A hell of a game! This game has a great hook lots to learn and death is to be expected but each death allow you to get a little stronger have played this a lot! Got the platinum and still play it daily which can’t be said for some other titles which I’ve paid x3 more for, the music is amazing the game play fast and not forgiving. The combination of powers and weapons make every run different and every weapon useful when combined with the right power ups. If your a fan of rouge like games then this is one not to be missed.
Great little game Hadn’t really heard about this much, bought it anyway and ended up loving it. I played it over and over until I got the Platinum. Plenty of hours of enjoyment to be had but it can get a little tedious towards the end.
Simply brilliantly written and engaging gameplay. Great gameplay for a super giant title ot has everything and not a game you can complete in one day. It has great characters and tight responsive controls, it never gets repetitive which is rare these days. I like its Greek theme and the powers of the gods are all good. You will find it engaging and challenging in the beginning but the more you play the more you level the mirror of night and unlock new weapons and ways to get certain boons, my advice talk to every character the dialogue is brilliant and never repeats itself. I highly recommend this game it is original and a blast to play.
A little gem Never heard of this before.. took a punt with it at 16.99. So glad I did.. one of the best games I’ve played for a long time.. a hidden gem and a must..
It’s like dead cells if anyone has played that.. but better imo.
Recommended Good game. Can understand why it won so many awards. I wouldn’t want to pay any more than the 20 I paid for it… but compare that price with 60-70 for a typical new gen game and the value is clear.
Amazing Hades has quickly risen to be one of my favourite games of all time. Beautiful art, fantastic music, amazing voice acting, ridiculously fun gameplay, excellent writing (plus you can pet the dog). I’ve spent hundreds of hours playing so far and I’m still having fun and because of the different power up/weapon combinations it always feels fresh. I would be hard pressed to find a negative to this game.
Totally deserves all those GOTY awards Great game, highly addictive and manages to balance randomness with expectations to where every run feels different but I never feel like I lost a run due to RNG. Played the game for hundreds of hours on PC and decided that I wanted a physical copy on console because I love it so much. Shame there’s no cross-saves on this version, but starting over in “Hell Mode” has been a really fun time.
Fantastic game Excellent roguelike. Supergiant Games have a pretty distinct style and they don’t stray too far here. Great art design and narrative, with a soundtrack that slaps. Mechanics are a bit weird but you get used to them in no time. My only issue, and it’s just me being nitpicky, is the sheer amount of particle effects coming from absolutely everything can make it difficult to keep track of everything on screen, but in no way diminishes the enjoyment to be had here.
Only reason review is 4 stars is because Prime delivery is shambolic.
One of the best rogue-likes Hades is a rogue-like, so you should be aware of what these are before playing. They aren’t everyone’s cup of tea and even for me I don’t like most of them as they are simply too repetitive and lack reward. Hades stumbles in and out of this trap but I still enjoyed it quite a bit.
The graphics of Hades are close to what I would call cell-shaded. The PS5 really helps keep graphics fluid and a pleasure as everything operates smoothly at around 60FPS. The downside of Hades is the repetition, something I’ll be talking about throughout this review. You’ll be seeing the same 3/4 areas a lot and despite some variations in how levels are laid out, they still fall under the same themes of fire/dungeon etc.
The gameplay of Hades revolves around the rogue-like mechanics – you start at your base and go as far as you can, powering up along the way; if you die, you start over. Hades does well as it allows you to level up some abilities permanently, but for me this wasn’t quite enough as you still lose most of your gains when you die, a key tenet of rogue-likes. The downside of this is that it’s demotivating, especially as you have to traverse every area back to where you were, so it’s quite frustrating if you’re at the final boss, for example.
Hades is quite aware that you’re going to be facing repetition. By this I mean that up until I finished playing there were still fresh dialogues appearing and after completing one run there were a lot of endgame options to make future runs more challenging. These are excellent features if you really enjoy rogue-likes and want to get mileage out of Hades.
The gameplay itself is pretty tight and flawless. You can unlock a variety of weapons to battle against repetition and I found combat quite engaging to the point I wanted to play more, but also annoying when I had to start from the very first area each time.
Hades has a God mode, which I wish I had switched on as soon as I started the game as it increases your defence after each death, helping to prevent tedium and repetition.
Hades has quite an in-depth story and a ton of lore to read. This didn’t interest me but the banter and sarcasm between the characters was very enjoyable and the premise of the game is pretty easy to grasp. You won’t be caught in endless unskippable cut-scenes!
Overall, whether you like Hades or not likely comes down to whether you like rogue-likes or not. If you do, I think you’ll enjoy Hades a lot. I’m not overly fussed but still had a good time with Hades, however after one complete run I had had enough as the repetition really set in by this point. The game needs more permanent rewards and upgrades for me, which is why I’d probably recommend Children of Morta over Hades.

Everyone in our house is addicted to this game. Nobody speaks to anyone anymore.

5 Star Game
This is a great game. So addictive. Die and try again. Soundtrack and visuals are excellent all round. It’s great!
Must buy!
Gameplay, soundtrack and visuals, character art and voice acting are excellent all round. Can’t recommend this one enough, it’s great!
Very challenging in places but has the ‘one more go’ appeal – each defeat is also an opportunity for story and character progression.
Game came with a code to download the soundtrack and was reasonably priced at launch.
Addictive
Everything about this game is fantastic. Made with love and it shows.

Incredible game. The first rogue-like that I’ve been completely consumed by.
