Like most pole hedge trimmers, it is a little ungainly to use. However they do their job. Delivered on time.

This tool has made cutting our very large hedge a doddle. It is heavy but I did it in small sections and it was still quick. I’m 5ft 2 with arthritic hands and still managed to use it. Stops me nagging the husband too….win for him!

If you have the right tools for the job you’ll love working.

Would highly recommend even for heavy use.

Efficiently does what one would expect of it, but I should have read earlier reviews about the weight of it. With the motor close to the cutting head it’s rather unwieldy at full extension if one is of ‘a certain age’. I fitted an additional strap (from an old sports bag) and that helped with controlling the weight. It’s OK for the younger and fitter person, but for me it’s not I’m afraid.

The machine itself is absolutely fine, but I’m going to have to look for a lighter machine.

I have a rather large hedge at the front of our house and it needed trimming. I wasn’t happy with the quote I got and decided I would tackle it myself! Having a look around at an extendable trimmer the Terratek seemed great value for money!

I can confirm it did a fabulous job on the hedge allowing me to keep the hedge around 8ft tall but nice and neat too! Our hedge does have rather thin branches I do believe it would struggle on anything over 1cm in diameter. I love that you can tilt the head multiple angles 0, 45, 90 degrees (having a 22 degrees would have been perfect).

It’s not particularly lightweight, unfortunately due to the very nature of the design having to have the motor towards the top is going to make any item like this top heavy. However, im no muscle man, and managed fine.

The only design change I would have made would be to allow you to use the head of the trimmer without the extendable handle attached. It would make it a great 2-in-1 product then but at this price you cannot expect the world.

    Overall I would highly recommend!

Yeah, it’s quite heavy and awkward to use, especially for someone like me with a slight build.

But it sure beats using a ladder and a pair of shears!

I don’t think they could make it any lighter without affecting it’s power, and I wouldn’t want to lose that.

It’s a nice bit of kit, shame I’ll only get to use it a couple of times a year, but great for when I do need it. At least it stores relatively easily.

My neighbour has a large hedge that was overhanging my property and my car. Normally, he would cut it back himself but, unfortunately he is not well enough to do it anymore. I have trimmed it using shears but it is large and quite high (8ft plus). I bought this trimmer for the long reach and after checking the reviews. Firstly, it is quite heavy as some of the reviews state, so my 5’1″ wife probably struggle with it. Some reviewers said the harness does not help but I found if you loop yourself into it and pull it tight, it did take a lot of the weight. It has a strong cutter and went through some thick branches easily. I actually enjoyed using it and it was a great deal easier than using shears. The instructions could have been a little clearer, particular on the harness but I went on-line and checked some images. Apart from that very happy.

All the extendable headgetrimmers I have had or borrowed before have set lengths to extend the cutters. With this headgetrimmer it can be done in extremely tiny amounts, this reducing the “weight” impact of the device. One of my better buys.

For prolonged use, especially when at or nearing full pole extension, it can feel heavy, but this will be the case for any trimmers or cutters. It cuts well, although I would always only cut branches up to 10mm in diameter just to save on wear and tear. Loppers are better for anything thicker. One important thing to be aware of is that the trimmer cannot be used without the pole extension in place so you must be standing at least a pole’s length from the branches that need cutting. The external electrical cable is not detachable and is connected all the way through the pole housing to a socket at the end of the pole where it slots into the trimmer section. I found the harness of very limited use. The electric motor is fairly powerful compared to other electrical trimmers I looked at. I preferred buying this over a fuel powered model (too smelly) or a rechargeable model (limited power). All in all I would certainly recommend this item to anyone who has tall hedges, including privet, beech and leylandii.

I bought this to deal with a cypress leylandii that has reached eves height. It is more powerful than the equivalent battery-operated version and cuts more deeply. That said it is no more easy to wield and at full extension requires really powerful shoulders! However the safety switch operates efficiently and the device is well made and sturdy. I won’t use it often as the battery powered version is more versatile but if you have really dense hedging to trim this would make a good addition to your toolkit.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis appeared to represent the best value of the Trimmers I looked at with a suitable extension length and electric cord. Delivery was quicker than expected due to confusing messages. The User Manual refers to a supplied “Hex Key” and see Figure 2. (Key not found). Manual is comprehensive and helpful. I chose “lightweight” and would struggle with heavier ones. Harness helps. Cutting action good and angle options excellent. When fully extended I was comfortable in use, but mindful of the care needed. I found taking regular breaks for a few minutes to review what I had done and rest helpful.

It does exactly what you would expect it to do. It’s easy to set up, easy to change the angle and easy to use too. Yes it does get a bit heavy, but then again, anything that you are having to hold like this will feel heavy after a while. I cut my hedge, a 3 meter high 30 meter long and 2 meters deep copper birch over a day, with regular breaks to clean up and rest my arms. Last year I paid someone 100 to do it for me. I think buying this was worth the money. Plus I got a great feeling of accomplishment doing it myself

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThese hedge trimmers are always hard to use and you have to use the strap and wedge the pole against your thigh to get it balanced. It’s heavy but no heavier than others I’ve used and once you find the right position it works well. It cuts better than my old one (probably sharper) and the angle adjusts more easily so, so far, pretty good. however, I really wouldn’t buy one of these if your back is weak and you’re a bit of a couch potato!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI was nearly put off by other reviews saying it was way too heavy but to be honest I found it about right for the size of trimmer, if you expect an electric motor and drive and all to be light weight then you will be looking for a long time.

Easy to assemble, easy to extend and lock in the extended length and the cutters turn by the push of a button, does what it says on the tin as they say.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersGot this for the high hedges and bushes around our garden, seems to cut through everything but some of the thickest branches with ease. Adjusting the reach is pretty quick and easy, however mind your fingers, if you hold it wrongly when you do adjust it I could see a potential for trapped fingers if the head of the device slams down. Assembly out of the box was quite straight forwards too. One complaint about this is the strap which while it does help support the weight and help with control can be awkward to adjust and does tend to get in the way a bit- nice thought but poorly executed. If you do get one of these you will also need some long handle loppers for tackling thicker branches. Also recommend getting a decent extension cable, the cable supplied isn’t really long enough for most gardens.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe trimmers are great to reach our tall hedge the only problems is that I thought it could be reduced to a hand held size so it would be easy to dismantle it to cut the lower part of the hedge. It’s awkward using the long handle to cut the lower half so thinking of buying an smaller trimmer which defeated the object of getting this one.

Golden Review Award: 28 From Our UsersI found this trimmer easy to assemble, with a nice long mains lead. I’ve used it on hedges and small trees, and its worked fine. Yes it is heavy to hold, but then all makes and types of this style of extending trimmer are heavy, after all they have a big motor at the end of a long pole! I tried putting the support strap around my body to take the weight, but found it more of a hindrance than help, restricting my movement. Just holding the strap and pole in one hand, whilst operating the trigger in the other, worked best for me. Its quick and simple to adjust the angle of the cutting blade making it a versatile machine. I find giving my arms a bit of a rest every ten minutes is the best way to work. The whole machine seems well made and cuts small branches if you don’t exceed the recommended thickness. The long reach when the pole is fully extended is a huge help, but obviously at its full extent is when the most effort and strength in your arms is required. Not for the weak or fragile gardener, but I’ve found it a big help and great value.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt’s true that the motor head is certainy not light and when fully extended is difficult to maneuovre. However as an ex-flag bearer I found the best way was to fasten the shoulder strap into the same hole near the pistol grip and not as directed, put it over your shoulder/head and then lift the cutter head in the air and place the pistol grip firmly in the groin (as you do when raising/lowering a flag) then you are relieved of the weight and can concentrate on controlling the cutting head.
It does make the job of cutting a twelve foot high dense Leylandii hedge a whole lot easier but you need to be quite strong to use it.
