Installatio
There were.parts of the installation that could of been done before dispatch/during the manufacture ie connecting the hose internally. Seemed easy but is a 2 person especially when putting it in the wall bracket.

would recommend getting different screws with stronger raw plugs and thicker screws, the ones the come with it look incredibly small for something that’s over 15kg, but had it outside for nearly a month now and has been amazing the auto reel is amazing works very well on our Karcher jet washer, would definitely recommend this product but just do not use the screws or the raw plugs provided

Replaced a 25M hozelok that I had for about 20 years as I moved to a new house with a longer garden. The 40 metre version is quite a big unit but attached to the wall fine. It fully unraveled OK and rewound fine. Haven’t used it for three weeks but used it yesterday and hose would not fully rewind. It stopped with about 4 metres of hose still out. I tried to pull some out and then ease it back several times and it took me about ten minutes to get it back on the reel. The 25 m version never had any trouble fully rewinding. Tried several times unwinding it fully and rewinding and after a few goes it seems to be rewinding OK now.
Excellent after sales service
Bought this hose reel four years ago and last week the rewind spring failed. I contacted Hozelock to ascertain that I did have a five year warranty on this item and yes, I did. They very quickly assessed what the issue was , asked for a copy of my invoice and arranged dispatch of a new one, which arrived today. Very quick, rapid email responses. I can not fault their after sales service. All I had to do was provide a photograph proving that I had cut the hose off the old reel ( It is impossible to repair the spring as it is highly tensioned and Hozelock do not supply parts or even encourage dismantling) thus rendering it nigh on impossible to perform a repair and that was it. Wish I could get the same results from some other companies!

Great hose, very long length, take note…it’s a VERY big reel!
Don’t be a donkey like me, the hose connectors were not inside the box, so I thought you must have to order them separately…I bought a hose connection pack and when I prized of the cover to connect the hose to the tap, there was a pack of connectors and a pack of wall fixings!

Fantastically easy to set up – plenty of adjustment in the bracket holes so you get a really good level fitting. Very neat and compact. We have a fairly large garden which needs the 40m length of hose and this has just taken all the utter pain away from the last hose we used! The re-coil is superb and layers the pipe perfectly. Really good solid piece of kit- can highly recommend. Would suggest making sure the hose is relatively clean before re-coiling as dirt and grit could affect the recoil mechanism over several years of use but having said that may not be a problem at all! Overall – really pleased with this purchase.
OK but was missing a seal
I assembled it and it showered water from all the wrong places, on investigation there appeared to be a seal missing. Contacted Hozelock who posted a single…yes single o ring to fix it. Did the job and I’m glad I bought from them so they could send out a spare part.

I had the 20m version but not quite long enough for the garden and as this was was so good bought the 40m same features and just as excellent would never return to a manual wind up hose reel!
Very practical
Due to a shoulder injury, I was unable to use my previous manually wound hose reel. I therefore installed the Hozelock Auto Reel although I was dubious that it could cope with a full 40 meters of hose.
I needn’t have worried, once mounted the reel handled any length of hose and happily rewound the full length.
Supplied wall-mounting screws not up to scratch but great otherwise.
Followed the installation instructions explicitly. The screws provided aren’t up to the job though… easily rounded off going in and were then so stuck they were rounded off trying to extract. Now stuck with two screws not quite securing the wall bracket 100% to the wall and no way to either tighten or extract them.
The hose itself though, works great!
Good but not perfec
Wall fixings are difficult to make. Its necessary to be very accurate in positioning the holes for the attachment screws. There is no play in the fixing holes so in my case I could not insert the 4th screw fully. However the attachment seems to be sound and has not given any concern.
The unit design is good and there were no leaks when the water was turned on. Hose pulls out well and retracts properly but the ratchet that holds the hose in the extended position does not function well. I have found it difficult to make it work and have to pull out a few feet several times before the hose stays out in the extended position. Worth 4 stars overall.
A good hose system to reach all parts of the garden.
Very good product with a very long length of retractable hose.This large one is perhaps a little heavy to be solely mounted on a wall so have assisted the mounting by putting a house brick underneath.Very pleased and it does the watering job perfectly.
Love it, been moaning for ages about hose pipe so bought this one which goes fully to end of garden/house, retracts easily and so far perfect. Very heavy on assembly so might need two people.
Very good hose uni
I bought this to replace an old 30 meter hose that wasn’t long enough and was causing me problems. The only problems with assembly were that it was incredibly difficult to remove the old Hoselock hosepipe auto reel from the wall and no-one in my household would help me! It is quite a big unit to handle on your own and also it is difficult to line up the horizontals and verticles against brickwork. Now it is up the hose runs very smoothly and there are no leakages from the tap. I am delighted with it.

This is a great piece of equipment and I only bought this to replace the previous one that an over-zealous builder managed to break!
I wouldn’t be without one and so I purchased anew one immediately.

This self retracting hose works well, with the hose auto rewinding without tangles. This 40 metre one comes in the same LARGE casing as the 30 metre and can be found at similar or lower price. We have a 20 metre one still working well after several years.
It is heavy so needs to be fixed well to a solid wall.
The first delivered one leaked inside the drum and was exchanged. Should this occur, don’t attempt to dismantle and fix yourself; the retractor spring stores a lot of energy which when released would likely cause injury!

Mmmmm. This is my second one. The first I had to send back as it leaked from inside which I only found out when I had fixed it to the wall. You cannot fix this problem without taking it to a speacialist so I returned it and got a replacement. So, I had to take it down again, re box it and return. The return I did by collection which was very good and the replacement item came the next day. VG. After having to refix the new one to the wall it worked fine. Shame about the hiccup!!!!
Easy to use and always ready.
Very easy to use but not enough tension on the recoil. Also the spay nozzle tends to drip a bit when off but the tap is left on. Overall I’m pleased with it. It’s on the wall and long enough to reach everywhere in the garden.

It is easy to move around, also the hose is easy to pull out and retract. For the price the quality is good. I would recommend this produce. Do make sure that, due to the weight of the product, you secure it properly to the wall.

Great all around except the Hozelock package comes with screws to mount the hoses.
For the weight when in use, the screws are not long enough. After mounting I’ve had to remount the Hozelock with longer screws.
I didn’t think they were long enough, but presumed the suppliers knew what they were doing. I should have gone with my intuition and swopped out the screws for longer ones in the beginning.

MUCH MUCH easier that my old winder hose, sometimes its a little hesitant to pull back into the holder, but overall a great bit of kit, and a good price on Amazon too.
This is the third version of this we have bought. They do get a lot of use but eventually the auto wind goes, leaks develop etc. The fixing screws are a bit flimsy for the weight of the product that has to swing, so much so that I would recommend you use bigger screws and only fix it to a very hard wall. I fixed it to internal blocks and it came out after a day. A previous one lasted longer before the same problem. The hose is still useable without the wall fixing but more awkward. I shall not buy a wall-fixed one again. The weight and swing does put a lot of pressure on the wall fixing. All-in-all, a decent product, though all hose lock products ar3 on the expensive side.
No more coiling up hoses!
I didn’t find fitting this hose reel too difficult. The 40m version is quite big so make sure you have sufficient room for it to swing around. The spring inside that coils the hose up is strong but if you accidentally let go of the hose it willtake up about 20cms and then stop so there is no danger of hands getting trapped in the machine. I always pull out all the hose I need for the whole garden before I start watering (seems obvious). I stretch the hose out when I’m ready for it to coil up this way it has a nice clean run to the machine. Make sure you fit the one way valve on the reel spray nozzle end so when you remove the nozzle it doesn’t spray over you and obviously turn the tap off before removing any bits.

Brilliant concep
I would have rated this item as 5-star but for the fact that the first one received leaked water from inside.
There is no way to find where the leak is coming from as it is a sealed unit.
Replaced very promptly and this unit works perfectly. Rewind is really easy, saving energy.

We are delighted with our purchase, which may be on the expensive side for a hosepipe but it’s worth every penny!
No more getting it wrapped around our legs and tripping over it and no more hard work, winding it up again. The hosepipe itself does not kink and rewinds smoothly into the housing. The additional corner bracket we purchased
to guide it round the side of the house is also brilliant because it stops the hose getting stuck. Absolutely brilliant!

I bought this system as my garden is very big and I need to use the reel in three different directions. I have used all 50 meters so I was well impressed when, after finishing the watering, on a single ‘tug’ the whole hose length Rapidly rewound on its own!

Worth buying
Had one of these previously, and had no problems. This one purchased as a gift. Great product and the rewind facility well worth paying a bit extra for as the hand winding hoses tend to bunch up after a time and don’t always wind evenly causing irritating jamming.
Ease of use
So far so good, takes a bit of strength to pull the hose to the bottom of our garden but puts its self away brillianty, the only thing that lets it down is the silly little screws they supply to hang it on the wall as it’s quite heavy.

As described. I would be ready to pay double if someone was to make it green so that it does not stand out in the garden, particularly that yellow.. but I guess that will never happen. It’s a real eyesore as it’s quite big. The grey part is actually OK so I am just trying to find ways to cover the yellow parts and googling paint for plastic…

I previously had a 20m one. Quick, speedy return into holder.
It’s obvious really, but the 40m needs a much larger return spring. So much drag on 40m hose. I was hoping it would be more willing to return, but it still made easy work of putting the hose away.( even if it needed loads of encouragement for the last 3m)
Accessories are under side cove
Careful removing side cover to access accessories – easy to stress the clips. Use a wide flat bladed screwdriver. Get something solid to support weight of the reel while checking where and at what height to mount bracket. Screws supplied look too small but work fine if use correct drill bit for rawl plug. In use, ensure that you run hosepipe through a damp cloth so that dirt is not taken into the reef mechanism.
An excellent piece of garden equipment making hose rewinding so easy. Hose is quite narrow compared with normal hoses to fit 40 m in reel. Also, like all hoses, it will still kink if bent too tightly or loops.
A great product for gardeners with mobility issues.
I love this. I have health issues and this makes life easier.It is best to switch the water supply off at the tap and leave the hose open before using the self winding function. The water will then drain as the hose retracts into the housing. It looks very neat too.

However if the tap for the hose is set to the right of the hose reel (when looking at it) rather than the left then the feeder hose can restrict the movement of the hose reel in that direction (unless the tap and the reel are set very close together).

If you’re on the fence about whether to get one of these hose systems – like I was – rest easy and just take the plunge.
YES you could get a faulty one like some reviewers have said – there’s always a chance of that – but get it replaced if it turns up faulty! It’s definitely not going to be the norm for a brand like this that isn’t a bargain basement item from a cheap store!
These are one of those things you never knew you needed until you get one. My garden like many is long and thin. From the house – where the water is – to the drive for the cars is 30meters and in the past using a manual one to rewind that much hose was a right pain and you’d never be able to wind it properly onto the hose reel.
with this only good 3 foot pull until you hear a click and then just start walking to the reel letting it do it’s work as you go and re coil it without fuss or hassle.
I’ve been doing it the hard way for 25 years and the first thing i said was “why didn’t I get one of these sooner!”

Such a huge difference to watering the garden or cleaning the car. Much easier to use and store the hose, and the great benefit is; not having muddy hose marks on my legs after fighting with 120ft snake!
This was a replacement because the recoil spring had gone on our previous one which lasted five years.
Could not do without this as it would make watering the garden, cleaning the car, also topping up the fish pond more of a tiresome task. Well worth it’s money.
Excellent hose with totally inadequate wall bracket screws and rawlplugs
Excellent quality hose with its auto wind facility . A serious criticism is the quality and type of screw plus rawl plug provided to secure the wall 6mm is totally inadequate to support the weight and working tensions of the hose during normal operational use . As a result my wall bracket snapped and collapsed within four weeks of purchase , resulting in having to send for another wall bracket and purchasing 10mm screws and rawlplugs from my local DIY shop .
This issue needs to be urgently remedied by Hozelock .
So easy to use - Top class solution.
At last a simple solution to reeling a hose back into its container. Hose once wall mounted pulls out and recoils very smoothly with no kinking of the hose so full water pressure for my Karcher jet wash. The only thing I would suggest is use some very heavy duty wall plugs as the ones the reel comes with are not strong enough to cope with a 40Metre hose and water. I used 4 M6 Rigifix Heavy Duty Wall anchors which work equally well for block walls or brick with only a very minor filing to the reel cassette location holes to allow the M6 screws through. Delighted with the hose now.
Worth the 40m Hose
We bought two of these having had (and regrettably left) in our other house. This time we purchased two as large lawn areas and bought the 40m instead of smaller version. Worth the money even though at the time you think you could save some by having a smaller hozelock hose.
Overall, it's a good product.
Makes a tedious job much easier and I like that I can move the hose easily to water the front garden and the back too. The only thing is that sometimes it doesn’t retract the last few metres of hose. I usually give up trying and then a few minutes later it works fine !

A great piece of garden kit. Don’t know why we haven’t bought one of these years ago. Really easy to use. Makes watering the garden a breeze – we have a very large garden. Don’t do what I did and think about it for ages, just buy it! it will make your life a whole lot easier. You do need a drill to put it up and it’s not very light (we bought the 40 m one) which is a lot of hose, but once it’s up anyone can manage it.
I’m very very happy with my purchase.
It's a hose pipe!
As much as you can get excited for a hose pipe, this is right up there. The build quality is what you expect from Hozelock, they are the Ferrari of hose pipes after all. It’s a big, bulky and heavy unit, but has held onto the wall without any problems. It is a bit fiddly to mount onto the wall, the drill holes in the wall unit could be located in an easier place to mark the holes out for drilling, definitely a 2 man job. Once fitted, it is so easy to pull out the hose, and the retractable mechanism works well and ensures there are no kinks.

Had a few different hosepipe reels over the years and so far this is definitely the best (and most expensive!). I bought the 20m as that is big enough for my garden. Once installed it swivels on the wall so you can point it either way. When retracting the hose I guide it carefully back rather than let it get sucked back in quickly and it coils itself nice and evenly around the middle. There is space to store attachments on the reel. It’s a pleasure to use.
Big Beasty
I have a fair old sized garden front and back which I have watered with an old Hozelock wind up for years. But as my in-laws live in an annexe and they are not getting younger, I thought it would be a good idea to make things a little easier when it came to winding time. I deliberated between 30 and 40m, 30 would have made it but I would have been relying on a jet of water to cover the last 10 foot, so not practical. The 40m version was bought and delivered and it’s massive! However, that’s not a bad thing because it removes the mess of unwound hose and extensions that had been used before. Installation is a simple 4 screw affair (there is a screw template printed on the box wings, which is a nice touch). You will need a 7mm drill bit or a 6mm and a wriggle to remove an extra mm. All the hose ends and screws are shipped inside the circular panel of the hose unit, I initially thought that they had been left out! Winding out and winding in is a doddle, but like all hose pipes, it doesn’t enjoy going around corners or passed car tyres. The best way around this is to just walk out how much you need in a straight line, pull any extra you need from that stop point and then walk off watering. Do the same thing when rewinding and you are good to go.

I did have to consult the doctor with chest pains and the bank manager for a loan when I saw the prices but I went ahead. 100 for a hose pipe and abit of plastic!!! but its sturdy enough and the hose does look incredibly thick and robust. After testing it this weekend the retractable mechanism does seem to work very efficiently. Its very easy to install, simply four screws and wall plugs and thats it. Its not easy getting it straight on pebble dash but I managed in the end. It hangs well, its incredibly neat, the 40m one isn’t too bulky and only sticks out 30cm from the wall so I’m very happy. Will it last, will the mechanism continue to work who knows but sofar so good. Admittedly I won’t be able to eat for a month or two but at least my garden isn’t covered with badly coiled hosepipes.

EASY TO ASSEMBLE & GET GOING
The earleir reviews were helpful in identifying areas to look out for – such as internal leaks and the fixing screws. I made sure I had all the correct equipment – in particular an extended posidive screwdriver and 7mm masonary drill bit. I also made sure the internal connection was as tight as possible by turning it a few more times from the manufactured setting. The screw fixings are of a relatively poor steel quality – but with the long posidrive screwdriver I was able to get a good / straight purchase on the screwheads and took it slowly to tighten them up.
The result (so far!) is no leaks and a secure / tight fixing to the wall.
I also bought the ‘pro’ connector for the hose connection to the spray head and that seems to work well.
I am taking it easy to pull out the hose and gently return it and it is working very well.
The 40m hose gives me ample to do the rear garden and pull around to the front of the house for the garden and car washing.
Very pleased with the purchase.
Great Hose reel.
My wife found it difficult to wind in the previous reel so I invested in the hoselock auto reel and have not regretted it as, as the saying goes “It does what it says on the tin.”. The operation of the reel is easy to use, you can pull out as much, or as little as you need and it returns the hose with no problem at all. In all, it is the best hose I have ever owned and with one, small proviso, I would recommend it.
The small problem I have is the fixing to the wall. This hose and reel weigh some 40lbs and supplied is 3 STRAIGHT SCREWS and small rawl plugs. I would recommend that you should use normal TAPERED SCREWS as this would provide a much stronger fixing. This is the only problem with this and really I should have given it 5 stars.
We bought this to replace our old hozelock which was a hand wind up one and we love it no messy hands trying wind it up just rewind’s nice and smoothly with a little tug and no kinks and pulls out just as smoothly we had the 40m hose dont think we really needed it that big the casing is huge and heavy when facing forward/outward it is 2ft /5″ including bracket and pushed back to wall it is depth 28″ and width 2ft/ 2″ so ensure you have a big enough space to fix . I found it it easy to pull out but my wife who has arthritis in her hands says she finds it a little stiff to pull out but she does love it . We found it easy to set up and install . Ensure you have enough space to install, TWO people may be required to fit to wall, disabled may struggle to fit and use especially the large hose, item is heavy and bulky .
Excellent item
Fairly easy to install (follow the comprehensive instructions) but the disc covering the short pipe keeps falling off…. will have to look at that again! Otherwise it is working better than expected and as long as you walk back the hose and don’t just let go of it i a, sure it will last. It is larger than I thought but sits at the side of the house without any problem. It is much more convenient to use. We love it.
I was replacing an old auto reel that had never been the same since a Robin built a nest in it. It was about 10 years old and had been really good up to that point. I have just bought my third 40M Autoreel
I live in a small complex of retirement homes and bought one of these for my own use at least three years ago and it is still going well after all that time. I bought one for my neighbour for a christmas present and have recently purchased another for our gardening club. They are so handy for evening watering of hanging baskets and occasional washing of the car, they are so easy to put away and always look tidy when installed as the hose is inside protected from the Sun. I recently contacted Hozelock with regard to one of their products and cannot praise them enough for their wonderful customer service. If you are thinking of getting one of these, don’t hesitate, just buy it, you won’t be disappointed.

Yet to install and use this as it’s winter but it looks like a good product. Word of warning as I didn’t spot this but the accessories are tucked away in one of the grey, round discs in the system body. The label showing this was not there on my first delivery so I mistakenly returned it.
Great hose, now have two
I bought this hose for the garage so that I can water the front garden and wash the cars. We put a larger one in the back garden in the summer and I was surprised at how much we used it. The winding back of the hose makes it so much easier as that is the worst bit about getting the hose out. No more problems now, it’s just a really quick job.
I’m hoping my teenage son may offer to wash the cars now that there is a hose ready to use!
Convenient, compact and tidy way to store, dispense and auto retract my 20m hose. Worked well. Instructions pretty good and extension to guarantee available at no extra cost. 7mm drill size to fit provided ‘rawplugs made for a snug fit, however screws were impossible to screw in all the way without damaging their slots. Managed to find some other screws to do the job.

We’ve all had experiences with garden hose reels. Come lose on the wall. Hard to wind. Hard to unwind. Bought one of Hozelock 40m Reel as an expensive trial. Now have two and plan a 3rd. Incredibly easy to attach to a brick wall. Do ensure you use the right size drill bit and take plenty of time to measure the holes using the wall mount as a guide. Go buy the right drill bit if you need to. Hose can be pulled off of reel easily. And best of all the hose winds back up easy. I do return the hose to a straightish line in front of the reel before winding it in to stop it catching on wall corners, plants and car tyres. Love the fact its hinged against the wall so you go left or right with the hose. Upgraded my hozelock connectors to the higher grade versions for a few extra pounds. Proof of the pudding will be in a couple of years, but so far totally love these hose reels. Use an old wet cloth to hold the hose as it winds back for perfectly clean hose.

Only dislike was the provided screws. Chose to use larger ones than those provided. The ones it came with would have probably done but preferred a bit bigger ones. The unit was easy to install and i liked the provided template printed on the box to mark the wall for the screw holes. The product is well made and functions as expected. Will bring it indoors for the winter months and store in the garage as it will not be needed. This is made easy as the bracket remains on the wall and the body of the reel can be lifted off once the padlock is removed (if used) removed and the bracket opened It remains to be seen how the unit will perform over the long term.

An absolutely great product! I’ve been keeping my eye on the price to drop for this for a while and managed to get a deal on it, otherwise they are mighty expensive for a hose!
However, if you hate trying to wrap hoses up this is the one for you.
Usual high quality from Hozelock, easy to install thanks to the cardboard drilling guide on the box.
Very happy and I’m sure it will last for many years – it comes with a 5 year guarantee too if you register with Hozelock!

Easy to fit. Didn’t realise all the stuff was tucked behind one of the side panels so used my own screws and rawlplugs which was probably a good idea as some reviews here mention that those supplied aren’t quite up to the job. It takes two people to remove the unit off the wall bracket but the bracket can then be fitted onto the wall by one person and the unit can be fitted back onto the bracket by one person. Early days yet but so far does what I want, it’s great and winds itself up quite nicely. I’ll post back here in a year and let you know how it’s going.
Bought this to replace our old manual winding Hozelock (15m) hose as we really wanted to go beyond the rear garden and have scope to get to the front of the house to wash the car, water the front garden and clean the front patio.
It was pretty straight forward to install (all of the parts are contained under the side cover) and comes supplied with a variable jet spray nozzle (which I replaced with a Hozelock Multi-Spray Ultramax), a short length of tap connection hose, two hose connectors (‘regular’ and ‘water stop’ valve – which I replaced with metal ‘Pro’ versions), a screw tap connector with adaptor (again, replaced with a metal ‘Pro’ version) and 4 x 50mm screws with 7mm wall plugs which – given the weight of this (17kg empty) – looked mismatched and basically not up to the job… but if you drill them tight to the specified 7mm into a good solid wall surface, combined, I found they were absolutely rock solid on our brick wall (drilled through the brick, not the mortar).
To use, it takes a few goes to get used to the ‘locking to the length you want’ and ‘rewinding’ procedures but you start to feel how it works and then it’s easy. The mechanism winds the hose in and distributes it evenly on the enclosed reel as it does so. It’s pretty clever in that regard. And of course, the whole unit is detachable from the wall bracket (lockable with a padlock) so that it can be stored during the cold months (which is highly recommended to extend the life of the unit). The hose itself is Hozelock’s finest ‘Ultramax’ and… well, time will tell… but I expect it will outlast the lifetime of the unit if looked after.
Downsides? Well… firstly, it’s [neccessarily] big and quite heavy… so make sure you know what you’re letting yourself in for in that regard. Having said that, once it’s installed and folded against the wall, the size of it oddly disappears and it just becomes another bit of plastic garden kit. Second, it’s easy to be put off by the supplied screws and wall plugs. They really don’t look like they will hold it up and having read some reviews on here, they haven’t… but I feel this may be an installation issue. Make sure you mount it on a good wall, drill accurately and to instruction and you’ll be fine. Get your own beefier anchors if it inspires more confidence in the product, but in my view, that won’t be neccessary for most applications. Third, the shape of the wall bracket won’t allow for some electric screwdrivers or drill screwdriving to be used without risk of wrecking the screwheads. I used a 12″ long ‘old school’ ‘Pozidrive’ screwdriver and screwed them in manually but it was hard work! And then lastly, ours leaks a little bit… somewhere within the casing that I can’t really get to without voiding the warranty probably… but again, it’s not a real deal-breaker as it’s not a lot and it is mounted above our perimeter grille drain so it’s dealt with. I’ll keep an eye on this because if it really starts to wee over the next few months, I’ll probably hassle Hozelock for a replacement.
Other than that, It’s excellent and a joy to use. Highly recommended.

Okay, so it’s been a week and a bit… and it has started to properly leak internally. I would’ve tolerated it if the leak continued to be a dribble as the hose retraction still worked perfectly and water pressure was still good… but it’s turned into a fountain at the Auto Reel end so I’ve requested a replacement from Amazon, who’s legendary customer support was again, superb (Hozelock’s support phoneline incidently, is constantly engaged). New one arrives tomorrow. Hopefully, leak-free. Will keep you updated.

Looking for a new house for a little while but never quite got round to deciding which to go for. Saw the Hozelock 40m auto return on Amazon and realised I would need the longer hose to reach from the back to the front of the house. It arrived in timely fashion and I had somewhat underestimated the weight of 40 metres of quality hose! The kit includes a template for the mounting holes with screws and plastic plugs, albeit the latter are on the small side for such a weighty item . The bracket supplied makes for easy “lift on” of the main hose box which properly mounted provides 180 degree rotation. This is a quality product and I would not hesitate to recommend it particularly the auto rewind version with the longest length version.
I wasn’t sure about spending the extra on the automatic reel but it was well worth it my old reel was a manual wind up and it was a pain.
I had heard mixed reviews about hozelock products but this one is worth a purchase, the autoreel functionality is intuitive and so far works flawlessly.
This product is an actual godsend, if you struggle reeling in your hose ….. buy this now!
How did I do all the flower bed watering before without one of these!!……… However, the product is flawed as the material used on the outer structure is clearly unsuitable for the purpose as the two disk like side panels have become so distorted that they fall out even in the slightest wind and cannot easily be relocated in there intended fitting positions….. Incidentally this product is not exposed to any sunlight it is always in the shade which made the problem even more surprising. I didn’t want to have to decouple the bulky item from the wall and return it. So, I decided it was repairable if I screwed 10off shallow self tapping screws about the periphery of the finishing disks located on each side so as not to interfere with the inner workings…. Not the happiest but the problem is solved!!

Makes life easie
Great piece of kit. Makes watering the garden an easy task. I bought this for my 87 year old dad. Now he can water his garden without getting the hose all knotted up and use with very little effort. This is really heavy (hopefully making it robust) so he couldn’t fit it but my hubby fitted with no probs. It came very well packaged.
Hozelock Auto Rewind 40 m Hose Reel with Connectors and Fittings – Colour May Vary
This is simply the best hosepipe I’ve ever used. Forget the cheaper alternatives and stupid coiled things that you get in the sunday papers. This hose really is easy to use and very sturdy. It’s so nice to have it neat and tidy and no kinks, leaks or even dribbles! Love the fact they’ve changed the branding to grey too as makes it a much more modern feature. Easy to put together and has a great auto lock which means that the hose stays as long as you want it to, and then with a quick tug, it puts itself away!
Excellent hose – large and heavy, of course, but once mounted on the wall a delight to use. Extends easily enough when you get the knack of pulling out a bit more than you need and letting the ratchet lock it at that length, and easy to retract when the time comes. Hopefully this will lead to a lot less tangles and a tidier garden overall.
Comes with fittings, but I’d recommend adding Hozelock Pro metal fittings for the ends – I had them on the old hose and they’re very sturdy and much less prone to leaks and drips.
Good to have a retractable hose 40 metres long which reaches most of my garden without having to add bits of other hose to reach distant areas or work with watering cans. The retracting mechanism is much smoother than previous 20 metre Hozelock Auto Reels I have had as is the temporary and permanent hose lock. My only negative comment is that water pressure through the hose suffers if a lot of hose remains coiled inside the reel. Otherwise I have no complaints.

Bought this for a very large garden where the last hose was filthy and sticky from age. It works really well and is a pleasure to use. No more fighting with the hose, just grab and walk to where you need it and then when done feed it back in. Perfect!

bought it to replace a self wind version by the same company which gave up the ghost after about 5 years. it’s a bit of a monster, but it is the 40m version, also would’ve liked a fixing template to save a little time in mounting the reel.
however now its up it performs extremely well . it’s light to manoeuvre whilst deploying and as for the self rewind its fantastic- well worth the extra money (little to chose from in comparison to the 30m version) would suit someone less able or someone who finds gardening more difficult with advancing years
Very good - usually able to deliver water to any part of the garden quickly.
I was a little dubious about this hose reel having read some previous unfavourable reports. There has been no sign of leaking so far. The spring release and retraction mechanism is usually very efficient although it has stuck on one or two occasions. It takes a degree of effort to pull the hose from the reel – I find it is best to do this with both hands close to the reel then move the released hose to the point of use rather than just pull it out, which is quite hard on the muscles!
I am pleased with the hose which, so long as it proves durable, will be worth the considerable outlay.
Easy to use
I suffer with lower back problems and bought the auto rewind hose reel to make life easier. Following the instructions we found it easy to fit on a wall with the enclosed fittings. We liked the fact you could lock it with a padlock – good to deter the opportunist thief. The rewind mechanism feels quite robust and as a consequence it probably wouldn’t suit someone frail as you need a bit of strength to pull the hose out. The hose appears to be good quality which we hope will last a long time. We bought the 40m version but compared to our previous 30m manual rewind hose we found the water pressure dropped a bit due to the increased length, so bear this in mind. Rewinding is a doddle – you give it a tug and it automatically rewinds the hose for you. It’s very neat, you can swivel it 180 degrees, it does what it says.
Overall we are very pleased with the purchase and would recommend this hose reel.
Arrived promptly, well packaged and with clear, almost idiot proof assembly (minor) and installation instructions. We excelled ourselves, read the instructions (failure to do so in the past has been our downfall). I say ‘we’ as I do the easy bit doing all the graft whilst my wife has the arduous task of watching from the nearest garden bench, issuing edicts intermingled with sarcastic remarks, tut-tutting and eyebrow raising.
But back to the story, it did not take very long at all to securely affix the Hose Reel to the wall next to the outside water supply. As it pivots and can be folded back when not in use, parallel to the wall, it is much tidier looking than our previous reel which protruded at a 90 degree right-angle.
It seems sturdy, well made and performs very efficiently. and we hope will stand the rigours of outdoor life and give many years of good, trouble free service. So far very pleased with our purchase.
I have had Hozelock reels for more than 30 years but due to arthritic joints have found rewinding the hose more difficult recently.So after much consideration we decided on the Auto Rewind with the 40m option.It was quick and easy to fix [even though we are VERY old] and really has made a wonderful difference to watering the garden and washing the car.The design is neat and folds flat against the wall when not in use,the ability to use the hose from either side takes away the hard work of moving the floor standing reel away.When we researched comments before our purchase we noted that some people had remarked on the too short hose for connection to the outside tap via the body of the reel,I find this quite strange as the hose is in fact of a very adequate length.All in all a brilliant buy and I hope it gives us as many years of use as our previous Hozelock reels in the past.
