I mostly got this for an extra travel interface. I was very surprise how great the pre amps are on this unit.
great for guitar vocals bass and keys. everything sounds great.

the loop playback outputs also a great optio

It’s incredibly easy to use, making it perfect for both beginners and professionals. The interface itself is very sleek and modern-looking, with a simple yet intuitive design. The knobs and buttons are responsive and easy to adjust, and the LED indicators make it easy to see what’s going on.

I love how versatile this interface is, with multiple inputs and outputs that can handle a variety of different audio setups.

This interface is awesome, but I still am struggling to get it to work with the Cubase DAW that it comes with. I have followed every single guide on Google, reddit and youtube, but still not working. I managed to download Amplitube free version and am working with that for now. But man I wish I could get this to work with Cubase.

I bought this to use all the amps in garage band. Really happy with the device, works as described, now to learn how to use it properly with the added software and tutorials

My Peavey 6 finally bit the dust after years of use and I was looking for something that would look a little cleaner on my desk and take up less space, this took me to the Evo 4. This device was plug and play after downloading some software! I will say for my specific needs, the autogain feature is almost completely useless, but for studio recording or a podcast I feel like it would be a great feature. Adjusting the gain manually took less than 5 minutes after spending some time playing with my volume levels and I couldn’t be happier!

I know this is aimed mostly at musicians, but I bought this first and foremost for gaming / streaming / podcasting and I am generally over the moon with the sound reproduction.

Using it with a Shure MV7, the SM7B’s little brother, but much like the SM7B, the MV7 is a gain hungry mic that requires a minimum of 55dB of gain from your interface for usable sound. This is just shy of the Evo 4’s 60dB of supplied gain and to get a usable sound for Discord and good recording levels for my podcast, the Evo 4 needs the gain to be to be cranked up to the max. This is also how the Evo 4 sets the gain if I use the auto gain function with this specific microphone. Not ideal, but not a deal breaker as adding an in-line mic booster (I went for the Klark Technik CT1 – +25dB of gain for 40) has given me enough headroom to turn my mic up during my streams and gaming sessions as necessary.

As for output sound, pairing this with a pair of DT770s (80ohm) has suddenly given me the ability to hear colours. I’m unstoppable in Halo Infinite, I can hear enemy Spartans breathing from across the map. But in all seriousness, I don’t know if this will make footsteps easier to hear for you, but as for general improvement and offering a more rich, immersive and higher quality of sound, I really can’t complain for the price. It’s actually quite impressive.

I will say, however, that if you are looking for live sound processing such as adding a noise gate or limiter to your voice or general EQing to make yourself sound better on stream or in your gaming session, it is not possible with this device / supplied Evo 4 software. Bear in mind, that the primary function of the Evo 4 is for recording and as such, Audient have assumed that you will add those effects in post production.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI purchased this for gaming and to improve the audio quality of my mic and output from the game. Coming from a background who use to mix music, everything I needed to plug in makes sense and it is plug and play. Lots of videos online explaining what a DAC (Digital Analog Converter) is, its function, and also guides online about how to use this product, overall I am satisfied with this purchase.

The only complain I have is the delivery time. By amazon’s standard, this took forever to arrive. Took almost 1 week, with PRIME membership.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought this to replace a Focusrite Scarlett Solo. This works well and as intended. Producing clear sound and my mic works well with it. Only bothersome part is it isn’t always recognized when the PC wakes up from being asleep. I have to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in. Also – would be nice as a product improvement if the LEDs weren’t quite so bright or dimmable, and the box shape on top of desk isn’t ideal for seeing the LED display for levels. A triangle type shape where the dial faces the user would be nice.

Got this for recording guitar and vocals to my ipad pro. I don’t like how it doesn’t remember my settings when it’s plugged in, this bit is just off putting and annoying. Other than that the audio is relatively decent in quality and it is capable.

Bought this to replace my longstanding digital interface that annoyingly is no longer supported by the Apple operating system. I wanted the ability to use it in my home studio and also with an iPad. I found it quite a good interface but with some limitations. I have tested it with a number of different microphones including an Electrovoice RE20 and RE50, an Audio Technica ATM 31a, and even a Coles lip mic. What I found is that the preamps are very clean and quite good. The downside is that the ‘Smart Gain’ function will not work with every microphone so you will have to set it manually (not a great problem).

A final thought that might help. If you are using something like an Electrovoice RE20, or a Shure SM7B which don’t run on phantom power, you may find it very quiet using the EVO 4. You can boost the levels in post, but that can be a problem if for example, you are podcasting live. Therefore you may need to add something like a Cloudlifter or similar to boost the levels. Incidentally, you don’t need to use a Cloudlifter. They are good but overly pricey. There are many other perfectly good cheap alternatives. I am currently using a Klark Teknik Mic Booster CT1, which is much cheaper but equally good. Hope that helps…

This unit is great; sound quality is phenomenal and for the price; there’s little competition that offers the same features & outputs. It will take a little bit of learning and getting used to the controls as it’s not like your standard interface. Once you get the hang of it it’s really not that bad. My only gruntle with this thing is that there’s no dedicated hot switch for muting the mic. You have to hold the input button for 2-3 seconds for the mute to take effect which is slightly inconvenient if you are using this unit for voice chat. Overall though, this thing is a beast and makes a great desktop addition.

I am impressed by the clean pre amps found here. The unit is minimalistic in all aspects but really easy to use if you have some experience. Mind you I bought this as my portable set up interface and I do have a much larger Apogee in my studio and I can say in terms of sound quality this little unit is not too far behind. It gets the job done and provides all the sound qualities a professional set up requires. Only little drawback is the plastic construction although I must point seems sturdy enough but I would prefer metal enclosure. The autogain feature provides help in some instances but in my experience so far it is not usable for every application and requires, when used, mixing treatment and mastering to optimize the final levels. That being said it helps in the gain staging process. The unit is an excellent buy if you are careful with your gear, if you are a bit rough then I would suggest to get something built with metal enclosure.

Was considering the Elagato Wave XLR as it has a mute button, and excellent reviews, but it only works on Windows 10. This has two input channels, which I thought was a bit over engineering for single microphone usage. Not planning on joining a Zoom meeting in stereo, which is the only use I have for it. I run my output through my PC to a BOSE speaker, have not tested the headphone or audio out channels.
Easy to set up, Windows 7 recognized it immediately, and the Smart Gain feature is awesome. Labeled channel one as RODE, and channel two as SM7 (Shure).
Build is a little cheesy, see Julian Krause’s review on Youtube – he takes the lid off and pokes around inside. Many competing interfaces are (or appear to be), solid metal such as the Focusrite series.
Why it’s better to have two input channels for a single microphone:
If I’m using the RODE Podcaster on channel one, I simply select channel two, and it’s muted!! This allows for sound testing before a meeting, selecting the other channel, and not worrying about saying something inappropriate into a hot mic. A career saver. You will thank me later.
Only draw back I have after a month of service, is extracting the cable from either port. Seems very difficult to get out. Maybe I’m doing it wrong. The cable on the other end easily pops out of the Rode or the Shure.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersIm Grunde genommen ein Spitzenprodukt mit ausgezeichnetem Preis-Leistungsverhltnis.

Thumbs-up !

Really good value. Lots of features and really nice output. The voice feedback feature is great.

Might something like need a cloud lifter for some mics though, as even on max volume it’s not loud enough. + there’s no headroom (Using a Rode Podmic)

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersEin sehr gutes Audio Interface mit einer guten Sound Qualitt.

Key things that got me into getting this interface; the minimalist look of it, the one, single knob, and more importantly, the Smartgain feature. I’m a minimalist type of guy, so seeing this is a beauty to me. The single knob is great since it’s at the top; Focusrite’s Solo interface has it on the side. No problem with that, I just prefer it to be visible immediately. The meter around it helps too, as it shows how loud a selected sound source sounds. And my all time favorite feature on this is, of course, its Smartgain feature. I ALWAYS dreaded sound checking an artist due to being doubtful of myself and thinking I’m either setting the gain too low or too loud. This feature does an excellent job at setting the gain at a healthy level while not setting it too low; basically, it gives you more than enough headroom to work with what you record at. It makes setting up for a session easy! Oh, I also forgot to mention that the mic inputs are in the back, as opposed to the front. I love that part as the Solo controls would always be facing my direction, meaning the cable would facing me and making a U-turn. Sound seems to be a bit better than the Solo, too. Either that or this interface doesn’t pick up “clashing” sounds when I’m mixing music. I can’t say for sure, but for recording purposes, this interface is better than the Solo. Can’t wait for Audient to come out with a carrying case for it as I am a travelling engineer. 😉

Editing after my first session with it: made getting the levels right easier. Can’t wait to go far and beyond with this.

Switched From Focusrite Solo To This

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI switched from the Scarlett 2i2 (first gen). This device does exactly what I need. Good sound quality, can drive my 250 ohms headphones with a high enough sound for my needs.

I can activate 48v phantom power to individual inputs and being able to adjust monitoring volume is fantastic. The design of the device is beautiful and I like the volume LED, not too bright and useful.

I haven’t tried instrument input or smart gains. I generally prefer adjusting gain myself. I also haven’t tried monitor output speakers.

I had some problem using it on ArchLinux, there was no way to turn off the loopback. I’m using When I plugged it in my apple device I was able to update the firmware and turn off the loopback. Now I’m using it on linux with pipewire and jack. Without that little issue, it worked out of the box

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersPrima cosa che voglio puntualizzare: Assolutamente silenziosa.

Audiokabel sondern ber USB. Dort bekommt das Interface auch seinen Strom her. Also kein extra Netzteil.

Cubase LE, Wall of Sound (VST-Plugin) und so weiter.
Anmerkung: Es gibt wirklich gute DAW’s fr umsonst.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersUse case: Main PC audio interface: gaming, music, movies, comms, screencasting.

    Pros
    – Nice clean mic preamps (tested with condenser +48v and dynamic mics).
    – Software is being updated and added. Evo control is great.
    – Digital volume control let’s us control the same volume knob with the OS media controls and viceversa. HUGE advantage from this digital interface over analogs.
    – Headphone amp is pretty decent: tested with medium and low impedance headphones and it worked perfectly.
    – Doesn’t heat up after constant use.
    – Clean audio all over. I used to have some an intermittent static hizz running through my equipment when I connected my devices directly to the computer. Mainly because of not having a grounded electric grid here where I currently live. With the interface I get no hizz at all which is a godsend.

    Cons
    – It’s so lightweight that it turns over backwards when applying little pressure to the top side of the knob (cables weight are pulling it backwards)
    – Only 1 output at a time, speakers or headphone. It would’ve been perfect if an extra button was included, even if it’s only on the EVO control (software). As a gamer we usually go for speakers for casual gaming and leisure but for competitive gaming have to put on the headphones to be able to hear footsteps. Having to connect the headphones to do go back and forth is a huge hassle. PC users need a reliable audio alternative, we are used to realtek’s constant driver problems and I know many would pay to get rid of it. I’d recommend this product to my friends if it had this particular feature.
    – Gain is too low on some dynamic mics (behringer XM8500).

    Recommendations
    – For mic input select the mono (1-channel) input as your operating systems input. (Mic | Line | Instrument)
    – The loopback feature is great in case you need the audio you output through the interface to come back as a separate input channel. You’ll need a DAW to monitor it though.

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersI am typically a Focusrite customer since that is what I always purchased for the last 7 years or so.

I did not need a new interface, but I wanted to give another brand a try. I watched a few videos on youtube and this one reviewer actually ran tests on the device and provided results on response curves and for the money, this thing showed a very flat response.

It get’s 4 stars for the cheap plastic housing (no screws, just squeeze and open)

I have had this thing for a few days and I observe the following pros:

    * great value – SOUNDS INCREDIBLE
    * compact and all black look matches my desk perfectly
    * dual XLR inputs with stereo linked gains
    * balanced TRS outs
    * auto gain (thought this would be gimmicky but I love it)
    * digital controls can be controlled through PC
    * software seems to work great in win10

    These are the following cons:

    * plastic housing (has internal plating for EMI/EFI protection) but feels a tad bit cheaper then it actually is
    * Sometimes needs full PC reboot when loses connectivity (explained below)

The issue with windows and the unit disconnecting has nothing to do with normal operation but when coming back to operate after the PC or even the displays have gone into hibernation. This is more likely a windows issue and I think I solved it by un-checking the box allows others to take control of the device and by disabling all other sound devices like HDMI devices. You can also disable all sleeping and display auto-off options to avoid the issue, or shut down the system normally after done using it but before the displays sleep.

My focusrite and my Berrihnger have the audio swap problem on display sleep, but those can recover after redirecting sound back to the device. I would think the would be way for Audient to add this function to their driver as well for sleep/hibernation survivability.

UPDATE: After working with the Evo 4 support, it appears as though my windows 10 “power profile” was allowing for the USB port to be “suspended” and after changing profiles, as well as going into device manager and unchecking the box to allow windows to reduce power of the Evo 4, and no more disconnects.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve had quite a few interfaces over the years but needed something quick for a new project, which was reasonably priced and had 2 inputs. I’m normally disappointed with anything audio related where I’ve gone for the more budget option, but with the Evo 4 I was pleasantly surprised. It was easy to set up and I like the way the unit operates. I like the central wheel who’s operation is set by the button which precedes it, it is intuitive to use.

Sound wise it is very good. It’s hard to rate mic pre amps, but you notice when they are not great. I had digital multitrackers where they were sub par and also interfaces, but the Evo 4 seems to have plenty of clean gain and works with a variety of mics (I have mainly used an SM57 and LDC so far). Also, unlike other interfaces I’ve had, there are no earth loops, buzzes or interference, just a clean sound. I’ve recorded vocals and loud harmonica and guitars, certainly high volume is not a problem with a mic which can handle the SPL’s. So although it’s probably aimed mainly at content creators etc, it has no issue in the studio.

Based on the price I can’t give anything but 5 starts so far. It is of lightweight construction, I would prefer it if it was metal, but I’ve no reason it won’t hold up. The headphone amp is more suited to lower impedance phones if you are dealing with loud sources and want headroom in the cans. I tried it with DT770 80 ohms and it was okay, but changed to 32ohm cans to give me a bit more headroom. That said 80 ohm would be fine for solo acoustic or content creation. Just something to be mindful of. All in all a great value little unit, I wanted to get the ID14 but budget meant I went for the Evo and I have no regrets.

It is early days but this little box has sounded great through my headphones right from the first playback. My first trial recordings sound great too – the Evo preamps are as good as transparent to my ears. With the Audient heritage, priority has been given to the recording and playback quality – as it should be. For the quality of i/o circuitry I can live with the plastic box (it is shielded internally; check out the online reviews), given the exceptional price.

The whole package is, in my opinion, really well thought out. Not everyone will like the button-+-knob way of setting values but I have found it soon becomes second nature. As an alternative there is the Evo software which is simple but adequate. The software includes green-amber-red input-level metering that some might prefer.

In summary the Evo 4 is a superb sounding USB interface. I think that it is a really clever design that makes good use of digital technology to keep the unit price down without sacrificing quality.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBeen using this for 3 months or so, initially had some issues connecting it but have since upgraded my PC and it worked flawlessly with the new one so maybe some old usb ports on my other pc werent up to much.
Everything about this feels so well put together, sound quality is first class. The controls are easy to use, really like the big control knob.
If there was any negatives, is that the headphones cut the monitors feed. Would be nice to have an option to disable that. And an slighly angled top wouldve been nice, you generally put audio interfaces towards the back of the desk and it wouldve made it easier to see the controls. Apart from that cannot fault it.

    – No dB labels on the case near the LEDs [see screenshot attached of some video I watched on YouTube]
    – You need to be looking down on it to see all the lights – and you cannot put it on it’s side if you are using the headphone or instrument jacks
+ I never thought I would use the “auto-input-level” toy, but it has made life SO much easier!
+ It has loopback for streaming (ie. mixing ‘game’ noises with ‘commentary’)
+ It has an instrument input for musos (overlaid on input #1)
    + Independent phantom power
+ The latency is low enough to use my PC for live effects (reverb, etc.) [*IF* you use the official drivers]
+ You can pair the two channels for stereo in/out if you wish.
+ Full support for both balanced and unbalanced inputs and outputs!
+ Auto-mutes the monitors when you plug in headphones
    – There is no way to override the headphone auto-mute feature
    – It can be a bit fiddly to press the buttons in the right order when pairing channels or selecting what the rotary encoder (volume knob) controls.
    – You cannot turn off the LEDs while it is connected to a PC
    – No MIDI …Do you need MIDI? Consider a MOTU-M4
+ The noise floor is *amazingly* low
    – Struggles to drive my DT770/80’s with any great volume – especially when mixing between PC and Inputs – but I have lost a LOT of hearing over the years :/ …Kids, invest a tenner in some Etymotics BEFORE you get tinnitus and start to go deaf :,(

If your budget is 100 – I suggest you stop looking …If you have 200 in your budget, consider the MOTU-M4, it upgrades to: MIDI (5pin DIN); better physical layout; mutliple ‘knobs’ for easier adjustments; a nice OLED display; 4 inputs; and other technical stuff you can find in YouTube videos by the likes of Julian Krause.

I only bought the evo 4 while waiting for MOTU, who are are having problems shipping kit to the UK at the moment [Spring 2020] …And I really don’t think I could have made a better choice 🙂 …Why only 4*? See the “-” points above!

Ideal first device for streaming AND home recording!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersEdited: I am leaving my original review intact, but I will say that after working with support and talking to many people trying to fix my issue, the interface has been working without any problems for the past week. Still does everything I need and more, and I’ve figured out some more of the quirks in order to use it the way I want.

My only issue with it currently is it’s stability. Having it plugged in with just a microphone, instrument, and output monitors, it leans to one side pretty badly. Unless I plug in headphones and force it to, it will be unbalanced.

Replaced an M-Audio 2×2 with this audio interface, and have been disappointed to say the least. The interface completely disconnects randomly, anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours in-between. Following tech support on their website has done nothing to help. When it works, it sounds great and I love all of its features. The smart gain works great, and individually setting the gain is very simple. Setting the pan from monitor to USB output is also as easy as pressing the button and adjusting to your needs.

There are some annoying features that can’t be turned off, though, like the instrument line on the front muting the mic lines in the back. I’m not sure why it would be like that out of the box, and I haven’t figured out how to turn it off. Another thing is the headphone jack muting the monitor outputs when it’s in-use. I’ve had use cases where I want to use both, and cheaper audio interfaces have had this capability so I’m not sure why this one foregoes it.

Everything it does when it’s working, it does properly. That being said, it doesn’t work very consistently. As someone who’s used to interfaces with more capabilities and reliability in a similar price range though, this is very much a disappointment.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis was so simple to use – really straight forward – I plugged it in – followed the instructions and voila I had recorded a noiseless riff or two from my bass guitar in the first few minutes.

    Definitely recommended!
