the help of the steam trigger; thus reducing ironing time significantly. It is extremely lightweight and simple to use as there is no need to change temperature settings for different clothing garments. The 2.5 litre water tank, the easy DE-CALC, the ECO setting, vertical ironing; all added bonuses too. Although the iron is quite bulky the long hose (see photo) means there is no need to have it on the board taking up space and it has a button which locks in the iron whenever it needs to be picked up.
The champagne colour (see photos) is aesthetically attractive combining form with function. Overall, a great iron with many benefits.

A great iron in both functional and aesthetic terms.

This is in the middle of Philips range of steam generator irons. Having also tried their top-end GC9324/20 model, I’m happy to report that this mid-range model has many of the same features as the GC9324/20, such as the excellent ceramic sole-plate, light-weight iron portion, and ample steam production.

On paper, this iron doesn’t produce quite the same flow or pressure of steam as the GC9324/20, but I didn’t find this to be much of a problem in ordinary, domestic use. The other main difference is that this model has a fixed water tank, whereas some others (including the GC9324/20) have a removable tank. The removable tank is a bit easier to take to the sink for emptying afterwards, but it doesn’t hold as much (1.8 litres vs 2.5 litres), so there are pros and cons to both.

Comparing this with a traditional stand-alone iron, the power of the steam is amazing, making much lighter work (literally) of getting creases out of all sorts of clothes. The thermostatically controller sole-plate runs cooler than on a traditional iron (because the steam does most of the work), making it suitable for wool and silk without any adjustment. This saves a bit of time, and should avoid burnt clothes if you get distracted!

It’s obviously a bit bulkier than a traditional iron, and the tendency of the iron portion to swing around if you rest it down on the board is a bit alarming at first, but these are more than made up for by the time and effort saved in getting those creases ironed out.

These days, my husband does most of the ironing, and he loves this iron – he said it makes ironing fun!

The thing I noticed is that it’s much quieter somehow than comparable steam-generating irons. I have no idea how they do that, but it’s not at the exoense of the quality of the ironing.

The other thing is that the iron hand piece itself is really light and low-profile. It’s definitely the lightest iron in use I’ve ever tried (combined with the base it’s obviously a bit heavier, but while you’re actually ironing it is very very light.)

It has good long cables, bath from the base to the power outlet and from the base to the ironing.

And it makes ironing about 50% faster than my previous steam iron (which I actually liked a lot, but it was just a normal steam iron rather than one of these “steam-generating”) types.

The vertical steam function is very effective, and at least as good as dedicated clothes steamers in my experience.

The only negative thing I could say about it is the size – but that sort of comes with the territory with steam-generating irons.

Love this iron. Have been using steam generator irons for sometime now and really would not like to use any other. This ones has all the advantages I have come to expect e.g. 2 minute start, easy decals auto switch off,There is a 2,5 water tank which always is more than adequate for an average family wash. The iron is held in position by a lock and is sleek and lightweight. The soleplate glides over the clothes. The optimum temp technology means no need for controls as same heat will iron different textures. I love this and have tried denim, cotton, polyester, wool and various mixes with no problem at all. I find too that I can rest iron on cover without risk of burning. This is useful for me as I am quite short and do have to stretch to put iron on rest. I find I can speed through my ironing in no time There is a storage compartment for storing steam hose. The iron will store comfortably in a standard single kitchen unit shelf. I love i

I’ve yet to meet a real fan of ironing, and our household is no exception, so anything that eases the burden will get sure praise from us.

The Philips GC941/60 is a sleek looking thing with a generous 2.5L tank (more than enough for us) and a lightweight iron. The two elements lock together for ease of carrying and storage, and the main steam hose is long enough, as is the power lead. Once plugged in, it is ready for action in 2 minutes.

The one thing you need to get used to is that there are no temperature settings, it has something called OptimalTEMP technology which must somehow sense what you are ironing … a little sceptical at first, we went from crispy dry jeans to a silk blouse and back with no problem what-so-ever. You can even rest the iron sole down on your clothes and it won’t burn … not something we tested, and according to the manual it will turn itself off after 3 minutes if you do that.

De-calc is easy, taking no more than a minute, but you need to do this very frequently … every 10 hours, which for a soft water area like ours is a bit much … it seems to work on a timer that resets every time you do it … for us, and as we prefer to store empty, we do this every time.

One thing to note is that this iron generates a lot of steam … and would suggest using it in a ventilated area or you may get problems with condensation. We also have a mesh ironing board with a special cover for the steam to penetrate, making ironing a wee bit quicker … I think an older more solid construction board would get quite wet.

We really do like this Philips Steam Generator iron, the only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is the price.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis was an expensive purchase and for this kind of money I wanted something that was a bit more than my previous steam generator Iron had. I would say the temperature control (so it doesn’t burn anything) is definitely that. I even had my older son using it as he couldn’t possibly leave scorch marks behind!

I have nasty back problems, unlike my other steam generator iron, this one is very light to use and move around the fabric, so I hardly use my back muscles at all. There’s no need to press firmly, the iron just lightly slides around fabric.

It does still remove creases though, although with things like Linen, it is better to iron them slightly damp. However it copes with thick cotton Tshirts, jeans etc with no problems. I often do need to iron both sides of anything but very light fabrics.

The descalor can be a bit irritating because you can’t use the iron until the rod has been removed, emptied and replaced (then you have to turn the iron off and on again to get it working again. Not good if you are ironing school uniform in a rush in the morning! But I didn’t want the expense of having to buy descaling rods as in other brands, so I will put up with this.

Overall, its what I wanted and am delighted by the decrease in back pain when ironing (I did get a good ironing board as well, which also helps).

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersDefinitely gives a good result on even the most creased clothing!

    Pro’s:
    – Very quick at getting all creases out of clothes (I mainly use it on work shirts)
    – Has a massive tank for water so only need to fill it once!
    – Easy to move the unit around as the iron locks in place on to the base and the cord tucks away.
    – just plug and use – no need to change settings or descale with cartridges
    – long plug and ironing cord.
    – looks really smart.

    Con’s
    – very powerful on the steam so the ironing board gets wet, need to get a new iron board cover.
    – a different way of ironing to basic steam irons, you need to get used to gliding the iron over time rather than rush it over the clothes. Once you learn that its easy to get the best results.

Overall I think its a well made product and I noticed a real sharpness on my shirts, I need to invest in a new ironing board to make the unit sit well on it as it is quite big, and the steam comes through a lot. Also I forgot to keep pressing the trigger on the iron itself, it doesn’t heat up like an iron as it pushes the steam out to take the creases out the cloths – no press of the trigger no steam!
