THUMPS UP
I love this bit of kit fit perfectly and reduced the pain from the std pads. feels like real controllers.
Comfy, nondrifty, massive joycon replacements
Stick these on your switch and your drifting worries will melt away
Stylish
Sexy
Only major downfalls is lack of hd rumble and gyro but who’s going to want these on the 7:21am commute
Lovely 😍
It’s an amazing product
Very comfy and much better than having joy cons
Great purchase
I find it easier to play games with this. It feels like a Xbox controlle
Split pad Pro
Perfect size for anyhand size who does want to use the joy con’s
So much better than joy cons
For someone who has long hands this is perfect for me, I haven’t taken these joy cons off my console yet since and I doubt i ever will. These provide more grip and comfortability for people with medium to bigger hands. The only small thing that irritates me slightly is that the back buttons feel slightly uncomfortable to rest your fingers on to access when playing.

Like using a pro controlle
Brilliant controller good fit, blue colour is great. Comfortable in the bad and well balanced.
Doesn't have tilt sensors so -1, otherwise great.
Very comfortable. The increase to the overall size is a fair trade off for full size grips. But no tilt sensors, which are needed for some games… soon. -1, shame.
Amazing Quality!
Amazing just amazing!
It got delivered with care, its extremely comfy and not a high sound click!
Only three catches:
1) It doesn’t stand with the click stand (regular switch)
2) Cant use rumble/motion controller or be played de-tatched from the switch
3) Hard to put in dock (regular switch)
Immersive experience
Levels up your switch gaming. Nothing else to say.
if you’re serious about using your switch in handheld mode – this is for you
Back assignable buttons only work for buttons on that side.
It’s great quality and comfy. Does everything it states. Only downside for me was I can’t assign A,B,X,Y buttons to the assignable button on the left controller.
Perfect for big hands
This hori split pad pro is perfect for any person with big hands or that just wants a pro style playing experience
Comfortable hand se
This is a good handset. It makes the switch controls larger and more comfortable to hold.
<3 Amazing product !!
What a perfect addition to the switch !
The hori pads bring a near exact Xbox like quality to the handheld console.
For those of us with larger hands these pads are a godsend … (no more cramping in our thumbs)
the joysticks feel infinetly better than Nintendos original offering.
Also the colourway I chose is beautiful
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Good
My son love it and says that it is more comfortable the play than the originals one. The only downside is that you only can play connect to the device.
Nice for bigger hands
Nice for bigger hands .but it doesn’t have all the functions the joy cons have .
Excellent add on for hand held players
I waited ages to get these and what a fail. Should have bought them months ago. Complete game changer for handheld switch players. Only downside is it doesn’t fit in my travel case now. Sticks and buttons not quite pro controller level but definitely still good feel and quality
They do not support rumble, wireless or amiibos which is a bit meh, hence the 4 stars but they are fantastic for a comfortable handheld experience. The design is super cute and suddenly makes my switch look ten times more inviting. They are MASSIVE and do not fit in the case I have, so if your expecting them to be easily portible then your mistaken. However, this isn’t entirely a deduction, as this is kinda why I bought them. The normal joycons were far too small, esp if wishing to play a good few hours,. I highly recommend for anyone finding the joycons annoying to use but just take note of their small list of minus features.
Works
Does what is needed look really good compared to othe
Must have for handheld play
Very impressive bit of kit. Default joycons give me cramp after about ten minutes but I can play much longer with these. Buttons are great, no drift on the sticks unlike with joycons.
Shame you can’t use them with a docked switch but if, like me, you mainly play in handheld they’re well worth the money.
Much better to control in lieu of the small original controllers
Bought these for my two sons at Christmas and they love them. Much preferred over the original controllers due to increased size, fits the hand better and buttons more accessible where the originals you need to move your hands about to hit buttons.
Great prese
My grandson loved this and was half the price of others
Great comfort; great price.
Tried the Satisfye and it didn’t feel natural (I’m used to the Xbox controller). Then tried this bad boy and it’s perfect for the price. Yes it doesn’t come with rumble but you’ll forget about that. Quite simply it makes the Switch enjoyable to use as a handheld as I now actually want to use it and that’s what matters! 🙂 Highly recommended.
Great controller, not so great price
For myself this controller is perfect for handheld mode, since I have quite large hands so I can only play the Switch in handheld mode for a short amount of time without getting hand cramps.
This controller solves that issue and its great for that, however with it missing rumble and gyro support it really isn’t worth the full price I paid at 39.99, other reviews also mention that these controllers are not wireless which is true, however I don’t feel this hinders the experience as they are designed to be attached to the console, so this really is not a big deal to me.
So far the build quality is very solid, the buttons and sticks are absolutely fine and there is no “give” to the controllers as they feel well attached to the Switch console (I have the OLED model) it also fits well in the dock with these controllers attached.
If you want a larger controller for handheld play then this is perfect, however I would get it when it is on sale, the full price is not worth it for what you get in my opinion.
Comfortable to grip and use
If you’re looking to enjoy playing your Nintendo switch in handheld more comfortably, then i highly recommend picking this up. As you can use these while you’re traveling and not have to worry about when your joycons may run out power while playing your favourite games on the go.
Controls are very responsive and have not experienced any issues with them.
Note: If you do not already own a switch pro wireless controller, then please do not attempt to use these if your switch is in Docked Mode as they will not work and you may damage them if you try to attach them to the mini controller that you got when you bought your switch.
Not what I expected but good
Great full size controller and dockable, I was hoping the red split pad pro colour would be closer to the mario edition switch but beggers can’t be choosers however it could be cheaper for what it is
Light and chunky but great for hand held play
Takes a few mins to get use to it but after that it’s lovely, very soft touch buttons, feels more accurate in game play than joy cons.
OLED SWITCH
I can confirm this works perfectly with the new OLED Switch and also fits the new dock. In fact I think it actually fits both better due to the new secure rail locking system and seems sturdier and in the dock.

Feels more natural
Great addition to the Switch.
It makes it feel like a much bigger handheld, but it really enhances the experience for me.
Excellent controller for handheld play
I’ve wanted the pokemon split pro controllers for a while but I couldn’t justify the price tag for something that can only be used in handheld play. However, I spotted them discounted in the Amazon Warehouse and they are fantastic.
They feel so much nicer to hold than the nintendo joycons and its incredibly light which was unexpected as they look quite bulky. They’re comfortable, it matches my ACNH switch and I got them discounted so very happy with my purchase.
much more ergonomic than Joycons but there are a few downsides
I was looking for a viable alternative to the joycons as I was finding myself with hand cramp after short sessions on the Switch – The Hori pads are far more comfortable than the standard joycons, and make it much more tolerable for longer play sessions – however there are a couple of things to bear in mind:
– it’s hard to convey just how much bigger they make the console feel – Although they barely add any weight, the screen bezel especially seems far more noticeable with the extra width.
– The biggest issue is the lack of gyro functionality – i was particularly looking forward to getting through Mario Galaxy, however there are parts of the game which are wholly reliant on that hardware and as such you can’t even progress those particular parts without a motion controller – so if you’re getting these to play particular titles be sure to look into that first!
Otherwise they’re great!
Great controller. Full pad experience on a mobile console.
The controller is great. I have used it a great deal lately and it doesn’t strain my thumbs as the standard one does (big hands here).
It’s not an active controller so it only works when attached to the Switch.
On the other side, tho, if it’s not attached it doesn’t turn the console on by mistake so it can (and I have) easily be thrown in a bag without much thought.
Great produc
Honestly love these joycons. I’ve never been a fan of the Nintendo switch joycons. They’re too small and buttons don’t feel great but this is so much better. Feels great in your hand and plays really well. We had drift from multiple joycons but none from this.
Comfortable
Brought because other joycon stared to wandering. It’s a bit bigger but really comfortable to hold and play
Just perfec
Exactly what my Grandson wanted for his birthday. Would recommend.
Perfect replacement for Joyco
I’ve now used these for 3 months and these are the perfect replacement for joycons. The only downside is the lack of motion control, in games like zelda botw certain shines have puzzles that require motion control, so either keep your joycons handy or connect a pro controller.
This hori pad is really wierd if you ask me. The pad is nice to hold, the build is good and it comes with 2 crucial features. An extra button at the back that can be bind to any key, and a turbo function. I love it so much because making the extra button do turbo function is so satisfying some games that requires you to do QTE.
However, it’s also missing a key function. It does not have wireless connection, which means you can only use this in handheld mode. It’s now a pain if I want to dock the switch because I have to use a different controller and I really want to use my turbo custom button while playing on TV.
great controler for handheld play
great controller the only problem i have with it is the a button doesnt feel comfterble
Great price!
The controllers themselves are great. I can’t fault them at all! Exactly what they look like. However if you do have a switch travel case, the controllers maybe too big for it.
Really good product if you suffered the same way I did!
Really good product! I have bigger hands so whenever I held the switch with the normal joycons it was uncomfortable and I’d get pins and needles for whatever reason but this product eliminated all that. Read up before you buy as it does lack some of the things that make the joycons great but if you’re willing to make a few sacrifices then you’ll be very happy with these… (Only reason I can’t give it 5* is the aforementioned missing things)
Great for big handed gamers
These are great if you have big hands like myself comfy Easy to use would recommend even if you can use the normal joy cons
Awesome
These are great recently bought switch found controller a bit small these are perfec
Supe
So much more comfortable than the originals,
Feel light without feeling cheap.
Absolute must buy if you often play handheld
Love i
I love it even though its drifting a little bit still worth it controllers are very comfortable will try to fix drift issue soon hopefully it works 🙂
Was it fit for Purpose?
Was it fit for purpose? Yes. Did it enhance the game play? Yes. Does it seem well made? Yes. After buying at least two replacement controller sets based on the original controllers, it was great to get a robust product that enhanced the gameplaying. I would recommend this product for anyone with a switch.
Great produc
I got this set of controllers for my son as his originals were drifting terribly.
I’m really glad I did, he loves it to the point that he’s playing handheld more now than before. The grip is really comfortable. I had read that some people thought the button positioning wasn’t great bit I don’t agree. All buttons and twiddly bits are perfectly accessible even for my, quite small, hands, and my son’s, he’s 10.
Overall Review
Negatives: Feels clunkier and cheaper than advertised, is at least 15 euro more expensive than I think it should be, the buttons go down farther than I like and they don’t function as joycons/controller without being attached to the switch.
Positives: Is definitely more comfortable in handheld than using the joycons, doesn’t require charging (as it functions as an extension to the system rather then removable controllers), the analog sticks are easier to make diagonal inputs with than standard joycons and looks very nice on my docked switch!
Honestly, it works as I expected and as a monster hunter fan its really nice to have without investing in the mhrise switch which comes with mhrise joycons but its just too expensive at 45.00+ and so my recommendation is its worth it if you want more comfort when playing handheld (you wont be immune to muscle fatigue though!) and like the design but wait for it to go down in price/on sale.
Grea
If you use detached joycons don’t buy these as they only work attached to the switch or a controller dock.
If you don’t use detached joycons DEFINATELY buy these! They are FAR better than the original joycons, are bigger, easier to hold, have better buttons and apparently don’t suffer from drift.
These are quality controllers and don’t cost 60
Saved my Switch experience
This controller is so good it reconciled me with the Switch. Comfy enough to play to Animal Crossing for hours, precise enough for my Baby Vegeta bnb combos on Dragon Ball Fighter Z, Accurate enough for any micro maneuver in Mario 3D All-Star, perfect for FPS and race games, sturdy (had a few drops, not a scratch), and the turbo AND shortcuts make you life as a gamer a breeze. Buy it. Now.
Too bulky .
Find the controls a bit ockward to hold and use.bit bulky.
Great controlle
Really comfortable to use compared to my other controllers. A bit bulky but once you get used to it it’s fine. I never liked playing the switch as a handheld but with these it’s so much easier to use. Buttons are responsive and it doesn’t make my hands cramp up like the Nintendo split controllers that come with the switch. Now I can play monster hunter on the go in comfort.
Great for handheld
If you predominately play handheld and have the money for this it is a must have for the switch! However the price is a little steep for a lack of functionality compared to other controller options available
Fab!!
16 year old Daughter absolutely loves these!! She broke the l/h blue original controller but luckily kept the red one as she needs it when using her amiibo cards. The new controllers cannot read her cards. However she’s delighted with these much larger ones – easier to hold.
Really happy with them
Really great controllers, buttons are bigger and is a rewlly comfy grip
The assign and turbo button brillia
Live this product especially the assign and turbo button really inhanced my game play
100x better than the originals
Hundred times better than the original joy cons, more ergonomic, more buttons, better triggers and analog sticks. But not as easy to travel with due to it being a lot bigge
Love it!
Yes. Yes. Yes. It is so much more comfortable in your hands when you have larger controller. Good for kaizo mario levels in the go.
Obsessed
I’m honestly obsessed with this. I mostly use my switch as a handheld as I play a lot of stardew valley and animal crossing. Even though it does not vibrate, everything else is perfect
It was a fab replacement for my old controllers that were glitching out!
Great switch controllers
Shockingly comfortable and responsive controllers. As long as you’re ok not having rumble of motion controllers these are a game changer for anyone with larger hands.
I managed to pick these up for about half price in an Amazon Warehouse deal, and decided to give them a go as I spend a lot of time playing Animal Crossing, which is not really a comfortable experience on the standard joy cons. They are certainly bigger than the standard joy cons, but given that the standard joy cons felt too small in my hands, the increased size of these was a relief.
They’re easy enough to install and get started with. They fit securely onto the main body of the Switch, and I didn’t feel that they were going to be easily knocked off the sliders. They do protrude further out than standard size joy cons, so if you’re tight on space around your dock, you might want to reposition it.
I really liked the larger D pads. They were so much more comfortable than the original joy cons, or the third party ergonomic joy cons which I also own. You spend a lot of time on Animal Crossing making your character run about, so this was a really nice change. No sore pressure lines on your thumbs at all. I have yet to find anything quite as comfortable. I’ve not used the turbo or programmable buttons yet, so I can’t comment on those.
Some people have said that the body of these controllers could be easily scratched, but I don’t see how, unless you’re willfully digging something sharp into them. They’re hard plastic, after all.
I’ve only experienced drift once, and I did try to recalibrate the controller, but Google results told me that third party cons aren’t designed to be recalibrated, and sure enough, it wouldn’t let me. I turned the Switch on and off, and the drift was gone.
However, for Animal Crossing, I have gone back to my cheap ergonomic joy cons, for one reason only – these don’t have the rumble feature on them, and so many aspects of ACNH rely on rumbles to notify you of something. Caught a fish? You’d get a rumble. Achieved Nook Miles? You’d get a rumble. No rumble means you could miss out on something. I really miss using them. I’ve put Kontrol Freeks’ performance thumbsticks onto my ergonomic controller, as it’s still not as comfortable as the Hori. The extra surface space is so much nicer.
If you can live without the rumble feature, these controllers are fantastic. I’ve got several different types of joy con, and these beat all of those for comfort, hands down. They’re a premium product, so goodness only knows why there’s no variant of these with the rumble feature built in. For my gaming needs, it’s like building a kitchen without a water supply. Very pretty, but missing an essential.
much better grip! highly highly recommend!
only cons no wireless connection. but this is what you need to hunt magnamalo!
Very comfortable and responsive.
If you’ve ever played the switch in handheld mode for an extended length of time you will have experienced how uncomfortable it actually is. I bought these for monster hunter rise and they’re an absolute game changer. I can play at length without any discomfort and without monopolising the living room tv. The Switch fits snuggly between both controllers with no wobble and gives a very solid feel to the console. Comfortable in the hand and all buttons feel responsive. Cannot recommend these highly enough.
Very, very pleased.
Great controlle
These recreate the more traditional style controller feel for the Switch while in handheld mode. The ergonomics are good, the feel of the buttons very sure and precise and the analogue sticks have more travel than a standard switch. That said, there is no wireless capability, but it’s hardly a surprise if you’ve read up on it.
Hori make good controllers, and have a long history in the industry.
Amazing controllers
Excellent value for money. Much nicer for larger hands to hold compared with official joycons. I use them all the time and after around 100 hours of game play I haven’t noticed any wearing, drifting or button sticking what so ever. Best 45 I have spent on my switch. If your contemplating grabbing a set of these then contemplate no more!

Doesn't have rumble or motion. Not a deal breake
I liked the analogue sticks were a decent size. I have big hands so this allowed me to use them more effectively. Would have been better if they had rumble and motion control but you can’t have everything. Way better than the standard joycons.
Absolutely adorable
The colour is gorgeous, it feels comfortable in my hand and Eevee and Pikachu are adorable. It plays amazing and I use it when I’m not in the mood for dealing with my drifting joycons. I’d love to be able to use this as a controller while it’s docked but it’s only for handheld.
1. Aesthetics
This is a mixed bag. When attached to the switch these look like a controller was cut in half and stuck onto the switch. It would look vastly better if they had made the controller face flush with the tablet screen. As it is, the tablet is slightly recessed so it doesn’t look as clean. I’ve owned both the “black” and the Pikachu and Eevee versions. The black version is opaque black on the back half of the shell and the front half is translucent similar to the official pro controller. I’m not a fan of translucent plastic and some listings I’ve seen just call this version black, so it’s worth noting. The Pikachu and Eevee version looks just as good in person as it does in pictures. The artwork is high quality and the colors are nice and vibrant. If you are a fan of Pokemon and/or the color scheme it is very nice.
2. Ergonomics
The whole point of this controller is to give a full sized controller experience for handheld mode. It largely succeeds at this. Control placement and button size are very similar to the official pro controller. The grip takes some getting used to. As large as it is, it still feels a little small in the hands. I don’t use the programmable back buttons so having them there feels a little awkward at first. The thumbsticks have a lot of travel and resistance similar to the official pro controller. The thumbstick caps are fairly large, smooth and concave. I have large thumbs and am used to hooking them slightly over the edges of thumbsticks for extra leverage. Doing this is not really as practical with the large caps these have. However, I replaced the thumbsticks with ones for the pro controller (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B088T5TVTW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and I feel it makes a big improvement. Now if you are used to the pro controller for TV play you have just about the same feel in handheld.
3. Buttons
ALL of the buttons on this controller (and d-pad) are the classic rubber membrane type. This is a huge plus for me. I am used to decades of playing with controllers of that style and the small clicky tactile switches on the joy cons never felt good to me. The main buttons feel very similar in size and feel to the official pro controller. The + – home and screenshot buttons are rubber as opposed to the tactile buttons on the pro controller so those are a different look and feel.
4. D-Pad
It is quite nice. It’s snappy, doesn’t require too much force, isn’t mushy and accurately registers presses. I’ve been playing a lot of the Contra collection lately and I finally don’t feel like I’m fighting the d-pad. Being able to hit diagonals and quickly duck without accidentally registering a diagonal are essential for Contra and easy to do with this d-pad. I also own the Hori left D-pad joycon and that one feels slightly mushier and not quite as good. The official pro controller’s d-pad has a big problem with false inputs if you don’t cover half the contacts with (preferably kapton) tape. The switch lite’s d-pad has trouble registering diagonals without applying excessive force. Overall it’s a breath of fresh air to have a d-pad just work well since that’s apparently hard to find these days.
5. Other notes
These have no rumble, no gyro, no bluetooth, no IR, and no NFC. The lack of features makes me feel that these are overpriced for what you’re getting. This should be a $35 controller. I’ve seen the plain colored ones listed for ~$40 which is OK. The $60 MSRP for the two Pokemon versions is clearly a markup for the fancy artwork so you’ll have to decide if it’s worth the extra money. I found my Pikachu and Eevee for $55. Also of note, the switch does fit in the dock with these attached. As a bonus, they work just fine in Switchroot Android 10.
Great for frequent handheld use
Controls feel much better than the JoyCons and it helps to avoid the dreaded JoyCon drift. Inputs are super responsive, which is great for FPS games or fighting games like Smash Bros. Only downside for me is the lack of a wireless function, but it’s easy enough to live without.
Okay seriously? For less than 50 bucks I completely transformed my Switch experience with just these 2 things?
No seriously, the switch was either made purely for kids or people with tiny dainty fingers because the joycons are just annoying. I have decent man-size hands not sausage fingers or anything. I’m a guitarist so my fingers are more formed than normal with a few callouses but I cannot enjoy the joycons, I can’t even use the plus and minus buttons because they are so tiny.
Now, I had my reservations, after seeing all the reviews and YouTube comparisons I seriously thought I’d try them and have to return them in a week or so. C’mon! Who in their right mind can be so objective about these! They’re great! These are what the switch should have been released with. Then again my niece can’t play because of her tiny fingers but hey such an expensive fragile system shouldn’t even be for kids anyways.
Here’s my real review now…
Right off the bat they’re not THAT big, if anything they’re the perfect size for me and I would imagine most other consumers. Most YouTube D-bags immediately point out the size and bulkiness. That’s not the case at all. The box they came in was pretty compact. First impressions I was surprised how ergonomic they were all while not being so bulky. The back makes it look and feel slimmer as compared to the top. It feels GREAT when in handheld mode. A lot of complaints immediately go to how long it makes the switch and how weird it is to get used to. For me I was immediately comfortable but maybe that’s just me. Another complaint I heard was that the buttons were “mushy” (their words not mine). If you’re not a fan of the clickety buttons of the joycons this is a MAJOR improvement. The buttons actually feel like a gaming controller’s buttons if not better. The triggers while not like a ps4 controller they still feel great and while not sensitive like the joycons they are both ergonomic and tactile. I click them just for fun that’s how good they feel. Now… The analog sticks or however you want to call them are probably the biggest change from the joycons. While the joycons are of a different design in how movement works on the sticks, on the Hori Pad they feel like a gaming controller should! I tried playing something like Borderlands remastered with the joycons or other shooters and it’s just not comfortable at all at least not until the Hori Split Pad Pro came into the picture and knocked it out of the park. While not perfect like a ps4 controller the improvement is very visible.
Okay now the weight… With the Hori Pad the weight is kinda awkwardly dispersed. Because it makes the overall Switch longer it’s obvious how the weight can be affected. The Hori Split Pad controllers are really light in their own so when fully attached it’s the screen that feels heavier. Because of the weight difference I recommend holding the switch from the middle in the screen I feel really insecure about electronics to I don’t want to stress where the Hori connects. Though it IS very secure and doesn’t get loose or creak like the joycons I still don’t wanna risk anything so that’s me.
The added adaptive buttons on the back… They’re confusing at first I thought you could customize any button to be registered to the back/bottom triggers it’s actually just the top triggers of the Hori Pad while that’s slightly disappointing I don’t mind as I love the Hori Pad overall itself that the adaptive triggers don’t bother me and I rarely use them. It’s still a okayish bonus though. Also the turbo buttons I don’t really use because I have no idea how it works. Sounds complicated so I don’t even notice it’s there half the time. Another okay bonus.
What else… Okay, Battery life. I hear a bunch of people complain about the battery life that the Hori Pad sucks from the console itself is too much. In my opinion that doesn’t seem to make the case. If anything I really didn’t notice any huge battery life difference. I charge all my devices diligently either way to make sure I have stuff charged for my day but that I notice any difference in battery life? I don’t. I know they joycons have their own battery life and whatnot but let’s be honest the switch overall batter life is not so great. Either way I don’t spend hours a day playing I work on the road independently doing deliveries so I play on my off times and sometimes after I get home from work.
Some negative stuff that’s hard to swallow because I love this accessory so much…
Unfortunately… Because the switch is so long now and slightly bigger it’s harder to have it be more portable. It’s very cumbersome and carrying it around with the Hori Split Pad Pro attached is just annoying. Back then I bought a case from Spigen and it helped a lot in portability and comfort I could carry it in my hoodie pocket and just carry it around there or in my switch backpack. Unfortunately with the Hori Pad you’d need a specialized case which I bought but still it doesn’t help so much in portability. It’s like carrying around a tablet. Which is why I resort to removing the Hori Pad when I am going on a trip or something to help in portability. Just means I have to put up with the horrible joycons. Another small defect in the Hori Pad is that compared to the screen width the Hori controllers are thicker and they’re slightly raised a couple centimeters from the screen. Not a huge issue it just looks funny. I can easily ignore this though considering the split pad has it’s own stand feature connected on each controller. So instead of having the controllers flat on a table and rolling around maybe it stands on its own slightly. Here’s another downside. (Almost forgot) NO HD RUMBLE AND NOT MOTION TRACKING. That’s a big one and I understand for a lot of people it’s a huge problem. While it doesn’t bother me much because I don’t care much for the rumble (it’s not good compared to the ps4 and xbox controller rumble) and also with the improved analog sticks, you don’t really need motion tracking anymore I can say that honestly. I only hope that when and if they make a new model of the Hori split pad pro with all these problems fixed I would gladly pay $50 maybe $60 dollars for another type of controllers like these.
Overall, the Hori Split Pad Pro should be a must have. It solves a lot of the issues in design of the Switch and Joycons in itself. Considering that for about $40+ bucks you can get a much better gaming experience overall with your switch console AND have a reliable and comfortable new design to compliment your playstyle I’d say this a steal and a no brainer.
Because let’s be honest, the joycons suck. You’re definitely gonna be happier with these on your switch and you’ll notice all the positives instantly. I cannot recommend these enough. Btw I took my time with this review, I’ve owned these a couple weeks now and I’m still happy with them. I want another pair in another color now… I tried to be as detailed as possible because I hate when reviews leave out a lot of stuff and don’t give you the right idea of a product before you buy so thanks if you got this far. Good luck may this item help in your quest!
I first got my hands on these when I was visiting Japan, and found out we could get an amazon delivery of the japan only Daemon X Machina ones for a VERY reasonable price delivered to the hotel we were staying in. Next day. So we did. Two sets, one for me, one for my partner. They were excellent. Sure, they don’t have NFC, or gyro, and they have no internal battery or bluetooth/wireless capabilities so you can’t use them detached from the console, but they’re exceptionally comfortable to use for long periods, and the additional trigger buttons at the very back that can be programmed to replicate any of the other buttons on the half-pad they’re part of makes them exceptionally useful.
Sadly, one of our cats seems to have also taking a liking to one of these sets, and has chewed the thumbsticks quite dramatically, making one of the sets rather less comfortable to use, so we needed a replacement.
It was then we found out that the Hori Split Pad Pro was finally available in the UK, AND as a bonus was now an officially licensed Nintendo product as well (still by Hori, but sold through Nintendo and with their quality controls I guess). The differences between these ones and the original JP DXM Preorder ones are quite subtle, but surprisingly noticable.
They still don’t have any additional features, but the build quality feels better, the buttons feel less “squishy” , and the plastic feels sturdier, even on this translucent black model we purchased. If you play your switch Handheld a fair amount, but also have it docked quite frequently like we do, then these are an absolute must. Sure, you can’t use them like Joycons when detached from the unit as they have no power of their own and no accelerometers or gyro controls, but if you’re playing the Switch in bed or while out and about, these really are one of the most comfortable addons I’ve ever used.
One SLIGHT downside is that they do make it rather difficult to put the switch in a case, if you can even do that with these on the console, but for around the house, there’s nothing better.
Awesome produc
Item arrived on time and well packaged. Works better than nintendo joycons and is very comfortable whilst using. Definitely would recommend
Excellent, durable and better than the original controllers!
So much better than the original switch controllers! It’s like using an actual controller. Very durable and easy to use. I have purchased these for every switch in the house and they are brilliant. Highly recommend.
Far superior to regular Joycons
The regular Joycons are far too small for my hands and make playing in handheld very uncomfortable. The HSPP has definitely improved my gaming sessions in handheld, my hands don’t hurt as much and it just feels better to use with bigger buttons, a proper D-Pad etc. It did take a few hours to get used to though as it is very large, but give it a chance, once you get used to it there’s no going back.
Brilliant!!!
I haven’t even set up the extra buttons yet, but I still love this joy con. Much better feel playing the switch with these rather than the original joycon. Would love it if they eventually come out with a pair of these that had their own internal battery in the future.
Good Controlle
Great controller, can play for ages without my hands getting tired, and genuinely much better at the games with them! Only one down fall is the lack of vibration, a little less immersive.
As long as he's happy with it, I'm happy with it.
It was for my great grandsons birthday, I think he like it as he asked for it but I really can’t comment on it. Sorry!
Wow, the difference clipping these onto your Switch makes is unreal. I was a little sceptical it has to be said, but I took the plunge and I’m so glad I did. Yes they’re a little bulky, but they’re not meant to pop in your pocket, they’re a full on peripheral for the system. Its basically a standard size joypad/controller that’s split in two. If you don’t care about rumble or motion control in some games…….this is a no brainer. The difference it’s made to handheld control for me is unreal. 100% recommended.
Very ergonomic and comfortable to play in handheld mode, black and gold designs look nice
High quality grips and, control stick, and buttons. Only minor let down is the D-Pad, which is good but there are better D-Pads on the Switch Pro Controller and some third party controllers. I’m a Zelda fan so I like the black and gold design for the Pikachu version as it went with some gold Zelda decals I have on the Switch system these controllers fit onto. I highly recommend the Hori Split Pad Pro to anyone who finds the Switch joycons too small and uncomfortable.
Maybe it’s me but compared to the other reviewers I don’t think these controllers are more comfortable than the original joycons and I have quite large hands. Also I find the joysticks a bit too far from the buttons which make some games very awkward to play. Plus the sensitivity of the sticks is quite low so it takes longer to move so as it doesn’t have motion control it makes some games difficult to play.
expensive but awesome
So much better than joycons feels more like a proper sized controller now, and looks awesome too!
Great!
Love this product big Pac-Man fan so this was a must have for my Switch. It makes playing games so much easier especially shooter games. I very much recommend this.
Great produc
Great product makes playing handheld much more comftable. I was also happy that my kontrol freak switch pro controller thumb grips fit nicely on them
BEST BUY
If you are going to play Monster Hunter RIZE, get this one!! Highly recommended!!
BUY, YOU WILL NOT REGRET!!!
Great product absolutely in love with these controllers. They make the switch actually feel like a gaming platform.
Perfect Switch Joycons!
Only bad point is the wrong version was sent, ordered the Pikachu & Eevee one, was sent the black Pikachu one instead, bit annoyed but can’t be bothered returning.
The joycon is brilliant, does bulk the Switch up as they’re on the larger side but work like a dream, would highly recommend.
Really good
It seemed a bit bulky at first, but once I got used to it, its actually amazing and super comfortable. Perfect for FPS games as well.
This has transformed my handheld gaming on the switch. I was fed up of buying new switch joycons due to drift. I bought the joycon repair kits which work great. But then the buttons began to stop working so I decided to buy these and what a good decision it was. I play 95% handheld and I don’t use the joycons detached/freehand so these controllers are prefect for me.
Be advised there is no rubble or motion control as they have to be connected to the switch in handheld mode but for me I did not miss either. Love them.
The are so comfortable and I actually think the analogue controls are smoother and the buttons feel better than the official Nintendo ones.
