FLIR One Android USB-C | Thermal Imaging Camera for Android, 80 x 60 Thermal Resolution (USB-C connector), Neutral
Thermal imaging is one of the most powerful technologies ever developed to enhance human vision beyond what we see with our naked eyes. Human vision is limited to a very narrow ‘visible’ band of the electromagnetic spectrum. Infrared radiation carries radiant heat and with its longer wavelength, cannot be seen by the human eye. Almost everything around us gives off or reflects heat, which can be ‘seen’ by thermal imaging.

MSX TechnologyLike previous FLIR ONE models, the third generation includes both a visible and thermal camera. The magic happens through FLIR’s patented, multispectral dynamic imaging, or MSX technology, which embosses a visible image over a thermal. The end-result is a better, crisper image, which helps improve overall quality and readability when you need it most. With the FLIR ONE, you won’t need to guess, you’ll just know. | Thermal SuperpowersEven in complete darkness, users can visualise small temperature differences through the lens of the FLIR ONE. Whether you’re trying to determine why your room is so cold, why your wall is starting to bubble and turn awful new colours, or just trying to find where your dog is hiding in the backyard, the FLIR ONE will help you see the formerly unseen. | OneFit Adjustable ConnectorAnother advancement we’ve developed with the third generation FLIR ONE is our new OneFit adjustable height-connector. The OneFit allows you to adjust the length of the FLIR ONE connector so it can attach over most phone cases, eliminating the hassle of removing your case prior to use. The new FLIR ONE also features a USB-C version for Android, so whether you want to take a picture of an object or take a thermal selfie (a ‘thermie’), Android users can flip the camera in whichever direction they want. |

Biggest pro: works great, totally satisfied from a functionality point of view.
Biggest con: Battery life leaves a lot to be desired, but at least doesn’t drain the phone.
Despite this.. the concern I still have, which didn’t occur to me til it arrived, is it needs FLIR’s Android app to work. Without that, it’s a 300 paperweight. I wish I’d bought something with some standalone firmware, that I can count on to work even if the App is canned.

Simple to use but slight confusing at first as you have more than one type of image available. Finding hot or cold spots is easy and on screen measurements are very helpful battery life is not brilliant but you can use it plugged in if need long use.

Got this FLIR camera to help with home projects. Have air leaks and wanted to find them to do some home projects. The FLIR ONE Gen 3 – Android (USB-C) is not commercial grade but works well. I was able to identify hot and cold pipes through drywall. It also was able to see where drywall was much colder than the rest of the room to identify air leaks behind the wall. Works on windows and fireplace as well. FLIR ONE is a good name brand and the product quality is good. It plugs into the USB-C port of your cell phone or tablet and you download the software from your device’s app store. It also charges with USB-C port and charge lasts months during non-use and multiple hours of use.
It is worth noting the focal distance is not very far. It is for indoor use or close proximity use. Perhaps 15 feet distance to check drywall/windows/doors to determine if cool/hot spots exist and less than 5 feet for detailed pictures to find pipes behind walls or specific air leaks. It is not for night driving, hunting, sporting, etc.
It is both a tool and play thing (if you are a bit of a tech geek) that will get used more than you may originally think.
EDIT: The replacement is even worse, off centre and wonky. Returning for refund. Gutted 🙁
2nd Edit: Flir technical support came back to me again and fixed the issue, not sure why the first chap couldn’t do the same.
Absolutely love what this can do, works mostly well on my Pixel 4a, I can see the hot water pipes in my walls and under my floorboards! Will try with wildlife at some point.
BUT the FLIR One has 2 cameras, one thermal and one digital, allowing it to show a real time outline of what you are looking at. Unfortunately these are not aligned well, they are about a foot out at a distance of 3 metres. I rang Teledyne, they are very helpful but agreed that this needs returning as faulty. The apps are a little flakey too, probably work better if you buy the PRO version.
BUT because I love this so much I have ordered a replacement, fingers crossed it will be better aligned. will update my feedback at a later date when the replacement arrives.

We bought this to evaluate heat loss in our house during Canadian winters. There are quite a few rather more expensive options but not much in this price range. The version we bought was the Lightning connector variant for iPhones. Charging is via USB-C and takes about an hour from empty to full, which curiously enough is about the same amount of time it drains when you’re using it. The higher end model has a better set of cameras than this one, but the results from this lower end model were perfectly good for our needs. It allowed us to locate heat loss areas pretty quickly and confirm whether or not any action was needed (or possible). It’s also nifty to see where hot or cold water pipes run through the house as well as to check to see if any power lines/outlets/fuse boxes are overloaded (if you can see the latter as being warmer than the surrounding area, they are) One think to keep in mind is that the display on the iphone will calibrate based on all the temperatures in range, so in one photo the blue/yellow/red differential may be dramatically wider than in others (3-4 degree range compared to say 18) which means paying attention to the actual temperature points is essential.
Good product and I’m happy we have it.
Works fine – does what I want, but appallingly over packaged. It comes with a nice carry case, but why does it need multiple layers of cardboard, plastic, then more cardboard with built in magnetic fastenings etc?

Either the camera is faulty or I’m well and truly heating the neighborhood and the company that did my cavity insulation 10 years ago did nowt and conned me. ( council contractor).
If the pictures are true, I’m at a total loss of where to start. Need some pro help I think.
Camera was easy to set up and use. Did not have to take case off. When I took pictures indoors could clearly see cold spots. Definitely starting with roof and working my way down. Not used the tools yet and want to see pics on PC but good camera.

Although I had the right android build and right usb connection the FLIR app would not recognise my phone. Ulefone do a rugged version of my phone with a FLIR 1 camera built in,which helps confuse things. It works well on my son’s phone, a Samsung. Battery life is good. FLIR do ask you to try different things but in the end, I’m going for a refund.

I have attached a new video.
As a handy person and electronics enthusiast I’m still very happy to have this camera. I can see things I could not otherwise see and that expands my abilities for maintenance, repairs, and other efforts. Plus the curiosity of seeing that a cold-blooded frog doesn’t show up and other natural science observations are great.
I have used this for:
1. Indoor ceiling to identify poor insulation locations
2. Identify within seconds if an air conditioner is working
3. See the temperature gradient in compost bin
4. See that a frog is in fact cold-blooded
5. Check the circuit breaker panel in the house
6. Look at warm footprints on the carpet
7. Identify wet spots, water evaporates in the 40s
8. Identify lost energy in ceiling light fixtures, wiring, plug adapters, paper shredders on standpipe, audio and video equipment on standby, because if it’s turned off and it shows as warm, it is consuming electricity
9. Inspect heating on electrical circuits for hobbies
[Above added 8/20/2022]
I very much appreciate that the Flir ONE properly orients the app when the phone is held upside down. It is more comfortable to hold the phone upside down.
The occasional auto calibration is a bother, but mostly would be a sticking point for video recording, the camera is just as useful with this auto calibration.
It has estimated the temperature of my hand at 102F or higher without a fever and it has estimated the temperature of frozen food (boxed food) at -2F(seems right) in my freezer side-by-side. I don’t know if I can tune that to be more accurate.
I can see where evaporative cooling is happening, immediately the warm footprints from my dog on the carpet, warm breakers or unused doorbell transformer (wasted electricity), and much more.
This review was written with less than 3 hours of use. Setup was simple.
Sehr schade.
Following a new home purchase, I thought I’d buy the FLIR gen 3 and use my smart phone to make some measurements.
The device is easy to use. Be careful about your measurements though. For example, you will get wrong results if trying to measure the temperature of reflective surfaces (a mirror being the absolute worst case). There is an emissivity option you can tweak though. So, using an emissivity table, you can adjust that through the menu.
“Wired” empirically measured the accuracy to be +-2C (https://www.wired.com/2014/09/testing-accuracy-flir-one/).
On the attached picture, you can see that the hottest spot is at 1.1C. The exterior air temperature at that moment was -9.7C. That is a temperature delta of 10.8 degrees Celsius! Even considering the best error case, that is still an 8.8C temperature delta. I don’t know much about construction, but it seems a lot to me and I’ve reported it. The device allowed me to spot more insulation issues inside around outlets and where it aligns with exterior features such as natural gas outlet and exterior faucet.
Softwares
The softwares, FLIR ONE and FLIR Tools are pretty basic, but allows to generate predefined reports through various templates. There is also a PC program you can install on your computer, which makes it easier to work with the pictures. You need to create an account to get it (FLIR Thermal Studio Suite; free for basic version).
Sorry to say this but after buying this for work for a single video project to see what was going on with a product in IR, this has now become one of my favourite gadgets ever for having fun. Want to see where someone has just walked? No problem? Want to see if a “present” left by a dog or cat in your garden is just laid? No problem? Want to find where your chicken has vanished to (not joking, we used this to find where a chicken was roosting in the hedge, see attached image)? No problem. Want to create fun selfies? No problem. I recommend to any other gadget lover, find whatever excuse you can and get this!
Although the image quality leaves a little to be desired, you can’t expect much from such a cheap product!
Very happy with this.
use this for checking thermals in pc builds plugs in to my phone and works well be aware some settings need top be enabled on the phone for the device to work (need to enable OTG connection every time i use it) been after one for some time and I’m not disappointed with its function or the clarity of the image would recommend to anyone that has a use for it.
I haven’t used a thermal cam for nearly 20 years and have to say the ability to take a regular picture at the same time and automatically overlay them and keep together is awesome haven’t tried the competitors yet.

This thing is amazing but it’s too pricey. Works well with android.
Ersten Warmwasserschaden ohne Ordungsfirma selber przise lockalisiert.
Size, very compact, and good range of temperature.
Good product.
Quality FLIR camera for the price. Does everything I’d expected for a ‘home use’ thermal camera.
It needs to be handled with care as you’d expect for a mobile plug in type camera.
This camera provides good spatial resolution and it is accurate. I compated it to a room thermometer and it was close in value. The battery does burn fairly quickly but for most jobs this thing workd nicely.
Awesome bit of kit.
Had some areas in the house that would never heat up, used this to determine exactly where the heat was escaping.
I have used this so many times now and has a broad range of use from home to automotive and much more.
I was at a point in changing my windows for newer ones, using the flir it pinpointed where and how the cold air was getting in the house and was able to rectify.

I just got this thermal camera and I was really worried it wouldnt work at all. After charging it for an hour, like they say, the power button would flash but the app didnt detect it. I charged it for 3 hours, same thing. Finally, I charged it for 5 hours more, and it started working.
I’m using it on a Samsung S21 and it DID NOT need an OTG adapter, it started working after I plugged it in and fiddled with it a bit.
I have no real way to judge how accurate the imaging is. It shows temperature variants and thats really all I expected.
I liked the fact that the attachment was adjustable for depth of a phone case.
Good product. Value for money. Used on Vivo V20. Working well.
Very simple to use. sturdy case very compact fits into my pocket. A wide range of features I’m still learning about excellent for finding cold spots in a room also been used to check overheating in consumer units.
Great item, already worked out where I have drafts coming in on the front door and the kitchen window, it’s a big outlay but it will pay for its pretty soon by letting me know where I need to seal areas prone to drafts and save on my heating bill.
I have 1 recommendation, look at the picture of my camera in its case, you will see I have cut foam away where the usbc is, this stops you having to retract the USB every time you put it back in the case, also you will see i have removed foam where the switch is, this stops the button being pressed when your putting it back in the case and the battery going flat, I’ve not charged mine for about 3 months and I use it about 2 minutes a day 5 days a week.

Ever buy one of those crappy little $20 drones that you have to charge forever only to be able to use it for like 7 minutes? Well the battery on this thing appears to be similarly lame. First off the directions for this thing absolutely suck and may as well not even exist. They tell you to charge the thing for an hour before using it which seems to imply that it will be fully charged at that point, right? Guess again! I’m still not sure exactly how long it takes to fully charge yet. Another thing is that they don’t really tell you what any of the lights on this thing actually indicate. Sometimes they’re orange, sometimes they’re green. Sometimes they flash in seemingly random rapid bursts (which usually can’t mean anything good is happening) and sometimes they’re solid. They don’t even tell you how you can tell it is fully charged. I’m assuming that happens when the green charging LED finally turns off but I don’t no for sure because they didn’t bother to mention it in the instructions!! Even those crappy little $20 drones tell you that much, albeit in broken English.
Other than that it wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t mention that this thing has pretty good image quality and seems to work well but I’ll probably end up returning it because of my lack of confidence in the battery life and charging method especially after reading all the negative reviews related to how these things fail which is usually battery related. $400 may be relatively cheap for this type of product but that doesn’t make it sting any less if it only ends up working for a few weeks or months.
UPDATE: So, in fairness, it looks like the first device I got may have had a defective battery or something like that. I sent it back to Amazon for replacement and the new one provides more realistic reporting of the remaining battery life and actually charges to 100%. Thank you Amazon!!! Adjusting stars to reflect the improved experience.
The picture quality is grainy and not the best but you can definitely tell what you’re looking at.
I got this infra-red camera as the cheapest option for identification of hot spots on printed circuit boards caused by electrical faults.
For this purpose it works very well as a fault locator and saves time in the repair.
Quality product. Such a handy tool. The camera outline overlay over the warmth map puts everyting ino perspective.
Does what i asked of it and gives ok pictures, but to be honest wished i spent the small extra to have the full pro with 4x the resolutio
I love being able to look in the woods at night and actually see what my dogs are barking at.
Works great, I used it to find all the leaks from my ceiling to my attic so I could seal everything before adding insulation.
Risoluzione fotocamera: 1440×1080 (tutti i modelli)
Risoluzione termocamera: 80×60 (ONE e ONE PRO LT), 160×120 (ONE PRO)
Range misurazione termperatura: -20 / +120 C (ONE e ONE PRO LT), -20 / +400 C (ONE PRO, in due range diversi settabili dall’app).
Il prezzo sale dai 250 E circa (ONE) a 310 E (PRO LT) fino a 450 E (PRO).
CONCLUSIONE
Great product for finding “heat leaks”. Picture quality doesn’t seem as good as others.
Ottimo acquisto
I really like how compact this product is. It was easy to set up using the app and my iPhone. For the price, the image could be a bit clearer but you can definitely see heat disperse in areas to look out for especially for heating pipes as you can see from my house although I already had an incline where these were. I would recommend this product.
Clear image/thermal images are very useful to locate heated wires or heater connections, and perfect for total darkness areas, to search animals or people or even buildings.
Just a brief report. This thing works great. For a homeowner looking at problem areas like insulation, it works great.
I have a Note 8 phone and have had zero issues with this after 2 months. Worth the money as a home inspection would be very expensive each time you want photos.
The fact that you can see an outline of the image on the thermal view, and then swipe down to see the optical image is very useful.
Very easy to use. Works very well.
Thanks for exchanging the IOS version I ordered by mistake. This Android one is great.
Perfect solution for semi professional building and electrical engineering surveys. Also quite useful for dry wall stud location in may cases – the temperature ration between plaster board and stud timbers can be seen.
Great for the price. If you want more detail or better photo consider the upgraded model.
Great little camera. Good to use for spotting hot spots in loads of things. Attached image of my PC before cleaning the fans.
Check phone compatibility, I have OnePlus and I have to turn on Usb OTG every time.
Other than that the product is perfect, will help me as a heating engineer diagnose problems.
Works great. Battery life is longer than expected. Gray color was a little off (slight pink), but that didn’t take away from the products performance.
I had my doubts, but when I received it I was sure it was doing what it is supposed to do! It captures thermal energy in still and video. My most important use for it was to check on heater pluming and live electric wires. Of course, the pipes need to be used first to gather heat, and the wires need to conduct energy before the camera can detect the heat.
Got it, charged it up and started using it in 5 minutes on my pixel 4. Works perfectly. Helped me trace plumbing in my walls (it shows up hot pipes behind walls easily, once they’ve been warm for a little while). You can also trace pipes under the floor in the same way. Leaks look like big puddles! It’s brilliant for checking radiator function, too. When a radiator turns on, the heat should be spread evenly throughout. If you have cold corners then you have problems. This makes it super easy to identify such issues at a glance scientifically. It’s pricey, but for me it’s worth it so I can accurately find and fix plumbing problems that would be much more costly to investigate otherwise.
Really nice, simple and easy to use camera. App is free to download and very streight forward. Produces nice pictures both in true colour and IR
This gadget has helped solve a longstanding issue with out cold kitchen. It really helps to find cold spots. The app is fully featured and easy to use, no issues on a pixel 3a. The battery life is short but plenty for my needs. I probable could have used the lower res lite model the key benefit is *locating* hot/cold spots so resolution does not need to be high.
Works well but the actual image doesnt line up well with the thermal image. Battery life is so so. Bought it to check on the new windows I bought and it found several errors the contractors made in insulating and installing them.
Personally I would go for a proper handheld unit that has better resolution, longer battery life and same price. However for a quick plug in for quick 10 minute jobs this does well.
The extensible USB C connector is supported to compensate for most phone protective cases, but this one does not. I to get a USB C extension to use with my Otter case.
Image is great.
It’s brilliant. I’m gas/heating installer. I wondered about going nextmodel up… Glad I didn’t. This is sturdy and comes with a case.
It’s not very good near highly reflective surfaces but that is minor.
I like that it was able to pick up what I wanted to see. However the quality to not always match
I have to say I was a but sceptical about a plug in device for a mobile and I did a fair bit of research into the different models and brands.
Figured I’d go with the FLIR brand as it’s recognised and the image quality seemed to be better.
Overall, it’s a great bit of kit. The original interface is easier to use than the beta one that automatically loads up with the app but this can be switched back quite simply.
It’s really easy to set up and start using as well.
Really useful for Inspections and it has helped me identify defects that I wouldn’t have been able to see without it.
I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking into getting one.
facile, d’utilisation, a rend plutot bien.
This is a handy little gadget! It’s surprisingly useful to be able to see heat when diagnosing electrical issues, engine misfires, or just curious about the circulation in my hand, haha.
My only issue is battery life, mine only lasts 15-20 minutes.
Absolutely incredible piece of kit. We needed to work out why out underfloor heating wasn’t working as two plumbing companies had let us down. Without this equipment we probably would have had to rip up a brand new floor. Easy to setup and use and amazing results. Really impressed that you can slide a picture to show the original overlaying the heat map image.
Amazing bit of kit, for the price, whether playing or trouble shooting heating or insulation or electronics. But wow the battery is utter pants. Essentially single use per charge, and never retains power between uses.
Very cool, helping me find where im losing mh heat!
Good points
small, fits different phones with case.
Useful for electronic fault finding with a smaller phone. I use an A3.
Quite cheap.
Bad points

Battery only lasts about an hour and seems to discharge when switched off so have to charge it before each use.
Had a bit of a problem at first due to having the wrong app , after a chat with tec department it was quickly resolved.
The FLIR ONE PRO LT for IOS has got to be one of my best investments. It has saved time and money in both looking for problem spots as far as insulating is concerned and for looking for a leak on one of my central heating pipes, I have used it over and over and helped out friends with this little gem. It is brutal as far as the battery is concerned, so you have a limited amount of time to get what you need done and the charge rate is slow, so I recommend you look into how to operate it for the use you require it for, before you charge around looking at everything from the family cat to looking at walls bemused why it all looks yellow, it is crucial that you go to the website and learn how to use this but once you the hang of looking at the temperature differential, you will easily be able to find leaks, spot wiring problems and fix drafty roofs and doors.
After reviewing the many “gun” type infra red cameras with their high prices and tiny screens, I decided to buy the standard (not Pro) Flir for Android unit. I had read of incompatibilities with my oneplus 6 phone but decided to risk it.
The unit arrived incredibly promptly (I live in Jersey where Amazon prime has historically not been great). I followed instructions and initially my phone did not detect the unit. A quick glance at Flir’s help site suggested ensuring OTG is enabled (in phone’s system settings) and it worked perfectly immediately. I then explored my house with the heating on in order to map the underfloor pipes. After allowing the heating to run for an hour, all the pipes could be seen highlighted on my phone’s large screen. The subtle blending of visual and infra red images really helped and using it after switching off all the lights (at night) gave another helpful perspective. This is not a device for producing pin sharp hi res photos in the infra red spectrum, but the images (and videos!) give enough detail to identify pipes and other objects quite clearly. Video is very helpful in orientating oneself in the house as it can be hard to tell exactly where individual images were taken, without taking notes, after the event.
The instructions should make it clearer that the unit charges it’s internal battery from a separate (not supplied) charger, NOT from the phone.
Very pleased with the unit which is well made and can have so many uses looking for hot spots. Even photographing cats in the dark is fun!

Have used FLIR devices for several years, for the size, and price this is extremely efficient. Already used to spot wildlife at reasonable distances. Possible vetinary applications to be explored.
I wanted this to find cold spots in my house, it has worked well. It was expensive but then again much cheaper than many other thermal imagers
Has own power supply so you need to turn it ON when you plug it in and wait a few seconds for an image to come onto the screen. Be patient. Refresh rate seems slow but that’s the case with all thermal cameras costing less than 20,000! Image quality and ease of use make this a great bit of kit. It is essentially the same sensor and features as the FLIR E6 which is a 2000 camera. Make sure you download the FLIR ONE app and the FLIR Tools app. The latter does some post processing and let’s you generate a range of different PDF reports that you can email straight from the app!!! The attached image is showing rainwater penetration through the outside wall of a Victorian house (defective rainwater pipe). Brilliant for building diagnostics.
So far I am very impressed with this product. I did my research before as it was an expensive purchase and I am glad I went with this one. I have used other thermal cameras in the past and have not been impressed but the quality of the images on this unit is very impressive. I think the stand out feature is the face it blends a actual picture with a thermal image so you keep the importance information like labeling on a fuse board. I am impressed by the accuracy of the temperature and the fact you can make changes to the image after the photo has been taken allowing you today choose the best colour setting or move the temperature point.
It’s expensive bit of kit but when you compare it to the equivalent spec camera it’s actually quite cheap. For this kind of price you wouldn’t be getting very good images.
I have highy expect this will be getting lots of uses at work been an electrician both diagnosis of faults and when doing electrical safety checks and will make use stand out from the others not using this technology.
Also a nice added point is the USB c connection is extendable so it fits on even with my large case something I was concerned about before purchasing.
Excellent service .
Brilliant camera for thermal imaging .
Mobile app is excellent and simple to use .
Very pleased with acquisition , not cheap but very recommendable for the job at hand .
Lots of detail .
Our main likes and dislikes were:
1. The Flir camera: we thought it was a fantastic and compact little tool if you don’t need much resolution for the job to hand.
2. The Flir app. Not much in the way of instructions, and although the hardware is hardy, plug in and play . . . very straightforward, we would have benefitted from a Quickstart guide that covered how to get the most out of the camera screen. Most people would be able to work it out as there is a Help guide on the app: we didn’t bother because Flir’s resolution wasn’t fit for our purposes. There is a torch/flash on the Flir app. When we were downloading the Flir app (which had a 1star rating), we also downloaded a couple of other compatible apps that had 4-5star ratings that were also advertised on the Flir app. We gave ourselves 2 minutes per app to figure them out and couldn’t do it: they may be out of date.
3. How it works with an iPhone. So the camera can be attached to the phone to face either direction which is great. We had to remove the case for it to fit our iPhone . . . and the phone felt VERY vulnerable in the locations we wanted to use it. Obviously you could buy a new phone case that is compatible with Flir. The other thing was that photos taken using the Flir camera button did not capture ALL the information (e.g. the temperature gradient) on the screen at the time so we ended up doing screen shots using the iPhone home and on/off button. This was actually quite tricky as you had to make sure your hand did not block the Flir, or that you didn’t click the phone into the lock screen (happened a lot). The Flir itself is robust: we wouldn’t recommend changing how it attaches to the iPhone.
Despite the issues, we were impressed with the fact that you could do this kind of thing with a mere phone. Maybe a future version with more resolution would suit us: at the moment though, we have decided to splurge on a full handheld unit with a higher resolution.
In the end we decided to splurge a bit more on a more powerful non-phone version and so sent this for refund.
I have the iOS version of the FLIR One Pro. It works well as does the software. Please ensure you read reviews for the product you are interested in buying – I think the iOS version is stable and offers lots of neat functionality.
There’s not enough info with the unit though. Initial registration was straightforward and didn’t feel like the bind other users report. I plugged the One in to charge. The charge light glued green when fully charged, flashes before that.
I liked that FLIR Tools now has a version on iOS, so I don’t need to transfer images to my PC before analysis. Great to analyse afterwards to discern temperature. So far I haven’t found out how to lock the scale – on some of my pics, the scene looks like there’s lots of variability (lots of colour) but in fact there are only 1 or 2 degrees between specific spots. Sometimes it would be better to have only the big changes shown.
But overall a great product. So glad I read the iOS reviews before buying this – I had considered I’d need to get a C3, have saved 200 by not needing to do that!
Was solls.
