Wanted both a waste bin and a recycling bin but have a compact kitchen. This does the job splendidly, and looks good too, matches the colour of our kitchen units. May have gone for the larger bin in retrospect but then it has been Christmas and we have had all the family staying with us!

Utterly beautiful and well made. It gets compliments from people visiting. So easy to use. My family actually put stuff in it!!!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMy wife thought I was insane to be drooling over the stacked, shiny neatness of this bin, but we had a serious discussion about it and I said, “Look, it’s shiny – and inside, it’s orange!” To which she replied, in an almost caressing whisper, “Whatever you want, darling.”

Since then, this bin has brought us nothing but delight. It sits there and looks nice, and it doesn’t smell. The little 5L corner-thing for the organic/compostable waste is just so… thoughtful, I wish I could hug Messrs. Joseph and Joseph: it even has a little hole in the hook that clips it to the big, square, main bin through which the excess liner can be pulled.

And every other inner bin corner is missing – thoughtfully cut off so that you can lift it out with zero frustration.

How often we have sat around in the evenings, wondering what life would have been like without it; no doubt, foetid and untidy.

Yes, we could have bought a couple of sheep for the same money, but this bin is worth its weight.

    Highly recommended.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI wanted a bin that I could separate out our recycling from rubbish and food waste but would also look stylish and neat in our kitchen. This is that bin. It’s beautiful and not too big. I love the drawer on wheels underneath and I can pull it out and take the recycling outside easily. The food waste container hooks onto the side of the top bin and you can take it out and have it on the worktop for convenience when you are chopping vegetables. And the rubbish bin part is 1 touch to open. You can use the manufacturers bin bags but I use the usual ones from the supermarket. There are no edges of bin bags spilling over spoiling this look and it looks perfect in my kitchen. It’s very expensive, but I hope it’ll last me years and years.

Looks smart, reduces clutter, saves space. Look out for discounts e.g. prime day. Only wish food caddy was slightly bigger.

I was unsure on getting this bin as it is very expensive. But we didn’t want a wide bin and wanted two sections. I’m very happy with it. Not sure if it’s worth the price but I guess you get what you pay for. I think it’s good.

I looked at various options before choosing this bin as it is in the higher price bracket. Have purchased many JJ items and have found them to be of better quality and functionality than other makes of kitchen items. This bin is no exception. It looks good and holds all items as required. I particularly like that it has removeable compartments so is easy to clean. It is pricey hence 4 stars for that aspect but I have seen others for comparison and in the end it was worth the extra.

Super impressed with this bin. Very well designed and holds a lot more than I thought it would. Recycling drawer slides in and out very easy and the refuse bin open and close function is seamless. Very easy to wipe down which makes a change from stainless steel bins which streak.

Absolute unit of a bin. As bins go this is the pinnacle of home waste disposal. Bit pricy, but worth it for an excellent kitchen conversation starter at future social events.

It’s a bit pricey for a bin, I know. But honestly it’s worth it. I feel as though sorting the rubbish isn’t as much as a hassle. It’s got a large open lid so you don’t really get the bin as dirty. The food compost bin is really great and prevents smells. I use the bottom compartment for glass plastic and tins and as long as you rinse them out it doesn’t smell.

  17. Anonymous says:

As a single person I’ve found most bins are just too big and they start to smell long before they need emptying. The 40L version of this bin however is the perfect size for me. The little food caddy gets emptied every 2 to 3 days and the waste & recycling sections can last a week or more.

The only small downside is the rather expensive liners, but if you’re not overly fussed at having a perfect fit, then I’ve found cheap swing bin and caddy liners from Home Bargains work just fine.

I love this bin, large top opening for easy access, the one underneath just glides in and out which I use for recycling, the removable inner containers are really handy for transporting to the bin and so far I’ve used to same bag for the recycling part. It’s great that it’s one on top of the other so it doesn’t take up lots of space, never thought I’d spend this much on a bin but it’s so worth it and I got my graphite one on offer so even better.

If you need to put a bin out in the open then it ideally should look good – and this one does. A neat design means it’s not taking up loads of space but it holds a reasonable amount. We use the small caddy for saving coffee pods for recyling and it holds a lot! Easy to clean and easy to slide or pull out the sections for emptying. Very happy with i

I’ve been looking at a way to help filter out garbage and it’s really helped with that. It’s quite a good looking filing cabinet like bin. Haha but it does feel quite solid and though it’s expensive for our small kitchen worked really well just wished it had more capacity and maybe a bigger food bin!!

  24. DemiMeredith says:

     United Kingdom

Definitely a very functional bin and controls odour very well. Capacity is pretty good too, definitely encourages to recycle more.

Price-wise I do think it’s still quite expensive for a bin, but managed to get mine during Christmas offers for under 85.

If price isn’t a big deal, but you’re looking for a modern, functional and most importantly odour controlling bin, then definitely go for this. You seriously cannot smell once the lid is closed. Really impressive

I’m so glad we just went for it! Was unsure having seen a few negative reviews but to me this is fab. The 40L is perfect for our household of 2 and it looks really well for a bin.

  26. Anonymous says:

This bin is ideal for a household of 2 people. We use it for general rubbish at the top and food waste at the bottom. It means that we don’t need a separate food caddy. Each bin has an insert which can be removed for cleaning and changing the bag. We don’t really use the small food waste insert, but this would be useful if the bottom section was used for general recycling.

Buy it! I know it’s expensive & it’s just a bin but it’s the type of bin your smile at when you use it because it’s looks amazing. I won’t tell hubby how much it was as don’t want to upset him but for a item you use every day it’s worth it ….. if your still unsure wait till sales or Black Friday to grab a bargain ( ps the clear recycle bags from Lidil fit the compartment) Enjoy 🙂

You might think it’s quite hard to get excited about a bin…well you’ve obviously not got a Joseph Joseph totem!
This is quite simply the best bin ever.
I had a bin that had two compartments side by side, to allow me to separate recycling and normal waste, as well as a separate food waste bin.
Buying the totem has allowed me to replace these bins, while increasing my waste capacity and using less floor space.
There is masses of space in these bins, but due to the vertical nature of them they don’t take up much room.
The food waste caddy is a bit on the small side, however I actually quite like this, as it encourages me to empty it more frequently and avoid having a smelly bag of rotten food in the bin for days.
The bins are really easy to take out to empty or to clean.
Everything about the bin feels quality and it comes with a 10 year warranty.
The price of this item is high, I managed to get it on a prime week deal for about 105. However you can pay 150 or more for these.
I would normally potentially mark an item down in a review for a high price point and while I do feel 150 is a lot of money for a bin this bin is the best. And sometime you get what you pay for, so if you can afford it, or can get a decent deal then buy it and then you can feel excited about bins!

  30. Anonymous says:

     United Kingdom

Let’s begin with the price… at first sight this is a ridiculous price for a bin, having had it a few weeks now I’d pay it twice over.

This is an incredibly well designed and manufactured item. Every aspect is spot on, easy to use, sturdy and looks the part.

The main ‘tubs’ can use either one big bag or two smaller to divide them up, appropriate anchor slots are provided. Within the top tub is a decent size food waste bin that has an opening that is the width of a typical plate – really useful.

This brand always nails the tiny details that matter and in this case, the tubs are shaped to allow easy lift out removal, there is no obstructions in the path of the tubs and bags you may remove – none of those stupid metal handles to rip your bags

Never did I think a bin would bring me such pleasure!

Excellent bin and good size. I use the top section as a general rubbish bin. I went from one tall 30L bin to this and I think this takes more rubbish. I use the bottom section to store my dogs dried food bags and treats. This work very well for me as I have a small kitchen everything is out of the way. The lower section wheels out easily so gives full acces.

I bought this specifically as I had trouble with the smells from my last bin and cat waste disposal. As a person living alone it was small enough so I can empty it regularly without wasting huge bin bags but it also kept the smells in. The recycling compartment is useful and I can avoid having 2 bins which is great in a small flat. As my council doesn’t do composting I removed the mini container and use it for storing cleaning sponges 🙂

We really needed something to tidy the recycling area in the kitchen. This looks great and has good capacity. I like the bottom section which has wheels and slides out. The lift out baskets are useful. Overall it is such a help and has transformed that part of the kitchen. It is expensive for a bin, but I am so glad I bought it. (I bought it in Amazon sale so was 114.)

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersPros:

    * Combining two bins into one saves precious floorspace in my small kitchen
    * The odour filter seems to help reduce smells and vent the bin to prevent humidity buildup
    * The removable inserts are handy. They come out easily and they’re pretty strong
    * The bins are a good size & shape for most household waste – meaning you can fit more in. e.g. A4 sheets will lay flat in the recycling bin
    * A full bin bag fits snuggly in my wheelie bin. I can fit more rubbish in there than with my old peddle bin

    Cons:

    * Having the food waste slot inside the main bin is a bad idea. When you take it out, the rubbish around it shifts and then you need to paw around inside the bin to put it back. As the caddy is quite deep, the bin doesn’t even need to be half full before this becomes a problem. JJ’s suggestion that you can just take it out and plonk it on your worktop (presumably coated in all kinds of bin juice if you keep it in the top compartment) and then gently nestle it back inside plainly doesn’t really match with reality.
    * The Joseph Joseph bin liners are currently approx 20x the price of the equivalent generic bin liners. Crazy. Either fork over the money, or deal with slightly ill-fitting bags. I opted for the latter

    Overall:

The pros comfortably outweigh the cons, just a shame the food waste part of the bin isn’t as well thought out as the rest.

Was a bit dubious about buying this bin against a Morphy Richards sensor bin. I felt both were expensive considering you’re just putting rubbish in them. Changing because I wanted to replace the 2 bins I was currently using for waste separation with a single unit. Reviews on the the battery and lid opening capacity on the Morphy Richards sensor bin led me to pay a little more for the Joseph Joseph totem 60ltr and I love it (so far). Composter gets in the way of the upper bin capacity but I’ve removed this and just keep it in a kitchen unit under the sink. Lower unit pulls in and out smoothly and seems like capacity is good … I’m a single person so don’t have a lot of household waste but it looks good and hopefully, price will reflect quality and life span.

Absolutely love this bin. Have wanted it for ages but didn’t particularly like the high price tag so jumped on it when Amazon had their deal on.
Only minus is the food bin is quite small and needs changing a lot and there is only 2 of us..plus side to that is food isn’t left to go smelly.
Love my new bin and it encourages you to recycle so much more.

Quick and easy Amazon delivery. I went for the Graphite Totum Max 60 L.The box is heavy but can be moved by one person. Inside the box, you get the carbon filter, two bin bags and two caddy bags which you can compare with other non branded bags for size. The food caddy can be placed anywhere in the bin or on countertop.

I like the push opening and that there is no sensor or batteries to worry about. The bottom ‘recycling bin’ is a blessing as there is no need for a separate recycling bin. The main part is on wheels which moves in and out easily and the orange insert can be taken to the wheelie bin.

Overall a great bin, worth the money. Does the job well so hopefully this will be my last bin.

Great size and no more smelly bin!

Love this waste solution. All in one place. Plenty of room for all the different types of waste. Easy to keep clean. We got the stone colour and it is fine – just looks neutral. Watch the video to see what it is like.
I made the mistake of not checking dimensions properly. It is more than 30cm. The hinge and button for releasing the lid add another few cm.
There is no smell thanks to the filter (it lasts well).
The custom made bags are dear but you can just sue your own. There are hooks for different sized bags.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is the most perfect bin. As a 48 year old woman I’ve had many bins in my life, mostly has bins but that’s another story.
I researched long and hard and thought very carefully about parting with a substantial amount of cash for a bin but since Jojo ( that’s my bins name) has arrived in my life it has brought me nothing but joy! Every time I look at it I’m filled with happiness. It’s not too big, it’s not too small, it functions beautifully! It holds normal size bin bags and it doesn’t smell like some of my ex bins.
I would recommend this bin to anyone!

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersPricey but well worth it. Well made, easy to clean, looks great and quick delivery. I went for the 40 litre that comprises of 2 x 20 litre bins and a small food bin. Perfect size for my household for a family of 3. I use the top bin for general waste and bottom for recycling. I don’t like bins that have a large capacity as I find the bin begins to smell before I fill it and therefore needs taking out. With this bin it’s the perfect size and yes I’m taking the rubbish out more but that means there are no smells lingering in my kitchen. Also worth noting there is an odour filter built into the lid which is a nice touch. Wish I had purchased this years ago instead of wasting money on other cheaper bins.

Ridiculous price for a bin lol but I do like it. It looks lovely in my kitchen. I heard bad things about comparable sensor bins so I went for this one which easily flicks open using the lever for general waste compartment at the top. I put two carrier bags in the lower pull out compartment so I can separate plastics and paper which means it does not hold alot in each so I have to empty regularly which isn’t too big a deal. Vast improvement on having piles of recycling on my worktop

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersI live my new kitchen bin, so far had no problems with it. Family of 2 adults and got the 60ltr bin. Thought it would be too big but its perfect. I use normal council food waste bags, wee bit big but just wrap it round at back of container. I use 50 ltr drawstring wilko bag for normal rubbish and use bottom drawer for my recycle paper jars etc. I empty food waste every 2 -3 days and normal waste 1 -2 times a week depending on items used

It looks good and hold a lo

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersYes, it’s expensive. But boy is it worth it. The ease of use, the quality of build, it’s smooth, quiet operation – and the quality of the bags you get to go with it – plus it’s the neatest bin that doesn’t overwhelm my very small kitchen,
make it a great piece of kit. The bags are expensive – but I use the bottom compartment for dry recyclables so I
use and re-use one again and again. The food waste bags are biodegradable – so no wrapping it dirty newspapers.
    An all round star!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our Usersworks perfectly for me however I’m a household of one may be a bit small for a family. Food caddy works well however could be a bit bigger but then you sacrifice more space in the bin but like that the lid rests on the edge of the bin so you don’t have to put it on the work surface. Lovely bin but not worth the original price, I got it in the Black Friday sale so got it for a good price my advice would be to hold out for a good deal.

Our new house has a small kitchen with no spare floor area & all cupboards are utilised. Only solution was to find a bin to stand just outside the open kitchen, but looking a part of the furnishings. Normally all bins are stainless steel or white, but furnishings have a grey overtone & this bin was perfect. It blends in with colour, fits just right into a corner & most importantly, doesn’t stand out! Very functional with 2 separate compartments that are one above the other (so a small “footprint”), also very easy to keep clean. Does not look out of place!

We purchased this kitchen bin as our recycling was often left on the worktop ready to go in the outside bin, but now we have this bin, our recycling goes straight in the bin and out of sight. The orange inserts hold much more than you’d think, and they’re so easy to pull out and empty. It’s quite pricey for a bin but well worth it if you’re a keen recycler.

found the bin a bit bigger than expected , but it suits my needs being able to do recycling all in one place , A tip for all who have bought or thinking of buying . I would not replace the filter in the bin lid with the ones from the manufacturer , they are far too expensive . I bought a charcoal cut to size cooker hood filter and have managed to get 34 filters out of hood filter , also b&m do small food waste bags that fit the internal compost bin . and the other bins i will use black bin liners and i have made two elastic straps to keep them in place . the charge for manufacturers bags and filters is ridiculous .

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersWe bought this bin to replace the 3 seperate recycling bins that were making our kitchen untidy. It is larger than most kitchen bins but so convenient. The food recycling part is rather small, but very easy to lift out and empty. Each of the three sections all have plastic lift out liners. Very easy to clean. The bottom section pulls out on wheels which run very smoothly. The top lid has a replacable filter to stop smells. All in all very pleased with it.

  55. RozellaBrobst says:

Golden Review Award: 65 From Our UsersI was overwhelmed by the size of this bin when it arrived, but assumed most of it would be packaging. I was wrong! The bin is generously sized and quite stable and solid. It comes pre-built, so no building or fiddling around with fittings. The stone colour is more of a cream in colour, and whilst it is very smart, I worry that it may look like it was meant to be white. Colour, in the end is down to preference and kitchen design so each to their own.

I was impressed with the compartment sizes — they are suitable for a weeks waste for me and my partner. There is a nice neat area for the compostable waste too, which can be moved around to suit your preference. The drawers are smooth, fluid and easy to pull out, however, the handle on the bottom compartment is hindered by the inner orange bin, this could be trickier to maneuver and manage for those with larger fingers.

The height of the bin is suitable which prevents having to bend over all of the time. I prefer to have the recycling waste in the bottom drawer as it was easier for me to navigate and remove; with the general waste and compost in the top section, we were able to make more use of the filter in the lid — which kept the whole thing very fresh.

Included with the bin are a pack of trial bags and a filter to use, which is great to get you started. Whilst “normal” bin bags will suffice, they do not fit quite as well (surprise surprise) as the ones designed for them. The bin has marking inside should you forget which types of bags you will require; the suitable bags and filters are as follows:
    * IW6 30-Litre General Waste Liners – Pack of 20 (Amazon product-code: B07PT7VL7Y).
    * IW2 4-Litre Compostable Bags – Pack of 40 (Amazon product-code: B00UYAN0DA).
    * Carbon Filter – Pack of 2 (Amazon product-code: B00UYAMYT6).
Depending how quickly you go through bags, the cost to maintain using this bin with genuine parts, could get quite costly.

All in all, it’s a great bin, as great as a bin can be — and if you’re looking to treat yourself to a stylish, good use of space bin — I would say it’s worth the money in the long run.
