This is great for drilling into masonry. I’ve used cheaper corded hammer drills in the past and had no luck drilling into concrete lintels. With this drill it’s so easy. You’ll need some SDS drill bits (6 for 19) and if you want to use it with regular drill bits for woodwork you will need an adapter, which costs just under 20. It comes in a nice box, which you can store the adapter and drill bits in too. My only gripe is that the manual isn’t very clear at explaining the features of the drill. Rather than a few pages translated into 14 other languages, I would prefer a longer english version written for beginners, even if it is just available online.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI battled for an hour with an older Bosch hammer drill and masonry bits to drill holes in hard stone, to attach an outside water tap. #Fail

I bought this. Transformative impact – three deep holes drilled in a mere couple of minutes.

BUT make sure to buy the SDS easy-fit drill bits. I didn’t at first (the product blurb says to use SDS bits, but does not emphasise it) and bought normal bits, so wasted some money.

NB too that this is quite a big heavy powerful drill for grown-ups – the box won’t fit on the well-sized shelf where the old Bosch 600 box lived happily.

Good news for me. Bad news for Bosch. My drilling needs for the rest of my life are met.

I used it for breaking concrete and drilling into concrete
It did it easily, reasonably quiet as well
Let the weight of the drill do the work, applying pressure doesn’t help, and gives you backache!

Rarely do reviews here but I suppose many will be looking at this rotary hammer drill because they couldn’t complete a job with their normal drill.

I had to do a 10mm x 70mm hole in a concrete ceiling on a new build. A normal hammer drill I had with Bosch bits couldn’t even do a couple of cm with a 6mm bit. This drill went through the concrete like butter (or like hard frozen butter). I didn’t even need to use larger and larger bits. A single 10mmx20cm was used to do everything. It is simply a game changer vs a normal drill so if you are here because you are stuck not being able to complete a job this is the tool you are missing.

Bosch also sells a blue version for 20-30. As always, for an odd job this consumer edition will do the job. I am just sorry that some bits feel cheap like the depth-gauge that is plastic and doesn’t look like it will last long.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersFantastic drill, specially when I got it on a Black Friday 50 offer.

Had to buy some SDS drill bits with it, and a converter chuck for normal bits, but otherwise it’s good! Comes with a plastic case.

3 modes: normal drill, hammer drill, hammer only / chisel mode. Has a comfy front handle that can be repositioned, as well as a measuring stick for depth. A tad heavy but not overly so.

It does NOT have a torque selector, but you can control speed with the trigger.

My only wish is that it had a safety! (To prevent accidental trigger press), I keep having to turn it off at the switch between jobs.

Well worth every penny 5stars.

This drill is way better than I expected for what I paid here on Amazon.
Bought to drill through wall of house to install cat flap. Completed today.
Just use with decent bits and by decent I mean something like DeWalt and this drill goes through brick like a knife through butter.
Spent less than 100 or so on tools to do this job including the drill. A builder would have charged that plus VAT….so basically the drill and bits are free.
    Very happy.

I bought this when my old hammer drill finally dies after about 10 years hard labour.

Wish I had changed sooner: this Bosch drill is brilliant, especially the chissel function: I just used it to demolish a small wall in my garden and clean the bricks ready for re-building.

So quick and easy to use: I would recommend it to anyone.

My previous 14v cordlesss hammer drill simply couldn’t get through granite. With this mains powered rotary hammer, granite was a breeze. It doesn’t even feel like it’s vibrating much, and isn’t loud, but it cuts through quickly. Just remember you need SDS Plus bits, or an accessory to allow normal bits (but if using the accessory, don’t use hammer action).

Having had endless problems with hammer drills I finally decided to get an SDS. I was not disappointed.
What previously took 10 minutes between drilling and waiting for the bit to cool now takes literally seconds.
I have drilled red brick, slate, concrete, reinforced concrete (using Makita bits) and no hole has taken longer than 30 seconds.
The unit isn’t the lightest drill I’ve ever had but has better performance than all home drills I’ve tried.
I have sinces purchased an SDS to chuck key adapter and got rid of all my old drills. It even managed a 24mm wood auger through 8″ of pine like a hot knife through butter.
For a casual DIYer you will not be disappointed.

After realising my B&D Multievo electric screwdriver (with the correct drill bits) just wasn’t going to best brick walls, I opted for this Bosch. It’s an absolute breeze to use, really simple dials and does the job quickly. I’ve been putting up stuff left and right since getting it. It was really helpful coming with the SDS bits too, as I was unsure which size to go for.

I’ve only knocked off a star because it’s obvious the particular one I received was an unused return (sticker seal broken, no cable ties, etc)

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersI’m by no means a lover of D.I.Y but we had a fire place removed and the marble hearth ripped up which left a bit of a mess! To cut a long story short I needed to put new floor board down on a hardened concrete base, I bought some concrete screw and tried to do this with my trustee Makita combi drill in hammer mode……So that didn’t work out so well and after barely imprinting in the concrete the battery would die and my marvelous D.I.Y would be on hold. Until I saw this beast mentioned on a YouTube tutorial on drilling concrete….I received the drill plugged it in and literally within 10 minutes I had 8 pilot holes done and ready to screw down the boards!! There really is no substitute for using the right tool for the job in hand and this drill performed amazingly!

It does what it says on the tin eg it’s a hammer drill. It is heavy, it’s not particularly easy to use but then what hammer drill is, and you have to buy special bits for it. I’ve only used it once to drill holes in a solid wall for shelving and it still took a lot of effort for it to go through the wall but it is easier than the standard drill.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersVery pleased with this drill – first time I’ve had an SDS type – will certainly go with this type again if needed. I recommend getting the extra accessory of a chuck to take normal (non-SDS) drills, so you can use any existing non-SDS drills you might have. NOTE: I understand that you can’t use the hammer function with this chuck accessory. Only slight concern is that the chisel function is not very string – it will only chisel light stuff like tiles etc, not hard concrete.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI bought this to use as a chisel to remove old plaster/mortar and tiles from my bathroom. On the plaster/mortar it worked very well but the tiles had been stuck on with cement and this drill was not up to it. The chisel just bounced off. I ended up buying a much heavier drill also which did the job, but that was far too heavy to reach the high bits. I needed both types of drill as it turned out.
Overall, it’s a very good drill/hammer drill/screwdriver but it’s chisel capabilities are limited. Nice light weight for prolonged use.

  81. James Nettleton says:

This is an excellent tool for drilling holes in hard masonry. My old conventional hammer drill just bounced off the extra hard brick my new house is made of. This makes neat holes for wall plugs in double quick time.

Be aware that an sds drill is useless for conventional drilling wood etc. It’s for hammering. Also be aware this is a lightweight. That’s no bad thing if you want to use it perched up a ladder. Its good for chiselling for elecrrical boxes and wire conduits. But if you want to break up a concrete path you’ll be better hiring a heavyweight wrecking drill.

Don’t forget to buy some ads plus bits as well!

  82. Anonymous says:

Only used for drilling into masonary so far which it does with no effort whatsoever, much nicer than a conventional hammer drill while being quieter and significantly quicker in use. Have used 5.5, 6 and 7mm bits both long and short, all resulting in clean, straight holes every time, (the walls are hard in this house and using a cordless hammer tended to result in the bit wandering). I do have some tiling to remove sometime soon so look forward to trying the drill with chisel bits as opposed to wielding a lump hammer/chisel for hours on end. Some have mentioned the price, I bought mine when a little over 60 delivered, for that price it’s a great tool.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOnly used it a few times so far, but it is what I wanted. Not big and heavy but easy to use. Although it may be too light weight for the heavy end of business, this works for me and serves my purposes. Not sure it is a capable screwdriver, in truth, but again that is not a concern for me but could be a real issue for others. I bought the adapter chuck as well and that really compliments nicely. Almost essential (why not part of the kit I wonder). All comes in a good sensible plastic case and of course, it’s a Bosch.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought predominantly for drilling into solid granite. Have a cordless deWalt which is good but can’t touch this Bosch for this specific job along with good quality bits. Also bought the adaptor which enables the use of all my existing bits. Very impressed wondering if there is a stand this will fit into…..

The best drill I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a few!). Easy to use and no job seems too tough for it.

Top quality drill. I had put it through its paces on brick, concrete and stone and it passed with flying colours.I would definitely recommend this bosch drill.

    PROS

    * Quality SDS drill
    * Had 2 years’ heavy use out of it and it’s still going strong

    CONS

    * Doesn’t come with any drill bits
    * No space in the case for anything except the drill

Very good drill and goes through the toughest of walls with ease the only downside is that you have to buy an extra bit for the drill bits so comfy in your hands not much vibratio

you will never go back. old hammer drill used to wander over the wall on old plaster, making very heavy weather of any job. this one is like hot knife through butter. should have bought one years ago

A great tool for DIY. Well put together and makes drilling into very hard walls a breeze. Hope it lasts as long as my last Bosch drill.

This is a solidly made and ergonomic drill, but you have to remember that you need special drill bits for this type of drill.

Does the job it was designed for. Not too heavy compact and in a useful case. Could have come with a few standard bits

Golden Review Award: 50 From Our UsersI love the drill but have some issues with Amazon, read on.I have used one of these (belonging to my son) for several weeks now. It is a solid and very easy to use piece of equipment. Robust and pretty well made, certainly much better that all the easten rubbish about in this day and age. An SDS converter attaches easily and allows ordinary drill bits to be used so no need to restock all those bits you already have. The drill, particularily for a fairly powerful SDS type is quite compact. The weight is nice and the feel of the drill is comfortable. Being an SDS also elliminates the need for a chuck key as the SDS drill bits just insert and a simple twist holds all in lpace. A word of advice / warning. Keep this well lubricated or a drill bit will either not be able to be engaged or as an alternate will be all but not capable of removal. PRICE, Being 85.95 I accepted the price on face value as being fairly average, I took the lazy route (being a member of the Prime delivery service with Amazon) and ordered without pricing elsewhere. Whoops, bad idea. The Prime next day before 1pm was not met. I have noticed that Amazon prices have been getting less compeditive and customer service standards falling. I belatedly typed the model number in a search engine to discover this drill not just cheaper elsewhere but massively cheaper in some cases. (49.99 at homebase at all places, reserved through cashback site plus nectar points takes another 7.00 off) The moto, check out the prices elsewhere. Amazon are charging me for the return postage as it is being returned in the cheaper, elsewhere circumstances. The price difference is so huge it would be silly not to do so. If they offered a pricematch, I would not return.

Needed a powerful drill for getting through metal and masonry lintels and this fits the bill perfectly. No loss of power like some cordless drills either!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersNeeded to put up a curtain rail above me back door and my long suffering cordless was not up to drilling into the lintel above the door. Drills go hot but made no impression on the concrete. With this baby it was like using a hot knife on buter. A joy to use and more jobs looking more possible. A great buy although dont bother paying for express delivery – bought this at Christmas with normal delivery and it arrived 2 days after my order.

Have turned my attention to outside walls and again this could turn me into a DRILL bore – its a joy to use.

A great drill and rapid service from Amazon.

Just need them to start paying tax in this country and they would be perfect.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersAs you would expect from Bosch, this drill does exactly as you would expect. Plenty powerful enough for DIY job I can envisage, yet not too heavy either! And very good value in my opinion.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersGot this in the morning and already managed to take over square metres of old plaster. Goes through it like butter. Lightweight for the size. The sds bit is fantastic and some much easier than before. Bought the adapter to use my old drill bits and this installs really, easily As well. Highly recommend to buy. Worth the money.
