Cuts through firewood easily and my 3 inch diameter logs. Brilliant for jobs where my chainsaw is too cumbersome. Highly recommended.
I’ve gone through one or two reciprocating saws before going for this Bosch which really looks up to the task. I originally got one to trim the edges off rotten tongue and groove on a shed. It has been used to cut shed and fence panels down to a size suitable for a car boot and as a substitute for a chain saw. It’s just great.
bought to cut some branches and fence panels. Just the job. Recommended.
Great for cutting up thick branches for the firepit. Very easy to use
I bought this to replace an old reciprocal saw and wanyed to avoid the heavier pro tools. This is light and very powerful. The eliptical strike makes cutting easy and requires no effort. I cut up 10 pallets with ease and was able to reclaim a lot of the wood for future use as well as creating firewood.
Great bit of kit. Poomed down tree branches like a beast.
I’ve not owned an electric saw before so it is hard to give a comparison review. I found the saw easy to set up and I’ve used it to cut railway sleepers and make lap joints so far. I have no complaints. It was a lot easier than using a hand saw. It does take a bit of getting used to but hold the saw firmly and it cuts straight.
The additional blades one purchases are not as long as the original which comes with the tool.
product used to cut down conifers and process branches
and it didn’t miss a beat
easy to use
Box arrived with seal broken and prior usage was clearly visible (not what I would call ‘new’).
However product unmarked and in working order.
3 year warranty is good.
Saws seasoned logs, with ease.
Does as it says on the tin, so to say. Works very well and does the job I want. Cuts fence posts (4×4) easily, decking boards and tree branches with no or little effort at all.
Works like a champ! Made clearing the garden so much easie
Brilliant .. I’m Now A Lumberjack… Brought For The Purpose Of Cutting Branches Off A Tree.. FAB.. & Will Use Again Once Grown Next Year…
Easy To Use But Mind Those Fingers… !! The Saw Itself Can Be & Get Quite Heavy When Up A Ladder & Over Stretching (Oops)….
Great Result & The Mrs Did The Clearing Up… Even Greater Result .. Happy Days..
Good handy tool to keep around really good for taking apart pallets
I bought this to cut down a wooden fence that I had stated to cut with a saw, it was night and day, I cut the fence down in a quarter of the time it would gave taken me. I also used it to cut the roots of a hedge.
After struggling to decide on which saw to get I decided to go for a Bosch and I’m certainly not disappointed, only downside is no case
Heavy machine but the new quick blade release is excelle
My husband said it was easy to use and did a fantastic job.
Get one! Get one! Get one! Get one! Fantastic bit of kit, love it to bits. Cuts things where you want them cut.
I expected to receive a new saw but when opened it was clear it had been used with dirt marks, sawdust and the cable was not wound properly and the box was torn in places. Very unhappy.
Am still suspicious about the box.To be fair to Amazon, the customer service was excellent. But I accept that maybe the. Jc was badly packaged athe factory maybe. Who know.
As for the product itself, and this is why I changed my mind and gave it 5 stars, it is an absolute beast. It cut through logs and branches like a knife through butter. Cut through 6 inch diameter tree trunks. Great bit of kit, feels slightly dangerous using it.

Great product that has made my gardening alot easier in the efficiency and speed of cutting branches.Easy to use for man or woman. So please I bought it and have it.
Very easy to handle, allowing you to cut with no stress. Nice piece of equipment.
Great item, does exactly what it supposed to do, pretty accurate, easy to use and very versatile with quick easy to change blades.
Would recommend ****
Great product, very easy to use, can be a little daunting at first but just wear the recommended protection. Ive used it to cut down fence posts, large branches of a tree and some basic DIY. really very happy!
Made light work of cutting up an old shed. I’m pleased I bought it. I went for a mains powered saw this time, as the cordless ones are great until the charger breaks.
Arrived in good time and well packaged. Good quality but quite heavy and does a great job on tough tasks. Pity there’s no carry case with it.
Brilliant piece of kit.
Cut through thick tree branches with ease.
Light and versatile
.
Very handy little saw, I can see it getting a lot of use. Really pleased I got this and I would definitely recommend this.
Wish I got one years ago.
Great reciprocating saw, very good a cutting through wood, went through my railway sleepers very quickly
This is the second Bosch PSA 700 E sabre saw I have purchased. I first one I bought in 2014 was subject to a lot of heavy use and even abuse sawing through tree roots. Despite all the abuse it received it still worked fine, although the blade eventually kept falling out after 6 years service, so I decided to buy another rather than have it repaired. These saws really are bulletproof!
My only complaint was with Amazon who sent me a saw manufactured in November 2016 and was over 3 years 3 months old, in a green box now superseded. Perhaps this was reflected in the price, although I should have been told before purchasing. I hope this won’t affect the 2 year warranty.
I would have liked to purchase a plastic box for this saw, but after contacting Bosch was told that non was available.
Also, I tried registering for the extended warranty with Bosch, but there are so many obstacles to overcome, I gave up in the end.

Took top third off a long hedge very easily. Pretty powerful. Low plastic packaging. Good value
This is a well made tool. Helps very much with garden maintenance And rough woodwork.
It’s a bit loud if being used to escape from a prison cell.
Good value and good quality. I used this for chopping limbs off trees and cutting up chunks of fire wood that were probably bigger than the saw was designed for. This was no problem for this saw.
Only negative was the blade continues for a few seconds after use which is a safety oversight in my opinion. Blade should stop immediately like on a chainsaw.
Very handy tool with rough tooth blade in ideal palat / log buster for log burner highly recommend
Solid, reliable and tough – cuts even tough stumps with minimal effort.
It is fairly heavy and people with weak arm strength may struggle.
Excellent product. I saved loads of time and energy dismantling wooden pallets with this.
This has a proper gearbox, beware of cheap ones with ABS gearboxes, they don’t last. Always trusted this model.
I had some branches to trim. The saw did exactly want I wanted and was easy to use and very efficient.
Great saw for cutting small to medium sizes trees. Comes with good blade. I would recommend buying a longer blade for the bigger sized trees. As always, great service from Amazon.
Early days but have used it several times with great results. Very useful for difficult to get to branches, saves straining with a bow saw. Any branches that would have to be cut up to fit the wheelie bin are easily dealt with. Wish I had bought one years ago. Supplied blade will tackle branches 3- 4″ thick with ease but I have purchased some longer blades for future use. Well made item, easy to handle. Only downside is that it does not come with a carry case.
Nothing to dislike, love this tool. Iv managed to almost empty my large garden of shrubs and taken branches off trees with no difficulty whatsoever. If I’m not careful the back fence will be going soo
The best 50 I have ever spent. The saw is easy to use and made easy work of 6ins conifers. Follow the safety advice which comes with it, and you will have a brilliant tool.
Very good piece of kit. No problem with using it at all. Just like a normal cross cut saw. No carry case is a let down though. Stingy Bosch.
This is a very easy to use saw and one that will meet all the jobs that need to be done. Made light work of a garden swing.
Loved the product, great little tool. However, the 3 stars are for safety reasons. There is no start stop button so to speak. Were you to pick it up and accidentally pull the trigger you could lose your fingers or your hand. In saying that, it did exactly what I wanted, got rid of some quite big stumps in my front garden . I would recommend it but please take care with it. Brianx
Bought this to remove some fairly thick branches on trees in the garden – and was not disappointed. The saw easily cut through everything I needed to cut back – probably up to about a 6-8 inch diameter although would probably have managed much thicker if I’d needed to.
The only slight downside was the weight – it’s a solid piece of kit and weighs a fair amount. May be an issue for some people if they’ve got a lot that needs doing in one go. The only other thing was the length of the cable – it’s really quite short and if your doing anything outside you’re going to need an extension cable. Having said that, they are both only minor issues and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality reciprocating saw.
I have been using the Bosch PSA700E to cut hard wood soft woods and its doing a very good job.
i am very happy with it. you can burn all the wood you have and save on trips to the tips.
then when you are burning wood you can weed your garden and burn them at the same time.
as you can see with the pitchers its spot on.
This product has worked well for what I intended which was mainly cutting down small trees and bushes in an over grown garden. Have also used it to cut up fence panels and a metal green house frame, it has gone through all of it like butter!
The only downsides firstly there is no safety mechanism on the trigger so be carful how you pick it up. It also only ships in a cardboard box rather than a plastic storage case.
ext time I’d go for a more powerfull model. nice quality though.
I got this for a very good price and being Bosch you know it’s good, It has less power than some other
reciprocating saws only 700 watts but it has done everything I asked of it. I got some other blades
for a very good price and they work brilliant with this sabre saw.
10x Combo pack for wood cutting
4 x R1021L (240mm) 5 teeth per inch
6 x R644D (150mm) 6 teeth per inch
Cost me 10 and they are as good as the one that it came with.
Powerful, easy to use with an array of blades that can cut wood or steel in awkward places and can be used at height to cut down high hedges or branches. Replaced my 30 year old 600 watt model as an upgrade that is still working.
Great tool and versatile. I cut up a full shed to take to the local tip, cut back all my conifer trees and cut down a thick steel washing line pole. The proved wood blade was brilliant at cutting the thick wood up. Just be careful when it gets to the last bit of the cut as the vibration can cause the saw to bounce a little because of the vibration. Blade changes take seconds and are tool free.
Like others I purchased this to replace my Black and Decker scorpion saw, much better product and easy to use and change blades.
Originally bought to help my Dad with projects; he’s of an age where too much sawing is not good for his back. It made short work of cutting joists for a shed project, and reduced a large pile of wood into fire-ready logs in about half an hour. Saved about 2 hours of sawing and a very sore arm.
It’s a little bit loud, but it only lasts 30 seconds as you can saw through things so quickly.
Can be lifted by the handle in one hand but really needs controlling in 2.
Haven’t tried with any of the different types of saw attachments, the one in the box works fine for timber.
Would be nice to have a safety switch on it though – it can be quite easy to touch the trigger when picking it up.
Bought this to trim a tree as well some other job. Works/cuts perfectly. Looks small but can do bigger jobs than u might think. I cut fairly thick branches without a problem at all
I needed this because I had a lot of waste wood to cut up and burn in my chiminea which I was not strong enough to saw up manually. It’s a little bit on the heavy side, but that turns out to be to the good as very little effort is needed, and it’sbeen going through everything like butter.
I’m 75 and am delighted with it. some saplings are next!
I used the saw to cut the roots of a stubborn tree root. The saw worked perfectly well, cutting roots up to three inches in diameter. It also made light work of substantial branches of trees in other areas of the garden. It is a solidly made tool and I would definitely recommend it.
Excellent piece of kit, purchased to trim 100mm posts from my new deck. Did the job effortlessly.
Bought this on the basis of other reviews. A really good quality tool, works great, very pleased with this purchase. Have cut several large logs.
Great tool, clear instructions, has a substantial weight but a noticeable reduction in vibration in comparison with other brands battery models previously uses.
Used to delimb and fell a laylandii hedge. It was the best tool for the job… Day of labour saving compared to hand tool and much safer and more versatile than an equivalent chainsaw.
A great choice with piece on mind of Bosch reliability and standard warranty on registering on Bosch website
This tool did the job perfectly. Branches of thickness 3 – 4 inches was no problem and the blade went through like hot knife on butter. Do not try to cut branches of diameter larger than the blade or else the blade will get stuck and bend with machine kicking back. I cut around 30-40 branches in one go and no problems. Satisfied and recommended.
I bought this saw to trim some trees and bushes in the garden. I bought some blades for the purpose and set to work. It made short work of small branches even up to 4 inches, 10 cm thick. I was even able to remove a couple of unwanted trees close to the ground that were 6 inches, 15 cm thick by working around the trunks. Fantastic saw for the garden, not tried it on building timber. I have no doubt it will do the job though with the right blade.
Cuts through wood very well. However, the blade doesn’t stop very quickly when you take your finger off of the trigger. Use a bit of sense and you’ll be fine though.
very pleased , powerful , easy to handle . lead is sometimes a pain but i would rather have maximum power all the time rather than go cordless and have to stop every 20 mins to recharge .
This works really well. The first thing I cut up was a wooden pallet, which felt like I was slicing polystyrene. Makes easy work of what would have been much harder jobs with a manual saw.
Downside is that it only comes with one blade which are expensive to replace.
On the upside, i used it to cut down 8 200mm railway sleepers for my garden and it happily went cut all of them with no issue and the blades still sharp.
Would easily cut down small trees and branches etc and has a nice long lead to enable movement.
Held off writing a review until I had used this product a few times. Not disappointed. Spent the weekend cuttng/pruning bushes and trees in the garden. Easily cut through everything I tackled including 5-6 inch diameter trunks. Bit of vibration towards the end of a couple of cuts but nothing outrageous. No hesitation recommending
Cuts through hard, seasoned, life like butter. Easy to use, including changing blades. Wish I’d bought one years ago. As with all Bosch tools, the building quality is superb and at a much lower price than the likes of Makita. Only gripe is that it didn’t come with a case, whereas my other Bosch tools have really good cases.
Cut through 1 inch railings NOT like butter but not with too much difficulty. Used with drilling oil which helped. Can wait to use it to prune my huge apple tree in the autumn and trim the top off my 3×3 fence posts
A great piece of equipment for the money. It comes with one wood and one metal blade, so possibly worth ordering spare blades at the same time. I wish it had a case to put it in, so hoping the box lasts well. Possibly a little heavy for some, but definitely not heavy for a recip saw and will do the jobs I need it for effortlessly.
Used this for a demolition job of a rotten summer house, handled it with ease. Only small gripe I’d have is that the trigger is very easy to activate when you’re handling the saw (out with cutting)
We bought this saw to cut down some very large conifer trees but using longer blades – Saxton 240mm Reciprocating Sabre Saw Wood blades. We have done the first tree remarkably easily with this tool, my husband began with the side branches which the saw dealt with in seconds with little effort, then the main trunk was done in two sections, the first was 56 cm (22 inches) in circumference and with the larger blade the saw went through with one pass again with little effort. The base of the trunk was 66 cm (26 inches) in circumference and my husband worked his way around and into the centre until it had cut through completely, this took a little longer and some lining up of the cuts but the saw made light work of it non the less. This saw is heavy in comparrison to others we have had but my husband really rates the power of it for the money.
Wow Fantastic saw, used it all day sawing 6 inc diameter trees and bushes, saves a lot of hard work buy the longer blades worth every penny, would highly recommend but wear safety gear, one mishap could do a lot damage to ones body
Came next day via Amazon Prime and was well packaged.
I bought this with the intention of cutting a lot of logs and wood for my wood burner. I’ve used a Bow Saw for years but I have a large amount of wood that has built up and I don’t fancy standing for hours on end cutting manually and a chainsaw is frankly a bit overkill and potentially dangerous for the light home use I need.
As such I was interested if this would fill the gap between manual sawing and full on chainsaw. I bought it along with the Bosch Saber Blades which are aimed at cutting logs etc. The saw also comes with a wood blade in the box but it’s a smaller 6″ blade for small jobs to get you started. Some people gave 1 star and said it didn’t come with a blade, but I had no problem noticing a blade packaged next to the saw so not sure about those reviews.
The saw feels pretty robust, I was going to go for a B&D Scorpion, but always felt that Bosch were a better quality and also some reviews of the Scorpion said it was very underpowered, so I went for this even at the higher price and so far am glad I did.
Fitting the saw blades couldn’t be easier. Flick the lever upwards on the mounting bracket and it allows the blade to be inserted in easily. Then release the spring loaded lever and the blade is held firmly in place. No screws to break or damage which is a nice design.
I started off with some smaller branches, around 3″ in diameter and the saw cut through them with no issues. I then moved onto the bigger logs around 10″ in diameter and was impressed it handled it no problem. I think it will easily handle even bigger logs and will be moving onto those later, but so far am really pleased with the performance.
Some have said these are underpowered or need too much pressure etc, but I think it’s missing the point. These aren’t for world record wood cutting attempts. If you need to cut a lot of wood quickly with heavy duty tools, then maybe consider a chain saw.
These saws work well if you (as the old saying goes) let the tool do the work. I found pressing on too hard caused a lot of vibration to be sent through my hands and also caused poor cutting. A light touch and being patient with the saw will see it smoothly cut through big logs with ease. It might not be as quick as some might like, but it certainly beats sweating away with a bowsaw in my opinion.
I cant comment on it’s use with metal etc but I have bought a multipack of blades which includes metal blades and demolitions blades etc and I can’t see why this would be an issue. The saw is powerful enough for general use but give it time and don’t be tempted to try to rush by pushing hard on the blade.
Overall I’m really pleased with this purchase. The saw is a nice size and weight, decent power and works extremely well for cutting logs that to be honest I thought might be too big for it.

Some years ago I bought a Black and Decker Scorpion saw. It was useless , so I was reluctant to buy another.
When I bought my new house 17 years ago I seriously overplanted my garden. Ten trees and forty shrubs and conifers which are now enormous. I am now in my sixties and finding it hard work. I decided it was time to take some out ,roots and all. I bought some sabre blades which are excellent. The saw is quite heavy but the weight is essential for the cutting. Cutting through thick weeping willow branches like a knife through butter, a nine inch trunk no problem. The roots would have been impossible with a hand saw but so easy with this. Three large trees and 6 conifers gone in three hours and just two blades( the only reason the blades were damaged was the fact I inevitably hit stones whilst cutting the roots). Great piece of kit. Highly recommended
A very powerful tool. Has helped me a lot in cutting back trees and bushes. Rather heavy and needs two hands to operate safely.
A word of caution!!! This multi-saw does not have a brake or clutch to stop the blade movement when you stop cutting.
Also there isn’t a safety switch to engage before switching on the saw. Therefore, when you pick up the machine you easily press the on/off switch
which is quite dangerous. Just be aware, I have had one or two near accidents.
I found this to be a really useful saw. It really helped with removing some hedge trunks from my garden. It made it very easy to saw through the large branches and roots and the to cut the trunks into smaller sizes for moving. I would certainly recommend it for garden work.
I bought this to cut down the mass of aging ivy that was threatening the stability of my garden fence. Many of the branches were too thick to cut with a hedge trimmer and difficult to get to with a hand saw. This saw was a marvel and cut through it with ease.
I shall use it as well for chopping up some of the other stuff that is littering up the junk corner of the garden (old seat & bench) that needs to be taken to the skip for disposal.
Good reciprocating saw, and even better when on discount but over 60’s customers of a large orange coloured shed could have had it for less during the summer of 2015. Beware this is a green coloured Bosch piece of kit not blue coloured, i.e. not manufactured to “professional specs.” e.g. the motor probably not designed for long hours of use at a time or gearbox made of plastic composite instead of metal.
This is a great, if slightly dangerous (due to it’s weight), saw.
I bought it to tackle a mixture of bushes and trees at the front of my house. It’s really quite powerful and cuts through branches (mine, up to 10cm diameter) with no issue at all.
It is heavy though and so I’d advise against propping yourself up, on a ladder, and using this one handed because once the branch you are cutting has been cut through the Bosch Saw will drop due to it’s weight and who knows what it will hit.
Great product though. Would recommend.
Really ergonomic saw, saves a great deal of time for demolition jobs and for pruning of small branches. So far I’ve used it to cut up old pallets and crates, and to cut branches up that are too large to go through shredding. With the appropriate blades I found the former task slightly easier than the latter, but the saw made short work of both. You can cut pretty accurately, but if you really need accuracy rather than speed, then you’re better looking at a different type of saw. I nearly always buy Bosch for reliability, as I’ve never had a Bosch tool fail on me, but there’s a couple of cautions if you’re not familiar with this type of tool:
1) Practice using the SDS blade change system before using the saw properly to ensure you’ve got the blade correctly locked in far enough. I didn’t get the knack at first and the blade came out. Minor problem really, but worth checking.
2) The saw comes with a blade for wood and one that’ll do wood and metal. Bosch do quite a wide range of blades for different applications, and if you’re using this saw for garden work it’d be worth buying the specialist ones. Bosch don’t seem very good at advertising their own accessories, but you can find the range of blades on their website – all are available to purchase at places like Amazon / Screwfix etc.
Very pleased with saw. Only used it on tree branches and small logs so far. Despite what Amazon say it does not have a safety switch and Bosch did not seem bothered about the misdescription so lose one star. Did get 10 refund from Amazon though.
I needed to cut up a big metal water tank in a very tight space in our loft. This saw did the job as well as I could have hoped. I went through about four blades – they tend to buckle if you get to a nasty patch, a corner, or are forced to work at an odd angle. But I didn’t slice a finger off or fuse the whole house. The machine is pretty heavy and needs two hands to operate safely, so it’d be tricky up a ladder. If I’d been cutting up the tank in a large open space, I’d have done it in 10 minutes with this saw and used fewer blades, I’m sure. The next thing I’m using it for is to lop trees, so I’ll be quite high and the weight could make it awkward. I’ll update my review afterwards.
Excellent product. Reasonably light, but does need two hands on the saw, so the item you are sawing needs to be secured.
Isn’t agressive in its action so starts without jumping. If you want to saw green wood you need the extra blade, not the one that comes with it, but there is a good selection of blades available. Feels well made, time will tell how it lasts but previous experience of Bosch tools is good.
Cuts through prepared and rough timber with relative ease. Longer blades than those supplied by Bosch are available and make cutting thick materials like logs much easier. The weight of the saw is significant and vibration whilst cutting make strong arms and gloves a necessity. All in however, this is a powerful saw for the money.
This model does not have a safety switch as my previous model PFZ550E, so carries on moving when you finish sawing, a bit disconcerting when you are up a tree. Otherwise very good produc
i used this saw to cut up some logs for the fire brilliant tool for the purpose i bought it for. i have also used it to trim a tree in my garden worked absolutely fine ideal for these type of small jobs would recommend to anyone who also have similar type of work or odd jobs to do, quick and easy with this saw, not tried anything else with it yet but i am sure will not be disappointed. just check the size of any extra blades you order before buying as i bought shorter blades which came in use any way on the tree but will not be adequate for thicker branches. over all a brilliant tool very happy with i
I bought this saw to chop down a rather large bushy mess in my back garden.
This saw was very easy to set up, very easy to use, didn’t overheat and burn out, has not really broken a sweat if I’m honest.
The rather large bushy mess in the back garden is now sprinkled as ash in the composter after some lovely firepits and there is more light getting onto the patio.
If you have such a project in your back garden, this saw will allow you to achieve results with aplomb.
I hadn’t realised that this thing was the size of an assault rifle when I ordered it.
The blade fix mechanism is a bit tricky to use and you have to be careful when handling a blade and trying to fix it in.
Other than that, it seems to be a solid tool.
Wow. This thing is a real monster!
Only bought it a week ago and already using it way more than my chainsaw!
Bought essentially to chop timber for firewood where nails and other metal fixings are an issue.
Hardwood or soft wood, this rips through it whether using wood or wood/metal blades (what a cracking idea they are, perfect for what I need).
I am somewhat looking forward to seeing what else this beast will take on in the garden and around the home!
The variable speed works great and gives you a much more controlled cut.
A word of warning – you must use this with two hands. One is not enough and it will jump all over the place. Coupled with a lack of safety switch it ensures that life becomes lively for a second or two.
But of course, you wouldn’t be using this without an RCD would you? (Really… Would you???).
Do also ensure that where possible the wood is stable/clamped before you cut it otherwise again things can get lively!
I must admit I had never used one before, experiment with it and you’ll soon figure out what works for the saw.
A very solid piece of kit, exceptionally easy to change blades and ready to go from the box.
Easy to use, and saved me a lot of work by handsaw on a small demolition job (wooden partition wall dismantalling) especially slicing through awkward nails with the right blades. A bit heavy to handle, but you get used to that. Replacement blades are not as long as the supplied blades (originals were about 10″ I believe), unless you can get them from another supplier?
I was browsing for a saw to compare prices and Amazon showed a good quality saw, Bosch, as new or a used option. I went for the used one as it was a fair bit cheaper and had a pleasant surprise when it came as new but with packing that had only been opened one time. A great bargain for a quality item, well done Amazon.
I purchased this tool primarily for dismantling pallets. At time of purchase I was not aware that special blades are made for this which cut through nails as well, I have since acquired some from another source. The reciprocating saw and pallet dismantling blades work perfectly together, rendering pallets into usable timber without any split or wasted wood (Any nail heads are knocked out later). The quick blade change system is a real bonus, no more fiddling with allen keys or spanners. The tool is quite heavy so there is the added bonus of an upper arm workout at the same time.
Having used hand saws in the past, its a revelation to use this tool. I put it to the test on a lump of 3×3 and some rough timber I had. A knife through butter comes to mind !!! What a brilliant bit of kit. Only time will tell if it is long lasting, but for now I can relax my arm muscles, at last !
Bought one as I needed to remove the old metal water tank in the loft. This model feels quite heavy when you pick it up and is very solid. It came with one blade wood/metal hybrid. I bought a pack of bosch metal blades. Suitably goggled and masked up I have to say this saw went through the tank like the proverbial ” hot knife through butter”. I had to cut it in half and in half again to get it through the loft hatch, took less than ten minutes. Did not notice the weight of the machine when it was in action and didnt ruin the first blade I used. Very impressed am sure it will last a while and be invaluable for other jobs when called upon. A great tip I was given before I started, sweep and hoover out the inside of the tank before you start will save you a lot of grief and mess.
This is a powerful and endlessly useful tool in the workshop and garden. I bought it to take branches off of trees and it has done the job with ease. If Bosch ever redesigned this saw, they might think of an extra handle, as it is a little heavy one handed and since it is inherantly dangerous, i thought that a cut out might be an idea. These things aside does what it says on the tin.
I’m not a usual reviewer but I used this product for the first time today and wanted to let you all know my thoughts.
The tool itself is a solid but of kit that takes both hands to hold at all times when sawing. The quality is as you’d expect from a Bosch product i.e. great. Its a really simple tool to use, simply clip the blade in the top and away you go. Compared to using a chainsaw its a pretty safe tool to use in my opinion. There is a bit of push back from the tool when the blade gets pinched whilst sawing but this is easily overcome by holding on tight. A big bonus is that you can saw straight on the (soft)ground, unlike a chainsaw.
The reason I am writing this review is to make the potential purchaser aware of the pro’s and cons of using a reciprocating saw like this. In a review of the smaller brother bosch saw I read a review that a lady was using it to cut firewood and was raving on about what a good job it does.
Unless the reviewer was using twigs on her fire, this machine is going to take you a LONG time to cut your firewood. Its simply superb for cutting small stuff quickly and safely. Limbing (cutting off branches) on small trees is quite simply fantastic, as is cutting through smaller trunks and doing a bit of DIY tree pruning. Anything over about 10cm in diameter and the saw starts to struggle a bit. Theres also some smoke coming off the blade, which gets rather hot. Although being a power tool I’m not going to start dousing it with water!!
Part of the reason why I bought this is to compliment my two chainsaws and to give me a tool for all shapes and sizes of wood. For larger pieces I would go with a chainsaw anyday. Yes, its not as safe as this saw but it’s a darn sight quicker with larger pieces. Where this little tool excels is for those jobs that you don’t want to get geared up and fire up a chainsaw for. Being a part time chainsaw user and reading the accident statistics on them I get a bit reluctant to go out of my comfort zone with a chainsaw. i.e. felling trees, up trees, cutting up brush etc.
With this saw I would have no problem whatsoever trying something new or slightly less safe than i’d like. ie. up a tree.
So.. as long as you are aware of the limitations of this saw or you dont have a requirement to cut anything over a few cm then this baby is just perfect for the job. For anything remotely taxing you’ll need a chainsaw or the like.
Taking all this into consideration it’s still a great bit of kit that is guaranteed to save you bucket loads of time, and sore shoulders. Now i’ve used it I wouldn’t want to be without.
