Bought this to replace my DTD152 impact driver.

I sometimes a bit less ‘force’ and wanted H/M/S options offered by the 154

So far I am pleased with the controllability it offers but not 100% sure it was worth the outlay of nearly 2x the cost of a 152 to get i

Used for assembling/cladding cold rolled steel buildings. Plenty of power for frame screws, cladding fixings and bolt tightening – from such a small tool!

Easy to use addition to the family of Makita tools that I have. As my first impact driver, I now realise what I had been missing out on.

For such a compact, lightweight impact driver, it is extremely powerful….and as you expect from Makita, it seems to be really tough and well made.
The variable settings are also very useful when working on different materials.

Fantastic little tool! Having used my Makita drill/driver for screws for many years, using the impact driver was a true eye-opener. Smaller, lighter and more powerful compared to the drill/driver. An excellent addition to the tool kit.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis was one of my first Makita products, that eventually converted me to the Makita ecosystem Full pros and cons review below:

    Pros
genuine Makita product, arrived brand-new in Makita branded box
incredibly well built unit, high-quality plastics and bumper rubber protection around
brushless motor and variable stage trigger is a joy to use even though I do find myself using the lowest setting the majority of the time
changeable speeds and torque settings are another must, makes the tool incredibly versatile
    incredibly sturdy and powerful product

    Con
only one fault, the button press on the unit speed goes from the lower setting to the highest setting, which is a little frustrating especially when in most cases you just want to move up and down by one speed without cycling through every other setting

in conclusion, a really really excellent product that I thoroughly recommend and enjoy using on a weekly basis!

This is one of the Makita superstar! ☑️🧰

Super tool. Pros use Makita for a reason.
Having used a generalist Makita drill / driver for ages I wasn’t sure I needed one of these but it’s so much better as a driver, lighter and more powerful.
On a job you can also leave the drill bit in the drill which means switching is way quicker.
    Definitely worth having.

Fantastically made quality product, built to last, not down to a price. For the price I paid, it could be considered very good value. I had looked a Dewalt impact driver, but this Makita one is smaller, neater and better built. Very smooth operation, not really made for DIY but if you can afford it you will not be disappointed.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersI have used this extensively for the last year for driving in screws on on the shed roof, on a long wooden fence, fixing things to concrete wall. Where it really shone for me however was when working on the car and using it as a makeshift pneumatic impact gun. Get one of those adapters that has the 1/2 square drive so you can use it with your socket sets.

I’ve used it for removing/ tightening the wheel bolts, bicycle bolts, doing brake jobs, repairing the lawnmower. I use it for everything. I really like the settings too. There’s a low, medium and high – the torque from the high setting is incredible but be careful you don’t shear things with it, or drive a screw straight through a piece of wood.

I did have one occasion that it got really hot at the chuck when I was trying to crack free a seized wheel nut. So hot that it warped a rubber vanity piece at the chuck. But the function wasn’t affected at all. The led light is useful on some occasions but the option to turn it off is a welcome one.

The driver is very economical with the battery too. I use a 5Ah battery and it lasts for days of heavy use and weeks of light use. Make sure you register it on the Makita website for the extended warranty.

To summarize this is an incredible little tool to have, fits perfectly in the hand and nobody should have a toolbox without one of these in it. If you look at any mechanic, plumber, builder, electrician – they all have one of these in their toolbag.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLikes:
    – Good build quality
    – Uses the same batteries as my other gear
    – Quick release is…quick
    – Has a belt clip/bracket
    – Having the light to illuminate the screw-head in tight spaces
    – The variable speed option is fantastic – I would not want to be without it as it allows you to safely use the driver on any sort of material. I haven’t used a screwdriver since!

This was my first impact driver and I’m sold. Having the ability to set the speed is also an absolute must for me, it meant anyone was able to use it safely – the most recent example being with some IKEA furniture (which on high power may have been pulverised by my helper’s heavy trigger finger).

This impact driver (rattler) is the mutts nuts it drives the large heavy screws in with ease and will bed them in as far as you like, the mid settings is better for the smaller screws because on full power it will break the screws, it is much better than the older brushed version I had, I would recommend it to anyone

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis is my first impact driver. It arrived and I thought what’s this little thing I’ve wasted my money on!
But To my suprize it’s tiny lightweight and packs a real punch, it comes with a handy belt clip I’ve used it everyday for a Whole week (5days) I havnt had to change the battery yet (5amp) I’ve hung 10x. doors, fitted 10x work tops, fitted loads of shelving, driven in a couple of dozen techscrews into 4mm steel, fitted kitchen units plus loads of other miscellaneous jobs.

Has a handy light on it, has 3 digitally operated speed settings that are a little fiddly to switch as there is only one button and it operates the torch/settings etc.

And the new medel of the machita of 2019 or 2018 is much more powerful than the other drivers it seems small at first glance but you are amazed. If the screw is not unscrewed, it is not difficult to break any type of screw or bolt that is very satisfied by Makita

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI spent many years with all sorts of cheaper makes on the basis I was only a home DIYer and didn’t need often. I went through many electrical tools, broke quite a few, batteries died or never worked when I needed them. Charging was a pain and each tool had a different battery and charger.

From the moment I had a Makita drill I realised it was a different league…simply brilliant! Quality is top notch, faultless working, fast charging, super powerful and accurate no matter the product. I love that you can buy bare tools and reuse the same batteries which again are powerful, last well and charge quickly.

So bit of general view but this is more of the same. Powerful, fast to charge, light to use, no reliability issues and every workman we have had at our house renovation for 3 years has had one!

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersPros:
+ Saves a lot of time when; pre-drilling, driving long screws, working in hardwood
+ Now has dual LED with warmer nicer colour to work in
+ Brushless is VERY silent, apart from its other bonuses
+ Short and lighter than a drill

    Cons
    – It’s a luxury, a drill can do its job. Exceptions are when it gets really hard and a drill slips on a phillips
    – It’s harder to control power, it’s very powerful
    – It’s loud once the impact kicks in when needed

= Try getting it as a pack with a drill and two batteries.
= There are cheaper battery ecosystems than Makita 18v. Tho it’s the largest and often rank high in tests, you’ll rarely have anything to complain about. Don’t do 10v machines because they’re cheaper, you’ll regret it quickly.

I had a “brushed” version of this, but the power increase in the brushless is worth paying the extra for, as are the speed settings, putting screws into plaster board on the low setting for instance is made much straightforward.

Ergonomics are spot on, no quick chuck but for the price it’s not a major issue, have used it to hit things into place and so far nothing. Just for reference it’s quicker than the newest Milwaukee fuel M18 brushless impact driver (side by side comparison)
