So to start, like a lot of people I bought this partly because of the rep.of dualit+the pretty design.Yes,its a shedload of money for a kettle, but one hopes for durability. So,addressing the rather mixed reviews this kettle has on Amazon, first the negative bits. Its true you cant fill this kettle via the spout-the image you see gently suggests this…The lid is stiff, umm, not really,if its an issue, there ARE instructions in the booklet received with it.Another negative from reviews, you can’t see the water level-well,said reviewers are semi-blind at best-I have no issues as a 60 yr old!In truth, its a pretty, well built premium kettle from a trusted British brand.
But,lets deal with the REAL negatives.
1.At this price point Dualit should back this kettle up with a 3 yr guarantee-you get 1!
I bought this from a well known high street/online retailer who have the guts/integrity to offer a 2 year guarantee on 3d party manufacturers -why dont dualit?
Also, dualit market this item as ‘engineered and designed in The u.k’,but as ever, its built in China-be HONEST,and dont try to take your customers for mugs.Another huge Elephant in the room-yes the element IS replaceable-but that involves sending it back at your cost, and stomaching a 50.00 fee (also no kettle for what-10/14 days?),So not ideal…In summary, dualit should STAND BEHIND this v.expensive kettle and give a 3 year guarantee, and also-just like their iconic toasters-offer a user replaceable element which the consumer can home replace.Work to be done by Dualit tbh to reassure customers who are spending a LOT of money on their small kitchen appliances.
Looks classy. Very smart. Low noise. Quick boil. Just wish it had a light so you can easily see how much water is in the kettle.
Liked everything about apart from the price compared with the Architect model. Happy to pay it now we’ve used it.
Great all round kettle, although a little wobbly on its stand and awkward to open particularly when hot. Looks great and nice build quality.
Bought this for second hand and it is fantastic. Good quality. Boils instantly.
Ok so it’s really expensive. But it really is in a league of it’s own. I chose the instalment method over 5 months which takes the sting out a bit. But zero regrets. Love just looking at it!!
Classic Brit made (Crawley,Sussex) of course overpriced for what you get but you do get is a iconic proper kettle it looks good to with its brass embellishments also have the matching toaste
I like using the kettle: the weight feels good, it pours well without dripping. My main problem with it is that I have a job knowing when it has just started to boil. The clear part to see the water inside is not well illuminated, and as black tea should be made just off the boil, it is difficult to know just when to pour (my hearing is not good so I need to rely solely on my not very good eye sight).
If you can buy a second hand (as new) version like I did, this kettle won’t break the bank and I’d say it’s worth it, but it’s hard to say if it’s genuinely worth the RRP cost. It is, however, undeniably a fantastic kettle. Very quiet, very stylish, and boils quickly. It’s ergonomic but not in a wanky way, and it really does look good.
We had this kettle in a holiday cottage and I was really impressed with its quiet performance and smart appearance. Living in a hard water area, I am determined not to let water spots spoil its appearance so I am wiping it daily! We have had a Dualit toaster for years so I know they last well. It is expensive but so far, I think worth it. Tiny minus point, I think it could shut off slightly quicker.
This is the second of these kettles that I have owned, the first lasted 6 years and I then bought a Russell Hobbs kettle for a lot less money, well that lasted all of six months before it started to leak so I have bitten the bullet again and splashed out for another Dualit. Why did I even bother with another make ? these are just supperior in every way. It pours precicelly where you want it too with no spillage, very quiet and not too shabby a boiling time either. Highly recommended and British as well !!
This kettle is very nice .
Sturdy and well made.
The Lid is easy to open and pours really well.
Overall I am very pleased with this kettle , I had read many reviews which had made me think hard before buying this kettle . I am pleased I did . It is expensive but well worth it and if you think about it a kettle is probably the most used item in your house many times a day . So why not pay that much for quality.
I drink a lot of coffee,
I drink a lot of tea,
I boil a lot of water,
This is the kettle for me.
It was not cheap nor cheerful,
But I’m told it’s built to last,
You can at least repair it,
Which you couldn’t in the past.
Really pleased with this kettle, it boils fast, looks smart and pours well.
Not as quite as Imagined since it had the top quiet rating but still alot less noisy than my previous dualit, I stuck to Dualit as I have other Dualit items in the kitchen and they have all lasted me quite well, Previous kettle lasted approx 5 years
Love this kettle but need put price down
But I love this kettle look & not noisy so that very good boiling fast which I like too
Like style kettle too but price is pricey but I wanted it ! So far happy
Got this to match my classic toaster that I’ve had for 20years and still going strong
Hope this lasts as long
This kettle is so much quieter than any others I have had. I think the reduction in noise level easily justifies the price. Boils quickly enough. Nicely built and good looking too.
Hard to find the perfect kettle these days. All seem to be built cheaply. This kettle is not cheap, it has a heft and look that suggests quality. I bought it to replace our 6 year old Dualit Architect kettle, which was operating perfectly until suddenly the button stopped engaging.
Pros:
Stainless steel finish looks good
Limited plastic in the boil chamber (only cup display, hinge and filter are plastic)
Extremely quiet! Our Dualit Architect was noisy that you couldn’t watch TV or have a phone call in our open plan living space when it was on – this kettle is so much better – it really is a whisper boil, totally unintrusive.
Having both ml and cups measure has been unexpectedly useful
Apparently replaceable heating element (but I’ll believe it if/when we see it)
Really quick boil especially for two/three cups
Cons:
Not a fan of the manual pull lid, suspect it’ll become loose in future, but haven’t been burnt by it yet
The handle has a plastic back bit which can flex sightly and feels cheap, let’s the whole kettle down in terms of quality
Still not entirely plastic-free in the boil chamber, which feels like a missed opportunity
Activation switch does not feel robust at all, this was the failure point of the Architect so I’ll not be surprised if this is first to fail
Dualit promote themselves as a premium quality brand – but they clearly aren’t committed to repairability or longevity, only a 1 year guarantee for a kettle of this expense is pathetic. Also the product brochure included with the kettle includes 400 coffee machines which include the description “depending on the failure, we *might* be able to repair this”. Really disappointing to see the brand haven’t woken up to the need and demand for repairability and reduced environmental waste – I would definitely pay a little more for something I know could be repaired in 10 years from now.
Summary: I researched ages to try to find a powerful, reliable, kettle. Something that should last at least as long as our previous 6yr old Dualit. This kettle isn’t perfect and let’s itself down in a number of silly areas, but we’re happy enough with the product so far. The quiet boiling is it’s nicest feature from my perspective.
Time will tell – I will update this review if it begins to play up.
We already had the same kettle for 6-years but it died we do have a matching toaster and we also have a coffee machine from the same people so we decided to buy the same kettle to replace the old one. Dualit are a fabulous brand.
A stylish kettle from Dualit. Only criticism is that the lid can be stiff to pull open and a switch to press to open the lid would have earned it a 5 star review.
The quality of this kettle is second to none.
Expensive but…you get what you pay for.
Boils water, exactly what it’s expected.to do. Pours without spilling and I quite simply love i
I already own this kettle. I love it for its elegant design and peerless quality.
I bought another, which this review is for, for my daughter as a present. She has a steampunk tendency and the copper highlighting suits her style.
My existing one is now 11 years old. It is still clean and bright, has never needed more than basic care and works perfectly every time.
Expensive but worth it.
Love the design and the build quality- had a run of kettles that kept not wanting to play. Steam escaping, not stopping boiling etc. So bit the bullet and bought this one. Love the idea that replacement parts are available, and from the quality of the kettles build I can say that it’s here to stay. It really is a piece of craftsmanship-the pour comes straight out the side which takes a minute to get used to, and I never thought of there being such a thing as a ‘good’ pour but it’s smooth and doesn’t spill/splash at all. The downside to this is that it’s heavy, not much of a problem when it’s for a few cups but full it gives you a bit of a workout!
There’s a gauge on both sides of the kettle, one with measurements and one with cups, it’s handy to be able to see the fill from both sides- hadn’t really thought about it before!
I don’t know that it’s any quieter than any other kettle, but I’m no expert- to me it sounds like a kettle!
Finally, yes I know it’s a totally overpriced kettle- but I don’t plan on buying another one ! I’m thinking of it as an investment in a decent cuppa!
I absolutely love this kettle, the spout is brilliant just like a teapot no splitting pours beautifully.
Looks very stylish and boils water at a whisper volume. The element can be replaced for the life of the kettle so no more electrical waste going to landfill.
After months of use I am still very happy with my shiny kettle. It is fast and quiet, easy to top up and descale. The spout doesn’t drip and doesn’t splash boiling hot water everywhere. Winning classic looks, perfect.
Brilliant kettle that looks stylish . It boils fast and quietly. It’s UK made and I like that the element can be replaced so it means it’s going to last. Great quality.
This is a stylish-looking kettle, which is why I bought it. It performs well, but then so do most other kettles. Build quality appears to be good. It is expensive and you are paying for the brand.
I have the toaster, the bagel version so had to have this to match, but extremely good quality
Wanted to buy the Dualit Classic kettle to match the Dualit Classic toaster I had recently bought.
Never thought I’d be waxing so lyrical about a kettle! It looks great and is sooo much quieter than my previous rapid boil kettle, can still hear the radio whilst it’s boiling. It also pours well, so no drips or splashes. Whilst it’s not cheap I think it is worth the money, particularly when it is possible to get a new element fitted should it be necessary in the future.
Relatively expensive, but if it lasts half as long as our Dualit toaster (nearly 25 years) it’ll work out good value. Buy cheap buy twice…
A classic style!
Boils the water very fast with almost no noise
Lovely kettle that looks and feels too quality. Boules quickly and quietly compared to others too and I love the fact it is repairable and not just throw away
I love this kettle. My mum had one and I wanted one for myself. It looks stylish and boils really well..
Bought this kettle for two reasons. One to match my dualit toaster but most importantly because it was quiet boil .My old kettle sounded like a plane taking off .Although this kettle is alot quieter I though it would be almost silent. Its not ,but it is better than my last kettle. I really think it comes down to the fact it is metal .I have gone through many kettles over the years and I find that the glass and plastic ones are definitely quieter .I love stainless steel appliances so I will put up with a kettle that is a little noisy .Love this kettle even if it’s not as quiet as I thought it would be .
Excellent service from seller and Amazon delivery driver. I have owned one of these kettles before, this one is much quieter and the problems with the lid on the older model have been resolved. Dualit products are always of good quality and can be repaired.
Love the look of this kettle. It’s quiet and it boils fast.
Sick and tired of noisy kettles? Sick and tired of quieter kettles that blow up two months after guarantee expires? Sick of kettles that look well made but slowly start to get wobbly lids, hinges, switches?
This is reassuringly expensive and well made. Buy right but once. Granted it will possibly blow its element some day, but like their toaster a few screws and a bit of patience and it can be repaired rather than thrown away.
Kettle feels good in your hand. Drops onto the base in a nice weighted manner. Hinged lid only took a couple of days to get used to – no problem at all and therefore no silly lifting hinge button to wear out. Pouring spout works really nicely and not only doesn’t drip but pours at a controlled flow regardless of tipping angle- I hate how some kettles allow a gush of potentially scalding water if you tip without care.
Four stars for value for money justified by expectation of longevity through maintenance or repair no other kettle offers (that I’m aware)
I’ve left it a couple of months between purchase and writing this. I’m very pleased with my purchase, the kettle is well made and solid. It’s not too heavy but is substantial and doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy.
The boil seems very quick and it’s a lot quieter than other kettles (including the 8 year old dualit that this kettle replaced).
The kettle also looks very good on my worktop. The stainless steel is very easy to clean and doesn’t show drip marks or fingers prints if wiped properly. I’d highly recommend.
This is a replacement for an identical one which after 6 years gave up the ghost. Repairs would have cost nearly as much as replacing with like for like, which we did.
