Without putting too fine a point on it, you can get just about the same sound from an SM58 that is equipped with a decent windscreen. It does have a form factor that is conducive to podcasting, but it’s both a poorer performer and larger that it needs to be, given what’s available today.

Having said that, it’s essentially a luxury product, it does something very specific, people understand what this specific thing is, the question is whether it’s worth that money to you.

I’ve used mics from a headset to a audiotechnica at2020 just for some background & this mic just sounds really good! I use this with a GOXLR I also fine tuned it by watching some youtube videos & tweaking it to my liking. Heavy price but at the end of the day it’s an investment into a potential future.

Before I had a Razer Seiren Elite, it sounded good but always had problems with clipping and background noise. The same with the Blue Yeti, so much background Noise, even with low volume.

Now with SM7B all the noise is gone, my voice sound superb, strong and clean!!

I’ve had this mic for a good while now and I don’t regret buying it at all! It sounds great on my voice and it’s high quality. I think my biggest gripe is spending so much on a microphone that I don’t really need for professional use right now. Perhaps in the future when I need to do voice recordings for videos or a podcast, but for now I’m using it casually and I don’t regret it either. I’m thoroughly happy with it 🙂

The microphone started out being very quiet but i realize now it’s because i had a bad audio interface, if it comes and it’s very quiet for you just do some research and there should he some affordable options. although, once you get that issue figured out the quality is incredible.

This is the best microphone that money can buy, that being said it is a little pricey at $400. THAT’S JUST FOR THE MICROPHONE. The microphone will not work out of the box unless you have an XLR cable, an Audio Interface, and a microphone arm to hold the actual microphone. Once you have everything set up and you start to use the mic, you will see that it is indeed a beautiful microphone and you will have no complaints. The quality of sound is impeccable and the build quality is very solid. I only wish it was $300 instead of $400 but oh well.

Where do I begin? This mic is legendary, and that signature, warm rich sound capture is what I believe launched my audiobook narration career! I have a mid range, rather sibilant and naturally plosive voice. I tried a lower priced podcast style mic, but it didn’t really complement my voice, even with eq and enhancement during mastering.
I was not getting any response to my auditions, so after himming and hawing about the price, and reading endless reviews here and elsewhere, I pulled the trigger and bought this mic.
Wow! A match made in heaven! This mic was made for my voice. I started recording auditions with it, and bam! I got my first audiobook job, with several other interested offers! Was it the mic, and its signature warm sound that complemented my voice? Maybe.. !
You will need a cloud lifter like a Fethead, which I use to get some real good gain into your interface.
This extra gain keeps the noise floor down, so you don’t have to ram the levels up to get good db into your daw.
Also, this mic has amazing emi and rfi rejection. Very low noise, compared to the lower priced podcast mic I used previously, which I had to remove hum noise from in post with a denoise plugin. Even in less imperfect recording areas with some room reverb, this mic can tame that. Great background rejection.

Love this mic, thanks Shure! Awesome product.

I’m running this through an old digidesign Mbox 2 that’s about 15 years old and the sound quality is amazing. If you’re using this for voice recording this is a safe bet and worth the money.

There are so many great things to say about this mic from build, sound, and 2 pop filters you cant go wrong.

It is expensive considering you need a good pre amp or a cloud lifter plus pre amp which puts the price tag much higher. Regardless you need to add $250-300 to the price tag if you dont have the other equipment. I personally bought this in hopes i wouldn’t have to sound treat my basement and unfortunately for me it changes nothing from my current Shure MV7.

I suggest the Elgato Wave XLR with the Shure SM7b as it saves you on the cloud lifter and its a very good product as well.

Lovely microphone. At first i though it would be intrusive as I was useted to my AT2035 being above and out of the way, but the mic is slender and feels natural when its close to your mouth.

Sound quality is brilliant. Comparing this to the cheaper AT2035, the quality is very close. AT2035 has a brighter oresance, but the SM7B has a warmer bommier presence. This can be changed with the SM7B with a presence boost to make your voice brighter, with a low end cut off to stop the boominess.

If you have the money this is a fantastic microphone, you dont need any mic activator or lifter as long as you get the right audio interface.

Now if you have less money, take a look at the AT2035, its a good starter mic.

  45. Patrick Collinson says:

This mic can work great out of the box if you’ve got an audio interface, but personally I feel that it also needs to be paired with a cloudlifter or fethead. I personally use an open source version of the fethead that is significantly cheaper. Just do an online search for “Phantom Powered Dynamic Microphone Preamplifier Board like FetHead” and you should find the one that I used. Even without this though, the sound quality is great although a little quiet unless you’ve got it right up to your mouth.

  46. ElvaMannsdhugt says:

I was looking for the best microphone to replace an existing 3 year old mic and this will be the very last. The sound quality and the sensitivity are excellent with the use of a cloud lifter to boost the sound signal. The quality of personal recordings (vocals and backing tracks) has never been better. This latest mic set up is going to allow quality personal recordings for years to come. A rather pricy item to be amortized over a number of years down the road. I can only recommend the use of this microphone to be complemented with a cloud lifter.

  47. Anonymous says:

As a dynamic mic, the sound quality is outstanding. The recording level will be quite low, however, if your mixer/audio interface does not have large amounts of gain on tap. Even if you do have sufficient gain, a Fethead or similar ‘mic activator’ is worth obtaining as the noise floor is lower than cranking your cheap audio interface.

But once you’re set up with all that this is a very easy mic to use. Rich, radio-ready spoken word tones, with little need to shape EQ. Any voice, male or female, is pleasantly flattered. Noise rejection is impressive too, making this a much better bet for recording in typical untreated domestic spaces than a condenser. That said, it can be just as rich as a condenser and does not sound like your typical ‘SM58-style’ dynamic.

I will keep mine. But I’m not using it for my current podcasting. Why? Because I standardised on Rode Procasters for me and my guests. They are less than half the price and still have a broadcast ready sound that, while not as dreamy as the Shure, is close and can be EQd to perfection. I simply have EQ and compression set on a Logic template I created and it’s largely press record and go.

In an ideal world, or if I had no budgetary restraints, I’d go for 3 to 4 of these Shures. They are used in studios the world over so why not. If you are just starting your recording journey there are cheaper ways to get a perfectly professional sound—even from 40 cheap ‘copy’ condensers. But for me, the Procaster is a great convenient happy medium.

I make programming youtube videos. I was previously using a blue yeti microphone to record my audio, but that picked up a lot of background noise.

This microphone has incredibly clean audio and doesn’t really pick up much background noise, even my (loud) keyboard.

You do have to talk pretty loudly and directly into it though, your lips should nearly be touching it for best effect. And you’ll likely have to amplify the audio post-recording as it is a little quiet.

Overall amazing microphone and well worth the money. Had I known it would be this good I would have bought it to begin with.

Many people will argue that other cheaper mics can do the same job or better with varied equipment or varied EQs or plug-ins. This is true for many things in the world. A sports car can be beaten by a budget car if fitted with the right tires and engine.

When you work professionally time spent can often translate to time wasted and out of the box this microphone delivers. Something that seems to be overlooked is that yes you can make lesser mics better to match the SM7B but you can also spend time and conversely make the SM7B better.

The mic has better dynamics and more headroom to work with so if out of the box isn’t good enough for you, work on your setup and tune it to fit your studio needs.

At the end of the day it is popular to hate on popular products but many forget that products don’t always become popular for no reason and it’s usually because they’re doing something right.

The included 2 mounts are also useful if you want to have 2 different setups we have one drilled into a permanent desk setup and the clamp mount is perfect for travel setups.

This Mic is used by almost everyone in music, podcast, radio and at home. You would find the SM7B involved in professional work. The built quality is super nice and feels heavy and you know it’s quality. It’s a beautiful mic with a fantastic low soothing sound. It is just gives the voive one of them tones that are always welcome and doesn’t irritate you. You need a very good interface to output the signal and perhaps invest in a cloud lifter as well to give the mic an extra gain 10db with no clarity loss to make it sound even more wonderful. It is a bit pricey for a reason as it just works in any environment even though a well treated room makes it shine.

That one Mic that everyone loves and it is for a reaso

I use this microphone for recording music in a small home-studio. Before this mic, I had two other options: the trusty and very affordable Shure sm58 (about $100, and it’s basically a 57 with a pop screen) and a cheap condenser mic I got for about $80-$100 (cant remember the manufacturer. At best, it’s somewhat decent for recording vocals.).

I got by with these two mics for a good while. Anything I couldn’t use the sm58 on, I could usually use the cheapo condenser instead. Best part ks these teo mics was under $200. A great starting point for a new studio space.

I started seafching for a new condenser mic as an upgrade. Unfortunately, it seems like there are only two price ranges available. Cheap mics for under $200. And excellent mics between about $600 and $5000.

The sm7b is a bit odd. It stands out for many reasons. First of all, the price. This thing has, without a doubt, better sound anything xonpared to suthbt under $200. It is better than some mics in the $600+ range, but not most of them.

Had the SM7B on a watchlist on price for a very long time. Finally hit under 300 quid so bought two…I know there isn’t much logic there!

Obviously requires a lot of juice so my Focusrite Preamp needed Fetheads to up the Db level to actually hear something, but they are great. I use them for podcasts, and singing through. Recently set both up to record an acoustic guitar song too, spot on.

I know they get a bad wrap from sound buffs, but from someone who has owned Rode Procasters, Rode NT2, Blue Yeti, and a 4 mic from the local computer shop, when you do more than basic recording ( as in apply effects etc), they really show why they are top banana microphones.

You’ve seen the SM7B in all of your favorite youtube videos, you’ve heard it in some of your favorite hit songs, and now you’re considering purchasing it. Just pull the trigger. This mic is a fantastic addition to any mic locker. If you can nab a deal on it, take it.

The only drawback is that you probably want to invest in the cloudlifter box as well. That adds to the price. Still, you won’t regret it once you hear that crisp aural magic coming through your headphones.

Dann muss man sich selbst hinterfragen was man damit anstellen mchte,

Klare Kaufempfehlung.

Arrivato puntualissimo in condizioni perfette.

I’m delighted I done my research, reviewed plenty of options but deciding to spend a significant amount more and go for the professional audio setup with the Shure SM7B.

I managed to get the microphone on a Black Friday deal which swayed it for me. Still expensive after purchasing the additional sound mixer, shure extender bracket to fit the Rode PSA1 boom arm but after hearing the quality and receiving compliments on how great it sounded, I’m very happy with the purchase.

It was always my dream to make my first ever album recording as a solo singer using the Shure sm7b microphone, and follow in the footsteps of so many of my heros who have also had the pleasure of recording using this superb piece of equipment. And what a great surprise it was as my wife had ordered it for me and gifted to me just before I walked into the recording studio to record. I would recommend this microphone to anybody. I have also used it as a live stage mic and it sounds absolutely perfect, but please make sure you add the cloudfillter for that little bit extra oompah!!! When you have spent so much on the microphone to start with, it just makes sense to add it and reap its full benefits, with at least an extra 20 dbs more sound.

Shure sm7b !!! What more is there to say!!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersMicrofono in assoluto eccezionale. In termini relativi, dipende.

I would still use my Neumann in the studio, but for recording sessions in untreated rooms or for very loud singers in general, this mic is the bomb. Works well on any source although I would rather use something else on acoustic guitars. Make sure you have a good preamp though, you’re gonna need it! If it helps, my Apollo Twin works very well for that, especially when tracking through any UAD plugin.

    Could it be cheaper? Absolutely

I bought this microphone for my YouTube streams. I had a blue snowball before. The quality is so amazing. No echo gets detected which was a huge issue with my last one.

Bought a cloud lifter and a scarlett 2i2 to boost the overall gain of the microphone which is needed as it’s a very quiet microphone but the quality is amazing.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersCe micro est tout simplement incroyable.

I can see why this mic is popular with a lot of podcasters and fellow content creators. You just can’t beat the vibrant sound the mic gives off to your listeners. It picks up my low points and highpoints which is a nice change from my other mics. I have owned both the Yeti and AT2020. Both are decent mics in their own rights but if you wanna take it up a notch, look no further! Also if you have a go-xlr or xlr-mini, you don’t need a cloud cloudlifter! The default settings are high-quality enough without a cloudlifter. It is a must buy if you care a lot about audio quality!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis microphone has a very good frequency range, the low end is very pronounced which makes it perfect for podcast. You can also record vocals with this microphone and after a little bit of EQ, it sounds fantastic.
However it is an extremely quiet microphone, so you would need to buy a cloudlifter in order to get a usable signal. You can also use it without a cloudlifter, but I won’t recommend it because you would need to crank your gain knob to over 90 percent.
If you are a beginner, I would suggest you to look somewhere else, but if you want a microphone that can last you for a lifetime. You can’t go wrong with the SM7B.

Very versatile microphone for podcast and vocals.

Unlike other expensive mics, this mic doesn’t require 48v phantom and works pretty nicely over all, the sound quality however… IMMACULATE, best mic I’ve ever used for home recording and streaming. I did need to boost the gain for some programs like discord but this was a software compatibility issue and not an issue with the mic itself. this was sorted by also purchasing a Cloud Lifter along side which adds 25db of clean gain. overall 10/10 for this mic!

Used various mics for radio broadcast recording, finally took the plunge. No regrets, a brilliant mic
