Raspberry Pi 400 4GB Official Start-up Kit, UK Layout
It’s a computer. Neat.
Featuring a quad-core 64-bit processor, 4GB of RAM, wireless networking, dual-display output, and 4K video playback, as well as a 40-pin GPIO header, Raspberry Pi 400 is a powerful, easy-to-use computer built into a neat and portable keyboard.
It’s a Raspberry Pi. It’s a keyboard.
It’s a Raspberry Pi designed into a keyboard.
Raspberry Pi 400 incorporates a purpose-built board based on Raspberry Pi 4. Featuring the same powerful processor, Raspberry Pi 400 has specially designed thermals to keep your computer cool and silent while you’re hard at work.
The GPIO pins remain accessible, so if you want to explore beyond the desktop, you can connect components and prototype your projects.

Ignore the nay-sayers, this is a quad core computer that functions perfectly well as a media centre, emulation machine, or standard computer.
No problems at all and easily overclocked to 2 ghz
The product is a all in one piece, vere it is very useful to manage. It comes with Raspberry pi software, however, I have changed it to kali itself and it works fine.
This is ideal for learning how to use a Rasberry Pi without having to build one yourself, or having to buy extras such as a keyboard.
Just plug in a power source, mouse and HDMI cable and you are away.
Am hoping to turn it into a Retro Pi so I can play old ZX Spectrum games.
hey act like it’s for kids but this stuff ain’t easy to learn even as an adult lol. Still a great buy, comes with a booklet to help learn.
would recommend
Everything well presented in book and the book excellent for beginners. I did have a problem updating the sd card but its so easy to download and update to a newer version of the official operating system and put a sd card in the easy access slot it gave me no problems what so ever. Works with my main monitor, tv and a portable monitor I have. Tested as well a KDE version operating system seen on youtube which surprised me to have such eye candy desktop things I wouldn’t have thought it would run. Also after looking at the book and some youtube there’s projects that can be done like on the Raspberry Pi 400. Going try twister os next as seen favorable reviews and then try some emulation next. May even try using it for day to day stuff like internet, emails and browsing plus Ive seen you can use it with Zoom as well with a webcam. Wont use much electric then compared to an older pc as well as have some fun with it as well. Also purchased a usb 3 to sata cable as the newer raspberry pi os lets you run from a SSD drive, making things quicker than a SD card.
This is very good for those that want a cheap pc, has all the usual features based on Debian Linux and not Microsoft or any of those other systems. Has a fundamental training package for starting to learn various types of hardware and programming including the latest versions of scratch and python. If you want to train at a higher level you will have get that book elsewhere, but you will be able to use that knowledge on this product. Would recommend.
I leave this hooked up to the TV for web browsing and to watch Netflix. The current version of Raspberry Pi OS has Widevine support which means smooth video streaming. Watching Netflix, I can’t tell the difference between the Pi and my much more powerful laptop.
Plus, by swapping the micro SD I can play games on Retropie. This is a beautifully versatile little machine!
Fantastic kit to encourage an enquiring mind. Something a bit different from gaming but educational too.
Previously purchased one 8 years ago for eldest son who went on to use it as part of A level computer project!
These are fantastic, you can do so much with them , run the latest Linux distorts , emulate old computers ( Amiga , Atari St, c64 and many more) you can run a lot of retro games machine emulators too ( Megadrive, SNES, master system , nes , pc engine , a lot of others too), if you are looking at one of these to do any of what I have mentioned , GET ONE!, you won’t regret it , add an Xbox 360 controller and you are set for a great time
Pro: good and lasting cheap solution for the children to learn Linux and coding. Easy to swap the MicroSD towards the need of my children.
Con. Non really. I run more then 6 pi’s in the house and love them!
Just like having the old style of retro computers c64 , spectrum , plays everything even dreamcas
You should get it. Its AWESOME. 🙂
Can you add a headphone jack next time .
If you have a kid, get it. Remember your ZX Spectrum or Amstrad CPC, this is the modern equivalent sort of. It’s not a games machine but it can be, however it can do most things a regular computer can except playing video is not it’s strong point, however most kids do that on their phones anyway.
You can do almost anything a regular computer can at a great price but there’s a limit to what the processor can do for that price, video stretches it a bit too far. However you can code and become a maker and plug electronic circuits directly in or link it up to a Pi Pico or Arduino and do even more.
It’s neat, everything’s in the one box, ready to go. Just plug it into a tv with an HDMI port.
Adults can use this too of course and if you want to do your word processing and spreadsheets the included software is free and Microsoft office compatible. You can set it up to run lots of retro games from all the famous old computers and consoles too. It will happily browse the internet but some sites can feel just a little sluggish.
Great for a kid, great for an adult that wants to muck around with electronics or programming, thousands of compatible add one for this, it really is like the glory days of the old computers just brought up to the modern day.
Purchased to use as an HTPC as the two set top boxes I purchased and subsequently returned were poor. The Pi400 runs libreelec flawlessly and with a quick swap of the sd card provides a very versatile learning machine. Highly recommended.
Great little computer, comes with Raspbian on a SD card, easy to start up.
Simply insert a USB-C cable (yes, the kind you have to charge your phone), HDMI connector and SD card and you’re off!
Speed wise it’s OK, if you want to surf or code you’ll be fine. I use it to code in a Linux environment.
For entertainment, I found Kodi to run quite sluggishly on it (in Raspbian, not from boot mind you), but that might just be the build I installed. If you need more speed, you can easily overclock this Pi to 2.1 Ghz – and the cooling fan that’s built in is definitely up to the job.
I got this for my 10 year old. He’s learning coding at school and is top of his class so I got him this to help him learn more and he uses it all the time and loves i
I’m currently working through the book and it’s great. Always wanted to try coding for beginners and there’s an app called scratch that my son uses at school that does this very versatile little computer.
Bought as a gift but I have multiple Raspberry Pis. Great gift or hobby project for home media delivery, retro gaming or if you just need something to browse the web and watch some videos on.
Super impressed with the quality and feel of the keyboard. I really was expecting something far lighter and flomsy, but it’s on par with some decent Laptop keyboards.
first class xmas present for my 11 year old grandson who after connecting to his monitor was able to start “coding” immediately
Brought me back to a time when computers were more fu
The lack of a head jack was very disappointing, but all other aspects performed as expected. Good value for money
I wanted a quiet media player to sit by the bed. I installed the i3 window manager, vifm and mpv. Slapped a Nobsound HiFi Headphone Amplifier & DAC Audio Decoder in the back which in turn connects to a Yamaha Amplifier. All the media files are stored on NFS file shares on another Linux machine in the living room. Plays 1024 video very well and I can listen to my audiobooks sans computer fan noise. It just about handles YouTube if you are patient but Twitch TV seems to be too much. I am very happy with it.
This is great bit of kit, I own every RPI before this and several CM4 Modules, but as an all in one unit plug and play it work great and slip it in my bag and take it anywhere. Brilliant for on the spot coding or computing as long as there is a monitor about.
Super easy to get started and configure.
Initially bought as a device to run Pihole on my network but I am re evaluating the possibilities.
This, combined with a 128Gb SD and a portable monitor can work as a perfect starter computer for kids (or dads).
As it has 3 USB ports, albeit one occupied by the supplied mouse, one can attach external storage and plenty other usb 3.0 peripherals.
The built-in 1Gbps ethernet and 5Ghz WiFi makes networking a breeze.
This is a great little computer, it’s endless fun and so much too be learned.
I have purchased Raspberry Pi’s right back to the initial version. I wholeheartedly recommend this product as the box contains everything a beginner right up to advanced user would ever need. The SD card comes with preinstalled OS and once everything is plugged in it’s a breeze. Have installed Retro-pi on another SD card and again the speed advances with version 4 of the pi have really helped emulation on even the newer systems such as the dreamcast.
Would and will buy the next versions!
Compact, good quality and all ports easily accessible including the GPIO pins. I am using a wireless mouse rather than the one provided…. thought the included mouse is decent considering the cost of the kit. The units cooling solution has kept the main cpu cooler than most cases you can buy for the bare Raspberry Pi 4 Board.
Just perfect ! Its all Raspberry Pi 4gig mem in a keyboard with x2 HDMI 4k output ports. Works with Ubuntu no probs. I managed to get it to work with a 1024GIG micro SD card (yes ! it worked) but very slow,
so definitely a 128 GIG or even 512 GIG micro SD card should be sufficient. Great for Arduino + Freenove Microelectronics kits. Will work with USB speakers.
Very happy.
You already know what a pi is. This one has the usual ports etc, but is in a nice format with integrated keyboard, and it’s a bit faster. Feels strangely authentic when playing emulated games from the old microcomputer era that require keyboard input. Mouse feels cheap, and the lead is short, but it works, and you probably have another one anyway. The user guide that comes with it is really good. Device itself is light, as you would expect, but a solid enough thing. I’m just using it as an emulation device mostly, which it is very good at. You could just about use it as a daily driver PC if you only need to browse or email, but it’s not going to perform like a laptop. But it’s not for that of course. If you want to learn how to code, or play old games, or control machines, or all sorts of other things, get one.
247 page book -everything to get children of all ages fired up about what you can do with some tech knowledge- whilst having fun fun fun. Unbelievably slim keyboard housing just requires the supplied mouse, hdmi lead and usbc power-supply plugging in and your ready to go 🙂
Unboxed 4:00pm and 10pm I had:
Rasbian, Ubuntu, Suse and Retropie up and running.
Mixxx(DJ software), LMMS(Digital Audio Workstation), Audacity(Audio Editor) installed and running.
Completed the “Hello World” – first Python lesson.
Ordered a pair of retro games controllers
“GeeekPi 2PCS/Lot USB Controller Game Pad Joypad Joystick for PC Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Retropie”.
AND Now 3 days later:
Have a functioning retro games machine that can double as a PC, DJ workstation or Music production workstation.
All for under 200 including monitor
So Yes ***** all day every day!
I have seen this at various prices. Go to the official Raspberry site to see how much it should cost, then start from there.
As a low cost computer, if you have a spare screen or HDMI input to a television then this is all you need. Everything that comes with the Pi software package works well. Alternative OS less so as this is a low power device optimised for Raspbian. It comes with the whole of Libre Office and VLC for playing media.
It also has the I/O port at the back should you feel like playing with the programming languages. I might use this for programming Pi-zeros in the future. What I primarily bought it for was as a cost effective DMX lighting controller using QLC+ at its base. I’m told it can do that but you have to pay for (quite rightly) the bespoke version of QLC+ customised for the Pi. I haven’t got that far yet.
I already owned 1 Pi B+ and 3 Pi 3B+ I’m ashamed to say only employed as Libreelec Kodi clients and was really looking for a Pi 4 when I happened upon this Pi 400 (thank you Amazon for including it in the search results.) A no brainer as to which to buy quite frankly unless you need the Pi 4 specifically for a particular project. I was already having evoked within me that ZX Spectrum feeling from when I was 16. Just over 90 whole pounds and 2 days later the shoe box sized package arrived. I’ve hooked it up to a 37″ 1080p TV that was redundant and looking for a use and oh goodness what a joy. Some easy set up, a few updates updates later and I’m immersed, under the bonnet of this surprisingly responsive and breathtakingly brilliant machine. I had my career in IT however thoroughly enjoying working through the Scratch and Python exercises in the highly informative and engaging book. Around every corner there is something to try and explore; a bit of set up to get just right, a project to spend an afternoon learning about. Endless fun. Quite brilliantly thought out and put together by true geniuses and great people at the Pi Foundation.
The library pdf e-books to help with the widest range of projects that the Pi Foundation have had written and made available for free download under the Help->Bookshelf menu item is quite stunning.
As well as more educational software and information than you could shake a stick at, it is also supplied with Libreoffice, CUPS (for printing), games, video not to mention anything else you could likely think of within the software repository. Just awesome.
Have already bought a second machine for my 30 yo son who teaches and also wanted one 30 minutes after looking around mine. My 4yo Granddaughter is next.
Unable to recommend highly enough. Unbelievable value.
This is a brilliant piece of kit – very competitively priced (just be sure to buy from the official Raspberry Pi shop on here, not one of the alternative listings that are twice the price!) and includes the Pi 400 as well as a very neat mouse (nice short cable), micro-HDMI to HDMI cable, USB-C power supply, SD card and a fantastic printed manual. In use it is really very responsive and is kept regularly updated. Highly recommended.
I have quite a few RaspberryPi’s 3b+ and RaspberryPi zeros (which I love)…but the pi 400 has been the Best Buy so far .
