Brilliant until the final episode
A wonderful tale of love,passion and intrigue spoiled only by the almost dead stop in the final episode which left me stunned at such a depressing end to such a rich and powerful story.The army outside for the last battle was barely adequate to storm Tesco’s for a discount day let alone defeat anything else.An embarrassingly uncaring conclusion to an otherwise outstanding series.
Replacement (Previous Wouldn't Play Series 3 Episodes 9/10) Now Cracked Cases Check Discs
The series itself is fantastic, at least as far as to series 3 episode 8! – We had to discontinue watching and request a replacement as the previous boxset had disc errors from series 3, disc 5, episodes 9/10 and there after.
My experience of Amazon has always been that of no issue with a replacement/exchange but on this occasion it was unfortunate that the exact boxset we first ordered 1-7 was not available and therefore had to replace with boxset 1-8 and therefore had to pay an extra 16 ( which seems unfair as we already have a copy of series 8 available to us).
This replacement arrived late yesterday and I was not pleased to find that the cases are cracked and broken -I had seen the reviews that warned of this but accidents can and do happen was my thinking, it is indeed strange that Amazons packaging was adequate and that as these are shrink wrapped, I fail to see of any way other than at manufacturer stage- could they end up in such a state.
After having much trouble with disc errors with Marvel Phase 1 boxset ( 3 replacements and always same errors or worse always within Iron Man 2) we gave up and in the end settled for a refund.
If disc errors are on this boxset then we will return it and not exchange for another (will purchase as a download or even checkout the likes of CEX) as it is ridiculous but if there are no errors on the discs we will keep despite the broken cases/packs.
Good for more than just the story
My main reason for this purchase was to improve my foreign languages, and it’s absolutely brilliant for this purpose. It’s the French and German that interest me, but all the episodes are also in Spanish and Italian. What an entertaining way to improve ones foreign language ability.

yes its a little expensive and yes you can find it on most streaming sites but the sheer amount of quality and entertainment included is immense. its almost inevitable that you will need to watch it all more than once (at least) and to have it available when you feel the need is a bonus, it is probably in a niche but of a far better standard than any others of the same ilk
I’ll just briefly review the quality of the product rather than the superbly epic content as surely everybody will know how good that is by now.
They’ve managed to fit 38 DVDs into 8 standard-sized DVD cases (one case per series). Six cases house 5 discs each, and two of them hold 4. Many discs include extra documentaries, etc, in addition to commentaries, language options and subtitles in various languages. Even though I’m English I prefer to watch with English subtitles on as some of the dialogue can be a bit muted and indistinct, or drowned out by loud battle scenes for instance, even through a loud 5.1 system, and many of the strange references (such as character and place names) are easier to follow if you can see them written down. The rest of the soundtrack is very well executed and faultless, as are the graphics.
I waited until the price had dropped significantly before buying, so it was less than 1.70 per disc.
I’m sure this set will be watched over and over.
Rather baffled by all the negativity around Season 8 – the series starts superbly and gets better with each season, culminating in a mind-boggling series of episodes that are choreographed to perfection. The characters never lose their credibility and complexity and the ending is deeply satisfying. This really is a series that is perfectly cast with stand out performances from Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Lena Headey and Maisie Williams plus a host of recognisable thesps in various bit and more than bit parts. And dragons. One warning – watching this makes other “epic TV” pale in comparison. Don’t listen to the naysayers – this is utterly must watch and will take some bettering.

In all honesty, this is the best of whatever came out of Jackson’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy. I watched Season 1 and was so enamoured by I that I read the novels. As the Series followed everything fell into what I remember from the books.
Except, the finale, which for all intents and purposes was a major letdown. It was.
I don’t blame the series showrunners who’ve taken much of the brunt of the finales failings, but the author himself, George RR Martin.
I don’t need to repeat myself that when the series started, HBO hoped that the other books would be in place in 5/6 years time. Sadly not.
George RR Martin was too busy enjoying the highlife to finish off the books and give this series a proper ending.
It seems that he told the show runners the basic idea/conclusion and they had no way but to just end it. Period.
The final season(s) is a letdown considering the investment fans put into it. After the initial viewing no doubt it all makes sense but there is nothing as complex in-between to make it a coherent whole.
George RR Martin told them how he thinks he’ll end it and end it it did. Don’t blame the showrunners, blame George!

Edit: OK amazon have replaced my set with a new one even tho I was past the return window, new set has no issues as I checked every disc after it arrived. 4k looks amazing and the hdr implementation looks very well.
If you do purchase I would definitely recommend that you check each disc for playback issues when it arrives. For me the discs were unreadable in any of my players like they were the wrong region or wrong format but the error code was gibberish.
Don’t buy, half the discs from season 3 on don’t work, I’ve tried them in 4 different players. I made the mistake of not testing all discs when the set arrived and now I’m past my return window. The discs that did work are amazing quality but the others obviously not if they don’t play. 200 down the drain.

The ultimate show gets the ultimate steelbook treatment! An absolute triumph in writing and epic storytelling across all seasons. Don’t believe the trolling haters who claim to be fans. Just look at all the accolades the show has in fact garnered (especially for the final season) and has in fact changed the landscape and expectation of TV forever – not even BB has done any of that!

A piece of TV history
Fantastic box set, a piece of tv history tbh. Viewed as a whole it is an astonishing saga (in the truest sense of the word). It departs from the books, but to be honest-that shouldn’t be a problem, tv is a creative form all of its own. And whilst the last season gets a lot of criticism in some quarters, it contains one of the most exciting battles ever filmed-the Battle of Winterfell. Suspend fandom, and pseudo intellectual snipes at how the ‘books are better’ and submerge yourself in an amazing visual experience.

I think anyone who likes Narnia, Merlin, Harry Potter, Atlantis, The Hobbit, and Lord of the Rings would appreciate this. I think it is a shame that the last series pulls it down a bit, which is the reason for four stars instead of five! Having said that, I am probably too critical, but I enjoyed it anyway!

Plays on newer machines
I love Game Of Thrones and have waited a long time to be able to get the box set. Now that I have it I am not disappointed. With extra features like the “In-Episode Guide” which shows you details about the characters, locations and more you are able to fully understand the complicated story line that it is.
I was initially disappointed as many of the discs (season 1 discs 2, 3 & 4 for example) will not play on my 7 year old Panasonic DMPBDT700EB player, but do play perfectly on my brand new (bought in Feb 2021) Sony UBP-X800M2 player.

Great story/series and the picture quality is excellent however there is a problem with some of the discs; they pause or slip occasionally and it’s very annoying because you miss a little of the dialogue. 🙁
Good value
I only had seasons 1-3 and wanted to complete the collection. I looked at buying the separate seasons to finish the set but worked out it would cost more than if i bought this complete series box.
Yes i know the finale of the series was rubbish and could have been written by a 3 yr old but the rest of the episodes were excellent and well worth getting the whole series.
No issues so far with the disc quality just finished season 4.
I purchased this DVD having only intermittently watched the TV series and was waiting for the final boxed set to watch it from start to finish. It can be described as Imperial Rome meets Wars of the Roses, with fantasy thrown in. I particularly enjoyed the political manoeuvrings and betrayals and each season is full of them. The Machiavellian Lord Petyr Baelish, played so superbly by Aidan Gillen encompasses this superbly. Other truly fantastic performances are headed by the wonderful Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister) and Conleth Hill (Lord Varys). But the accent and character of a newcomer, John Bradley (Samwell Tarley) warm the heart throughout the seasons. In my opinion the performances of Kit Harrington and certainly Alfie Allen are very overrated.
There has been considerable criticism of the last season (8) but I thought it tied the series up quite neatly – my criticism is that perhaps too many of the earlier season were too slow-moving and the critics expected the ending to be more of a fairytale or similarly slow-moving.
My main criticism of the show was that it was far too dark for too much of the show – really frustrating not to be able to see all of the knifing and killing or all of a room where the action is. The DVD commentaries drone on about how great the lighting is / was -i do not concur.
My other criticism of the DVD boxed set is the sub-standard commentaries. Too often there is one episode which has 3 commentaries – why? Why not get all those with something to enhance the viewer’s experience together at one time and save 2.5 hours. Why do the audio commentators state on a lot of the commentaries – nobody watches these commentaries “get a life”. Really annoying and disrespectful to the audience who helped pay your salaries for many years. I would advise anyone to miss any commentary with Lena Hedley (Cersei Lannister), Sophie Turner (Stansa Stark), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) and Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) as their commentaries are mostly puerile, fascile, add nothing to our understanding and sprinkled with childish giggles. George RR Martin, Deborah Riley, Greg Middleton and Jeremy Podeswa are fantastic and really informative.
However, towards the end of the season one can detect that the producers (Weiss & Benioff) and Harrington are suffering from inflated egos and their success. The deterioration of Kit from being a really sensible, down to earth guy in the commentaries to season 8 is very disturbing is tangible and i was not surprised that he had “issues” as a result of this very good series.
My box came in perfect condition (fortunately). There are plenty of people leaving a review slamming season 8, however I am just going to review the item as if you are interested in spending 250 on this edition you have already made your own mind up. The box set is absolutely beautiful each steelbook is nicely spaced out using the display case and the artwork in my opinion is far better than any of the other editions. The 4K is truly stunning and I can genuinely see the difference. The box it comes in is far to nice not to display so I if you are tight on room to display it in the box that may be something to think about.
If you are a big fan like me this is the best edition to get (in my opinion)
So far I am only on season 3, but everything about this box set is superb. The packaging is excellent, even down to having spaces between the individual season boxes, so you can get your fingers in, to get them out easier.
Sound quality – You have to select ‘Dolby Atmos’ from the audio menu, when first loading a disc, as the default is Dolby 5.1. Sound is superb, from the very first rumbling of the gate at the wall, in the first episode, this really adds to the experience.
Picture Quality – There is no doubt that 4K adds to everything. The details in the clothing of the men of the night’s watch, for example, is excellent.
I had previously seen GoT on blu ray, and although the 4K steel box set is expensive, it is definitely worth it, for one of the best produced TV shows ever.

This is a review of the 4K box set, the TV series reviews are well documented and personally I liked the last series, a bit rushed, the ending wasn’t great, not very game of thrones like, bit too happy endings but hey. The other 72 episodes were great TV.
So the 4K discs, wow! This is how to watch game of thrones, crisp, perfect transfer and the Atmos soundtrack is full on. For those that complained about series 8 being too dark and you could hardly see what was happening, watch the 4K transfer on an HDR tv and it truly transforms the picture.
Now the price may put you off, it’s a lot of money but if it ever goes on sale, I would say grab it, watch it all again and enjoy the spectacle in all its glory.
I’ve been a Game of Thrones fan for a few years and I got this 4K box set at the end of 2020. I like the detail of the box set and I think its looks really cool. I really enjoyed watching how the plot started from the beginning of season 1 and how it ended in season 8 in 4K UHD.

I’ve only watched a Series 1 so far and I’ve had 2 or 3 occasions where the picture has frozen briefly but thankfully started again.
I also find that it takes a long time for the disc to get past the Warning section. Once past that you can fast forward to the actual start of the episode.
Having said all that I’m really enjoying watching it for the second time.
I have resisted watching this series simply because I had read the published books well ahead of JRRM allowing his books to be broadcast by HBO.
After waiting 9 years (I think) I caved in and bought this boxed set out of frustration! The televised version strays somewhat away from the storyline in the books (no spoilers here) but I have been waiting to discover what happened to Stannis and Theon; which is where the last published book introduces the start of the next.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this complete series. Yes, in some ways series 8 is a bit of a disappointment, but let’s get real, all good things have to come to an end and overall, the 8 series combined offer incredible entertainment and the the behind the scenes insights into how they developed the screenplay and action scenes are well worth watching too.
I doubt if JRRM will live long enough to finish the whole series of books. He has promised to meet deadlines so often and failed. It must be a huge undertaking as anyone who has read the books can testify to and therefore, if like me, you wanted to at least see some form of closure, you could do worse than watch this to finish the story. If he does publish the long awaited books and the storyline is different, great!

I don’t understand why everyone moans about season 8 so much, watching it on TV the first time it did feel rushed but watching it back when you know what happens, it’s fine. It’s not a bad ending at all.
People talk about the “character assassination of Daenerys” she’s been wanting to burn cities down since season 2 when she got to Qarth, it was always on the cards!
This is a great story although the first few episodes are a bit confusing once through them everything starts to fit together. Some people didn’t like the ending but my thoughts are that it was the only ending there could be. Any other ending would have brought more war.

I must be one of the few people who has not watched this series. After my grandchildren keep telling me how good it was and that I would enjoy it I decided to take the plunge. It arrived this morning and I have just watched the first episode and I am hooked already. I may find it a bit difficult to follow at first but will soon learn who everyone is and the way the families interact throughout the saga. So glad I eventually decided to watch it and hope to become a major fan. Great start to it.

Great value for a great program
I’ve been a fan since season 1 and enjoyed it all till the end. Things do speed up in the last 2 seasons but I didnt mind the change in pace. It seemed to be very cool to hate on the last season but I like it. I bought for 90 off amazon on a deal which works out to just over a tenner a season. I think this box set is good value it you dont have any of them.
A truly great television experience
I like sci-fi and fantasy but my wife doesn’t. So it shows how good the series is that my wife thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters are strong and there are lots and lots of plot twists along the way. The production cannot be faulted, full of detail and looks thoroughly realistic. There is quite a lot of nudity and the battle scenes are somewhat gory which will upset those of a nervous disposition. Some people complained about the ending, but I couldn’t see it ending much differently. Just buy it and watch it and you won’t regret it!

Great boxse
I’ve been waiting to buy this box set for a few years now, not disappointed. Takes up far less room than 8 individual series box sets, easy on the eye and a nice size. Series itself is still one of the best made, even if the ending itself was a disappointment.
What can I say?
If you like GOT, you will like the boxset, and it has to be in HD on Blu-ray with great audio 🙂 the extras are great also.
UNGRACIOUS NOT TO AWARD 5 STARS
Firstly can I say that Game of Thrones seasons 1 to 7 were really enjoyable and probably some of the best tv I’ve ever watched.
Season 8 wasn’t quite what we all hoped for, but in fairness it wasn’t that bad either. I guess we are all guilty of judging it against the previous seasons, but overall it was OK. For me I only had two gripes. The first battle scenes in the snow blizzard with the White Walkers were far too frantic and it was difficult picking out the good guys from the bad ones. Also we knew Cersei would eventually get her cumuppence, but bearing in mind her despicable deeds throughout the series we could have anticipated a more ingenious death.
That said I think some of the final scenes were well thought out and Peter Dinklage, in particular, stole the show.
A bit pricey but worth i
I’m a big fan of the series, so I had to add it to my collection. I would have wanted the collector’s edition, but it did not justify the 299 tag, so I went for the ‘cheaper’ option. Still demands a heft tag, but it’s well worth it. There’s a lot of extras and commentaries that add to the value.
If your a GoT fan and a collector, it’s a must.
Dexter final season is worse
While the final episode of GOT is a bit disappointing, it’s still far better than the final of Dexter. Most of the highly rated TV shows does have a problem with their final season/episode, Sopranos is no exception. Only two TV shows have a perfect ending was Breaking Bad & The Wire. Also two of the best TV shows of all time, l doubt any TV shows in the future could surpass them

Game of thrones has to be up there with the greatest tv shows ever made. The story and special effects are second to none. I know that the ending split opinion but anything this complex and popular will do. I was happy with the ending, sure there were a few things I would have liked to have seen different but then that’s down to personal opinion. It does not deserve the harsh criticism some people gave it. If you’ve not seen it I recommend you watch it and make up your own mind. I for one am glad I have the entire collection to watch again and agai

Season 8 was rushed but it still had some amazing scenes, I would definitely recommend this show…can’t wait for the prequel

After a search party I found the product of my order, the complete series of GoT.
I have been walking around for several hours inside this ginormous box, luckily I brought some crackers, a bottle of water, a portable gas stove and of course a Pot Noodle (Chicken & Mushroom yeah!)

I love game of thrones and have watched them over and over now i can watch again. Its a great boxset. Just a shame the packaging came in such a terrible mess dented and riped.
Me and my Wife finally got round to watching this last Christmas and binge-watched seasons 1-7 in just over a month. Absolutely brilliant, fantastic and all the other superlatives you can think of. My Wife even re-watched it again before season 8 was shown. And then…season 8. I won’t go ott and show my utter disgust for season 8, because it wasn’t THAT bad….and yet….as the months have passed….and I’ve reflected more on it….in a way, YES, it WAS. I….WE were meant to wait for and BUY this complete boxset….but…not anymore. I thought 1-7 were all brilliant…and then, this was just a rushed mess. Such a gutting letdown. Crap deaths/ends to pretty much ALL major characters, pointless, STUPID conclusions to other character arcs….just a terrible, terrible shame. I’ll always say it was a damn good show, but alls i can remember now is the ending…or last season i guess…and that just gives me nothing but angry, negative and frustrating thoughts. And WE didn’t even watch it through all the years the seasons were actually RELEASED!!!! That would have REALLY made us incredibly mad. A t.v
show, just like a film, thats incredibly awesome, has….NEEDS an awesome ending. Otherwise it undoes ALL that came before it…no matter HOW good the story is. For me, only Breaking Bad, The Wire, Fargo seasons 1-3 and True Detective season 1 have ever done that. Shame. Pun or not…intended.
Everyone hate-bombing the reviews because they were left unsatisfied with the finale, it’s so silly. The show gives at least 7 great seasons of story-telling, world building and character development. Season 8 and its conclusion were always going to be a point of contention for many people, but for those who have never seen the series, watch it and make up your own mind! Don’t let people influence you going into it. I personally didn’t love or hate Season 8, to me it was just… fine. Dare I even say, good enough? The spectacle and special effects are amazing, even if the writing lags behind towards the end. I understand why things ended the way they did, even if it wasn’t what I had predicted.

This was my favourite TV show till the mid part of Season 7. Sadly since then in reality it seems in order to draw the series to a quick finale the Directors and Producers of the show lost the plot George Martin has so well written and went in their own direction!
Sadly this was the wrong direction which has left the majority of fans very disappointed.
It’s worth buying if you have not bought 1-7 but if you have then I would wait till the prices drops significantly!

Is the extra content the same as the Collectors version or does that set have more?
I don’t wanna waste money on season 8, which I will never watch again, so is there any way to buy this boxset without season 8?
GOT was consistently good from the start. It is proof positive that heroic fantasy (or Sword & Sorcery) can be mature entertainment without descending to a Xena-like result.
Midway through the third or fourth episode I suddenly realised that one of the genre’s icons, none other than Conan of Cimmeria, would benefit from the GOT treatment. Conan, woefully misrepresented by a certain Mr Schwarzenegger, really needs to find a new audience and a regular show might be just the ticket.
Come on Robert E Howard’s estate – make it happen.

Loved Season 8 but it did feel rather rushed at times with some characters story arcs not as well executed or mined as much as they should.
