The Brother HF27 Strong & Tough is a sewing machine for all your creative needs. It has a traditional metal chassis, with metal needle plate for increased stability whilst sewing. The included J foot with levelling button helps when sewing very thick layers of fabric, whilst the multi-pack of needles includes a 90/14 and a 100/16 for heavier thread types. The selection of 27 stitches are ideal for repairs, dressmaking and home furnishing projects, with a 1-step buttonhole for completing garments. All stitches are fully adjustable with the width (7mm) and length (4mm) controls. There is an automatic needle threader and quick set drop in bobbin system to ensure quick and easy operation. Whilst the included non stick foot assists with leather or PVC items, and the blind stitch foot assists with stitching a perfect blind hem. If you’re new to sewing, or just need some extra help there is also an instructional DVD to guide you through all the machines main features.

A sturdy lovely machine.
This is to replace my old Toyota,it is a lovely machine,I am very pleased with it.
Quality machine
Great replacement for my old Singer, ideal for jeans alteration and other thick materials.
Fairly robus
I’m a professional sewer so needed an extra sewing machine, so far this seems fairly robust and performs well.
Easy to use
This machine is fabulous, easy to use and makes sewing a pleasure.
Some parts are very tacky – ie thread reel holder and foot lift but otherwise seems robust and goes through several layers of denim. Bit fiddly to get used to ie tension, stitch width etc. Comes with a helpful video. Otherwise pleased.
I bought this for my teenage daughter for Christmas as she wanted to start making bags and learn to alter and make her own clothes. It’s sturdy, handles thicker fabrics such as denim without any problem and is pretty quiet. She’s a beginner and has picked up how to use it quite easily. She is really enjoying using it and it’s been keeping her busy since Christmas Day!
Well I decided to try upholstery during lockdown…got my old trusty janome (Jenny) out and set off making a new piped cushion cover for my foot stool. It was going great till I got to adding the 4th layer of fabric ! Broken needles, looped stitches and had to squash it under the foot….
Battled for 2 days and gave into other half insisting I deserved a new machine…sorry Jenny
Then the trauma began…WHICH ONE? Spent hours watching reviews between this brother and the singer HD..
Ok well it arrived yesterday, unboxed it, read the threading instructions etc and set off with a piece of scrap…..cannot believe how quiet it is… I was brought up on a singer treadle so used to noisy rattling but this one purrs .
Moment of truth, I gritted my teeth ready to wince when needle snapped….will it go through my 4 layers of thick upholstery material and jump joints ??…YES! YAY! Happy happy..
The foot has an 11mm clearance for thick work which helps.
My other plus is it has an on/off switch which Jenny didn’t and 3 position needle not 2.
Will report back when cushion finished but so far impressed. Feels nice quality etc. Only issue for me is instruction leaflet print is small so get your glasses ready!
Value for money great machine
The machine is very good and suits the purpose I bought it for. On thinner materials stitches can be uneven.
Great buy
I have been sewing for over 50 years and this machine is great, I was using was more expensive one previously and it is not as substantial as this one is. I am so happy with this machine does everything I need it to do easy to use and sturdy. Great value for money, love it.
I bought this machine because I was having trouble with my quilting machine. I needed a strong work horse and this definitely is it! It’s quite basic so would suit a beginner as well. It’s a very sturdy reliable sewing machine ideal for curtains and blinds and numerous other projects. Great price as well!
Good Buy
This was a gift for as a replacement for old machine that was well used. I am assured that it is very good and does a lot more that the old machine. The recipient got to grips with it very quickly and is very pleased with the results so far.
Used all the features as listed. This can do minute sweing to heavy duty. I used for a lot of Velcro and it worked just fine. Did not try jeans cloth but guess it works. The design is also super cool. Cover is also provided and that’s quite handy all things are built into it so you don’t have to worry.

Great machine
I have not written the review unless I used it.
So my thoughts about that machine is that it’s a much better tool, compared to a one of the top electronic, computerised sewing machine from Bernette I had. Really tough and strong with a good variety of accessories etc.

This is a great machine. I sew for a living and I’ve had a few machines over the years as I give them a high volume of work and often see through hard and thick fabric layers.
It’s sews fantastically. Quiet motor, strong stitch. Hasn’t missed a Stitch yet and I sew for hours daily. It has a great thread mechanism which avoids the top thread coming undone from the wind like many.
My last machine was singer heavy duty and I much prefer this machine. Strong, smooth, efficient.
I read a post that said it was skipping stitches before buying but I’ve not had that issue at all. But I always recommend high quality sewing thread to avoid that problem, and an appropriate needle size.
Thrilled with my new machine
My previous brother (20 years old) was finding it hard to cope with thicker fabrics. This one i amazing and I am absolutely delighted with my new one. Highly recommended and thank you so much!
Awaiting Mrs to use
Bought as a Christmas present for my wife who always wanted a sewing machine, I bought a brother as it’s a brand name associated with quality, hopefully she won’t be making me any tweed underwea
It’s is a decent sewing machine and excellent for beginners. Even without the instructions there are mini diagrams on the machine telling you how to put the thread in. I particularly like the self threading needle attachment as my mother find it hard to thread the needle.
The DVD that comes with it shows you the basics and it explains the process clearly. I only got this machine because I was able to buy with monthly installments, but it turned out to be the best decision as it works a dream.

Mended horse fleece (using needles for leather), repaired dog beds (using needles for jeans)…. easy to understand instruction manual – no jargon! step by step guide to sewing various fabrics. I am not a seamstress but this machine makes me want to mend and sew more! Very happy with the purchase 🙂 Love it!!!

In my time I’ve spent money on various things, but best thing I brought is this sewing machine. I have had so much fun with it since I brought it, it’s undescribable, I knew I could sew, but I’ve had not touched a sewing machine in 5 years before I brought this, had some lessons and this along with my lessons has brought out my creative side without a doubt. Now for machine itself, made by brother, when it says it it has 27 stitches, it has 27 stitches, all different, I like that. Threading it is a dream, don’t even have to bring up the bottom thread, piece of cake, threading the needle, really good once you get the hang of the needle threader. The true beauty of this machine is the stitch length and stitch width are both adjustable, even better, easy peasy buttonholes yep that’s sorted with one step buttonholes. I gone through various materials since buying this 8 months ago, everything from light cotton to oil cloth to jeans to things with 2 layers of wadding and 4 layers of fabric, with the right needle the machine has handled my material very well. I can recommend this machine to any beginner it’s better than some of brother’s cheaper machines, but if you want this machine but not heavy duty or do not want spend as much money, brother also do that, the model is xr27nt, which I also recommend to beginners

As expected. It does what it’s supposed to do, but it struggles a bit with heavy fabrics sometimes. So far, I like it. It’s my second brother sewing machine btw.
Just received this machine and it’s ok. I have replaced my old Toyota jeans 17. This Machine is smoother than my old jeans machine and have just tried it with 6 layers of vinyl and it didn’t do to bad. The most annoying this is the needle stops in what ever position it’s in when you take your foot of the peddle. No up position on stop. So you spend a lot of time turning the hand wheel to release your fabric. It doesn’t feel as well made as the Toyota. I bought this because of the strong and touch label on it as I sew a lot of layers. It has a nice stitch though. I will only use it for the straight and occasionally the zigzig stitch. There are many others to play with. The other thing is the bobbin can be a pain to get out of its case when you want to change it. For the money it’s ok. These things only last a couple of years with me because of the use they get but I think I will go back the Toyota jeans machine when this one goes.
Still trying to get used to the millions of stitch combinations. Have trouble keeping the foot plate in place and threading the needle.
Arrived very swiftly my previous machine was a brother so went on what I prefer and was looking for a sturdy machine to cope with theatrical stage curtains and costumes. I am very pleased with the machine self threading was a bit tricky at first but once you get the hang of it is brilliant would highly recommend this machine .
