This thing is garbage. I have only had it installed for 5 months and the motor has burned out. No support from the manufacturer. NOT WORTH THE MONEY!
Best addition to my chicken coop I could have done. No more going out at sun up to let the girls out and then forgetting to close them up at night.

Had trouble setting it to dawn/dusk in our chicken house. Ended up using the timer and will have to adjust with time changes.

I had been searching for options to open the chicken door automatically for some time but everything I saw made me nervous about the door hurting my chickens. I love this one as I was able to use my existing door by simply adding an eye-bolt at the top. The hardest part about the install was getting the seal to stay in place while I closed it up after putting batteries in. Setup was super easy and attaching it to the coop above the door took just a few minutes. Has worked perfectly since installation. The door opens and closes easily and because it is a nice slow progression I don’t worry about my chickens. I set mine with the light sensor and it has worked perfectly for the last month without a single issue. I bought the extreme version due to cold winters, so hoping all works well this winter. 🙂
Raccoon figured out how to lift the door. Lost 5 chickens and bought a different door with a geared closing mechanism
Was fairly easy to install. It has saved my chickens from predators 100% so far. Very pleased.
I’m so glad we bought this product. We already had the door so now we bought the opener. It works perfectly so far. My silky girls love it because they can get out of the hen house earlier than when I was manually letting them out. We have it set on the timer instead of daylight/dusk and its great. We’re going on vacation and now I don’t have to worry about them as much.
Einfach zu bedienen. Funktioniert einwandfrei. Was fr ein Luxus das man morgens nicht mehr frh aufstehen muss um die Hhner raus zu lassen! Die Batterien halten hoffentlich sehr lange. Natrlich sehr teuer, aber das sind die anderen Hersteller auch.

I gave 5 stars for durability because I bot an “original” in 07/2016. If this one lasts as long, I’ll be happy.
I bot the “extreme” because it opens two doors that use 3 simple pulleys and I had no idea how much stress was put on the motor (and it’s only ~$20 more).
Improvements from the original” (the items below were not on the 2016 version):
-Simpler install since mounting screws are outside the device.
– Drive shaft/spool is supported on both sides (motor side, “free” side) to mitigate motor stress.
-display show power usage. Allows you to know how “stressed” the motor is be placed under.
Other improvements: -Prompts/instructions more explicit.
-The “guts” are on the back part, not the front thereby making battery changes, etc. easier to handle.
-labeling inside are more explicit.
This is our second ChickenGuard Extreme Automatic Door Opener, the first is still in use, and thye are both really good. We are very happy with them.

I’ve previously had Omlet doors, which are very robust but the mechanism is in the door – good point – but this makes it more of a job to install. I already had a door on the new coop so ran the cord through a hole to the hatch – job done!
I’m getting about 2 months max before the battery indicator is at zero.
Also the batteries are difficult to change because the battery holder won’t come out without prying it with a screwdriver. It’s a pain.
One needs to utilize the USB power otherwise the batteries will die on you if you’re not paying attention.
DEAD BATTERIES = DEAD BIRDS
**UPDATE..
THE CLOCK FAILED (don’t know what exactly happened but the clock changed. WHEN YOU CHANGE THE BATTERIES IT RESETS THE CLOCK!!! May have been that IDK but this unit SHUTOUT MY CHICKENS before dark and I LOST 4 BIRDS. Terrible feeling.
POOR DESIGN as the clock should be backed up by memory. Not worth buying it if your birds get killed.

Se abre y cierra automticamente y esta a la intemperie. ES GENIAL Y MUY ROBUSTA. El motor es muy fuerte por lo menos en el modelo superior.
L’option sensor de lumire est indispensable sauf si le soleil se couche et se lve heure fixe.
Le mode d’emploi est bien fait mais il est lire dans le dtail.
Je ne suis pas arriv ouvrir aux premires lueurs du jours ; les poules s’impatientent derrire la porte en plexiglass transparente.
Par contre il est ais, quand on a compris les mandres de la programmation, de retarder la fermeture aprs la dtection lumineuse du coucher du soleil.
J’espre que tous mes efforts ne seront pas ruins lors du changement des piles.
Le seul dfaut important est le connecteur standard de piles de 9V pour connecter les piles de 5V malgr les avertissements rpts que 9 V va dtruire l’lectronique.
En rsum j’ai mis 5 toiles car le systme est bien construit, fonctionnel.
Je pense que le prix est fix par la situation de quasi monopole de ce produit.
Cet ustensile s’avere trs efficace et fonctionnel. Ncessite quelques minies connaissances en bricolage pour fixer une porte “legere” dans un rail que le moteur du boitier relevera aux horaires prciss.
4 etoiles car trs chers pour ce que c’est… Mais comme je ne suis pas capable de le fabriquer, je paie, c’est tout.

Only reason I didn’t give it 5 star was because of the programming. It was made more difficult than it needed to be. Other than that it works great on our door.
Probably the single best thing we have purchased to support our chicken coop. We only have three hens but here in Canada there are plenty of predators. This gives us peace of mind knowing they are protected at night. Also with the light sensor control it allowed us to go away for a week and know the girls would be safe in the coop at night.

Die externe Stromzufuhr hab ich nicht hinbekommen, entweder will das Gert nicht oder ich bin zu bld dafr.
Nungut es funktioniert ja auch mit Batterien.
Ich habe eine Steinfliese als Trschilder mit einem Seilzug ber Rollen, deshalb auch das Modell “extrem”.
Funktioniert zuverlssig.
Batterien halten bei mir bisher fr exakt 2 Monate, hab jetzt das 1. Mal getauscht.

Easy to set up and lifts my heavy plywood door with ease!
Je l’ai depuis 1 mois, aucun souci. A noter que j’ai install le botier l’intrieur vu la configuration de l’endroit, donc utilisation en mode programmation minuteur uniquement. Possibilit de l’utiliser en mode manuel sans rien drgler de la programmation. On peut rentrer tard et se lever tard en week-end sans craintes, partir un week-end ou en vacances l’esprit tranquille.
c’est le deuxime que j’achte, le premier est tomb en panne au bout de 2 ans et celui-ci consomme des piles, elle ne dure qu’1mois et demi maxi.
Trop cher, mais bon produit tout de mme

Funkt mit guten Batterien auch relativ lange (habe relativ schwere Holztre)
Aber mit Mucken:
a) das Einstellmenu ist leider etwas kompliziert und nicht ganz intuitiv bedienbar
b) ich hab das Gert jetzt seit 3 Jahren – es hngt im Freien allerdings nach Norden hin
leicht wettergeschtzt und nicht dir. Sonneneinstrahlung ausgesetzt
und die Tasten aus Silikon hnlichem Material sind hart geworden
Und funktionieren nichtmehr zuverlssig (scheint als ob auch die Platine innen nachgibt)
Werde jetzt versuchen auf Garantie zumindest ordentlichen Rabatt auf Ersatzgert zu bekommen,
dass ich dann komplett einhausen werde. Wird danach hier ein Update geben
Nachtrag: Das Service in DE hat sich umgehend gemeldet und mir entsprechende Ersatzteile geschickt – mit entsprechendem Geschick sind die auch easy ausgetauscht- toller Service !!!
In 2 1/2 Jahren bisher nur 1x Batterien gewechselt.
Unter meinen Hhnerfreuden, welche alle einen Treffer Unterschiedlicher Hersteller besitzen, funktioniert dieser mit der Einstellung mittels Lichtsensor am besten.
Etwas teuer, lohnt sich aber, wir sind sehr zufrieden.
Excellent product – my only issue was my original plywood door was too heavy and it would not lift it. Once I replaced the door with 1/4 plywood, no problem. Multiple adjustments on opening and closing are great.
Works great!! Just set the open and closing time and not have worry about getting in the chicken coop. Also, real easy to install and setup.

menus de rglages accessibles et intuitifs, calibrage de la course de trappe faire avec soins pour une ouverture prcise.
les diffrents modes minuterie, sensor, lux + permettent de trouver un fonctionnement adapt chaque utilisateur (pour ma part minuterie le matin et Lux+ le soir).
Bien vrifier les valeurs du sensor en fonction de l’endroit o est positionn l’appareil.
WE had trouble with when we first received and installed it. I was so frustrated for what we paid for this little convenience.
So we called customer servicer “WOW” super knowledgeable. For some reason our motor had come with preset timer installed so it was opening and closing at all times. The gal was super helpful and walked us through how to clear and get this working right.

I strongly recommend this chicken coop door opener. It is so wonderful not having to worry about going out to let the chickens in and out every morning and night. I really like that I can use this model with my own door. My door is pretty heavy (12×14 inch of 3/4 inch plywood) and the Extreme opens it no problem. I do wish it opened just a bit faster because the hens get impatient and crawl under it while it is still opening.

Winter #2 (Update to original review) – This winter the unit has worked every day (so far) from November 2021 and to almost mid-February 2022. January is typically our coldest winter month here in Maine and we have had consistently extreme temps for weeks, as low as -25 degrees. I have now rated this 5 stars. There is still the occasional “door recalibration” needed due to winter weather events (ice, snow) and from my ducks rushing the door in the morning before it is fully opened. So, I still check it morning and night to ensure it is opened and closed at the times it is programmed to do so. This is good to do anyway at night, in case the door closes before all your birds are safely inside. This may happen often until you get the timers programmed just right during daylight saving time changes.
Winter #1 – Original review: Easy to install, works well with the door purchased separately. Easy to program. However, no matter what batteries used, I could not get this to work from about early November 2020 to early April in 2021. l had to go out and open the door in the morning and close it in the evening, manually, and tie the string up on the door to keep it open during the day. Not ideal, considering I had purchased it specifically for our cold climate. When you have door issues, the unit will require “recalibration”. This can happen fairly frequently, depending on your birds and weather events. For this reason, I always check when it gets dark to ensure it has actually closed. Some mornings it also does not open fully, or at all, but that may be more due to it icing up or the ducks rushing then door as it is trying to open. The ability to set timers for morning and night opening/closing is a very nice feature. The lumens (brightness) option seemed to leave more room for error, like it closing before the ducks were all in. I now only use the open/close time set options.
First I love the product but hate the price!
FYI – My door is home made, a sheet of galvanized metal ( less than 6 lbs) that rides in channels cut into two pieces of hardwood flooring (channels are waxed) attacked to outside of coop.
Bought the extreme because of its 8 pound lift & the cold weather rating. Easy to install, a little tricky to program initially but persevered. Easy if just using light and dark setting to open & close. I don’t let my birds out from mid Dec to mid March so I remove it and store in house. Battery life is good, get 9 months use no problem out one set.
Lots of setting options including a time delay on the photo cell, just in case a thunderstorm darkens the sky, birds don’t get locked outside accidentally.
Bought in 2019, just put it back on for start of 3rd year. Going to order another for a second coop I’m building. So nice not having to go out and lock up the up birds especially in the summer when it’s light out till after 10pm.
Only drawback for me is the $300 price tag.
Great for my bird sitter too, when I’m on vacation since he doesn’t have to let them out in the morning or lock em up at night, he only has to check their well-being once a day at any time!

I was put off a little by the price, but I am so glad I got this! Super easy to use and set up. I’ve had it for about a year, and it still works great. Super reliable, and convenient. I had a minor technical issue, and contacted “chicken guard”. They responded the following day with photos and videos to help me trouble shoot it. Turned out to be an easy fix. I am really impressed with the product, and equally impressed with their customer service. A+ all around.
Sur ce modle “extreme”, j’ai rencontr un problme avec la cellule crpusculaire : rgle au mini, le portier se fermait alors que l’obscurit commence peine de tomber. Le SAV remplace le produit dfaillant et mme soucis : impossible rgler pour avoir une fermeture avec une certaine pnombre.
Le SAV ChickenGuard semble dpass et me propose des rglages compltement illogiques (augmenter le chiffre de la sensibilit pour fermer plus tard alors que c’est l’inverse qu’il faut faire !)
Bref, j’ai pay le prix fort pour avoir la fermeture avec cette cellule, mais n’ayant ni confiance, ni possibilit de faire le rglage souhait, je m’en sers uniquement avec la fonction programmateur horaire.
J’aurais du prendre la version d’entre de gamme !…
19/05/2021 : Je viens de passer de 1 4 toiles.
La maison ChickenGuard comprend mon problme et m’a propos de me rembourser intgralement le portier qui est videmment sous garantie, mais m’a inform que je pouvais garder le produit.
Donc trs beau geste commercial de ChikenGuard. Bravo, mme si j’aurais prfr avoir une cellule qui me donne satisfaction.
I’ve had this installed for almost a year now. I’m still really pleased with this purchase. I have to replace the batteries every 4 to 6 months. The winter is more often but it’s so worth it!

Pour viter tout problme je vous conseille vraiment le modle Extrme, son moteur est plus puissant et vous avez toutes les fonctionnalits c’est le modle le plus haut de gamme de la slection alors pour 10 ou 20 de plus que le modle de base je vous conseille de ne pas faire l’conomie, vous ne le regretterez pas.
La qualit du produit ainsi que le service aprs vente sont impeccable
Pour les tempratures en dessous de zro, la dure de vie des batteries sont trs courte!
Prvoir l’adapteur USB si vous envisag un branchement externe.

I have never written a review but I must with this product! The product was easy to install and makes homesteading a much easier. After a few months I had problems with the motor so I contacted the company. They replaced my motor right away without any problem. I really appreciated the quickness in their response and I received the replacement in 3 days. You can purchase this door with confidence.
Achat au 22 juin 2020, le moteur ne fonctionne plus, ai envoy un mail au vendeur : chickenguard : rponse le lendemain, envoie de photo du botier intrieur avec numro de srie etc.
Rponse le lendemain, la maison mre renvoi un botier extrme.
Trs satisfait du service aprs vente de Chicken Guard.
L’oggetto funziona perfettamente ma nel mio caso ha decretato la morte delle mie galline. La volpe a quanto pare studia la cosa e la capisce per venire un attimo prima che si chiuda. L’unica difesa un recinto adeguato.
The Chickenguard Extreme worked for about a week and then stopped working. It would shut off during normal open and close operation. Needless to say, I was very peeved! So I contacted the company and after a few emails back and forth they diagnosed the issue and shipped replacement parts. After the fix, the unit works properly again. All in all, I have few complaints. The customer service was top notch and quick, the product does as it should, and I can confidently recommend this product. I would have given 5 stars if the original unit worked.
Makes life easy for you and your chickens. Never worry about getting to the coop first thing to let the hens out or closing up at night to keep them safe, this automatic door opener takes care of it all.

This was super easy to install and it works wonderfully. I installed inside the chicken coop to keep out of winters weather and not replaced the batteries yet!! The chickens love it and so do I!
