How to avoid device offline I wanted to use a Hive Motion Detector in the garage at the bottom of my garden. This is some way from the back of my house and further still from my Hive Hub. To extend the range of the Zigbee network used by Hive, I used a combination of a Hive Signal Booster in the middle of my house and a Hive Plug at the back of my house. Thus the Motion Sensor communicates with the Hive Hub via (i) a Hive Plug and (ii) a Hive Signal Booster.
The other device you can use to extend the Hive Zigbee network is a Hive Bulb. Given the price of Hive Bulbs you can weigh up the cost/benefit of using bulbs, plugs and signal boosters and choose the best device to extend your Hive Zigbee network for your particular circumstances.
Easy set-up & works well Bought this for the bathroom window. (Battery included) – The sensor was easily picked up by Hive “Install Device” process. My window frame has a curved edge but the sensors fitted on each side using the provided 3M sticking pads – very secure.
I have chosen that when the window opens I receive a text message and a push notification. Other actions are available.
Very pleased and would recommend
Easy to install This little sensor is really easy to install, just mounted on self-adhesive pads. It triggers each time the door is opened and sends a message to my smartphone, what could be simpler.
Good item overall I have installed these in multiple places in my house. In some instances I have used two in a room, as there would be instances where one or the other might be temporarily obscured. Overall, these work well. But, they can be infuriatingly slow to activate on occasion. Whether this is due to the sensor, or more likely Hive “central”, is not clear. The app is poor in its flexibility though, plus Hive tech support NEVER take ownership of issues that are their making. That said, I am sufficiently satisfied that my house is near totally HIVE plus Alexa equipped for heating, security and lights.
Works faultlessly I use this as a movement detector in my bedroom to light a lamp in the next bedroom which shines through the slightly ajar doors to allow to see my way to the toilet, there is no street lighting where I live so otherwise it would pitch black. Far more fun than a torch!!!
Seems to work The unit does what it says and programming the Hive app was pretty intuitive. It does feel a bit flimsy for the price.
Note: this was a second purchase after sending back a faulty unit so I’m not entirely confident of its reliability
Really simple, versatile senso Really simple set up with Hive ( install new device, that’s it) easy to set up routines like on/ off lights or heating. Small, neat device with wide angle sensor, brilliant value
Works quite well I purchased the Hive Motion Sensor to control my smart lighting whenever there was movement on the landing. The motion sensor works perfectly and the Hive app easily allows routines to be set and I quickly had the landing light coming on when motion was detected during the hours of darkness, staying on for 5 minutes, then automatically turning off again.
The sensor sticks to a flat surface using the double sided sticky pads provided. Be warned, they are strong enough to remove paint if you try to reposition them. I’d suggest experimenting with positioning using tacky putty before finally using the pads once happy.
The only downside is that around 5% of the time, the light does not turn off again after 5 minutes. Whilst I appreciate that this is a software issue rather than a malfunction of the sensor, as I cant use the sensor without the app then it’s irritating enough to lose a star. Should the bugs in the app be sorted, this would work perfectly.
Every product I review is one I have purchased myself.

Generally a good product. I have a fairly large ‘Hive’ installation in constant use, with a number of these motion detectors for various applications. They are generally reliable and work well, but occasionally drop ‘off-line’. Lithium battery powered – lasts for ages! Motion detectors can sometimes be a little temperamental to set up (out of range) if remotely sited from hub or signal boosters. Hive ‘App’ can also be a little unstable – but with recent upgrades, it’s getting better with time. Tech Support (Call Centre) is not easy to contact. On-line tech support rarely works for me…
Work as expected but be aware of additional step or missing sticky pads from amazon warehouse Bought two from Amazon warehouse slightly cheaper than full price. One didn’t come with the sticky pads but luckily I had some spares.
The other also had the battery seal removed so I had to do a factory reset on it before I could add it.
Both parts just stick to the door and door frame so installation is easy.
You need to ensure the gap is small between the two. Initially I was getting false alerts on one of the doors as it wasn’t quite flush to the frame so had to relocate the sensors.
I would recommend lining the sensors up on the correct markers on the sensors and testing prior to affecting as one of the sensors didn’t work on the marked point and had to be the opposite way around. Once added to the hive app you can monitor the sensor and test prior to sticking to the door.
Further addition. This was purchased as an addition to other Hive products. Using to switch on a group of lamps in a kitchen. Too lazy to operate a switch!
Bought from Amazon Warehouse at quite a reduced price. I suspect it is a customer return. 1. there were no adhesive pads in the box, no major problem. 2. it would not connect to my Hive Hub. It must have been previously connected elsewhere. Had to reset it (tiny red button on the p.c.b.).
Otherwise working as it should.
Does not play well with others, until you set it free! Would probably work well within it’s own ecosystem, however, I already have made a considerable investment in smart lights from another manufacturer. This would not usually be an issue as services such as IFTTT allow for interactivity between smart devices from different manufacturers. It would seem that while Hive devices are quite willing to take an input from another device or service and carryout an action (i.e. if it gets dark turn the lights on, if it gets cold turn the heating on) It’s quite a different story with their output devices, so instead of the motion detector simply sending an alert to another API and that then carrying out an action, the best you can do is get a notification on your phone or tablet and then set up another action to act on receipt of that notification. This is an unreliable and slow method to achieve an outcome which should be simple and straightforward.
EDIT:-
Anyone who is tech savvy, BUY THIS SENSOR!
Then, set it free with a ZigBee hub and tasmota!
Have connected two off these sensors to a third party ZigBee hub, and both have so much more going on than just the IR motion detector, although they are both different…..
One also has a temperature sensor, a luminance sensor as well as battery and signal levels.
The other has temperature and ‘occupancy sensors and also transmits battery and signal levels!
OOH THE ZIGBEE!
Didn’t work out of the box - might need firmware update This didn’t work out of the box.
Contacted Hive tech support and they transmitted a firmware update, after 30 mins it worked and has continued to do so.
As usual, the ease of use is compromised by the Hive app but after some cursing I have got it to do a number of different functions depending on the time of day.
Movement sensor. I have 2 of these, they work fine. Batteries last about 18 months & are easy to replace.
If you are having problems pairing press reset for 10 seconds & let the hub find it. This can take 10 minutes so be patient.
Hive after sale service could be better as they never follow through when they say they will call you back.
That’s their way of fobbing you off. Insist on a resolution & always get the persons name.
Hive senso Love this little device, have it in my hall way so it switches on my hall light as soon as the door opens ,great when you have your hands full.
Would recommend
Really good We have Hive heating and lately we have started looking at the other Hive products.
We went for a motion sensor as my wife wanted an alert if motion was detected in the Kitchen Diner at night.
This is perfect for that. It feels quite flimsy build wise but is quite compact so easy to place.
Pairing it was really strange. Went through the process but no notification of success in the app, nor was there anything obvious to say it worked. Tried reset a few times and again nothing. It was only when I had a look in the menu it was there, so this initially threw me.
I then pinned it to the HIve dashboard in the app and from there I could configure how it behaves. I have mine set to a schedule and alert me, and I have my phone set to allow the alerts when in quiet mode.
Accuracy wise it hasnt failed a single time to detect motion. I get to test it frequently as my daughter is sleep adverse at the moment. lol
Almost perfect but the setup could have been easie Having used other Hive products and therefore a Hive hub, it made sense to add some door sensors too (3). The first one worked fine but the other two did not show up on the home page of the app. Eventually after removing them and reinstalling them – they worked (and have been consistent since then). When closed they show as off on the home page – but when the door is open, the orange part lights up and show it’s on. Took a bit of getting used too. They work very well (I have had a couple of issues where after a door has been closed and locked, it shows it was open, then shut, the open, shut etc but after a minute or so, it caught up and showed that it was closed afterall). Normally thought it’s very speedy and reliable. I had to install the magnet part at right angles to the sensor and it worked so if your doors are not flush (one of mine was, the other two not) – then this will work for you (just ensure that there isn’t too much distance between the two items).
Great Switch integrates perfectly with Hive Hub Works great, automatically switches lights on in the hallway of our house if you open the front door. The lights can be programmed to stay on for a predetermined duration. Likewise the switch can start operating on sunset or so many minutes before or after sunset.
Grea Really good – I have it set to turn my stuff on when I go into my living room. You need to have a hive hub for it to work. Great smart home ecosystem with more new products launching soo
Excellent produc Arrived next day thanks to Prime. Sensor cane well packed and with a little instruction leaflet. Setting up was very easy. Pull the little plastic battery sleeve out and then go into your Hive app and follow the simple instructions ( you will need to have the Hive Hub). Once connected the the app notifies you when the door is opened and it will tell you how long it was open for too. I’m very impressed with it and will order more for the other doors.
Perfect for your automated needs Purchased 3 of these so I could set them up around my house so I didn’t have to turn the lights on or tell Alexa to do it they were super easy to set up and didn’t take long at all probably about 5mins
I currently have a routine so that when I walk past during sunset the lights turn on and they notify me if they get triggered when I’m at work
The only downside to these is the fact that I’ve had false alarms and the upstairs light turned on randomly at 1am and woke me up
Great door sensor for action through HIVE hub NOT FOR MOTION DETECTION!!!!
THESE REGISTER WHEN THE DOOR OPENS OR CLOSES.
I LOVE THEM AS THEY CONNECT THROUGH HIVE HUB TO ALL OF MY PHILIPS HUE LIGHTS AND SET ACTIONS WILL TURN ON LIGHTS AND MY TV AFTER DARK SHOULD MY BACK DOOR BE OPENED IN THE NIGHT.
GREAT VALUE IF YOU NEVER PAY FULL PRICE.
Works well and does what it says. Great addition to the Hive system. Mine is set to switch on the kitchen GU10 bulbs every time I walk in and when I leave they switch off 3 minutes later. Easy to install and quite small. Only downside with Hive products is the price! Nothing with Hive is cheap, but their items are good quality and last.
I’m now thinking where to position my next sensor and what action I want it to do!
Hive wins agai As like all hive products hive work well. I can’t fault this product or the other hive products I have. Works well with products in use.
Very easy to use and install brilliant device Very easy to install can time when on and off so busy times like weekend days just turn it off pings to my phone when door is open great but of ki
It just works - don't have any issues with i Other people have complained of battery life but I have two of these which have been running for a year and are still on the original battery.
They have good sensitivity, easy to mount with double sided sticky tape and if you cover the LED unobtrusive.
Basically they do what you would hope they are for – allow you to trigger Hive devices or just simply log activity.
Easy to connect to hive and bulb These are a fab little gadget, put one in kitchen near door with a wall light. And when you get up to mash a cuppa the light come on automatic, smashing :), also one on stairs so when walking up again come on automatic, lovely little gadge
Great for automation of existing hive bulbs. These are pretty good sensors so far. There is occasionally a longer delay when activating lights but that seems to be related to surrounding temperatures. I’m only talking a second or two, not major delays. Would recommend them if you have hive lights etc.
Superb integration of a simple idea. Really easy to install, notifications are almost instant (within seconds). Great piece of equipment to add to the Hive system. Will be buying more at a later date
Good produc Have used hive for a couple of years. These sensors are good, no issues in all the time I have used them. Will continue to buy hive complements for my home. Just not the cameras.
Very helpful for when you don’t have any free hands as this will switch lights on for you Use to switch hallway lights on when dark outside so no more thumbing for light switch in dark.
Seamless use as expected with Hive Solved a huge problem of letting our 2&3 year olds turn on the light in the downstairs toilet by themselves.
Used with a Hive bulb, opening door now turns on the light, and it goes off automatically after 10 minutes.
Very simple installation.
Good Hive Produc Remember you need a Hive hub for this product. Motion detection and response with hive app absolutely fine. Battery life currently appears great, has not drained at all after a month of service.
Works well with other Hive products This sensor requires a hub this is ok if you already invested in the hive eco system otherwise you’d have to fork out 70+ for the hub. You can use it to get peace of mind when you are out of your house. Use this on your door or window, it detects windows and door opening, so if its opened when you’re not in you get a notification straight away on your smartphone.
Set up and instructions is very easy and straight forward especially if you already have Hive. installation on your door or window is also very easy, the sensor comes with sticky pads, making the install very clean and simple. Whilst the app could be a lot better, it is very simple and easy to use.
Through the app you can set up automation/routines and you can also set up the Hive Door sensor to be used with other Hive integrated products like the Hive smart plug, motion sensor, camera and light bulbs. You can check the status of your door or window and look up activity over the last 24 hours for free or pay 5 a month to look up the last 30 days.
A few reviews complain about connection issues and battery life but I haven’t had any such issues. I have the latest wireless Hive 360 hub, the hub itself has on the odd occasion gone offline for some strange reason, but that’s an issue with the hub not the sensor. I’ve been using the sensor for just over a year and it’s battery indicator on the Hive app shows the battery is still full which is great.
I like this sensor, it’s reasonably priced and works fairly well as a security device, however I can only really recommend it if you’re already locked into the Hive eco system, that way you’d get the most out of it. Hope this was helpful.
Peace of mind for holiday home Installed this at a holiday home for peace of mind. Reassuring to see ‘no motion’ reported on app when back at full time home. You need the Hive Hub (which we have with Hive heating – also useful at a holiday home as you can control heating and water before you arrive). Motion sensor can be used to trigger other Hive devices.
perfect for our needs Our bathroom light switch is behind the door which is a nightmare, particularly for the children as you have to go into the bathroom then shut the door to find the switch which is very scary for the children at night time when it is pitch black. The motion sensor is programmed to turn the bathroom light on every time some one walks in the bathroom and it works perfectly. We have programmed it to start an hour before sunset and end an hour after sunrise so it doesn’t come on in the day time. Everyone is happy now.
Excelle I really like this motion sensors. Since i put them up, we haven’t touched the light switches for the hallway, landing or kitchen sinse! They are sensitive enough to keep the light on with minimal movement in the room. I have them set up to turn lights on from sunset to sunrise for a few minutes, so we never leave the lights on in those rooms now. I’d like to get another for the living room when i can afford. They are fairly expensive, but they work well, and the build quality is good. I’ve seen a few people complain about battery life, but i haven’t had any issues with them, I’ve had them up for quite a few weeks, (3-4 months-ish) and they are still working fine – as I say, they are in the kitchen, hallway and landing, fairly high traffic areas considering we have a 4yo running around the house too!
*Update*
I still haven’t replaced the batteries in any of the sensors and they are still working perfectly, even in high traffic areas like the hallway.
Since writing my original review I purchased another two sensors – for the living room and new extension that we use as a dining room.
Works great for me Read a lot of reviews that say this is rubbish and unreliable and battery dies and things like that. I’ve had mine for 3 months now, and it works every time. I have it in the garage, and so it probably gets used once or twice a day, so not massive use, but not rarely used either. It’s never failed to turn on, and I have it stay on for 5 mins and auto turn back off, which has also works great.
I wonder if the people having problems have it in busy rooms, so it is constantly being triggered. For my usage it’s been great. If it ever develops problems then I’ll update my review.
I’m thinking of getting another one for the hallway which would then be triggered 10+ times a day, so it will be interesting how much that affects performance.
Great product, works well with no issues at all The top review is negative for this item and this did put me off purchasing this for a while but then I checked the recent reviews and this had positive feedback so thought I might as well try and if I have issues Amazon’s return policy will protect me.
I needed a motion sensor to turn on the bathroom light especially during the night. Once set up which is easy to do via the app this is working great. I have set multiple schedules to work at different times with different brightness’s. There is a lot of flexibility available. I still can’t understand the negative reviews as a lot of external factors can affect these, network speed, number of devices, signal strength of the device so it will work differently for everyone. I cannot fault this product it also looks great and is small and discreet. I will look to add more in the future.
Works well with Hive I bought this motion sensor so I knew who was coming and going into my property, I could then go back using cctv also installed in my property, to the times triggered by senso
Great product but beware the levels. Arrived within 24hrs as a Prime member. The supplied instructions are ample to talk you through the connection to your Hive account but if you’ve connected any other devices in the past it’s pretty easy without them. Only issue I had was that the level of my door frame and door itself at the top are a few millemeters different so I ended up having to fit the sensor to the frame and the magnet to the door in a horizontal position. I tried it the other way and having the magnet lower than the sensor does not trigger the sensor when the door opens. So my advise is that if your door and frame are not level with each other like mine make sure the magnet is the higher of the two pieces, as can be seen in my second picture, to ensure correct triggering of the sensor.
I really like them but there is a problem. Edit: Hive resolved this issue and I know have 1 sensor switching on 4 bulbs perfectly every time so I’ve changed my review from 4 to 5 stars.
I’ve recently kitted out my home with a number of smart devices including Hive Thermostat, bulbs and sensors and being wheelchair bound their making my life that bit easier.
I have one of these sensors in the bedroom which turns on a lamp as I enter the room and that works perfectly.
I put one in the kitchen to turn on 4 GU10 bulbs. It would work for a day and then stop working, if I deleted the routine and redid it then it would work for a short time. I returned a sensor thinking it was faulty but a second one was the same.
I was considering what the difference is between the two rooms and decided to try only linking 2 bulbs to the kitchen sensor and that resolved the problem. I’ve ordered a second sensor for the kitchen to turn on the remaining 2 bulbs.
It’s less than ideal to have to spend that amount of money twice but for me it’s worth it.
Incidentally, I do also have a door sensor and that manages to turn all 4 bulbs on when coming into the kitchen.
Easy enough to set up Very easy to set up and install, no issues at all, connected to the app and was ready to use in under a few minutes
Notifications seem to work fine too, overall please with it and what it does even though that is just telling me when the front door is open or closed and for how long it was open etc lol
Work perfectly Not sure why people are experiencing issues mine worked straight out box, with no issues. I used it to create an action to turn on an Hive socket that switches on LED lights going up the stairs. I read some people had mentioned issues with battery life but too early to say. All seems great so far.
Have to reset actions everyday- issue fixed Works perfectly to turn on lights in our utility room and then turns them off 5 mins later. However, I have to reset the action everyday or it stops working! If have can fix this glitch I would give them 5 stars.
Update: as I said above I would give 5 stars if the issue was fixed. Not sure how it got fixed since I did nothing but maybe something in the new app.
Not a bad motion sensor but I don't use it with Hive tech I bought this sensor for an experiment. I want to be able to turn on my existing LED bathroom light.
I haven’t fitted it as yet I just have it set up on my mantlepiece whilst I get it working as I want.
I bought this sensor as it is the cheapest mainstream smart home sensor that I can find. I wanted the Hue sensor but it is 35 which is far too much. Standard PIR’s are less than 10! So this one at 22 seems a reasonable compromise.
I have been using the sensor to control a Philips Hue compatible LED strip controller. I set it via IFTTT to come on if it detects movement and turn off after 5 minutes of no movement. This was not that easy to achieve in the first place and difficult to adjust. But as this should be a set it up and forget it installation I am not too bothered.
I am very much of the opinion that all smart home tech. should be zigbee complient (the main type of standard at present as far as I can see) and interact with each other. That way us consumers can buy on function, quality and price. I don’t want to be tied into all my smart home tech. having to be purchased from the same manufacturer.
The only complaint I have about this product is that it is not usable in my Alexa app which is why I am forced to use IFTTT.
Come on Hive we as customers want flexibility, make the sensor accessible in Alexa, Google home and Apple then we can all use it.
Most important give us plenty of functionality with multiple day/week timers.
Would I buy it again or recommend this sensor. At present, I think this is only good for the serious enthusiast and tech nut like me. Once the Hive team sort the app out and make the sensor more usable across platforms I will buy more but until then I wont.
Cheapest Black Friday deal that motion senso Easy to add to any current system used within hive, great Black Friday price.
Be aware of interference with other product as it may cause to drop signal and sensor won’t respond to hub
Good but not always reliable. I have quite an extensive Hive set up, heating, bulbs, motion and door sensors.
The door/window sensors are very easy to install, just fit the adhesive strip and put them into position. Pairing them from the Hive app is fairly straightforward.
The sensors can be set to send push notifications and also to perform other “actions”, I have mine set to switch lights on when a door opens during sunset to sunrise.
These generally work well but as with the motion sensors, occasionally they have a habit of going off line. Getting them back online can be a bit of a nuisance and I generally end up having to remove the battery, wait a few seconds before reinserting it and then pressing and holding the reset button until it enters pairing mode and then perform the pairing through the app.
This is all well and good if you are home when they go offline but if you are away then you don’t know what is going on.
So they are good but could be better/more reliable.
Excelle This is part of the wider Hive technology products. It is functional and discreet. Tethered into other products and the Hive App makes it works brilliantly. I’ve got it turning an electric fire on and off for an elderly infirm relative who forgets to do so. The fire is switched on in timing increments of 15 minutes with a Hive plug which keeps my relative safe and saves power from unnecessary usage. Brilliant device
Mostly does its job Installation wasn’t as straight forward as the manual makes out – I had to restart the hub to get it connected, however once it found it – it was easy enough to stick in place and set the schedule for monitoring motion.
I only have it set to alert me via the app and it does this well, the logs are handy too.
Only once have I had a problem where the hub lost connection with it, again restarting it seemed to fix that.
It’s a neat little piece of equipment, but in reality – by itself isn’t all that useful, just being told there’s movement and not being able to see it is quite limiting, but it does what it’s meant to.
Also – my cat doesn’t appear to set it off too much – mine is positioned near the stairs so sometimes she can, but mostly hasn’t.
Perfect solution for raiding missions! Brought this to use with my hive bulbs as needed a no noise solution for when I raided the pantry at night!! The light switch for my pantry was a pull cord which made an annoying loud click when used! It was like an alarm going off late at night when I was stealing..I mean helping the kids not to eat sweets!! So this was my new high-tec solution and it works a treat! Ha ha
No more loud clicking so my secret sweet raiding missions are undetectable and are currently blamed on the sweet monster who eats kids sweets if they don’t do as there told 🙂
The only slight down fall though is if your hive fails I have no light and the have to reset the hub and motion sensor by removing the battery but this rarely happens. Main thing is it stops that loud clicking sound!
Really cool, fitted to the door for the landing and ... Really cool, fitted to the door for the landing and sets the lights off when the door opens. Very happy.
Works fine... don't know what fuss is about! I bought one of these to switch hive lights on/off in the hallway. The lights will only switch on at selected time before/after dusk and stay on for a chosen period of time. Took me about 3 mins to set up. I’ve not had any problems that others seem to have had – possibly due to recent software/firmware updates.
EDIT: I began having an issue where the ‘action’ to turn on/off lights would not work the following day. After trying a few things, I found that it works much better if you assign the action to individual bulbs rather than their group. It has now been working flawlessly for several months without any further issues. Hope this helps….
Good coverage I have this set to email me between particular hours (When I’m not home). It’s great. As soon as I get an email, I can look straight at my cctv on the phone.
Love it. Gives me peace of mind after a messy break up.
Thoroughly recommend Excellent product mounted on the landing so just start walking up the stairs and light comes on, get up to go to toilet in the night and light comes on at 5% brightness, can see where you are going without disturbing anyone else.
Bought as an alarm to alert us to my elderly ... Bought as an alarm to alert us to my elderly mum exiting her bedroom at night. Working with Hive it turns the landing light on and alarm sounds on mobile. A Hive hub is required for this. Works well.
Perfect when you’re walking in to a dark house We attached this to our front door and connected it to a hive lightbulb in our hall. Each time the door opens the light goes on for 1 minute! Perfect when you’re walking in to a dark house. This system is so simple to use and the devices practically install themselves. Looking forward to seeing what is next!
Firmware update makes sensors more reliable. I brought theses to trigger lights on and off around my home. They work fine for a while but after triggering light on and off for a while they always end up sticking light stays on. I think this maybe a software problem but after multiple updates problems persists so have disabled the function in hive software. Hopefully they will eventually sort out this problem and I can use the sensors for there intended purpose.
Update:29.11.18
After updating to the latest hive hub and firmware updates to sensors they are much more reliable now. Get occasional glitch now and again but on the whole I am now happy with my hive sensors.
Home automation made easy. I bought this to automatically turn on my young daughter bedroom light for her as she can’t reach the switches and I didn’t want to be leaving her evening unnecessarily. Its done the trick as far as that’s concerned. The only downside is that the actions you can create in Hive are a little limited. It would be nice to have different activation lengths at different times of the day. At the minute all you can set its a duration for the light to be on and the time periods the sensor triggers those light activations or not. I’ll be interested to see how long the battery does last. Installation was quick and simple. Pull the battery tab to connect the battery and then add some sticky pads (supplied) and stick to the wall. The front cover detaches easily from the back plate to allow you to replace the battery.
Good not great, a bit expensive Does what it should, looks OK on the wall. I had a problem resetting the device, the button is tiny and requires multiple presses and the battery is not a common a size.
Brillia A fantastic addition to the Hive ecosystem. I have actions set up to turn the lights on as we pass, it makes the smart lights setup completely seamless. You’ll be glad you bought it and you’ll probably buy several of them as I have.
Very quick and easy to setup straight out of the box Very quick and easy to setup straight out of the box. Seems to work faultlessly so far. Impressed.
Update:after several months of use the sensor still works faultlessly 99% of the time. A couple times there is a slight delay in sending me a notification but we’re talking a couple seconds. Still a great item and would still recommend it.
Door guard Easy to set up,works well and currently switches all my hive lights on when I open the door so kids don’t walk into a dark house, motion sensor next and camera ,I recommend
Love the Hive system Connects well to the hive system, have purchased a few of these now. Good when getting back late and have the lights automatically come on. Sure they will save on electricity
Amazing product when working When connected and working properly these are really good but find there are still bugs in the hive system which lets this product dow
Great for monitoring movement in the home I noticed this had mixed reviews. It must be down to the people fitting it. I have had mine for a few weeks now. It was easy to install and has worked faultlessly since. I use different features of the sensor under different circumstances. Always does exactly what’s expected of it.
What a beautiful product. I have paired it with a Hive ... What a beautiful product. I have paired it with a Hive bulb and the two work together so that when someone goes upstairs the light turns on for 5 mins every time. Absolutely wonderful, mega-easy to set up and totally reliable. Well done.
Hive Motion senso
bought to add to my Hive Home Guard system. Work great, cheapest price I could find plus Prime protected. all good
How to avoid device offline
I wanted to use a Hive Motion Detector in the garage at the bottom of my garden.
Easy set-up & works well
Bought this for the bathroom window.
Easy to install
This little sensor is really easy to install, just mounted on self-adhesive pads. It triggers each time the door is opened and sends a message to my smartphone, what could be simpler.
Good item overall
I have installed these in multiple places in my house.
Works faultlessly
I use this as a movement detector in my bedroom to light a lamp in the next bedroom which shines through the slightly ajar doors to allow to see my way to the toilet, there is no street lighting where I live so otherwise it would pitch black. Far more fun than a torch!!!
Seems to work
The unit does what it says and programming the Hive app was pretty intuitive. It does feel a bit flimsy for the price.
Note: this was a second purchase after sending back a faulty unit so I’m not entirely confident of its reliability
Really simple, versatile senso
Really simple set up with Hive ( install new device, that’s it) easy to set up routines like on/ off lights or heating. Small, neat device with wide angle sensor, brilliant value
I purchased the Hive Motion Sensor to control my smart lighting whenever there was movement on the landing.

On-line tech support rarely works for me…
Hive window locks
Good iv had a bit of a delay when I first open window but it does tex
Work as expected but be aware of additional step or missing sticky pads from amazon warehouse
Bought two from Amazon warehouse slightly cheaper than full price.
Didn’t work out of the box - might need firmware update
This didn’t work out of the box.
Hive senso
Love this little device, have it in my hall way so it switches on my hall light as soon as the door opens ,great when you have your hands full.
Would recommend
Really good
We have Hive heating and lately we have started looking at the other Hive products.
I get to test it frequently as my daughter is sleep adverse at the moment. lol
Almost perfect but the setup could have been easie
Having used other Hive products and therefore a Hive hub, it made sense to add some door sensors too (3).
Great Switch integrates perfectly with Hive Hub
Works great, automatically switches lights on in the hallway of our house if you open the front door. The lights can be programmed to stay on for a predetermined duration. Likewise the switch can start operating on sunset or so many minutes before or after sunset.
Does what it is supposed to do
I’ve used this sensor on our door to switch off the Central heating when the door is open.
It works very well.
easy set up
I’ve got it to switch a light on for 30 secs when I walk into the conservatory, dusk till dawn.
Grea
Really good – I have it set to turn my stuff on when I go into my living room. You need to have a hive hub for it to work. Great smart home ecosystem with more new products launching soo
Excellent produc
Arrived next day thanks to Prime.
Perfect for your automated needs
Purchased 3 of these so I could set them up around my house so I didn’t have to turn the lights on or tell Alexa to do it they were super easy to set up and didn’t take long at all probably about 5mins
I currently have a routine so that when I walk past during sunset the lights turn on and they notify me if they get triggered when I’m at work
The only downside to these is the fact that I’ve had false alarms and the upstairs light turned on randomly at 1am and woke me up
Great door sensor for action through HIVE hub
NOT FOR MOTION DETECTION!!!!
Great Produc
Very pleased with the product. Works fantastic with a Hive light. I will buy more
Works well and does what it says.
Hive wins agai
As like all hive products hive work well. I can’t fault this product or the other hive products I have. Works well with products in use.
Worth every penny.
Installed a handful of them about 3 years ago and still going strong.
Very easy to use and install brilliant device
Very easy to install can time when on and off so busy times like weekend days just turn it off pings to my phone when door is open great but of ki
It just works - don't have any issues with i
Other people have complained of battery life but I have two of these which have been running for a year and are still on the original battery.
They have good sensitivity, easy to mount with double sided sticky tape and if you cover the LED unobtrusive.
Basically they do what you would hope they are for – allow you to trigger Hive devices or just simply log activity.
Easy to connect to hive and bulb
These are a fab little gadget, put one in kitchen near door with a wall light.
Good produc
Have used hive for a couple of years. These sensors are good, no issues in all the time I have used them. Will continue to buy hive complements for my home. Just not the cameras.
Great Motion Senso
Great sensor ,use for motion alerts, works a treat with the hive hub and app
Very helpful for when you don’t have any free hands as this will switch lights on for you
Use to switch hallway lights on when dark outside so no more thumbing for light switch in dark.
Easy and simple
Works well and linked well with the lights. Perfect on a dark evening when my hands are full!
Seamless use as expected with Hive
Solved a huge problem of letting our 2&3 year olds turn on the light in the downstairs toilet by themselves.
Used with a Hive bulb, opening door now turns on the light, and it goes off automatically after 10 minutes.
Very simple installation.
Easy
Very easy to connect and hassle free, works well with my other hive stuff.
Good Hive Produc
Remember you need a Hive hub for this product. Motion detection and response with hive app absolutely fine. Battery life currently appears great, has not drained at all after a month of service.
Door senso
I purchased this for my walk in wardrobe . When I open the door the light comes on instantly . Exactly what I wanted it fo
This sensor requires a hub this is ok if you already invested in the hive eco system otherwise you’d have to fork out 70+ for the hub.
A great security additio
A great addition to our smart home and security peace of mind. Easy to set up.
Peace of mind for holiday home
Installed this at a holiday home for peace of mind. Reassuring to see ‘no motion’ reported on app when back at full time home. You need the Hive Hub (which we have with Hive heating – also useful at a holiday home as you can control heating and water before you arrive). Motion sensor can be used to trigger other Hive devices.
Good Buy!
Literally easiest thing ever to install yourself, does the job you need it to.
Nice little device
Bit temperamental but have managed to like to our hive
perfect for our needs
Our bathroom light switch is behind the door which is a nightmare, particularly for the children as you have to go into the bathroom then shut the door to find the switch which is very scary for the children at night time when it is pitch black. The motion sensor is programmed to turn the bathroom light on every time some one walks in the bathroom and it works perfectly. We have programmed it to start an hour before sunset and end an hour after sunrise so it doesn’t come on in the day time. Everyone is happy now.
Not the cheapest but works great with Hive 360 Hub
Delivered next day and works superbly with my Hive 360 hub.
Perfec
Does what it says on the tin, tucked in a corner, you’re not aware it’s there.
Great little sensor. All good . 👍🏼
I love this sensor, it does everything it should, reliable and easy to set up.
Excelle
I really like this motion sensors.
I’ve almost forgotten how a light switch works!
Hive sensor all good
Very good product that adds extra layer of security and efficient for managing your home heating.
Read a lot of reviews that say this is rubbish and unreliable and battery dies and things like that.
Great product, works well with no issues at all
The top review is negative for this item and this did put me off purchasing this for a while but then I checked the recent reviews and this had positive feedback so thought I might as well try and if I have issues Amazon’s return policy will protect me.
Works well with Hive
I bought this motion sensor so I knew who was coming and going into my property, I could then go back using cctv also installed in my property, to the times triggered by senso
Delays on detecting motions
This sensor is good, but there is a delay on detecting motions
Easy enough to set up
Very easy to set up and install, no issues at all, connected to the app and was ready to use in under a few minutes
Notifications seem to work fine too, overall please with it and what it does even though that is just telling me when the front door is open or closed and for how long it was open etc lol
Work perfectly
Not sure why people are experiencing issues mine worked straight out box, with no issues. I used it to create an action to turn on an Hive socket that switches on LED lights going up the stairs. I read some people had mentioned issues with battery life but too early to say. All seems great so far.
Have to reset actions everyday- issue fixed
Works perfectly to turn on lights in our utility room and then turns them off 5 mins later. However, I have to reset the action everyday or it stops working! If have can fix this glitch I would give them 5 stars.
Update: as I said above I would give 5 stars if the issue was fixed. Not sure how it got fixed since I did nothing but maybe something in the new app.
I bought this sensor for an experiment.
Cheapest Black Friday deal that motion senso
Easy to add to any current system used within hive, great Black Friday price.
Be aware of interference with other product as it may cause to drop signal and sensor won’t respond to hub
Used as door sensors
Does what it says on the tin. Got them covering front door, back door and conservatory door.
Excelle
This is part of the wider Hive technology products.
Great ki
Easy to install etc. I have 2 of these now controlling the lights on my stairs and landing. Very pleased.
Mostly does its job
Installation wasn’t as straight forward as the manual makes out – I had to restart the hub to get it connected, however once it found it – it was easy enough to stick in place and set the schedule for monitoring motion.
Spy In The Sky!
Ideal not just for burglars but in our case when the students get in!
Great Produce and easy to use.
Easy to fix and set up. Works well with a text alert when I am away from the house.
Works well.
Works well. But would be better once this is compatible with Alexa.
Works perfectly well
Very easy to set up
Currently have it to trigger an alert and switch on hallway lights for one hour only after sun set.
I think the bad reviews are from people who are not setting up the if, else logic correctly on the action when the switch is triggered.
Hive could make the app easier I guess.
I’ve added a picture of how I set up the action if that helps anyone.
Very happy.
Hive senso
Does the job very well. Mine was a long way from the hub so I did need a booster too
Good coverage
I have this set to email me between particular hours (When I’m not home). It’s great. As soon as I get an email, I can look straight at my cctv on the phone.
Love it. Gives me peace of mind after a messy break up.
Thoroughly recommend
Excellent product mounted on the landing so just start walking up the stairs and light comes on, get up to go to toilet in the night and light comes on at 5% brightness, can see where you are going without disturbing anyone else.
Bought as an alarm to alert us to my elderly mum exiting her bedroom at night. Working with Hive it turns the landing light on and alarm sounds on mobile. A Hive hub is required for this. Works well.
Perfect when you’re walking in to a dark house
We attached this to our front door and connected it to a hive lightbulb in our hall. Each time the door opens the light goes on for 1 minute! Perfect when you’re walking in to a dark house. This system is so simple to use and the devices practically install themselves. Looking forward to seeing what is next!
Good not great, a bit expensive
Does what it should, looks OK on the wall. I had a problem resetting the device, the button is tiny and requires multiple presses and the battery is not a common a size.
A fantastic addition to the Hive ecosystem. I have actions set up to turn the lights on as we pass, it makes the smart lights setup completely seamless. You’ll be glad you bought it and you’ll probably buy several of them as I have.
Very quick and easy to setup straight out of the box. Seems to work faultlessly so far. Impressed.
Update:after several months of use the sensor still works faultlessly 99% of the time. A couple times there is a slight delay in sending me a notification but we’re talking a couple seconds. Still a great item and would still recommend it.
Door guard
Easy to set up,works well and currently switches all my hive lights on when I open the door so kids don’t walk into a dark house, motion sensor next and camera ,I recommend
Love the Hive system
Connects well to the hive system, have purchased a few of these now. Good when getting back late and have the lights automatically come on. Sure they will save on electricity
When connected and working properly these are really good but find there are still bugs in the hive system which lets this product dow
I noticed this had mixed reviews. It must be down to the people fitting it. I have had mine for a few weeks now. It was easy to install and has worked faultlessly since. I use different features of the sensor under different circumstances. Always does exactly what’s expected of it.
What a beautiful product. I have paired it with a Hive bulb and the two work together so that when someone goes upstairs the light turns on for 5 mins every time. Absolutely wonderful, mega-easy to set up and totally reliable. Well done.
