About your Russell Hobbs microwave
Microwave ovens do not generate any heat themselves but instead cause water molecules in food to vibrate. This vibration produces heat that cooks the food. This is why your food will come out of the microwave piping hot, when your utensils inside the microwave stay much cooler.
Microwaves cannot go through metal, so the inside of the appliance is lined with metal. The door is lined with a fine metal mesh which stops microwaves getting through.
Cleaning:
Avoid using scouring pads, steel wool or other abrasives. Warm soapy water and a sponge should get rid of all moisture and food spillages.
How to get the best cooking results
Reheat
With five microwave power levels to choose from, you can ensure all your food is cooked or re-heated to the optimum temperature.
Auto-Defrost
This microwave has automatic defrost settings, all you have to do is input the weight of the food and the microwave selects the ideal defrost time.
Auto Cook Menus
The RHMM701 also features pre-programmed auto cook menus such as pizza, fish and popcorn, allowing you to cook all your favourite food at the push of a button.
Avoiding Mishaps
To avoid any microwave mishaps it is recommended to take extra care with the following:
Low moisture foods (eg. cereals, bagels, dried pasta, pulses and chocolate)
– These must be cooked on a low power level for a very short length of time, or preferably not at all.
High sugar content foods (eg. jams, syrups)
– These foods can become easily ‘super-heated’ when cooked in a microwave oven.
Foods containing alcohol
– Foods with an alcohol content must not be cooked in a microwave as they could ignite.
Foods with a membrane or outer skin (eg. fruits, sausages, potatoes)
– Food with a sealed or none porous skin must be pierced to allow pressure and steam to escape

I oederd this smart red microwave fit well in my kitchen and its very easy to handle kids can use it very clear instructions I would recommend it’s very powerful gor it’s size .
A very basic machine, which is good for some people.
There are three things I found irritating.
1. There are no seconds on the dial, so have to guess when it’s ready if in, say, for 3 1/2 mins.
2. No light when it’s operating.
3. There is no clock
Too basic a machine for me, but too late to return it. However, it will be fine for some people’s needs.

Does what it says on the tin. Seems solid and well made. Only negative is that the controls are not easy to read unless it’s in a well lit area.

…then you might as well buy one of these.
Admittingly I don’t use it on a daily basis, probably a couple of times per week. However it does the job in defrosting and cooking food and (as yet) I’ve had no problems with it.
It looks nice as well, quite retro in design. I’d recommend one of these if you haven’t got much cash to spend.

I’ve had this microwave for a year now and I’m really pleased with it. It works well, looks nice and doesn’t take up much space in my kitchen. It can be a bit tricky if you want to heat something for less than a minute (the timer isn’t very precise), but it’s not a deal breaker.

So far so good. Seems a little over zeleaous with the cooking, spuds cook very quickly… but I like it. It looks great, door is a little feable but i guess its cheap and cheerful. I would buy again though.
Not too good with jacket potatoes
For some reason it causes a burning smell and burn marks on the base of a jacket potatoes when on medium heat and top of the potato was still uncooked – had to clean it with bicarbonate soda to get rid of the smell. Thought it was a well known make and should have been ok – never had a problem in the past with old microwave.
Russell hobs RHMM701S microwave
I purchased this Russell hobs microwave for a surprise for my girlfriend as her previous one was showing it’s age? Twenty years old and of a different manufacturer? So far she has been using her new microwave nearly everyday for the past few weeks and has had no issues or indeed problems. It’s a basic model which is really easy to use and she finds it great to reheat various homemade meals from her freezer. The real test I feel will be over the festive season when it really does show it’s worth while purchase.
Shiny New Microwave-unpeelable label!
We haven’t used this yet, as we’re still looking for the right location in our kitchen. This microwave has side vents and our previous unit had top vents. We are currently very frustrated by the unpeelability of the label stuck on the front. You would expect a readily peelable one, so you don’t scratch the beautiful shiny new front. Sadly not. We will live with the half peeled label, until we hear back from Russell Hobbs about how they recommend we get it off!

I will update this review if anything changes and I run into problems with my retro cream R&H microwave. However, for now it looks great and runs perfectly. For someone who has poor eyesight and arthritis in fingers, the twist dials for the power settings and timer are a great relief in this digital world where everything requires finger dexterity and finding your glasses before you can operate anything!
The size is perfect for my small kitchen, I would not have fit a larger model in.
The only thing I will say as a heads up is to check you have the head clearance (30 cm) and side clearance (7cm) when the microwave is in situ or like I do, just slide it out a bit from under the overhead cabinets before using. Like any operating machinery, not following these instructions could compromise the function or damage the microwave- it has vents on the side which need the 7cm clearance and can get hand warm on top, so needs head clearance to prevent overheating.
It makes a normal loud microwave hum but if it starts making an unusual noise or accumulating an excessive amount of steam, I would stop using it immediately but, early days, so far it is a great and attractive addition to my kitchen, matching my R&H toaster as well as my retro cream and chrome kettle (of another brand).

My eyesight was poor, when I first used it. I need someone to say temperature is botton dial, time is top dial. Usually, microwaves are opposite way around. It works brilliantly, on med high, I’ve found.
Item is worth considering.

Bought for its simplicity, why do you need all the fancy gadgets when all you want is to heat a product. 2nd time purchase, first one lasted 2years and inside rusted from condensation.

We like this microwave but it has one small drawback ,the door glass is tinted black and you cannot see how the item is doing in the oven.

Cant beat buying a good reliable brand !
Just using this for 5 minutes I realised just how rubbish my other one was I returned that I bought from a well known supermarket, This it’s expensive looking easy to use well worth every penny can’t beat relying on such a good brand , will now replace my other appliances with Russell hobb , will never buy cheap brands again.
Fit for purpose
Perfect replacement for a Hotpoint that decided to blow up and catch fire one month out of warranty.
I have a few Russell Hobbs pieces so this fits right in. Specs are basic 700 watts and 17L with 24.5cm glass turntable. Outside dimensions are the same as most compact 17 Litre microwave oven.
Let’s hope it lasts longer than the 2yr one month predecessor. One issue I have is that you cant see what you are cooking. Yes there is an interior light, but the door glass/plastic is tinted like a mirror so have no idea if food is boiling over etc.
Russell Hobbs Retro Microwave
Old microwave packed up and looked for a replacement. Saw the Russell Hobbs which was exactly what I wanted – Retro cream, 2 dials only and not digital – everything matched with my new kitchen doors, including my RH cream kettle. Did not want dozens of push buttons with numerous digital settings and this model for me was perfect. Also good value for money. Would highly recommend.

Simply works
I replaced my old microwave that had LEDs, a dial, push buttons and many programs and used to beep annoyingly every five seconds after it finished. I now have a microwave that has two dials, one of which is left set at full power and the other controls the timer and is the only one I need to use. When it’s finished it goes BING once, very loudly, and that’s it. Highly recommended!

Nice looking microwave as you’d expect from Russell Hobbs. I bought it to replace a microwave that was about 3 times the size of this one. I hadn’t realised how much room the other one took up on my worktop. The colour blends in nicely with everything else in my kitchen. Works as you would expect. Happy with the price also
Stylish and compact additio
I like this microwave as a whole, although if I am honest I do miss the digital timer for things you want to warm up under a minute as you kind of have to guess with the dial for timers under 1 minute. Nice modern finish and compact size makes this a good edition to any kitchen.

My mum’s microwave apparently went bang! She had a massive panic, I just ordered a replacement. This is spot on as she gets confused and worries if items are just too clever! Manual settings are spot on for her and all has returned to calm.

Nice easy to use. The only down side is there is no release catch for the door it’s a matter of pulling the door. My old microwave had a little button which released the door but all in all J like this microwave

No digital push buttons so easy to use. Ours arrived with a sticker in a prominent place advising if we wanted to use for less than 2 minutes, turn the dial above 2 minutes and reverse. Unfortunately this sticker was extremely difficult to remove and when doing so turned this prominent area dull whilst the rest was an excellent shiny black.

Dials are best for my mother in law
Bought this for my elderly mother in law as it has ‘retro’ dials and is easy for her to use. She seems unable to use push button devices so this is ideal for her. Looks good in her worktop. Very neat size too
My mum love this I bought her, she said it’s so stylish the right colour she was looking for. The build quality is as you would expect at this price range. They are not built to last long anymore unless you paid a lot more than this. This is just a nice little microwave for warming food up nothing special and as long as you clean and dry it out after every uses it should not rust for quite a while. Anyway my mum loves it so I am happy.

Great basic microwave, good value for money, vdoes exactly what you’d expect it to. The only improvement I’d suggest is having the internal light come on when you open the door. The light goes on while cooking but on just with the door open which makes cleaning it properly slightly more difficult.

Interestingly you supplied a BLACK MODEL instead of the cream which I ordered!!! We didn’t notice until the delivery man had left, but because it fitted in with our dcor there was need to complain. Obviously more up to date than the model we had had for many years. Like everything else it is fine when you get used to using it. hank you for quick response to my request.

Fabulous looking, good working microwave, had 2 years, not used too often maybe a few times a week, last few weeks noticed food has taken a lot longer to heat or been excessively hot in a few minutes, after putting my 18 month olds soup in microwave in microwaveable bowl after 10 seconds or so it just started sparking bright yellow inside microwave then a huge bang…..black smoke started bellowing out.
Very dangerous as both me and my 18 month old daughter were only a meter away.
Gutted this had happed!!!

there are no timing guidelines or temperature advice or cooking recipes until i receive these i can not safely use it all searches have proved fruitless

Recently moved house and forgot to bring my microwave from my old house. Been without one for about 4 months but found we were wasting money on food we would throw away that we would of had as left overs when we had a microwave so bought this one. Brillant price and looks smart too.
Microwave has gone rusty
The issue that I have experienced was: The interior has gone rusty under the plate and pock marked with rust on the sides.

I wanted a small microwave and that’s what this is. It was relatively cheap and you get what you pay for. The timer is not precise under 2 minutes as it’s a dial which has to be turned past 2 mins to activate and then turned back to less than 2 mins. This is awkward if less than 2 mins is really needed. Otherwise it does the job. I only wanted it for warming ready meals through and that’s fine. My attempts at poached eggs as described in the recipe leaflet were disastrous but very funny. Won’t be trying that again. Overall, good value for the money; basic and easy to use.
