Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersIt’s a pipe wrench. so it’s not light weight. This wrench was purchased because someone misplaced the old one in the tool box after working on something and after this wrench arrived the other wrench magically appeared! This is now our heavy second spare backup pipe wrench for those jobs like tightening pipes under the sink and it works fine. This thing is heavy duty and will likely be passed down to the next generation. Thanks for reading my review and have a good day!

Half the price from other brands( ridgid or Milwaukee)
    Strong and size as mentionned.
The teeth are somewhat not great tho. I may file them a bit so the adjustment becomes smoother.
I don’t use it much but it’s really handy when you need this type of wrench for an awkward position.
Didnt want to spend full price for this reason so I’m pretty happy with it.

These are adequate for light industrial use. They are light and grip well without slipping, not ridgid quality but not ridgid price either. Expect to last for many many years.

Quality is ok but not close to a ridged pipe wrench but good for occasional use
    Light weight aluminum
    Teeth are decent
Only using on 1/2 and 3/4″ pipe so far so not tested on large pipe

I was having trouble loosening a 55mm nut on a Mira 88 shower. I tried a 9inch Footprint wrench but that didn’t work. I put WD40 on and Hot water from a kettle. Still no go. But this set of 18 inch Stilsons did the trick in 2 minutes. Really impressed. Allowed me to service my Mira 88 shower and replace the internal set.

So fare these pipe wrenches are preforming very well and I am considering buying the next few bigger wrenches to complete my work needs in the heavy duty mechanics trade.

I utilize wrenches daily to perform my trade. This wrench is manufactured to the same specifications and quality as other named brand’s that cost three fold of what I purchased these wrenches for. Sure bet investment for tradesmen and do-it-yourselfer!

It is good to have pipe wrench for your home. This particular wrench is lighter, but still has some heft. Worked well for me and my needs (I had several shower and sink pipes that I needed to remove/replace in my home, and that had become stuck because of corrosion).

Generally excellent and got the job done. For anyone having problems (I’ve read lots of reviews with comments like “does not grip!!”), you must first of all know how to use one of these correctly!! Google “How do you use a pipe wrench?” or “How do you use a Stillson?” to find out. Turning in the correct direction is crucial – there is a direction of turning which tightens the grip further as you turn. Crucial for my job, which was removing a stuck bush from a tap. Perhaps a bit pricey, but otherwise great (….if you know what you are doing!)

I bought these wrenches with no real expectations. I am a pipefitter/plumber and needed them for work. I have always used the Ridgid pipe wrenches but I didn’t want to pay the price. I have used the 18″ almost everyday for over 2 weeks and I find them very good. They grip nicely, no slipping and they release when you go to tighten a fitting. Very lightweight and easy to adjust. There is a lifetime warranty on these wrenches. I highly recommend trying them out for yourself.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWhen I took this wrench out of the box, I was surprised and even agog at it’s massiveness. It is a formidable tool, all threaded and stuff. Wasn’t sure my lady hands could handle wielding it around pipes. Yet it is lightweight and not cumbersome, so it did a fine, fine job loosing up my 50 year old plumbing. Like butter.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’m a fitter at a big engineering site.
These are my go to pair of pipe wrenches!
They are so light weight and extremely grippy.
We have used them with a scaffold pole to undo some very stubborn bolts that would normally would be cut out. Watched them Bow a little bit no damage what so ever. All 22 bolts with rusted 50mm nuts undone.

Can’t grumble at all for the money. And if they do break I’m going to definitely order another set?

I work in the plumbing field and as such i use and own quite a few professional grade pipe wrenches including ones worth well over 200 dollars each. This maxpower one is not designed to be given professional work but is more than adequate for homeowner use with a decent set of hardened jaws, a smooth adjustment and a nice quality aluminum handle.

The 45 degree is great for the tight spaces up against a wall or close to the ground where you just cant get the leverage with a traditional. I wouldnt use a cheater bar(extension pipe) on the end of this aluminum handle but with an 18 inch handle it should do almost anything up to 2 inch steel(hope its not too rusted or with old horse hair putty).

Overall i recommend these wrenches to handymen, homeowners or maybe a first wrench to an apprentice. They should last a homeowner or handyman a lifetime… Apprentice a year or two.

DIYer hubby says that projects are much easier to do when you have the right tool for the right job. Though he has several pipe wrenches, different styles (straight and angled) and different lengths, the 18in angle one was missing from his inventory of tons of tools and gadgets. He like the weight to this pipe wrench even though the handle is made of aluminum which one would think it would make it much lighter but still has a good deal of heft to it. The jaws are listed as CR-MO which stands for Chromium-molybdenum steel, forged for excellent strength and tenacity. Black phosphating on the surface of jaws helps against rust and corrosion. Has a full floating forged hook jaw and a non-slip nut thread to adjust the jaw opening easily. However sometimes the slip-nut would catch more than he would like when turning it. He likes the angle head since it makes it easier to place jaws in some tighter places. The torque was usually sufficient for what he needed it for. Husband uses pipe wrenches not only in pluming projects but sometimes when he works on machinery as well.

I chose the 18″ wrench and it seems pretty good, if not excellent for the money. Usually, a wrench of this size is much more costly but generally made of iron or steel, whereas this is mostly aluminium and the reason they could keep the cost down. It’s not going to be as strong as iron but the advantage is it’s much less heavy. The simple but clever mechanism in the jaws makes it grip tighter the more you turn, so it’s won’t let go of whatever you’re screwing or unscrewing. I got it for removing oil filters from a particular car and it does a darn good job of that. But it’s going to be handy when I come to replace the water heater in the basement!

  37. Anonymous says:

This wrench is surprisingly light considering the size mostly due to the aluminum handle. Thejab is very loose and the tightening mechanism is somewhat rough. This wrench works well for very rough jobs with large gripping area. THe long handle provides lots of toque and the sharp jaw teeth allow for a good amount of grip.

    I’m impressed!

For being so lightweight they are solidly built.

I was able to unscrew two rusted together pipes that were left in our yard and were too long to throw away together. I got two of these wrenches and they gripped strong enough to break the pipes free!

Not weighing a ton is nice too, you’re not having to lug around so much weight to each job.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWe got the 10inch version which is good enough for regular DIY household jobs like installing a bidet, fixing a washer, replacing the shower head, stopping the door, acting as Mario, scaring the wife…

It comes nicely packed with plumbing smell eeking out as soon as you hold it into your hand.

Every home should have a PAIR of wrenches. Yup, a pair, because many plumbing jobs require one wrench to hold a nut while other to loosen the second one. So, going by that, this single one will cost you more compared with other options that can get you 4 for $40 in different sizes.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt didn’t work for what I bought it for, but that’s because of the bolt I was trying to break free (and ultimately had to cut with a sawz-all). The wrench itself is well made, but lightweight, much lighter than similar wrenches I have worked with in the past. I foresee having more uses for this wrench in the future, and I have no doubt that it will perform as well as any other wrench of this type.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersAn unethical plumber undid the piping fixtures under my sink then told me I would have a leak going forward because he couldn’t get the exact configuration back, so if I wanted the leak to stop, he would have to redo the entire fixture and that also meant cutting a hole in my floor. Wow! It really was leaking from his attempts at getting more money out of me for a “no problem there” reason, but there was no bad configuration. So after I chased him out of my house, I put a bucket under the newly leaking pipe (hadn’t leaked for the 3 years I’d been here) and went onto Amazon. This tool was all I needed for a simple tightening maneuver and the leak vanished. And I found an ethical plumber who fixed my stopped up sink by snaking from the outside wihout having to cut a hole in my floor. This wrench is staying in front of my tool box, though. It’s handy and as a woman, I was glad to have a tool that wasn’t so heavy I couldn’t lift it to get under the sink. It is very manageable.
