Excellent for cutting a high hedge. Didn’t like that the head didn’t tilt to 90 degrees. Once you have the battery and charger the 100 plus range are tools are cheap but very efficient.

Great cutter, used to do various hedges and laurels and works great. Good long reach making it easy for those tall hedges.

Had this about 6 months. This is a great tool for bigger hedges as gives the benefit of being able to stand back and see the straight lines easier. Also great for cutting the top of a Hedge without a ladder! With the extension pole in though it is much harder to use as the weight is not so well balanced and it has a lot of bend from the joints, but is good to get to those hard to reach bits as long as it’s not prolonged use.

This is the best hedge trimmer I have owned and I’d never go back to a fuel or a mains electric model. The decision to buy Ryobi was primarily based on the fact that I have some Ryobi power tools which means that I can share batteries between them and the new hedge trimmer. Though I did also buy another Ryobi battery to increase flexibility. Many reviews about this Ryobi hedge trimmer comment on its weight and ease of use. It IS heavy, though I found it an easy tool to use and I’m not a young person. I suggest that if you have concerns about weight / usability that you visit a retailer and handle one before buying. A lighter flimsy trimmer would likely not be “man” enough for my hedges which are monsters. Highly recommended.

This gives a great reach and removes the need for a ladder. It is however fairly heavy when using for prolonged periods of time. The supplied battery lasts about twenty minutes, so okay; but could be better!

I already own a Ryobi pole saw in the “One” range. I thought that I would just be able to buy the hedge trimmer head. Alas no you have to buy the pole, handle and battery holder. This seems excessive and kind of defeats the generally good idea of the system as all you are saving is the cost of the battery. Good product never the less but I now have 2 poles and battery carriers !

Ryobi cordless hedge trimmer is amazing compared to my old cheap petrol trimmer. Just plug the battery in and start working away. So simple to use and works better than my petrol one.
As well as hedges, seems to cut through small branches fairly easily approx 2cm diameter. Plenty of power for a fairly large garden. Really pleased with it!

Not as powerful as wired or petrol trimmers, but considerably more easy to use as a battery version. Can be quite heavy after 10 mins of use, especially with the extended pole, as the chopping head part is heavy and a fair distance from where your non-trigger hand can pivot. Still happy with it, but its more 5 mins of trimming then 10 of cleaning up before going back to trimming, to give my arms a break!

Exellent product which I have only used once up to now but when one gets used to the handling it gets easier.
The machine cuts well and the extensions and the cutting angles that can be used are great plus. For lower hedges the advantage of the removable extension is a boon.
All in all this is a very capable machine and gets the job done and I am well pleased with i

I think this is a fantastic piece of tooling, being a gardener I have used this quite a lot, it may not sound that powerful but it does the job really well, it’s light weight but when you use the extension pole it is a bit hard to control with all the weight at one end the harness is a big help for this. I completed about 28m of hedge on one battery. My only grip is with ryobi selling the tools without battery’s.

A nice piece of equipment, easy to use although a little heavy when used at full stretch. At the moment I am using the smaller batteries that I received with other tools, so battery life not as good as it could be with the larger battery. Useful though to have several tools using the same battery.

Great product, quality build and feels like it will last a long time if looked after and serviced appropriately.
Do bare in mind that the further you are away from your cutting area, especially using the extension pole at more horizontal angle, you will find that it gets heavy to hold quickly as the motor is in the head unit.

Shame there isn’t another adjustment for doing the side of hedges; the only one available makes an awkward angle and when using straight the battery catches on the hedge itself. Could have done with an inbetween position. Plenty of adjustments for the hedge tops.

is really heavy to be lifting high for a period
for the price its remarkable value really good quality ifyou already
    have batteries .
I’ll do one job at time with it next time instead of all
    in the same day.

I’ve cut three hedges this week and has coped well on all occasions. I have been using the 4ah battery and easily completed each task. What you should note is, that once fully extended becomes heavy to use. I prefer using just using the single pole if possible. You have much more balance and control on the single pole. Im a 38 yr old male and by day 3 my arms were tired. Overall really happy, cuts well and with the 4ah battery (new) easily gets you 45-1hr of cutting time.

A good reach with the extension pole fitted, the support strap helps by taking some of the weight although I found it a bit difficult to keep it level When reaching to full extent.

Very good replacement for long-reach petrol cutter from Screwfix, which was noisy, heavy, unreliable and took a real effort to change to longest reach. Impressed with this product, bought a spare battery to keep topped up, and just done two-thirds of our very difficult hedge, able to change standard to long-reach effortlessly which manages cutting of 8 foot wide hedge (with platform). I would recommend. Cost me less for this one year than a commercial cut would have, which is what I’d have had to do without it.

Used this on a conifer hedge 10m long by 3m high in conjunction with a 5 Ah battery. I was surprised at the size of some of the branches it cut through. My only criticism, as others before me is the weight. With the motor being at the top, it takes quite an effort to yield and I didn’t even attempt to use the extension pole. The trigger position is on one end, which limits how far you can reach with the other hand to achieve a balance. Maybe a secondary trigger part way along the pole would help with the balance!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have high and wide garden hedges to cut with restricted access. I previously had to climb on top of the hedges to access all parts of it. This product helped me to cut them more easily and safely. As other folks have said it is heavy to use but this is unavoidable given it is basically a cutter on the end of a long pole and all the weight is furthest away from your body. However, it is this characteristic that allows you to quickly and easily cut areas of hedge and bushes which you could not otherwise reach. I use a conventional electric hedgecutter to cut the easy to reach parts of the hedge and this product when it’s length is required. You will find it gives your forearms a very good workout if using it in the straight position and most folk will find 30 minutes cutting is more than enough for them. I will happily tolerate the product characteristics because it does the job i need it to do and it keeps me safe. Great product that i wouldn’t want to be without.

considering relatively light weight (compared to our old mains one). it made short shrift of our hedges and shrubs and small trees. standard battery (2Ah) lasted as long as I did (an hour), as it’s quite hard work holding it up at full stretch. Without the extension it was good for ordinary trimming. will probably get more gear in this range. had to get a manual pole pruner to do our tallest trees, but you couldn’t extend it any more safely. at least one doesn’t have to worry about cutting the cord.

My one comment and this isn’t really a criticism but it is quite heavy and therefore it makes my arms ache when using for more than 10/15 minutes at a time. We have a very, very large laurel hedge which is high and it’s made a great job of trimming it back. I’ve found the neck strap a bit of a nuisance as it was hard to get the strap to the right length for the angle I was using the trimmer. Overall I would recommend.

Ryobi One+ tools, i’m a convert, This edge trimmer is simply perfect, It has made hedge trimming a pleasure not a chore, Easy to use light in weight and very flexible, I had a 2.0 Ah battery and it lasts long enough to complete most of my hedges, have recently upgraded to 4.0Ah battery which appears to last forever. I would highly recommend Ryobi tools, I now own, the extendable edge trimmer, the small light weight hedge trimmer, a lean edger and strimmer, and a lawn mower, All Ryobi one+. I would recommend them all. I would no longer buy a corded appliance.

Golden Review Award: 26 From Our UsersIf you doubt the effectiveness of battery garden tools, buy this !! It’s brilliant when partnered with a proper 4Ah Ryobi battery (don’t bother with the cheap imitation ones). I have the small chainsaw version as well and with the two you can tackle most hedge / tree work around your home. The poles are also interchangeable giving up to 7m of reach (not recommended by Ryobi but works fine).

The hedge trimmer can be angled allowing you to top hedges quite well, although the bar is quite short so don’t expect to do it in one pass. A full battery lasts a good hour of constant use or longer if you avoid cutting small branches with it!

Easy to clean and lubricate, really can’t fault it.

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersPrevious to buying this, I had a corded telescopic hedge trimmer which did the job, but was cumbersome, heavy and had a cable which constantly kept getting wrapped around me, making it dangerous to use.

After reading reviews, I decided to buy this Ryobi One+ model, thinking that it would be much easier to use without the cables trailing along behind me. Don’t get me wrong, it is still heavy – especially if used with the larger 5.0aH battery, but with the lack of cables it is far easier to use and move around. It is also easily as powerful as a corded trimmer, and I have no yet seen it struggle to cut our trees and hedges in the slightest. An excellent buy.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersUse this with a 5.0 battery and it managed an hour or so of heavy cutting (my ‘hedge’ was actually a 10ft high row of elder, blackthorn etc with many branches as thick as my thumb). The sawing function actually works. A little heavy when fully extended.

Brilliant! Have electric Ryobi Hedge Sweep but needed the higher reach. Have conifers and large chestnut tree. Squirrels keep storing chestnuts and trees appear! This is brilliant for keeping growth under control. Have the chainsaw also. One battery. Excellent. I am only 5′ 4″ tall and weigh in at circa 8 stone so not a hefty lady, now over 60. Quite a long tool without extension but manageable for me. The cut this tool gives is good. Saves me a fortune on getting someone in. Also I can keep under control by doing a bit as and when necessary. All the reviews have helped me to use this tool effectively. Thanks everyone.

I really like this cordless hedge trimmer. It gives me freedom to wander around the garden, it is rugged and it feels as if it will last. Also, being cordless means that I can’t chop the cable in two (something I’ve done rather too often).

The only reason I didn’t give it 5* is that it is really a bit too heavy for me to use as I would like. The trimmer has plenty of oomph to get round the garden, but sadly I don’t.

    But I still like it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis cuts very well indeed with a 4 a.h Li ion battery it lasted the 2 hours of constant use required for the trees, laurels and other bushes in our garden.

It is nice that you can adjust the angel of the blades which makes it slightly easier for the higher work as it means you are not directly under what you are cutting.

Only down side, but as I would suspect it would be the same with any other similar product cannot be considered a problem with the product for review purposes is that fully extended it becomes top heavy.

I Would highly recommend this product.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFor all your tall hedge trimming needs.
Can be a bit difficult to wield when all the parts are assembled because it’s a long way from end to end as it’s quite weighty.
Your arms will get a good work out using this efficient machine.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGreat bit of kit, indispensable for a high hedge. This can be fairly well balanced with the use of the shoulder strap but does prove a little heavy to use in the end. No surprise here, just simple physics due to the length. Well built and functional, battery life is good (I’m using a 5ah). The down side is that it cannot be converted into a short handled trimmer for easier use on smaller jobs so I have had to use a more conventional model for that. All the same, it’s nice not to climbing ladders!

Great performance but the head is heavy and the shoulder strap is not effective.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI’ve decided to change my Kawasaki petrol hedge trimmer to an electric one, I have already 2 ryobi lithium batteries so went for the ryobi, I’ve done yesterday the side bushes in my garden and it worked excellent!!
Make sure you have the lithium batteries with the quick charger,it last for long and you can alternate batteries while charging one.
Highly recommended if you use lithium batteries.

Great product, much safer than balancing on ladders trying to cut hedges but it is very nose heavy. Best advice is to rest the cutter on the hedge and let the weight control the cut. Would be much easier to use if the strap connected behind the battery so you didn’t have to reach back so far to turn the damn thing on and off.

Another very useful addition to my ONE+ arsenal. Useful long reach for high branches and the 90 degree turn for hedges. Long run time and sharp blades.
