This is a really cool gadget to have in my collection, it is smaller than a pack of cards and easily connects to my phone for easy use around the house or elsewhere. Our house has a large number of paint colours that were applied long before we moved in and when it takes time to do touch ups this makes it much easier to scan the wall and get a fairly close match along with the prefered brand code of paint to ask for from your local hardware store. In test on surfaces we recently painted all were either the correct colour or just 1 shade off from the right colour with a fairly reliable estimate overall.

Works great
I repainted my shed door to match the shutters. The match looks perfect! Can’t wait to use this tool for other projects.
Purchased color reader to help match colors to my new dining room chairs. The product exceeded my expectations! Absolutely love the ease and many uses for color matching!

Great Decorating Aid
I ordered this device as I was having some difficulty accurately identifying the paint colour in a few rooms in my house after moving in. The ColorReader was really easy to set up and works well on my phone. The app works well and has a number of useful features. I particularly liked the feature which suggests colours that coordinate with the main colour you match.
I would recommend this device. I feel it was good value for money and a useful bit of kit. Much easier than relying on guess work or multiple colour card matches to identify possible colour matches!

I personally like this item a lot. It was very easy to set up and pair to my phone. In order for this to work you do need to download the Datacolor app onto your phone, didn’t take long at all. Follow the prompts and make sure your Bluetooth is on, and you’re set. There is a little plastic flap that covers the lens/reader located on the bottom of the device, That flap needs to be up and folded back so you can have the reader flat against the surface you’re trying to read. This reader runs on (2) CR2032 batteries that are already in the device when you receive it.
To show an example of how this works I matched the color of a dark gold mailing folder and included a screenshot of how the match appears on your phone. I also included a couple pictures showing where the reader is located under the phone and the flap that needs to be folded back.
This is a small unit that is easy to hold, and a simple press of a button for it to read a color. It’s also based on the paints that are loaded into the system. I wouldn’t expect a unit like this to be able to perfectly match every color out there. Many years ago I was a color matcher for flexo ink, and we had a very elaborate system. Yes, the system gave great matches, but they were not always 100% and especially with lighter grays and beiges they always needed to be tweaked beyond what the system would give us. That’s how I view this little color reader. Some of the colors will be very accurate, but not all. And there are certainly some surfaces I wouldn’t even attempt to use this device on such as raised surfaces, popcorn ceilings, grasscloth wallcoverings, etc.
I really like that I can create color palettes and that my matches will be saved. I don’t expect this unit to work like an expensive color matching system, but for the cost I have no complaints and will get a lot of use out of it.
Wow!! I'm in the middle of a kitchen re-do and the EZ was a life saver! I was able to find the colors I needed and even coordinate colors. This saved me tons of time and $$.

I love this thing! We’re in the middle of repainting our house and it really came in handy to help pick the colors we were hoping for. I like that I could narrow down to Sherwin Williams since that’s the brand we prefer. It’s been a life saver!
ColorReader EZ is exactly that — easy! Easy to use, easy to match colors, easy to get resources/retailers. This has proven to be the most beneficial tool I have as a decorator. It is small, lightweight, and slips into your pocket or purse. My clients are thrilled with my ability to identify and coordinate colors of paint, fabrics, and accessories for them – so quickly and accurately. It saves me so much time and enhances my technical and visual expertise. I cannot live without it!
I loved this product. It made remodeling and decorating easy and fun. Truly magical. I highly recommend it.

Pretty accurate
Not perfect but the most accurat “paint color reader” I’ve used. This one uses it’s own device to read the paint color which makes it way more accurate than those that use a picture or cell phone cameras. It is still a little picky when it comes to older paints as the fading of the paint makes it seem like a different shade, but I’m honestly not sure how you would compensate for that. The app works well and you can save the colors it finds so it makes this one actually useful.
I think this one is a solid 4 star buy, if it was a litle ceaper it would absolutely be a 5 star buy…
Just my thoughts,
AK
Great device
Handy little device for a decent price. Really helped me with decorating my kitchen and choosing the right colours. Will definitely be recommending this to my work colleagues.
Ever wondered how to match that color with paint? This little device is it. Simply scan the color and it will tell you the exact right color mix you need for near perfect results every time. Best of all, it provides the top 3 paint color matches from the most popular paint brands to your measured color, plus coordinating colors and color scheme options. This is a designers dream tool! Go for it.

Good product for colour scheming your home.
I decorated my main room, spare room and bathroom using this tool. It really helped me with the colour scheme as it recommends particular colours that would go well with your main colour. It also recommends brands also.
Very easy to use so highly recommend.
When I saw this product, I was very interested to try it out. We had some painting touch-up to do which required matching, so I thought I would give this a try.
The unit pairs easily with your phone, actually easier than some other Bluetooth products. But when I used it to scan a smooth off-white wall, the color sample that showed up on my phone was quite a bit darker than the wall. Holding it up against the wall showed the color sample didn’t look anything like the actual color.
I understand that color representation on an LCD screen (I use an IPhone 11 Pro Max) can be way off, so I don’t necessarily hold that against this product. But it a bit disconcerting to scan a particular color and see something that seems way off.
A better test would be to scan the wall, get the recommended paint brand color value and buy a can of that color and see if it’s a good match. I have some renovation work to do in a couple of months so I’ll be giving it a shot then.

ganz gu

Video review: I found this incredibly easy to set-up and use. I got the colours I liked.
First thoughts:
I had this set up and ready to go in minutes. The packaging was just the card the device was laying on but that was all it needed. The reader identifies the colour the lens is in contact with and outputs the colour or closest match using the RAL system for accurate procurement. As RAL is a set standard you can give this to almost any European paint manufacturer and it can be recreated accurately and consistently across the board.
I don’t need to eyeball the colour of something I like and try to find a match by sight. I just pop open the lens flap, fire up the app on my phone and click the button while it’s in contact with the surface of an item I like the colour of.
Detail and things to note (See pictures and video):
Small reader device with a single button on the top side and a folding flap covering the lens on the bottom.
App was easy to find on the app store and paired with the device quickly without any issues. The device serial number detailed on the backing card is used to identify the device in the app.
Find a colour you want to use and lay the device lens on the surface, click the button to scan. The matching colour or closest match is displayed on the app with supplementary information if it’s available (RAL number, paint brand, name of the colour etc.). It will also provide the colour match in Hex and RGB although I personally wouldn’t try to shop for paint using those methods. It would however be useful in design scenarios.
Recent scans are saved in the app history for quick recall later.
Final thoughts:
Although it suggests it should be used on a hard, flat surface, I managed to match the green screen material while it was hung up on the wall. This seems to be a versatile and accurate device. If you’re familiar with locating paint colours by RAL number then this could be a powerful tool in your kit. I’ve been using it constantly on this home project and so I’d happily recommend this.

IN SINTESI
Voto:
small and portable, easy to use
The “Datacolor ColorReader EZ – Match and Coordinate Paint and Color Values Instantly” is small and very portable, as well as being easy to use.
We got the app set up quickly and scanned a variety of colours under different conditions.
We scanned the SAME wall in both shadows and in light, and the colour match was the same in both instances. The paint sample colours seem accurate and the paint brands are appropriate for my region.
There were a couple of things we didn’t like about it though.
The plastic cover for the reader sampling area is not that high quality and is likely easy to break.
Also, if you are trying to get a colour from a multicoloured surface, such as a painting, it is really difficult to place the reader appropriately because there is no window to allow for positioning.
Finally, we didn’t like that you can’t turn it off – it times out after a couple of minutes of no activity, but battery life will be decreased by how long that takes.
So, in short, it works nicely for some of your decorating needs, and is great if you are trying to match a wall-paint colour. Much better than relying on the eye.

Neat device to play with but some issues
Basically this is a color scanner. it tries to match this with known paint if it can.
I am hoping to use it for 3d printing. IE start color matching my filament so I can match up a filament as close as I can with what I am mounting the part too etc.. I know niche but something fun to try
it has trouble sometimes with lighter colors sadly which is what I tend to like.
While the app is very well made I do not like that I have to register to use it. there is no technical need for that and it should be optional not mandatory (the only reason I dinged it. unnecessary data grabs and digital leashes are a big no no for me. its my property stop forcing me to let your fingers in.
Overall compact. fun. easy to use. did I mention fun to use (IT IS fun 🙂 and decorators are going to likely enjoy this.
A nice little compact and accurate reader that just works, could do with some better instructions.
We bought a new house just before lockdown and wanted to make sure we get the exact paint colour for any little bits of the house we do up. So when I got the chance to try this out I went for it. The colour reader is tiny and connects to your phone via Bluetooth and the ColorReader app. While it was simple to connect to my phone and use there were some instructions that weren’t very clear. For example it doesn’t show where the lens flap was and it took me a while to figure this out lol. It also doesn’t show me how to turn it off when I’m done. Beside those minor annoyances, once I figured out how to use it, it worked great. The compact size of this reader means it’s great for taking with you so if you spot a colour you like somewhere you can quickly capture it in seconds with ease.

No complaints, much easier to color match rather than ripping off a panel of whatever you need to match to bring into the paint store.

Great piece of kit for home usage but not fully accurate
I ordered this off vine as a joke originally. Its basically a running joke in our family where my wife feels that a particular colour is orange and I feel it is red or vice versa. I thought this device would help to settle that debate finally. After using it for a few times, I feel that this is quite a great piece of kit and is really handy for identifying colours.
It came in a simple packaging and looked much smaller than I had imagined. As soon as I took it out, I could see that it is a premium product and felt quite nice in hands although it is mostly plastic but it didnt feel cheap. It needs to be paired with an app to be able to use it which was easy enough. Cool thing was that once connected, you can start a reading directly from the app and the reading is automatically shown on the device.
The app has a database of paint colours from a few brands but it didnt have any of the ones I am aware of. Maybe those colours will be added in future. It also provides an RGB value which can be used to find the colour of your favourite paint.
From an accuracy point of view, I think it has helped to settle the issue between me and my wife regarding colour of a couple of items. Obviously I was right in all the cases (just kidding). I think it is mostly accurate but in some cases I have seen that it gives weird results. I tried to identify the colour of my furniture but as it has wooden texture, the colour was completely off and instead of yellowish or brown colour, I got a more orangish colour.
I think it needs to be used in ideal conditions with right lighting and the correct texture of the surface to identify the colour more accurately. I am sure there are better alternatives available which are more accurate but those would be at a much higher price.
As a basic colour reader, I think it does the job and does not cost a lot. It is great for casual home usage but is not accurate enough for use by professionals.
Pros
Easy to setup and use
All accessories including batteries included
Compact size
Reasonable price for home usage
Cons
Accuracy is not great
Suffers in adverse lighting conditions
The paint database is limited
Overall, I feel this is a great piece of kit for home usage but for professional use, I would avoid due to accuracy issues.
Gadget interessante

Datacolor ColorReader EZ - Un colorimetro semi Professionale!
Very useful in the correct hands ..
OK, so the example I’ve shown aren’t really what it is designed for but at least you can see that the colours read by this tiny pocket device are pretty damn close if not exact.
Unit is very pocketable and is very light. Simple to operate and only has one button. Download the app, connect via bluetooth to your phone and you can start scanning your favourite colours. The app has an extensive library of paint charts from many manufacturers so you can pick one out or it will give you the RGB code for the colour and you can mix yourself.
I use it at work for colour matching .. as a commercial photographer colour is very important, although I can balance the camera my monitor might be out giving me a false read when editing. Vice versa too. I have a colourimeter for my monitor and colour balance card for shooting but this method of using this device is quicker.
Get a colour sample, record the RGB value and in photoshop I can replicate/touch up my image to match. I know it isn’t designed specifically for this but really, if it works why not?
It isn’t for everyone – if I didn’t have this item as a free sample I would never have used or tried it but I do have to say that if I had to purchase this with my own money I think it would be a worth investment.
Prodotto eccellente.

An absolute must have for a decorator or interior designer ( profi and enthusiast)!
Why or why did I not have this item when I was doing my living room? It would have avoided so many tiny mishaps that actually rub me the wrong way every time I glance over them! So, what you get is a device a bit bigger than your credit card and as thick as a slim wallet that is incredibly easy to use and is unbelievably precise in matching colours of anything and everything, providing you with exact combo of paint that you can take to your local hardstore to get the most perfect mix!
You can literally scan the pattern on your feature wall and when in your local homestore, you can use it to find the most perfectly matched scatter cushions or an ornament that will match your wall to the letter!
To get it all started , download an app and…literally follow the steps on the screen…
I did record a video to show you this clever little thingy in action, but Amazon did not let it through, so you will have to trust me when I say, it is a fantastic! Fantastic item!

RAL, Akzo Nobel, Sherwin Williams, Miltonia, Brillux GmbH,Rust-Oleum, NCS, Farrow & BallEinzA Farben, STO, Savage Universal, Duha, Valspar.
* salvataggio della lettura con aggiornamento di uno storico sempre a disposizione per eventuali necessit;
* evidenziare le mazzette elettroniche dei colori a cui fa riferimento la collezione individuata;
* evidenziare i colori coordinati con quello letto;
* salvare il campione;
* creare una palette successivamente richiamabile.

Handy for crafters wanting to colour match
This is a super handy little device for crafters/sewests/quilters looking to colour match. While the main point of it is to match paint colours, the app provides RGB, hex, and CIELAB colour information. This info is super handy when comparing fabrics, paints, papers, etc.
The main use for this, of course, is for matching paint colours. The app comes loaded with the palettes for several brands like Behr, Benjamin Moore, and Sherwin Williams. We recently painted our home with a few different shades of Benjamin Moore paint and the reader was able to correctly identify two of the shades, and picked a near identical shade for the third colour. With this in mind, I feel like this device is best to use if you want a paint colour very similar to what you are scanning, but I wouldn’t use it to pick the right colour to, say, repaint a small section of a wall.
Do be aware that the results given by the device can change reading to reading depending on the ambient light and the pressure you are applying to the device when doing the reading.
Included brands at time of review:
– Ace Hardware (Clark + Kensington, Mix+Match)
– Behr (Interior/Exterior Colour Collection, Marquee)
– Benjamin Moore (Affinity Collection, Classics, Collections, Colour Preview, Colour Stories, Willamsburg)
– Cloverdale (Artisan)
– Dryvit (Colour at Your Fingertips)
– Farrow & Ball (Colours)
– Kelly-Moore (ColorStudio Collection)
– M.L. Campbell (Never Compromise Colours)
– Miller Paint (Colour IS)
– PPG (The Voice of Colour)
– RAL (Design D2, K1 Classic, K5 Classic, K7 Classic)
– RAL (E3 Effects)
– Savage Universal (Savage Seamless Background Paper)
– Sherwin Williams (Colour Journeys, Colour Snap)
– True Value (Beauty by Design)
– Valspar (Colour Gallery, Mood Makers, Valspar 1750)
– Valspar/Sherwin Williams (Valspar at Ace)
Super Sympa 😉
Handy for crafters wanting to colour match
This is a super handy little device for crafters/sewests/quilters looking to colour match. While the main point of it is to match paint colours, the app provides RGB, hex, and CIELAB colour information. This info is super handy when comparing fabrics, paints, papers, etc.
The main use for this, of course, is for matching paint colours. The app comes loaded with the palettes for several brands like Behr, Benjamin Moore, and Sherwin Williams. We recently painted our home with a few different shades of Benjamin Moore paint and the reader was able to correctly identify two of the shades, and picked a near identical shade for the third colour. With this in mind, I feel like this device is best to use if you want a paint colour very similar to what you are scanning, but I wouldn’t use it to pick the right colour to, say, repaint a small section of a wall.
Do be aware that the results given by the device can change reading to reading depending on the ambient light and the pressure you are applying to the device when doing the reading.
Included brands at time of review:
– Ace Hardware (Clark + Kensington, Mix+Match)
– Behr (Interior/Exterior Colour Collection, Marquee)
– Benjamin Moore (Affinity Collection, Classics, Collections, Colour Preview, Colour Stories, Willamsburg)
– Cloverdale (Artisan)
– Dryvit (Colour at Your Fingertips)
– Farrow & Ball (Colours)
– Kelly-Moore (ColorStudio Collection)
– M.L. Campbell (Never Compromise Colours)
– Miller Paint (Colour IS)
– PPG (The Voice of Colour)
– RAL (Design D2, K1 Classic, K5 Classic, K7 Classic)
– RAL (E3 Effects)
– Savage Universal (Savage Seamless Background Paper)
– Sherwin Williams (Colour Journeys, Colour Snap)
– True Value (Beauty by Design)
– Valspar (Colour Gallery, Mood Makers, Valspar 1750)
– Valspar/Sherwin Williams (Valspar at Ace)
I tested the Datacolor color reader using a large number of paint chip samples from Home Depot and Lowes. On darker colors the camera was virtually 100% correct. The beauty of this system is that it has a library off all the paint colors of all better known paint brands. You can dial in the paint brand or brands you want to test out and then use the camera to “shoot” the paint chips you have from that brand. As I noted, for darker colors the camera could name the exact brand/color AND provide you with the paint mix code.
The camera did struggle a bit with very light colors, however. And it seemed the lighter the color (towards white white) the less accurate it was. The camera would still give you a very close match…sometimes the exact color of the sample and sometime it listed the correct color as its “second choice”. But even if it didn’t have the exact color code I believe the code it gave would be so close you could not detect the difference with the naked eye.
Where the camera really struggled, however, was with extremely rough surfaces. And this comes as no surprise since the product description clearly states the paint surface must be relatively smooth to get an accurate reading. Interestingly, the camera worked perfectly on the textured walls of our living room giving the exact paint code for those recently painted walls. However, when I tried it on our exterior stucco, the results were not at all close. For such rough surface I believe you are better off just getting paint samples and eyeballing it.
But for smoother surfaces this color reader can be a valuable tool.
Useful for professionals
This wee device came in a simple plastic packaging which wasn’t really impressive for the price you pay for device. Easy to download software on ur mobile and very easy to connect the device. Comes with a battery already in the device. No lanyard supplied with the device.
I’m not a professional so I thought it would be nice to have one in the house for some domestic use. Not very easy to understand for a non professional. It gives you reading in no time but they are not 100% accurate. Instructions are limited so you actually struggle to understand what is what.
Another problem with the device that there is no power off switch. It stays on for a while before it goes to standby mode automatically.
Overall a good pocket size colour reader for professional who can actually understand the language.

It works most of the time.
My walls have been painted varying shades of yellow for longer than the backup paint has lasted. I have a few spots on the walls that need a touchup but I know trying to guess the color is a fool’s errand. This device sometimes got the color right the first time and other times, it wasn’t even in the ballpark. I would try a few more times and eventually, it pulled a close match. I went and bought the samples and they did in fact, match!
Because I like to explore, I used this on the computer to match colors on websites, furniture, clothing, etc. and to my surprise, it did an amazing job of color matching, the first time, almost every time. So, my suggestion is that although this tool is perhaps intended specifically for wall/house paint, there are other ways that it can be used if you think outside the box.
Works well, with a couple quirks.
This is really easy to use. Install the ColorReader app, turn the device on, and it will find it automatically and connect. You answer a few short registration questions, update the colour palettes (automatic) and it’s ready to go. At this point you just hold the device up to a wall (or anything else, really) and either press the read button in the app or the button on the device directly and nearly instantly you’ll get a reading of the colour on your phone.
I have about a 50% success rate in it getting the exact paint colour and manufacturer correct in my house, but it was last painted 4 years ago with Benjamin Moore colours. I was impressed it got some of them exactly right at all. The ones it didn’t get right, the colour picked up looks almost identical to me anyway and I think in most cases would probably be “good enough” for homeowners looking for a match. I like that it even gives you the colour in the app in terms of RGB and HEX values in case you’re trying to use these colours digitally – a nice touch.
Other than not getting the colour 100% correct (which I admit could just as well be a mixing error when my paints were made than anything) the most major annoyance with this has been that it sometimes randomly disconnects from the app and at least on my phone, is kind of difficult to get it to connect again without force closing the app all the way down, waiting for the device to go back to sleep (automatic) and then starting over. Even though that’s kind of annoying, I don’t think it’s a deal breaker.

Lots of manufacturers to select from
Pros:
Nice and compact
Easy to sync to my phone
Many manufacturers/vendors to select from
Like the complementary color feature
Cons:
Very thin plastic
This is such a fun thing to use. I love the fact that it tells you all the manufacturers/vendors that supply the colors analysed. This works fast and analyses the options just a fast. Easy to use and sync with your phone. I’ve actually checked and verified the colors and its almost bang on. A little concerned about how thin the product is. It really is not made very well and I can see it getting cracked pretty quickly. All in all, a fun and accurate reading of colors!
If you are doing any type of work with color, this little device is pretty neat for identifying colors. It’s very easy to pair it with a mobile device (I tested on Android), and it’s very easy to do spot color readings.
The app is itself pretty easy to use, and you can trigger a reading by using the button on the reader or via the application.
DataColor does have a database of paint colors from major brands, but it’s pretty small, in my opinion. It also does not have the Pantone database (I’m guessing that’s because of licensing fees which would ultimately raise the price of the device).
Personally, I really like that it provides hexadecimal and RGB values so that you can take real world colors and integrate them into your digital designs.
Its biggest downside has very little to do with the device itself. The problem is color calibration on your mobile device’s screen. Apple devices are very good for color accuracy, but Android devices are all over the map. On my Huawei P20 Pro, the colors don’t look exactly like the captured color (because of how I set it up), and when I enter in the hex code on my computer monitor, which is calibrated more accurately than my phone, the colors are a little different there too. For me, that’s not a big issue, but for someone who cares about accuracy, they’re going to need to spend some time calibrating the accuracy of their phone display and any other display they’re using the colors with.
This is obviously a niche device, and because it’s the entry level product in the ColorReader product line, it’s also a consumer grade device, as its first match accuracy is only around 85%. Pro-level users will definitely want to spend the extra money on a ColorReader or ColorReader Pro (over 92% first match accuracy).
Having said that, for any hobbyist who is working with colors a lot, this is a fantastic device that doesn’t break the bank.
The Good Parts
– Very easy to set up and use
– Batteries included (2 x CR2032)
– Mobile app (tested on Android) is user friendly
– Mobile app provides CIE Lab, RGB and Hex values
– Can help match colors with major paint brands (provided Datacolor has access to their latest database)
– App can recommend colors that coordinate with the colour in a reading
– Reasonably priced for what it does
Hit or Miss
– 85% or better accuracy, which is fair for the price. You can get 92% or better accuracy if you spend more on a higher model ColorReader
– Requires use of a mobile app on iOS or Android
– The paint database is not as comprehensive as I’d like, especially for Canadians
– Your user experience could be limited by the colour calibration of your phone’s display and any other display that you are using the colours on, as colours may look off. This is most likely a problem with your displays or device setup, not the DataColor reader.
– Batteries are not rechargeable (the higher models – at $129 MSRP and $329 MSRP are rechargeable). On the other hand CR2032 cells are pretty inexpensive. Whether it’s worth upgrading to a rechargeable model will depend on how often you use the reader in the real world, and whether you need the higher first match accuracy of a higher model.

I can see how amazing this would be for paint matching. We're in a rental and need to cover some patches on the wall, and I tried to match, but every inch, this would change and recommend something different, also with a slight green tinge, but the walls are off-white. So, I would rate this lower, but I am actually using this for a totally different purpose! I'm working on a website for crafting, and this is invaluable for finding the hex color of inks and markers! I am a long-time web designer, and often, people want me to match logos and other images for websites, and this is just the tool needed for that! It also has RGB codes, and supposedly Pantone, but I am trying to find out how to access that. I'm super happy with this for my particular use even if it's iffy about paint colors!

Nifty Gadge
Super easy to set up with the app and also use. It’s somewhat accurate at matching colours, I did test it around the house which is mainly in farrow and ball colours and it matched most of them correctly. It does depend highly on the lighting on the room as to what colour gets matched with.
I think this is actually best to match colours in wallpaper. If you’re doing an accent wall with wallpaper and want to do a complimentary colour for the other walls this gadget is great and I like that it gives more than one colour match.
I also like that you can create colour “stories” within the app to keep track of colours you want for different rooms or projects.
ideal for decorating
we have used ths to match the colour of the paint in my daughters room as we could not remember the shade of paint that we bought . it took the reading and we managed to find the exact match for what she had on the wall

Not really pro-accurate but I can see this being useful for artistic people
After testing this device from a novice decorator point of view, I can see this being useful in some situations but probably not for everyone.
The device itself is small powered by an included CR3203 button battery. There is an app to download, and once switched on it will connect to the app, then all you have to do is to place it on the object you want the colour test and press the button, the app will then give you the colour information and you may choose the best matching colour products that they recommend from a library.
It seems simple enough. However, I am not sure about a couple of things:
– The library of colour products seem to gear towards German market, I only recognise Valspar products that I can get from B&Q and their paints are not cheap
– The device has no ‘off’ button, once it is on you will need to wait for it to turn off by itself
The colour information given seems to be comprehensive,
As to how close this is matching I can only trust their ad which is >85%, whereas the other devices from this company have higher accuracy >90%+ . So if you are a colour professional I don’t think you will go for this model.
I can see that this will be useful if there is a colour that you really like matching from an object or a custom mix, say you want your room matching the colour of your favourite vase, this device will help you with the colour information (hex code, RAL etc) and you may take this code to shops for them to mix.
It seems to fill a very narrow gap in the market, people probably just go for the readily available colours for a close match. But if you are really colour sensitive, or you have colour weakness that you are not able to match any colour correctly with your eyes, then this device can help.
This tiny device (about the size of a box of mints) is powered by two standard CR2032 button batteries (provided). It has a single button which is used to power it up (the button then lights up green) and trigger a reading. It connects to a smartphone (iOS or Android) over Bluetooth with the manufacturer’s ColorReader app.
The app is very polished and a pleasure to use. The designers clearly put a lot of thought into it, and it shows. Initial connection to the device is ridiculously easy (if you’ve ever used bluetooth accessories for your phone you know that it can be hit or miss), and using the app itself is very simple despite advanced capabilities.
The workflow is very simple: position the reader right against a surface to read, press the button, and presto! the color reading is added to your history. Color readings can be added to palettes you can name, and they can be matched to paint collections from popular vendors (Behr, Sherwin Williams, Ace, Benjamin Moore, and many others). Once you pick a match, you can hit the “Coordinate Colors” button and find matching colors using a variety of schemes, and save these to a named palette. Then all you have to do is go buy those paints!
There are some expected limitations, such as the impossibility to accurately read metallic colors (colorimeters capable of doing this are considerably more expensive and complex) and requires a flat surface for an accurate reading. I am using it to read paint color on textured walls, and the readings vary (slightly) depending on the reading spot. I contacted the manufacturer via their website and received a prompt and detailed reply, explaining how to best handle the situation (I know it’s not going to be perfect, all I need is close enough)
Such a tiny, inexpensive colorimeter is just unbelievable, and the quality and ease of use of the app are top notch.
If you do any sort of home improvement, interior decoration, that requires paint color matching, it’s an inexpensive and invaluable tool, that also happens to be fun to use. Highly recommended.
good tool for decorating
This is a great tool for when you are decorating, it matches colour so well and soe aay to connect to your phone once you get the app. It is easy to use once you get the hang of it.
Mein Mops in Glory Grey / Spannendes Gadge

I have been waiting for ages for this to be invented. I remember years ago being in Home Depot where they had a "color analyser" thing by the paints. I do a ton of painting. But you could bring in a piece of fabric or what not and the color scanner thing would scan it and tell you which color paint to buy to match. I remember thinking then this should be something I can do from home someday. Well now I can do it from ANYWHERE. See a color you like out in the world? Scan it in seconds and BOOM you get 3 different options of paints to buy. Absolutely awesome to use when you have to do some touch ups in a room but have no paint. The people who had this house before me painted the bathroom a nice blue, but left no paint. Scan it with this and boom - now I can touch up all those spots from when I upgraded the hardware in there. So awesome. This is a godsend for anyone who does decorating and especially painting!!!

Für mich als Hobbyheimwerker völlig ausreichend
Hallo,
Arriva semplicemente corredato dalle istruzioni in inglese.
E dopo pronta all’uso.
Direkte Farberkennung Top, hinter Glas Flop, App sehr nützlich
Alles so schön bunt hier… ;-)
