    Ryobi cordless hedge trimme
Love the cordless hedge trimmer. It is so much easier to manoeuvre around the garden without about tripping over wire or cutting through the wire.

Does what it’s meant to do. Happy with it.
Only used it the once but seems like a good bit of kit. Went through hedges, bushes, shrubbery and very small branches with ease. Does what it’s meant to do really. Not very loud and light enough.

    Super Easy to Use
Tidied up my conifers super quickly and easy. Right through the twigs and didn’t get stuck on anything. Initially I was a bit nervous of using this but was instilled with confidence with the safe guards and multi triggers so any fear of me accidentally cutting myself was put to rest. The Hedge sweep attachment was really handy at knocking off and guiding the trimmings. Not overly heavy and the battery lasted long enough for me to fill my garden waste bin.

    Excellent produi

    Powerful and easy to use.
It’s very powerful and cuts through quite thick stems of my llelandii hedge. The ability to turn the body at ninety degrees to the blade makes straight cutting easier.

    Great stuff
My wife wanted to trim the hedges. She was like Michael Myers running round the garden with this. Struggled in thicker branches/twigs but did the job nicely.

Really pleased with this, helped to clear some overgrown shrubs and bushes easily. Not the cheapest product but we are very pleased with this addition to the other Ryobi items we have.

Just remember it's not a chainsaw and you'll love it.
I bought this to chop down a large bush. It’s easy to get stuck into chopping but as long as you remember it is a hedge trimmer, not a chainsaw then it works great. Yes it will get jammed on thicker branches but it automatically cuts out and is easy to remove. BUT – it lacks safety features. When handling the blades to remove stuck branches, you need to remove the battery as there is no safety lock.It is difficult to carry with both hands without turning it on and when it is swinging around your legs it’s a bit worrying although I doubt you could cut your legs with it. You can’t operate it with one hand though so it isn’t possible to chop off your fingers either. The hedge sweeper attachement makes it very easy to cut hedges and sweep the debris off in one go. Overall a superb peice of kit but be careful when handling it as with any power tool.

Good hedge trimmer with the right battery
This is a great hedge trimmer and managed to do about 100 foot of beech hedge on a 2Ah battery. Struggled a bit with the thicker branches, I don’t really rate the hedge sweep attachment although that might be better on a different type of hedge. It was good to change the handle direction for vertical cuts, although this was sometimes difficult to manoeuvre. I have upgraded to a 5Ah battery which I think will improve the cutting power. The Ryobi One system is a really good option for cordless tools.

    Perfect Cordless Hedge Trimme
This trimmer works perfectly. I was able to do 2 hedges in 10 minutes which would normally take me up to an hour with a pair of shears. Even better that it can use the same battery as my lawn mower & drill

    Excellent Hedgetrimme
Will admit that what initially swung me towards the Ryobi trimmer was that I already had other Ryobi battery power tools and could use those batteries with this. But once I used it I was delighted with it. Lightweight, depending on the battery pack you use, powerful, good reach/blade length.
Only grumble is the instruction book is total rubbish. The section in English is right at the front and contains just the usual don’t be an idiot safety information. The actual instructions on how to use are in a picture section right at the back of the book. Couldn’t be further apart. Had worked it all out myself by the time I found it.

Well I was wondering how good this product would be , as I saw reviews for similar and some were not as good , even one star .
Being a long term user of Ryobi , I pull no punches when it comes to reviews , and I can say although it’s gonna be heavy , it’s well balanced , and very easy to use , and I have to say almost too easy as I felt that there needs to be an additional safety feature , it’s just too easy to switch on , having said that , there should be nobody near you , and with both hands on machine you will be safe .
I like the swivel change on the head to twist angles and the cutter is a complete savage. It destroys anything in its path . For that reason I’d give it top marks , and great value .

My attraction to this product was its compatibility to use batteries that fit with other Ryobi products I own, as with all items Ryobi design and innovation is first class. The inclusion of the Hedge Sweep importantly keeps debris clear of the cutting blades improving efficiency tremendously.

Having no cord is wonderful. No more slicing through the cable or trying to avoid doing so! The battery last a long time and the blades cut through privet, beech and conifer hedges with ease. It is slightly heavy but otherwise a quality product that I have had for over a year and a half.

Simple tool to use. I use it to prune hedges and shrubs and is quite able to deal with the slightly thicker bits. The only thing That I think is worth considering is the fitting of a SAFETY. TRIGGER in the handle to prevent accidental operation of the trimmer when picking it up or altering the angle of the handle such as on the strimmer.

Ryobi do it again. There one+ tools are the bees knees. I now have about 25 different tools from glue gun to lawn mower, this hedge trimmer is absolutely fantastic very light weight easy to use. Cuts through branches with ease. Using it with a 4ah battery after 30 minutes of cutting I’d only used up 1 light of the battery. Very good value for money, get yourself one, you won’t be disappointed

buy it! Don’t listen to the negative reviews. I have a 47m meter hedge on one side of my back garden and 20m on the other. Not to mention my entire frond garden. 20 minutes and I was done. Used to take hours! I honestly can’t belive I got all that done and had half a battery left… these were not small hedges at all. It would be worth mentioning i did use a big battery 5amp 18v. When and if it breaks I will get another one 100%

Great hedge cutter especially when used with 5.0AH battery. I cut three large hedges at the front of the house including a Red Robin and a Holly hedge. Another great Ryobi produc
Recently purchased this as getting increasingly worried using a corded one. Our front hedge is quite some way from the house and having metres of cable lying around was an accident waiting to happen.
Removed from packaging, popped a battery in, and bingo. So much easier to use without the inherent dangers of electrical leads.
Too early to comment on battery longevity but it’s plenty powerful enough and cuts through foliage like the proverbial hot knife. Great tool!

    Fantastic piece of ki
I don’t normally do reviews as most of them can’t be trusted. However I looked at loads of YouTube videos on which hedge trimmer to go for rent for this one what’s the rotating head. I am very familiar with Ryobi tools that we use at work namely drills and angle grinders. This particular piece of equipment was an unknown and wasn’t sure how I was going to perform. When it arrived it was very quickly opened and I used a partly used battery from my drill and went to work on trimming the ivy from the front of the house and along the fence. I couldn’t do the whole of the wall as birds are still nesting but wanted to tidy up the bottom part for access and tidiness and only took 10 minutes. Took 25 minutes to clean up afterwards. Very easy to use and the rotating handle was brilliant. Would definitely recommend this product to others And realise they’re not the cheapest and if you haven’t got any batteries you will need to buy some again batteries are not cheap which is the only downside. Not particularly the lightest to use but I found it okay to use and didn’t create any problems hence only four stars on weight. Five stars and everything else on the build quality is excellent as always with their tools. Hope this review helps any potential purchaser.

    Superb Hedge Trimmer!
If you already have a Ryobi battery and charger (or even if not) this tool is mint!
You don’t need a massive battery like for the lawnmower; the 2.5Ah battery will do the job effortlessly with plenty of charge to spare. The 2.5Ah batt. also sits flush with the bottom of the unit.
The adjustable handle grip is easy to use and makes it super easy to cut from all angles. It really is very very good.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBetter than expected.
My expectation of Ryobi One+ products is quite low.
The circular saw uses a Ni-cad battery every 15 minutes, and struggles to cut 9mm ply.
The jigsaw is a little better.
But I’ve got two batteries and a charger, so I thought I’d try one more tool: the hedge trimmer.
FIRST; Amazon sent it by Hermes: big mistake. Hermes is cheap for a reason.
SECOND; The trimmer worked straight out of the box, using a battery that the circular saw had used for ten minutes. It cuts like a dream, provided you don’t expect too much from it. This year’s soft growth (it’s April) was easy, but it struggled with thicker old wood.
The ‘sweep’ works well, and solves the old problem of removing cut pieces from the top of the hedge.
After a few minutes changing the angle was easy.
THIRD; It’s heavier than I expected; but trimming hedges is always a workout and it’s a lot lighter than the petrol long-reach machine.

I’m pleased. I now plan to trim every month rather than paying the lads to do it once a year. If the machine lasts a year it will have been money well spent.

Very nice product, I’ve changed from a 2 stroke one to this and the benefits are:
No 2 stroke fuel to store and mix
    Hardly any noise
    No fumes
    No motor maintenance
Very little difference in performance, in fact I would say this is somehow more powerful than the petrol one (I’m using a 5ah battery and would recommend doing so)
    Lightweight
Uses the same charger and batteries as my other tools.
All in all very pleased with it, would recommend.

So far I love these. Have a reasonable size garden with a mixture of bushes and this cuts through no problem. Great maintenance cutter for occasional trims.
This is a great hedge cutter and I really liked the lockable rotating handle and quiet operation. The anti-jam feature is annoying however and after a while will cut out on smaller twigs, this isn’t a cutter for high-torque, high-powered hedge lowering or thinning – the Ryobi OPT1845 18V One+ long pole hedge cutter has the bite for this and also the Ryobi RHT36B60R 36V 2-speed hedgecutter.

    Good but quite heavy
I bought the Ryobi one as I already have a number of their tools and batteries. If you don’t already have a charger and battery it becomes an expensive item.
Often I have found that battery tools are a lightweight version of the mains version, that is not the case with this, it is a heavy duty hedge cutter and quite heavy.
It has an adjustment so you can change the angle between the handle and cutting blade.
Although it has the usual safety controls, press two buttons, they were well placed and not inconvenient.
It comes with a slide on attachment to sweep cuttings away from the blade, I found this quite useful when cutting the top of the hedge as I could sweep the cuttings from the top of the hedge in one action, not much use when cutting the face of hedges as it only gets in the way.
I use it with a 2.5A battery which is more than enough for several cuttings of my 65ft hedge.

    Great trimme
Ryobi never lets you down and this one is another winner. Easy to use, lightweight and quite powerful. It’s all you need to keep control of those hedges.

Excelent very light & well made
Excellent if given this as much abuse as my petrol hedge trimmer & it still works great.
I’ve used it on privet up to 15mm diameter with no problem you just have to slow down a little.
Compared to the weight of a petrol trimmer it cant be beaten.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersUSED TOGETHER WITH THE RYOBI BATTERY POLETRIMMER - GREAT ONE+ SYSTEM
I am keen Ryobi ONE+ cordless ONE+ battery fan, owning many Ryobi tools using third party batteries =- 4-5.5A. In the main the Ryobi garden tools are light to use (I am not keen on heavy petrol garden machines — I don’t have loads of upper body strength nor strong wrists nor keen on handling fuel nor inhaling the fumes n or fighting with tools that won’t start etc etc).

A challenge is to understand the different Ryobi battery hedge trimmers on offer – and how to choose…

We have some 300 feet of hedges on our main track alone — and other areas too – as we live on what was a farm. I am in my late 50s so tools must be light and without cords too. Our requirement is beyond the average cut in most gardens. We cut at least twice a year depending on growth.

BACKGROUND: In 2017 I bought a RYOBI OHT1850X cordless extended reach hedge trimmer — ONE system battery. At the time I bought this as a compromise which I thought would work. I didn’t feel that I needed a pole trimmer and felt a standard hedge trimmer wouldn’t have enough reach. I changed my view in 2019. See below. However after 2 and a half years heavyish use the 1850HX motor burnt out, lots of smoke. In fact it had smoked a couple of times shortly after purchase in 2017 when I realised the motor didn’t seem to cut out adequately when it jammed (inevitable) — ie reached a branch slightly too tough to cut etc. I stuck with it. From that point on I was very careful and tried hard not to jam it. Also, the grey handle in the middle came loose a couple of times during my use. I had to screw it back in. The 1850 HX never seemed very powerful . It also seemed unwieldy, overall a design too compromised although it gives you some extra reach, not huge amount in my view after much use. In retrospect before the motor finally burnt out I felt it never quite worked for me overall. However I felt the machine had given back reasonable value — it has done a lot of work – and given I am bought into Ryobi ONE anyway so I considered what to replace it with in the Ryobi ONE range.

REASON FOR PURCHASE IN 2019: I needed a replacement and decided to buy two machines: a Ryobi pole hedge trimmer OPT1845 (ONE system battery again) AND a more standard hedge trimmer OHT1855R (ONE system battery again). That was the right decision.
To me these seem much better designed machines to the 1850HX — less prone to jamming and I suspect the motors do/will more quickly cut out if jamming is a threat – ie that aspect of motor design may have improved — Ryobi don’t say that but that’s how it seems to me. Time will tell. Both machines seem superior in design and complement each other well.

The 45cm Pole trimmer has lots of reach. I have used the extension pole (ie 2.9 metres reach) and this longest length is not easy to manoeuvre but with practice it is very usable for short periods. It is heavy and does strain your arms. Without the pole the reach is still good – and somewhat easier/lighter to use – but you need to set it up for the length you need, of course at the time. We have areas of height and width that require the longest reach. This device works well in my view. This 45cm pole trimmer doesn’t seem to have a smoky breakdown if it jams a moment. I think the design of that aspect is better than my old 1850HX.

Likewise the OHT1855R has same attribute — feels more able to just stop and not smoke (!) and the reach of 55cm is very good. This is a very light machine, ideal for me with lots of hedging etc. I haven’t used the rotating handle just yet. The ‘Hedgetrimmer Sweep’ feature is useful too. However the priority here has always been to just have trimmers that work / last etc — I am not after the very highest quality finish. The finish is good / very good and that is fine by us. Our replacement trimmers seem to have the capability of ‘sawing’ through thicker stems too.

These tools will last a fair time on the larger 5 amp batteries (third party I use), say 30-45 minutes pretty much continuous use. That aspect is no problem if you have 2-3 batteries. I have 6, more than enough as I need a break too!

I use a Ryobi self propelled petrol mower for now and await a good Ryobi battery equivalent. I think that could be a long wait. I need a genuinely strong and durable battery machine and think it will be many years before one will be on sale.

One of my favourite Ryobi products
Excellent product! I have quite a few products from Ryobi and this is one of the best. Trims the hedges well and in a fraction of the time compared to my corded alternative. I use with a 2.5ah battery rather than my 5ah keeping it lighter too. The hedge sweep accessory an added bonus.

Very impressed considering its powered by a battery. My 3.0 amp battery coped with all the hedges in our garden, including a mature bay tree.

    Ryobi Hedge trimmer simply brillia
Simply brilliant, Light weight, battery lasts for ages, the lack f a cord makes the job of hedge trimming so much easier and quicker. This is so good I now also own, Ryobi Lawnmower, Extendable Hedge trimmer and lawn edger and strimmer all one+ tools. I highly recommend them all.

first one didnt work, but Amazon replaced i
I ordered this and when I tried it, it could not cut my hedge’s, they just looked slightly chewed. Amazon sent me a replacement and it works fine, comparing the two side by side, it looked like the first one was incorrectly assembled, so the cutting mechanism was’nt properly coming together. The new one works great though and is a good addition to my other Ryobi Lawn Mower and strimmer. The only thing I would say is that it is quite large and heavy (compared to my previous Bosch hedge cutter), but it is fast and the battery lasts a long time

    Great budget hedge trimmer 😉
I wanted a cordless hedge trimmer , but I didn’t want to pay the earth for it .
To be Frank there is better cordless hedge trimmers out there but you will have to pay more than twice as much for.
I bought one with a 2 ah battery included it holds its charge quite well , but I would suggest you buy one with a larger battery to suit your budget.
