I bought another brand some years ago but the water was so luke warm that you could stick your finger in the glas and not get burned.

So I had given up hope of ever finding a proper hot water dispenser that actually boiled the water.

But I gave the Breville Brita model a shot and boy, FINALLY proper HOT water for black tea.
Can’t tell you how happy I am.

    Ps.
I have 10amp fuses in the kitchen and since this is a 3000w boiler minimum 13amp fuses are recommended.

As long as I don’t have other high watt appliances running at the same time the momentary increase in power consumption by the Breville is ok for me anyway.

    Super happy so far.

We bought this for mum who had trouble lifting her kettle and using a separate Brita filter. She has arthritis in the wrists so it seemed a good idea as long as she could use it. We should not have worried. Easy to use, boils nice and hot for tea and the variable flow guage is useful for different sized cups. A Brita filter as part of the kit is also useful if your in a hard water area. she loves it and wouldn’t be without it now. A really worthwhile purchase.

This is our third one as there are 7 in this house so gets a lot of use. The machine is great only marked down because filters are always getting air locked and have to be removed and given a good shake

We needed a beverage maker for a small office. This works well and so far the results are very good. It is easy to use. There is no odd taste. It boils water to a high temperature. It is easy to clean. The controls are simple to use. The amount of water dispensed is adjustable. You have to remember to adjust it after the previous person but there is an emergency stop if you have your wits about you. There’s an overflow tray so Breville seem to have thought of everything, well done. Great product at a reasonable price. Looks to be well built although time will tell on that score.

Really easy to use and makes a hot drink very quickly only downside is wish it had a bigger water tank. Nice looking machine

I love this, the design is great, it is quite heavy and you have to fill the filter several times before you reach the max mark ok the kettle. I had assumed that it would allow you to boil the whole pot at once for when you need a full kettle of hot water but that is not the case. It really is a one cup so I am not sure I would buy another one. I can only assume it is energy efficient as ive only had it a week so havent seen an electric bill ye

Works well. No water waste. Filter works fast, no too much hanging around waiting to refill. It looks smart and fairly discreet. It’s costs about a penny per cup. It’s fast. So much faster than a kettle and more quiet. Water filter display is to dark for me but my eyes aren’t young. The cup full knob is excellent. Halfway is 250ml. Perfect for my cup. Not sure what this cup warm thing is. Can’t say I’ve seen it but my cup is warm like any other cup filled with hot water lol.
    Very good would recommend

I love hot cup dispensers, I do find the filling of this a longer process because of the water filter, but we live in a hard water area and the previous dispensers, without a filter, have slowed output and become so inefficient (despite descaling) that we needed to repace them, a family member had a filter in theirs and its lasted 3 of our replacements.

A normal Brita helps with our very hard water but a scum on the tea is normal for us. However with the double filtering of filling this machine from a filter jug this has been solved (so far). 2 months in, after a replacement filter (for both) and a limescale treatment we still have pristine tea and coffee. No scum. Highly recommended.

Bought this on a recommendation from our son – and what a difference! Already had a water filter integrated into our kitchen taps so was getting decent drinking water, and the kettle was a better quality one than many, but the combination of this being able to dispense one cup only – along with it having a Brita filter – is so efficient! And the taste is so much better than even our old filtered water it’s like chalk and cheese!

    Happy people here!

Fantasy item . I love how the water filter is combined with hot cup to hit up as much as you need for a cup of tea instead of the whole water in the kettle.
Another function that I like as well is that you can adjust the amount of water to be heated depending on the size of the cup you’re using.

All in all, very happy with this.

Great product, works well, love the option to adjust the amount of water dispensed to suit various cup sizes. My only criticism is the cost of the replacement filters, we have overcome this by removing the actual filter from the dispenser altogether and installing a filter tap along side our kitchen sink, this was significantly cheaper than buying the Brita filters and mean all our drinking water is filtered not just what we boil!

Not quite what we were looking for. As an elderly couple, in the end our old kettle was more familiar for day to day use. For a person with vision issues, it may be difficult to see where the fill line is. Otherwise, it was a quality item bought for us as a gift from a relative, but in the end this hot water dispenser was just not ideal for us. The return was easy enough, and the seller was prompt with their refund to our relative.

This is fantastic. My son is on the autistic spectrum and also ADHD. He makes his own hot drinks but had no attention span so can’t wait for a kettle to boil and will always fill it more than needed and with wondering off it would sometimes need boiling a couple of times. This stops this perfectly to alleviate this as he preps his cup, puts in under and presses the button, in less than a minute his cup is filled and he can finish making his drink. Saves so much on reboils or someone else going in and using the water then him having a meltdown because he’s got to start again. My only quip would be it doesn’t get the water to boiling point, it gets it to 90. Works great for drinks but sometimes I will need boiling water so have to sort it, luckily it’s only rare occasions so it’s something I can live with. For those using it for drinks it’s perfect, just thought I would mention it in case someone looks at getting one and assumes it fully boils the wate

We bought this to replace an old Tefal Quick Cup that broke. It works in a slightly different way but is much quieter, the only downside is you need to keep it topped up to allow time for the water to pass through the filter. We found it easier to keep a one-litre jug nearby and keep topping up with that rather than lugging the entire caddy back and forth to the tap. After a small adjustment we’re quite happy with it, water is always boiling hot and you can dial the precise amount to fill your favourite mug.

I saw this on a few sites and thought what a great idea for my mum. Easy to set up and the water filter is an added bonus. You soon figure out your cup sizes. Breville normally do sandwich toasters hadn’t purchased a kettle or anything of theirs before. However back to the main point my mum finds it very easy to use and she doesn’t need to fill up a kettle when she want to make a cuppa.
Wasn’t the cheapest place to buy it, however the ‘place that never knowingly undersold’ was out of stock.

I had the one without the brita filter before but a relative borrowed it very long term! This one would also be great if it didn’t take sooooooo long to fill. You have to wait while it filtrrs through and the fill tank is very small so needs many fills to filter down to main tank

I bought this because I was forever filling up the kettle for tea , something I drink a lot of , the appliance works very well , one mug or cup very quickly , the water is hot enough for tea but not boiling so much as a kettle (in my opinion) However I am forever filling this up , I would suggest if you drink a lot of tea or coffee a day buy a larger capacity by water volume , still pleased with i

We were very wary of this product as we have previously had a “instant boil” kettle before. Also the reviews on here were rather misleading. This version definitely pumps out very hot water. The product information says it doesn’t discharge the water until it’s at 100 degrees centigrade.
Obviously the water can’t be still at 100 degrees when it gets into the cup, however we feel it’s certainly hot enough. This is the VKJ367-01 version, I believe some negative reviews are not based on this model.

This heater works great for our needs. The adjustable water quantity is really useful, although it is non-linear (sorry, I’m an engineer!). However we soon got the hang of where to set the adjustment knob for our various cups etc. A great time and energy saver that looks good too.

Great for 1 cup at a time saves energy as you don’t have to boil a full kettle , you only boil 1 cup . Easy to adjust level of water to suit the size of cup . Easy to clean and fill, the removable tray catches an excess water and it just clips off to empty .

After reading the reviews here on Amazon I had mixed feeling about purchasing this machine, but after shocking the reviews carefully the negative ones were regarding a different model number to this one.

The water is really hot when dispensed and you can make a cuppa and let it cool, it doesn’t have to drunk straight away.

Filling the tank does take a little while but there is enough water filtered through for one cup after 3-5 minutes. I have found simply topping it up after making a brew the easiest way to keep it ready for action!!

I have only had it a few days but I am really impressed with it, no splashing, no over boiling and the improved taste because of the filter is great.

Bought this for my elderly Mother who has arthritis. She can no longer hold a hot Kettle safely. She lives in a hard water area so the filter was essential.
She is very happy with it as she can now have a cup of tea “on the go,” whenever she likes.
The filter means it’s slightly more fiddly to fill, but the pros massively outweigh the cons

I love this product it looks good and does a great job, I would have given 5 stars, however I have only given four stars as I still haven’t worked out how to stop it from boiling should I change my mind (a normal kettle you just flick the switch to off). I probably just need to sit and read through the instructions again, but other than that it’s a great product and I feel very happy to recommend it.

Arrived well in time, was well packaged .
I gave up on buying ‘normal’ kettles a few years ago as I found them too slow plus they used up a lot of electricity so in my view not cost effective.
The Breville Brita hot cup water heater is stylish , comes with spare filters takes seconds to start boiling . You can choose the size of the cup/mug used.
You can fill it up from the tap or from a jug as it has a flip up lid .
Very easy to use I am well pleased .

Bit sceptical at beginning, but, after getting used to it for a few days, we love it.. so quick, convenient and easy to use. Only one criticism, needs a bigger header tank because with the britta filter is slow to fill up, so gotta keep it topped up. Otherwise great idea and machine. 1 britta filter lasts up to 4 weeks, so bought 6 extra, not really expensive of amazon. And you get clean filtered water for your cuppa, and reduces limescale which has proven a pain in the models without. 4.5 outta 5

Purchased this to replace my kettle and love the fact that I can boil one cup or more if needed. It boils very quickly so, on that grounds I would say it is energy efficient. I was disappointed however, on on packing it because the water container was shorter and wider than I’d managed; it is not as aseptically pleasing as I had hoped. I have kept it nonetheless and it has grown on me.

I would recommend this product but don’t be fooled by the picture; perhaps it was airbrushed to make it lick slimmer!

Purchased this to replace onecup that has served me well for 7+ years.
Being disabled I find pouring kettles difficult and dangerous, but with these dispensers it’s easy and much safer.
The Breville Brita hotcup is larger than I expected, looks smart, and does the job well. You can easily adjust the volume of water dispensed to suit the size of your cups. It has a built in water filter, which can be removed if you prefer, so I no longer need to faff with separate filter jug. The on button is large and easy to press, and unit lights up so you can easily see it is operating. There is also a larger cancel button.
The only niggle is the lid, this is why I gave 4 stars rather than 5. There is a button that flips up a portion of the lid to enable filling, but the flap limits access and the opening is quite small (I use a jug to fill as unit too heavy for me to carry), while you can remove the whole lid (which would make filling easier) it is difficult to grip it, it would definitely benefit from a handle!

I have used a kettle through my married life and never really thought about another way to boil water. My kettle started to leak last week and my first action was to look for a replacement kettle. I started to read reviews and saw hot water dispensers, then dispensers with an integral water filter. I purchased one and am delighted with the product. It is quick, easy to use, energy efficient and looks good. My smart meter is very happy!

I bought this because I live in a very hard water area in London, previous hot water cup dispensers also dispense granules of scale into the cup within a few weeks from new. This has been perfect, scale-free cups of water.
The downside is you have to change filters more often than predicted, filters clog up and stop letting water through in about 6 weeks. Buy a pack of new Brita filters to have some spares at the same time you get this machine.

I bought this because of the hard water where I live and was sick of descaling the kettle! It’s better than I thought it would be. Water fills cup quickly. No waiting around for the kettle for your morning cuppa. The temperature is just right. I also use it for quick washing up of single items – just a cupful is perfect. I haven’t used my old kettle for weeks. The filter gives a much better quality of taste and lasts a month. I have descaled the One Cup once, because of our exceptionally hard water. Much better idea than filling a filter jug and than filling a kettle. Worth the money.

I had the one cup which I thought was working well until I bought this. The instructions are easy to follow and the item is easy to use. I’m loving the variable flow for different cup sizes and the fact that the water is boiling hot compared to my previous one cup kettle. I love that I can see the water boiling and how it is illuminated. The option to stop the water mid flow is a great feature.

Loving this! Though the filters for this are the Maxtra+ so I’m glad I didn’t order additional filters at the same time.
Firstly, huge water tank. So much so that I started to worry the first time that I filled it as it took a lot of water before it showed above the heater compartment, I actually started to wonder if I should have read the instructions first.
So, as it is a filter kettle- sorry, hot water dispenser- it does take a while for the water to filter through and reach the huge reserve tank.
As the cup sizes are dots rather than volume, some trial and error with different mugs is to be expected in the beginning.
Obviously, I timed how long it took to boil a cup of water on the second largest cup setting, 28 seconds from pressing the button to cup of coffee. Very much a welcome thing first thing in the morning. Just remember to top up the tank the night before. Or it’s a lot longer.
Emptying the tank is a bit of a bum ache as you are not able to empty cold water, the only way is to make up to 8 cups of tea, coffee or hot chocolate.
Oh, and making instant gravy or pre boiling water for the spuds became a lot trickier since banishing my old, standard kettle.
Fast coffee at 6am makes up for that, though.
Great for when the carpal tunnel is being uncooperative as no lifting. I imagine descaling will be an issue….

I love it. Cheaper and quicker than my kettle which was supposed to be energy efficient. Boils very quickly in seconds, as opposed to minutes, cost of boiling depends on time of day and high or low tariff, but around 1.76 a minute to boil. I do find I have to clean the inside a couple days a week as it gets condensation inside, but not a major issue. Having the integral Brita cartridge does mean that my Brita water filter cartrdige does last longer because I was filling the kettle with water from the filter jug. Filter lasts a month. Have kept the old kettle though in case I have people over because it’s easier using that for multiple drinks rather then boiling the Breville more than once. Would recommend.

I was hesitant about buying this due to the price. However after watching a program on travel when the TV presenter said she loved shopping and she was going to die broke, I thought yes I’m going for it. I ordered it it was here the next day. I keep making cups of tea because I love using it. The only fire thing I find a little difficult is filling it. I use a jug it is a little time-consuming. But I start to fill it in the evening when I start washing up. I then top it up and wait for that to filter through. Before I go to bed if it needs a little more I top it up and it’s ready to go in the morning. I get up in the morning put a teabag in the cup Hey presto within a minute and a half I’m actually sitting in the lounge drinking a cup of tea. Brilliant. Would highly recommend

This to me was expensive, for a kettle, if you know what I mean!
BUT it has great advantages, practical,no holding heavy kettles to pour, and so easy to set up.
You can vary amount you need, and there is a stop button if you need a smaller amount, and its easy.
We have now had it for a month and it was 70 instead of 75 so not much cheaper.
However the advantage of having it delivered was easy decision.
Water really hot,and having it filered makes it taste better. All in all, expensive but worth it.lets see how long it lasts! !

I used to make do with putting filtered water into my kettle. But my partner takes milk in her coffee so she would fill it from the tap if wasn’t around. This not only safe guards the purity of of my tea water but it also takes all of the work away too. Press the button, grab a cup, place it on the tray, sling in a tea bag. Job almost done. Wait a very short period of time, stir and remove the teabag. The only improvement I would make is to add a water supply inlet / value so that it could be plumbed in. Filling it is a bit of pain relative the ease at which you can make a cup of water. But I love it nether the less.

I bought this as the hard water in my area causes a horrible film on the tea, this has really solved that problem, it was easy to get it going and it filters water very fast, it boils very fast and the different cup size is excellent, it also has a digital display showing when yr filter needs changing, the look of it is nice and feels more expensive than it is, the blue light is a nice touch and if u make tea late at night it looks fabulous.
All round I would 100% recommend this and would have no hesitation buying another one, it was well packaged the box being kept upright and no dents in it, well done Breville.

The product feels premium and it is well designed! It serves very well its purpose!
To get a cup of hot water I would wait the same amount of time as if Im waiting for a nespresso.

P.s.: Even if it says 6L, given the water goes to the filtered compartment first, its only 1L at a time. And the filtering is slow (in general, not this machine in particular)

After having used instant hot water taps at work for making quick teas and coffees on the go I was excited to replace my old kettle with this hot water dispenser but sadly my excitement soon turned to disappointment. The first thing we noticed is that it takes ages to fill as there is only a small amount of space between the Brita filter to the top of the kettle such that you have to put a small amount of water in, wait for it to trickle down to the main tank and repeat 4 or 5 times until the tank is full. The only way it’s usable is to remove the brita filter so that the water goes straight into the tank. The next issue is how long it takes to boil the water, which is almost a minute. Not too much of a problem if making a drink for one person but not great if you have guests and need 4 or 5 cups and unlike a kettle you can’t just go away and come back. Lastly it’s no good for rinsing rice or filling pans with hot water. If you want instant hot water for the kitchen it’s better to get the tap systems which are directly connected to the mains water and can provide an endless supply of boiling hot water within a few seconds.

Update. Having used the HotCup for a few weeks I’ve added a couple more stars. We just keep a jug of water next to it for topping up and have kept our old kettle in a cupboard for the odd things it can’t handle such as straining rice etc. Overall I’m glad we persevered with it.

Very impressed with this unit. Boils just enough water as required instead of the whole kettle. Very attractive. Just what I was looking for.
Just small complaint. The power cable is short probably only just over one foot long. I am lucky that I have a power point close to the worktop. But still means I cannot arrange items on my worktop as I want it. The cable should be longer, say about 2. 5feet (0.762m) at least. Also wife would have loved option to fill say, a 1000ml jug for hot water during cooking.
    Hence overall 4 stars.

One my 3rd in about 10 years! I live in a hard water area so it does fur up unfortunately but thats not the appliances fault. The dreaded limescale on the surfaces is the main reason for replacement. The one cup system works well for my needs if you only need to make a single cup. The built in filter is definitely a bonus although the water can take a while to filter through to the reservoir. The cup size adjuster is very easy to use and whilst I can’t, hand on heart, say what the energy savings are, I can say it’s easy to live with, looks good on the kitchen top and delivers a nice cup of tea.

I bought this as I hate reboiled water and my office doesn’t have a tap, so constantly going out to refill the kettle was annoying… with this you fill the filter and then it only boils the amount you need, so it’s the perfect option for me. The cup of tea tastes noticeably better which I assume must be the filter, and it makes a perfect temperature cup of tea in less than a minute. You can set the dial to ensure you get the same amount, so I tried with the largest amount on first try and it filled it to the brim, so perfect for a full cup of tea is the second one down from the top. I’m so pleased with this!

Pros:Looks great, boils quickly and not too noisy, also good that you can leave the cup underneath and walk away from it whilst boiling.(unless you forget to put the cup underneath and then you have a clean up job.

Cons: the scale for cup size is sketchy, even if you don’t touch the dial the quantity of water will be different each time, trying to get 180ml for our child’s bottle has been deemed unachievable, also if you have to make 4 cups, you have to boil it 4 times making it not energy efficie

I’ve had this for 2months now and as a single person im glad i bought it rather than another kettle. Its simple to set up and clean, yes it still needs to heat the water up but much quicker than a kettle and gets to a drinkable temperature quickly which for me is great as I’m usually rushing. I’ve had no bad tasting drinks whilst using this machine, it has improved my tea drinking experience. I will update if it breaks to figure out costs and worth but so far no complaints and you can get cheaper filters for it on Amazon which is a bonus.

These machines are superb. You very quickly figure out the exact cup size for every mug in the house. If you have nice tap water you could go for the cheaper one but if, like me, your water is hideous or hard, I recommend this one with the Britta filters. You will need to change the filter every 4 weeks so factor that cost into your purchasing decision.
You choose the cup size, press the button and wait for the cup to full with water. It will cut out automatically or you can manually stop it if you like.

  48. Liz Hichens says:

     United Kingdom

Have to say that this is a design triumph in my opinion. It looks great in a kitchen that is filled with gadgets and is probably the easiest to use of the lot.

It boils exactly what you need for your cup and although it necessitates some initial trial and error in getting the setting right (there is a dial on the top where you can change the volume of water that gets boiled), once this is done, it’s a breeze to use. You can even remove the drip tray and use it with a jug for gravy or in our case, jelly.

Changing the filter is simple and straightforward and there is an indicator on the top that tells you when to replace the filter, although in our experience, the filter will still give excellent results for 3 times longer that the indicator states. They probably want you to buy more filters.

We bought a stylish old fashioned milk bottle type thing from Sainsbury’s that we keep next to it to fill it up with water. You can get about 5 full large cups from it before it needs topping up. For the next version of this, it would be nice if they could find a way to increase the water reservoir, as this is the only issue we have with it and why it doesn’t get 5 stars. With a few people in the house, 1.8Lt is just too small. Let’s target 2.5Lt for the next one please.

    Highly recommended though.

Debated buying this for a while. Really happy that I have. The water quality is great, and it makes the perfect cup! I’m the only kettle user in my house so it makes sense- wouldn’t recommend for larger households, as even with 2 guests round it becomes a pain. The machine does develop condensation around the top, which doesn’t effect the performance but does make it just look a bit scruffy. I knocked a star off for ease of use just because it’s quite chunky to pick up and pop under the tap, so I tend to just fill with a jug- which adds another step. Overall I’m pleased with this item and friends and relatives have commented on how nice my tea tastes!

I live in chronic pain and it helps having a hot drink really helps first thing.I was not allowed a teasmade. There is a beautiful tea maker that’s very expensive which I was told no. So I just bought this. I wasn’t expecting to keep it here, it’s a kettle essentially and does not go with the room but. It’s a very quick cup of tea in the morning. I wouldn’t use it in the kitchen as most do for one simple reason. It o my books what you need(which is great),but if it’s not quite enough then you have to boil again and that starts the cycle of it being pointless and a normal kettle would work better. But if you want the same amount every day. Perfect. For anyone who has chronic pain it’s also easy to use. Not fiddly at all. You can pour water in, instead of moving the kettle off base. All things you have to think about when disabled or with chronic conditions.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe purchased this as a replacement for our previous one which sadly packed up a while ago. We initially went back to a standard kettle which just didn’t live up to our expectations as we live in a hard water area and even regularly changing the filter didn’t appear to help.
So we took the plunge and brought another one of these, good choice defiantly. The new one has a few subtle changes, the start button is softer and smoother than the older model and the cut off is better ensuring the cup level is more consistent. The only draw back is you still cannot boil large volumes of water and repeated use to try will cause the unit to shut down as it overheats, but recovers after a couple of minutes so all ok.
    Would defiantly recommend.

Having moved in to a new place and not having a kettle, I was looking for a good kettle to make that perfect cup of coffee that I’m always chasing. I came across this by absolute chance and I’m glad that I did. It boils and dispenses the water for one cup in around 20 – 30 seconds and is i’m only ever making small rounds of drinks, it makes it really fast.

The size adjustment is really cool and once you’ve used it for a while, you can pretty much gauge what sort of sized dispense you’d need for each cup you own. Much better than a kettle and I can’t ever imagine owning anything other than one of these in the future.

Great kettle replacement for a very hard water area. The filter allows you to top up about half the water capacity with each trip to the sink. In practical terms that will make you about 3 mugs of tea.

My only issue is that the spout ‘spits’ when pouring. This has caused me to get burnt a couple of times. Not badly, but enough that I would think twice before getting for an elderly relative. This feels like something they should really have engineered out of the product before releasing

I like being able to set the volume to the amount I need, which saves energy and money. It took a week or so to get used to the slight change in taste to my beloved tea and I confess to removing the filter as it took far too long to add water to the tank – putting in teacup-full amounts at a time and waiting for it to go down before adding another tiny amount is ridiculous. But I’m very happy to be saving energy and I do enjoy using this appliance.

    Pros:
    1. Extremely hot water in less than a min.
    2. Very Easy to use.
    3. Blue light glow helps to me use even after keeping in the corner of the kitchen where you have less light.

    Cons.
    1. 1.8 Liter should be increased to 2 Liter or 2.5. I know Breville BRITA has a larger capacity for a different model but I really like this design and wish they made the larger capacity tank.
    2. I need to buy a ceramic mug separately to place it below the nozzle to fill hot water onto my bottle. The distance between the nozzle and the base should be higher or should be shipped with a free ceramic cup.

Overall extremely happy with the product. Must have for the kitchen use

I find we need to keep topping up the tank as the top half of the tank holds the water to be filtered down in to the lower tank. The water is hot enough for tea if you place the bag in your cup just below the jet of water when it comes out. Otherwise you get a rather weak brew. Easy to use for people with Arthritis and minimal chance of getting scolded. The filter works well, and I’m still waiting to do my first descaling.

This kettle does its part in filtering water from the tap (live in a hard water area) however it is very big to handle and carry to and from the tap especially when full. The variable dispense dial and emergency stop button-my name for it as it took a few attempts to find out how much water was dispensed for different cups/mugs.my tip-change all your cups/mugs to one size. It also can make a mess when dispensing hot water as it splashes out of the cup and onto worktops and the kettle itself

Been using for a month now and so far really good and would recommend.
    Positives:
    Easy to use
Water comes out noticeably nicer because ours filtered
Only boils the water you need for one cup so quicker and more energy efficient
    Negatives:
The largest setting isn’t enough to fill a pan so you have to do a couple of fills.
Despite handle it is to heavy to fill from tap with ease so you have to use a jug.
Water seems to go colder quicker than traditional kettle
Because of filter you can only fill a little bit at a time – can be frustrating if you are waiting for a refill

As you can see not perfect but all the negative are compromises I’m happy to make for being able to stick a cup under and press go and get a perfect cup of boiling wate

The tea tastes so much better, and I notice the difference when I go out! I was glad to have read reviews saying that the condensation is visible in the tank, it’s not too bad. My only improvement would be a numbering system on the cup indicator as I find it difficult to remember which notch to use for different sized mugs; it would be easier to remember a number. All in all very delighted with it, the kids bought it as a silver wedding gif

If you only have 1 person making a hot drink at a time or even 2, its perfect, heating takes about 20 seconds for a big cup and only boils what you need so you dont have to boil the whole tank of water. The filter in it really does make coffee taste much better over a standard kettle to my suprise, i have been using filtered water in a jug beforehand as i live in a hard water area. It doesn’t have any sort of temperature control so if you want tea or something at 85c then this isn’t for you. But as a coffee drinker i want my water 100 anyway. Its very quite compared to a standard kettle.
It does condensate quite alot on the inside of the tank what doesn’t really go away even after leaving for a long time but personally i dont mind. i think this is just a side effect of having a filter in it blocking the way for steam to leave the device.

Excellent water dispenser that delivers high quality filtered water in a hard water area, brings to just write for coffee and tea and dispenses efficiently. Just remember to run a water load or two through it when using a new cartridge to wash out any sentiment and ensure your cartridge is working correctly. Also important to submerge and resubmerge your new cartridge into the water for as long as it takes to get the bubbles out of it. Then place it into your dispenser for a wash through and use. If using small cups or mugs, be sure to measure the correct amount of water dispensed by view and stop it manually if required. Citric acid based descaler is recommended. I’ve yet to use descaler as mine is still relatively new.

When you buy this product you will be able to my one cup of tea or whatever you want to do at a time.
When you buy this product you will have to refill water before you can have a cup of tea or whatever you want and wait a bit before it gets though the filter (not long).
When you want to have another cup of tea or whatever you want, you need to press the button again once a cup of tea or whatever you want is done.
When you buy this product max you can boil at a time is like 250ml of boiling water I think, but I can be wrong.
When you buy this product you need to wait like 40 seconds or whatever to get boiling water to your cup.
When you buy this product you will enjoy very nice clean water. Amazing taste.

As long I can get clean water from if, because tap water is horrible I don’t mind all making my tea longer than usual. Great stuff. Would buy again if it break. Lol

This is so much better than using a normal kettle. Due to carpal tunnel syndrome, It’s difficult for me to pick up a heavy kettle without spilling the hot water. Once you figure out which cup size setting to set it to for what cups you use, then it’s perfect. It boils so quickly (timed it – the first boil after not being used for a bit took 45 seconds. The second boil straight after that only took 35 second!) I love how quick it is, the blue light is nice and the stop feature is great. The filter is good and the water goes through well. I refill it with a jug as it can be a little heavy, especially when full. All my cups fit under (some needing the tray to be removed). I love how it only boils the water you need for the cup you are filling also. Easy to clean also.

Ordered this after my Mum had the more basic one, My Wife and I are slightly obsessed with Coffee and figured this would provide the fix a bit quicker, and the idea of having a filter for the water was also very appealing.
After doing the initial flush, we had our first coffee and i have to say that we both noticed the difference in the water taste straight away.
I was also impressed with the water volume adjustment, On my Mums it did at best 3/4 of a cup, this can overflow a normal sized cup and easily do a “Sports Direct” size mug at a guess.
Pleasingly the water also comes out “HOT” rather than luke warm.

It doesn’t hurt that it also looks quite attractive 🙂

Easy to use and surprising quick

Great gadget which must save loads of energy compared to our old kettle. Best part is its starts the tea making process for you as you dont have to be there to put the water in the cup. Just put mug in position, tea bag in and press the button. Then you get on with whatever you are doing and within a minute the water has boiled and filled the cup and it starts brewing. So many times we would reboil the kettle as we were away from the room. Size adjuster doesnt really need to move. We have it on three quarters for most of our mugs and only go to fullsize when making some gravy. Brita filtered water means no scummy tea, although the filter needs changing Im trying to eek out maximum time on replacing the cartridge, as they are quite dear.
Wish I had bought one sooner, would be great for older generation who drink lots of tea and no more heavy kettles to lift and fill.

I love a gadget but especially ones that save me money. Easy to assemble and easy to use I’m so glad I bit the bullet and bought this. Fills small to large mugs. The huge mugs like the ones you get from sports direct take 1 and 1/2 on the settings. The only thing that would have been helpful is an indication in the manual as to how much liquid is boiled for each of the settings but with trial and error it its easy to work out. I’ve had to keep my kettle for when I need a large amount of boiled water so I’m hoping upgraded versions of this will allow you to program the amount of hot water needed so I an get rid of my kettle completely.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersIt does what is says it produces quickly a quantity of water directly into a cup only boiling what you need at anyone time. For me I like a large cup which requires a full setting and some. The unit has a stop button so on the second dispense I press to get the level I want. No issue no hard ship and no great waiting around. Water filter produces good clean non scummy water and a great cuppa – buy with confidence.

    Overall glad we bought it.

    For:
    – Boils much quicker than a kettle
    – Nice not having to fill up the kettle every time you want a brew
    – Works well, doesn’t drip after the water cuts off

    Against (could be improved):
    – Brita cartridge and fill section is annoying. You have to wait for water to drain through before finishing the fill up. We solved this by taking out the Brita and the extra section, as we have a filter tap in our kitchen anyway. The machine works fine without it.
    – Only makes half a dozen cups before needing to refill. Not sure why you can’t fill more.
    – The cup size adjustment button is flimsy and not that easy to make fine adjustments.
    – It’s not instant hot water, still have to wait a bit for it to boil. But then again if you press the button first, it’s almost ready by the time you get the cup, tea bag etc.

Overall it’s a clever, and fairly well made product. The negatives are just niggles, which if they fixed would make it 5 stars.

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersFantastic! I was put off buying this for a long time due to ‘It does not boil’ review comments. I am very fussy that tea is properly made with boiling water and decised to believe the written description of the maker that says it heats to 100 degrees. This does an excellent job! I see comments in reviews about leaking. The only time I have seen any leak was when I overfilled the filter reservoir when I first got it – my mistake, so not a problem. I have also seen issues with having to top it up with a jug…no more than you have to pick up and refill a kettle! Also issues mentioned with ‘if you need more than 1 cup’ – eh, you place another cup and press the button again. It is fast! My water is very limey and if I did not clean kettle out regularly the tea suffered. The filtering takes care of that. Used for tea, coffee, cup soups, cooking (noodles, veg, etc. ) where a full pot of water is not needed. The only thing misgiving I have is that the dial for setting the cup size does not feel sturdy and does not register clearly under the sizes – perhaps this accounts for complaints that fill quantity is inconsistent? I do not find fill quantity an issue. I am just sorry I did not ignore the ‘it does not boil’ comments sooner. Love it! It is a new purchase so I promise to return if I have issues or my opinion changes.

    Love it!

Golden Review Award: 30 From Our UsersOnly arrived yesterday and is already well “broken in”, easy to set up easy to fill and really easy to use the stop button is right at the front if you have set it to boil more water than needed it’s easy to push. I just put it to the ultimate test and made a pot noodle and it did the trick no problems I love it so much I have gotten my mother one she should receive it tomorrow!! It’s aesthetically pleasing with functionality I doubt I will go back to a traditional kettle again I have fibromyalgia and it’s so much easier than trying to lift a heavy kettle full of boiling water it’s safer too as I have in the past spilled the scolding hot water attempting to make a simple cup of tea!
It’s easy to fill and is heavy when full so we have a jug by the machine so I can fill it easier. My mother also has fibromyalgia and unfortunately doesn’t have someone with her full time to help so she will as of tomorrow also lessen the risk of any injuries that could be caused by a kettle.

I love it so much I got my mum one too!!!'

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersOn reading the reviews I was concerned about the 60+ comments about taste and smell of the water but 500+ reviewers had no problem with the unit so I went ahead and bought it. On opening I was impressed by the build quality and appearance. On testing I found the cup water level adjustment to be excellent enabling you to set a variable amount (not set steps or no adjustment as some units do) to be dispensed and it is consistant and very accurate. The first cup time is about 42 seconds to heat and dispense and following cups about 8 seconds less. the family have now been using for a week+ and are all really impressed with it. I would definately recommend it. Also for easy topping up I would recomend the following https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01JLUBY2C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 as it matches and is also good quality but some versions of it on Amazon appear to have problems so the link (slightly more expensive than some) would be the best way to go.

I’ve only had this for a day so far, enough to make several brews though.I have to say it’s quite and impressive device, it boils the water speedily and does exactly what it claims.

The only surprise was that its basically a big kettle, in that it has a base and the whole unit (not just the water tank) lifts off for you to add water. This is a little clumsy as it is rather heavy and quite tall, so it’snot that easy to fit under a tap – especially when there is washing up in the sink… Simple solution is to use a jug to periodically top it up. I reckon a full fill will probably last 3 days or so for me. It’s also worth noting that the filter reservoir is only about a third of the capacity of the whole kettle, but it is about 2-3 mugs worth.

This machine worked well & we found no after taste.
But we didn’t like the fact that some of the boiled water went back into the reservoir after the cup was filled. We felt there would always be a small amount of boiled or old water in the bottom mixing with fresh unless you emptied it at the sink regularly. Our coffee machine has a light plastic reservoir that is easy to pick up to fill & empty. With this one there’s no removable water reservoir (apart from the filter one). We decided it was too heavy & fiddly to empty the whole machine regularly so we decided to return it. (The suggested way of emptying it for holidays etc was to fill cups with boiled water till it stopped. But when you do that there’s still a lot of water left in the bottom.)

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersI iive in Kent where the water scales up all appliances very badly and tea leaves horrible stains on china; so the this very well machined and produced hot cup maker being fitted with Brita water filters is excellent. No nasty chlorine taste in the water and no staining. Even my 87 year old mother can handle this – although it is too heavy for her to lift off the power plate and fill under the tap. It doesn’t splatter hot water over you – it has a very accurate dial to choose the size of cup you want it to dispense – it has a lovely soft blue light when it is heating the water for a cup – it is easy to fill and the filter is easy to change monthly. It is good looking on the bench and frankly I wouldn’t go back to re-boiling water in a kettle for cups of tea or coffee – or a small pan for boiling eggs. Oh – and the water actually is boiling.

I have one of these & have had it for a good while now. There is no smell or taste as to what you are all describing & I am wondering whether the water type in your area’s are having an effect on the taste & smell. It may well be that the combination of your water type (hard or soft) & the mechanics of this machine are just not compatible.
I have a hair & beauty business & our little hot cup is constantly on the go & the comments that we receive about our cups of tea are just so complimentary, I really couldn’t tell you how many of our clients say ‘No… really!!! … that really is the best cup of tea I have ever tasted’ with all sincerity. (I personally am a coffee drinker). I have a suspicious feeling that the people who are getting foul smell & taste may either have fluoride added to their water supply or they are in hard water area’s … would be interesting to find out .
But seriously I recommend this product 100%.. only downfall I have found is the weight of the unit once filled & carrying it from the tap to the kitchen side is a strain on my wrist, however like many others I too refill with a glass or jug. No big deal, benefits out weight this very small problem… big thumbs up from me.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHave recently replaced my Breville VKY367 Brita Filter Hot Cup with exactly the same as I was so impressed with the machine. It is ideal for example at breakfast time when you put toast in toaster and at the same time press a button on the Breville. It is so quick and easy as tea is being made and poured without any other effort being involved.
However, one small point, the lid are where it measures usage of the Filter Cartridge does not work. This is Annoying because I have no indication of when the Filter has stopped working. Unless the whole machine is returned I am not sure how a replacement lid can be obtained. Thank you for reading this and if anything can be done about obtaining another lid I would be grateful. This is the first time it has been used as it is still new.

We purchased this to replace our old family kettle and what a difference. Instantly you can taste the difference with the added water filter.
We suffer from lots of limescale in the kettle and it was clearly affecting the taste and water quality ven with using a a water filter from the fridge.

I would agree with other comments about the filling up of the water tank. It does take slighlty longer to fully fill as the water from the smaller filling tnak does have to pass through the filter. All i do is turn the tap on very slow and let it fill and pass through at the same time and you can see it very slowly filling up. When the water in the main tank gets to the marker just under the top one turn the tap on full fill the little tank to the top and stop anf that should fill to the top full marker in the big tank and not over fill it .

It boils very fast and once you set your correct required water setting for your own cup/mugs you get a real nice tasting water at a perfect tempreture.

Very easy to use once you have tested it out a few times. I would suggest fully filling it the first time and use the first two tanks of full water to adjust and set the required water lvl on the dial and this will also flush through two tanks for the first use. then the 3rd fill you have everything set and your ready to make a nice cup of tea 😉

    Enjoy

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOur kettle was getting a bit tired so we thought we’d try one of these. As we live in a hard water area we opted for this filter version. We’d had a Brita water filter jug before so knew how effective the filter was.
It arrived in perfect condition a few days ago and we’ve had time to try it out. It’s very effective and the amount of water it dispenses is VERY hot. I take milk in my drinks but my wife doesn’t so being able to alter the amount dispensed is very handy. This is very easy to adjust by turning the dial accordingly. A bit of experimenting is required though. The difference in taste was very noticeable from our old kettle. It’s nice to be only boiling water that you will use. It’s also nice to not have to wait for the kettle to boil for that first cuppa in the morning.

I’ve found filling it up to be a bit awkward tho’ as it’s a tad heavy when full to hold under the sink tap, so we use a small jug. It’s worth bearing in mind that because it takes time for the water to filter thru’ it can take a while to fill it up from empty. It’s best to top it up regularly. The lid opens smoothly at the touch of a button. It looks very stylish and the blue light when on is pleasant to look at.
    Overall a good produc

Excellent piece of kit, looks really good, heats water very quickly, delivers it accroding to need, from a giant cuoful to a delicate one. No dripping, the device give a little slurp at the end of delivering the water that takes back in any spare in the nozzle, really good. Only had this for less than a week and already it’s invaluable. It does make a little noise during the heating operation and more during the delivery, however it does this so quickly it isn’t a problem. If I had a complaint it’s a mild one, the tank is big but takes less than two litres, also the tank has a handle on it just as a kettle would but it’s a bit bulky to keep carrying to the tap, I have started keeping a water jug nearby to refill. I very quickly removed the filter as this did cause some taste which disappeared with the removal of the filter. I may reinsert it later to test if this taste returns with it, but meanwhile very happy with the product.

I bought this product around about a month ago as a replacement for my kettle – an attempt to move with the times! I have to say, i dont think i will ever return to a traditional kettle again!

    Good Points:
    – Large capacity tank, means i can usually get around 10 cups of tea from it, which is great if you are a tea / coffee addict!
    – Filtered water gives me the impression the tea tastes better, although how much that is true and how much is perception i cant answer.
    – Quick boil time. Much faster than a kettle, i can have a hot cup of tea in about 10 seconds, excluding steeping time.
    – Variable dispensing. If your using a variety of mug sizes, you can alter the amount dispensed.
    – Filter lifespan. There is a gauge to show you when to change the filter. I’ve never had a brita filter. Having used it for a month (and let me put it this way, i refill at least once a day!) its at half life. That seems pretty good to me.
    – It just looks better than a kettle!

    Negatives:
    – Refilling the tank takes ages due to the filter. You’re talking a good 5 minutes.
    – Cleanliness of the dispenser: it collects dust like there is no tomorrow!
    – Dispensing amount: i usually drink from what i can only descibe as carafe sized mugs. You can get a decent mug size, but it would be nice if they had an ‘extra large’ option, or maybe a continuous stream.

All that said – big big fan!

Really impressed! I like the fact that the water is filtered as I live in a hard water area. Boils really quickly and takes about 45 seconds from the press of the button to a really good cup of tea or coffee. I have not found there to be any strange taste, in fact I find it tastes better than using my old kettle even when using filtered water.

Adjustable cup sizes are good and ranges from a small tea cup to a large mug so should suit most needs. Also has a manual stop button to stop either before water starts to flow or even mid-flow.

I can’t think of any negatives other than if you are really fussy about the temperature for making coffee as you cannot change the temperature. I have not found this to be a problem and find the temperature is just right even for black coffee.

    So far we like this.
The varying sizes of cups are fine for our use…not so great for gravy granules but we live the jug under for a second go and it is fine. The ability to stop if you have over selected is handy. it is easy to fill with a jug – which I’m now wondering why I never did that before with my old eco kettle). It looks smart and cleans easily. The water does cool quickly…it says 100 degrees, into a cold cup it is 83, in a warmed cup we are getting 92…It is fairly easy to do a ’round’ of drinks as I put the next cup under while I am delivering the first cup etc and all is well.

For reliability we will have to wait & see & this also goes for the old one tripping the electric…wait and see.

Bought this as the females in this household feel the need to fill the kettle to the top to boill gallons of water when they need a thimble full of boiling water. It does exactly what you expect it to do – works very quickly, doesnt make much noise at all (quieter than our Russell Hobbs kettle was) and the water tastes cleaner due to the filter. Also we leave the boiled water quantity selector on Max as you just press STOP when you have enough for the various size mugs we have. Very happy with this device. The next challenge is to train the females in this house that when they use it they need to replenish the water as the Breville Water Fairy has gone on holiday…If you have the same challenges as I do – then this is the device for you.
Update 17 Feb 18… lasted just over 3 years now has died sadly, seems to be the element, will order another as its been so good. Not sure if it actually saved any money over the 3 years but it feels good knowing you arent using as much electrickery for all those cuppas… lets hope the recycling gods can get sone value from the old one… ps the women in the house still never figured out that you should replenish thevwater every time you use it…

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersEasy, fast, efficient, and very stylish, bravo!! I can’t believe it would be so easy to operate. My husband loves it. Press one button and it boils and dispences. The max fill line is clear and no danger of overfilling. The blue light is also on when it boils, the machine doesnt spurt out water and the stream is fast. . The lid button pops open for easy refill. I use bottled water even though it has a Filter because bottled water still left Limescale in our ceramic kettle. So i am glad for the brita filter. The stop button is fantastic and you can top up any drink. Plus sides. Fast dispences, truly one button operation, stop button, clear and stylish, efficient, minus sides, the other reviews I read nearly put me off, they said it doesn’t do 4 cups because it needs to cool down, so what, it cools down quickly and can be reused, they said the button had to be pressed hard or held long, this is not true. I would. Have liked an individual boil per cup so as to keep oxigenation higher but the tea is still very tasty and the water is very hot. The only minus is it costs a bit more but since the other cheaper models don’t give you the same easy benefits, we’re glad we purchased this dispencer.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI ordered this half-expecting a nasty taste to accompany my brews. Murphy’s law – I got just that, but being determined to keep the machine if at all possible I set about purging it. Firstly I soaked it in water, boiling a mug-full now + then and tipping into the sink. Then I steeped it in warm vinegar which smelled disgusting but after two hours had reduced the off-taste by a good 50%.

This spurred me on and my second treatment was half an eggcup of Milton Fluid soaking for another two hours – again periodically I boiled & discarded a mug of boiled solution. This was followed by a rinse-through which then gave me the clean & pure tasting tea that I was looking for, all done in less than one day.

Well worth it but why-oh-why can’t Breville do something similar on the production line? The water-filter partners (Britta) must be hopping mad as the situation could well lead some people to blame the filer insert for the poor taste.

    Happy Brewing:)

I read a lot of conflicting and positive reviews before thinking “sod it ill buy one anyways” Best move ever, I struggle with grip, so took on board some of the review suggestions of using a jug to top up etc, this works well as you dont need a full jug every time just to keep it topped up. My old quick boil was fast, this is even faster, easily fills my daughters small cup to my big mugs and not using the highest fill setting either. If it does need a clean out or filter change id just let it run down for a few cups 1st till almost empty then do it. Is no more heavier empty than my old kettle was tbh. Do notice the cleaner taste for sure. Also didnt have any nasty taste on 1st use but i did fill a few times at sink to empty and let the filter break itself in as per instructions, I then discarded the 1st boil cycle, topped it back up and had no issues.

Ordered with trepidation in view of the reviews reporting bad taste from this item but thought what the heck if it’s like that I will send it back as Amazon are no problem in my experience with things like that, and its been absolutely fine no bad taste and does what its supposed to without any fuss and palaver whatsoever.
We fill it by way of a plastic jug as its too big to keep lifting up and filling at the tap and in any case the prefilter tank has to be filled at least twice to fill the bottom filtered tank so jug method is best for us.
When making tea for two of us I always let the the first mug fill half way then use the stop button warm first mug then put the warm water in second mug to warm whilst making the first mug of tea them empty second mug and make second cup think this helps to keep the correct tempreture for brewing tea as tea is too expensive to ruin ( Keyan Gold ) lovely bright fresh cup of tea must go and make one!!!!

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersOriginally I ordered the NON filter, non variable version and after reading a couple of reviews I realised that we have a variety of cups and mugs in the house, so a one size dispenser just wouldn’t work.. Am I glad I cancelled and changed to this one. When it arrived this morning, I went through the setup and first use (which means submerging the filter in water and shaking it to remove bubbles and boiling a full tank and pouring it away) and then came the moment of truth, was it as quick as they say and did it actually taste good.. Well it passed with flying colours on both counts. boiled a average large mug of tea in less than 40 seconds and dispensed it, without sputtering.. and it tasted so much nicer than the tea made with water from the old kettle. Mum gave it a try and said it was really nice, and she was so happy that she wouldn’t have to drink gritty tea any more.. but it was the speed that really impressed me. even with the minimum of water needed to make 1-2 cups of tea in the old kettle, it would take at least one and a half minutes to boil, plus there was the dripping spout and ensuing mess after pouring several cups of tea.

Yes if you have say 4 people in the house and they all want tea/coffee, it may seem weird having to do each cup, one at a time.. but with a piece of kit that can dispense a cup of water this fast, without all the mess, personally I don’t think anyone would notice

The water IS 100% when dispensed.. not just hot. but boiling

Add to that when you get this thing, it doesn’t just come with a standard 1 year guarantee. but also a card, with a code number from Brita. you visit the website, enter the code number and Brita extend that guarantee to 2 years, plus you get the chance once a month to win a years supply of Brita filters (12 if you go by the 1 month replacement recommendation)

Finally it looks good too. a really nice design, that works well and filtered water, just makes al your hot drinks taste so much better.
Yes the filters can be a bit expensive. but if you consider buying them in a bulk 12 pack ( a whole years worth) then you’l save quite a bit in the long run.

Do I recommend it. well yes of course. be careful though, if you love having fancy gadgets around the house and can’t resist playing with them and showing off, you are going to find yourself, drinking far too much tea/coffee in the first few days/weeks haha

    What a great machine!

Bought a different make a few years ago and there’s no comparison. The early makes and models didn’t seem to get the water temperature hot enough and so were not able to produce a decent tasting cuppa.

The water heats up so quickly with the Breville Brita Hot Cup that even if you’ve got several drinks to make it doesn’t take any time at all.

Having the Brita filter incorporated into this machine is a great idea. Not only do the drinks taste better but the machine has much less chance of limescale building up inside.

Although you can fill the machine with water by detaching it from the base and carrying it over to the sink I find it much easier to leave it where it is and fill up from a jug. Definitely recommend this to anyone who is on the frail side or who has arthritis in their hands or arms.

    Wish I’d bought one sooner.

Many mentions in past reviews of a funny plasticcy taste but not recently. Well I can confirm that there is definately a slight taint to the tea that it makes, compared with using water from a kettle. I have always used filtered water for making drinks and it is a bit like the taste one gets when suddenly one used not filtered water. I suspect that those users who can’t notice a taint are those who previously used tap water, unfiltered for their drinks.

Having said that I don’t find it totally unpleasant and not enough for me to send the machine back. It does what it says and seems to do it well. I suspect that by the time the water hits the mug it has lost a bit of temperature as teabags take longer to brew than with boling water straight from a kettle. But it is a quick way of getting a single cuppa without boiling a full kettle – I always felt guilty as tended to always keep the kettle full and ready!

So would I recommend it? – yes as long as you are prepared for a slight taste to the water it dispenses.

k, does what it’s designed for. super quick water dispensing. cup size adjuster just right in that as far as i can tell apart from the dot impressions beside, it isnt actually groove graduated, ie you turn it to where u think best for your size of cup.

only downsides i can think of are the cost of the filter (not bad) and the fact i have a high sided christmas mug and i had to angle the mug onto the base (sure i could have just removed the base) or thought ‘ahh does it really matter that i had to angle it past disperse nozzle to get it on base’ but darn it Jim, id have preferred a few centimetres higher height on the unit but that’s just me- for most people it will be more than adequate 🙂

(please read Jim comment as an attempted humoury type star trekky comment..all Jim’s reading this may now dismiss the spooky sensation they felt on reading 😉 )

Iv recently moved home and needed to replace my existing kettle for some time and this was perfect timing. I saw this product online and read the reviews and recommendations and to be honest loved the look of it, so decided why not and purchased it, I love this product so much I bought one for my parents as there kettle was awful and they absolutely love it 2! I think it is fantastic but not only that my son can use it as well as I feel it is safe to compared to an ordinary hand held kettle where I would never let my son use, all you do is set it to your cup size, place the cup underneath and press the button, couldn’t be easier and it also comes with a built in Brita filter (amazing)
Would defiantly recommend, best kettle Iv ever had, great value for money, easy to use and because of the built in brita filter system my cups of teas taste amazing, extremely happy with my purchase.

I was surprised to read some reviews bemoaning the fact that this product doesn’t perform as a kettle. I thought it was fairly obvious that it’s designed to dispense single mug/cupfuls of water and wasn’t suitable for, say, boiling water to fill a saucepan or teapot, but apparently not.

The purpose of this product is to boil enough water at a time for a single cuppa and this it does very well. It takes about 45 seconds to deliver the Brita-filtered water, which makes a superior cuppa – if you’ve never tried it, you don’t know what you’re missing. And to the other reviewers who were moaning about having to buy filter cartridges for it (it comes with one), well duh – what did you expect: its chief USP is that it uses Brita filter cartridges to deliver a better cuppa?

We bought this to replace our existing Breville-Brita kettle which went to malfunction junction. It had already occurred to us, in looking for ways to reduce our electricity consumption, that continually overfilling, boiling and re-boiling a conventional kettle just to make cups of tea, was probably wasting a lot of power. A product that boils just the water needed to make a single cuppa and no more seemed ideal -and indeed it is.

It’s easy to make two cups in a row and in fact three isn’t a problem either.

The funky blue light that comes on when heating is certainly unnecessary, but unobtrusive. The noise is no worse than a conventional kettle and over much sooner.

If you like to boil water with a kettle for cooking etc, then you will need to have a second kettle – a cheapo supermarket kettle does the job perfectly.

The product is nicely designed and has a quality feel from top to bottom. It is heavy to pick up, but it isn’t *really* meant to be moved – much easier to top it up with a jug, like a coffee machine.

The water produced comes out at 98 DegC – yes, I am that sad. By the time it hits a mug it’s down to 90 and lower by the time you’ve added milk, so a drink from this machine should be drunk straightaway.

The only reason why I’ve only given the Hot Cup four stars is that the first one had a faulty on button, which had a tendency to get stuck under the lip of the top, once when my wife had walked away from it to do something else. By the time she returned the machine had churned out two cups and was about to boil a third. So although it was a minor fault it was a potential safety hazard and we returned it to be exchanged. Amazon’s return service was as excellent as ever and the replacement was fine; it is not now possible to get the on button to stick under the lip. Two weeks later it is still fine and doing a great job – and not using a milliwatt of electricity more than necessary.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersMy severely disabled husband has very little strength in his right arm and can only hold the weight of a cup of tea with his left. Even if I prepare the kettle by filling it he is unable to pour it into a cup. I was a slave to the clock in order to provide him with the fluid he requires to ensure his bladder is never empty as he has a urinary stoma.

I saw the Breville one cup advertised and it has been my salvation and my husband’s dream come true. He can now make himself a cup of tea anytime he wants and I am relieved of tea duty.

The main bonus is the Brita filter as our tap water smells of chlorine and to me is disgusting as it overpowers the smell of tea or coffee and taints the taste. The one cup provides a fantastic clear looking and fresh tasting beverage. In addition it is very economic as it only boils one cup of water at a time saving many kilowatts of electricity over a year.

I appreciate from the other reviews that there can be issues but they are worth sorting out for the pleasure this machine will bring to a disabled person desperate to maintain their independence. It will also enable carers to focus on other things.

It goes without saying that it is easy, fast and effective. I fill it with a plastic jug so it stays static on the side always ready for use at a moments notice. Unexpected guests can be having a drink in less than a minute!

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI read all the reviews and thought hard before spending so much dosh. The product is overall brilliant as previously described. Only two drawbacks…
One is that the dispense amounts do vary, and Breville say this is normal, but one has to experiment {with boiling water!} to find out what those amounts [roughly] are. We think the minimum amount [150ml ish is too much]. Breville say when approached that they don’t publish the mils v the 9 dots on the dial, because they ARE variable. I didn’t think that was very scientific… Especially for such a well designed item…
Two, is that no-one has so far mentioned the splosh factor !!!!!!!!!! Like these exclamation marks, they are everywhere, and they comprise the tea or coffee one is making, not just water… I reckon you have to have a splosh zone of at least 10″ all around the unit, and hubby was even splashed on his shoulder and he’s six foot two inches tall!! So, not to be ignored if you have little ones wandering about. It leaves me wiping or ignoring, but not unaware of it! Hope this helps someone else, as it was a bit of a surprise to me.
My best tips are – for tea and coffee, do the coffee first, so the pipes are hotter for the tea. If the coffee tastes scalded, put an empty mug under, which takes the heat out of the water, then add the coffee.
As I said everything else hunkey-dorey, and we’re glad we got it. We’ve only boiled the kettle twice for other purposes in the 3 weeks we’ve had it.

Golden Review Award: 100 From Our UsersI ordered this yesterday after reading all the reviews on this and similar products, and it arrived this evening – brilliant service.

I am delighted with it, and even hubby, who was sceptical at first, has been suitably impressed.

I have very boring problems with long boring names affecting my hands so I’ve been in the habit of filling kettles by jug for so long I’m always surprised when other people don’t! A lightweight jug is an absolute must to fill this machine – some might see that as a drawback, I don’t.

It is actually much smaller than I was expecting! The footprint of the heater base *without the drip tray* is the same as my old kettle. It is somewhat taller, but doesn’t take up half the worktop as I was expecting it to. Keeping the kettle alongside for cooking or making multiple cups of tea (ie more than 3) is not going to be an issue. I have used a rival make of water boiler on family visits and (sorry family!) this is quieter and produces water that is far far hotter. True it’s not quite as quick, but speed wasn’t really a consideration when I made my choice. I’d rather wait a few seconds for the boiling-hot water to be honest.

The mug size is perfect for our crockery, too. Reviewers who have commented that it only just fills their mugs, or doesn’t fill them enough, must have huge mugs! I haven’t measured the size of my biggest mug in ccs, but I have several different sizes of mug, and the largest is filled to perfection at the biggest setting. Only my tall hot choccy mugs won’t fit under the tap, but they’re hot choccy mugs for hot choccy so it’s not an issue lol!

Did I say I’m delighted? I am. I will update in a few months’ time, as I find reviews that revisit products after a decent period of use are the most helpful. But so far, it gets a big thumbs up from me. No more danger of scalds from boiling water spilling from kettles I’ve dropped or thrown across the kitchen.
