The harness is very comfortable for our whippet to wear, keeps him secure in the car and he cannot wait to have it fitted so he can go out in the car. We have no need to use it when taking him just fora walk,he wears a whippet collar attached to his lead
What a brilliant Harness it fits my dog perfectly ,so easy to use and he actually sits still in the car an A1 produc
This is used both as a car harness and as a walking harness. It is easy to fit and secures the dog on the back seat of the car using the isofix points.
Works well & our dog enjoys his time in the car now. Would recommend.
Th advantage of this harness is that it is safety tested for the car and can also double as a walking harness. Once you have got it set up it is easy to put on and take off. I don’t find the front no pull ring that helpful because it just pulls the harness out of shape and that makes it awkward for my dog to forge ahead. So in the moment it works but not for a longer walk. You can clip a seat belt attachment to the harness using the the back buckle (or use the seat belt attachment) and you can clip the lead to a triangular buckle at the top of the harness that allows lead walking with good control of the dog. This harness is cheaper than the other safety tested alternatives and in my view is more practical because it doubles up for walking.
I was traveling with my dog Capone in the back seat in the Kurgo harness when somebody blew a red light and hit us from the front, passenger side. My airbag deployed and the car was totaled, so — not a fender bender. I was shaken up and had a minor concussion. Capone, on the other hand, was unfazed. The harness kept him in his seat and he was completely unhurt. He wasn’t even scared. He was just excited that somebody he had never met was opening the door. In fact, he had the time of his life getting attention from so many first responders!
After the accident the harness had a minor tear where the chest guard meets the neck strap, so I will be replacing it for safety, but folks – the car was t-boned. I don’t mind spending another $30 – $40 dollars to get another harness after such a crash. I just wish getting another car was that easy 😉
The only mark-down I gave the harness is that it is not easy to use. It has a very high learning curve, the buckles are the weirdest I’ve ever seen and they are hard to get closed, even with practice. But that’s because they are designed for crashes, not for ease of use. Click to release buckles are a major weak point with most harnesses, so I’ll put up with the hassle for the safety tradeoff.
We’ve used a kurgo crash-tested harness from day one with our puppy. She’s grown out of the extra small at 7 months so it was time to size up! These harnesses are incredibly adjustable, their only downside is their lack of colors and the adjustability of the chest piece length, our poor puppy got some armpit chafing.
Though the extra small and small look very similar, the small has more room to grown and fits better in the armpits.
We use this as a walking harness as well and we love using the front d-ring, it stops her from pulling! We don’t bring her anywhere without this harness, no matter how amazing at driving you are, there’s a lot of people out there who shouldn’t even be on the road.
We paired it with a dog booster seat to keep her more comfortably contained while we’re driving on longer trips. This harness is amazing and very good value of you catch it on sale! I’m selling the extra small because it still looks like new!
Been looking for a crash tested harness that didn’t cost the earth. These are lovely and sturdy, fit well and once you have the knack of the right way to release the clip are super easy to get on and off!
I like that it’s adjustable at neck and waist. I managed to get it to fit my border collie. Great for car journies and walking. I doubt the carabeiner is as comfortable as other more expensive harnesses where the seat belt passes through the loop on the harness. We think this is exceptional quality and happy with purchase.
Fits very well, highly recommend, great walking harness and great for the car. However our dog chewed through the seatbelt and cost us 800 to replace. Really it’s just a good walking harness as I don’t trust my dog in the back seat with being hooked up to the seatbelt.
I changed my review from 2 stars to 4 stars because the harness is very good quality and I will purchase one for my larger 45 lb dog, but it did not work out for my small, short legged, long back dog who wiggled out of it while I was driving.
I thought this would work out great at first. It seemed to fit for my long backed dog. Beagle/Dachshund/? mix. She is 20 lb with a 12.75″ neck and 20″ girth. I believe the distance from the neck strap to the girth strap is too short for her and with short legs she can pull and wiggle out.
When I first walked her in it she was ok, but it does move a bit and I think it pinched her and she refused to walk along easily. She was fine when I put her back in a collar.
We used it in the car yesterday attached to the seat belt and caribiner. A few minutes after leaving the house she wiggled right out of it. My husband who was in the front seat saw her pull back and wiggle out. I wouldn’t trust it for driving her alone. It looks like I will have to resort to a crate in the car, and a collar for walking.
Had to review how the clasps worked. I feel my dog is secure while travelling now. In a crash dogs will propel if the are loose. This unit was crash tested. Also bought the tether that clicks into the seat belt.
Love Kurgo car products! This paired with the swivel carabiner is perfect for your curious-type dogs. I feel much safer with my dogs tethered to the seatbelts and worry a lot less about what might happen should we be involved in an accident.
I had one of these with my previous dog and I liked how well it fit him, so I bought one for this dog. This company was also the first one to take the crash test seriously. I also like how it can be used as a walking harness as well. I just hope the puppy doesn’t grow much more.
Really impressed by this harness & feel completely confident using it with my Springer in my Mini convertible! He looks less than impressed but only because he’s never worn one before. M fits perfectly – he’s 19 kilos – and it is comfortable.
Makes a really good harness, with much better control on lead.
Very good for seatbelt harness too, less cumbersome than other brands I’ve tried.
I ordered the Medium for my 16kg Cocker Spaniel, adjusts to fit really well and looks so smart.
The quality seems great, but if your dog is at the high end of the size allowance, go ahead and get the bigger size. My dog’s “small” collars and jackets are always too big for her, so I tend to pick the smallest size that has her within its range. Well, even though it technically should have fit by Kurgo’s measurements, it needed a half inch more length in the middle. However, it was easy to return and get another one in a larger size.
Bought for walking and car safety harness, because it said it was tested which gives us peace of mind. Easy to adjust and to put on once we checked the instructions. buckles are all metal, it is a fair weight. we shouldn’t need to buy another.
This Kurgo harness keeps my pupper safe and secure in the backseat while I am driving. He seems quite comfortable and has sufficient range of motion to sit, stand or curl up in his bed – all the while restraining him in the event of a collision. It also protects the human occupants from the pup becoming a projectile. I find it quite easy to get our dog in the harness for road trips. I had to do some digging to find data about harness safety and this is one harness that seems to provide excellent security and it has been crash-tested. I definitely recommend the product.
Same problem! My dog somehow manages to unclip the seat belt. So can’t use it.
Best to actually measure your dog before purchasing as I was intending to get a medium but my young Lurcher’s chest size pushed him into a large. The harness is very adjustable – takes a bit nore effort than our other harnesses but there is no plastic connectors on this one – all metal and heavy duty. The leaflet provides advice on two methods of attachment and it is your choice. This feels a lot safer than other harnesses and I am very happy with it – they also look good on the dog.
I have 2 dogs – big (53 pound pitbull) and little dog (15 pounds beagle mix). I have ordered several sizes for both as they are “between” the size and weight sizings on the manufacturer’s chart. Here is what happened.
BIG DOG: This is a very substantial, strong harness. I have tried out quite a few now and none of them come close to what I perceive as the strength and durability of this one. It has metal clasps instead of plastic, which if you have a strong escape artist such as I do, who has broken the plastic buckles on previous harnesses in her successful attempts to free herself, I believe she will not be able to escape this harness. My theory is untested as I just got the harness, and I will update this aspect later after testing.
For my bigger dog sizing: the pitbull is between a medium and a large. The LARGE: I feel its too loose in the neck – even with it adjusted to its smallest setting for the neck. And then for the girth I can adjust it as needed. For the MEDIUM: I can adjust the neck properly, but the girth is too tight for her. I have decided to keep the large and I will sew the neck area to my adjustments. I am happy with this solution. I do not plan to use this harness as a walking, no-pull harness as I already have a favorite for this (but it has plastic buckles and she breaks the buckles and escapes in the car with that one on, even if left for only 5-10 minutes).
For my smaller dog: For the smaller dog I decided that as great as this harness is, that its superior build and quality do make it a bit heavier and I felt that I do not need that level of heaviness and I will be using a lighter weight harness.
I have found that in all the harnesses I have tried lately, for both dogs, that both my dogs seem to be between sizes where if I order a smaller size – the neck size is good, but the girth is too small, and the larger size fits the girth but then I cannot adjust the neck to be small enough. This is across multiple sizes and brands. I think it just it what it is, and the best solution for me will be to buy the bigger size and then if necessary sew (or have a professional sew) it to what I really need.
Bottom line: this is a FANTASTIC harness and for riding in the car I highly recommend it.
Great as a car harness, but not so good as a walking harness as the nylon straps that go behind the legs have caused excess rubbing and caused cuts in our boys leg pits… I have modified the harness with some polar fleece sleeves to reduce friction which seems to have helped.
If the harness had sleeves for the hard nylon to reduce friction it would get 5 stars.
It is a strong well made harness BUT
for a small dog it’s so very heavy. I don’t think I would be happy to let my x Italian pup wear it for a long journey as he is so boney . But as i said nicely made harness .
Not the easiest to get on a wriggling puppy put it away for the time being.
Excellent harness for my cockerpoo to wear whilst in the car. After a couple of uses she was used to i
Very sturdily made. Should stand up in a car crash. Attaches easily with a carabiner to the seat belt system in the car. A bit heavy for a puppy but safety is more important. The attachments on the straps are a bit fiddly till you figure them out.
This is the second one I’ve purchased. The best things about it is it’s durability – the product is made of good quality material, is thicker than the competitor and the hardware is made of metal. The first one is still going strong and is used for the car. I keep the second for daily walks. I like that this product is so well made that I don’t have to worry about plastic clips or rings wearing or becoming brittle.
his harness is great – its easy to adjust and put on our dog (when not wiggling LOL) the chest is hugs her nicely as well. When secured in our vehicle we have purchased two belts to secure her to the vehicle seat belt. it allows her a bit of flexibility enough for her to sit, turn and lie down. We are ordering the next size up as she is almost ready for it.
Me encant!
Arrived promptly. Well packaged. Good quality tough product. Really smart. Easy to fit and use in/out of car. Good instructions. Would recommend
easy to put on and fix to seat belt. great to know that my dog is safe and comfortable
It was much cheaper here on amazon than in the pet store. It seems very supportive and gives me peace of mind on road trips.
UPDATE: Almost 2 1/2 years later, still love this harness. My dog has filled out a bit so I just purchased a large red from my previous medium black. All metal hardware, amazing quality, great for running or biking, as well.
Pleased with the product as the clasped as made of metal rather than cheaper alternatives when they are made from plastic. Certainly would expect these to be far more robust in the event of a car accident. Also note that this product has been crash tested which surprisingly most are not.
Also has the advantage that we used to walk our golden retriever whilst wearing this harness rather than needing to change over when out of the car. He was happy to wear it and didn’t try to get off.
Not cheap but you get what you pay for and the safety of our best friend is well worth the extra expenditure!
Medium fits well my 14 kg cocker spaniel. Kept the dog safe during the long journey and harsh breaking at times. I have ordered other brands but had to return as the quality was poor or the size didn’t match the description. This one is perfect.
Excellent product. I bought 2 for my dogs on a long road trip they worked perfectly
After a bit of playing around for the figment this is a surprisingly easy on and off harness which our dog seems quite comfortable in (considering she has never worn one before and we thought it would irritate her). Easy seatbelt attachment and very functional
Tengo 4 perros grandes, 2 Pitbull y 2 Golden Retriever.
Excellent for my dogs, a Golden Retriever and a Samoyed, comfortable for both ends of the lead, very reliable perfectly adjustable and non-slip. I much prefer metal fastenings to the plastic clips. The chest flap is broad and to some extend prevents the dog from getting too muddy.
Fits my dog super well. He wears it while on runs and in the car (used as a seat belt). Easy to put on the dog as they are not buckles, but metal clips. Feels secure. Shipping was quick and without issues. We had the small, medium and now large as my dog grew. There’s clip in the front and back which is nice. Doesn’t slide into his armpits like some harnesses do.
Easy to put it on the dog and adjust straps, easy for me to get it off when I want to. The dog seems comfortable while wearing it. Have used it in the car with the seat belt – let’s the dog sit or lay down on the seat. Used for walking using the front clip – the dog usually pulls a lot, but with the harness she turns herself when she tries to pull so she ends up walking without tension on the leash. Also used for running with an elastic leash through my belt with one end clipped to her front clip and the other clipped to her back – it keeps her comfortably beside me so we dont trip over each other.
This has been a godsend for my little frenchie who travels on the back seat of the car. It’s comfortable (she happily falls asleep with it on), sturdy without being harsh to her frame and most important it keeps her safe in the event of a collision.
My only quibble would be the lack of a rotating clip between the carabiner and the harness attachment. I have to attach the carabiner to the rotating clip on her lead for free movement, otherwise when she changes position the harness tightens around her. It’s a problem easily sorted and I wouldn’t let it deter me from recommending this product to those who want to rely on something more substantial than plastic clips to keep their dogs safe… these are steel.
My puppy has wore this everyday for a year now. I bought this when it was $40 (it could go down to ~$28)
Pros: good quality, My dog escaped from this harness only when it is ++tightly buckled on a seat belt which is not the proper way as the manufacturer directed. Never escaped during a walk. Metal clips are heavy but solid. Still shinny after a year of use. My puppy does not mind it at all once it’s on. Front D ring is very useful for daily walks. 5 adjustable points. Excellent customer service, they replaced my damaged harness right away with no questions asked.
Cons: A true-fit but not a tight fit. Harness is rubbing against dog’s chest to trap fur and cause material damage. This harness is not reflective. Not rust proved at one of 5 adjustable points (two iron buttons on the front pad)
*Photos and video are taken after one month of use.
Wanted a crash-tested (and passed) harness for small spaniel. I tried the Sleepypod Clickit Sport first, as it does seem to be the industry’s leading one but despite having read all instructions and watched Sleepypod’s own video, I could not get the adjustments right for the straps around the neck and on a motorway journey I could hear raspy breaths as though it was pressing on his airway. Thankfully was able to stop and remove it very quickly.
So, I was then on the hunt for a crash tested one that would not cause the same issue. I discovered three others. After researching I settled on this one. I have only had it a few days but already done a long journey. Obviously (and thankfully) not tested in a crash but it sits well on him (7 kilo puppy) and doesn’t put pressure on his airway.
Hope this helps others in making their decision.
This is an excellent product, very well made and excellent materials, sadly I am having to return it due to it not fitting due to my breed of dog. A chihuahua, which come in so many shapes and sizes and therefore for him it is incompatible with his shape. Return readily accepted so safe to purchase from.
Good. Very adjustable. It has metal, no plastic. Very sturdy. My 11lb poodle was between sizes and the adjustable straps definitely helped it fit her properly. its very strong, she is a puller. it also doesn’t dig into my dog, it fits nicely without hurting her. Worth the money.
Well made and secure. The only minor problem is the buckles are a little fiddly to begin with especially if the dog isn’t co-operating! But got the hang of it soon enough.
Once I had actually read the instructions it is actually pretty straight forward to use! Thanks
I bought two Kurgo Tru-fit Crash Tested Harnesses, for my Jack Russell Terriers, and they are awesome! The harness has a connector included (put harness on dog first. Not being a smarty pants, just want to be clear) that hooks securely to the car seat belt before driving, so I no longer worry about my pups getting hurt if I need to brake hard, and prevents accidents during driving caused by dog jumping in driver’s lap, or under driver’s feet onto brake & gas pedals ( which DID happen to me ). Also prevents your dog from jumping out of the car and getting lost if the car door is opened for any reason.
Note; if you travel with your dog sitting in the front passenger seat, please make sure to turn off the air bag on that side before driving. Impact from the air bag will kill your dog.
The Kurgo Crash Tested Harness doubles as a great harness for dogs that pull/drag the dog walker, which my JRT’s have a tendency to do. Amazing to think that an 18 pound little dog can drag 100 -200 pds of person, but they can, will, and do The fitting built into the harness curbs pulling, and there is an optional leash attatchment link on the front chest area that works even better for some dogs. It’s easy to adjust ( fit guide on product info worked for me). There are two metal clips that fit into each other to close the harness together, which is a little tricky to figure out at first, but after a couple of tries ..okay, maybe 8-12 tries, I figured it out and it was easy. Overall, this is a wonderful, very well priced, AND most importantly, CRASH TESTED, safety harness for car travel that I highly recommend to everyone.
This will be my second purchase of the Kurgo dog harness. The last time was 6-7 years ago and it was used a lot!
A very well designed and an excellent product. Very easy to use, clean and fits my standard schnauzer comfortably.
I believe it could be a good training aid with the short lead & carabiner. It helped with teaching my wilful dog not to pull and keep close along the pavement. I highly recommend this product.
We got the large size and it fits our dog brilliantly. Really robust. Use it mostly for walking rather than in the car and it has even stopped her pulling as much when attached to the fitting on the front.
Always use Kurgo harness’s for both dogs, I use it for walks and in the car. My dog weighs 7 kilos and is a shih-poo to give you an idea of fit.
I Always buy Kurgo harness’s for my dogs, I have it in black already and bought a red for a change. I use it to walk my dog as I don’t like to use the collar and lead because he is only a small dog. Also works well with the Kurgo booster seat and i feel my dogs are safe whilst in the car.
I love these harness’s and use them on both of my dogs, I don’t like to use there collar with the lead because there only small dogs and I worry about the strain on there necks.
They are quite fiddly to put on the dog even when I have been using one of them for 6 months, I do feel the dog is safer in the car using the Kurgo car seat. My dogs are both Shih-poo and I use the Small size for the biggest dog who is 10 months old and weighs 7 kilo’s and the puppy who weighs 3 Kilo’s is 3 months and fits into the Xsmall.
GOOD QUALITY, too big at moment but will grow into.Goes with Kurgo car seat.
Excellent quality materials, great fit for my dog. He is comfortable wearing it in the car but also out walking and running. I’m reassured that he is safer in the car.
Does exactly what it says I can now take my dog out for a walk anytime, I am confident that she will no longer pull me for a walk
Thankfully I didn’t get to *truly* test the product, if you know what I mean, but I trust the tests they conducted. Fitting was a bit of a hassle at first but I got the hang of it after 2 times and it takes about 20 seconds now. Feels very strong and durable.
These are the best harnesses for car and walking very good quality
Good sturdy harness for my energetic boarder collie and does not interfere when running off lead.very useful with front fastener for lead.
It’s a wonderful harness. It fits my Toy Fox Terrier mix well and is good looking, although definitely understated. I was able to adjust the harness to fit him well and getting used to the buckle was pretty easy. You will have to look at what you are doing as it does take coordination. If you don’t train another person about how the buckle works, you will be the only one able to put it on and take it off.
I was really looking for a harness that could do double duty as a car harness too and that’s why I chose this one. (I wanted to avoid having to use a second harness just for travel.) The crash tested version has metal buckles rather than plastic and the tether is a strong attachment with a substantial carabiner. I’ve not been able to check it out as since I’ve received it, I have gotten ill and have not been able to experience it in the car with my dog. Referring to the manufacturer’s video about how to employ it was the final thing that clinched the sale for me. It was my prime motivation for safety driving with my dog as I drive a convertible (and terriers are high-strung dogs).
My dog Cody has accepted it well, and appears comfortable in it. It also is stable while he is wearing it, doesn’t slide from side to side, and the top bracket with the V-ring has some play designed in, so it moves with your dog but doesn’t thwart his movement in any way. His old harness has a D-shaped ring and a few times a year the leash would unhook itself and I was concerned enough about that flaw; this harness’s V-ring is narrower and therefore will be more secure hopefully. Time will tell if it is more dependable; not any disengagements have occurred so far.
Cody is enjoying it, hope your dog will too.
I never thought that I got stop our dog from pulling but this harness is excellent. Walks on the lead are now stress free and enjoyable! Would recommend to anyone with a dog that pulls on the lead.
Good little harness, little fiddly when my little dog won’t sit still, when trying to put on or take off.
This is the second Kurgo harness that I have purchased and I am once again pleased with the overall quality of the product. This particular design has metal connectors that are not as convenient as the plastic buckles from my other harness but they are significantly more durable. The harness is easy to fit and modify. The carabiner attachment for the handle is a significant improvement over the previous attachment clip. The harness does an excellent job of securing my dogs while transporting in vehicles. They are also effective as walking harnesses.
Great sturdy feel to the harness feels strong and safe for car use. plenty of adjustment for all shape dogs. We have been using the harness for a few weeks now and it’s the best one we have ever had. arrived quickly and packaged securely.
This was a fantastic purchase. I was a little afraid this harness would be uncomfortable for my dog, but she actually had no problems with it when we left it on for most of the day. The harness did not rub or pinch her hair/skin. The seat-buckle strap is great, I purchased this harness because we were going to be on the road for several hours at a time. I was concerned that she would not have enough room to lay down while riding in the back-seat, I was proven wrong. She was very comfortable in the back seat, she had enough room to move around and lay comfortably.
Additionally, I was concerned regarding the negative reviews for the harness being a pain to put on. It took a few minutes to understand how the mechanism works, I prefer this method over the plastic quick releases, seems sturdier. However, you will need to loosen the part that goes over the head to remove and put back on. The straps that go around the body have not been changed after their initial adjustment. Our dog is on the higher end of medium but lower than a large in measurements. I recommend purchasing the medium because you can loosen the straps. A large would not have tightened enough to fit snug on our dog.
Finally, I cannot comment on the stitching, so far, it has held up pretty well considering she is a 45lb dog that likes to pull. The harness came with a few loose strings, this was not a problem as I cut them to make it short. The harness is not the prettiest of them all, but it’s very functional and I definitely recommend this product.
Great harness! Fits well and gives me great control of my dog. I use the front clip and my dog doesn’t pull at all anymore. My previous harness used to chafe my dog under his front legs due to the way it’s designed. This harness is designed to avoid the underarm area, so no more chafing!
My one criticism is that the harness must be slipped over the dog’s head, which can be a challenge. It would’ve been nice to have a clip around the neck piece to avoid having to slip it over the head.
UPDATE, MAR 2017: Stopped using this harness about a month ago and bought a halti instead. My dog is still growing and is now about 80lbs and too powerful for this harness. I used the front clip exclusively and it would just twist whenever my dog pulled, rather than stop the pulling. I don’t recommend this product for large dogs (70lb+) that are strong pullers.
It’s probably just my gsp pups large chest but he was able to get out of medium because the neck was too loose, it was as tight as it could go. He also was too big to wear the small any more. Now he’s just about through the medium to the large because of his chest, but i’ve barely adjusted the neck yet.
Overall quality is good and can’t complain much since i knew it would be a temporary harness anyways as he grows.
Bought this in May 2016 for our 50lbs mix, and we love it! The metal buckles are a great design and once you learn the way they work, they are easy to use. Unlike other dog harnesses I have used that have the buckle style connections, there is no way for the metal buckles on this harness to be released by the dog bumping against something.
We haven’t used the seat belt clip.
When we adopted another pup we actually bought another one of these harnesses because we liked it so much.
The only thing I would consider a Con, is that there is no fast way to adjust the neck straps in order to get it over the dog’s head. Our smaller dog (medium harness) requires the neck straps to be as tight as possible to fit properly, however it will not fit over his head that way. This requires loosening the neck strap, placing it over the dog’s head, then tightening the strap again. All that said, it is not a reason to avoid this harness. With our larger pup, a sheppard mix, she needs a large harness for her chest size, but the neck straps are as small as they get and still fit over her head without being loosened. It will depend on your specific dog.
We did have an issue with one of the harnesses starting to pull apart, but I put in a warranty claim with Kurgo and within 24hrs I got a response that they were sorry for the issue and a replacement was on it’s way. Great, fast customer service!
Our dog is tall and a regular tie out rope would often tangle around his legs. The Kurgo has a centrally located fastener on his back so as not to interfere with walking and sprinting. The short T-Bar walking handle is great too because you have full control of the animal. It is easy to put on and take off. It could just be our Shepherd, but the harness tends to slip a bit to one side; could use a rivet to hold in place.
A very good, sturdy harness. Ideal with the Kurgo Skybox
feels very well made and impressed with crash test videos. one of the very few car harnesses that are crash tested. reasonable price as well.
I was using a carrier to take my 11.5 lb Norwich Terrier with me in the car. She hated it! I would have to push her head down inside while I was zipping the top because she didn’t want to go in it. It broke my heart every time we went somewhere. I looked at other car harnesses, but she was often too small for even the smallest size. I purchased the extra-small size of the Kurgo for her, and it fits perfectly. It’s very simple to get on and off, as long as your dog is okay with something slipping over their head for a couple seconds. I love the sturdy metal buckles–they are so simple to fasten. I’ve been tethering her to the seat belt with the extension they include, but I think I’m going to start attaching the carabiner directly to the seatbelt so there is less play. I’ve had a couple of fast stops and she has been thrown forward more than I would like. The harness itself is very well made. I let her ride in the front passenger seat– my car has a sensor that turns off the air bag when there is not enough weight in the seat. I would recommend placing your dog in the back seat if you can’t disable the air bag. It works well as a regular walking harness, too. My dog is my baby, and I am very picky about what products I trust when it comes to her, but I am very happy with this harness and recommend it highly!
Brilliant waterproof harness once you’ve worked out how to do it up! New system works well and seems to be safe and comfy
perfect! now our 31lb collier can be securely seated in our car. it is awfully worrysome to be driving 100km/h+ and knowing your dog may be tossed around. not any more. we purchased this harness along with a seatbelt clip (which buckles in like a normal seat belt), and now have piece of mind knowing he will not go anywhere in the event of a crash, or a hard/quick brake. the clips are solid metal (not cheap). it is also adjustable around the torso. great investment for safety.
Excellent harness! I have a welsh corgi and she was able to some how fight her way out of 2 other harnesses we tried but not this one! I needed a harness because she is reactive and didnt want her to choke on a regular collar. Very good harness!! And it looks good!
I have had this harness before, in size large, for one of our smaller male Bernese Mountain dogs, and it was amazing!!! The Kurgo harnesses are so very well-made, they can take a lot of pulling and the handle on the back has been a life-saver many times over. I would highly recommend this harness for dog owners looking for a harness that will last a very long time.
This is very well made and did help us control our dog while walking her. When she pulls and I have to control her pulling her back with the harness appears much better than a collar on her neck. We have not tried it in the car attached to a safety belt yet, but it was nice that it came with all of the necessary straps to attach to the seat belts. When it arrived I had no idea how to unattach the straps so I could put it on the dog. Read the directions but they did not include information on how the straps attach or how to test for proper fit and adjustment. Just basic instructions. After a while I saw that there are two metal pieces on each top strap that feed through a small opening in the other. In order to insert them you have to align the side of one metal piece in the correct direction in order slide it through the opening and then turn it in the correct way so it sits flush on top of the other. I have found this difficult to attach when our dog is pulling because she really wants to go out. Although, I still trust this type of metal attachment more than the plastic clips that come with other collars and harnesses.
I really love this harness. For one, it’s a harness that fits my dog! My pup is super deep chested and thin necked which made it almost impossible to find a harness that actually fit her, which sucked because she needs a harness for her sensitive neck. Before this arrived I was using a mesh harness that was entirely too big around her neck and was snug on her chest. Adjusted how I like, this harness can still go a few inches larger around her chest and a couple inches smaller around her neck. I’m giving 5 stars just for a harness that fits!
First impressions of the harness: I got the XS harness. When I took it out of the box my first thought was that it seemed a little heavy for a harness ment for small/toy dogs. However the more I handled it I realized that weight came from the metal buckles(which I abosluely love. I wouldn’t trust plastic buckles in a car crash and the metal ones are extremely easy to use) and the doubled and tripled layers of material of all the straps as well as the padded chest piece. The more I thought about it I realized I wouldn’t want a harness that’s ment to protect my dog in case of a car crash to be any lighter, the weight means it’s built with extra strength and the well being of the dog in mind. (When I say it’s “heavy” I mean it probably weighs around 1/2 a pound as opposed to the mesh harness I was using that weighs pretty much nothing).
The car strap that comes with this harness is pure genius. I use it in the way that gives my dog a little more freedom in the car as she has a small obsession with putting her head out the window. The strap gives her the perfect amount of movement and keeps her from hanging completely out the window and jumping out(she has jumped out a car window at a stop sign with my mom when she was a puppy and I have no doubts she’d do it again if given the chance). The strap itself is extremely heavy duty and well made and I wouldn’t want anything less. The strap was the final selling point for me as I didn’t want a harness that needed to be attached directly to the steat belt and I’m cautious about buying a leash that attaches directly into the seatbelt reciever. My only problem is my pup likes to do a few circles before laying down and the strap can get twisted up pretty easy. Other than that I don’t have anything negative to say about this product!
I have a german shepherd pup, growing like a weed and wanted to find something that would grow with her, be easy to put on her, and be safe to boot. I wasn’t expecting much and figured if I didn’t like it I could return it. The package came and I took out the harness and adjusted it to fit her. Imagine my surprise at the quality of materials. It was easy to adjust to her current size, and will grow with her and fit her when she’s full grown. The metal buckles are far superior to the plastic things you usually get in a harness, and it is quick to put on her & take off. She doesn’t seem to mind the harness at all, and you could use it for walking as well. The tether could be a few inches longer as my dog likes different positions, but it’s strong and easily connected to the harness. (My daughter’s is hard to put onto her dog, and takes us about 10 minutes to get her connected). Great purchase & my daughter has ordered one for her 4 year old lab too.
It’s really useful, it ended up replacing the collar as it has a handy hook on the front for the name tags. It’s quick and easy to fit on the dog with minimal messing about once you get used to the buckles. It’s also a very robust and solid harness given that it’s surviving a 25kg puppy tugging in it.
This is the best harness I’ve used to date. My dog is about 50 lbs or so and when I put this on him he no longer pulls.
Have had other harnesses that have ended up snapping, can tell the quality is much better with this having metal buckles. Also the seatbelt attachment is great for the car.
Love this product. I use mine for an everyday walking harness as well. Very well built. Way better controll. If my dog decides to go after a squirrel i know i can correct him without hurting him, and without worrying about any clasp breaking as the connector on the back of the harness is ultra heavy duty.
bought for a very powerful Akita, brilliant harness, very strong, lots of adjustment for the neck as well as the girth
Brilliant harness. Sturdy and very well made. Bit fiddly to get on but worth it.
Brilliant harness for my small dog, I’ve had four now and wouldn’t buy any other, I use it for everyday walks not just for car journeys, I was a bit put off by the metal clips my others had plastic ones, but no need to worry simple to use and look much smarter than the plastic ones.
Use the harnesses for car journeys. Very easy to fit in the dog and I feel safer knowing they are restrained should an accident happen.
I have been through many of these over the past 30 years of owning few dogs. I can say this one by far is the most durable one. It has one issue and that is taking it off your dog and it ain’t easy when it comes to the head also it will make your dog very moody and snappy but definitely effective in regards to stopping your dog’s pulling behaviour. Just pay attention to your dog while walking and keep correcting him/she and be patient. Also you are going to need a double head lead as well. I bought it from Halt for 2.99 on Amazon.
I bought two of these harnesses one for each of my bigger dogs. I’m gladly going to buy two more for my growing dogs!
I bought the large for both of my dogs and they fit wonderfully. I have a Pit/Boxer mix(Pika) who is 48 pounds. I knew she was right under the size limit for large but I wanted to make sure it would fit her for a long time so I went with the large. Hers is a little big around her neck(After adjusting to the smallest size) but she’s not able to get out of it and it doesn’t hinder her movement in anyway. (Her name might as well be Houdini. She can get out of regular collars and harnesses.)
My other dog is a Lab/Hound mix(Kovu) who is 66 pounds. It fits him perfect and I know if he gets bigger I can always adjust the clasp and he’ll be fine. It doesn’t hinder his movement in anyway either.
They also come with the loop and clip thing for cars and just this week alone it’s made my life so much simpler. I’m still working on my dogs manners so car time can be rough for all of us. They like to climb on the middle console and try and fuse into me and my girlfriend. Well now with the seat belt thing. They have enough room to look out the window, readjust themselves, sit, and lay comfortably plus they’re not making it impossible for me to drive.
So pretty much it
Fits like it’s supposed to
Adjustable at 4 different places
Dogs aren’t able to escape ^_^
They look cool 😀
Makes life easier in car
+++++++
Also these are the best price (in my area) I checked Walmart, PetSense, Atwoods, and Tractor Supply. Everything at the other stores were more expensive and looked weak and flimsy.
Very nice harness. Fits my 30 pound Boston Terrier like a charm ! I didn’t use the seat belt tie that came with the harness instead I bought one that has a seat belt buckle, keeps my little guy from roaming around too much ! Recommended definitely ! The build is solid and not worried one bit when I tie my dog in the car with this product.
After my 110 lb German Shepherd , a nice dog who unfortunately hates cats and squirrels, broke his 2nd harness and 3rd leash, I decided to really investigate my choices. This Kurgo Tru-Fit “Enhanced Strength” Harness in XL fits him perfectly and is the BEST harness I have ever seen or used. This, after a lifetime of owning dogs of all sizes and shapes and personalities. Not only is it well made, with the extra strong nylon and the combo of steel buckles and clips, as well as reinforced webbing, I actually have more control over my dog. Because it fits him well he feels secure and “hugged” while it makes him let me control him better w/o the harness slipping back and forth as many do. He looks awesome in it – very tough guy . LOL. The back set of buckles and straps are set back far enough he doesn’t get chafed in his armpits as other harnesses did. So it fits his XL size very well. The chest pad I think helps to stabilize it and so far doesn’t seem to be too warm for him. BEST OF ALL are the buckles. If you slide the non logo part of the buckle with the strap into the other part of the receiving buckle end, it’s sooo easy to slip on and off. I was confused at first how to do it but this system works very well once you get it. OH and a BONUS is the strap with a hefty D ring for the car! That alone would cost extra in any other place. I am very impressed by the design, craftsmanship and sturdiness of the harness overall and have no fear that it will hold up , despite any cats crossing our path! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Item arrived quickly. It fits very well on my 56kilo newfoundland. I feel safer knowing she’s attached the the seat belt behind me. Very happy with this item.
Good fitting harness, which fits our Labrador very well. Sturdy and a nice looking product. I would recommend this. This is the second one I’ve bought as my Daughter now has one for her Labrador to.
I bought this harness after buying a Bergan harness. On the Bergan, the chestplate would bunch up under my dogs belly, and slide around to the sides (it floats on the harness and is not fixed to it). I also didn’t like the plastic buckle at the top on the Bergan. I am happy to say, that the Kurgo Tru-Fit Enhanced Strength car harness improves greatly on those problems. The metal buckles make a a simple task of getting the harness on and off (once the harness is adjusted to the dogs size). The center strap on the back, does allow the back/belly loop to silde up towards the front/neck loop, and I would prefer that the rear loop stay in place at the back of the center strap. This happens when my dog is backing up with the harness attached at the back restraining ring, but at no time was my dog able to slip out of the harness. I bought this harness (first trying the Bergan) after seeing the crash test videos where the 4 harnesses tested, all failed! In reading up on the subject, I was amazed to find that the occupants (dog included) can see an acceleration of between 30 to 50 Gs of force in a typical 30 MPH crash. That means my 50 lb dog could exert a force of 1500 to 2500lbs force. No wonder those other harnesses failed. I have not used the included nylon seatbelt strap yet, but I have since upgraded form 1/4 nylon rope to 3/16 steel braided cable as my means of attachment to the harness (attached to the child safety seat anchor in the roof of my car). This allows my dog to move from side to side in the car, stick her head out the Window, but not much more, and now I don’t have to worry about her going through the windshield or out the widow should I be involved in a crash. If you love your dog, please restrain them when you take them with you. You wouldn’t drive around with your 3 yr old kid loose in the car – why expose your dag to the same danger?
Fits lovely, dog seems very comfortable in it. It is much easier to take him a walk because he would pull so this harness was just what we needed.
This harness is just what we wanted for our Labrador to keep him safe in the car, it fits him well and he is very secure and comfy, very good value for money. I would not hesitate to recommend this harness.
