    It’s okay
Have an area of the garden which gets flooded whenever it rains heavily. This pump will definitely need a wider diameter hose, as it really cannot cope with rainwater rising quickly, as it cannot pump it out fast enough. So my advice is not to get a garden type of hose, but something with a wider diameter, which is what I have done. I have ordered a wider hose and will update this review the next time I need to use the pump.

How to fit a 15mm Hose
    Fitting 15mm hose
The pump works fine but not in very shallow water for shallow water I put it in a tub and scoop water in to the tub or use a small bilge pump
Fitting a 15mm hose is difficult. Many reviews have said it can’t be done and people have bought 19mm hose.
To fit the hose you need heat it in hot water (near boiling, please be careful) and then insert a wide object to expand it. I used the handle of some pliers.

You then need to put it on the multi-adaptor and screw the connector tight. Don’t forget to put the grey locking cap on the hose first before placing the hose on the adapter.

    Excellent pump and flow rate
I bought this because my garden flooded. The multi-hose adapter that comes with it doesn’t really work with ordinary 1/2″ hose. Dip the end in hot water first to soften it. I have bought a 40mm corrugated pipe and that works far better. It is quite tall but seems to work ok. Having deepened my soakaway and installed some French drains, now it’s down to the commissioning phase.

You need to supply the reducer.
You supply an item which needs a peace of reducer from 20mm to 15mm clearly shown on the box but don’t tell about it when it is purchased and also you can’t get the reducer needed I had to impravise and make something in that respect I don’t rate the supplie

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersMake sure you have the right hose size....
Bought the product largely due to it being Hozelock brand and assumed (wrongly) that it would be immediately compatible with my existing Hozelock hosepipe system.
As it happens to work with the standard 12.5mm hose you have a chop down the adaptor piece, something I wasn’t too confident in doing as the instructions are far from clear so I ended up buying an additional 19mm length of hose. Once this turned up I fitted it to the pump using the connector provided and then you literally plug it and and place it in the pool you want pumping and away it goes. Emptied my hot tub within about an hour with a good flow rate.

    Amazing once all air removed
This is an efficient pump, but only when you have eliminated all the air. Check out how to prime the unit before using it. The instructions don’t even mention this. Hozelock show a video of this on website. If still doesn’t pump properly, tilt unit on side under water to allow existing air to escape and shake tilt switch to change its position. Switch needs to be vertical to work, horizontal to stop. Highly recommend for watering plants and no need for watering cans!

Great value compared with hire costs
Easy to set up and pumps at a fair rate. Garden constantly floods pending work to be done. Up to 9 inches during recent storms. Clears whole garden in 2 hours. Best to create a small dip in order to drain to the lowest point.

    good little pump
Good little pump, trouble is only used three times then pump stopped working. While it was working great but works out expensive. I would recommend this product mine could be a one off. Local machine hire doing repair not worth returning.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersA handy pump for a household
The pump is robust and quite powerful, and comes with generous 10m power cable. The change over from pumping dirty water to clear water is easy. The only downside is, when you use it to pump water from a puddle (i.e. when the pump is not fully submerged in water), you need to prime the pump by filling it with water right up to the top.

Great pump a little to expensive compared to other pumps on the marke
Great pump but you need a Hozelock 2158 connector if you want to use your hozelock pipe system to move water. Once connected up I was moving 400 lts per hour to my storage tanks over 70 meters from water butts. Pump very easy to use with auto cut of once water runs low.

Great little pump that outperforms it’s looks...
This is a really simple piece of kit to use for pumping out minor floods or garden ponds. All you have to do is connect a hose (you’ll have to buy that or an adapter), plug it into the mains and drop it into whatever you want to pump out. It does have a filter, so will cope with bits of detritus as floodwater in particular can come with it’s own murky garbage. Once you’ve finished all you have to do is wipe it down and you’re good to go for the next time you need it. It copes really well and quickly with minor floods and garden ponds. I was sceptical with the all plastic construction that it would be robust enough to cope, but after having used it a couple of times to drain the pond and a ditch to the side of the house that seems to need draining every couple of months I’m happy enough that it’s well made and is definitely robust enough.

    An excellent versatile pump
I have a problem with part of my garden flooding from a “blind” ditch (just a linear pond really). It’s a seasonal thing – but happens on a fairly regular basis. I have previously used another brand of pump to get the water out and into a proper watercourse. This is, I have to say, much more effective. It worked flawlessly – connected my outlet hose to it, popped it into the ditch and switched on. The water was dispatched quickly and without a hitch.

Not the cheapest pump of this kind, but it is well made and effective so I think it is very good value.

    Sturdy and Effective
This pump is well constructed and can shift a lot of water very quickly. It needs to house adapters if you are planning to use your standard hose and it would have been nice if these were included. I’ve been using it to drain some deep water butts and pump the water elsewhere, next summer it should work well to water parts of the garden too far for the hose to reach.

Its much easier to use this pump than filling buckets by hand and it is easy to clean so not too much effort to set up and get going. If you wanted or needed to drain a basement or a pond its a pretty good tool to use, although I have not tested it as such. Recommended.

    Pond Life...
I got this a couple of months after I had spent a few hours emptying the garden pond…bucket by bucket, and then tupperware box by tupperware box until it was empty. I had a short trail run with this to check that I would be saving myself time and back strain next time. The pump seemed to handle the job well….bit of a fiddle to attach my hose to the pump end..but we got there. Hoping next time round emptying the pond will be a breeze. Not sure how it will cope with sunken leaves and pest that is duck weed…but we shall see.
No trouble getting the pump to start..I was really unsure about electricity and water getting on…but all ok.

Good quality for mid range jobs
This is a step up from the typical Hozelock products most people will be familiar with. Hozelock is ubiquitous and probably most well known for 1/2″/12mm garden hose, reels and fittings, but this pump is so high flow that 12mm pipe isn’t even an option and would create a severe back pressure if you tried to adapt down to it.

It’s fairly robustly made, though primarily plastic. If I wanted something to use on a site, and knew other people would be using it, I’d invariably go for something heavier that can take a bit of battering. If you’re only going to be using it yourself and typically for your own pond or swimming pool then it would be ideal.

Definitely a handy piece of kit to have around the house if you have water features or there’s a risk of flooding.

    Powerful pump
This product was tested by filling a big bucket with water and trying to pump it out. There’s a float attached to the side of the pump that must be submerged for it to work. The pump is very good and powerful. The bucket was emptied in seconds. I think this product would be great for a flooded basement. One drawback is that a normal hose is too small so if you wanted to operate it with a hose it seems you need to buy one.

    Water be gone!
Its no woose this pump. Its a hefty piece of water removing kit.

For one there is enough electric cable, about flipping time, but the connector does not fit a standard hose fitting. Dang.

But it emptied our pond quickly and thats the main thing.

Always be wary whilst near warer, electricity and water dont mix. Zap!

    Dirty or clean water pump
As you would expect from the brand, this is a robustly constructed pump, which is around the size of a small pressure washer. It requires some minor self-assembly before use and is set up to pump clean water on arrival; some modifications are necessary before you pump dirty water, which are explained in the brief instructions and easy enough to follow.

It has a maximum recommended run time of 2 hours and should not be left unsupervised — you need to avoid it running dry or over-heating. I have tested this out in my garden pond, which has always been a back-breaking job to empty out for cleaning (such as when I made the futile attempt to remove duck weed). It worked as expected for the short time I allowed it to run and should make the job much easier in the Spring when it is time to do a complete empty out again.

There are some cautions that it should not be used on swimming pools, salt water, corrosive products, explosives (!) or food related liquids. Otherwise, fill your boot with dirty or clean water.

    Dead easy to use
This is an extremely simple and straightforward piece of kit to use. All of my hoses are 15mm diameter so a little bit of cutting down of the multi stage nozzle was required (plus buying an additional screw-fit adapter – there isn’t one included as standard so watch out for that. Once that was done everything was ready. Simply lower into the tank, pond or whatever that needs draining, ensure the float switch is either floating or attached as required, connect the hose and power and you are away. I’ve teamed mine with a diesel generator to pump out drainage ditches around the fields and it has proved very easy to use. No maintenance, just a wash off to clean after use and put away.

Excellenty for emptying your baptistry or garden pond
I discovered this when looking for a way of emptying our church baptistry, but it works just as well in a garden pond. Basically you just plug this into the mains and drop it into the water (it may feel like you are throwing a toaster into a bathtub- but it is totally safe!) This is an efficient water pump and it makes light work out of emptying big tubs of water. It is easy to clean afterwards (if you are moving dirty water) and requires no routine maintenance, simply dry and put away in its box. This is so much better than carrying bucket after bucket and coming back for more – this device moves all your water efficiently and quickly. This has revolutionised the way we empty our baptistry so whatever your water movement need this will work for you too! Great product!
