Our Story
Way back in 1979 Dr Roger Mugford, (now a world renowned animal psychologist) founded The Company of Animals as a vehicle to sell his inventions.
The Company is based on a 100 acre working farm in Surrey (England) and is just minutes away from the M25 and M3 with strategic connections to Heathrow and Gatwick airports.The site is also home to the Training and Behaviour Centre, which was also founded by Roger in 1979. The Training and Behaviour Centre is now regarded as one of the best in the country; specialising in all levels of dog training, offering behaviour consultations on veterinary referral as well as resolving legal issues about pets, in and out of court. This gives The Company Of Animals the unique advantage of being able to constantly research and develop new products to help resolve pet-related behaviour and training problems, as well as having a great base in which to test new designs and principles of animal training.

Clix long line 10m
I use this item for my dog to get a lovely long run around the field. Its a strong thick material. Although it doesn’t have a handle, so you have to wrap it round your hand. Great price. Would recommend if you have a hyper pooch like mine who loves to run!
used this to train both dogs recall. nylon so wear gloves as when they take off it can cause friction burns.. did not happen to me but i know people who were not carefull. it’s good and strong and does the job. good price. arrived on time. would recomend
Could not live without this. I always use this when going to new parks etc where my dog is not familiar so he can still explore but still be a safe distance to me. Yes if there are any trees etc then fully expect to get tangled. It does knot especially when put into the washing machine. But i just love the confidence i have with my dog still on the lead but able to run around. Only downside is there is no handle on this. DO NOT wrap this around your leg! I hope i’m the only idiot to do this and ended up flat on my back being dragged along in the mud when my dog chased a squirrell. I swear i heard it laugh. This lead is also great for recall training. If you have a large dog and are using it as just a long lead you can couple it with the gentle leader or halti for added security. Fast delivery.

Very good and useful produc
Very good and useful product, doesn’t rot, or knot whilst using, brilliant while trying to get a good recall.. Just the right length for recall for a puppy, we tied knots in it then trailed it behind our dog then stepped on it to catch him if necessary, but advise dog wears a harness, and undo knots when do, and dry line when finished too..
Relief
We’ve just adopted a dog whose recall isn’t very good. With this, though, she’s improving and it gives me peace of mind, particularly with livestock about on the moor.

These long leads are brilliant. I have a small dog and cannot let him off the lead as he has bolted out of our local park. This lead is the next best thing. He has a lot of freedom yet I am still in charge. I certainly am glad I have this.
Good quality lead. The right length for a puppy.
I’ve taken the beagle on several walks with this lead. It seems strong and sturdy. Doesn’t come with a handle, so I tied a knot in the end as another reviewer suggested. I have a 30 metre tracking line for my dog too, and this 10 metre one is much more manageable. Easy to wind back up and gives the perfect distance between you and the pup. The lead itself isn’t just those nylon tapes like a lot of the cheap leads, it’s a lot thicker and heavier (that’s better in my opinion).

Could be a lifesave
If you have a dog of a breed that’s considered very independent, is easily distracted or has a strong hunting instinct this is a good way to allow them to run free while still being able to control them if needed.
Usefull bit of ki
My puppy loves it she has got the freedom and can train without the worry of running off until she is recalled trained, I have been using a horse lunge line for same purpose but this one is much lighter and more dog friendly even though she got hold of it and chewed it I will be getting another one.just have to be a bit cautious that your dog doesn’t take off get to the end and hurt themselves.my puppy did just that and was whipped backwards hurting herself but she won’t do that again in a hurry.well worth the money ..
This is great for the price & certainly much cheaper & longer lasting than the retractable leads you can buy.
I did, as one of the other customers recommended tie a few loops as hand holds in it so I could easily grab hold if needed. I also don’t take this lead off while over the park, I just let it trail on the floor so that if my dog does try to dart off when I’ve told him not to I can just stand on the lead instead of running all over the park to try to get the lead back on.
If it does get full of mud I just pop it in the washing machine with a normal was or if it gets wet I just hang it up somewhere to dry.
It is a little awkward to carry the entire thing but don’t mind that too much.
I would definitely recommend this for practising recall.

Good, solid long training lead
This lead is strong, sturdy and padded, and is great quality. 10m is very long, and helps well with recall training or just allowing a dog that can’t go off-leash pace to his own thing whilst you still have control. Only down-side is that it has no end loop (but you can make your own by folding the end over and then trying it around itself). Use it all the time for our 2yo Staffy dog (who is on the taller side of typical breed size and is pretty strong) and it can take his trying to run off on it and chewing it without any problems!
Wanted our Labrador to be able to wander in and out of back door into our garden to sun herself but without being able to “accidentally” chase neighbour’s cat into busy main road at the end of our drive! The material is good quality and does not seem to have become mouldy or stained with outdoor use in about a year. The line is always outside. However, we are always be careful to keep it dry under the porch and I’m not sure how long it would have lasted if left out in the rain. Would recommend to anyone who wants a long line for their canine animal companion.

Safer than a whistle
We have a 10 month old Jack Russell Yorkie cross. I haven’t got him to recall yet so the long lead is a terrific mid step from ordinary lead to being off lead. The next step will be to leave the long lead attached but to drop it and let him run but hopefully thinking he is still on the lead
Great line.
This 10m line is great for training my German Shepherd Dog who is 8 months old now. She can run freely yet I can have instant hold of her when necessary. Brilliant for recall training amongst other things.

Does what it says on the tin. Great training lead. (Just incase you don’t realise there is no loop for you to hold on this lead, but I am sure you could create one by just tying a knot if you wanted one.)
Feedome, yet a fallback
I was reluctant to let my puppy off the lead, and this worked well as a compromise. He easily drags it around, and even if I let it go it’s pretty easy to chanse the end and step on it. Can be dangerously tanglesome to unwary by-standers though!
Sort of like a lunge line for a dog. Not good as a substitute for a lead though. Too long, too heavy for that.

Clix Dog Lead
Clix lead found to be as described, makes walking the dog (Ludo) much easier. He can wander quite a way without me having to chase after him.
Best puppy purchase
Excellent item – a leading rein was recommended to me by the puppy trainer as I was nervous about letting her off the lead in case she didn’t come back when called. This gives the puppy freedom to roam in places where I don’t feel it safe enough to let her off lead eg walking along cliffs or in parks with gates onto a main road.
Good quality, but not for us
We have a lively puppy but found this too difficult to use – she got all tied up in it and was more interested in playing with the long lead than anything else. In the hands of much more skilled dog handlers or a less frisky puppy, I’m sure the lead would be excellent.

This long lead allows my Patterdale Terrier to wander with freedom, whilst giving me the security of not having him run after other objects (he is very curious of anything that moves). I’ve tied a loop half way along to give me the 5m option, as he enjoys being in the open plan front garden with me so again he’s harnessed to the lead and can’t run off.

on hindsight this product was too long for what we needed it for, but that was our fault, not the product. be aware that on a wet day its a pain trying to reel it in! the itemwas of good quality but just too long for our dog!

good strong lead, I use this lead whenever were in fields, great for giving you the confidence to practice recalls and stays outside, still looks like new! no signs of wear at all! I personally prefer it to a flexi lead! Absolutely NOT a fan of those!!! This is much gentler on the dogs neck! I’m using mine at the moment to at least let my boy have his freedom and be a dog! But, be able to control the scavenging!! As we have food intolerance issues 🙁
Excellent training lead
Just the right length for letting the young dog walk or run around freely. However, I would have like the lead material to be a little thicker, possibly some padding so when the dog pulls, the lead does not tighten too much in the hand. Overall, an excellent product.

Read up on different leads and think this ticks all the boxes! Will allow my puppy to roam freely until his recall is perfected! Looked at the retractable leads but believe these only encourage your dog to pull. Very quick and efficient delivery too! Thanks

Bought this for my 2 little dogs (I walk them on one lead) and I don’t let them off leash for fear of terrible recall lol Used to have an extending lead but wanted more control and this lovely long line gives it!
Doesn’t give you painful lead burn like some cheaper versions can do. I made a loop at the end just for ease of use for me and I can drop the lead and step on it if they run too far!! The dogs love the freedom and I love the control and safety.

I got this to help me with my recall training of my 1 year old labrador, it takes time but the training line has proved to be very useful.
Does the job
I have a beautiful 19month old whippet who moves at speed over 30 miles an hour and isn’t always easy to catch. This Clix long lead puts my mind at rest knowing that I can catch Willow a little easier than just with a normal length lead. I have been using it for sometime and wish I had known about it earlier. It could have saved me a lot of worry and effort running after her. Would definitely recommend.

I like this puppy lead
What I like about this product is the length of lead which allows my dog plenty of room to run around. Being a small dog it seems he has more freedom however, for a much bigger dog it probably wouldn’t be enough. What made me buy this lead over an extendable lead is the fact it is named a `training lead’ and stated that it came with a training guide. I was disappointed with the guide as it was tiny and just stated a couple of things to try with the lead, I expected a bit more. Another thing I liked about this lead was that it thick and more durable than an extendable lead, especially for dogs which pull. One other bad point about the lead is that it is a bit of a pain to carry round as it is just one long lead.

Great tracking/training lead, I never need to worry about it hurting him should he get tangled unlike my other one, which gave him a rope burn under his leg…. it’s was easy to use and so far have not managed to get tangled up in knots or stuck around trees, takes a bit of practice as I had never needed one before, but after a few mins, you soon get the hang of it, I would however recommend gloves if your dog likes to pull hard when excited. My boy is typical of his breed (Lurcher/Saluki cross) who will always be excitable so I now wear fingerless gloves to protect my skin from burns…. they hurt!!

I think a bit of practice is needed as the dog got it all tangled up as he kept returning back and forth. a good hard wearing product but got wet on bad weather days and needed to be hung up to dry.

The second one I have bought . The first one still going strong after 4 years. I much prefer them to the ones that rewind into a plastic handle when taking my two dogs out to open places/beach I do not know. I have however added a hook and ring at the plain end as this suits my own use of the line.

Great product - every puppy owner should have one
My cocker spaniel puppy loves to run and I don’t! This lead solves the problem, its made of strong fabric but it’s gentle on your hands. It gives your puppy the freedom to explore but gives you the ability to control. It’ is really effective for recall training. My only criticism is it’s a bit difficult to wash but that is a minor issue. Would recommend and definitely buy another one.
Have ditched the retractable lead for this one
It’s soft , as it’s nylon (well not leather) it doesn’t get so heavy if raining and washable. I use it for my cocker spaniel who has terrible recall , the aim was for him to run around with the longer lead but he has got clever and just runs faster but it’s still my intention! I still use it though in the park and often even for pavement walks as it’s easy to wind round your hand for a shorter lead . It arrived very quickly and I am very pleased with it.

I think genetically ‘towing’ dogs like either strenuous exercise or being secured and mine is very relaxed when on this line after exercise. He has never tried to chew it or remove it and being tied up seems to remove responsibility from him for having to ‘defend’ the property which can get quite tedious with a fifty-two kilo dog!
A God send for training/walks
Absolute godsend for my Staffy whos now one. Had this since he was about 6 months. We have got recall down but if a rabbitt or pheasant happens to come along…forget it :/ This saves any embarrassment or loose puppy galloping headlong into the woods and hurting himself. Also gives him enough run around room as well so he gets the excercise he needs

I bought this item as I was having a few issues with my GSP puppy “bogging off” she would recall perfectly for so long and as soon as she was confident in an area, she would bog off for upto 45 mins at a time!! I bought this long line to control her excercise and to retain total control over her. I have found this to be invaluable while retraining her Recall, together with the Pippa Mattinson Total Recall book.

What a useful bit of kit. My male border terrier will chase absolutely anything, and living amongst farmland teeming with rabbits and hares can be a nightmare! This line is great, very comfortable in the hand, and allows him to run around and exercise in our field with quite a bit of freedom.

Great training lead
This gives us peace of mind when we take our Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Chesney out. We normally have to keep him on lead as he thinks he’s top dog and sets to prove it when meeting up with other dogs!
Once up the field we can put this long lead on and let him run about to his heart’s content chasing the ball we throw! We can quickly catch the lead if we see another dog in the distance and restrain him till they’ve passed.

I have had one of these leads for a couple of years -daily use – and this was to replace it as the catch was unreliable. I really like these longer leads as they give you control when training recall/other exercises.

All I can say is that the line is comfy, long and worth it. The only downer is the opposite end to the dog – no loop, but after 10 minutes careful sewing with thick black nylon, then heat sealing, it’s perfect for training and walks with a Collie I daren’t let off the leash yet…

Stops running off
Got this as we are in the middle of traing our Pointer puppy. Helps when the park is very busy and alot of distractions like birds and other dogs to chase around..
10 meters in longer than you think.
This is a nice simple long lead.
Its very soft and light for its length, with a fairly large clip on the end.
It comes all coiled up in a circle, which is impossible to keep in that state while in use, be it is easy to coil back up again after use.
The length of the lead is very good in training the dog for recall while actually off lead. As if the run you have enough time to catch the end. To which is my only negative point. The end of the lead simple ends, as if it was cut. By which I don’t mean there are loose threads, just simply that there is nothing to stop the lead pulling through your hand if the dog was going at some speed.
Its never been a problem for me, so may be I’m think up things that wont really happen.

I love this lead. It is light & does the job that it is made for wonderfully. It gives you the peace of mind that you can catch your dog or in my case puppy easily. It has not as yet, got tangled around any bushes, yes it does get tangled on occasions around the dogs leg, but they soon learn to lift the appropriate leg to free themselves & because the lead is soft it does not cut into the skin either of the dog or the person holding the end when required. Dries quickly easy to wash. Great!!!

Found this item invaluable both for tying pup up in busy places and teaching recall. Having a border collie it likes to run fast and it took a while for us to have the courage to release it. This line had lots of use but be careful when using it as a trailing lead for easy catching of the dog – it can twist around people’s ankles and other objects – so only use in clear, open spaces. Moved on to Halti training lead for follow up training.

i bought this to train a very boisterous cocker spaniel and its great the lead itself is very sturdy so i tend to use it wound up and when we get to field let it all go and good for recall training
the price is fab too after seeing identical in a local pet store chain for nearly double the price !!( i wont buy anything there in future its too expensive)

This is useful for practicing recall with our dog. The long length is very practical and is easy to pull and coil up afterwards
A must have for active dog owners
Perfect bit of kit for recall training my Beaffy pup and for walks in non-enclosed public places.
Supplied hand loop free so I was able to stitch custom handles at 2ft for short lead and heel training, 4ft for normal pavement walking and then the huge 10m for letting loose and running with the dog which was not easy for me in ankle deep mud but the lead coped perfectly. Mud just wipes off and the water doesnt really absorb so the line never gets too heavy. Very happy with both the product and the service, have already re-used the seller to buy a dog flap!
Clix Recall Long Line
I was advised to buy this as our rescue dog needs some recall training. This works extremely well. It gives the dog a bit of freedom but you still retain control.
We bought this item to teach our young dog to behave well when out and come back when called. It’s a lovely strong lead and soft on the hands
