The radio comes with a European plug and the plug cost 40 pounds to get it in type g so I sent back. Wish it were a bit clearer.

Love this radio. Good sound quality, relatively good dab/fm coverage in our area. Love the Bluetooth. Haven’t really taken it to too many building sites as I think it is still too nice to get thrown around, but in the garage, around the house and outdoors it’s great. Battery life (5ah batteries) pretty good, probably a full day on medium volume. Nice bit of kit.

    Use it around the house,
    And with equaliser features
Can be fine adjusted to whatever type of music you listen to,
    Just great.

Everything you would expect from a heavy duty site radio. Sound quality is brilliant. Effortlessly fills this 16 metre X 50 metre workshop at half volume. Easy to use and does what it’s supposed to do.
10 hours straight at two thirds volume (with the loudness ON) out of a fully charged 18V 5.0 Ah BL1850B Makita battery (not included, you’re gonna need batteries and a charger)

When it was working it was perfect. However after a little more than 3 months. It won’t turn on with adapter or battery. I now have to send it back via makita for repair. Not great considering price.

Amendments made. Fixed via makita free of charge. So far so good. Hopefully it will continue to work.

Can only give 1 star because of this issue.

Bought this for my husband as a gift as we had bought one for our son. The sound quality is incredible. Bit dubious about ordering it as it was 90 cheaper than a well known trade seller but it didn’t not dissapoint and is the exact same model. Happy husband and happy wife as he’s in the garage more out of my hair 😉

Live this and I use in greenhouse and poly tunnel. In house reception can be hit and miss for Magic which is why I bought it; for that station however we live in middle of nowhere so I have no complaints and recommend it.

I believed that all new makita site radios charged batteries in 80mins,this item DOES NOT. Ther is no place internally to store the ac plug or phone, bit disappointing. Even with sound adjusted down the bass levels are very high. The rubber buttons on the front don’t feel durable for the test of time. Very thin material to depress the tactile switch behind. Very nice to look at tho. Nice display.good reception. Hope this is helpful. I paid 144

Wow! So much better than I expected and at a really competitive price. First off it sounds great and can do the deep bass without any vibration. We have a couple of Bose speakers and this maybe better for overall big sound. It uses the regular drill/ grinder/ regular Makita tools’ batteries so is easy to charge and packs a punch. The DAB quality is great as you’d expect and the Bluetooth is a great and quickly connected to my phone. It actually lights up and the dial changes colour as you cycle through the menu options, which Idid not expect from a site radio. The build quality is substantial, much heavier than I thought it would be. It’s robust and would take some knocks I’m sure. It comes with a mains lead which I won’t need and has a USB charging port which means your phone’s Bluetooth will never let you down. Can you guess, I really like this radio!

Very good having the DAB option saves no end of time. The sound is excellent and very rich, having the equaliser is also a good feature and not just a gimmick. The aerial in the handle works well. The only negative comment is the transformer cannot be stored inside the unit. Very pleased with the purchase, wished I had bought one years ago.

Put off buying one for years but a recent job outside in February with my little fm/am radio struggling to pick up any station worth listening to, even for short periods, made me take the plunge. DAB….what can you say? Better choice of stations and music. Not necessarily bombarded with lecturing news and advertising. And no interference! Crystal clear sound. Not as small and certainly not as light as my little Sony or Roberts radio, much more expensive, but station choice and clarity wins . I only use it on jobs where I am one place for the day really. Have used a 4.0ah Makita battery for two days at work on medium volume level. Don’t bother with copy batteries. I have a cheap 6.0ah battery which routinely lasts about 3 hours at the most.

+ Bedienung kinderleicht jeder kommt anscheinend sofort damit zurecht.

It lasts well all day on a charged battery. Its a bit too bassy overall for my taste but you might prefer that. The reception isn’t great in my are so it flicks in and out of sound sometimes but thats not the radios fault. I have the impression that it is super quality built from decent plastic, and will probably last several liftimes. Its dead easy to use. Its alright. Bit big though.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFantastic Makita design, lovely clear colour screen, very robust, can be too bass heavy at times especially when listening to ‘Gold’ stations, fantastic signal strength and great variety of power options. Would be nice if Makita could build in a 240v power lead in future model designs as when you’re using a battery to power the unit you can’t store the supplied 240v power adapter in the battery compartment at the same time so keep an eye on your adapter as it could easily go walkabout when on site and you’re reliant on portable battery supplies.

This said… I would still highly recommend this produc

I purchased this from Howe’s due to the cheaper price and the UK plug being available on that option, it even had free next day delivery so is definitely the better route to go.

The sound quality is very good although it is let down a little by the subwoofer which starts to peak out when the volume is high, however, this is a job site radio and as such the quality will often be a lesser factor due to the ambient work noise. The travel on this system though is great, you can hear it over a large distance with clarity good enough to make out voices if you prefer to listen to radio talk shows over music.

Good solid construction and cleans up well. Admittedly I haven’t given it a hard knock yet or dropped it but the construction feels solid and there’s no loose or rattling noises. It’s been covered in cement, flooring latex, paint and acid. The first 3 cleaned off well without leaving any noticeable marks, the acid did fade out the plastic but it’s industrial grade for cleaning so in all honesty it taking it that well is only a positive as well, had the radio 3 months and the quality hasn’t degraded.

Now to the failing points. While the radio has good DAB, FM and Bluetooth options for choice (as well as aux but I haven’t tested that) it’s lacks both the SD and USB options of its American brother.

The onboard USB provides a great 2.4A max draw but lacks any use for data, which is unfathomable as the US version does have it, not to mention their unit also is capable of charging their batteries when they’re plugged into the mains.

As I can’t have my phone connected to this via Bluetooth due to needing to take calls and have it with me, I’ve had to go the route of purchasing a seperate MP3 player and leaving that permanently connected which is a good work around but could have been easily avoided by giving us the technology they are already selling across the pond.

As mentioned above this unit cannot charge the battery when the unit is plugged into the mains unlike it’s American release but honestly, while it would have been a nice feature it’s not a necessity as you get more than a days worth of use out of a 4.0Ah battery and they’re easily swapped out.

Speakers do seem to be quieter when running from battery rather than mains, not major but the sound does definitely travel far weaker than on mains and you lose some clarity over longer distances.

My only other little niggle, and it is minor; when selecting an equaliser setting each preset has a fixed colour associated with it. The default EQ is Flat which sets the volume knob light to the same lighting in the side strips, however, Rock sets the volume knob light to red but the strip lighting stays the same. Each of the other settings has a it’s own colours, Jazz is blue, Vocal is yellow etc. Even the Custom setting stays as a fixed lime green. While this is minor, it definitely does look out of place with the colouring of the case plastic and the other lights not changing.

All in all its a good solid radio that will last and definitely has the sound quality and travel adequate for a job site radio but there are things that Makita sound address in the future.

    Fantastic speaker!
    – great range for Bluetooth
    – The sub woofer is a great addition (works perfectly until highest 2 volume settings)
    – The ‘my eq’ setting is great for adding additional volume without distortion.
    – design is compact
    – radio antenna is built into the handle but still works when collapsed.
    – both 12v and 18v batteries compatible

Cons: power supply doesn’t fit into the unit with a battery attached

    Last note:
The new dewalt does sound better but it is much much bigger in size so if your already on the makita battery System and prefer a more compact size the makita is a great option.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a 5* radio. I’ve had 2 Mikita radios over the past 15 years. They’re built to last!!! If you work alone this is the perfect buddy to keep you going whilst working away. People comment on the sound quality, it has an adjustable equaliser, adjust it!! Dial it in and the sound quality is way way better than older models. It eats a 3amp battery a day, probably quicker if you get carried away with the volume. Guessing it’s down to the extra speaker. It’s easily as tough and dust proof as the previous models. Any negative reviews can be disregarded, they don’t know what they’re talking about.

Excellent site radio. Makita have been making site radios for many years now and they’ve got this one spot on, robust, great depth of sound and fantastic look. The colour screen and LED back lit buttons are a nice addition this time. There’s a very sturdy and well built rubber edging to the radio to protect the front well.
