Our Story
Way back in 1979 Dr Roger Mugford, (now a world renowned animal psychologist) founded The Company of Animals as a vehicle to sell his inventions.
The Company is based on a 100 acre working farm in Surrey (England) and is just minutes away from the M25 and M3 with strategic connections to Heathrow and Gatwick airports.The site is also home to the Training and Behaviour Centre, which was also founded by Roger in 1979. The Training and Behaviour Centre is now regarded as one of the best in the country; specialising in all levels of dog training, offering behaviour consultations on veterinary referral as well as resolving legal issues about pets, in and out of court. This gives The Company Of Animals the unique advantage of being able to constantly research and develop new products to help resolve pet-related behaviour and training problems, as well as having a great base in which to test new designs and principles of animal training.
The primary drive for our company has always been to develop products that help owners and their pets find an enriched life and to improve animal welfare. Brilliant, well made, stands up to being pulled over rough terrain, washed numerous times and still looks good. Used numerous times with pup for woodland walks so he gets a bit freedom but we can easily grab/stand on line when goes too far or other dogs/people approaching.
Served its purpose but in retrospect found it difficult to reel in as it is so long. I feel a shorter lead might be preferable to avoid getting wrapped around objects such as posts or trees; also it gets very muddy and wet if used outside so difficult to carry home. Best used in a long garden.
Good quality product with a nice feel on the hand. I have put a small hand grip onto the end just for peace of mind and it’s great for letting a young pup have a bit of freedom to explore without loosing control.

Bought this for when we look after our daughters dog. She’s getting old, very deaf so can’t hear us call her. This lead gives her plenty of freedom to do what she loves best…..sniffing around all over our local dog field. Definitely recommend.

Does the job as a long line but would be even better if it had a D ring at the end so you could clip it to the harness and use it half length easily.
Very strong and great for walking a big dog who can’t be let of lead but who wants to explore as we walk.
Strong enough for my 18 kg dog. I assume the irritating lack of end loop is for safety: perhaps the logic is that it’s better to lose the dog temporarily than break one’s wrist.
Fantastic product. Used this to recall train my lurcher puppy. A nice strong line, good quality fabric and the length is fantastic. I always seemed to be carrying spare line as this seems like it goes on for ages! Only thing that would make this better would be for it to have a proper handle stitched in professionally, as I had to tie the end to make a makeshift handle.
Used for new rescue dog to improve recall. Great item. Only downside is no loop in the end. Only a minor gripe as I tied one into it.
Nice quality but unfortunately not suitable for my dog as not as heavy duty as I had thought. gave it away to a friend with a smaller dog. Suit smaller dog (king charles spaniel size etc)
I use this item for my dog to get a lovely long run around the field. Its a strong thick material. Although it doesn’t have a handle, so you have to wrap it round your hand. Great price. Would recommend if you have a hyper pooch like mine who loves to run!
Thinking outside the box. My cat loves his new lead comes everywhere with me. So last time we were away in hotel he went across damp grass while i kept my feet dry perfect have both 5m and 10m
Very good and useful product, doesn’t rot, or knot whilst using, brilliant while trying to get a good recall.. Just the right length for recall for a puppy, we tied knots in it then trailed it behind our dog then stepped on it to catch him if necessary, but advise dog wears a harness, and undo knots when do, and dry line when finished too..
We’ve just adopted a dog whose recall isn’t very good. With this, though, she’s improving and it gives me peace of mind, particularly with livestock about on the moor.

Great lead much better than those extendable ones you can give your dog as little or as much length as you like only fault is there are no handholds in it not even at the end hence the 4 rather than 5 stars
These long leads are brilliant. I have a small dog and cannot let him off the lead as he has bolted out of our local park. This lead is the next best thing. He has a lot of freedom yet I am still in charge. I certainly am glad I have this.
Great lead for training , or if your dog is like mine you can’t let off he can still have a great run about and you know you will get him back.
If you have a dog of a breed that’s considered very independent, is easily distracted or has a strong hunting instinct this is a good way to allow them to run free while still being able to control them if needed.
fast service feels soft to the touch as yet have not used it as pup is only just getting started on walks.

Brought this to give our staffy puppy a bit of freedom while training his recall, we did have to tie a couple of knots in or would have slipped through hands a doesnt have a handle which would be better if did
We have a 10 month old Jack Russell Yorkie cross. I haven’t got him to recall yet so the long lead is a terrific mid step from ordinary lead to being off lead. The next step will be to leave the long lead attached but to drop it and let him run but hopefully thinking he is still on the lead
This 10m line is great for training my German Shepherd Dog who is 8 months old now. She can run freely yet I can have instant hold of her when necessary. Brilliant for recall training amongst other things.
Does what it says on the tin. Great training lead. (Just incase you don’t realise there is no loop for you to hold on this lead, but I am sure you could create one by just tying a knot if you wanted one.)
I was reluctant to let my puppy off the lead, and this worked well as a compromise. He easily drags it around, and even if I let it go it’s pretty easy to chanse the end and step on it. Can be dangerously tanglesome to unwary by-standers though!
Sort of like a lunge line for a dog. Not good as a substitute for a lead though. Too long, too heavy for that.

I Like it – but don’t feel any emotional connection to I so can’t say I Love it but it’s exactly what I wanted when I ordered it.
Clix lead found to be as described, makes walking the dog (Ludo) much easier. He can wander quite a way without me having to chase after him.
Excellent item – a leading rein was recommended to me by the puppy trainer as I was nervous about letting her off the lead in case she didn’t come back when called. This gives the puppy freedom to roam in places where I don’t feel it safe enough to let her off lead eg walking along cliffs or in parks with gates onto a main road.
We have a lively puppy but found this too difficult to use – she got all tied up in it and was more interested in playing with the long lead than anything else. In the hands of much more skilled dog handlers or a less frisky puppy, I’m sure the lead would be excellent.
Haven’t had cause to use this yet, light weight and soft to handle. Catch’s appear to be a little smaller than i thought.
This long lead allows my Patterdale Terrier to wander with freedom, whilst giving me the security of not having him run after other objects (he is very curious of anything that moves). I’ve tied a loop half way along to give me the 5m option, as he enjoys being in the open plan front garden with me so again he’s harnessed to the lead and can’t run off.
on hindsight this product was too long for what we needed it for, but that was our fault, not the product. be aware that on a wet day its a pain trying to reel it in! the itemwas of good quality but just too long for our dog!
Just the right length for letting the young dog walk or run around freely. However, I would have like the lead material to be a little thicker, possibly some padding so when the dog pulls, the lead does not tighten too much in the hand. Overall, an excellent product.
Read up on different leads and think this ticks all the boxes! Will allow my puppy to roam freely until his recall is perfected! Looked at the retractable leads but believe these only encourage your dog to pull. Very quick and efficient delivery too! Thanks
Really good value and much cheaper than shops. Long enough for an average garden and good for training. Would be really good with a handle though
This 10m recall lead is a must for recall training. I could let my puppy run free but still have control to stop her if she bolted. I dont think she even noticed she was attached to a lead!
Bought this for my 2 little dogs (I walk them on one lead) and I don’t let them off leash for fear of terrible recall lol Used to have an extending lead but wanted more control and this lovely long line gives it!
Doesn’t give you painful lead burn like some cheaper versions can do. I made a loop at the end just for ease of use for me and I can drop the lead and step on it if they run too far!! The dogs love the freedom and I love the control and safety.

Our cocker spaniel drags this behind him and it gives us a chance to stand on the lead if we are trying to stop him.
it is a soft type of webbing and ideal.
I got this to help me with my recall training of my 1 year old labrador, it takes time but the training line has proved to be very useful.
Takes a bit of getting use to … for me not the dog lol …. his recall is brilliant now … and he does act as though he’s not on a lead …. now I feel happy about letting him off the lead when safe to do so and he comes back on first call …. follow the instructions that come with it … you can’t go wrong
Great product. Its enabled us to get a rescue dog who had no training and a rotten past to come when we call him instead of literally running away.

A firm sturdy lead it is just right for long line training. I took it to a training session and the trainer said it was exactly right for the job.
A good, strong product needed for dog recall training, I would recommend using this product to achieve good, fast results.
What I like about this product is the length of lead which allows my dog plenty of room to run around. Being a small dog it seems he has more freedom however, for a much bigger dog it probably wouldn’t be enough. What made me buy this lead over an extendable lead is the fact it is named a `training lead’ and stated that it came with a training guide. I was disappointed with the guide as it was tiny and just stated a couple of things to try with the lead, I expected a bit more. Another thing I liked about this lead was that it thick and more durable than an extendable lead, especially for dogs which pull. One other bad point about the lead is that it is a bit of a pain to carry round as it is just one long lead.
This product is fantastic. It was recommended to me from a dog trainer and has been the best thing I have bough. I can now walk my dog in comfort and control!

Far better than I thought it would be although a sewn hand loop would have been good, absolutely brilliant for my naughty dog who cant be let off, nice wide material, dries quickly, seems good and strong!

I think a bit of practice is needed as the dog got it all tangled up as he kept returning back and forth. a good hard wearing product but got wet on bad weather days and needed to be hung up to dry.
Our Littler dog loves running free so when we are on the downs she thinks she is off lead.We know she’s not.
The second one I have bought . The first one still going strong after 4 years. I much prefer them to the ones that rewind into a plastic handle when taking my two dogs out to open places/beach I do not know. I have however added a hook and ring at the plain end as this suits my own use of the line.
My cocker spaniel puppy loves to run and I don’t! This lead solves the problem, its made of strong fabric but it’s gentle on your hands. It gives your puppy the freedom to explore but gives you the ability to control. It’ is really effective for recall training. My only criticism is it’s a bit difficult to wash but that is a minor issue. Would recommend and definitely buy another one.
It’s soft , as it’s nylon (well not leather) it doesn’t get so heavy if raining and washable. I use it for my cocker spaniel who has terrible recall , the aim was for him to run around with the longer lead but he has got clever and just runs faster but it’s still my intention! I still use it though in the park and often even for pavement walks as it’s easy to wind round your hand for a shorter lead . It arrived very quickly and I am very pleased with it.

I think genetically ‘towing’ dogs like either strenuous exercise or being secured and mine is very relaxed when on this line after exercise. He has never tried to chew it or remove it and being tied up seems to remove responsibility from him for having to ‘defend’ the property which can get quite tedious with a fifty-two kilo dog!
Absolute godsend for my Staffy whos now one. Had this since he was about 6 months. We have got recall down but if a rabbitt or pheasant happens to come along…forget it :/ This saves any embarrassment or loose puppy galloping headlong into the woods and hurting himself. Also gives him enough run around room as well so he gets the excercise he needs
What a useful bit of kit. My male border terrier will chase absolutely anything, and living amongst farmland teeming with rabbits and hares can be a nightmare! This line is great, very comfortable in the hand, and allows him to run around and exercise in our field with quite a bit of freedom.

This product is well made and has already been usefull for taking the dog into the forest where there are horses. Training will happen as the weather gets better, but there has already been an improvement.

All I can say is that the line is comfy, long and worth it. The only downer is the opposite end to the dog – no loop, but after 10 minutes careful sewing with thick black nylon, then heat sealing, it’s perfect for training and walks with a Collie I daren’t let off the leash yet…

Got this as we are in the middle of traing our Pointer puppy. Helps when the park is very busy and alot of distractions like birds and other dogs to chase around..
It took a while in receiving the product and the packaging was all ripped but the contents were okay.

Works a treat. Easy to keep clean, soak in bowl of hot soapy water. Good for small breeds and well trained dogs. Mine likes to take a run and then pull you off your feet.
I train dogs so need long lines to demonstrate recall training. These last a good few years and I just needed a new one to add to my collection of well-worn ones!

I love this lead. It is light & does the job that it is made for wonderfully. It gives you the peace of mind that you can catch your dog or in my case puppy easily. It has not as yet, got tangled around any bushes, yes it does get tangled on occasions around the dogs leg, but they soon learn to lift the appropriate leg to free themselves & because the lead is soft it does not cut into the skin either of the dog or the person holding the end when required. Dries quickly easy to wash. Great!!!

good product but it has no handle its just straight so the dog can easliy pull it out of your hand so you have to knot the end to fashion your own handle but besides that a good strong lead

This is useful for practicing recall with our dog. The long length is very practical and is easy to pull and coil up afterwards
Perfect bit of kit for recall training my Beaffy pup and for walks in non-enclosed public places.
Supplied hand loop free so I was able to stitch custom handles at 2ft for short lead and heel training, 4ft for normal pavement walking and then the huge 10m for letting loose and running with the dog which was not easy for me in ankle deep mud but the lead coped perfectly. Mud just wipes off and the water doesnt really absorb so the line never gets too heavy. Very happy with both the product and the service, have already re-used the seller to buy a dog flap!
I was advised to buy this as our rescue dog needs some recall training. This works extremely well. It gives the dog a bit of freedom but you still retain control.
