A bit too tall really which was quite a surprise as I’m 6’3″ but I guess that’s my fault!
This is an excellent bit of kit if you need to sit down occasionally when needs demand. It is very light yet takes my old 6’5″, 19st frame with no problem. Expensive but I couldn’t find anything else that was up to the job.
This is simply brilliant. I use it for busking, and it’s lightness and portability have freed me up to play almost anywhere I feel I won’t be lynched.
It is very easily erected, sturdy and comfortable. I might play in one spot for up to two hours, and I’m in my mid 60s, but I’ve never felt sore or uncomfortable yet. Size wise, I am 5′ 10″, about 10 and half stone, and I find the 45 cm height one perfect.
It comes in a mesh bag and can be slung over your back, and have Walkstool will busk … !
Be sure to get the Comfort model in whatever height you buy, for these are still made in Sweden (basic models made in China now), and the quality, strength and durability are obvious. Ok, it’s a pricier option but they are so worth it.
After I had knee surgery, I found that I could not stand for long periods of time at first. However, I wanted to get back into all of my activities. So, I found this stool on Amazon. I LOVE IT! I attend festivals, outdoor concerts, pop culture conventions like Dragon Con in Atlanta, etc. Lots of places where there usually isn’t a place to sit, or chairs/seating are a premium. This is perfect. It’s fairly lightweight. I carry it over my shoulder. Takes up very little room. Has collapsible legs that fold up like a tripod and fits into it’s own little carry bag. Very much like the fold up bag camp chairs. I got the 26 inch in height. Because I did not want to have to squat down to sit (knee surgery). The seat is almost like a bicycle seat. You “straddle” it. Make sure you try the stool out first – sitting down, getting up, etc. It’s not like a chair. It’s a stool. But for a portable seat when you need one – you can’t beat it!
I love these stools. They are comfortable, and easy to carry. When I have it, I can hike a distance, stop and rest when need be, without having to sit on the ground and struggle to get up. This is my third; each of them has had unexpected wear and tear, though I take care of things really well. Before, when I contacted the company about it, with another size, the owner wanted photos, which I supplied, and then he just disappeared. I thought he might make an adjustment, but he didn’t. I don’t use these more than an hour or so a week at best. This one, one of the legs became detached without warning, while I was carrying it. I am sure glad it didn’t happen while I was sitting on it! Warning: the simple, less expensive one is manufactured in China. I don’t think this model is, but it is still not very durable.
As advertised and reviewed, this stool is heavy duty and is appropriate for someone very heavy! I am yet to fully evaluate this chair, but I am removing 1 star already for 2 cons:
1) The stool is not lightweight when you already carry a heavy load. I would prefer half a s heavier with half the weight limit, but I didn’t see such one offered with good reviews.
2) If the carrying bag is not used (and I would prefer just to attach the stool to my backpack), then the bottom legs can slide out by gravity – they can’t be fixed in place (like a tripod leg), to my surprise. I can wrap the legs in velcro to prevent sliding, but at this price I would expect that the legs are not loose!
Man sitzt bequem.
his is an amazing bit of kit. Use it everyday for work and it is still going strong over a year later, much superior to anything similar and well worth the extra money paid for i
had one for over 10 years, which finally gave up the ghost and collapsed, so immediately bought this one. Great stool and the perfect height for sports photography
Pros:
It’s of excellent quality (hence its somewhat high price), and it seems incredibly sturdy. It’s sufficiently stable and comfortable. The red tabs that pop out to hold the legs in place when extended seem solid, not at all like they could collapse, as one reviewer mentioned.
Cons:
Contrary to questioning the red tabs’ holding capability, I find it challenging to push the tabs in enough that I can retract the legs. And, although the product description says you can use it without the legs extended, I don’t understand how that would work because when retracted, the legs end where they cross…so wouldn’t the stool just fall right over? 🙂 (I decided not to test this.)
Other comments:
Perhaps it’s a shame that instead of offering various stools of different heights, the manufacturer didn’t create just one model with various height settings. Of course, any difficulty pushing the red tabs in could then come into play multiple times, both when extending and when retracting the legs!
I’m 5’3” and kind of wish I’d chosen the lowest stool (the 45 cm) instead of the 55 cm. For short periods, I’d prefer the higher one, but for longer periods the shorter one.
I got this for resting on hikes and for attending rallies or protests. But mostly I got it for waiting in lines…like the one for DMV services at my local AAA office (where instead of using a take-a-number-and-be-seated or page/mobile notification approach, they torture their customers by making them stand in a roped wait-line, even though it takes an average of 10 minutes to serve each customer and the line is typically at least 10 people long…my rant for the day).
High quality, lightweight, comfortable stools ideal for everyday use. These stools are built to a very high quality out of aircraft grade aluminium so are lovely and light to carry, yet incredibly robust and strong. I love this product so much I bought a second for my wife.
An absolute Godsend for my wife when we go on our weekend walks. Very light and compact…but sturdy too…highly recommended.
Like many artists, I’m also a gadget-junky, intrigued by the newest, latest, niftiest, coolest brushes and watercolor papers and whatever. Bottom line is I’ve made plenty of purchases of things to enhance my art-making experience. Some things have been worth the money and others get used once or twice, sit on a shelf and eventually get given away to one of my students. Ugh. It totally happens. I’m happy to say that this stool has been one of the best useful tools I’ve purchased. First off, it’s compact and fits in a shoulder bag or small backpack. I work on location a lot, and finding a comfortable place to sit while I’m sketching or painting can be a challenge. Boulders – if they’re present at all – are irregular and (literally!) a pain in the butt. Secondly, this design is remarkably stable. The only two occasions I’ve found it not to work well have been (1) on soft soil – the tripod legs will sink into the ground when weight is placed on the seat, and (2) on uneven ground – because the legs are not adjustable (like a camera tripod), the lengths are constant. That means uneven ground (think: the bank next to a stream) places the seat on an angle, pitching the user forward, sideways, or backwards. I couldn’t make things work in those situations. The construction is excellent, it folds and stows easily, and although the various models may seem pricey I feel like it will be durable enough to last. Meanwhile, I’ve had other, cheaper products that buckled after only a few uses.
I’m 6’2″ and 200 pounds with what I would describe as normal proportions – my legs aren’t unusually long or short. I purchased the 18 inch model and it is just about a perfect fit for me.
Very light and compact. Easy to setup and pack away. Surprisingly comfortable and ideal for us Timelapse photographers who need a safe and reliable comfy seat for a couple of hours far from our creature comforts.
I bought this stool after having it recommended by a Dragon Con attendee. Some of us were looking for something to help out with the long lines and lack of seating. Especially those of us with bad knees, hips, feet, backs, etc. I ordered it and have used it at a couple of events already. I like that it folds up to the size of a regular umbrella and fits in a bag you can carry across your shoulders. It is fairly light. I got the 26 inch height because I did not want to have to bend my knees to push myself into a standing position. I also got the the wider seat for more sitting comfort. You basically straddle it much as you would a bicycle seat. The legs are like a tripod and lock into place. To fold up, you press the buttons to release and the legs push back into themselves like a telescope. I had my knee replaced 8mos. ago and standing really gets to me after a while. But now I can fold out this stool for impromptu sitting whenever needed. Ive used it at another pop culture convention and the Highland games locally. It has truly been worth every penny.
Safe, secure, comfy, and easily portable. I’m a rubenesque beauty and this stool holds up very well. Checked the Walkstool website first, looked over all the reviews possible and decided this is the best. Here’s a point by point analysis.
I’ve been blessed to go to San Diego Comic-Con the last several years by volunteering and have tried numerous portable seat products. First tried a rolling cart with a seat attached; ok but needed more strength. Then a portable short mesh chair with a carrying bag; did the job but was a bit heavy and cumbersome. This stool is the best one by far. It has it’s own carrying bag, fits in my backpack, and is extremely lightweight.
Wanted a seat that would hold my weight and a heavy backpack. I believe this can hold a max 400lb but the suggested weight is around 350lb. They probably want to be sure people don’t over weight it.
The price seemed a bit high compared to other stools but then I realized the combined cost of the 2 previous chairs equaled the cost of this one. Also, getting a well made chair that should last a long time and can handle my weight was of utmost importance. I wanted to avoid being flat on the ground after breaking a chair in front of so many people.
Having never used a 3-legged stool before, besides holding my weight the second biggest concerned was stability. After a few tries the easiest method was to position one foot against the bottom of a leg and then sit down. Was that a necessary step? Probably not, but it made me feel more confident that the stool wouldn’t inadvertently slip out from under me or fold itself up as I set down. After doing this a few times I was popping up and down from that stool like a jack-in-the-box.
One drawback, which isn’t a real con, the polls dig in your flesh just a little. I’m going to find a little padding to put on those points of contact and see what that does. After I set for a while I stopped noticing it as much so it may not be a real issue.
I’m not only in love with this thing, I’m taking it to work to show a fellow Comic-Con’er. Those long convention lines have met their match.
I think this is overpriced, but it works okay for me. It’s not perfect, but it’s way better than the cheap camp stools you see.
I am 5’4″ and 175 lbs and got the 26″ which is tall, but makes it easy for me to get up. It’s well made. I do feel like the seat is solid and not going to rip out. If I sit on it properly on a flat surface, it’s reasonably stable. Though it’s an XXL seat, it’s not really that big, or comfortable. Though it’s rated for something like 400 pounds, I don’t think anyone who is really obese could sit on it comfortably because the seat just isn’t that big and the leg posts would poke your rear! To be stable, you must sit straddling a corner of the the tri-corner seat. That isn’t super comfortable for me (a woman), I think it would be agonizing for a man. If you don’t straddle a corner leg post, you will be supported in the back by only 1 leg, which is very tippy. Price-wise, I don’t see why it would cost them $40 more to insert the different leg bottoms for larger sizes. But I think once I get over sticker shock, I’ll be happy I got it.
i am using this in city due to a recent surgery in my knee. the 55 cm height is just right for me to easily stand up (i am 185 cm). it is comfortable to sit for prolonged amounts of time. once seated it is very stable. it is lightweight and comes with a carrying case. the only problem is that it doesn’t have a locked open position, so seating it requires full attention.
Spent a lot of time looking through reviews and was pleased that I did this as I bought the best one that suits my needs. Used it for queuing. At Disneyland, is small and lightweight so can easily be carried around. Would highly recommend, especially if you are of a larger build and need a sturdy seat.
Excellent little stool, i got it for the train journey to work. i get a few odd (& jealous) looks but defo worth the money
I bought this walkstool because I sprained a ligament in my right knee pulling my grandchildren up a hill on a sled. It was mostly healed by the time we went on a long awaited cruise in March. I had read reviews that check-in would be slow at the Miami port. I knew I could not stand forever, so I bought this walkstool and took it along. I took it out and sat comfortably for about 40 minutes before the line moved. On the cruise, waiting on the pier, I sat for about 30 minutes before the operator arrived. I carried it with me at debarkation, but found a park bench nearby to sit on in the shade, instead, waiting for the transportation we booked to show up. My knee has recovered by now, but I think I will always take it with me if there is any question of whether I would have to stand for a long time. It was easy to set up and collapse and handy to carry. The bag you carry it in has a shoulder strap.
26″ Walkstool is perfect for my use on cruise tours. I can sit while the tour guide talks, still tall enough, doesn’t feel awkward like a lower chair might with the group standing around me. I don’t have to struggle to stand up, (I’m already part-way there), which is helpful on a walking tour. I can also pull the legs together but leave them extended if it’s a short walk to the next stop, but they also collapse quickly if need be. It’s very light, and feels very stable. If you’ve done all-day tours off a cruise ship in the hot sun with few places to rest, or stood in line for any length of time, you might appreciate this stool. As a bonus, I’ve used this at lunch venues on tour when we needed one extra chair. Yes, it’s higher, but it works. Because of the saddle style seat, the actual seating surface is about 24″, roughly the same height as a counter stool. (The three corners extend to the 26″ height). I’m 5’7″. Thanks to other reviewers I tried my counter stool at home before ordering, and decided I would like this height for my intended use, versus the lower ones. Love this stool.
I have only used it a bunch for photography, (for sitting comfortably in front of my tripod, and/or monopod),
For me, it has been just what I wanted, very comfortable to sit on, I like it. But…be aware it is tall! I wanted a taller stool, not a chair, I wanted to be up tall where it would be easy to stand and move if necessary.( not sitting back, scrunched down in something ,where it is tougher to get out, or stand?). This 75cm stool is just what I hoped for when I made my purchase, and it has been great, It seems to easily hold my 300lbs, and feels very secure/sturdy, But… I am 6′ 3″ and I am still up on my toes a bit as I prepare to sit on it. That said, I am very pleased with this purchase, it is just what I wanted, and I believe it will last me for years and years to come?
Fantastic. Light and very easy to carry yet robust and perfect for my 5ft 9ins height and 125kg frame. Assembles and disassembles in seconds and is very comfortable to sit on. Due to hip problems I have limited walking range and have to take a break every 50/100 yards. However, I can sling the Walkstool on my back (so it doesn’t impede my walking sticks) and go for walks in places even where there are no handy seats available. I wish I had bought this years ago as it has given me a new freedom.
A bit pricey but you don’t have other options brilliant like this one. Got it for my dad and it was very handy. Although i next i will get the 65cm one
Met a charming gentleman called Thomas in Death Valley sitting on one of these, Thomas by his own admission is not a small man, his Walkstool was around 10 years old, the only thing he replaced was the rubber pad at the base of one of the legs.
Good product.
Prodotto veramente ben fatto e molto sicuro!
Mai pi in piedi!
Hands down one of the best things I’ve bought from Amazon in quite a while. I initially bought the walking stool for the Pax conference in Seattle last month. Unfortunately I got a size too big, the 75 centimeter model and since I had a limited amount of time I went ahead and used it. I’m 6 – 325 plus pounds and I can say it’s extraordinary comfortable, but the 75 centimeter model was just a little too tall for me. Once I got home I decided that I wanted to switch out for the 65 centimeter model and it just arrived and I can tell you right now it’s even more comfortable than the 75 centimeter model. One of our group at the convention saw my walking stool and decided to order his right then and there. I can honestly say that it holds up well, it’s very sturdy and I look forward to getting a lot of use out of it in the future.
It is true what they say, you get what you pay for. Even though you could buy a cheaper stool It would not be as sturdy as this is! I am a big guy (290#) and I do NOT always trust that what I sit on is going to hold me. That being said, this stool is very sturdy and I have no reservations about putting all my weight on it.
The frame is solid and the material on top appears to be very strong. The carry pouch is nice, although it would be nice if they had some sort of pad for the string, that you sling over your shoulder, when carrying it.
I have bad knees and needed something that was higher to make it easier to get up. With a 33″ inseam this 26″ stool works perfectly. I use it in my garage while working on cars and when folded up it fits nicely into the saddlebags on my motorcycle.
Great product for anyone that has disabilities. Light enough to carry easily, but very sturdy even on uneven surfaces. It’s a 10!
Light, sturdy and comfortable to use. An excellent piece of kit.
Worth the price… It is so light , so easy to put up and so comfortable.
Had to send back as the 65cm version of this stool was too tall for either me or my husband to comfortably sit on. He is 6ft and I’m 5ft 4″. The 55cm comfort stool was perfect for both of us and very comfortable. However, the 55cm version gets a full 5 out of 5. You can fit 2 in a rucksack and it still feels like you aren’t carrying anything. Just be aware that all the negative reviews on here seem to be for the basic model of the Walkstool. They are cheaper and made in China rather than Sweden. The basic models are 50cm or 60cm. The comfort models (or Amazon have misspelt and put confort) are available in 45cm, 55cm, 65cm, and 75cm. These are the one to buy.
I just received my 26″ Walkstool Comfort. The carrying bag and collapsibility will make it simple to carry either over the shoulder or attached to a backpack. I personally wouldn’t want it clipped to a belt – too hard to walk and awkward. It’s neither super-light nor heavy; it’s as heavy as it needs to be for a quality-built product. Definitely not too heavy to carry along if you’re used to carrying a purse/bag with everything but the kitchen sink in it. It was pretty self-evident how to take it out of the bag, pull out the seat, and release & extend the legs – a no-brainer. And wonder of wonders – it easily fit right back into the bag with no issues and no struggling, so in and out will not be a hassle. The seat is plenty large – my plus-sized butt was quite comfortable and the seat feels rock-steady. As for the 26″ height – I’m 5’7″ and if they made a 24″ that might have been better for me, but since they don’t I’m fine with very slightly taller than necessary. Maybe one day they might consider making one that could be adjustable by 2″ to fine tune for height. The 22″ might have worked for me, but since I have knee, back, ankle and hip issues, I wanted one of regular height as much as possible so it’s not an effort to stand up again. I think this will be brilliant. I can actually hike now!
I owned an original Walkstool when they first came out. I am happy to say that they have really improved on the product. The new Comfort models now come in sizes that let a person tailor to their height as well as to the use. The seats are now larger MUCH heavier duty fabric and better reinforced at the corners. As a member of the Big & Tall club it isn’t east to find a stool that can handle heavier people. This stool (55cm) will handle 495# which is a FAR cry from my weight but still better than the 250# most stools are rated for.
A great feature of this stool is being able to use it as a pivot stool. Just don’t extend the legs and deploy it with the legs forming a point. Great when you need to be able to pivot around or sit closer to the ground.
I loved the original and know I will love this one even more.
I’m a hunter and haven’t tried this in the field yet, but I have tried it out around my place. 4-stars because of the steep price and it doesn’t come in camo. I am 5’11” and bought the 18″ comfort (silver extended legs), and I wouldn’t go with anything longer (14″ would even be good if they made it). In the fully extended position the seat is more comfortable than I would have guessed, given that it is triangular and no matter how it is positioned will cause some guy discomfort after long enough. I like the recessed leg position where you butt is about 9″ off the ground and you can swivel left or right, and will easily have a knee in position for 3-point stability when aiming (see the walkstool demo on their website). The extended position is the most comfortable seating and if you carry a bipod shooting stick you will still have plenty of aiming stability, plus you are elevated enough to glass your surroundings. The less than 2 lbs of weight is not a concern even for my older self, since I typically only walk 3-5 miles in a day while hunting and the compact stool attaches easily to my day pack. No more searching for that well positioned and comfortable rock or fallen tree (no such thing?), or sitting on the damp ground and thorny weeds which are always felt before seen.
Well made, light, and sturdy stool. Probably would not stand up to really heavy usage but being made of alloy the weight advantage makes up for that. Very pleased. Also it comes with its own carry pouch.
Bought for my son-in-law as he is 20stone and the ordinary stools won’t support him properly. He was very pleased with it and it arrived very qucikly but, apparently, the stitching is now coming apart. I hope it doesn’t spread further. I am not sure how to complain about this.
Too long i propped myself up on one taking taking pictures at non league football games! Getting up stiff, sore required lots of effort……. Not anymore Got this. Compact, light and sit in games in comfort!!
I’m 5’8″ and of the fuller figure. This 55cm version is pretty much perfect for me and feels very stable with the legs extended, especially with the optional “Walkstool steady” accessory. This is a premium product and having looked I can’t see anything that comes close on the market.
An excellent product. Sturdy as hell (I am large and tall, weigh 200kg), light and easy to retract. A life saver for long walks, events and the like.
Very comfortable! Easy to assemble and light to carry. Bought for my parents in law when we have days out, or when shopping – perfect.
After owning some cheaper alternatives, I thought I’d invest in the walkstool after after reading some positive reviews.
Yes, the Walkstool seems pricey, but what you get is a well constructed, durable, compfy stool that justifies the price – and it includes a handy carry bag. With the fold up legs it’s a great height (varying heights in the range available) and the seated area appears larger than previous ones I’ve tried which makes for easier sitting / perching and it’s stable & compfy if seated for long periods.
I’ve previously spent between 5 to 15 on fold-up stools, but have found the feet have snapped, cracked and fallen off, Or the seat area is thin, uncompfy or worse you feel the leg poles poking in your bum, or be compact other stools have been too low to the ground.
I’ve used this stool to sit on and bbq, watch sport in a field, and even grabbed it out the back the car when there were no chairs left in a pub garden 🙂
Does what it says on the box very useful and comfy light to carry
Great size for back-packing / photography in the great outdoors; I found it sufficiently comfortable (although if you’re packing the calories around your @rse you might find it a bit of a pinch). Quick delivery. What’s not to like?
Second one of these I have had, lost the first. Very light and easy to carry, no issues with it.
Rock steady, never had any problems with it, its one of the dearest of this type of stool but, i didnt want to test out the cheaper ones, im a big guy so it couldve been dangerous, i dont know if there are cheaper ones that are as good (or good enough) i only know im happy with this one
I am 5′ 7″ and this was a little too tall for me but managed to get it swapped elsewhere for a slightly smaller one but with same weight bearing capacity.
Small and easy to carry yet full height when in use and solid as a rock under my more than ample backside.
Expensive but you get what you pay for.
You should be aware that when you sit on one of these stools the seat centre droops by about 4cm, so take this into consideration when choosing the seat height you want. The good news is that this adds to the comfort so it’s no bad thing. I suggest you measure the distance from the floor to the underside of your thighs when seated on a chair you find comfortable for your legs and use this as a guide to the stool height you need. I bought the 45cm version as this equates to a typical dining chair height (at least, in our house it does!) and that’s comfortable for me.
I bought this stool because it advertised that it can support a lot of weight, if I remember correctly the product website stated something like 440 or 540 pounds. I am a bigger than average guy who is 6′ and closer to 300 pounds for weight so I need something well built and stable. I also work with the military so I needed something small, easy to transport, light, durable.
I am so delighted with the Walkstool that I am actually thinking about buying a second one! I have only used it a few times, but it is comfortable, sturdy, well built and the telescoping legs makes it very compact. It is light and easy to carry, store and transport as well. This might be the best product that I have purchased in a very long time.
If I had to change one thing, it might be the carrying case. The case is a half mesh nylon material with a long draw string cord that can be used for over the shoulder carrying. It is well made, but I think that I would prefer a solid bag and not mesh. But I can’t stress enough how please I am with the stool itself.
This is a great little stool. I bring it to cons with long lines and waits. Speaking of weight, it can hold me up and with me and my backpack i’m pushing 300 and it held up fine. It’s a definite upgrade from my last one. The legs collapse and the feet are on real good. I just wish the legs locked in the collapsed position not just the open position. I McGuivered it to quickly attach and detach from my backpack but had to have it legs face up so the legs wouldn’t slide out due to gravity. It comes with a little carry bag but the Velcro used to keep it tight can snag on the mesh bag so I didn’t end up using it. They should have made the carry bag a solid material like a tent bag or something that wouldn’t snag on Velcro.
This product is awesome. I am a professional sports photographer and it is the perfect tool for shooting Basketball and Wrestling. Before I purchased the Walkstool I would kneel during the entire game so I could get the action from the angle I wanted while not blocking the view of spectators at court level. Sitting at essentially the same height is much more comfortable. The Walkstool is very sturdy and unbelievably light weight. It packs nicely and comes with a handy mesh carry bag. The product itself is darn near perfect for what I need. I would caution buyers to make sure that they purchase the Walkstool from an authorized dealer. Mine became damaged and I have had a very hard time getting any type of customer service from the seller. I purchased mine from Ornem through Amazon and when I tried to contact customer support I was given two other companies to contact by Amazon.I needed help not a run around. I finally contacted the manufacturer in Sweden for support. Mr Lars Andersson in Sweden immediately helped me to solve my problem which is a testament to his companies commitment to stand behind their product. I think the Walkstool is an Awesome product well worth every dime I spent but I wish I had purchased it through an authorized dealer.
Excellent and light, a well constructed item but you get what you pay for as it is quite costly against alternatives, although I have even confidence this will outlast all of the competition.
I bought the stool to use at conferences where finding an open seat can be difficult. And while some people can sit on the floor and work on their laptops, I can’t. I bought the Walkstool to give myself the ability to work on my laptop anywhere, so as to avoid the hunt for an open seat.
The Walkstool sets up quickly and feels solid. I think it will last.
One lesson: When I extended one leg in fast motion, it unattached itself. There are two push down buttons that lock into a hole, but a quick yank may cause the buttons to bypass the hole. It was easy enough to reattach.
I bought the 18″ stool because, as has been pointed out, that’s the height of a dining room chair. I’m 5′ 8″ and the stool feels just a little too low for me. I wish I had ordered the next size up, but can live with the 18″
It’s very light and when folded it’s small enough to attach to backpack. It comes with a case, but the carrying strap is really just a string. Wish there was more to it but it’s enough.
This is a great product available in a number of sizes. Being on the tall side, I needed the 75cm high model and am happy with the stool which has come in very handy when i am out and about and I am able to sit comfortably in venues where I struggled before because the seats were too low. Only minus point is that the seat pad does arch downwards which can reduce your sitting height, but I had allowed for this in the height of seat purchased. Like most portable seats, these seats are not designed to be used for lengthy periods – which is fine for me as I need to stand up every now and then to prevent the base of my spine “locking” – usually about every 15/20 mins or so.
Walkstool Comfort 45 L
Took a while to arrive but the stool is fantastic.
Excellent, well built and very sturdy. Surprisingly comfortable, as I am severely arthritic, having spinal arthritis, knees , hips etc. Very comfortable. Very lightweight. I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend them to anyone.
Not cheap, but very light and comfortable for me, and easy to carry.Take it with me birdwatching if i am going to be standing about.Cannot do without it now.
Great Stool that fits in my motorbike pannier perfectly, Stable and just the right height for me (6’2″)
I use this as a portable cello chair. I bought it for cello mountaineering (yeah, it’s a thing (sort of)). Actually, this stool was a little too short for me, and the next size up was a little too tall. So I use the Walkstool Comfort 55/22 (this one) with legs from the 65/26 (the next size up), which gave me the custom 60cm/24in height that I was looking for. The legs are available separately on Walkstool’s website (the 3 legs cost $20 shipped; the new ones came with red plastic buttons and I re-used the feet, which come off with a strong tug, so all you need to order is the legs).
I opted for the smaller seat and longer legs, rather than vice versa, for better stability. I tried both ways, and the difference is quite pronounced.
I tried the Walkstool Steady, which is a strap that loops over the three feet to add stability and floatation in soft surfaces. With my custom-height mix-and-match hack, the Steady doesn’t work well (you’d need to jump through some hoops to adjust the strap lengths). I weigh 76 kg, so I don’t worry about breaking the legs of the stool if they’re unsupported. But heavier people may want to use caution if sitting vigorously.
Does have the ability to hold a person of great weight ! (Rated up to 440 lbs) It wiggles & jiggles a little, but pretty sturdy. The easy tote case that comes with it appears well made & reliable. You will know you are carrying the item, but it’s pretty darn lightweight, especially considering the weight it can support !!
The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars is because wrapping seat strap and closing legs to put away does take a little hand strength and button pushing that many may not be able to do easily, particularly if you have arthritic or hand coordination issues. I think it’s a big hit for a reason. I got the 45cm size, at 5 ft. Tall it’s a little high for my inseam ( or lack thereof), I would have preferred the hard to get 40cm model. Buy & enjoy going farther without fear or fatigue !!!
I purchased the larger 65cm chair not really knowing what height to expect. It was very comfortable but sat a bit too high for my needs (about the height of a bar stool). My needs were for a backpack capable chair that I could use when deployed and in support of exercises.
When I came home after using the 65cm walkstool I opted for the 45cm size after measuring the standard chairs most Army units use. This chair comes in at around 18 inches, which is just right for standard chairs. It folds down to about 9-10 inches (the legs slide back inside), and is amazingly easy to stuff inside any sort of bag or backpack. It is small enough when folded that I can actually put it into my water bottle holders on the outside of my bags.
The chair is sturdy, with locking buttons that snap into place and ensure the chair does not collapse while in use. The canvas like mesh seat is wide enough to provide comfort without adding unnecessary surface area. That same mesh seat is almost bolted onto the legs, with heavy-duty layers keeping everything secure. There are wear resistant knobs holding the mesh down, which also ensures the chair does not catch onto anything when you sit.
I’ve gotten several compliments from many weary comrades, most not even realizing a chair like this existed. With space and durability always an issue for me, I couldn’t be happier with my purchase and I appreciate all the reviewers who made this product out to be worth every penny. It certainly is!
If you are wary of the price, you just need to understand what you are buying is no flimsy Wal-Mart camping chair that will stretch and sag after multiple uses. This is a quality product you will never have to replace.
Bought this cause I’m a big guy (big and tall) and those cheapies are not only too low to the ground but just don’t last, and they’re not exactly cheap either. Read the reviews and took the plunge. I especially like the height. I have a bad knee from an accident and can’t stand too long so this stool was just what the doctor ordered. I especially like it when shopping because when the wife was looking I always find myself looking for some place to sit. This stool works just fine and allows me to take a rest easily.
It appears to be well made so I can’t attest to it’s longevity but I expect to have it a long time. I find the seat comfortable for a stool and don’t mind the fact that there is no back. It’s easy to open and as long as you make sure it completely opens and hold onto one end while sitting, it provides a steady relief. I’m 6’7″ and find the height perfect making getting up very easy.
One thing that might be a nice addition is one or two additional holes to allow for varying the height. Maybe the manufacturer will look into that.
I would definitely recommend this to a friend.
I had bought another stool, which never worked right. It was bulky and heavy and awkward to carry. The poles would slip out of the feet, and it was a real nuisance. I lost one of the poles. So I looked for something better, and a friend recommended this one. The price was difficult for me, but I ordered it, and I have taken it with me on hikes of several miles. It is very, very lightweight and not at all bulky but quite sturdy. I thought I would miss the back on my old one, but I don’t. I can sit on it and set up my tripod, and it is wonderfully comfortable!
I am nearly 70, and I have some health problems that make hiking a little more difficult for me than for the average person. I go on hikes to photograph birds, and often I am tired, or have to be still in one place and wait for birds, and although I can sit on the ground, it’s not all that convenient, and I have to watch for things like stickers and ants. I really needed something like this and this has been perfect for me!
If you are an older person, don’t let that slow you down or keep you from getting the exercise you need. Really, I recommend you buy one of these. You will not regret it.
I have a lower back issues (slipped vertebrae and a herniated disk) that makes standing for more than about half an hour very uncomfortable. Sitting or squatting makes the pain go away but you can’t always find a place to sit and squatting is hard on the knees for more than a minute or two. This little stool is just the thing I needed.
It’s small (smaller than a loaf a bread when collapsed and folded), light (about as heavy as a loaf of bread, seriously!) and extends to a comfortable height. It’s comfortable enough to sit on and relatively stable (very stable on a hard surface but a little wobbly in soft dirt or on gravel). I use it for all kinds of purposes. I’ve taken it places I know I won’t find places to sit to relieve my pain. I use it out fishing to sit on as I put on and remove my waders. I’ve even used it around the house when I need to sit or get low to work on something or do some chore. With the legs collapsed, you can get pretty low and keep the strain off your knees instead of squatting or kneeling. It will hold a lot of weight so even bigger people can use it safely. The stuff sack has cords that can be used to sling this over your shoulder or wear it like a small backpack.
I love this thing and wish I’d found it a long time ago. It’s every bit as good as promised.
Much admired. Swedish engineering ! Quality product, bit on the heavy side but very comfortable. Much admired. Swedish engineering !
The Walkstool Comfort has no substitute!
After deciding to buy a Walkstool Comfort, I had to decide on which size. The 45cm (Large, 18″) is the same height as a kitchen chair. The 55cm (XL, 22″) is the next one up and they get taller than that from there. I was also concerned about the minimum collapsed height since it will be packed in my motorcycle bags.
I am 6′ tall. I went with the 55cm stool and glad I did. Collapsed it is 15″ long and easily fits in the motorcycle’s bags. Also being a little taller, it is easy to sit down and stand up from the Walkstool Comfort 55cm (22″). The 45cm is 2″ more compact and if the 2″ is critical for packing get the 45cm. If you are several inches shorter than 6′ and its easy to get out of a kitchen chair without assist, get then consider the 45cm.
The Walkstool Comfort feels light in my hand when just walking around and holding it. I find several uses for it. Also the 55cm (22″) has a weight load capacity of 495 lbs. The 45cm has a load capacity of 440 lbs. I don’t think I will be testing the limits but it does feel very sturdy when sitting in it.
Bit pricey but worth the bit extra perfect for touch line seating. Tried cheaper seats but all ended in disaster light to carry have purchased a second one for the wife she loves it too.
Also, mir gefllt er sehr!
I needed to purchase a stool for an African Drumming performance that I will be a part of in the coming weeks. I searched extensively online as I wanted something lightweight as my drum already weighs a ton and I didn’t want to add to that burden. usually “lightweight” and “flimsy” go hand-in-hand. I’m not a small person by any stretch of the imagination so I was also concerned about finding something that listed weight limits as I’d be mortified to have my stool collapse in the middle of the group’s performance! I finally came across the Walkstool and while I was not happy with the expense, i thought of other areas of my life that this could come in very handy, so I decided to spend the money. I went back and forth re: the 18 inch vs. the 22 inch as I was afraid it’d be difficult to rise from such a surface without it having a back and with it being so lightweight. I then went with the 18 due to being afraid my feet would not tough the floor (I’m not tall) and I’d have trouble hanging on to my drum with my legs if my feet were dangling. Well, my stool arrived yesterday and I was SO excited that not only is it not hard to get on/off, but it was actually pretty comfortable! I took out my drum and played for a while and could not be more happy with my decision. I’m also really excited to take it to a music festival I attend every summer that some of the areas we visit don’t have chairs. I have inflammatory arthritis so getting down on the ground and getting back up again is not comfortable for me. This is the perfect solution as it weighs practically nothing! Thank you SWalkstool for such a brilliant invention!!
Having used and carried other stools while hill walking this is by far the best. It is more compact, lighter and has a larger seat area then the most expensive fixed leg stool previously tried. As an older walker who gave up stting on mats on the ground and having others witness my embarrassment of then getting up with much difficulty, a stool became a must. I am very pleased I bought this stool as it has made breaks a more enjoyable rest.
I am 6′ 2″ and I want to be able to sit without my knees shoved into my chest when I use a portable chair. I do a lot of field work in places where there is no chair but yet have cabinets and similar surfaces for me to set my laptop down and do some field typing and designing, etc. I can carry this very light, but yet tall enough chair out in the field with my ‘puter in a bag and keep on working while the guys are turning wrenches or adjusting our machines. It is a good but not perfect chair. It has the tallest seat that I have found, but only adjusts to the one height (could have had holes for 3 different heights) and is real stable with the three crossing legs. The extending leg tubes have a “D” cross-section extrusion and this keeps the feet from spinning in the fixed upper tubes. The spring loaded locking pins have a fairly small button for finger pushing when setting up. I did experience the bottom tubes sliding all the way out past the correct length but not a real problem, just an irritation. The seat is amazingly comfortable and very strong. Don’t let my perfectionist comments keep you from purchasing this good chair. I would give it a grade of A- minus. I would purchase this all over again if I had to repeat the choice. JAB
Great product. Seems well made. But beware if you are a Klutz like me.
Everything says you can even sit on this stool with the legs fully collapsed. So I tried it when it arrived. I “thought” I was in the middle of the room well away from any other furniture. I sat down. It pitched me off. Right into the business end of an oak rocker. Not sure how many ribs I broke or cracked.
NOT the stools fault. Mine and mine alone. But if your balance is as poor as mine, extend the legs for balance. If your balance is good, you can probably sit on it just fine with the legs fully collapsed – LOL! (To be completely fair, I was on a carpeted floor with a really thick pad. If you were on concrete or something solid you might not have my problem.) I’ll say that again: Great stool, seems to be great construction, but extend the legs if you’re are a Klutz!
I’m keeping it though because, other then my stupidity, it works great, is light weight and is easy to carry along. If you want to stow it in a Maxpedition Mongo, go with the next size smaller and it’ll fit just fine. (Just for the record, I got the 55cm/22″ model.)
Edited to add: I’ve since had multiple opportunities to actually use this stool in the field. Despite my initial clumsiness, I’ve found it to be a remarkably stable stool to sit on. It’s light weight and small form factor make it a delight to carry around. Highly recommended.
Review for both 18″ and 22″ models:
I use a stool for shooting soccer. I use two cameras; one with a long lens on a monopod and the other (with a zoom lens) handheld. Standing is not an option, since I am rapidly switching back and forth between cameras during the match. I’ve tried several but most are not that rugged, and certainly not that comfortable after 90 minutes — or 180 minutes.
I had been thinking about one of these for awhile, when my brother and his wife gave me the 18″ model for Christmas.
Perfect.
Sturdy legs. Folds and collapses nicely. Functional bag. Strong, large, comfortable seat. Foot ends are wide to give good support in soft ground (soft ground on the edge of a soccer pitch — whodathunk!).
It also fits in the top case of my maxi-scooter, so I have a place to take a break on long rides.
This stool is great for just about any activity where you may want to take a break, but don’t want to burden yourself with that folding big chair business. Think concerts, fireworks at the park or mall, picnics, sporting events, hiking, birding, working on your motorcycle, waiting in long lines, hanging out in the Pentagon parking lot waiting for Rolling Thunder to start, etc.
As you can tell, I also bought a 22″ model for when I need a little more height. We’re short of chairs for impromptu huddles in my office, so the 22″ now spends most of the time there. People are constantly asking “Where did you get that stool?”
My latest purchase was the “Walkstool Steady” — which should be extra good for soft ground.
This is the second WalkStool we’ve ordered from 17th Street Photo. The first was the 22 inch model, and while perfect for a certain houseguest, it was not high enough for my needs. So we made him a gift of it, sending it home with him and ordered the 26 inch XXL for me.
Now this height is what I need for my two bad hips and a bad knee. Today it was easy to carry to a meeting; easy to sit on for well over an hour because the seat / saddle area is a good size for my 40″ hips; easy to rise from and refold. (Very nice for use on the lawn, too. I tried that first.) Though I’d never used a three legged stool before WalkStool, I quickly learned to straddle one of the points of the triangle, and am very pleased with how this seat invites a comfortably erect posture.
Be advised, however, that though the description says 26″, it measures 25″ when it’s fully open with no weight on it. (We didn’t measure the 22 inch model for actual height.)
My delight with the service rendered sounds paradoxical at first: Prompt delivery from 17th Street Photo, for both orders, yes. But there was a problem with the second order. When it came, a small 18 inch model (!) had been sent instead of the 26 inch. A dismaying sight, of course. However, when I phoned the company I didn’t have to go through a menu but got to talk with a real live human being, one whose genuine concern for the customer and whose courtesy reflects highly upon the company. He took all my information and emailed me (that day) what I needed to return the product (including a return label to print up so I didn’t have to pay for return shipping). The return went out the following day by UPS.
17th Street Photo was prompt in rectifying the problem, shipping us the correct WalkStool as soon as the incorrect item reached them. No nagging or hassle necessary.
A matter of company integrity, apparently. Nice. Very nice.
I mean SERIOUSLY big. I look like it should take something like eight tiny reindeer to lug me around.
I also have some seriously bad problems with my back, hips and legs: Ankylosing spondylitis and spinal stenosis. As such, standing or walking for more than a few seconds begins to hurt, and the longer I stand or walk, the worse it hurts.
When a friend of mine (also very much eight-tiny-reindeer-sized) showed me his Walkstool, it went directly to the top of my, “Must Have,” list.
I have a walker, but it’s huge. I joke that it takes up about 13% more space when it’s folded up than when it’s open and in use.
It’s not that much of a joke.
It’s hard to lug around, and it doesn’t fit into the back seat of any of the cars in which I ride and only fits in a few of their trunks. If I need to have it, I’m careful to make sure that I have a van available for the driving part of any excursion.
Otherwise, I’m pretty much house-bound.
The Walkstool, on the other hand, flips over my shoulder and off I go. If I need to take a bit of a break, it unfolds in seconds and it’s a solid seat on all kinds of ground and floors.
I’m crazy about it!
The reindeer team seems happier, now, too.
After having a cheap folding stool collapse under me, depositing me into a gorse bush and nearly removing vital parts of my anatomy, I decided I needed something that would support my weight. The Walkstool promised to be the solution and it has, indeed, turned out to be almost perfect. Its great when out birdwatching and at festivals. Its light weight and small, collapsed, size means I’ll take it with me if I suspect I may need it.
I purchased this stool to replace a smaller camp stool which had a torn seat. I’m about 220 pounds after lunch and a flimsy stool is no bargain. My old camp stool was much shorter and required more strength than my 64 year old knees can regularly provide. The 22in/55cm height gets me down low enough for most of my macro or low level shooting. Getting up from the 22 inch height is a heck of a lot easier than trying to pop up from shorter stools. The large seat more closely matches my large seat making it a good deal more comfortable than smaller versions. This stool also resists sinking in softer ground with its large feet. The button releases take a bit of getting used to but provide a solid safe lock when clicked into place. The canvas seat cloth seems well made and very sturdy. I doubt that I will need to replace this one unless it is stolen, by my wife. I have tried the shortened setup where you don’t extend the legs to get a lower height but the single point of contact with the ground means I am spending my time trying not to fall over and figuring out how I am going to manage to stand up again. Overall a quality product, good design and the 22 in height seems to be just right for someone who is normally 6′ 2″.
