Amazing set of crockery
I absolutely love these and they are better in real life than in pictures. I was worried the pattern on the edge of the plates would be too much but it’s actually perfect – adds something more than a plain boring white plate but is not over the top. Strong sturdy plates too.
Discontinued line
We already have 12 plates, side plates, bowls and mugs in this range (bought from Costco 5 or 6 years ago). Wanted to future proof our set, so bought this set 12 peice set when it was on offer. One thing about this set I love is the bowls, they are a good size for a hearty bowl of cereal or for pasta, stews etc. The bowls are used for so much in our home.
Lovely Dinner Se
Lovely slightly cream coloured dinner set. The pieces were packed well within cardboard boxes, not one piece was broken or chipped. I have since ordered another set. The diamond pattern is stylish and classy for an everyday set. So far, the dishwasher cleans the pieces well without leaving any marks. Would definitely recommend.
Lovely dinner se
Got this at a very good price. The set is just what I wanted – white with an embossed pattern to add some interest and seems to be of good quality. However – it would be nice to have the plate/bowl dimensions in the product description so it makes it easier to buy additional items. Just a general thing – I wonder why dinner sets are for four people, when it’s more usual to have 6 or 8 settings?
Nice China is hard to come by!
Our children have been nagging us for ages to replace our old Denby (Colonial Blue which is sadly discontinued) dinner service. We’d had it for going on thirty years and we’d lost bits over that period. We originally had eight of everything but we were averaging six or less!
We had been given some Amazon Christmas gift vouchers, so we decided we would finally bow to the pressure and acquire some new crockery. We worked on the principle that plain white would be easier to mix and match, and that the dimpled pattern on this China was more attractive than something that was completely plain. We did lots of research and went for this set. We decided against the set with the mugs as we have a cupboard full of them!
We ordered two sets of four. Everything arrived well packaged and mercifully in one piece – no breakages or returns! We do struggle with getting the dinner plates in the dishwasher as they are slightly larger than our old Denby but we can manage (and we probably load less in the machine so maybe the dishes are cleaner!). I have to point out that the crockery is not bright white – it’s a slightly creamier colour, but no less attractive.
Overall I would recommend this – and the fact that you can buy individual items is very useful (don’t ask!!)
Nice plates. I would call the colour cream or off white not the white advertised. Also they are not the usual quality I would expect from Maxwell & Williams. Plates aren’t even so don’t stack nicely and poor attention to detail (e.g. stamps on reverse are all over the place).

SO Much More than BASIC
Today, I am reviewing the Maxwell & Williams 12 Piece White Basics Diamonds Dinner Set; I would like to share some of my thoughts with you.
This Maxwell & Williams White Basics Dinner Set completely exceeded my expectations and is so much more than basic.
It arrived completely intact, very well packaged, in a substantial box with cardboard supporting the Diamonds Dinner Set; perfect for gifting.
It is so hard to find good quality dinner service sets. This Maxwell & Williams White Basics Dinner Set ticks all the boxes for me; the Dinner Set is crisp and minimalist with a lovely hammer finished patina to the edgings that will suit any occasion. It includes everything you need to serve dinner for four.
Designed to be not only dishwasher safe but microwave and oven safe as well, this robust porcelain Diamonds Dinner Set by Maxwell & Williams is sturdy enough to withstand frequent everyday use.
Maxwell & Williams have provided a comprehensive listing on Amazon, which I found helpful and accurate; it tells you everything you need to know about the quantity and dimensions that comprise this Diamonds Dinner Set.
The description, however, does state that it is a White Dinner Set. It is not a bright white; if you hold a piece of standard A4 printing paper alongside it, you will notice that the set is more off white. For me, the off white, slightly very light cream shade, adds a far more elegant, beautiful and versatile feeling to the overall Dinner Set.
I particularly love that that I can easily extend this Maxwell & Williams Diamonds Dinner Set with additions from their Diamonds Collection; I will be choosing a few other items for Christmas.
At the time of writing this review (November 2020), the Maxwell & Williams 12 Piece White Basics Diamonds Dinner Set is 50.99.
Sitting around the 50 mark, you will not go wrong with this super stylish, yet understated Diamonds Dinner Set. The pieces look and feel a lot more expensive than they are, and I would highly recommend it and will be buying some more pieces.
Great quality china with a simple and classic desig
My existing china is plain white and square however, I’ve been thinking for some time that it might be nice to have a change. Along came such a change with this Maxwell & Williams White Basics dinner set. In many ways, its not that dissimilar however, it is circular and has a reasonable subtle diamond pattern on the outside of the bowls, and along the outer rim of of the dinner and side plates.
In my opinion, I find it quite attractive and this is only enhanced by the fact that it is fully dishwasher safe – an absolute essential for me – and microwave safe. However, one thing which I absolutely love about this set is that it has been designed with bowls of a decent size. My most common use for bowls is for soup and with the set I have at the minute, a can of soup doesn’t fit in the bowl without flowing over the side! There’s no such issues with these bowls and if anything, they’re probably a bit too large for soup – however, you don’t need to fill it up!
As a set of 12 pieces, 4 each of dinner plates, side plates and bowls, it doesn’t seem particularly bad value either. Maxwell & Williams is a well respected manufacturer of dinnerware and I’ve always found their products to be robust and long lasting. For anyone looking to expand the set over and above the 12 pieces, a full compliment of matching items are also available, including mugs, cups/saucers, milk jug and sugar bowl (and lots more besides).
I have to admit that now I’ve got it, I’m thoroughly tempted to purchase another set, along with certain other matching accessories, to fully replace my existing dinnerware.
Good quality se
Impressively, this set came well packaged with many layers to protect the crockery. First thing I took out was the bowls and I was quite surprised to see how wide they were. They’re also deceivingly deep, making them versatile and suitable for a wide variety of dishes e.g. cereal, pasta, soup or even displaying a bowl of crisps on the table when friends come around. The quality is also great. The plates have a beautiful raised pattern on top, giving a tactile feel to them. They’re also a good weight and solid, which hopefully means they’ll be durable to the occasional knocks and bangs. They certainly survived the first accidental knock against each other when I was loading the dishwasher.
Eating off the plates was a good experience. The cutlery didn’t clang against them and there was no awful squeaking. After putting them through the dishwasher, they came up clean and had no problems. Although I think these are a little on the expensive side, they are good quality and would certainly recommend them, especially for those setting up in a new home or a wedding gift.
Nice basic set. Good quality starter se
Nice solid dinner set that consists of 4 large plates, 4 side plates and 4 bowls. Plates are decent average size. Bowls are nice and deep. Decoration is plain with indented spots. Very subtle and would suit and decor.
Microwave and dishwasher safe. Have washed well with no fading and no scratch marks from cutlery uses.
Porcelain seems on the thicker side so seem more robust than other sets.
Would make a great new home gift or update.
Classy dinner set that is dishwasher safe and versatile
This white Porcelain dinner set arrived in perfect condition. I was immediately drawn to the crisp whiteness of the set and the classy, but understated diamond pattern around the edges.

What you get in the box:
. X 4 side plates (18cm)
. X 4 Dinner plates (27cm)
. X 4 bowls (18.5cm)
–
When I opened the box, I was impressed with the quality of this set. It is robust in a busy family kitchen and I haven’t managed to chip any, yet. They wash well in the dishwasher and have been through multiple cycles without any issues, I like that they are also microwave and oven safe — ideal for plate warming before meals.
–
The sizings are adequate, although not huge. The dinner plates being 27cm in diameter, is ideal for mid-week meals — I did struggle with a roast dinner as they seemed a little small to fit everything on.
–
The design is simple, yet elegant. The set can be dressed up for a dinner party easily and works well with other white service sets.
–
This set can easily be mixed and matched with other items from the same range, or with accent pieces for a splash of colour. I love how versatile it is — the bowls make great serving dishes, too.
–
Overall, a lovely dinner set that is good quality and classy. I’ve had an enjoyable experience with them, so a solid 5 out of 5 from me without hesitation.
This dinner set is so much nicer than I thought it would be. The title says basic but I didn’t expect the set to have a nice design on it.
This set consists of four dinner plates, four side plates and four bowls. They are all a good decent size.
Arrived boxed up this would be perfect for someone setting up their first home. Would go with any kitchen/dining room setting.
Great to give as a gift!
I was keen to try this as we received a plain white set as a wedding present years ago which we love but it has lots of chips in now. I’ve been looking for another one to add to it which weren’t completely plain but would still blend in with our old set and I think this works really well.
So firstly the packaging is really nice and made it look and feel like a wedding present, I almost felt guilty opening it up for myself! Inside the big plates, small plates and bowls are individually boxed in plain cardboard packaging. They were cushioned well and none of them were broken or chipped.
The plates and bowls themselves look really stylish and seem quite sturdy as they are a decent thickness. The pattern on them is subtle enough to suit most people’s tastes without being plain/ boring. They are also dishwasher, microwave and apparently oven safe which is really good!
Overall I’m pleased with them, if I ever have friends getting married or moving to a first home I’d definitely consider buying them this so I’d recommend it!
Ideal starter se
This is a really good basics white dinner set, all pieces are very functional and have clean lines, the diamond motif around the outer rim of the plates and bowl is subtle and gives them enough of design effect to look a bit more sleek and stylish than your average plain dinner set. Q
The dinner plate is a good large size and has a shallow rim. The side plate is the right size for a bread roll, or slice of cake if used as a dessert plate. Not big enough for a sandwich. The bowl is just perfect, it is large and deep and multifunctional. I find it is the right portion size for a bowl of pasta, perfect for soup, noodles etc.
The quality of the pieces is good, I went through every one and found no imperfections. They are lightweight but sturdy.
The pieces are stamped with the brand on the underside and are dishwasher and microwave safe. I have tested them in both and there has been no issues.
This is a plain set but very functional, an ideal starter set, it comes nicely boxed too.
Nice size and durable
I love this set, the dinner plates are of a nice size and have a nice turn up at the edge, the patern around the plate whilst pretty also doubles as a grip aid when handling them wet.
Bowls are also nice big and wide, great for my breakfast cereal or soups.
Very happy with them
Very Versatile, Hardwearing and Suitable for Use with a Second Colour Scheme Blended Through
I have a few different pieces from this brand, so far, their pieces have mostly exceeded my expectations.
This is a clean white set of 12, with 4 of each:
Dinner plate – 10.5 inches
Sdde plate – 7.5 inches
Wide soup bowl – 7.5 inches that holds a capacity of 600ml each, comfortably. Even more, at a push.
The set is chic and minimalist with a lovely hammer finished patina to the edgings.
You can further extend the set with additions from the Basics Diamonds range. Such as the tea set or smaller noodle sized bowls or, if you need them: extra plates.
The set couldn’t have been packaged better! A box within a box and inside which, is the very gift worthy graphics imprinted box. The pieces arrived perfectly encased therein. They’re heavy set porcelain compared to my Corelle dinner sets.
All have the lovely colour logo of Maxwell Williams on the base with the model name (in case you should ever forget).
All are dishwasher, microwave and oven safe.
I have successfully used a white set very similar to this on a set design for a wedding scene mixed in with elaborate Japanese blue willow dinner set, plenty of candles and fresh lavender, selection of glasses etc. The colours offset each other perfectly and the slightly palpable marking in this set blend perfectly with the very elaborate willow designs on the other.
They would work just as well blended into sets with a slate coloured, ivory, or even dark ash grey and vivid shades!.
5 stars
Beautiful set.
Love, love, love this set, i found all of the set beautiful and very nicely designed and made and all have a slight curve to them, what is great if you like to eat watery foods like myself and the bowls are massive and can fit a lot of food in them. Only thing i do say is, they did have a thin layer of white powder on and that remained even after using them in a dishwasher but after i washed them all by hand the powder has now gone for good, so I’d advice washing them all by hand just incase but other than that absolutely perfect.
Great dinner set that looks better than the pictures
This is a lovely 12 piece dinner set, i opened the thick cardboard box and inside was the lovely branded boxes with details of the products inside. upon opening that the plates, bowels and side plates are grouped together in their own boxes with some packing around each plate or bowel keep them safe.
When i open each item i was really surprised by how much i liked the design pattern on them, it makes them look modern but not plain and boring which is perfect for me. here is the details of each of the three items you get:
4x Large plate – these are 27cm diameter and very nice, a small lip around the edge to stop and liquids like gravy escaping while you are eating but dont make them difficult to stack in the cupboard or fit in the dishwasher.
4x Small Plate – these are 18cm in diameter and have a smaller lip than the larger plates but are very nice perfect for a side plate or dessert plate in my case lol
4x Bowels – these are 18.5cm in diameter across the widest part at the top, the detail around the outer edge makes them look very nice and they are a good depth for cereal, soups and things like that.
Best of all everything in the dinner set is Dishwasher oven and microwave safe which means they are going to last a while. they do seem to be a nice thickness and i dont see any edges that might chip easy.
They used to be 68.99 which wasnt a bad price for a good set but when most households would need 2 sets to have enough starts getting expensive, but now they are 42.99 they are a good bargain for a lovely set.
Lovely Elegant Good Quality Se
Maxwell & Williams isn’t a brand I’d heard of before but am really pleased with this – it’s a good value set considering the good quality porcelain of the 12 pieces and I really like the subtle but elegant pattern and texture – simple but stylish and goes with pretty much any theme as it’s very neutral so you don;t have to replace if you change your colour scheme.
The 12 pieces are 4 good sized dinner plates that are around 27cm/10 inches in diameter, 4 little side plates that are 18cm/7inches in diameter and 4 nice sized bowls that are 18.5cm/7 inches in diameter which come in a very well packed gift boxed (all were in perfect condition when unpacked) and are all microwave, oven and dishwasher safe so are easy to keep in top condition and feel made to last so am very pleased with them.
