I’ve been using Mackie and Yamaha, but I’ve seen almost no benefits from either Mackie or Yamaha over the Behringer, and I suspect the other features from the Behringer will be worth well more than the savings.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’m a huge fan of this Behringer mixer. I produce a daily radio show, create radio commercials, and do a lot of audio editing, and this mixer has served me well. It’s got a ton of inputs, very flexible routing and four subs (2 stereo sub groups). The USB in/out is a nice bonus, but don’t buy this thinking it will serve as an audio interface. If you need an audio interface, get an audio interface. If you need a good, flexible, well thought-out mixer that’s also a very good value, get this.

This is my 3rd Behringer Xyenx….upgraded time this model and has more features than the others that come in handy when recording (the direct ‘outs’ for each channel) and the extra monitor ‘send’ makes live gigs easier for members to get their own mix.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersMy experience with Behringer boards begins in roughly 2001. I have used their boards of all sizes from the little X502 up to the Eurodesk-sized boards, and have personally owned five of them in that time. I have never had any problems with any of their products, and have always been happy with their performance. I’ve used them in live sound applications for theatrical productions, for some recording, and for live concerts. They offer numerous signal routing options which gives you a lot of flexibility.

When I found myself playing rhythm guitar in a nine-piece band, I needed as many channels as possible in a rack-mountable board. This, to my knowledge, is the largest rack-mountable board made by Behringer. Each time I buy a new board of theirs, it’s not because there is something wrong with the one I have, I simply need more channels or subgroups.

I mounted this board directly into the top panel of my SKB case. I like that it has a light socket on the top although I was a little irritated that it didn’t come with a gooseneck light. The USB recording functionality is cool, making this board worthy of being used in a recording application as well.

I’ve always found the Behringer boards are sturdy and produce quality sound at a price much less than other brands of similar quality. I highly recommend this, and any other Behringer board that suits your requirements in size or the number of channels, subgroups, or any other parameter.

    Great Board for Live Sound

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis is a great little mixer. It is clean and quiet with very good headroom. Back in the 1970s I used to build sound reinforcement mixers. The knobs on the ones I built cost more than this entire mixer does. It is quite a bargain. My only wish is that it had 100 mm faders instead of the short throw faders it comes with. Even so, they are very smooth and quite adequate for the job at hand.

There is alot of mixer for the price. Very good noise threshold with it. I use it with lots of synths. Effects are not bad but not the best but a small plus. Behringer’s reputation for making faulty equipment with poor quality control is completely unfounded. Likely put around by competitors who fear their competitive advantage. I have a lot of behringer gear. In all the years of buying the gear I have only ever had to return one effects pedal. The replacement has worked ever since perfectly. This is a very well made mixer with good components there’s nothing cheap about it. The compressors are subtle for inflating the volume per channel.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAn excellent mixer for the budget home studio, I feed it 8 mono and 4 stereo signals from two motu soundcards (pre-recorded or direct from various synths and drum machines) to do live mixes onto either external recorders or back into the computer. It also handles various external effect units via its returns and insert ports, I record everything back into the computer using the 2 track analog outputs (the USB output is only 16bit whereas you can use the analog outs and benefit from 24bit off a better soundcard). No issues so far, build quality is OK, the mutes and pre buttons mechanism feel a bit frail, time will tell. A very versatile tool with a decent price, good fun to use for that dub classic style mixing

I’m able to plug in 3 mics, 2 guitars, a bass, a keyboard, and 6 drum mics. I have direct outs feeding from the guitars to the amps. The main out going to a P.A. System and a field recorder. as far as the effects, I haven’t messed with them too much yet but the room tone effects / reverb seems to make the musicians happy.

I bought this for my church. I have used Behringer products before for pro studio and live use, so I knew what to expect — i.e., nothing really fancy but good sound at a decent price. This replaced a prior version of this Behringer mixing board that was approaching a decade of service (mind you, only used once a week on Sundays). For simple applications like this you can’t go wrong for the money. NB: We don’t use the effects at all and am not recommending those. I have always found that the effects processors that are built-in to boards don’t sound very good. For effects I would recommend an out-board processor. My 5-star rating is just for the mixing components of this products such as the faders, connectors, and clarity of the sound (i.e., lack of noise).

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThere is not a lot bad you can say about this mixer. It has pretty much all the bells and whistles you could ask for, has tons of inputs, multiple aux sends, and direct outputs for just about everything.

I use this mixer for my podcast, and I am using the aux sends to do mix-minus setups which I output to PCs and iOS devices running Skype via the microphone jack on the PC and iOS devices. This way with each Skype caller on their own mix, I can take the output of those individual Skype instance and run them as inputs into the mixer. I send both the stereo main mix to my Zoom H6 recorder and also the direct outputs for each input to the recorder as well on their own tracks, so I have both a pre-canned mix for my convenience and also individual track recordings in case I need to tweak something specific (a caller forgets to use the mute button, for example). I run a sub mix containing all inputs except my own voice, and send that to the headphone monitor, so I don’t have to deal with hearing my own voice.

The only minor negatives about this mixer are:

    1) You can’t configure input levels for the USB input (you must adjust them with the output level on the device that is using the mixer as an output device)
    2) You can only route the main mix to the USB output. It would be nice if you could configure it to take one of the aux sends or one of the sub mixes.
    3) Level indicators seem to be set for a really high output level. Even though my recorder is set to handle line level outputs, by the time the level indicators on the mixer register much of anything, the levels on the recorder are pinned to the max and clipping. Not ideal, but not difficult to deal with as I just go by the level indicators on the recorder instead.

Those are only minor complaints though. Really this mixer can do just about anything you would want a mixer to do.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersI think this is a great mixer. It’s my second Behringer mixer. My previous one, a UB1204FX was used almost daily for 10 years. It’s still going strong, but is just a bit too small for the needs of our band. I use the X2442USB for recording and as a live desk for my band. It’s a great design and offers all that I need from a mixer. The thing with gear like Behringer is that it has to be judged in the context of it’s target application. Affordable stuff like this just didn’t exist a few years ago, so for gigs we would all be plugged into some massive 4 channel Peavey or HH PA heads which might have a spring reverb if you were lucky. Home recording was on a cassette porta-studio if you could afford it. Now with gear like this we can get pro-quality functional gear at a very affordable price. I am an ex sound engineer who spent many years in recording studios in the 80’s and 90’s. In those days only huge SSL desks had compressors on every channel, and many of the ‘pro’ digital reverbs we had didn’t sound as good as the effects on the X2442USB. The effects are a little noisy, but quite useable if driven hard enough, more than good enough for live applications. I really like the compressors, not much control, but the settings are a good compromise of attack and compression ratio. EQ is functional and adequate. I tend to use plug-ins on my DAW for recording anyway. Direct channel outs are a great addition, and 4 aux sends is a luxury. It’s just a really well designed desk which covers everything I need t for. Sure it’s no Neve, it’s not as quiet and has more crosstalk than the real pro stuff, but really, in the pubs and clubs we play, or on the MP3 recordings we make streamed online, i defy anyone to tell the difference.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWhat a beauty this is for our gigs. We play outside and it is a real job to get the guitars and vocals all set up, but with this unit, it is very easy and once I am close, minor adjustments are easily made. Everything is readily visible and the slider keys do a good job of fine tuning and balancing out the sound from different mikes and guitars. It is not a true 24 input as I count the number of mike holes it has, but for up to 12 units, you have good control. Another friend just ordered a 20 hole unit which is like a 36 input.

  54. bublesli2 says:

     United States

Once you read the manual and a few helpful websites so you can master the basic controls, this mixer is awesome. The stereo USB input into my Mac works without any driver needed. Behringer only supplies free softrware for Windows users, so Mac people are left to install Audacity and other audio software for themselves. No big penalty. Not a big surprise either, but too bad though, they advertise Mac compatibility, then completely ignore the software side for a large percentage of media creators.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI bought this desk a couple of weeks ago to replace an older Soundcraft mixer. Although it’s only had limited use so far I’ve been really happy with it. The many routing options make it a versatile companion to any small studio set up or live gig. I was slightly disappointed that the USB interface only works as a 2track/tape option and doesn’t give all the direct outs from each channel, but there are analogue outs for all the channels and this is only a minor problem with a mixer that costs 270. Great value for money and a solid piece of kit.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersAbsolutely brilliant value for money. This is The One.
Always check that the number of outputs is true to what you require; we bought the smaller model first not realising that a lot of the ‘outputs’ were in fact stereo, so we didn’t have enough and had to upgrade to this. Behringer are the best make, no doubt about it.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersLooked at a lot of similar products within the price range but had a smaller Behringer mixer already. For live work we needed something with a little more control both out front and foldback and this little desk does the lot. Decent effects, it’s really easy to control, loads of AUX outputs and you can use the usb to record straight into your computer. The compressors on each of the main channels is a great bonus. Unbelievable value for money. I’d have no qualms in recommending it to anyone.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is one the best purchases that I have made lately. The more that I use it the more I love it. It’s extremely versatile. It works well as a live mixer and it has become my ” Go To” board for recording. As a live board I use the sub mixes and fx busses but in the studio I use it primarily as an 8 in 8 out pre amp to feed a Focusrite Pro 40 that interfaces with ProTools 9.
I will admit that I had my doubts about the “one knob” compression at first but it not only works, it works well.
This is just one of many Behringer products that I own.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersTo start with, this is not a true 24 channel mixer, however, there are 24 inputs on this board. There are only 10 mic preamp xlr ports, with another two L/R inputs for a keyboard or similar. That being said, there are some things you can do to maximize your inputs and that’s where this board really shines. By using Y cables, you can combine things like backup vocals or some drum mics into one feed, and get more sound into the board. One of the things I like most about this board is the fact that it has a 4 bus structure, providing the ability to personalize 4 monitor feeds. I bought this because I plan to run in ear monitors with my band, and we can get a customized mix for each member using this setup. This is the best small format mixer available!

-The eq is a little sensitive, and the mid sweep is an awesome feature.
-IF YOU ARE GETTING THIS FOR THE USB; It only sends two tracks through USB. I was hoping this would be an inexpensive alternative to a Projectmix IO, But it is not.
-There is sowftware drivers for it, and dialing in the latency can get tricky, But i just hardlined out to a USB interface. Works flawlessly, and I get two output sources for the mix.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve had this for about 6 months now. No road use, just moved once and it’s doing great. Enough functions for the price it fetches. I use it for just one mic and a set of headphones, and then with every channel filled, and am happy all around. I’m not a professional sound man, just a band guy that’s looking for a mixer to get all the channels into one place so we can run them through the biggest god damn speakers we can find and break some windows with the sound waves. So far I haven’t run into any limitations inherent with the mixer itself that you wouldn’t already know by the number of channels, fx offered, grouping, etc. USB even works well, but you can only send the main mix through the USB, nothing else specifically.

  68. JosephiSiebenha says:

I purchased this mixer primarily as a pickoff between band’s mics and instruments and their PAs so I can capture 4 or 8 channels of audio with Zoom recorders. I have used it on two shoots and the results are outstanding. For larger groups I anticipate using the submix capability to mix groups of voices/instruments.

Wasn’t sure what to think of this mixing board when I ordered it. We do a podcast and we needed more XLR and 1/4 inputs and we need to bus some signals from multiple computers and other misc devices. This board is really great for us. We can have up to 10 mics/xlr’s hooked up at a time. It gives easy volume control, sfx and other options. It has also just made our show sound a lot more crisp. It has also helped the sound of our prerecorded sound bites, promos, intros and our guests music (live or MP3’s).

We have only been using it for 3 weeks and we have many more functions to learn and use. I also like how all 10 mic inputs are phantom power. So now I can go buy more Condenser Mics to improve our sound even more. Another nice feature for us podcasting is that we can easily add a phone line to this mixer and get great sound. We will now be able to have a phone system and we are excited about this. Our sound engineer is very happy with this device.

I bought this unit to replace an 11 year old Mackie that took a lightening strike. With the Mackie we had some problems with signal levels into our CD recorder. The Behringer does not suffer that problem. I can balance all the channels and get plenty of signal into the CD recorder. There is plenty of signal from the SUB outs as well as the AUX sends. The unit also provides some simple effects such as reverb on the AUX 3 channel which is useful to us when our guitarist plays on Sundays. Overall this is a great unit for the price.

Golden Review Award: 23 From Our UsersI have owned this Behringer XENYX X2442USB mixer for about 3 weeks now. I think, for the price, it is definitely a steal! I use it to record my drum practice at home. I use Shure PG mics, el-cheapo Radio Shack vocal mics, and I also connect my iPod and a CD player to it. My usage is not very sound-quality critical and does not involve travel/gigging either. Also, this is my first experience with professional mixers so my knowledge and experience is limited. First, built quality of this mixer is OK for my usage, but I would not describe it as rugged at all. The chasis (except for side panels) is entirely metal but of a light gage, and with plastic knobs sticking out from everywhere in the control surface I would think this thing would have to be handled with a lot of care if it were to be used for live gigs where constant travel is required. The side panels are made of soft-touch plastic and can be easily removed and replaced with included rack mount brackets which is how I set it up. This works just fine on a standard 19″ rack. Functionally, everything works just fine and the sound is clean and warm. I should demystify the descriptons you see in advertising: this mixer has 10 mic ins, 8 of them have the full complement compressor and EQ functions, the remaining 2 (channels 9-10 and 11-12) are in a shared configuration of mic in OR stereo line in, do not offer compression, and the EQ has two fixed-frequency mid-range level controls instead of a parametric adjustable frequency/adjustable level controls. The remaining channels (13-14 and 15-16) are stereo line-level only. I have not found any hum or hissing on the headphone outs, main outs, control outs, RCA 2 TRK outs, nor USB digital out. The XLR mic ins, line TRS ins, RCA 2 TRK ins, and USB digital ins (the USB interface is bi-directional and stereo) work perfectly. I have not tested any of the inserts, direct outs, sub outs, or aux ins/outs yet. One feature which is only hinted to in the manual which initially confused me but later found to be good, is that the RCA 2 TRK outs will not output any signal that comes in from the RCA 2 TRK ins (event if 2-TRK/USB to MAIN toggle is engaged), and signals sent to the USB digital interface will return to the mixer (if echoed back by the recorder or whatever is connected to the mixer’s USB interface) but can not be sent back via USB again. This is all to prevent a feedback loop. Also, the design of the unit seems pretty well thought out: I installed a goose neck light on the BNC light connector which turned out to be a defective light and the mixer heated up somewhat and shut itself down automatically after a while, so the mixer appears to have some protection functionality embedded that is not advertized. This happened a couple times and the mixer came out unharmed every time. A disadvantage I have encountered is that most of the push down toggle switches do not have an associated light to indicate they are engaged (only the solo, mute, and compressor switches/knobs do.) You have to visually determine this by looking at the switch or by pressing the button to figure out if it is already depressed or not, which is not always easy/convenient. I guess you can’t have everything at this price level 🙂 The indicator lights for the compressor only flicker on/off when actual compression/limiting of peaks is taking place, so even when engaged, the light will not come on if the input signal is low level. This is not clear on the manual either. The integrated FX box works fine, however, you can not assign different effects to one channel vs another, you can only select one effect and apply it to zero, one or more of any of the input channels. Also, the main mix via any of the main analog outs and the USB interface is only one stereo channel. To output multiple stereo/mono channels simultaneously you have to use the direct outs (and set mix levels externally) and/or the sub outs. The USB interface does not support multi-channel output/input. The USB interface worked quite nicely with my iPad using the iPad USB adaptor that comes with the iPad camera connection kit and the Sudio Mini XL app which I use as an 8-track (non-simultaneous) digital recorder. All in all, I think I got an incredible amount of functionality and flexibility for my money and I am very satisfied with the results. I am still experimenting with the X2442USB but this has been my experience so far.
