    The usual makita quality
Big upgrade from my old one (which to be fair was at least 10 years old). In my experience Makita is always worth the money

This little guy is a beast! It's cut every piece of metal I've thrown at it and it still cuts like the day I got it!

Cut 1/4” steel plate quick and easy.
Made cuts easy in 1/4″ plate with little sparks. Much better than trying to use a recip, angle grinder or portaband. Cuts were very crisp and clean.
Probably caught 70-80% of the metal cuttings in the “dust box”.
I used my Dewalt 5Ah battery with an adapter to use this.

Only issue I had was that the cuts went off perpendicular despite using a framing square. I chalk this up to user error as cutting plate steel takes longer and greater forces than wood allowing for the square to drift. I did clamp it but will use more or larger clamps in future.

The “dust box” lid catch did crack leaving it weak but I’m not sure how it happened. I think I will plastic weld it to repair it and try to be more careful opening it though I wonder how this will last in a real fabrication scenario as a opposed to my garage.

Other than that very happy for the price and best of all its cordless!

Cuts straight I can go and just the piece of steel I want and not have to haul the torches out or haul a big chunk of steel back to the shop.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersGood tool - could do with some tweaks on the mk2
Used for electrical containment and support system installation.

The saw cuts extremely cleanly, and used with 4 and 5 Ah batteries I didn’t have to make as many charger trips as I expected. Much lower power consumption than making the same cuts with a grinder.

Difficult to follow lines, the groove and window on the guide doesn’t line up with the cut. You need your line to be about 2mm to the right of the groove, which is annoying and the swarf catcher obscures your view of the blade – would be better in clearer plastic.

Although it has depth setting, it has no mitre setting like you might find on a timber circular saw. This would be a very welcome addition.

Sliding blade guard gets caught from time to time. Could do with a handle to pull it back safely when required.

Over the course of a week I’ve learned to live with the above issues but they could be easily sorted by Makita. All that said it is still an excellent tool and I wouldn’t dream of sending it back as it’s much better than a grinder or jigsaw for ladder, tray, trunking and unistrut.

Great saw but comes with its ups and downs
I’ve given this a four because it difficult to use because you can’t pull back the pivoting guard when in use it’s a pain but still a nice tool to use.
