I knew this game as the original Japanese title Kiki Kaikai, it was one of my favourite SNES games. You can play as 1-2 players as Pocky & Rocky. It’s a scroller shooter game, it’s fun to go around the shrines shooting up the enemies.

It’s a fun and challenging game. But lacks online multiplayer.

Wonderful remake of an obscure but classic Co-op game. Co-op is locked in the beginning unlike in the original but can be easily unlock by doing directional prompts (look it up on Google)

This is the first time i’ve played a Pocky and Rocky …
    It’s a scrolling shooter.

Firstly i have to join what many say and that is to say this is a beautiful looking game.

Mode wise you just start with story – theres a free play mode and 2 player – but these need to be unlocked.

There is also an easy mode and again this needs to be unlocked.

Super strange choice from the devs as this is a tough game!
(At least for a noob like me.)

The mechanics need getting used to and game overs come quickly – now i get conflicted here, i don’t like to do more than a few continues, it’s that Arcade mentality of trying to get better in me.

You’d think that would be perfect for this style of game – but to do well, i think you need to play a bit too conservatively to do well and to keep playing the same levels over and over does get a bit thin.

I find this game to be Contra tough in terms of what is needed to do well.

If your okay with that, theres a really good game here.

If your not willing to put the time in, i think this game will soon be lost in the shuffle of what your playing.

Of course if your a fan of previous games or can play 2 player, i think you’ll be well away with enjoyment from this title.

As a new comer, i’d have liked a few more modes/options out of the box.

Also, i wish there was a directional firing lock button!

    I’d personally give this game a …

    6.5/10

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLike all the other tengo project remakes / remasters, this game is absolutely brilliant.
You can tell its the original devs behind it and you can also tell that the end result is a clear vision of what the original Pocky and Rocky would’ve been had the resources been there at its original release.

Looks fantastic, especially on switch handheld. While a lot of pixel-based graphics can look largely generic and forgettable (due to it being a friendly medium for indie game development) this isnt the case with reshrined. Protagonists, weapons and enemies all have a cohesive and appealing cute artstyle absolutely packed to the rim with character (though I think the newly added cutscene sprites are a bit bland).

Hard as nails, but short and sweet, it encourages multiple replays until you memorise item and enemy spawns, though it is generous with lives and continues so it hasn’t opted for the original SNES level of difficulty, its only 7 stages and one final boss stage, so I imagine if you got really good you could beat the game in under 30 minutes.

The only way you might be disappointed is if you wanted something closer to the original. In all honesty with the amount of content and changes made to this remake (I wouldn’t even call it a remaster) make it more of a new entry than anything.

Absolutely worth the price, doesn’t reinvent the wheel but is a solid game through and through.
