They’re ok. But just ok. If you’re used to an acoustic kit, you’re in for a surprise. While they are playable, you’re going to spend hours trying to get the sound you want. Spend the extra money and get a better set.
Purchased as a gift for the hubby, learning drums on his bucket list. Super pleased with quality and easy set up. Great sound with amp and also easily no sound with headphone use! That’s a plus.
The sound and options are abundant without all the noise on my end! It is great when I’m trying to get stuff done and he is in the pocket and I can’t hear it!! Worth every dollar!
First electronic drum set and I was amazed at the quality and sound. Would strongly recommend!
I sing and play drums in a 6-piece band (“JUG”: Just Us Guys), and this kit is fabulous!!! Watch videos on YouTube, to fully appreciate all the features!
I love everything but the hi hat. This set is well made. I play it every day. I might buy a real hi hat. I added a cymbal and drum to max it out. Worth the money!
Great bit of kitso far. Had it a few months now and it’s standing up to the beating I’ve been giving it. Sound is great and easy to assemble and use.
Overall I’m happy.
It takes a bit of fiddling to get this set right.
If using a headset with a mic, pull the jack out just a touch to get full volume.
I would do some research and figure out how to adjust everything for volumes and sounds, it is not great from the factory.
Everything feels good and it’s really nice to practice whenever I feel like it.
Trs bonne batterie lectrique avec un son trs proche d’une batterie acoustique.
Les sensations des pdales et le toucher avec les baguettes sont trs surprenant.
Je recommande cette batterie.
Sound is incredibly real plus the digital module allow you test different settings and change the drum’s kit sound when you want. This product offer a very realistic sense for those who have played acoustic drums and are concerned about buying these electronic of kits; I highly recommend it. Finally, I am surprised by high quality materials the kit is built on, which makes me think that the product will have a long durability.
Headphone output not very loud, everything else OK. If you are a beginner you will need to go onto the internet to find out how to arrange everything in the right place for playing.
Bought this as my first electronic kit and by extension, my first kit in years. Play the drums fairly often as a hobby. Overall, the kit is decent enough as far as the pads go. I’ve had this thing for the better part of a year now with almost daily use and have had zero issues with the mesh pads.
The cymbals are another story though. A few months in, the adhesive holding the rubber to the plastic cymbal base started to fail. Alesis was quick to send me a replacement (I actually kept the old cymbal and just moved it to a less played position) but even the replacement had the same failure. Unfortunately, the rubber coming loose severely impacts the playability. All 4 cymbals I have now are starting to have the same issue. The hi-hat cymbal also experienced the issue reported by others where the screws pull through the plastic bracket.
I play with some fairly lightweight ProMark and Vic Firth nylon-tipped 5As so nothing crazy heavy and I try to not whack this thing like an acoustic. You really get what you pay for here. With a better module and cymbals, you could carry the mesh pads forward quite a bit. At that point though you may as well have stepped up to the DM10 Pro MkII or even a Roland TD-27KVX. I also had to deal with crosstalk issues pretty much constantly and still get missed hits and other odd behavior.
As far as noise goes, the pads are decently quiet. The cymbals are pretty clacky though and the kick will be heard outside the room and through the floor. You probably won’t disturb any other housemates much behind a closed door but you definitely won’t be playing into the night.
If you’re just a hobbyist trying to avoid breaking the bank or want a decent kit to get started, I would recommend this one. If you’re more serious, just save your money and get something nicer. This kit will not last and you’ll quickly envy the features and playability of something higher-end.
Life long drummer…
Assembly instructions are vague. Takes some adjusting to get it to fit your reach. Lots of features and sounds. Works great and is a ton of fun. Would recommend.
Easy set up. High hat peddle and responsiveness is a little meh. But I’m happy with everything else.
Very high-quality construction and outstanding price for durable dual-zone 2-ply mesh pads all around, chokeable crash/ride cymbals, great feeling 2-ply mesh kick, solid drum rack, and the various other bits and pieces.
The pads are all extremely responsive with next to no hotspotting (thanks to the 4 [toms] or 6 [snare] foam piezo-to-mesh contact points in each pad, as opposed to a singular foam cone right in the center on other manufacturer’s kits). Dynamics are great, rim and head zones register hits perfectly, and they’re quiet(ish). The cymbals are probably the weakest point pad-wise. That’s not to say they’re bad–they register hits, dynamics, and chokes very reliably. They’re just single zone (marketing says they’re dual zone, but they mean one zone for hits and the other ‘zone’ is the choke switch) and on the small side. So no ride bell or edge sounds out of the box. Otherwise they’re durable, accurate, and overall fully functional.
The module has a ton of sounds, settings with which to tinker, and connectivity options. The built-in sounds are…passable depending on your circumstance. If you’re just playing for you in your headphones you’ll find many sounds fit the bill. If you’re trying to perform on stage then it’ll be much more difficult to find and tune sounds that will work well enough…but it’s nigh impossible to blow anyone away. Don’t buy it for the sounds, unless you’re just going to drum the days away with headphones.
Don’t let that discourage you though! With the USB-MIDI and traditional MIDI output options, you have two ways to pipe the Command’s hits/MIDI info to your computer. There you can use standalone drum software like the free MT Power Drum Kit and Steven Slate Drums 5.5 Free or higher quality paid options like EZdrummer, Addictive Drums, or my personal favorite SuperiorDrummer 3 to trigger incredible sounds with enhanced dynamics and realism.
I’ve upgraded my Command set with 3-ply white heads, a triple zone ride (took some finagling to get to work), and a 2-piece hihat and remote/cable pedal for a way more natural and traditional hihat experience. I did experiment with a 10″ Roland PD-105BK pad that I borrowed from a friend as my snare (seen in one of the pics), and although it worked and triggered great there was a heckin’ hotspot in and around the middle due to the single trigger cone (believe me I tried to tune it out in trigger and software settings, but there’s no way around it). I went back to the stock Command snare and so much better.
With minimal upgrades (or none!) and quality drum computer software, you’ll be blown away at how amazing this kit feels and sounds for the price–easily rivals Roland’s best (although with mid and high-end Roland modules you’re not reliant on hooking up to a computer to get amazing sounds…but you’re gonna pay dearly for the lack of that extremely minor inconvenience).
For personal enjoyment and/or practicing then the kit is perfect for the intermediate drummer straight out of the box. You really can’t go wrong!
So I got this drum set in a couple days ago, never played an E Kit until now, always has been acoustic for me. (Unless you include rock band) And so far after a couple days, everything is working like it should. I’ve been playing drums for 9 or so years, metal drums specifically. I still have my acoustic kit, but due to my current situation I can’t play them because of noise and space. This solves both those problems perfectly. It’s extremely quiet, quiet enough to where my brother didn’t even know I got the set in, and he’s just a couple rooms over and I played for 3 or so hours yesterday while he was asleep. Fits in the spot I made for it perfectly, with more room to spare.
I was hesitant on getting this kit at first because of reviews I read about the kick drum pad not regeresting double kick properly. Tried to look up videos of people playing but it was people either just starting out on double kick or playing it to slower double kick songs. (I play pretty fast, but not super super fast) I play alot of Djent, Metal core, Death Core, etc. Mainly stuff like Invent Animate, Volumes, Old Asking Alexandria, Chelsea Grin. Just to give you a few examples of what this kit is capable of. Because all of the covers I did were flawless with my DW 7000 double kick pedal. (USE PLASTIC SIDES OF BEATERS TO MAKE YOUR DRUM HEAD LAST LONGER, AND NYLON TIP STICKS) If you’re coming from an acoustic kit, let me just tell you it definitely takes some getting used to. Try to spread the pads out and make it as close to your acoustic kit as possible. You’re never gonna get it EXACTLY like your acoustic, but over time you will get the hang of playing it. I promise. First time I played I was hitting my sticks together etc, but the more I played and moved stuff around to my liking closer to my acoustic, the more comfortable I got and noticed a huge difference when I went back to it today. On my acoustic, I use a 4 piece set, Bass drum, Snare, one Rack Tom, and a Floor Tom. For this E Kit 5 piece set, (It says 8 piece but they’re including cymbals) I set the 2nd rack Tom to a ride and the rim of that Tom as a splash. The 1st rack Tom rim to a different splash. And the Floor Tom rim I set as a China. For cymbals, Hi hat is a hi hat. First Crash is still a crash, and the “ride” cymbal I set as another Crash. I eventually want to get another cymbal pad to set as my china and not use the rim of the floor tom, but that will come with time. (It comes with additional slots for an extra tom and cymbal pad)
Now, for sounds. I use headphones (Audio-Technica ATH-M20x) because I don’t have a drum amp currently. The sounds in the module aren’t BAD. They’re about average. The worst sounds being the hi hat sounds imo. As much as I tweaked with the hi hat sound I couldn’t get it to sound close to how I wanted it, so I just turned the volume down on it so it’s not as loud. If there’s anything I would suggest for this kit and the only reason I gave it 4 stars out of five. I would suggest either getting a different module or using EZ Drummer etc and hook it up to your computer for better sounds. (I’m currently in the process of hooking up EZ Drummer but yes, you can do that!)
As for durability, I can’t say much on it yet cause I’ve only had it a couple days. And total played maybe 6 hours. But like I said earlier, from reading and doing research on this kit, make sure to use the plastic side of your kick pedal beaters and nylon tip sticks to make your heads last longer. At least it’s literally what everyone that’s had this kit for a while says. And from a friend of mine that’s used ekits for a long time now.
All in all, so far so good! The main thing I was afraid of, (Double kick) works great for me. (So far) And I’m no newbie when it comes to Double kick! If you’re worried about it not working, it will work! At least mine does. Again, I use DW 7000’s. I hope I answered some questions you guys had and thank you for reading! Much love!!
Easy to assemble, sounds good, great for anyone thinking of taking up the drums but need a quieter solution to acoustic drums
I’ve wanted a kit since I was a kid & finally got this one. And I’m thrilled with it! Sound quality is excellent, & the mesh heads have a really good, responsive feel. The whole thing was reasonably easy to assemble, even for someone as inept as me.
Some things to consider: 1) the sound presets that came with the kit are ok, but you can edit them somewhat to expand their range. Running the kit through software like Logic or GarageBand lets you take things further. 2) The snare is a good size, but the toms & cymbals are a bit smaller than I’d like. However, I’m adjusting to that fairly quickly. 3) The choke feature on the crash is great, although it’s a little hard for a beginner like me to find the necessary sweet spot every time. 4) The pedals are really good, very sturdy, but the spikes that provide traction will GOUGE a wooden floor. Not the fault of the kit, but worth knowing in advance. You’d do well to sit the kit or even just the pedals on a carpet or thick towel.
Best thing about this excellent kit is that you can pound away as loudly (&, in my case, as badly) as you like without disturbing others, within reason. That’s perfect for shy beginners, who want the sound of quality drums but not the embarrassment of a loud kit broadcasting your mistakes.
In short, I’m so very satisfied with this kit. A fair price for a well made instrument that you can expand with an extra tom and/or cymbal. Highly recommended!
This was an upgrade for me, the reason being that this kit you can adjust the sounds and volume of each Tom and Cymbal. However, the Cymbals are not duel zone, unlike the Toms. I decided to return the Surge and buy the Crimson II SE, on which the cymbals can be adjusted.
I connect a high-end computer speaker set with subwoofer when it’s ok to make some noise, and use headphones other times. It’s a little better with the headphones, since you can’t hear the sound of the sticks on the rubber cymbals that way. Lots of sound options, and you can even tweak some of the presets and save custom ones. Also lots of functions for practice. The main downside for me, when compared to a real drum set, is how small the pads are.
Excelente batera para principiantes, muy completa, gran calidad de sonido.
I needed to convert ta an electronic mesh drum kit because they are very quiet. The kit I had was rubber padded and was noisy. Also, I have limited space, so this kit was perfect for me. It does have the ability to fold for storing. The box is heavy. Most likely because the frame is chrome steel. It’s very sturdy. The set up was very easy. I am left handed so I had to set it up, “backwards”. Once completely set up, everything worked perfectly and I knew I made the right decision. I liked the various pre programmed kits and musical percussion sounds. Easy to understand the basic functions. I liked this kit so much that I purchased the, “expansion kit”. Because the kit was set up in reverse I need extension cables but needed them for the expansion (1-drum 1-cymbal) kit too. I use nylon tip sticks so as to not tear up the mesh heads. Excellent inexpensive drum kit….
I had this kit and really liked it. For the money, it is a great value. TIP: When you first set it up, before you add any of the drum holders, make sure the legs are straight. When I set it up, after all the drums were attached and I started using the kit, I realized one of the vertical legs was not straight. The kit was still usable, but the aesthetics were off a little. I was not going to disassemble the whole thing to fix the stand, but I was more cautious the next time I set up a kit.
Wanted to get a kit to play in my apartment and start playing again after 20 years. The kit is what it says so I cannot complain howeber it certainly does not feel like playing an acoustic set. The feel of it is much different and the size of the drum pads are very small. This is not a criticism directed at Alesis. It is what it is I was just hoping for a more realistic feel. I think for somebody who plays or has played it is worth looking at the higher end kits. This is more of a toy.
L’acquisto ha soddisfatto le mie aspettative anche se in passato avevo una batteria acustica. Anche se nel montaggio non ho avuto grosse difficolt sarebbe opportuno migliorare le istruzioni.
I bought this as an upgrade to my Alesis Nitro rubber head kit I bought a few years ago. Having mesh heads is a real improvement. I’m very happy with this set. I used a snare stand I already had for the snare pad which freed up one of the clamps, so I used one of the old pads as my number 4 tom. Works great. The control module is lightyears ahead of the old Nitro module. The samples are a lot better. I’m going to try using some of my own samples, too. Overall, it is a great set that was easy to set up.
Top de chez top
Trs beau son trs belle d’aspec
Love the mesh…has good action response..love the 10″snare. And a awesome price to boot!
So!…. I’m lefty flip, a mouth-breather and was bottle fed!
The assembly, personally, taking the above into the equation, coupled with a direct comparison to the old nitro kit, was a dream!
Build quality, design and looks, practicality and Uber stability, makes the whole thing “winner-winner, chicken-dinner” for me!
Let’s see what this baby can do with 2000w strike amp (arriving tomorrow)
Rock n Roll

Bought this set to learn to play drums. I know they are not the cheapest or the most expensive set out there. Recieved on time with no damages. I do like the looks and being able to set it up the way I wanted. I believe for the money it’s a good value. I have found that I have had to buy some other things for this set to protect it and an amp for when we want to hear how we are doing.
his drumkit arrived this morning and after setting it up and playing for a few hours, i really like it. the sound is pretty good, it has a lot of programmed kits, and i like the play along and usb features. the only reason im giving it four stars instead of five is the hihat. it only has 2 or 3 different sound based on how open the pedal is. also the cymbals are difficult to choke. other than that it is a fantastic set.
The picture is my expanded kit – 1 extra floor tom and 1 extra cymbal.
I played for many, many years on an acoustic set “back in the day” but have not played anything in 25 years. I was always opposed to electronic drums back then as they were imposters. However, I must say technology has changed dramatically. These are really, really good for the price. They number of custom drum kits you can make (16) is far more than I need.
Set up is fairly straight forward. Adjustments for every size person is super easy. The answer wis very likely yes to any questions on this topic, eg. height of ______ , angle of _____, you get the idea. It is all adjustable.
Had 1 minor issue with the sensor inside the snare and Alesis customer service was excellent. Prompt (a few days) in getting back to me and they sent a new drum.
This is the best value for the money when I compared all the kits around. All mesh, DUAL zone for each drum, so yes, I have 4 cymbals on the rims of each tom [ 🙂 ] plus the 3 actual cymbals.
If you are really advanced and feel the need for dual/triple zone cymbals with your dual zone drums, ALesis has that kit for that too.
Ive only had it 1 month but I am more than pleased with it. Internal sounds are a little digitally plasticy-tin-ee sounding and I mean only a little. I wouldn’t use the module sounds for a professional gig, however amazing for practicing on just hope it lasts!!
Prodotto superiore alle mie aspettative, davvero una batteria elettronica molto affidabile da tutti i punti di vista. E complimenti ad Amazon che sempre puntualissimo e molto affidabile!
Really a good sound, the only is difficult to follow how to play.
great functionality , and the mesh heads give you a much better response than rubber or even a real drum. I was surprised to find out that not only does this kit allow you do rim shots, you can set each rim to any sample you want. for example i dont do rim shots on toms anyway , so i have the rim of the floor tom set as my ride cymbal so I could use both disk pads for crash and splash. very useful.
I bought this set because I had always wanted to try my hand at the drums and an acoustic set was completely off the table. First of all the assembly was a little complicated but nothing a little careful attention to detail couldn’t handle. After assembly it’s easy enough to navigate through the different sets built into the interface however any further tweaking or exploring will need further research into the UI. The UI also supports the addition of another tom pad and cymbal pad. Moving and adjusting the drum pads and cymbals to suit you is very easy courtesy of everything being locked in with wing nuts. Overall I would recommend this kit for beginner- intermediate players.
I am an amateur drummer. I have played drums in many alternative rock bands – and I can play 4/4 and rock out as needed. I bought this kit because the mesh heads seemed like a good idea. And, I was right. The mesh heads give a very real feeling response. Assembly was time consuming, but not too bad. The instructions, believe it or not, had no words! Just pictures! However, they actually provided all the information you needed. Finding the plug ins for all the toms, snare and cymbals was difficult at first. I love how you can change the sound of each piece (tom, cymbal, snare, etc.). I am using my bass amp (200 W Peavy) to hear what I am playing right now, and it sounds CLEAN. I am playing along to live music on my sound system and it is REALLY fun (I started playing to Pearl Jam “Black” first). I really like this kit and think the price and quality are great. I think Alesis is going to make a name for its self in the e-kit arena.
I had NO idea how much fun and pure enjoyment I was going to have with this kit. I didn’t realize that when it said there were over 300 (almost 400, different sounds, plus you can change the pitch and tone of all of those), so you can make thousands of different percussion sounds and you can program any of those sounds on ANY of instruments in the kit.(Bass drum can be a cowbell or tambourine or any of the other sounds) On one of my personnel saved kits I have the cymbals set up as timpani! On one of my other kits I have set up as all Latin stuff-bongos, congas, timbales, etc., and all the rims are programmable too so I’ve set them to castanets, claves, wood blocks etc. It’s such a blast! I found a cheap little Fender amp and I just crank up the tunes and rock out. I’M A DRUMMER AGAIN at 67 years old. I hadn’t sat behind a drum set in ?? 30 years. Now I can be the entire percussion section. I can’t compare the Alesis to Roland but I can’t see that I’d enjoy them anymore. Would I buy Alesis again? In a heartbeat! The kit has held up great–And I pound the heck of it. There is not a stick mark any where. OH and only because I was in a pawn shop and they just happened to have a Tama double pedal I’ve set up that too. Now 67 year old uncoordinated legs don’t play it to well, but I try, and it’s fun. I had to do some tweaking to get the two beaters close enough over the trigger(mike) in the bass drum but it does work. I really had a dilemma deciding between getting a regular drum set and an electronic one. I finally let the fact that I could play these with headphones and not bother anyone make that decision. So IF you are tired of playing the dashboard and air drums and either want to learn drums or like me get back to them, the Alesis is a great choice. Ha-I’m still learning everyday all the things I can do on it. Reverb-pitch-tone-lessons-timing-on and on, I’ve had it for 10 months now and I still don’t know all of its capabilities. And I didn’t want to say it’s just for beginners–with a good amp you could easily use it professionally. Update: I bought this set on Dec 22,2019 so its been right at a year now. I play it daily and I’m still happy with it; in fact I just bought an xtra tom and cymbal to expand it a tad. It is a great buy!
To start with, I really like this set. The mesh pads feel great and the cymbals have pretty good response. It was very easy to setup and it’s reasonably stable. The kit is easy to extend with an additional cymbal or pad and it’s pretty flexible.
There are some easy improvements that you can make for the kit. The first is to get some noise isolation pads or boards to pace under the legs. That helps to stabilize the kit and dampen vibrations. One other easy improvement is that adhesive foam dampening pads can be added to the backs of all of the mesh pads. That cuts down on some echo. Last, I noticed that the wires going to the piezo sensors were loose and would rattle around in a few of the mesh pads. That’s easily fixed by removing the mesh head and taping the wires down with electrical tape.
The two biggest issues that I have with the kit are the module’s sound quality and the sensitivity of the hi hat pedal. The module seems to introduce a lot of noise to the audio in signal and the built in sounds aren’t great. The hi hat pedal doesn’t have a lot of discernment between the open, closed, and half closed states which leaves me using it more as an open-or-closed trigger pedal.
Overall, the kit is an excellent buy for the price and very worth it for beginners or anyone else that’s just looking to have a good time without breaking the bank.
Saw it recommended somewhere, and it works out of the box without extra software (in the public alpha builds). Does work perfecly and it’s probably overkill, but I’m entirely satisfied so I consider it money well spent.
We really like this drum set. We’ve only ever known acoustic, but we live in a small house and wanted something more compact for our son to learn on after he expressed interest.
It was easy to assemble and really works perfectly. We can use headphones or, with an adapter, plug an amp into it.
It’s pretty expensive, so take that into consideration. I would hate to be stuck with this thing and have the interest in drumming leave me in a month or two. I can’t imagine selling it and getting anything close to what I paid for it.
I do recommend the product though. It’s really everything we had hoped for. The abundance of different kits, the metronome, it’s all awesome.
Look at all the cool stuff we get into during Covid-19 SIP restrictions! I bought this as a gift and subtracted a star purely because Amazon uses UPS delivery, who for no known reason, routed this package literally to the other end of the country prior to delivery. It was late by almost 2-weeks, which I want to point out that it was 30 minutes away from the delivery address prior to going on a road trip. Once delivered, the box was a mess and thus the surprise ruined. From what I hear though, it’s not damaged and sounds Amazing. There are some things he’d prefer to be different, yet this is worth every penny and golds up nicely when you need to tuck it away.
Muy buen producto; me gusta. La venta, el envo y la entrega, sin ningn inconveniente. Las mallas crean la sensacin de realismo. El rack estable, fuerte y seguro. En relacin a su precio, es altamente recomendable.
I’m 34 and just bought this as my first ever kit. I get home from work at 2:30 and my wife works from home until 5 (‘rona virus). I come home and play for a couple hours and while she can hear me hitting the heads, its not the deafening cacophony of a novice drummer.
I really love running my phone through the audio unit and playing along with a spotify Playlist or Drumeo practice videos.
Took about an hour to set up and a while longer to figure out the best drum placement.
Be careful when tightening the square headed screws. I accidentally tore the head off of one while trying to make an adjustment, but it was already secured so no harm done. They’re just not heavy duty screws
I gave up a Ludwig drum set soon after high school almost 40 years ago. No pro, just enjoyment. Electronic drums got cheaper through time so got this to bring back memories and the fun. Only issues, Hihat isn’t precise, nor can you change it’s sound like a “real” one. Also, It would be nice to have a module that you can adjust the sound for each peice, not the complete set as a whole. (I’m guessing there is such a module)
And the base pedal isn’t precise like a real one, hard to make the double beat, or perhaps there’s some adjustments to it I’ve not found. The pluses are many however. Size, quietness. No need sound proof room. Enjoying my purchase immensely.
This does not compete with the top-end roland v-drums, but for my purposes it’s perfect. I’m primarily a keyboardist producing music alone in my home studio. I can play drums just well enough to lay down a basic groove for my compositions. The feel I get from this kit is already a huge improvement over my finger drumming. I also like the practice features that help by providing feedback when I play off beat. The mesh heads are nice and the cymbal mute feature means I can usually play what I feel naturally and the kit just works. I use this kit to trigger Logic, Ableton, AD2 & other drum sound libraries, and it does play well with others. For beginners, hobbyists and drummers looking to explore the transition to e-drums, I recommend this set. It’s a good value for the price. Enjoy and happy drumming!
I decided to learn the drums after thinking about it for a year or so. I got a practice pad but quickly decided I wanted a kit. However, since I live in an apartment, my only real option was an electronic kit. Knowing little about drums in general and electronic drums in particular, I decided to risk it with this kit. I am not disappointed. This kit is easy to set up and fun to play and I feel it is definitely worth the money.
All that said, you need to understand that you are paying $500 dollars for an instrument (well, a collection of instruments), so as far as I’m concerned, this is a starter drum kit. Don’t get me wrong, it gives me everything I need to learn to play drums, but if/when I decide to play with other musicians semi-seriously, I will upgrade to a “serious” kit (maybe the Alesis Strike or Strike Pro, or perhaps a Roland kit). However, this is no different from any other type of instrument (being a classically trained guitarist, I’m pretty familiar with how this works–I certainly wouldn’t consider a $500 classical guitar adequate for serious performing).
Note: One thing you should know when assembling this kit is to be sure that when you set it up, the smooth black plastic side of the striker should be what impacts with the kick drum mesh head. I did not realize this and had the felt side hitting the mesh which eventually damaged the mesh, requiring me to order a replacement (which they are sending for free).
I love the fact that now I can play drums again. After moving into an apartment I have not been able to play my regular drums.i can play these 24/7 if I want to
This kit produces a great sound, the mesh pads are very responsive, and best of all it’s quiet. Even the kick tower only produces a dull thunk sound, which the neighbours won’t notice.
I deliberated between the Surge and Nitro kits, and I’m so glad I opted for the Surge. The mesh kick tower is quieter than I imagine the rubber kick tower on the Nitro would be, and the adjustable frame is good for saving space. As I may be moving from place to place in future, a kit that’s easy to assemble and adjustable is precisely what I needed.
Ordinary headphones can be plugged into the headphone jack; they don’t have to be fancy. You can also plug your phone into the drum module and play along to tracks.
My one concern was dust getting into the mesh pads and affecting the sensors, but a lightweight dust sheet quickly resolved this.
Great set, sounds good and looks good. The instructions that come with it are not clear enough and the pictures can be confusing since it is all is black and white. But youtube is here for the rescue not to forget Alesis website.
Velocit nella consegna.
Per il montaggio serve molta concentrazione (per chi non un batterista)
Effetto finale…bellissima!
First time I ever tried an electronic drum kit. I was not sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. Quality is really good the mesh heads are pretty good at replicating the real thing but with them being relatively small you need to be a really good shot so as not to keep hitting the rims. Plenty of sound choices to play with. The only real criticism is the volume through headphones is quite low. Brilliant for practise but will never replace the real thing.
Very good quality for price and works perfect with double bass! You can also use a program on your pc or laptop to have better sound quality and it works perfect with no delay on the hits!
For playing in an apartment, it’s great. It has a decent sound for the money and the dynamics are amazing. The drum pads are hyper-sensitive when tightened. The volume isn’t super when played through headphones. You can play your music with an aux cord, but some of the more electronic-based songs get distorted when played this way: think Michael Jackson songs. The rack is absolute crap. It’s all connected at the top with no T-legs or stibilizer bars, so it’s incredibly unstable. But definitely worth what you pay for it, as long as you don’t mind buying extra stealth racks or rack accessories to stabilize them.
I bought this kit to play when I couldn’t play my acoustic drums. I did a lot of reviews knowing that these are not the higher priced drums like the Roland but, I wanted the most for my money. I understand that Roland is what a lot of drummers like…Roland drums will never sound as good as an acoustic set…..these drum did exactly what I wanted!!! They sound good and can be tweaked to fill your needs…….I can hop on this kit at 3am and have fun……my neighbors dont hear a thing…..I think they look pretty sweet too…… black and chrome. I even added another cymbal…..it cant handle as many cymbals as I use with my acoustic but, you can make it work. I do notice a slight weird sound from the high-heat if you go too fast, not enough too prevent a purchase.
I have never played a real set of drums so I cannot compare it to an acoustic kit.
To set up probably took about an hour to figure it all out and then adjusting the height and position once put together.
It’s great fun and easy to find drum tabs to learn songs. It’s worth watching some videos to learn about the unit and how to do different stuff in the kit mode or learning mode. There’s also lots of song tutorials for the drums you can find that are easy to play and sound good.
There’s lots of pre set kits and when learning a song or beat I scroll through to find closest sound to what I want.
The pads are fairly quiet but the bass pedal you can hear downstairs so I added some foam boards under the pedal to drown out the noise.
Really happy with the kit and lots to play around with to improve your playing and to find the sound your after.
My sone loves his new drums and he plays them all the time. I’m not sure if we missed this in the description or if it’s not there, but we had to go out and purchase an HDMI cord .
My drum practice days ended the day we decided to have an Airbnb rental at our house – but now I can practice again! The sound is okay, not amazing but the ability to play anytime I want now is priceless. It’s a really nice set and feels similar enough to the real thing to be very satisfying. The cymbals feel the most different. The mesh heads are wonderful. I have had some problems with my Iphone XR saying that the drum module is not a compatible accessory. (UPDATE: I changed to a male to male aux cord with a little iphone adapter for the end and now it works). Oddly it will start playing for about 2 minutes and then I’ll get that error message. I tried different cords etc. and finally gave up and I’m using my laptop instead and that has been working fine. For the price it is terrific. I love that I can make a royal mess of things trying to work out new fills without having to be self conscious that my whole neighborhood is being subjected to my experiments. I can play in peace to my heart’s content. I really love it. It’s not absolutely silent but quite quiet. People in the next room may be able to faintly make out some tapping noises, but they can’t be heard outside the house or on a different floor inside the house. It feels like a miracle. So happy.
This is a brilliant kit. From first setting it up it feels solid and looks great. The support bars are notched inside, so will never rotate no matter how hard the pads are hit. The mesh heads are quiet and feel better to play than my acoustic kit! The only thing that does make some noise is the bass pad and pedal (the kick pad). The drum voices sound great and can be eadilychanged, so you can go from an acoustic kit to a rock kit (or pop or funk or Indian kit etc etc) at the press of a button. The Hihat pedal is really responsive and sound great, it is very responsive and behaves almost like my acoustic kit with a variable opening action. The whole kit is great but I think the Hihat action was perhaps the most impressive after reading reviews of other older kits.
I’ve played acoustic drums on and off for 40 years but if an edrum kit of this standard had been available, I would have got one years ago.
My 12 yr old is absolutely in love with this set. Hes self taught and amazing, loves the pre set drum kits
Love this set. Great for the space I have. I can control the volume and mix to play along with a song. Great feel on drum heads.
Incredibly pleased with how these turned out for the price!!! Still exploring all of the features but have had for 3 weeks and have been overly pleased!
Mesh kit is a plus and the bass drum tower is a great addition. Allows me to practice in my apartment. I wish there were more sounds. Maybe future updates will have more sounds.
Aunque sigo experimentando con el sonido considero que una buena batera para practicar sin molestar a nadie, tiene varios bancos de sonidos pero todos muy similares con unos contratiempos reales y platillos sin problema para tocar en un ba
Great beginner kit. The built in sounds are not very good but this can be easily fixed with addictive dums/ezdrumme
I decided to get back into drumming after a long time off. The product is excellent, and i only removed a star because if you live in an apartment then you will need to buy or make your own drum riser to reduce the sound of the bass pedal. Neighbors will be at the door if not as you are essentially stamping on the floor.
I was concerned that my sons would not be able to switch from acoustic to electronic drums but this kit makes that transition easy.
The setup was not too difficult (videos online helped) and they were up and playing straight away.
In high school, I played drums briefly with garage bands. No formal training, nothing to guide me except my ear and enthusiasm. Move the clock forward a “few” years and I decide that I’d like to learn drumming properly, but don’t want to disturb neighbors or let them hear how bad it is. After lengthy searching at various priced kits, this one appears to be the one that is ideal for me.
Two keys to this one over others. Price point and features. The Surge kit comes with a larger snare. That makes it slightly better than the Nitro, as well as having more sounds built in. As a beginner, I don’t need a performance ready kit. This will do just fine for beating the skins and learning as I go. Experimenting with sounds and kit combinations is down the road a way.
I highly recommend this as a great home kit for beginners and novices alike.
I finally went for it when mesh heads became available at a very affordable price. This thing is just fun and easily accessible stress management for me. No more do I have to worry about menacing my family and neighbors when I get the itch to rip on the drums for 10-30 minutes. I now play every day again.
I am not deeply versed with sound banks for electronic drum kits, but I have a saved kit with the Surge that perfectly fits my taste, and I enjoy tooling around with all the others. I’m sure that there are better ones out there, but for what you’re getting at this price point? It’s pretty amazing.
I DON’T love the hi-hat pedal. And the kinds/levels of hi-hat responsiveness is . . . decidedly limited. But again, for the price point, I’d be INSANE to complain or say that it’s a deal-breaker.
The snare and tom playability and variable sonic response are IMPRESSIVE. Lots of subtlety.
The big crash sounds sometimes choke themselves in the mix with a larger, busier drum performance. It’s a bit jarring, but as above . . . for the money, not an issue.
This has been a real joy. Would I ever use this live? HELL no. But I enjoy the kit daily, and that’s everything I could have hoped for.
Highly recommended.
Nice that it comes with 10″ snare. I also replaced the 3rd tom with a 10″ mesh pad and also added two cymbals to it!
The only thing needed is a user manual for the sound/drum module. Great product for practice in apartments so not to bother neighbors with noise.
My son loving it. This was his birthday present and now He is beating this drums out. Took me about an hour to put it together. Good product for the price.
Perfect kit for practice and tune up rusty skills… also for teaching little ones, I would say almost half way between toy and pro. Sturdy built, mesh heads rock, compact enough, easy to put together, good for the price.
Overall a great electronic drum set for the price. The build for the set was pretty straight forward in the directions provide. The feel is pretty good when playing. The mesh pads provide excellent rebound as do the cymbals. I wish that a dual zone ride was provided so the bell sound wasn’t velocity dependent. The provided foot pedal is okay. The spring holding tension to the pedal slowly unscrews as you play, so you need to tighten it ever 15 minutes or so of playing. For upgrade options for pedal, the kick tower is large enough to accommodate a double pedal if you plan to use one. The hi hat controller pedal works great. As far as the sounds go, all the tom, snare and bass drum sounds are excellent. The cymbal sounds are okay. The hi hat has three positions closed, open, and half open. What’s nice about the module is if you don’t like the sounds you can easily connect it to your computer via a usb type a to type b cable to use a vst to use any sounds you would like. I would definitely recommend this set to anyone looking for a cheaper electronic drum set option. The biggest pluses to this set as opposed to other sets in the same price range are that you get all mesh pads and you have an actual kick drum tower.
Bought this after reading numerous reviews. It came extremely quickly. Very easy to put together. Was up and running in no time. As a complete beginner was pleased to receive some bonus lessons on registering the product. I have enjoyed playing the kit, have bought headphones and it sounds great. Fingers crossed I can learn to play and do the kit justice.
I’m very new to drumming but, so far, this has been exactly what I hoped; a quiet, fun way of practicing between lessons. No noise complaints and very easy to set up. It also looks great and seems good quality so far.
Well, almost solid. As an old drummer that likes Tama and Sabian but can’t play loudly anymore I can say it’s nice to be able to play again without the neighbors complaining. It works perfectly out of the box on my 15 watt amp but didn’t include the amp cord. The frame is sturdy yet the four feet slide easily so I need to order some more frame peices to keep the feet in place. The bass pedal that hi hat pedal have two daggers each to dig into the floor but they still move so that’s also why I need to order those frame brackets so everything stops moving backwards. Other than that it’s probably what you’d expect from your first electric drum kit. Very good response and you’d never know you’re not beating on the real thing.
Bought it for a percussion student. We’re no experts but we’re very pleased with the drum set. We have little room for an acoustic set so we decided to go with this one. The boy is very happy with the mesh toms because the rebound is similar to the acoustic.
This is a great set and has many sounds and settings so that you can make just about any setup you want to have in front of you. It came neatly boxed, labeled, and the instructions were pretty simple.
I do have a few drawbacks, though. Some of the cables running from the module to the cymbal pads are rather short and leave very little room for personalization. I like to have my ride more to the left and my main crash to the right, and with this setup it isn’t possible, unless I set it up left-handed, which isn’t happening. They could also be a little more descriptive on what all the voices, sounds, and what-have-you things are in the module. I’ve spent hours running through hundreds of sounds and settings to find the one I want; however, please don’t get me wrong. I fully enjoy it and love this set. It’s definitely a must buy for the price.
First off I want to say that I bought these when they came with a fifty-dollar gift card to Amazon, so they really only cost $300. It also included one set of sticks and a drum key. I am writing this for two purposes…to critique them from an entry level set perspective, and their ability to work with a double bass.
From the double bass perspective, this kit’s base pad is sufficient for double bass. The pad is louder when hit closer to the center. As long as the beater hits someplace on the pad it will work. Mine has about an inch of play room on the side of each beater. If I center them, they work perfect. It’s only when they stray to the side that they are a little less loud. The pedal I chose does not fit very good as far as where it connects to the pad stand. To center the beaters, I have to move the peddle as far to the right as possible. It’s not real secure when I do it this way, and end up having to adjust/tighten it every 15 minutes of use, but this pad was not designed with double bass in mind. I am an engineer and I can just design a better piece to weld on that will be much better. Since I can do the drawing and give it to a friend that welds and is great at manufacturing parts, it’s only going to cost me the price of a piece of metal. I would imagine if you paid someone to do it, it would not be an inexpensive kit anymore. I would just buy a larger pad stand,if I didn’t have the ability to make one for free. That being said, there are other ways you could do it without welding…you could get some metal, drill holes, and bolt it to the existing pad stand. Also, there might be other pedals that would center easier than mine. I chose the TAMA HP200PTW Iron Cobra 200 Double Pedal, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B4XDWB6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and I am extremely happy with it. I had a DW pedal before, and it didn’t come close to comparing with this one. I think the DW was a hundred dollars more than the Tama as well, but this was 15 years ago, and double pedals may have been more expensive then. The performance of the Tama is by far the best of any pedal I ever used, and there are other things you can add to the pedal to make it faster. The point of this before I go in too many directions, is the pad itself has plenty of room for two pedals to strike it in the “sweet spot”, or close enough to the electronic trigger, to work perfectly. Finding a pedal that clamps on to the stand right might be a challenge; I don’t know, this is the only pedal I tried with it.
My previous, and first electronic kit was a Roland brian with Hart Dynamics drums. They were the same price as the Roland drums, only I liked the way they played better, and they came with a lifetime warranty. I’m not sure how long ago, but they went out of business: so much for the lifetime warranty. I had the DW 3000 double bass pedal, which at the time cost about $300 (the cost of this entire kit), and now they cost $250…double bass is much more popular now than it was back then…my hypothesis why the pedal went down that much after 15 years. The point I am making here, is that I am comparing the Alesis kit to that kit…which was from 15 years ago when electronic drums were nowhere near as prevalent as they are now. I also had the same drum throne; I liked it so I got it again.
From the entry level perspective: here are the reasons I did not give the kit a 5. It doesn’t come with a throne. Beginners might not think of that and be disappointed when it arrives and realize that they still need to order one. That can be a significant addition to the price of the kit. I found a throne I like for just under $60, Gibraltar 6608 Heavy Drum Throne. It’s comfortable, functional, and sturdy. I am a big man (about 300 lbs). This is my second one. I had the first one 15 years and it never had a problem, and like I said, I weigh a lot. I purchased both the throne and Tama pedal from Amazon, and I love them both. I copied and pasted the names on Amazon if you want to check them out. This kit does come with a single bass pedal by the way, so you don’t have to buy a different pedal. Some other things you will need are: A way to hear the kit – either headphones (the input jack is 3.5 mm), an amp., or a stereo to plug into. I also got some over the ear headphones (OneOdio) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6ZJH96/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 that are amazing for $30. The other thing that is a must have from my perspective it a cable to attach your phone or mp3 player. You will need a 3.5mm to 3.5 mm cable to plug into the headphone jack of your phone or player…same size into the Alesis brain. Here is the one I got…I like long cords when playing drums…hate it when I move and a cord tugs on me. By the way, there is nothing bluetooth or wireless in this kit:. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KWR8OZ4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The headphones I put a link for, also have a cord close to 10 feet, and a bunch of different ways and sizes to hook up that come with the headphones. I put all this extra stuff because if you are new to electronic kits, you might not think of it and be dissapointed when you have to rush out to buy headphones to hear them or a cord so you can hook up your mp3 player and play along to YOUR music. The kit does have some built in songs you can play with.
OK, so for the kit’s performance. The cymbols scare me as they don’t appear real sturdy, but work fine so far. The ride cymbal makes the bell sound when you hit it hard. I like using the bell, so I am wondering how long they will last. They work and sound great now. The only other kit I owned was Roland with drums the same quality. The mesh heads seem great. I get good bounce and they play like an acoustic drum head. The rim around the drum heads it high, and they take some getting used to. An 8″ drum isn’t a very big target to start with, and if you put a high ring around it…a bit challenging to say the least. The rims do make for easy, good sounding rim shots. All the pads are responsive with no delay. The stand is easy to put together, but this is my second one, and my friend that helped me works with me as an engineer. I would guess we can figure stuff like this out at least as good as the average person. Their assembly instructions suck, and if I didn’t understand how these go together already, it would have been really hard to put together. All the drum sounds I have heard so far sounded great.
Now, like I said earlier, my previous kit was a Roland brain, and drums I think were at least as good as Roland. Roland is the standard in electronic drums…just my opinion. I got that kit 15 years ago. I am sure all drum kits have evolved since then. Comparing the Roland kit from 15 years ago with this one, I would say the actual drum pads are very similar, and play almost exactly the same. The stand is just as sturdy. The cymbols seem about the same, but the Rolands didn’t need to be hit as hard to get the bell sound. Through headphones, the Alesis kit sounds almost exactly the same as the Roland did. I haven’t checked all the Alesis brain can do, but I think it probably does more than the Roland (15 years old) did. I am sure the new Roland brains do way more now. I think drums are like cars. The Roland is like a Bentley. Sure, it’s a nice car, but not that nice…In my opinion, a big part of it’s price tag is the name Bentley. So sure, maybe my new kit is like a Chevy, but it gets me where I need to go, it’s inexpensive to maintain and repair, and honestly, I think it looks a lot cooler than a Bentley. I have played drums on and off for almost 50 years. I have been away from it for 3 years, so I just wanted to check out an inexpensive kit for S and Gs, and I am glad I did. I don’t know how long it will last, but for now I am very impressed. I would highly recommend this kit.
I wonder if anyone will read all this…lol
My wife wanted a drum kit for Christmas, and we live in an apartment. As you may have guessed a drum kit does not bode well with neighbors. So after watching some youtube videos of electronics drum sets I decided this was the way to go. From my research three brands rose to the top of all the reviews. Roland, Alesis, and Yamaha. The Roland kits are pricey, but they get stellar reviews. Alesis was more affordable, and the reviews are awesome for them as well. I will be honest I did not read much into the Yamaha. I was already set it was going to be Alesis or Roland for my wife.
After much research I decided the Alesis Surge Mesh kit was the best for her. It had all the features she needed, some expandability, and the reviews were all good!
After she opened it, set up was relatively simple. Follow the instructions which are all in pictures. After all guys don’t read the words in instructions anyways. Sat the wife behind the kit, and adjusted it to fit her. And away she went. This kit is absolutely worth every penny. The drum kit sounds extremely well. Could not be happier with it’s performance!
Some side notes though! So yes this kit comes with every thing you need for it, and it alone! If this is your very first drum kit you will need a throne, amplifier, and drum sticks. The kit does come with some wood tipped sticks, but in the reviews these are not the best thing for a mesh kit.
My add ons to this kit!
-Zildjan nylon tipped anti-vibe drums sticks. Made for electric drums, and feel awesome!
-Simons DA50 Amplifier, this is a must if you want to hear your drums! Great little amp! This amp with the Surge Kit is a solid combo!
-Alesis Electronic Drum Head Set. These headphones are designed for electric drums and sound amazing. Remember that part about us living in an apartment? My wife can play as loud as she wants and all you hear is the tap of the stick to the pads! These headphones are a MUST (especially for parents with young trainees :p)
-Gibraltar throne… you got a nice drum kit…. sit on something that wont make your sore or tired! Gibraltar makes the best drum thrones.
-Vic Firth drum stick caddy, seriously this is a nice addition to ANY drum kit.
-Lastly get a quality 1/4″ cable to go between the control and the amp…. DO NOT CHEAP OUT! you will regret it!
All these items are available here on Amazon, or your favorite Guitar (ahem) place. 😀 Happy drumming!
Coming from Alesis Forge, this is a good step up with the mesh heads and design. Very comfortable and for a great price!
Wish the drums module was better but I’m guessing they had do downgrade somewhere so the can keep a good price range.
Love the product but wish there were training videos with it. I you tube stuff but still don’t know how to use the controller as efficiently as I want. But sound is great, and I am excited to keep learning!!
Bought this unit for my 16 year old daughter. She loves it. Uses it daily – teaching herself how to use the drums. Have listened to her from speakers and she is quite impressive!!! One of the best purchases I have made for her. The only purchase that she uses multiple times every day…
What can I say, recently, I purchase the Alexis Burst well after two weeks it became faulty. I thought it was the cable and contacted Alesis for a replacement. However, that did not resolve the issue. I was told to return the item to be fixed. After doing further research I decided to upgrade to the Surge. Best thing I ever did drums are so much better. Mesh is far better than rubber drums. It’s closer to an acoustic drum. One thing to note you do not get a stool or headphones.
My husband has wanted an electronic drum kit for well over a decade because it is extremely anti-social to practice with his hand made acoustic kit in a residential area.
He set it up to test it the day it arrived . I haven’t seen such a boyish grin on his face for a very long time.
I think for the money it is well worth eveery penny.
He ran through some of the programs -he had a great deal of fun with number 17 (Bongos)- and he really likes the versatility of the setings. It’s now been packed away again until Christmas so I might get back to you when he’s had more experience with it. So far so good!! 🙂
Xmas for my son, I have a higher end kit and for the price it’s fantastic!!! Great sound and sensitivity
Pros:
– excellent quality chrome stand. fixtures are top notch. easy to adjust
– mesh heads are really nice. High quality. Drum sticks reflect off the surface like a real drum
– I use a real drum set during lessons. The feel and response is very similar
– Normal drum sets are loud. This is reasonable … but the sounds, even on the mesh heads, are a bit louder than I expected
– Love the ability to mix in music and to play along
– can change the sound of any of the drums and cymbals. I ended up using the default
Cons
– instructions for setup weren’t entirely obvious. But not too bad
– even the online video wasn’t clear. For example, several of the pieces are bowed. Should they bow in or out? Also, I realized after the fact that the support fixtures work better one way than the other
– the electronic control box is complicated. Even after having read the instructions 3 times, it was not obvious to me how to record and replay sessions. For example, there is no glossary. The use terms like “kit” and “voice”. After some playing, realized that “kit” refers to the entire drum set, and that “voice” refers to the sounds generated by any one drum or cymbal. That said, I find I use the control module is a pretty basic manner: w/ music or using the metronome.
Still, I love this set, and am incredibly happy w/ my purchase and selection. If like me, you are returning to drumming after a several decade hiatus, and don’t want to annoy your other household guests, this is the set for you.
Really like the all mesh heads and the ability to adjust feel and response. Plenty of adjustment to set up the way you want. Nice set to start playing again that doesn’t take up a huge amount of room and has a reasonable price.
Surprisingly affordable for a mesh drumkit. Very customizable, sounds are impressive, for around $400 this is the best electronic drum set value. The large snare is especially great!
It is a good choice for this kind of price
Batterie gniale, cre des sons et des accompagnements superbe ..! Solide et facile ajuster ..Bravo Alesis ..!
Easy to set up and plays like a dream for the money. I am very happy with this product
