What to consider when buying a nightlatch
Which size do I need?
Yale Nightlatches come in two different backset sizes that fit different door types.
Make sure you measure the door before you purchase one. The backset on a night latch is the distance from the centre of the keyhole to the edge of your door.

Fit for purpose but.... I
I was replacing a very old 40mm lock. There were small differences in a couple of dimensions that made life a bit more problematic. The solid knob on the new one doesn’t accept the long lever. It has to be shortened buy, hey, it’s graduatrd for that purpose. Satisfied.
Straight swap
If you don’t want to go to much trouble I would recommend this because it was a straight swap for a 15 year old Yale. I would imagine this to be the case for most Yale locks going back donkeys years.
Easy to install.
Bought this as a like for like replace for an existing lock on an elderly neighbours front door. Not the latest in hi tech locks but was what the neighbour wanted for an older style wooden front door.

Same lock but colour gold seems not to be as one would like
Had the same on on my door that was green and needed to change colour to gold to match the rest of the door handles etc…
Colour gold seems to be slightly different as one would expect it there or no other direct alternative that I can put unless I do some work on the door (needed direct replacement)
Robust product good value.
I wanted to add a bit more security to my house but whilst keeping the period front door (only had a simple mortice lock). The lock arrived promptly and seems of high quality. The brass finish is in keeping with my existing door furniture so to is the classic look. The operation is very smooth and easy. I’m no professional but with a 32mm drill bit, hammer and chisel and a screwdriver I was able to install the lock very easily. The instructions are adequate but there are some good youtube videos to follow for a bit more assistance and to gain some confidence before drilling through the door!
Simple replaceme
Used to secure a garage door. Took off existing latch, and this was a direct replacement. Although not up to modern lock standards (in comparison to multi point locking systems) this is a solid lock and easy to install.
Chrome Yale 77 a big finish improvement on the original finish.
This CHROME Yale lock modernises the original sprayed bronze effect from the 1960’s to now. Enabling you to keep a good old solid front door that had the old Yale 77, but update it with chrome door furniture. But would recommend these days you also fit a 5 lever mortice lock to comply with most house insurances.
Lock
Post was very good and very quick. The lock itself was really badly made. It didn’t fit and was not level between the door and post. In fact we had to go and get another. Will not order this kind of thing from amazon again. Ones bitten twice shy.
Yale locks 706PBTraditional Nightlatch
Sorry I have not ordered it but have exactly, the same for past 40 years. However a builder 6 years ago was working on my premises. even though I said to him do not lock he ended up locking the door after him, when I arrived obviously he locked me out, silly me did not have the keys, police declined, locksmith said 275 call out charge. no one in neighbour would jump the fence or help. wedding the following day. Its now coming up to midnight, than a fire brigade came and I am not allowed to say how they opened my door but they did. I was in tears at last I was inside my home. whilst I am grateful the door was unlocked for me, but the lock was pampered with and since than the keys are giving me trouble. Now I decided to fix new lock yesterday a builder bought a new same yale lock but the new version is not compatible with old door frame builder is now struggling for past 5 hours to fit it. Than I saw this lock but too late, if only I looked before I would have got it from amazon as I find amazon service excellent. I pray the builder will be able to fix it tomorrow.

Minor irritatio
Bought to replace a 20-year old version where the deadlock has snapped off. The latch itself is fractionally wider ( conversion to cms from ins?) Meant replacing more than originally intended.. Otherwise fine.
