Brilliant bargain for £9 on Argos ebay shop.
I have been waiting almost 2 years for this game. There was no way in hell I was going to pay 50 on release day or even 20 (bearing in mind the mixed reviews and public outcry on hidden charges). Purchased on Thursday 11/07/19. Arrived on Saturday 13/07/19. It is the full game and very good, fun filled adventure. Very good graphics too. Tested on my new AMD 5700XT and MSI 1080Ti aero at 4K. My 5700XT gives same fps as the much more expensive 1080Ti. I also noticed my 1080Ti hits 80c, whereas my 5700XT typically doesn’t go above 65c. Use MSI afterburner instead because Radeon Wattman keeps setting my fan speed profile to default low speed and as a result I noticed high junction temps on my 5700XT. I don’t know why this is happening. With MSI afterburner, I set fan speed profile to custom and then turn on automatic mode. Fan speed ramps up in response to higher temperatures and keeps my gpu relatively cool.

    Star Wars Battlefront 2
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is primarily an online multiplayer game although you can set up battles against the computer and also contains a single player campaign. The campaign is split up into two parts (I believe the second part was free DLC).

You begin the campaign as a flying droid (which is a bit strange), and you have to rescue the main character; an Imperial Commander called Iden Versio. You don’t play all missions as her though. On the positive side, this means you get a demo of some of the characters to introduce you to the different abilities and play-styles. The negative is that the characters aren’t as developed as you would want, which means when the time comes for the predictable change in allegiances, it lacks the impact it should.

The multiplayer has quite a few different modes, which usually involve large teams of players battling over some objective, respawning in as a different character when you die. Some of the modes include:

Heroes and Villains is a 4 on 4 battle mode but each round highlights a character from each team that is the target, and it is up to your team to take out the target whilst defending yours. In this mode you play as the primary characters in the film, so the Heroes feature characters like Yoda, Luke Skywalker and Rey, and they will battle against the likes of Darth Vader, Darth Maul, and Emperor Palpatine.

Starfighter Assault features battles in space, so you will be flying craft like Tie Fighters and X-Wings, with the Hero characters being crafts like the Millennium Falcon. The Starfighter battles were decent but felt a bit clunky in some ways. I preferred the standard combat.

    Blast is a team death-match; 8 vs 8, first to 100 kills.

Strike is another 8 vs 8 mode but gives you objectives like arming bombs or capture the flag-style.

Ewok Hunt is quite scary. Storm Troopers have a flash-light and a gun and wander Endor’s moon in the pitch black whilst the Ewok’s hunt them down.

By achieving kills, you level up your characters which powers up your abilities or unlocks new ones to use. Most game types allow you to switch characters, and often you will use different types of troopers; assault, heavy, commander, specialist (sniper). When you achieve a certain amount of battle points, then you are allowed to assume the role of a more unique hero character.

The game was heavily criticised for its pricing model, hiding certain characters behind pay-walls and asking for a ridiculous amount of points in order to unlock them. It seems after the backlash, EA have changed it to a fairer micro-transaction model where character are unlocked from the start (apart from the recently introduced General Grievous), and you just pay/use in-game credits for cosmetic unlockables; skins, taunts and victory poses. You get a some credits for playing each day, obtaining set achievements, daily achievements, and your performance in each match you play.

I’m not great at these types of games but I did wonder if players had a better advantage by having access to abilities I didn’t. I was late to playing this game, and they would already have the advantage of game experience and knowledge of the characters and maps. Having extra abilities as well does skew the difficulty.

The core gameplay is actually very fun, and Star Wars fans will obviously enjoy it. I think it helps to have knowledge of Star Wars so you can quickly recognise who is a threat. There are indicators over your team member’s heads and sometimes enemies, but with the constant switching of sides, it was hard to remember which colour represented my team. There can be times where it is a little too hectic. Some modes allow up to 40 players, and putting them in certain areas means it’s constant laser fire and explosions and it’s hard to work out what is actually going on.

The graphics and sound design is very good, although some maps have a few areas where the lighting is very odd. It could be a bug in the game engine because I have seen similar lighting in FIFA.

Currently, (November 2018) the game is being supported with new content like the new Clone Wars update, and it still has an active fan-base. So newcomers are still fine to join in, but you will have the disadvantage that the majority of players will be at a higher level of experience and skill.

    Graphics and Audio are awesome
Not bad. Graphics are fantastic and so is the audio. Only gripe is it feels more like Battlefield One with a Starwars skin overlayed. Sort of preferred the first game if I’m honest. Other than that the campaign was excellent, you play the sexy Jannina Gavanika who also voices the character. Worth It’s current price

    Best quote posted in-game Cha
Stars Wars Battlefront 2 is without a shadow of a doubt the most demanding multiplayer game on the PC right now. Boasting stunning graphical visuals that are delivered at a breakneck speed of play with a huge amount of background effects to make replaying the same maps over and over again interesting. Strong netcode supports the 20v20 mode of Galactic Assualt.

At 1440p, with 2700X, with DDR4-3400 CL14 with extreme low latency subtimings and AIB RX Vega 56 OC’d the FPS is running between 85-105FPS on the most demanding maps of Galactic Assualt.

Best quote posted in-game Chat: “I thought playing Battlefront One would prepare me for this game, I was wrong”. That breakneck speed of play combined with intelligent map design to bring two large teams of players into close quarter combat has been a hallmark of this franchise; there simply is nothing like it for non-stop action. Just as an example of the breakneck speed: recently, the developers had to slow down the speeds for Starfighter Assault – they simply were moving to fast for the servers!

However, the game’s sales were hurt at the Beta stage by a bizarre decision to make the Heavy Class have slowed movement to counterbalance an increase in health (200 units) which was not a design feature in Star Wars Battlefront 1. Not a great idea, since this primary class, which players will be playing as for long durations of time. Naturally, many new players trying out the game in the free Beta choose the Heavy Class for the higher health units and they reported feeling ill after several hours of gameplay. This stemmed from the slowness of movement compared to the breakneck speed of movement of the other classes (Assualt, Officer and Specialist Classes), weapon firing speeds and background effects. You had a Youtuber playing the free Beta as the Heavy Class saying the game made them feel unwell after several hours of play. You had a Twitch streamer playing as a Heavy who bought the full game release saying the game made them feel ill. Somehow, this problem with Heavy Classes slowed movement slipped through the developers quality assurance process and made it into the full release. Naturally, this reduced the recommendation and referrals of the games amongst the gamer community and led to reduced sales, which was a real shame as those people playing as Assualt or Officer or Specialist could easily play for 7 hours-8 hours very easily and happily.

The Loot Boxes is gone from the game and replaced by cosmetics, but the issue of attrition gameplay was a minor issue in actual gameplay because players were able to spam credits in Arcade mode (7 minutes and 1,600 credits) and Starfighter Assualt (gave 33% more credits than Galactic Assualt).

The best maps to play in Galactic Assualt are: a) Kashyyk; b) Yain 4 c) Naboo; d) Takodana and e) Jakku. Endor is a great map, but the first point needs to be easy to capture by the Rebels and the last point needs to be harder to capture by the Rebels. Crait was very enjoyable at launch, but the recent changes have made it quite dull for the Rebels due to the speeders being too easy to destroy and no longer providing enough protection to the ground troops. The Best maps to play in Starfighter Assualt are a) Fondor; b) D’Qar; c) Unknown Regions.

In current XP level, up system can be accelerated with playing Blast and Heros versus Villians to get maxed out Star Cards. Blast is very enjoyable.

It is a stunning game and a fun game.

    100 + hours
I’m a big star wars fan and enjoyed this game but not as much as I thought I would. I’ve played over 100 hours and my biggest complaint is that once you’ve managed to get enough points for a hero, most of the time the hero’s are already in use and cannot be selected. This is frustrating. Would still recommend the game though as the graphics, sound and music are great. Does need more maps in the clone era, and would be nice if you could play as a droidika on the separatists side.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersStar Wars Battlefront 2 review
Before everybody jumps on the hate train and starts attacking this review for the 5 stars, I would like to mention that I am reviewing the game itself, NOT EA’s decisions.

I have played the game for the past 2 days, and I am more than happy with it. In multiplayer it finds a match in less than 5 seconds, and there is almost no wait time in between games. Although a lot of people have refunded, canceled their purchases there is still a large player-base. Now for the game itself.

This battlefront includes a single player campaign, which I have started progressing slowly. I know most people (hardcore star wars fans) will hate the campaign as it is the new canon, and everything from the expanded universe is not, to some point I do agree with this, but at this point there is nothing that can be done about that. So far the campaign has been fun and interesting, as well it could be challenging if you play at hardest difficulty. By progressing in the campaign you unlock different milestones and challenges, which give you extra Credits, parts, and I believe crates as well, which help you progress your classes and heroes inside the multiplayer. About the graphics. I was left speechless. My 980Ti pushes the game on Ultra without any problems at stable 60 fps. I believe the lower grade cards would achieve that as well (maybe not Ultra but High settings). The game looks as if its almost in real life, the details around the maps are amazing. On each different map there are tons of NPCs which bring back some nostalgia from movie scenes, old games, etc. The gameplay so far has been amazing as well, although as a competitive FPS player, I do find that hit detection sometimes is a bit dodgy (you just jump within cover but bullets still hit you), but that wouldn’t be an issue for the casual player, and does not happen that often. The different game modes, give you plenty of variety in terms of maps, objectives, etc. Each different era, has its different classes. For example if you are playing the Camino map, there will be Clone troopers vs Droids, if you are playing the Jakku map, there will be First Order vs Rebels. All this different models again give you lots of variety, and so far the game hasn’t began to be repetitive, nor boring. I mentioned different modes. The game has the 20 vs 20 mode, has the space battles which are quite amazing after you get the hang of how to fly all the different ships, there is heroes vs villains mode, a smaller deathmatch 8 v 8, and the 10 v 10 close combat mode. Again this gives you a lot of different things to play, and experiment. There are a lot of classes and heroes that you can advance. Now I come to the part where EA got salted a lot in the past week. The microtransactions and hero high prices. So far the microtransactions were disabled, and you cannot “pay 2 win”, I understand that this is a awful practice, and I am against it as well, but then again do not attack the devs, attack the management who makes the decisions (as a developer myself, even if devs want to change something or not implement it, they cannot do anything about it, they just do whatever comes from above them). Lets for a second ignore EA’s bad decisions, even if some people can buy crates, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they will be beast and kill you every time. Yes they might get lucky, and get a rarer starcard but the boost from that is not that huge, and also they will still have to level up by playing in order to activate this starcard. The game is more dependent on skill rather than having the best star cards (I know a lot of people will disagree, but then again are people with Ultrawide monitors cheaters as well? Are people with Ultra High End headsets cheaters for hearing exactly where you are? Are people with high refresh rate monitors cheaters?). While yes the star cards give you some advantage, it is not that huge advantage, and again it depends on one’s skill more than one’s star cards. Another thing about the game is unlocking heroes. I saw a lot of talk about how its impossible to unlock heroes if you dont grind for hours and hours. Well that’s not true. In game there are a lot of challenges, and ways to get credits and spare parts faster. If you are smart enough to open up the challenges page, and see which challenges give you the most credits, go play those modes. In each mode there are plenty of challenges that can be done, and help you unlock those heroes faster. 7 hours in the game, I have already gotten more than 30 000 credits just by playing, and have unlocked both Vader and Skywalker, so any talk of “oh, you have to grind 40 hours just to unlock 1 hero” is just people continuing to salt on what I believe is a great game (again talking about PURE game (graphics, gameplay, story), and not bad EA decisions). I hope that this review was helpful.

Great game, microtransactions have been removed.
Best Star Wars game ever. Buy it with confidence and ignore all the 1 star reviews as EA has now removed all the microtransactions from the game and progression is solely dependant on gameplay.
