Clean the surface…

All packs include a 40-page Bird Control Guide, which features a in-depth bird spike installation guide. We recommend reading this before starting installation.

STEP 1: Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry and free from bird droppings.

Apply the glue…

STEP 2: Squeeze a 10 mm bead of Defender Fixing Silicone along the base of the spike. A thicker bead may be necessary if the surface is un-even. A caulking gun will be required if using but is not supplied.

Push down on to ledge…

STEP 3: Place the spike towards the front of the ledge and push down firmly. The glue will ooze through the fixing silicone holes, locking the spike in to position. For wider ledges, two or more rows may be required or consider using Defender Wide Plastic Bird Spikes.

Snap in to smaller pieces…

STEP 4: Every effort should be made to spike all possible landing sites that are 5 cm or greater. The spikes can easily be snapped to size, along 9 patented grooves, using your fingers. The spikes are also flexible, and if screwed or cable tied can accommodate a curved surface.

When attaching to brick it’s far easier to put screws above the spikes and loop some wire through the holes opposed to screwing directly into the spikes.
Being that the product is clear coloured makes them more inconspicuous and less of an eye sore.
Overall happy with the spikes themselves however the price seems steep for what is a handful of plastic.

I had a major problem with a flock of 32 Doves/Pigeons sitting on the edge of my bungalow roof and depositing droppings all over our garden patio. Our window cleaner suggested these spikes and he fitted them in about half an hour. Easy to do if you can get up a ladder to do it. To my surprise they work and our patio is now clean. The birds remain in the area but have sought an alternative perch. I am very pleased as this has proved to be quite a simple solution to what had seemed to be a very difficult problem.

I used these on the bottom of the balcony rails to keep the pigeons from getting in underneath the rail. They also work well in the corners of the balcony area as the pigeons like to sleep there

Bought these to put on my fence as i fitted some artificial grass and the pigeons kept doing their business on the grass.

Since fitting i have had no more issues and with being clear plastic they look good.

We are very pleased with our purchase as we have a problem with seagulls in this area being by the coast. The spikes look fine on our roof, but the glue was just about sufficient for the length of installation. Would definitely recommend for anyone who has problems with large birds trying to nest around chimney stacks or perching on the ridge tiles.

These are plastic spikes and certainly not “heavy-duty”, but they’ve done the job of stopping wood pigeons sitting on (and messing on) my greenhouse ridge. Very easy to stick on. I would recommend.

I got these to stop a huge great wood pigeion from landing on and in my windowbox after the bird food. I got the narrow ones and broke them up into pieces to put between the plants held in place with toothpicks. Do the job perfectly interspersed with barbeque sticks. Sticking to the edge of the box though you really need to get some silicone glue or plastic to plastic glue. This company do some but it is huge bottles and you need one of those holder squeezer things.

Easy to install, solved the problem immediately and didn’t interfere with the TV signal when installed on the aerial.

I have a static caravan near trees which seems to attract pigeons wearing boots. Since installing this product the roof is still landed on but not nearly so often and we are able to cope with their noise much better. They’ve stayed attached now for 2 years despite the Northumberland weather – the roof can get scorching hot in the summer sun and sees it’s share of rain and wind.

Bought for a nursery school where a sloping roof eave had become a favoured roosting spot for pigeons, and their poop was creating a bio hazard in the playground. I cleaned the ledge of waste, found the spikes easy to cut with pliers to shape the first strip to fit in an awkward corner, and fitted the remainder in a double row. The glue was easy to apply using a caulking gun, and job was done in a few minutes. All the proof I needed was that all spikes are still intact a month later – not broken – and stuck where I installed them, no pigeons, no mess. Time will tell how long they last up there, but so far I’m very pleased with the swift delivery, the ease of use , and the results . I definitely recommend this product – it worked !

Pigeons were increasingly being attracted into the garden by seeds falling from garden bird feeder. Not much to be done but what the big problem was that they were perching along trellis fitted along sides of deck and the mess on the deck was unsightly, unhealthy not to mention expensive as the mess lifted the paint when cleaned off.
Enter Defender plastic pigeon spikes. Result, still pigeons around, but no perching on trellis and consequently no mess whatsover. First day or two the aborted landings provided entertainment, but the point is no birds harmed.
The pack is complete with correct glue cartridge (You will need a cartridge gun to use) instructionand booklet including pest birds prevention hints etc is in fact very interesting. I fitted using very small brass screws through the holes which run right along the base which worked perfectly. The ability of the spikes to be easily snapped enabled exact fit to length. Finally, the transparent plastic means the spikes are surprisingly unobtrusive. Excellent all round product.

These bird spikes were easy to adhere to fence and now the fence down the side of the house is no longer the local pigeon loo. Prior to placing these spikes the paving slabs near our garden shed were covered with pigeon poo which when dry is not good for anyone and certainly not for asthma sufferer. I am very pleased indeed.

Yet to see if they keep the pigeons away. Only gripe is I only got one tube of glue to do 15m of spikes. I suspect there would not have been enough glue had I needed to use it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe have 3 audio sonic repellants on the balcony the pigeons still land long enough to leave behind a trail of excrement. We brought twirling batons and hung them along the balcony the birds just laughed. We hung noisy metal defective strips but the annoyed us and the neighbours got tangled up and didn’t deter a single pidgin. They say pigeons are. Dry intelligent they were used to carry messages during World Wars they can recognise human faces. They are so intelligent they realise that if they try and land on our balcony again they will get stabbed with spikes. At last! Something has worked the kids can go out on the balcony and no more coo cooing first thing in the morning. Very grateful improved our lives A note: we used plastic ties to secure them to the railings as the landlord didn’t want us using glue they worked fine also the bonus of being able to lower them if we are using the balcony so not hazardous to humans

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersA neighbour kept feeding the pigeons and would not stop despite being asked, so I had a problem with the pigeons for a while. As long as they were getting fed they were never going to move on. I bought these spike strips along with a waterproof adhesive. The strips have ‘weak’ points along their length so they can be broken to suitable lengths to fit the window ledge. I first scrubbed the windows ledges to get rid of all the bird mess and provide a clean surface for the adhesive. The strips were easily fixed in place with the adhesive. I’ve had them in place for over a year now and they have worked perfectly. I no longer have problems with pigeons. Prior to that I couldn’t even open my windows because of them. In my case they have been 100% effective. I thought that the spikes might have broken or become brittle over time but they seem absolutely fine. Can’t recommend them highly enough.

  59. The Editors says:

     United Kingdom

I used three small brass screws to hold each section to the top of a wooden fence (I’ll keep the glue for DIY). Seeing birds getting to a few inches away and trying to reverse is a good laugh (if a little cruel). They work 100% and don’t harm the birds. TIP: make sure there are no gaps between sections, and a determined cat could probably snap the plastic spines and get past.

I installed them along the corner of my fence where my garden furniture is, and I’ve not had a single poop on it since! I have a fence that goes across my garden to section it off and it always had pigeons sitting on it and messing all over my plants and the fence itself it was disgusting and then squirrels would come and sit and peel bits of wood of it too. Now they cannot land on it and although the squirrels will try to walk across it from time to time they cannot stop and settle to pull off bits of wood anymore, mostly they avoid it altogether. Definitely recommend and have bought several boxes to do the whole lot.

We have used these spikes on our pergola this year to stop the pigeons tearing our wisteria apart. If you leave a small space without spikes they will still squeeze in. So don’t leave too big a space between strips. But the spikes are an easy first step deterrent. They are inconspicuous and blend in with climbing plants. I am sure that we will be purchasing more.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThese spikes were Purchased to attach to a small ornamental garden pond to stop the birds drinking water and potentially eating my fish. They feel quite flimsy but are doing an excellent job in stopping large crows and pigeons perching where I don’t want them. I have found it difficult to purchase screws small enough to use but this is a minor irritation.

These spikes were only installed yesterday. So far so good.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersNice spikes installed these and as they are now up no pigeons are coming into the garden. I was in the garden installing these when a couple of wood pigeons did fly towards my fence but soon flew the other way when they must have noticed what I bring put up. It’s stopped birds pooping on my decking so it’s a lot more hygienic for my 2 baby’s to crawl along knowing they ain’t going to be picking bird poop up.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersCertainly does the job. I should have bought spikes that were slightly wider to make certain that the pigeons definitely couldn’t get onto the swing beam. In the early days after fitting, a did see a pigeon try to get onto the beam (as it had done so, so MANY times before). It was successful, but was obviously a bit confused and couldn’t move much. It soon got fed up and left. No poo on my kids swing seats anymore so it has still done the job.
