Good microphone. Now I can do my videos with a better sound
I am a Photographer who bought this for some Video work that I do. I do have a background working in sound recording and know Rode to be a great company for quality sounding gear.
This product has great quality sound for its price range, and it is incredibly easy to set up and use. They are quite bulky and I do understand some peoples comments about the springs in the battery compartment seeming a little flimsy, but time will tell.
Out of the box the plastic casing did have some white marks on it, which seemed to have brushed off after a couple of uses. I’m sure it was purely and one-off and the product works fine. I unfortunately didn’t photograph this, but it really wasn’t a big deal for me.
Rode garanzia come sempre, prodotto eccellente!
Slightly larger than I would have hoped, but the build quality is rock solid, transmission distance is enormous and the actual audio quality is spot on. Having a battery meter for BOTH modules on the receiver, is a stroke of genius.
I have nothing bad to say about this product.
I am SO GLAD that Rode has provided a genuine alternative to the brilliant (but hugely over-priced) Sennheiser options.
look, there must be hundreds of reviews out there, i bought this kit knowing it would work fine,,, rode is a very good company, buy i
I have purchased two of this unit and so far so good with them. My Only complaint is that they are king of bulky but that it, was he offer a great sound quality for a kind of affordable price.
Also noticed that this camera with the new packaging, featuring two individual boxes for the TX and the RX unit, just in case you look a lot of tutorials and unboxing in YouTube, you gonna get a slyly different package.
I bought the Rode Filmaker kit so I could use Radio Mics with my Gimbal and also have a wireless boom pole. Rode kit is great and these don’t disappoint, the fact you don’t need to bother with frequency licenses is brilliant. They pair brilliantly and work over a good distance and through the odd wall (which is impressive)
Took these into a TV studio when I was working and got the Sound Supervisor to give the a once over, he was incredibly impressed with the noise floor, reproduction and clarity.
There are better Radio Mics out there but these are amazing for the price and the ease of use
These are pretty easy to use and produce some really nice sound for a decent distance away. So far so good. Not really much more to say on them as it is a pretty straightforward product. Will update if they don’t end up lasting.
Our YouTube videos now sound professional. Great transmission range. I love them.
Good price, great product quality feel, simple set up. Does the job!
I have two of these. They are simple to use and work flawlessly. We hide these little mics in hair and under clothing and they sound great. We had one lav mic go dead on us after 3 years, but Rode replaced it for us very quickly and without question under their 10 year warranty. For that peace of mind alone, I can recommend them.
I have both the film maker and news shooter kits. The system works really well, the only issue I had was the firm shooter transmitter would not lock shut the battery compartment so pulling off a belt caused the unit to open. Sent back to Amazon for replacement and new unit appears fine.
Mic has little background noice, other than that, its pretty good
The microphone kit is one of the best purchases I’ve made this year, it’s made a massive difference to my videos, the sound is crisp and clear and I’ve found the battery’s to last around two weeks with quite heavy use, the microphone wire to the transmitter is the only issue I have, even though I have had no problems with it, I would have liked to see this a bit beefier, I have a feeling the cable will be its weak spot, apart from that, it’s perfect for me, I’m not sure about the distance I can be from the reciver as I’m never further than 10m away from it, all in all, a very good choice for your audio.
I’ve used a number of video wireless microphone systems over the past few years; this is by far the best quality and value for money – seriously impressed! If you’re looking for a sub-400, license free portable wireless mic, I would highly recommend the RODELink.
used this at my wedding with my DSLR and it worked great. Much better that a gun mike
Excelente calidad.
his system is awesome. Great quality sound. Makes such a difference when doing interviews. I bought this system to connect to my iPhone 7. After a little research and a few extra adapters, I make it work with my phone. FYI for anyone trying to connect a wireless mic system to an iPhone 7, you need to purchase the apple lightning to USB 3 camera adapter and USB to audio adapter. without those 2 adapters, your phone wont recognize you have a wireless mic plugged in.
Easy setup great sound quality. Have a backup Lav mic the one supplied with the unit is flimsy. I had zero issues with connectivity, or sound until I had 10 lost takes because the mic died.. while attached to a seated person who didn’t even move! The transmitter unit is a good bit bigger than a Sennheiser type unit, but you don’t have any external antenna to deal with so that’s nice.
Love this product. It has good sound for dialogue, and pretty decent range.
Have used this for 2 years. Works fantastic. Like the sound. Got great support when I lost the little foam mic windscreen, Rode California just sent me one. This is THE wireless mic to use, unless you just have cash to burn, but even then, this sounds better.
Where do I start. It’s not a cheap outfit for an amateur but incredible sound results. Perfect tone, levels, looks and feels robust, voice quality is perfect and has base and depth , cuts out a lot of background noise and is unbelievably easy to switch on and off and attach to cam. Yes it’s a bit bulky yes it’s a bit plasticy , but it’s 500 quid less than the big boy brands. You won’t regret this purchase
I used to work professionally in the television and regularly used Sennheiser G2 wireless sound units. Come forward 12 years and I have been out of the industry for quite some time but was looking to delve back into video. Ideally I would have gone for the Sennheiser G3, I found it hard to justify the extra cost of the G3, so I ended up buying the Rode filmmaker kit instead.
Generally so far I have found it works very well with my Fujifilm X-H1, sound quality is good and it is easy to get up. Ideally I would like more information on the LCD of the transmitter but it isn’t a big problems as I can check most stuff via the camera. Having a headphone jack would also have been really useful, as the X-H1 doesn’t have a built 3.5mm jack socket unless you buy the grip.
Overall for the price you can’re really go wrong but if I was going to do video more often I would still ideally go with the Sennheiser instead.
I’ve been using the RodeLinkFM Wireless mic setup for a couple months now. First impressions is that it’s very easy to use. Plugging into my GH5 and turning it on and off…very simple. Batteries last a very decent amount of time. The reason why I purchased this was to be able to film and record auto-level audio at the same time without having to adjust levels or have somebody else run the audio. Very handy how the audio syncs up automatically to the video while recording on the camera.
I have always used Sennheiser wireless mics with a H6 (or previous models) recorder. Despite having to adjust the levels manually, the Sennheiser with the H6 sounds a little bit better…has a more “full” sound to it. So with that said, this RodeLink Wireless setup sounds a little more hollow…but not by much. In post editing… I adjust the EQ a little and that helps.
The only reason why I give it a 4 star is because the lapel mic and cable is a little cheap compared to a Sennheiser lapel mic. The clip broke off only after a few uses. I might have been too rough with it though trying to bend it back a little…but it broke off with little movement. I ending up attaching my Sennheiser lapel mic/cable onto this Rode Wireless set up.
Other than that, price point is decent. The audio levels adjust very well with different point talking at different levels. Batteries last at least full day when used here and there. Very good mic for a “One man band” videographer. Just be careful with the mic clip and you’ll be good.
Superb. The quality of the units, ease of use and audio quality is top notch. really can’t fault this at all, and use it for my YouTube videos with absolutely no complaints at all.
Well done Rode.
Super easy to set up and use. Batteries last quite a long time. They are also very lightweight.
Cannot speak highly enough of this microphone set. It’s my main microphone for making videos. The receiver can be used with the Rode Newshooter mic adapter is handheld mics can be used with it. The battery also lasts all day or usually multiple shoots. About 8 hrs continuous use.
Really easy to set up, good battery life, I use rechargeable Energizer batteries. The lav mic has a nice clean tone to it. The form factor is a bit on the cumbersome size, can be a bit uncomfortable for people to wear on their belt or in a jacket pocket if they’re not used to being miced up. Case feels a bit plastic but is nice and light. I have two of these and use them all the time, would highly recommend for their simplicity and quality.
Works very well at a fair distance. Good quality sound. A good investment.
Excellent unit for the price point.
The wireless transmission is reliable and covers a long distance (concert hall / auditorium easily).
The caveat being the unit is quite large and chunky, it’s made of plastic but feels robust too.
Compared to the Sony UWP-D11 for example, the quality of audio is just as good.
Battery is excellent, I’d estimate 9-12hrs
Doesn’t have any complicated menu system – switch on and auto pair and the mechanical switches for -10 / +10db are a good design feature to include.
The mute control from receiver is another good feature too.
The gold locks for the mic and 3.5mm cable are an essential feature for a professional device. Mine cage loose and was lost. Rode sent me a new gold nut quickly.
My microphone also broke; I started getting noise and interference where the wire wore out near the 3.5mm input, not from any real stress either. Again, Rode replaced it quickly and courteously.
I have not noticed any degradation in quality when using the XLR adapter for the coiled 3.5mm cable.
Future Improvements:
Smaller shell
Smaller furry
Invisi-lavs included
Dual antenna model
Hot shoe attachment on top of the receive
Quality product. You get what you pay for, and after watching friends struggle with cheap sets, I bought this. Now they all own one!
Easy to set up and start from opening the box, very good qua
It’s sound. Offers excellent value
sennheiser take a seat! We used sennheiser wireless for years and they worked but we always had problems with clarity and dropping out at distance. These are much much better and half the price, i will not look back.
Great product as usual! Love the Rode microphones and this one is part of it.
The sound quality is really good. I have only used it once and would not necessarily trust the range specifications, I had a few minor drop-outs. Very easy to set up, with a range of mounting options, clear display and useful features such as transmitter mute.
Pros:
1) pairing is idiot-proof: the one button design is great.
2) sound quality is great! Matches Seinnheiser’s for a fraction of the price.
Cons:
1) size: probably due to AA batteries instead of the smaller AAA ones. Very bulky.
2) receiver gain buttons position: when mounted onto the camera’s hotshoe, they are almost inaccessible. A better design would be to have them placed at the top when the slide cover is open.
3) receiver signal display appears to have only three levels: not ideal for those who want more volume control.
4) doesn’t come with storage/protective case (and there doesn’t seem to be one for this product).
Works well – really clear audio but the size of both units – too large. I’ve used it with a Sony a6500, as well as an iPhone 7 Plus and it works flawlessly.
can’t recommend these enough. i just wish you could link multiple remotes to the receiver.
This is an excellent piece of kit which I’ve used to great effect in a couple of commissions. Easy to use, good battery life and quality sound. I’ve been particularly impressed with quality outside on a windy day where the supplied mini dead cat virtually killed the wind noise.
Great wireless system! Used it on my first wedding with a panasonic g7. Mic on groom and it picked up the bride and pastor with no problems! Something I have been struggling with using a Sony bluetooth wireless system. Excellent choice if you are planning on doing weddings and such. Highly recommend!
Bulky compared to my Sennheiser system, but works flawlessly so far. Feels a bit cheap in the build quality, but that doesn’t bother me too much.
It works really well, but is is really really big!
I was expecting that and still got surprised.
This is the best wireless mic system I’ve ever used. Didn’t need to change channels or mess with it at all and the battery lasted forever inside it. The included mic sounds quite good and has a nice low-end which is often missing on the built-in mic included with most wireless systems. Very happy with the gear.
The quality of these mics were much higher than my expectations, they are perfect for clear professional recordings, the distance is also impressive, certainly a perfect range for anyones needs! Interviews are it’s strongest point but i’ve used it for advertisement as well and it’s equally as impressive!
My best buy this year. Every single filmmaker should have one of those.
Great product & good price! Only slight criticism, the cable on the mic could be stronger!
In terms of sound quality this is a great piece of kit but the build quality isn’t that great. After a handful of outings one of the screw mounts had chipped and the wind-muff is incredibly difficult to remove and some of the rubber seal has come off. I’m very careful with my equipment and always transport this in a hard case. So that aspect is disappointing but I guess that’s one of the things you get for paying double for a Senheiser kit.
As good as it gets. Great value. I shoot in the field quite a bit, as I do lots of outdoors/hunting/fishing shoots. So I was buying cheap junk that I wasn’t scared to destroy. Quality was awful. So I went with these, and haven’t regretted it. Rode Quality, extremely durable. Great range.
Great product. Full sound, easy to use.
The only drawback, but it’s just a minor one, is the ease of muting the transmitter. You can easily press the power button to mute the unit, but it’s just a matter of making sure you don’t press it.
Other than that, I love it! I have a few of them and they work well!
I’ve only used it a few times so far and haven’t tested the full range but where I have used the system, it’s worked flawlessly. I’ve used it with both a Panasonic GH4 and a Zoom H5, and got great results with both at ranges from 10 to 75 feet. Even when there was significant foliage (bushes and trees) between me and the receiver, it worked well. Super easy to set-up and check along with great battery life using good rechargables. I’m definitely getting another for interviews.
Comparing the sound quality between::
1) Rode RodeLink FM Wireless Filmmaker System, and
2) a hard-wired Rode LAVALIER Condenser Microphone, Omni
with both results recorded on Zoom the Zoom F4 Multitrack Field Recorder:
There is only the slightest, almost imperceptible difference. The hard-wired mike is only the slightest bit sharper. I do not hesitate to use the Rodelink for producing documentaries.
Amazing n time delivery and overall very satisfied with the produc
Got this to shoot video for my business. It works well, but it was a little hard to figure out at first. wish I could get a second mic and battery pack, but it RODE doesn’t seem to sell those accessories separately.
Excellent.
Note: After you pair your device, you might notice that the audio meters will disappear after a few seconds, do not worry, it just goes into battery saving mode but the audio is still transmitting.
Great mic set, wireless range is great. Quality is great and of course you can swap the actual mic if you want to. I can’t seem to charge my rechargable AA batteries using the USB port on the side of each unit though.
– microfono
– clips da bavero (lavalier)
– antivento in spugna
Alimentazione a batterie e autonomia
This is an awesome microphone set. The price was good from this seller, shipping and delivery were fast and easy. This is a really nice product for simple, easy film/video making with great sound.
good price for Lavs but these are larger and bulkier than the more expensive brands (which i also own). I tend to reach for my sennheisers over these because of the size difference. but sound quality is excellent.
I’m a former radio person working with video now and it’s always been a frustration that film-makers’ sound kit seemed always to be an afterthought or incredibly unreliable or difficult to work with. Especially as, working as a one man doc outfit with a very limited budget, the radio mic has always been something that was outrageously expensive or, if affordable, too low quality to be worth using. Either way sound has always been a worry. I’ve tried fixes with cheap lapel mics on long leads plugged into sound recorders but it’s always been the weak link and a source of worry on location until now.
Without doubt this has been the best film kit purchase I’ve made in recent years.
Update: have now bought a second – no hesitation either.
Combining this set with the tascam dr60d ii and setting the levels relatively low It’s meant that you have ‘set and forget’. Even mobile, out on foot, with the reciever and recorder tucked into the top of a small camera bag, add an earpiece for monitoring & you’re free to concentrate on the visuals, whether or not you link directly into the camera. Quality is very good indeed – eminently usable in broacast terms – and battery life is amazing; the current set has been in both receiver and transmitter for over four hours’ woth of recording. Being able to monitor battery life on both units by looking at the receiver box screen just gives you more reassurance.
The only down sides are i) the size – slightly larger than competitors and ii) occasional dropouts if you’re in a building and separated by more than one wall. But the range of 30m plus, and out to 90m in the right conditions is fabulous. Very glad I bought this. Will add another one as soon as budget becomes available.
I can’t think of a reason why you would want to pay twice as much for a unit.
Highly commended.
Good wireless Mic system, reliable, very easy to use and good price.
Quick and easy to set up, but needs a clear line of sight to reach advertised distances.
My advice is go up somewhere high.
Might not be the broadcast industry wireless mic pack of choice, but it’s a mighty fine piece of kit for those on low to no budget.
Fantastic solution for recording video interviews with semi-pro camcorders and DSLRs. Yes, it’s about 4x the price of the cheapest solution, but also about 4x better in sound quality, and much easier to use than more expensive pro systems.
Dead-simple brainless hookup — “it just works” (after you figure out how to put the batteries in) without any pairing magic or channel selection issues. Unlike other solutions below this price point, this is a *digital* transmission, which translates to a lower noise floor — less hum, hiss, dropouts, and spurious noise than with analog transmission. I tried the Movo kit, and the level of hiss and hum compared to the Rode was unacceptable. Didn’t try the Azden kit, I jumped straight to the Rode after watching a youtube head-to-head comparison review.
The lavalier (lapel) mic sounds fantastic — rich bass for nice chest tone, and picks up pleasant high-end sibilance from collar region. Includes spring-loaded pin mount, foam cover, and outdoor “dead mouse” wind sock. No instructions on how to attach the pin or covers to the mic cord, but given a diagram of the “finished” look you can puzzle out how to do it. Yes, the ultra-thin lightweight cord from the mic to the transmitter is fragile, but that also makes it easy to thread through clothing and minimizes cable rubbing noise. Love the positive-lock screw-in 1/8″ mini-plug connectors — you don’t *have* to screw them in, but that avoids problems with talent or camera operators accidentally pulling out plugs and having no audio. Love the status display on the receiver — shows battery level of *both* units, and indicates when talent unit is muted or shut off. Weight is heavier than cheaper units, but still fine to mount on camcorders or DSLRs (I measured 0.41 lbs for each unit). For use with a SONY 4K handycam and its recessed multi-interface shoe, I needed more room for my fingers to fit underneath the receiver, so I used a cold shoe adapter JJC MSA-MIS Standard Cold Shoe Adapter Converter for Sony Multi Interface Shoe Camcorder (Black) to gain an extra inch of height. There are internal level settings (0, 10db, 20db) on transmitter and receiver — I like that, this setting is rarely changed (default is 0db on both and works fine) and there’s no risk of accidentally hitting an external switch.
On the negative side, the manual is super-dense (you’ll need a magnifying glass) and basically useless, and Rode is the WORST at designing battery compartments. I had to search for a youtube video on how to put in the batteries!! You push in a plastic button on the back and then *slide* the *larger* piece to open — very non-intuitive. Inside, the battery springs are *crazy* tight, if you don’t have long fingernails you will need a small tool like a mini-screwdriver to pry out used batteries. Rode suggests Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries for max life; but just be disciplined about shutting off units right after an interview and they seem to last a long time.
Pros who want more channel options and XLR connectors and level/tone controls have lots of options starting at about 2x the price of this unit, but for hobbyists and semi-pros who want great wireless sound quality from a single mic without any fuss, this really is the best solution.
I bought this for filming myself preaching in church, so I had quite specific requirements. First, the camera has to be unobtrusive and therefore a fair distance away. The mic has to produce a clear sound and, if possible, not pick up too much background noise. I tried recording with just the built in mics (terrible), then with a Rode shotgun mic (a bit better but still not great). I have now used the RodeLink successfully three times. The sound is great, with just enough of the resonance of the building picked up for it to sound realistic and not too dry. It is easy to set up and to change the channels, though it would be nice if this information could have been provided in printed instructions rather than just on the Rode website. I use it alongside another radio mic for the PA system. If the two units are placed too closely together they create a hum over the PA, but putting one on my right and one on my left with my body in between cuts that out. Initially, I tried turning the mic unit on just before the sermon, but I found that if the units are not both on, then the receiver unit turns itself off. I do not yet know about battery life. The transmitter unit is a bit bulky compared with other radio mics, but for me, wearing clerical robes, it is easy to hide it. The mic itself is very small and unobtrusive, though would be less so if I needed to use the fluffy windshield.
Rode Wireless Audio System Filmmaker Kit
Amazon: schnelle Lieferung, alles perfekt, wie immer.
Mikrofoneinsatzzweck:
1 Sender
1 Empfnger
1 Mikrofon
1 Klammerhalterung
1 Popaufsatz
1 Windschutz
Batterien rein, Gerte an (Anschaltknpfe lange drcken!)
🙂
LOVE the audio these capture! This has really ramped up the quality of my footage. Mic sensitivity is so good that I can mic one person and capture 2-4 others in close proximity (natural conversational distance) extremely well. If you shoot presentations, these work great if you can tape the individual, or very well if you opt to use them as a discreet (but limited distance) area mic.
Absolutely brilliant, An expensive outlay but what isn’t for quality products in the video industry.
The sound quality once set is amazing and they are very robust (I know…I fell on it ouch) They can be used for so much more eg. sound recorders or put on a split jack and put through two camcorders etc. It really has given me freedom now to be wireless and the sound is crystal clear without any interferance at all. Definately recomended.
Love this product and is probably one of the best bits of camera gear I’ve purchased in recent times. Having the flexibility of the talent being able to roam freely and/or you (camera operator) being able to move around easily is amazing. The audio quality is great! The fact it uses wifi is a bonus; I was looking at other wireless options but having to get a license and also the fact I travel to different countries, I couldn’t rely on just one frequency as that could have been illegal or required a license to use in different countries. Using wifi kept things simple.
The only bad thing I’ve come across and this has only happened once is the audio cut out briefly mid take so we had to shoot that part again. But as said this has only happened once and doesn’t detract from a cracking product.
Wish I bought one sooner.
Solid piece of kit, I have two sets plugged into a tescam DR-60d for a cheap sound solution for budget short films. make sure to get a 3.5mm to xl
I’ve used this Lav system to get some really great audio from my interview subjects. I bought it for use with a Canon DSLR (and it is geared towards DSLRs with an audio jack instead of XLR inputs) but you can buy an adapter if you need to run it to something that only has XLR. If you are looking for something that is much cheaper than Sennheiser’s lav mics, this is the setup to go with.
It would be five and may be five once I get beyond the introductory playing with it stage. The seller’s delivery and service were excellent and I will get a second set fairly soon. Then we’ll be talking five stars. Richard
Great little lapel mic. Useful for making videos and easy to transport.
First pair was from Tyrnman Electronics. The mic did not work and only when I re-purchased from MusicMatters did I then become fully aware of a suspicion – that the first set had also arrived incompletely packaged (missing box, missing instructions, etc).
The new set from MusicMatters is great. Incredibly simple to use, great quality, hundreds of pounds cheaper than you-know-who and the digital aspect makes them free to use anywhere – truly global.
Quite well made but the mic cable is a bit flimsy. However, it does give good results and is a good alternative to Sennheiser as it’s half the price. It is also supplied with a ‘pop’ shield and a furry wind shield, which I pleased about.
Wow…very nice and so easy to set up. Just make sure you turn the sound down to the lowest level on your camera. Again…make sure you turn down the sound on your camera to the lowest level. Again…. You get the idea. If you don’t you might hear hissing or even something that sounds like interference. Adjust by using the controls on the Mic itself. With that said….awesome sound quality on my Sony RX10 M2. Not much more to say…it is so easy to use and once you realize not to use onboard audio you will really like it if this is the type of mic you are looking for.
Wonderful piece of kit! having used the more expensive Sennheiser wireless kits in the past I can honestly say that this gives them some decent competition, especially for the price!
This kit is the bomb, for this price I did not think it would perform so good, superb sound quality, all round a brilliant bit of ki
Excellent piece of kit, does what it says on the tin.
Range good for over 30 metres outside.
Doesn’t like brick walls between transmitter and receiver.
Instructions less than 100%.
1. Relatively good price
2. Sound production is fantastic
3. Very easy set-up
4. Long Battery life
5. Comes with wind-shield (good)
The only “drawback” is the size compared to the G300. But that’s not a problem for me.
Amazing piece of kit, I suspect this will be the first of many that I will be buying to supplement my current Sennheiser setup. Looking forward to what Rode has in store for us in the future.
Excellent value microphone. I have one of the sennheisser G series radio mics and this is really just as good. The build quality is a bit more plasticky than the Sennheisser but if looked after its will do a great job. I needed two radio mics and wasn’t prepared to pay for another Senheisser. You can virtually buy two of these for the same price. Very easy to set up. just pressing a button on transmitter and receiver. I’ve also tried it running a rode NTG2 instead of the included tie clip mic and it works absolutely fine so could provide a radio boom pole option if needed.
Fantastic bit of kit. Very easy to setup and work with. Good value for the price.
No problems so far.Quick and easy to set up.
Phenominal for the $$. Huge range and if you ever go too far it auto searches channels and has you connected. Sound quality great and performs well in the wind. long battery life, only annoyance is that it doesn’t keep the level meter on the screen after a few seconds.
Love it, does the job and very easy to use and setup.
This is what I was looking for, a decent radio lapel microphone at a reasonable price. Nice to set up and use.
