Good camera, good UI, terrible remote- keeps unpairing
Generally works well with Messenger and WhatsApp. works very well with voice commands. However, after some time it no longer recognises the remote. Have to power the unit off at the mains, power back on, wait for the unit to detect that a remote isn’t connected and then go through a 3-4 minute process to re-pair the remote. Quite frustrating given the frequency with which this happens. Wish they’d update/fix this bug
Best for WhatsApp calls
What a brilliant product for WhatsApp calls. Nothing better than having all your loved ones on one big screen, sound and picture quality is unbelievably amazing. Don’t put it on top of your TV though as the mount is not good enough, best putting it under the TV and it works perfectly.

I had never heard of this – I chanced upon it. As I was about to become a Granddad and my daughter lives 50 miles away, I bought us one each. Absolutely brilliant ! We can have a meeting on our large TV’s, superb quality, nothing to hold (like a laptop or tablet in front of your face). It’s interactive and immediate. Quality is excellent and it has so much intelligence built in – it automatically zooms in and out to capture all the faces in the shot. If there’s one person and they move towards the camera, it zooms in. Honestly, it’s amazing technology for the price, fantastic value.
Nice idea
I bought this as it a great idea and is great on the big screen but we have gone back to Skype as it doesn’t work on a tablet without a SIM card. Our family in Australia are fed up having to hold a mobile phone for the duration of our calls. So the portal is largely redunda

Takes a while to update at first, and doesn’t come with an hdmi cable, but otherwise good when bought at offer price.
Quality brings a new meaning to zoom etc
Great product, excellent for reaching family, friends and colleagues all over the world. Superb system a little pricey but is worth it.
Good device
it is nice device but i think it would be handy if there will be easy fast way to freeze the frame as sometimes flying camera is annoying or even way to set default frame as favourites let say that I would like to have my couch fully visible every time I start video chat without changing this every time

Not really for people aged 95
Bought for 95 year old mom in a care home. Mom said she wouldn’t be able to remember what to do. May need to be for a more confident person.
TV Camera
Device works perfect with the TV. Only fault i found with the key pad getting only English letters.
i kept getting international letters which were not excepted by password identify.
Great way to connect to remote parents
Works really well as intended. Some might say a tablet can do the same, but for ease of use for my 60plus yr old parents, they appreciate the simplicity. This is also a lot cheaper than an ipad!
The video calling works super well. Really clear images that are sharper and smoother when WhatsApp calling or using Facebook messenger compared to my mum’s old phone. Needless to say she likes the large screen vs her phone.
A really big plus of this go model is that you’re not tethered to a power cable. Plus I don’t get the terrible angles my mum would hold her phone at, now she can put the portal down and the wide angle camera and auto zooming sorts the view all out so we can focus on what’s going on.
A side benefit is fantastic speakers. My mum uses this for her youtube and treats it like her boombox in the garden or down the community centre!
Finally the picture album mode isn’t advertised much on the go, but it’s there and will share Facebook albums. Fantastic again for various members of our family to submit photos to that album and for my mum to get them automatically.
Slight downside was a slightly faffy set up, luckily my sister was there to help mum, but a large part of that was because mum’s abroad in a non Facebook supported country (HK). Great that Amazon delivered to HK direct and overall worked out cheaper! (Presumably something to do with tax)
All in all, very happy.
Chatting across cyberspace
Bought one for myself in UK and another for family in NZ. Easy to set up and link to smart TV, though didn’t work with older (10+ years) flat screen TV. Initial set up takes about 30 minutes, mainly due to software updates for both portal and controller. However, once your Messenger and WhatsApp contacts are uploaded, calling them is simple and can be done by voice commands. Quality of the picture is superb as is sound through TV speakers or soundbar, with excellent synchronisation. There is a minimal timelag, even over 12,000 miles, and it feels almost as if we are sitting in the same room. Caller can also use phone or tablet, which is necessary when away from home or wandering about, though video quality is likely to be diminished.
Love have bought 3 altogether for the family
Camera follows you so easy to use for my elderly family and they have said they feel like Weare in the room… One of them was recently widowed
Bringing Family Close
I have had doubts as to whether it would be good or not. Yet, as per usual I’m outstandingly surprised and the quality of the camera and the camera body. Sturdy, sits perfectly on top of the tv extremely easy to connect. I do advise to get a HIGH SPEED HDMI cable. better quality image and sound. the Microphone is amazing, it takes away surrounding noises and yet amplifies voices. My family is in the UK and I live in the Canary Islands. I wish I had bought it earlier on during the Pandemic. Recommended Buy 10/10
Brilliant idea
Bought for my mum who is deaf. Easy to install and then mum can use volume control on tv to hear and see the grand kids.

Found it worked better on the mantle Piece. Good Picture from N.Ireland . Picks up my WIFI Ok inspite of the Poor signal Strength . Glad I noticed it at special price. No complaints

Need to purchase a separate HDMI cable which is surprising considering the price.
My second Portal TV purchase. Not sure whether having any of the other portals is of any value as you could do a video chat on a smart phone or a tablet. This works great and now all my family have one. You can have video chats via WhatsApp, Messenger (both of which I’ve used) and a couple of other media apps such as Zoom. Need good broadband speed to get good quality video – especially when contacting the other side of the world. Audio reception is very good from built in microphones. Seems a good quality product – a solid build. I would give 5 stars if it came with an HDMI cable and had a few more streaming apps.

I found the initial set up quite challenging until a friend stepped in to help and I linked to my family through beta. Now it’s just great. I don’t have photos loaded onto it as I find, when not in use, the simple black frame and preloaded images keep the portal unintrusive. That said my photos are on Google Drive which isn’t supported by portal – if this is an important feature for you do check you will be able to use it. Some of family have a portal, others don’t but that doesn’t mean I can’t use it when videocalling on WhatsApp or Messanger. You don’t get a full screen image on WhatsApp but you do get to call hands free and in comfort!

Liked it so much we bought several for family and friends
With the prospect of not being able to see family and friends over Christmas we bought this to make it easier to unwrap pressies and see a large screen. Liked it so much we bought several for all our close family and friends. Much better than talking on s small screen and no more heads being cut off! We have a 65 inch tv so its like those you are talking to are in the room with you. The follow feature is great as it means you can walk around and the camera will follow you.
Easy to set up if you know your passwords for facebook etc.
Easy to turn camera and mic off when not in use.

It will make video calling very easy in the future, plus you can close off the lens and mute the microphone so that it is secured privately. It works well with WhatsApp, which is a major plus.

Not what I was expecting.
A neat little gadget which sits on top of tv.
Arrived next day well packaged.
Didn’t take long to set up , about 20mins but one I got it working I wasn’t all that impressed.
I like to play radio through my echo dot so I was pleased when I read that it had Alexa built in , however when asked it to play music the tv screen has to be on so it then began screening all the photos in my folder. This was ok at first but after a couple of days I was getting bored looking at them . I couldn’t find any way of just having a blank screen and playing music through Alexa and it is very distracting when listening to music and the tv screen is on in front of you.
Before the best way to video call
I have been wanting to try this out for quite some time, but couldn’t justify the 150 for it. After finally seeing it on a huge discount, I bot the bullet.
I have family in Japan and a niece I have not yet met due to covid. And I always feel awful that during any celebration, my brother just gets passed along the family members on a tablet.
This year though, he was able to see everyone at Christmas and feel a part of the day. All my family members love it and especially my two toddlers.
I honestly think anyone deciding whether or not to get one…. DO IT. You will not be disappointed. Its absolutely amazing and so easy to use.
Everyone that has received a call from us has commented on how good the video quality is from their side too.

Great for relatives abroad
Really easy to set-up and use. Bought so that grandparents in Spain can keep up with a new grandchild. Good picture and audio and does follow the ‘action’ in the room well. Bought at lower ‘sale’ price and really pleased.

Distanced family connecto
Between my dislike of Facebook and some of the negative reviews on here, I was slightly putoff buying this product. We normally use our Show 8’s for family video calls, but the screen size is not great. Anyway, being a Yorkshireman (Short arms and deep pockets) the current price reduction caught my attention (54), so I bought one.
When mounted on a 60″ TV the quality of the calling experience is great and I love the way the camera appears to follow you around the room, zooming in and out as required. You can also video call with WhatsApp, Messenger, and Zoom so plenty of choices. I liked it so much, that I bought 2 more for my family. If you can’t visit then this is the next best thing.

Highly recommend the portal tv. Great for calling family and friends and literally feels like they are in the same room. We love using it and it makes calling family so much easier than all huddling round the phone.
