Good camera, good UI, terrible remote- keeps unpairing
Generally works well with Messenger and WhatsApp. works very well with voice commands. However, after some time it no longer recognises the remote. Have to power the unit off at the mains, power back on, wait for the unit to detect that a remote isn’t connected and then go through a 3-4 minute process to re-pair the remote. Quite frustrating given the frequency with which this happens. Wish they’d update/fix this bug
Great for high quality WhatsApp calls for Mum!
I bought this for the WhatsApp functionality. My Mum uses WhatsApp a lot to keep in touch with her sons. This one lets her have high-quality video calls on a nice big screen that she can carry around to wherever she wants to do calls. It’s easy enough to use and, if you don’t want to use the Facebook integration, you don’t have to use it. It seems like it may be possible to use this as a photo frame when it’s not in use – but I haven’t managed to make that work – yet!

I bought this for my 84-year father who is not tech-savvy. I needed to create an FB account, activate Messenger along with Spotify and Whats App. I needed to buy a phone as well to serve as a device that you could create these accounts on. This device was not easy to set up and should have been better as a standalone communication hub. Alexa does not work as expected and you have to use “hey portal” as a term to initiate instructions. The voice recognition does not operate well even when using clear UK English properly enunciated. It has successfully connected my dad with family in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Fiji and different parts of the UK via video call. Would suit a better level of tech knowledge to set up.

Cant get a straight answer from Facebook about whether a WhatsApp account is all you ned or whether you need to have an FB account too. Annoying how it also offers Messenger as well as a way of connecting, the is just confusing!

My brother bought this about at year ago I could not justify the cost but when the price dropped to 54 I purchased one so did my son and daughter also bought one great produc
Works out of the box
Easy to set up and worked out of the box despite very minimal paperwork with the device. Needed to go online to find out what different features were available. Portal.facebook/gb/help/using-portal gave a pretty good description. Just a pity info could not have been included in the package (instead of various language version of minimal information!)
Otherwise, very good display and operation (switches the tv on for you!) Recommended.

Family can see what’s happening in the background like other family members playing or the pets running around which they are enjoying. I like the photo frame option a lot and you can also add a picture folder for photos from your phone to show randomly. I don’t use build in Alexa as we have Google home for years and we are so used to ask Google but it does work. Sound is also not bad and can connect to you Spotify.

It will make video calling very easy in the future, plus you can close off the lens and mute the microphone so that it is secured privately. It works well with WhatsApp, which is a major plus.
Excellent Video Quality
Works extremely well with Zoom, Messenger and WhatsApp- they’re the apps we’ve used with it.
Very good wide-angle lens enables the whole family to sit on the couch and be clearly seen and heard. A far better experience than huddling round an iPad or computer monitor. Takes a title time to set up initially but worth the investment of that time.
